Capstone slidedeck for my capstone project part 2.pdf
Secondary research
1. I chose to research NME’s reader profile:
https://www.emaze.com/@AQRRRTQ/NME-Readership-Profile
From this reader profile I can see that the age range is 24 which
is higher than the target audience i was aiming my magazine at.
Combining this with the interests of the readers I can see some
aspects of NME that should not be included in mine as tey
wouldnt appeal to the audience I am targeting. The ratio of males
to females is also 69:31 which shows males may be more
interested in rock magazines. 71% of NME’s readers agreed that
it was worth paying extra if you were to get a free good and this
tells me that I should consider adding a section to my magazine
which expresses a free item.

product/unit-13-lo1/
This reader profile for Q magazine is showing me
that 68.3 of the readers are male ad this is
something I would like to avoid as my magazine is
aimed at both genders. Reviewing this and looking
at the conventions of Q magazine I can see that the
majority of the artists used on the covers appear to
be males and this tells me I should consider using a
variety of male and female artists so both take an
interest. Also, to engage female readers I could try
and use stereotypical conventions that appeal to
females. I can also see that 3. Of the readers are
from the ages of 15-24 which is a similar age range
to what i will be targeting y own magazine at. From
this I can see that I should consider using similar
language and image to text ratio as these are the
things a teenage target audience would be
interested in.
3. My target audience:
My target audience is 15-22 year old's of both genders. I have chosen this age
range as after researching i have found that this is the age range that most rock
magazines appeal to so it is a helpful guide to the type of conventions I should
and shouldn't be using. Also, being in this age range myself I am able to use my
own knowledge and interests to see what content I would like to see in a
magazine and will apply this when creating own. I am also targeting both genders
because with the colour scheme I am using (red, black and yellow) are all fairly
neutral colours and this will mean they won't appeal more to either gender. Also, I
am aiming to use a variety of male and female artists as it is common that the
gender you are is who you are interested in read about, especially as a teenager.
