2. Fonts
For fonts I decided to use some from the website: Dafont.com. All my fonts have a
similar theme to them. That being they look rather gothic. This will attract my audience
as just by looking at the masthead (Which is in the font “Midnight Moon”) They know
what genre of music my magazine is for.
For the contents page title I also used a similar font to my masthead. Which carries the
rock/gothic theme on into the magazine. For my double page spread I kept the fonts
simple. This attracts the audience to it. As the words are clear and easy to read, this
makes the reader want to read the article because it doesn’t look confusing. If the font
was hard to read they would be put off and wouldn’t read the article. The font
“Euphemia” which is the main text font blends in nicely with the whole article and its
layout. It doesn’t stand out and instead lets the images speak to the audience. I feel like
this would attract them to the article as it isn’t too in your face. It is neat and carefully set
out. In a way that looks organised. And from my survey which I took during my
audience research I found that this is what attracts my audience to music magazines.
This is my masthead in
Midnight Moon. However
for my actual cover page
it is in the colour black
4. The photos I have included on this power point are just a few from what I used on my
magazine. The cover image is the one shown on the left hand side. For this my model
uses direct address which held the audience connect with my magazine. They are
drawn in by the sense of mystery, as the model uses no facial expressions and makes
the reader wonder who and what the models story is. Around the side of my magazine
I then used 2 smaller sub-images. One in black and white of the 3 part band Atlantic
Cruise, this attracts the reader as they will see this and will want to know more. So
they will buy the magazine to read the bands article. The second sub-image included a
Led Zeppelin Vinyl. This attracts the audience to the magazine as it shows them
exactly what type of music it is aimed for, if they like the band which is an iconic rock
band then they will know that this magazine is for them.
Moving on to my contents page, I used the image of the
Girl shouting into the microphone. This addresses the
Audience as they can relate to her. My audience are
Know for being rebellious and loud. Which we can see
The model is like that also so they feel like they see
Themselves in her. Finally the double page spread images
Are all in black and white which attracts the audience as
It brings across a grungy feel. Which my audience like as that is the type of music they
are in to.
5. Page layout
My page layouts throughout my magazine were kept clear, simple and organised. I used
one large image on my cover page which drew them to my magazine and then added a
few smaller sub-images which attracted them to my magazine as it shows that my
magazine has a variety of different content inside it. This would definitely attract them to
my magazine. As they are young music lovers who want to know as much about this
genre of music as they possibly can. For my contents page, the layout also only includes
one main image. Which shows the girl shouting into a microphone. I then added a
smashed effect behind the image. This attracts the audience as they can relate to this
model as she has a rebellious attitude just like them. The sub-headings for the contents
were also clear. All the content is located on the right hand side in a straight line so it is
easy for my readers to locate.
Finally for my double page spread. The layout consists of one large image on the left
hand side with the main text starting from the top of the right hand side. Furthermore,
three images are then located at the bottom of the right hand side. This layout is again
clear and easy to look at. Which teenagers like. The large main image will also attract
them when flicking through the magazine as it will stand out on the page and make them
want to read the article. The fact the whole page
is also in black and white makes the page bold
which means it stands out compared to other
pages.
6. Words/Language
features
For words, I used unique band names that have never been made before. Such as
“Atlantic Cruise” and “Blade” on my Cover page. Straight away especially from
the band name “ Blade” my audience will be attracted to my magazine. This is
because it has a heavy rock/metal vibe to it. As well as making unique band names
I also used language techniques such as imperatives. I wrote “15+ Indie anthems
you have to hear!” which is one of my sub-headings. This draws my audience in
and basically persuades them to read the magazine. Telling them they “have to” do
it. This sentence is almost demanding them to buy the magazine. A rhetorical
question is also used “Selling for how much?” This makes the reader want to know
the answer. The only way of finding that is by looking inside the magazine. So my
sub-headings have all been specifically made to subconsciously persuade the reader
to open to magazine and look inside. I also used exclamation marks, for my
masthead and my sub-headings. This creates a feeling of excitement and draws the
reader in as they feel a sense of
excitement about the new
magazine, making them attracted
to the idea that this magazine is
new and wonderful.
7. Colour scheme
The colour scheme consists of the colours Black, Yellow and Red.
These colours attract the audience as they are bright and bold and stand
out on the pages. These colours are vibrant and attract a younger
audience which is who I am aiming my magazine for. The colours
themselves do bring across a rock magazine vibe. As these colours
are also the colours used for the magazine Kerrang! Black in particular
which is the colour mainly used as a background colour for my double
page spread has the connotations of rock and gothic attached to it. This
is because goths usually wear the colour black and so do rock artists
with their black leather jackets and jeans. This is why I used this colour
as it attracts the correct audience to my magazine. The colour red also
signifies danger which is also associated with rock and rock artists.
As they are known to being rebellious people who take part in
dangerous activities. The colour yellow contrasts with red. As yellow is
usually seen as a colour which shows joy and energy. This is what we
Want our audience to feel as they read our magazine. We want them to
enjoy it and feel a
sense of social
solidarity.
