Instructions for using Moodle's Advanced uploading of files assignment.

1. Moodle: Advanced uploading of files assignment
This activity allows teachers to return files containing comments and/or corrections to students in
response to their submitted assignments.
Adding an assignment
1.Click on the Add an activity... drop down menu and choose Advanced uploading of files.
2.Give your new assignment a name and add any assignment instructions in the description field.
3.Choose a grading scale; you can choose percentage, various letter grades or competency-based.
4.Set the date range within which you want to assignment to be available. I suggest you do not prevent
late submissions as assignments submitted after the due date will be date stamped as such.
Marking a submitted assignment
Open the student's submitted assignment:
1.Click on View # submitted assignments in the top right hand corner.
You will now see a list of your students' submitted assignments.
2.In the Last modified (Student) column click on the name of the file you wish to mark.
3.In the File download dialog box click Open.
You can now make comments throughout the assignment using Word's comment feature:
4.Select the text or item on which you wish to comment.
4.1.In Word 2007 click on the Review tab and click New Comment to type a comment.
4.2.In Word 2003 click on the Insert menu and click Comment to type a comment.
5.When you have finished commenting save a copy of the marked assignment.
6.Now save a PDF of the assignment to maximise the accessibility of the document for the student.(If
you are not using a Wintec computer you will need to install the free CutePDF Writer).
6.1.From the File menu (in Word 2007 click on the Office button) and choose Print.
6.2.From the Printer dialog box select CutePDF Writer from the drop down menu. Click OK.
Now upload your corrected assignment to Moodle for the student to review:
7.Click on the Grade link in the Status column.
A new window opens.
8.Click Browse... and locate the PDF file you have just created.
9.Click Open then Upload this file.
10.Make any general comments in the text box and assign the student a grade using the drop down menu
in the top right hand corner.
11.Click the Save changes button to finalise your mark and send the student an email notification that
their assignment has been marked. (If you'd rather not send an email you can uncheck the Send
notification emails check box before saving your changes.)
