Primary Research

1. This data has shown me that 87.5% of my target
audience thought this was a rock magazine and this
tells me that this style of magazine and the
conventions it has used come across as the genre it
was meant to be. This will help me when creating my
rock magazine as I know that if i use similar
conventions such as dark costuming and minimal
colours I will be able to convey the rock genre well.

2. This data is showing me that over half of the
people I questioned thought the sell lines on the
magazine were appealing. A popular comment
was that the question on the front cover grabbed
their attention and drew them in. This tells me that
using a question as a sell line on my magazine
could be a good idea as it is likely to appeal to my
target audience.
However, 37.5% of people mentioned that the sell
lines were uninteresting and plain or didn't grab
their attention. As the magazine i used for this
questionnaire has a lower amount of sell lines
than other magazines tells me that I should
maybe use a lot of sell lines so people have more
to read and have a higher chance of finding
something interesting.

3. This tells me that most people who filled
out the questionnaire would pay £2.00 for
this magazine so it would be a good idea
to price magazine at this as well.
The majority of people thought this
magazine was targeted for males and
this could be because of the amount of
males in the main image. I want my
magazine to be targeted for both genders
and so I should consider using males and
female sin my main image.

4. How this will effect my own production choices:
My target audience will be for both genders of the ages 14-18 and their expectation will be that many
images will be used and informal language.They will also want to be able to relate to the articles. Whilst
producing my magazine, I need to take this into account and make sure the articles are interesting enough
to engage a teenager for a long period of time and also make sure the article is paired with images that
will catch their attention. Also, the magazine I showed my target audience had predominantly males on
the front and form this they presumed the magazine was targeted at males. This is something I want to
avoid doing and I will do this by making sure there is a balance of males and females. This is so people
think their will be something for each gender included in the magazine.
Also, the majority of people I asked presumed the magazine I showed them was of the rock genre. This
tells me that when producing my magazine I should consider using very similar conventions so my target
audience thinks the same about my magazine and the genre is conveyed properly.
