Crafting an essay requires a deep understanding of the characters, plot intricacies, and the
cultural context of the story.
Analyzing the characters' motivations, relationships, and individual journeys demands a
thoughtful exploration of the novel's nuances. Moreover, connecting these elements to broader
themes in the context of the early 20th-century American South adds another layer of
complexity. The narrative's nonlinear structure, rich symbolism, and use of dialect also pose
challenges that require careful consideration and interpretation.

analysis, backed by scholarly sources, further adds to the research component of the task.
Moreover, crafting a compelling introduction that grabs the reader's attention and a conclusion

Blanche Dubois Madness
Imprisonment is the state of being captive and it can be categorised into physical
and mental confinement. Tennessee Williams A Streetcar Named Desire, which was
published in 1947, during post World War Two. During this time the issue of mental
health was finally becoming acknowledged by the public and more people were
being sent to institutions which knew how to deal with these issues. The play s
protagonist Blanche experiences this period as she was sent to a mental institution at
the end of the play due to her tendencies of living a life of delusion to escape her
disappointing reality. In 1946 President Truman signed the National Mental Health
Act which, for the first time in the history of the United States, generated a large
amount of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This mental illness has led to her living in a self imposed state of denial and
deception; this is evident when she states that I don t want realism instead I want
magic , suggesting that the reality of her life hasn t been good for her, the loss of
Belle Reve and her husband are the reason why she desires to construct a world of
her own where she can t lose anything. The fact that she wants a life of magic
confirms that she is an escapist who hopes in something more gratifying than reality.
This is because she is in denial about her past and lack of permanent relationships in
the Old South. Her escapist characteristic is evident through the version of her life
which she tells people; Blanche Dubois is a Don Quixote and desires to keep on
living in an illusionistic realm so that she won t face reality. Dubois is mentally
imprisoned because she begins to believe her own lies. This can be seen through
the character of Shep Huntleigh who was first introduced to the audience as an
idea of Blanche s imagination in order to rescue her and her sister from a desperate
situation , whilst she is being taken away to a mental health institution; she asks
whether if Shep is coming take her away on holiday. The fact that she thought it
was strange that he hadn t arrived yet although he was a made up lie is a revelation
that she is mentally imprisoned in her delusions. The notion of mental
imprisonment is mirrored in Lady Lazarus by Sylvia Plath through some intense
imagery such as a mangled and burned body. She talks about attempting suicide one
year in every ten indicating that she knows how many times she has made an
attempt her, and she disturbs the readers using a cat as a simile for having nine
times to die . This creates a dark image, because unlike a cat that gets nine lives to
live she

employees and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the methods and identify
how they could be improved for training and developing employees. Within todays

improving performance in all areas of the organisation

customer assistant departments within Marks and Spencer. There are many different
training methods which the organisation utilises to train and develop their employees
in all different departments and groups, however, the three main training methods
used to train sales floor customer assistants within Marks and Spencer are on the job
training, coaching and off the job training (Blogs.thegrangeschool.net, N.D).
According to Pineda (2010) training within an organisation must be evaluated due to

Presidential Vs. Parliamentary Systems Of Government
There has always been a debate over which form of government is the most stable.
For a long time, there was either a choice (within democratic models) of presidential
systems of government, in which the executive is all powerful, or parliamentary
systems of government, where the legislature is the supreme power. However, in the
past century, a middle ground has emerged between the two: semi presidential
systems of government. Semi presidential systems, as defined by Maurice Duverger
(an early writer on such models), are systems where a presidentof the republic,
elected by universal suffrage and given personal powers, co exists with a government
resting on the confidence placed in it by parliament . This means that semi
presidential models of government generally have a directly elected president and
parliament, along with a prime minister, who is appointed. The question of whether
these systems are more or less stable than presidential or parliamentary then becomes
the focus, and must be looked at in practice for this measure. Semi presidential
systems, as seen in France and Russia, can at times be either very stable or very
unstable, depending on the composition of a particular government. France, a pioneer
in the concept of semi presidential systems, has seen stability go either way,
depending on the affiliation of elected officials. Conflict started occurring in the late
twentieth century that challenged the stability of the current French system. Russia,

The Crucial Role of Native Americans Essays
For the better part of American history, the Indians have been viewed and portrayed
as dimwitted, helpless victims that aimlessly stood by while the Europeans
conquered their land, but this view has recently come under fire and has been
overturned, as it was determined to be misleading and inaccurate. Two historians that
have questioned the legitimacy of past beliefs regarding the Indians are Charles
Mann and James Axtell. Each has made it plainly clear in their articles that the
actions of Indians should no longer be treated as useless footnotes on the pages of
history. While their articles are on seemingly different subjects, their views and
beliefs on the importance of Indians in American history are incontrovertibly the
same as both... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tisquantum was using the oblivious Europeans for his own means, and although he
never achieved his goals, it is worth pointing out that he had ulterior motives for
aiding the Pilgrims in their time of need. Mann does a good job of supporting his
opinion and showing that Indians were not just aloof and passive but conniving and
manipulative like their European counterparts. Unfortunately, in the end all the
planning and trickery in the world couldn t have saved the Indians as they were just
simply outnumbered and technologically inferior to the Europeans. James Axtell
wrote the article entitled, Colonial America Without the Indians and it goes into
extreme detail to pinpoint the impact that the Indians had on American history. Axtell
picks out important events that irrefutably made the U.S. the country it is today and
shows what may have happened had the Indians not been in existence. For example,
America may not have been settled as quickly if not for the Indians because
explorers wouldn t have known of the hidden gold and silver deposits, many early
settlements would likely have failed without knowledge and support from the
Indians, and guerilla warfare was practically taught to the Americans by the Indians
and became a central piece in the winning of the American Revolution. Most
importantly, however, contact with the Indians helped Americanize the settlers. It
was the changes in the European culture brought on by the Indians

Why Philosophy Is Still Necessary
As I was attempting to brain storm for this assignment, I ran out of ideas so I
decided to read the prompt again and again for inspiration and hopefully some new
ideas. That is when I realized that the prompt itself had the answer that I was looking
for. My answer was sitting there waiting for me in the last sentence of the prompt,
The questionwhether Philosophy is still necessary or not remains an intriguing
question, triggering different position. Philosophy is still necessary in our modern
and scientific world today because Philosophy is the intriguing question that is
triggered by several events in different positions in our daily lives. In our fast
paced world today, people sometimes tend to want answers all the time without
even having to ask questions and unfortunately, technology, media and social
media have made that possible. If we are to agree to define Philosophy as the
questioning of ourselves and our surroundings in order to acquire knowledge, we
would come to realize that without Philosophy we would be living a clueless life.
If it was not for Philosophy and the concept of asking questions, then Isaac Newton
would have walked away from that tree to see a doctor because an apple fell on his
head. However, he started questioning why the apple fell and going after what had
made the apple move in the first place. Now one might argue that if it was not for
science, we will never have the correct answers, thus they give science more value
and cherish it more.
Medical Marijuana in Glaucoma Patients
Marijuana is no longer used just to achieve euphoria or by hippies to show
rebellion against the United States authorities. In today s world you do not need a
lava lamp and a van down by the river, you can now receive marijuana from doctors.
The medicinal use of marijuana is fairly new in the U.S. One of the most common
diseases medical marijuana patients suffer from is glaucoma. Although it is now
legal, recent studies show hemp may not be the answer for glaucoma patients. The
benefits of marijuana s use for glaucoma treatment has not proven to outweigh its
risks.
Marijuana
Cannabis has been used as an agent for achieving enlightenment throughout all of
time. It is described in an Oriental medical compendium traditionally considered to
date form 2737 B.C. It has a long history of being used as a medicinal herb. Its
origins spread from China to India and then over into North Africa and could be
found in Europe as early as 500 A.D. It was a major crop in the colonial North
America. It was extensively grown during WWII.
Marijuana was in the United States Pharmacopeia from 1850 until 1942 and was
prescribed to patients for various conditions including labor pains, nausea and
rheumatism. During the 1850 s up to the 1930 s it was a very popular intoxicant. A
movement conducted in the 1930 s by the U.S. Federal Bureau of Narcotics
(presently the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs) fought to make marijuana
appear to be an Addicting and powerful substance that would lead

Next they conducted interviews with county officials and used budget records to
allocate revenue and expenses into land use categories and then entered the
appropriate information into a computer spreadsheet for calculations for this final

For every dollar of revenue from residential development, $1.25 was required in

individuals with a task to create a mortgage calculator that could be used by any
individual to assess different loans offered by different banks in the United

friendly interface that allowed flexibility to the client such that they could enter
different loan amounts, different interest rates and get different payment plans. The
project was to be completed within a week.
We wanted to construct one using the software package Microsoft Excel because it is
readily available to most people worldwide and it would produce results as soon as
the client entered in the values.

We met up as a group to discuss what we had found by comparing our different
formulas.
I did a program on excel individually that I tested and saw that it worked. I then
compared it with what the others did, made modifications on each of our models as
a group and came up with our best possible model. I researched on different user
interfaces that could be implemented and chose the one we though was the most user
friendly.
I was happy that the first method did not work. The new approach offered me the
chance to understand the entire project and not just parts of it so that in future I
would be able to build it on my own. I was able to complete and present the
calculator to the lecturer with confidence as I knew every aspect that was important
in making it. I learnt the importance of group work rather than purely working
individually because we came together, shared ideas and came up with the best
solution.

Shortly after this Patton made his biggest, and quite likely most famous mistake of
his career. While visiting a hospital for wounded soldiers in Italy, Patton slapped
and verbally abused two Shell Shocked ( what is now known as Post Traumatic
Stress Disorder, or PTSD) soldiers accusing them of faking it to get out of the
fighting. Patton was forced to apologize, taken out of action, and his promotion to
Major General was postponed. The United States, however, knew they couldn t
just waste this extraordinary leader and sit him in time out while the fighting
escalated in Europe. So they devised a plan to put his fearsome reputation to use.
In the time period leading up to D Day, the United States and Britain came up with
plans for a phantom army in Northeast Britain where Patton was stationed.
Comprised of inflatable tanks and plywood bombers, with some fake campfires
and barracks for special effects, Patton s useless army looked terrifying to Axis air

What I Want Out Of Life And College
People are categorized all their life by themselves, their peers, and strangers. Each
person is put in a category based on race, age, gender, etc.. In Circles of My
Multicultural Self, I put twelve different identifiers and descriptors that defines who I
am right now. They are the following: middle class, complex, hard worker/driven,
agnostic, girlfriend, generous/kind, athletic, adopted, female, futurecounseling
psychologist, and Asian (Korean). The three most impactful identifiers and
descriptors are complex, girlfriend, and hard worker/driven. Complex is mostly
due to what has been going on in my life, and it describes how my personality,
Girlfriend describes one of the most relevant events that is going in my life. Hard
worker/driven goes hand in hand together as it allows me to focus on what I want
out of life and college.
Complex is the most impactful right now. The reason I ranked complex as number
one is due to the fact it is the core essence of me. It explains my personality and my
past. My personality can range to completely bubbly to stoic and quiet. It depends
on who I am with and where I am. I m one those people who don t open up that
much. I like to stay private with a lot of my issues whether if something is bothering
me or if I m really stressed out about something. Because of this, I usually act like
nothing s bothering me most of the time. It is putting on a mask or a forefront as I
like to handle it by myself. My past is also complex. One of

Immanuel Kant s Categorical Imperatives
Immanuel Kant was an eighteenth century moral philosopher who disliked the values
of the popular ideals of utilitarianism. Thus, he created his own philosophy known as
Kantian ethics. According to Kant, the most important factor in determining if an
action is ethical is an individual s motive. In his teachings, Kant describes that the
true rightness of an action depends on whether or not an individual fulfills his or her
duty to be moral not, the consequences of the actions taken. Kant seems to deem that
a moral action is not based on human emotions nor is it based on self interest but
rather, a moral action is taken due to a sense of duty.
The greatest issue with this method of thought involves motives. Due to the fact that

Kant explains this law with the shopkeeper example. The shopkeeper who acts out
of compassion is not cheating his customers but is not acting morally since the
action is taken out of self interest. The shopkeeper who acts out of duty is acting
morally. The action taken is only right and has moral worth if it is taken due to moral
duty regardless of the whether or not the outcome is positive or negative.
There are several arguments against Kantian ethics. One of the issues with Kant s
ideas is that it does little to explain how to act when in a situation where moral
duties will conflict. What should an individual do when there are conflicts of
duty? For example, if an individual is forced to choose between telling the truth
but, kill his or her family or to lie and save his or her family what should the person
do? Kantian ethics states that telling a lie is always wrong. It also considered bad
for a person to not follow the moral duty towards one s
Baseball Park Construction Trends in the 1990s Essay
Baseball Park Construction Trends in the 1990s
The current trend in baseball park construction is a retro design, reminiscent of the
early years, combined with modern technology. This trend, dubbed The Construction
Era by Frank Deford of Sports Illustrated, is prominent in three new American
League parks: Oriole Park at Camden Yards, Jacobs Field, and The Ballpark at
Arlington. The current idea for ballpark construction is to locate the retro style parks
in the heart of urban areas. The whole movement was initiated by the construction of
Oriole Park at Camden Yards, and it s radical new design concept. It all started on
April 6, 1992, the inaugural game at Baltimore s new stadium: Camden Yards. That
day 47,930 people packed out the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The designers also placed television monitors in every section under the overhang for
the crowd to see the t.v. replays.
The fourth aspect that helps create the retro atmosphere at Camden Yards is the
color scheme in the park. The seats are all green, and each one has the 1890 Orioles
club seal on it. The wall in left field is home to green ivy that was brought over from
Memorial Stadium.
The green seats and the ivy growing on the left center wall help the park to look
both open and natural, much like the first ballparks did at the beginning of
baseball. Finally, the last characteristic of Camden Yards that make it a retro style
park is that it is located in downtown Baltimore. In the young days of baseball most
of the ballparks were in the city since that is where a majority of the population
lived. Lack of transportation also played a big role in building a ballpark
downtown during the beginning days of baseball. Most people walked to the games,
so it was important for the first ballparks to be relatively close to the population. The
reason the designers of Camden Yards chose to build it downtown was in conjunction
with an urban renewal project that was rebuilding, and beautifying the downtown
area of Baltimore known as the Inner Harbor. The next ballpark in the Construction
Era is The Ballpark at Arlington.
The Ballpark in Arlington was based on the retro deign of

It involves increasing the capacity of workers at all skill levels. With the skilled
workers in the industrial maintenance costs of pollution control equipment can be
reduced. It thus reduce environmental pollution through continuous monitoring of
performance (performance monitoring) are carried out by environmental skilled
workers.
The fifth strategy, refers to the recycling of waste generated in industrial
operations. This can be accomplished with the use of waste as raw material again,
power generation, recovery (recovery) and also use it for purposes other products.
For example, the rice industry waste can be used as feedstock for the production of
compost. It can solve the problem of environmental pollution through open burning
which is always practiced. Besides the installation of a wastewater recycling system
used to help reduce water use in the food industry and cost of production.
In the global context of many industries have come into practice the concept of
Cleaner Production, and managed to reduce their operating costs. Among the
industries that have successfully implemented this concept is the food industry,
electronic industry and the pharmaceutical industry. For example, companies in
Sandgate Castle Chemical Australia has successfully implemented the concept of
cleaner production to energy conservation through the conversion process flow and
waste recycling program to generate annual
A Flag for Canada Essay
A Flag for Canada
The Canadian Government defines a flag as a symbol to identify people belonging to
a group.
Canada has been a country for many years but has always lacked one thing. Up until
1965, we did not have our own official flag. The first thoughts of Canada adopting its
own flag started in 1925. A Privacy Council committeelooked at the possibilities but
their work was never completed. This meant that the Red Ensign and the Union Jack
would continue to represent Canada. In 1946 a committee was again formed to
determine a national flag. Over 2,600 designs were submitted but yet again, no flag
was picked.
In 1964, the Canadian government ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Red Ensign combined with the Union Jack and the fleur de lis, which was the
favorite choice of Diefenbaker and the Conservatives. Diefenbaker liked this idea
because it was new and reflected our roots and historical past with France and
Britain. The second choice was three maple leafs in the middle on white which
reflected the English , the French , and all the other cultures that make up Canada,
topped off with a blue stripe going down each side representing the oceans. This
flag was the personal preference of Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson and was
nicknamed The Pearson Pennant. The third and final choice was by far the boldest
and most simple of the three designs. The third had a single maple leaf in a white
square with red on each side.
In 1921 King George V proclaimed Canada s national colours red and white,
therefore it would be ideal to incorporate the national colours into the countries flag.
After much debate, a Flag was finally chosen. The committee, which chose the flag,
had met 46 times. The two men which get the most credit for creating and choosing
a flag for our country were George Stanley and John Matheson. They played key roles

Breast Augmentation Research Paper
Breast augmentation is a very delicate procedure that can only be handled by a highly
qualified medical practitioner. Basically, the procedure involves placement of a
synthetic implant under the breast tissue. Alternatively, such an implant can also be
placed beneath the chest muscle.
You may wonder whether an artificial implant can actually have the feel and look of
a normal breast. Well, in any properly done augmentation procedure, no one may
even suspect that you have an artificial implant, since it would look and feel exactly
the same as your natural breast. This is so because the implant is filled with salt
water or silicone gel, which is malleable just like normal breast tissue.
Why Would Anyone Go for Such an Augmentation Procedure?
The Importance Of Stereotyping In Society
A stereotype is a way to determine where a person or thing falls in the realm of life.
Stereotyping is a natural part of life and it actually does have a meaning in reality.
It allows a person s mind to work properly and for the human brain to be able to
recognize, process, store and then recall the information when needed.
Stereotyping is a big problem in society. It labels a person about how they should
live or act according to their sex, race, and personality. In all work forces it is a law
to not discriminate against employees or other people in the facility. It can also be
used in racial, political, religious, and many more ways. Stereotyping in a racial
way is judging people by the color of their skin, where they come from, or the
language they speak. Stereotyping can be a big issue in many professional
businesses and environments. It can affect people s lives and the way of doing
things. Stereotypes also are creating a false idea of how people interact with other
individuals. Many of the stereotypes children receive are through media. People
should be careful when stereotyping or just keep their thoughts to themselves.
Stereotyping will never go away because it helps humansto process information about
things and people.

Common Predictors Of Agricultural Adoption
Several factors that were considered are accepted as common predictors of
agricultural adoption in developing countries. However, three questions related to
explanatory variables were not included in the final questionnaire. Firstly, we did not
consider access to bank loans because coffee farmers in Mexico are mostly unable to
obtain investment credit from lending institutions. Coffeeproducers usually have the
option of obtaining short termfinancing (cash advances) either from local traders or
from coffee cooperatives for those who are members. However, the availability of
long term credit has virtually disappeared making it difficult for producers to defer
the costs of implementing over several years (AMECAFE, 2009).
Secondly, land tenure arrangements were not factored into the model since the
communal land system in Mexico (ejidos) remains the dominant type of ownership
especially in the rural areas of the south (Brown, 2004). Households in the sampled
area continue to work the land under this traditional system and therefore the
inclusion of a variable to capture tenure security could amount to model
misspecification.
Thirdly, analysis of the data indicated that all surveyed producers affiliated with a
farmer association had received extension support through their membership whereas
no independent producer had participated in any form of training . In addition, all of
those surveyed who had indicated they were members of a producer organization
belonged to organic

The Sin Of Adultery In Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter By...
During the 16th century, the Puritans were exceedingly harsh towards the sin of
adultery.
Some extreme punishments for adultery include: public humiliation, physical abuse,
and even death. However, many people escaped the harsh punishments for this crime,
including Arthur
Dimmesdale. In The Scarlet Letter, Hawthorne conveys that organized religion and
the Puritan movement are hypocritical, sanctimonious, and will inevitably acquire the
equitable justice that the members deserve.
The married couple, Hester Prynne and Roger Chillingworth, prepare for a journey
across the Atlantic ocean for a new life in America. Hester travels before her husband
and meets

the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of
your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother
s eye (NIV). This verse reaffirms the condemnatory townspeople are judging Hester
for her sins, without keeping in mind their own sins. Another verse from the Bible
that shows the judgment of sin is a sin itself is John 8:2 9:
Early in the morning He went back into the temple courts. All the people came to
Him, and He sat down to teach them. And the scribes and Pharisees brought to Him a
woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before them and said, Teacher, this
woman was caught in the act of adultery. In the Law Moses commanded us to stone
such a woman.
So what do You say? They said this to test Him, in order to have a basis for accusing
Him. But Jesus bent down and began to write on the ground with His finger. When
they continued to question Him, He straightened up and said to them, Whoever is
without sin among you, let him be the first to cast a stone at her. And again He bent
down and wrote
Poole 3 on the ground. When they heard this, they began to go away one by one,
beginning with the older ones, until only Jesus was left, with the woman standing
there (NIV).
An additional hypocrite is Hester, who is a very strong willed person. In the face of

Hawthorne s Life Exposed In The Scarlet Letter, By...
Usually we infer from the word bias that the author is leaning towards his subject
instead of against it. In this essay I will actually go against the current and state that
Nathaniel Hawthorne, influenced by early childhood, his lineage and his inferring
from his works is actually outlining a double standard/poking fun at the puritan
religion in colonial American and up to his time. I will argue this through his life
experiences, examples in the scarlet letter (his most acclaimed work), and his lineage
and personality. By the end of this, you shall agree too.
While Hawthorne s life is not as well documented as some other famous individuals
of the time, there is enough to infer a basic surface to his personality, his lifestyle
and his feelings towards his lineages religion. From an early age Hawthorne was
raised with his mother and three sisters, as his father died as a sailor with the East
India Company. Typically, a lack of a father in a perfect familyis usually
accompanied with disobedience and or problems early on. This how ever ... Show

The scarlet letter being the most famous but others include, the house of seven gables,
twice told tales, young Goodman brown, and the Blithedale romance. Others left out
but these main works show his gothic romanticism and his beliefs. All of these
works have puritan religion themes in them and even all have some negative
connotation to them. I do not think this is a coincidence. Scarlet letter, being his
most famous work shows this clearly along with other less significant themes.
Examples include the Scarlet Letter A in the sky, Hester Prynne s slow forgiveness
by the town even though they considered her an outcast a few years earlier, or even
the sin committed by Dimmesdale. Other examples are less obvious in his other
works, yet still
Hamlet And Hamlet In William Shakespeare s Hamlet
The tragedy Hamlet written by William Shakespeare, who formulated a drama
regarding the young Prince of Denmark, Hamlet, who experiences the emotions,
depression, rage, and uncertainty because of the assassination of his father s, King
Hamlet. The culprit who directed this criminal action was Hamlet s uncle, step father
and the new King of Denmark, Claudius. Hamletyearns to seek revenge upon
Claudius not only for the assassination of his father, but, the incestuous relationship
between him (Claudius) and Gertrude (Hamlet s mother). In the Prince s first
soliloquy, he ponders on committing suicide when he encounters difficulty
mourning the death of his father whom he adored. As the soliloquy advances, he
exposed his passions of disgust on his mother s decision to marry her dead husband
s brother, Claudius. This marriage is incest because, Gertrude, a widowed wife,
marries her brother in law, Claudius who is considered as family during the
Elizabethan era. His disturbances present itself in act one, scene two where Hamlet
goes through a state of depression because of his father s death, and then leads to
anger because of the relationship between Gertrude and Claudius. In brief,
Shakespeare utilizes the soliloquies to observe Hamlet and his constant emotional
shifts which allows character development throughout the tragedy In one example,
Shakespeare employs imagery to develop Hamlet in his state of depression and anger
due to the death of his father. Hamlet expresses

For our project we researched ultrasound which is also commonly known as a
Sonogram. The definition of ultrasound is energy that is generated by sound waves
of 20,000 or greater vibrations per second. Ultrasound is used in many different
arrays. It is most often used in the medical field. Ultrasound uses sound waves that
are too high to be heard by the human ear. A part of the ultrasound machine called
the transducer is placed on the body part and sound waves are emitted from the
transducer and reflected back from organs and tissues. When the wave is sent back to

ultrasounds are done in the women second trimester much like fetal

In this test they look for the blood flow to the heart, the rhythm of the heart and the

This is also like a standard abdominal ultrasound except the transducer is placed

Reflection Of The Marin Oratorio
I saw the Marin Oratorio perform in the afternoon at College of Marin. The
ensemble played classical was made up of every type of instrument including
brass, woodwind, strings, percussion, keyboard and voice. They performed The
Seasons by Franz Josef Haydyn. The venue was a pretty large theatre. The stage
had two levels with most of the instrumentalists on the bottom and vocalists behind
on risers. The stage was separate from the audience but pretty close. I could see
nearly everyone, which allowed me to see who was playing each part. The Seasons
is made up of four movements: Spring , Summer , Autumn , and Winter . The
format is a poem that the vocalists sing backed up and emphasized by the
instruments. It is subdivided into 35 verses. The Seasons is based on a collection of
poems by James Thomson. It is the love story of common farmers that takes place
throughout the seasons. The first movement, Spring is light and playful and has a lot
of staccato and spiccato. The last song, Wonderful, powerful, merciful God! , is
stronger with more drum and brass and serves as a transition to Summer . The second
movement is legato and more powerful. Autumn is about a hunt and excitement. The
last movement, Winter , is filled with stories from the soloists and the instruments are
mostly backup and play long notes behind the vocalist. The ensemble is arranged with
string instruments in the front and center in a semicircle around the conductor with
brass behind the violins

Characteristics Of The Villa Rotonda
The Villa Rotonda is a famous architecture designed by Palladio. Many people who
make great achievements in architecture, Howard Burns, Francis Ching et al.,
Andrea Palladio and Rudolf Wittkower, have all written some words in their books
about it. They describe some same characteristics but for different purpose.
Symmetrical structure is the most obvious feature of the Villa Rotonda, and all
four experts works involve it. Burns, professor in architectural history, look at this
villa on a macroscopic level, and he ascribes its symmetry to the influence by
Alberti, Raphael and Giulio. As a forerunner in villa design, Alberti puts forward
an idea, in De re aedificatoria, that a villa should have a central court or hall, and
pedimented portico. All these elements can be found in the Villa Rotonda. Raphael
s the Villa Madama becomes a reference when Palladio begins his design.
Wittkower, an art historian specializing in Italian Renaissance and Baroque art and
architecture , describe Palladio s works as his experiments. He says that Renaissance
architects always regarded symmetry as a theoretical requirement in design .
Wittkower also mentions that Palladio has already taken lots of studies on the basic
geometric pattern of villa before he designs the Villa Rotonda. The architecture and
design graphics writer Francis Ching describes its plan and section elevation in detail.
He writes ...it is symmetrical around both axes...The building s plan centered on a

Two years into the war, the farm s fields become a battlefield and Benjamin decides
to treat the wounded, British and Continental Army soldiers, including his son
Gabriel. When Colonel Tavington and his troupes arrive, he captures Gabriel in
order to hang him for treason. His younger brother Thomas tries to intervene and is

Persuasive Essay On Cosmetic Surgery
Cosmetic Surgery: Liposuction Contemporary society is more widely accepting of
cosmetic surgery as normal compared to the past. In the modern world, people are
highly concerned with appearances, features, attractiveness and insecurities, and
believe the solution to these problems is cosmetic surgery. People are willing to
undergo cosmetic procedures despite many of the possible complications. Liposuction
is one most common cosmetic procedures patients choose to undergo in the U.S.
Liposuction, or lipoplasty, is the removal of fat from the body. Patients elect to
undergo this surgerybecause they are seeking more aesthetically pleasing body
shapes, and it is important to know that it is not a substitute for weight loss.
Liposuction is simply the reshaping or molding of body parts. The abdomen, butt,
and thighs are some of the most common areas of the body that liposuction is
performed on. The best candidates for liposuction are people who have good
elasticity and skin tone, where the skin molds itself into new contours (Nordqvist).
The procedure includes an anesthesia, general or local, depending on the amount of
fat that is being removed. Then, small incisions are made in discreet spots of the
targeted area of fat removal (Jones). The incisions are typically less than an inch in
length. Next, a cannula, a small tube, is inserted into the incisions to loosen the fat by
moving it back and forth, and it is then suctioned out using a surgical vacuum or
syringe attached to
British Colonization Of The Americas
British colonization of the Americas began in 1607 in Jamestown, Virginia. It
reached its peak when colonies has established throughout the America. The British
ignored america in favor of subduing and occupying Ireland, which is a promising
colony closer to their homeland. In 1558, the half century reign of Elizabeth 1 began,
Englands interest to the other side of the Atlantic grew. Elizabeth maneuvered through
the difficulties of being a female monarch by refusing to marry, having no kids, and
maintaining a reputation for chastity. However, for the next paragraph, I will initiate
on how the British slowly colonized the Americas and how the representation of
some of the women was very important back in this century. First of all, the British
which was run by Elizabeth 1 in the 1500s established her country s control of the
seas and access to the New World s wealth. Sir Walter Ralegh, who is one of Elizabeth
s favorite men has granted dominion over the large, undefined American territory
north of the Spanish lands that Ralegh names Virginia to honor not the Virgin Mary
but the Virgin Queen. Even though Elizabeth did not get married she has a favorite
men which she trusted him and sent him to the America. In contrast to the highly
Spanish queen, Elizabeth was a thoroughly worldly monarch (pg24). She abjured the
Catholic Church in favor of heading the church of England, more as a source of
political than spiritual identity and authority. Differently from the Catholic
Uses Of Rasch Calibration Parameters
Following the use of Rasch calibration parameters, start points as well as both reverse
and discontinue rules were established according to the results of the national
standardization process (Kaufman Kaufman, 2014). Two parallel forms of the KTEA
3 were created, Forms A and B. Scores on both forms were calibrated using equating
strategies, including common person, equipercentile, combining sets of grade
appropriate items, and special linking studies. For the Reading Comprehension,

Standardization Sample Alternate form reliability was computed by
administering two parallel forms of the test (Form A and B), both including the 19
subtests of the final edition. Validity was established by administering one of five
alternate measures of cognitive ability and academic performance to participants.
Standardization data was collected over approximately one calendar year (August
2012 to July 2013). Two sets of sample data were derived, age norm (n = 2,050) and
grade norm (n = 2,600), with data for grade norms collected in the fall and spring
to obtain expected skill levels at those times of the year. These groups, however, do
not yield a total sample size of 4,650 participants; the age and grade norms were
calibrated using data from the students at a specific grade level who were of the
expected age for that level. This procedure yielded approximately 1,300 students in
the fall (grade based) normative sample and 1,300 students in the spring normative
sample. Likewise, there were 1,025 females and 1,025 males in the age norms
sample. The KTEA 3 normative sample was stratified and matched the population in
the United States, based on the U.S. Census Bureau s American Community Survey

In modern times, the aim of public finance is not merely to raise sufficient financial
resources for meeting administrative expenses, for maintenance of law and order and
to protect the country from foreign aggression. On the other hand, the sphere of
public finance has been very much extended. It is now considered a powerful
instrument of important economic and social objectives. The most important
objective before these countries is to accelerate their economic growth through
mobilizing internal resources. The under developed countries, like Bangladesh, are
caught up in the vicious circle of poverty. Consequently, such countries are not able
to save much and whether individual savings or collective savings are only a small
fraction of their national income. This means that a much greater tax effort is called
for to raise country s growth rate to a reasonable level. Since private savings and
capital formation are meager in Bangladesh, the responsibility of resource
mobilization for economic growth falls on the State. That is why the role of public
finance in developing countries is very important. For accelerating economic growth,
the government has to adopt a tax policy which may raise the rates of saving and
capital formation in the country. Since private investment is not adequate for the
purpose, the government has to make up the deficiency of private investment by
increasing public investment and for that purpose raises resources through taxation.

A Spiral Galaxy
NGC 1672, a barred spiral galaxy located in the direction of the southern
constellation Dorado lies more than 60 million light years away. This is a spiral
galaxy that s composed of stars in a central bar shaped design. NGC 1672 is a
member of the Seyfert galaxy, which was named after famous astronomer, Carl
Keenan Seyfert, who extensively studied galaxies with active nuclei in the 1940s. In
the middle of NGC 1672 s galaxy, it contains a high surface brightness bar from
which four wire like spiral arms extend outwards. This galaxy s symmetrical look
is mainly formed by the four extending arms of which are bordered with the most
spectacular dust lines that extend out from the center. Unlike the normal galaxies,
NGC 1672 s arms do not fully spiral all the way to the center. The arms are actually
connected to both ends of a linear like bar of stars encompassing the nucleus. In
fact, the arms extending from the middle of this galaxy is the main reason I was
drawn to this image. The arms with the beautiful pinkish purple rays look like an

Ritual Practices in Neolithic Levant, Mesopotamia, Near
East
Changes of Ritual Practices in Neolithic Levant Throughout Mesopotamian history
humans found ways of relating to the world through the environment and
supernatural entities. When we study the relationship Mesopotamians had with
their world, we see a symbolic system of communication that developed from
ideology and belief systems. These symbolic systems of communication can be
called rituals , which were created differently in different areas and time periods,
and which were always changing. As defined by Firth (1951), ritual is a kind of
patterned activity oriented towards the control of human affairs, primarily symbolic
in character with a non empirical referent, and as a rule socially sanctioned (p. 222).

New evidence of ritual activity in the PPNB comes from the cult buildings/shrines
and temple/sanctuary structures. Specifically, the circular cult buildings were
small, suggesting they were not available for everyone s use. And the temple
/sanctuary may have been for use by most, if not all, of Ain Ghazal residents
represented by its large terrace wall and the large amount of labor needed for its
construction (Rollefson, 2000, p. 175). Ritual traditions are evidenced to have
changed quite dramatically from PPNB to PPNC through burial practices. Five
prominent changes occurred: 1) decapitation of the deceased no longer occurred;
2) subfloor burials did not occur past the early PPNC, and instead burials were in
courtyards; 3) there was a nearly equal number of primary and secondary burials
which Rollefson says is suggestive of a large part of the village population as only
part time residents; 4) the production and use of figurines decreased dramatically,
possibly indicating that individual levels of interactions with spirits decreased as a
ritual practice; and 5) the pig bones found in (mostly secondary) burials may
represent of the relationship the person had with animals such as full time Ain
Ghazal resident farmers and pastoralists (Rollefson, 2000, p. 178 9). The last period
that occurred in Ain Ghazal was the Yarmukian, which had the lowest population
level in over 2,000 years. Only

Vibration transmission has been reported to cause back problems because of tissue
failure or from metabolic interference, or a combination of both.
Vibration occurs in all moving bodies and tractors are no exception. It results from
the interaction of the vehicle with the rough terrain and from the power source. The
level of ride vibration on tractors during normal operation frequently exceeds the
internationally accepted levels. The analysis of the ride vibration is a complex issue
especially for off road condition, as the vibration is in category of multi degree of
system and cawed by many components, in the system. Operating speed, surface
conditions, wheel air pressure, tire cas stiffness, mounting mechanism of the seat, cab
or body parts cause infirnth variable outcome.
A considerable amount of time and energy has been spent in minimizing this
vibration problem. Suspended seats fitted to most tractors reduce the vertical
component of vibration, but the levels are still undesirably high and there is little
potential for further improvement using this technique. A further reduction in the
vibration level may be obtained by introducing wheel suspension, but it makes the
system complicated and costly. Cab suspension is another method of
How Does Shakespeare Show Love In As You Like It
Love in As You Like It
Throughout the centuries, men have pondered many great questions. Among these is
the question: What is love? There is no doubt that the greatest name in English
literature, Shakespeare, sought to answer this question for himself. Indeed,
Shakespeare recorded his answer in many of the sonnets and plays he wrote,
including As You Like It. As Shakespearelearned in seeking to answer this question,
love is many things, which in this play he observes through the characters of the play,
but most directly through Silvius:
It is to be all made of fantasy,
All made of passion and all made of wishes,
All adoration, duty, and observance,
All humbleness, all patience and impatience,
All purity, all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Risking his own life, he tells them not to eat any food, then explains why:
There is an old poor man,
Who after me hath many a weary step
Limp d in pure love: till he be first sufficed,
Oppress d with two weak evils, age and hunger,
I will not touch a bit (II.vii).
Orlando is not merely being selfless, he is being selfless to help out a servant, a
member of a lower social class. There are few names with such a reputation, and one
of them is the legendary Robin Hood. In this way Shakespeare shows the selflessness
of love.
Shakespeare through Orlando again shows selflessness, this time not for a loving
subordinate, but for his hateful brother. Orlando is walking through the forest, and
catches a glimpse of a wretched and ragged man, o ergrown with hair asleep at the
base of an old oak tree (IV.iii). A snake crawls down from the man, then slithers
under a bush, where a lioness crouches, ready to leap at the first movement of the
man. Orlando see the man to be none other than his elder brother. Twice did he turn
his back and purpos d so [to leave him there]/ But kindness, nobler ever than
revenge ... Made him give battle to the lioness (IV.iii). Orlando chooses to save his
brother at great risk to himself, and is indeed injured in the process. By placing the
good, and even more paramount, the life, of another before the his own good and
life, Orlando shows the greatest possible display of selfless love that he can. It is
interesting to note

Windows Server Advantages There are many administration advantages for
Windows Servers. One aspect is domain operations which are an important
resource available on the network through Window Server. Making Window
Server a domain controller adds security and the ability to add local and group
policies to the network (Garza, 2010). If Window Server is not promoted to the
status of a domain controller, then it can run simple network operations using peer to

(Host wisely, 2011).

Windows Server Advantages Windows server offers anywhere access with great
flexibility, which allows a company to build, deploy, and manage applications and
websites on premises, in the cloud, or in hybrid environments using a consistent set

help increase scalability. (Microsoft, 2012). Disadvantages Windows servers are
notorious for being vulnerable to worms while there have been basically no worms
affecting UNIX in the past ten years. Any server running on windows should really
have anti virus software on it just like a desktop would. While window servers are
unaffected by this they are just as susceptible to malicious and mischievous hackers
as window servers and therefore must still be patched UNIX Advantages There are

Middle School Speech
Middle school is great. I guess you have to learn to love it because it will be with you
for years. My friends are amazing, and the teachers are nice. When I look back to
the first few days of middle school, though, I think, how did everything work out so
well?
Being the new kids in a huge school is difficult. Therefore, knowing one friend was
helpful. Her name is Rachel. Other than that, I knew five kids who I ve said about
two words to. I actually got lucky having Rachel in my team class, except her
homeroom was the other teacher. On the first day of school, I got lost. It wasn t the
best start to the day, so when I walked in the room and saw a familiar face, I smiled.

When they came back, it looked like they arguing, but in a funny way. Hey, Anna

Not that I know of, I respond. I found the chance to start a conversation, so I added,
Why?
Well she was just telling me about her amazing vacation to Hawaii, and how she
almost got bit by a shark. I don t believe it, Anna says. Rachel s cheeks start to puff

Essay on juan peron
Juan Domingo PerГіn is known as the greatest Argentinean politician of all time.
However, he is also one of he most controversial. His tactics and alliances are often
criticized as are the changes and developments he brought about in Argentina. The
one thing that can be concluded by all is that this man led a very complex and
important life.
PerГіn was born on October 8, 1895, in a province of Buenos Aires. He was the
second son of Mario and Juana PerГіn. His father was an employee of the local
court. When Juan was five years old his father abandoned the family. To make ends

was denied mainly because many of the military leaders felt threatened. She kept on
helping PerГіn by keeping him in contact with he countries labor unions. Eva or
Evita died in 1952 of cancer.
PerГіn set out to make Argentina the military and financial power of Latin America.
This was a tough task though since PerГіn had many oppositions. PerГіn used
censorship and other violations of
Civil rights to help control his oppositions. The catholic church was one of them.
The catholic church was in an uproar when PerГіn pushed for the policy of divorce.
They reformed and revolted and forced PerГіn to flee. Both the army and the navy
felt it was best for the country if PerГіn resigned. PerГіn resigned and moved to

Stereotypes In Poussey Washington s Orange Is The New
Black
Poussey Washington was one of the central characters in Orange is the New Black
until her tragic death in season four of the series. The portrayal of her character in the
series is particularly interesting when looking at her identity through an intersectional
lens. Poussey is an African American, openly gay woman. This recognized identity
evidences that, overall, Orange is the New Blackis one of the more diverse and
progressive shows currently being produced considering there aren t many popular
shows with a principal black lesbian character. Poussey is arguably an audience
favorite considering the immense backlash received when her character was
murdered in the series. Disregarding the fact that she is in jail, her character goes
against stereotypes of the way black women are oftentimes portrayed in media. In
John Cones Patterns of Bias in Hollywood he states, Of course, Hollywood has a
long history of portraying African Americans in a negative or stereotypical manner,
pre dating World War II (232). Still the lingering effects of these biases still remain in
countless Hollywood productions by portraying black women as angry, uneducated,
loud, vindictive, petty, victims of domestic abuse, lacking father figures and endless
other negative stereotypes. However, Poussey Washington diverges from these
stereotypes.
Poussey is shown as intelligent. She works in the library of the penitentiary with

A Personal Review Of David Foster Wallace s Letter To Me
I hope this letter finds you well. My mother recently received a letter in the mail
pertaining to my child support, which stated that the state has decided to increase
the money I receive from my father by 0.67%. I understand this is what the state
has calculated to be the appropriate amount I need to thrive as a young woman
living in the 21st century in the United States. However, I believe this conclusion
was met erroneously as it is based on generalized statistics which are then calculated
to fit my lifestyle, which only people who have met me would know. Nonetheless,

CHAPTER 2
Review of literature: The problems faced by the International students without a
Social Security Number at Pittsburg State University.
Introduction
The study conducted by Savage (2007) describes when international students arrive in
the United States, students are challenged by the many issues: language, academics
and they have to adjust to many things like living, making communication, cultures,
weather, transportation because they vary from one region to another region (Savage,
2007) The other types of difficulties international students face when they move to
USA are finding a place to live, communicating with foreign citizens, adjusting to the
teaching style and getting essential utilities for their daily needs. Finding new people
to making friends with is also important for international students in order to build
their social status. Discrimination is another issue that mainly international students
have to overcome (Savage, 2007). Other tasks international students have to figure
other than studying are finding a job, obtaining a Social Security Number and
obtaining a driver s license. International students also face difficulty in adjusting to
the new transition in their studying environment. Due to the language barrier,
international students may feel uncomfortable while interacting with office workers
in order to obtain SSN s and also in fulling their daily needs (Savage, 2007).

Similarities Between Dreams And Dreams
One of the interesting differences between the two is that often, we are aware of
watching a film, but not that we are in a dream, which is an important difference that
can have interesting consequences for answering if a dream is a fiction. Lastly,
Curry argues that in dreams we have a bi sociative character, meaning that we have
both the sense of being in the dreamand being a spectator in it, this is an interesting
phenomenon, however, I think that this also exists in normal everyday experience
in the form of reflexive awareness. By reflexive awareness, I mean that we can have
an awareness that we are aware, so this phenomenon is not exclusive to dreams.
Looking at the similarities between film and dreams is an interesting avenue to
examine the question, but does not give a full enough evidence to show that
dreams are indeed fictions, nor does it answer the question if a dream is even like
a film, all it shows is that they have similarities. However, it is possible to think of
a dream as a film, if you imagine a device that can record your dreams and then
project it onto a screen and watch the dream on the screen then the dream would
act as if it were a film, having the same similarities as mentioned above. But, there
would also be a lot lost in the translation as well, such as the bi sociative character
(Curry), and the ability to feel so much in a dream. But due to the ease in which it is
possible to imagine a dream as a film, it strengthens the argument for a
Persuasive Essay On Circus Animals
Circus Animals
Earlier this year, there was a bill introduced to congress to ban wild and exotic
animals and prohibit them from traveling in circuses. Why should circuses have the
right to manipulate or torture these living creatures? While there are arguable
defenses in using animals for entertainment, those defenses do not include the pain
that those living creatures experience in exchange for creating human entertainment
and happiness. For example, these animals are taken away from their natural habitat,
they travel long hours, and are put in cages for most of their lives. According to
Bentham, He claimed that each persons happiness or pleasure was of equal value,
and should be weighted equally when determining how you should act. ... Show more

They are taken away from their families which hurts them emotionally. They are
raised by humans who are trained to care for them, but they cannot substitute for the
love of their mates. In addition, some of the animals that are born in a circus
environment do not understand who they are or what group they belong to. For
instance, if you take a tiger or elephant that has been living in the circus for most of
their lifetime and bring it back to their original habitat, they will not be able to
survive. They will not understand what is to hunt or to survive in the wild. Bentham
explained, You should be motivated to act, not for the sake of your own pleasure, but
also for the sake of others pleasures, too. A circus can entertain large crowds, but at
the end of the day, circus representatives are taking animals from their natural habitats
to pleasure others and they have no right to do so. Ringling Bros. And Barnum Bailey
s circus made a great ethical decision to support the animals rights and support that
animals should not be used for entertainment anymore.
Further support for this unethical justification would be the Traveling Exotic Animal
and Public Safety Protection Act (TEAPSPA). Brulliard used TEAPSPA to state,
would end the suffering of creatures that
The Relationship Between Body Image And Society
Body image and Society have always been interrelated throughout time especially
in maintaining gender roles and imposing the perfect image of the female. It is
society that have dictated how a woman should look and act and both positive and
negative body image is a direct correlation with a woman s social worth. This essay
will discuss how the relationship between body image and society is presented in a
multitude of texts and how these views are differentiated depending on the decade
they are published or created in. The topics being discussed will be the two poems
self in 1958 and honor and obey written by Anne Sexton, two episodes from the

Wolf s The Beauty Myth will be used a point of reference in how non fiction work
depict the relationship between body image and society compared to the two works
of fiction above.
While Sexton s poem Self in 1958 does not have explicit references to body shape, it
is evident that society is directly linked with how women were perceived. upon
some shellacked and grinning person, eyes that open, blue, steel, and close... nylon
legs, luminous arms and some advertised clothes...Someone plays with me, plants
me in the all electric kitchen. (Sexton). The entire poem evokes the image of a
barbie doll being placed in different sections of a doll house being played with. The
object of the poem is stylistically the perfect wife, but it is through being the perfect
wife, or at the least the representation of one that promotes her need to break out
from this societal role. The final stanza of the poem suggests that the object, while
perfect in her role, is being drained of individuality and even life itself. She is
nothing but a synthetic doll who should smile... should spring the doors open in a
wholesome disorder, and have no evidence of ruin or fears? But I would cry, rooted
into the wall that was once my mother, if I could remember how and if I had the tears.
(Sexton). The aggressive diction of the word should further implicates the notion that
society is imposing these regulations onto her, similarly that regulation and
Should Government Monitor Internet Research Paper
To what extent should the government monitor internet content?
Over the years, there has always been a lot of controversy surrounding the topic of
whether or not the government should be able to monitor our activity on the internet.
This especially become a huge debate more recently simply because of the many
terrorist attacks and dangerous events that we’ve encountered. Many believe
that if the government was given more insight to what the people of this country
looked at on the internet, then they would be able to prevent many horrible things
from happening. On the other hand, however, others feel that this is a violation of
personal privacy and therefore should not be allowed. The government already
monitors our internet usage but they are thinking of increasing what they monitory
which has lead to many differing opinions among the people of the United States of
America.
Let’s begin with the facts, currently the government already has been
monitoring our internet activity. For example, for quite a while, the government
surveils our cellphones. One way that this is done is through stingrays, which are
devices that mimic cellphone towers which can be used to pinpoint a a

  • 2. Blanche Dubois Madness Imprisonment is the state of being captive and it can be categorised into physical and mental confinement. Tennessee Williams A Streetcar Named Desire, which was published in 1947, during post World War Two. During this time the issue of mental health was finally becoming acknowledged by the public and more people were being sent to institutions which knew how to deal with these issues. The play s protagonist Blanche experiences this period as she was sent to a mental institution at the end of the play due to her tendencies of living a life of delusion to escape her disappointing reality. In 1946 President Truman signed the National Mental Health Act which, for the first time in the history of the United States, generated a large amount of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This mental illness has led to her living in a self imposed state of denial and deception; this is evident when she states that I don t want realism instead I want magic , suggesting that the reality of her life hasn t been good for her, the loss of Belle Reve and her husband are the reason why she desires to construct a world of her own where she can t lose anything. The fact that she wants a life of magic confirms that she is an escapist who hopes in something more gratifying than reality. This is because she is in denial about her past and lack of permanent relationships in the Old South. Her escapist characteristic is evident through the version of her life which she tells people; Blanche Dubois is a Don Quixote and desires to keep on living in an illusionistic realm so that she won t face reality. Dubois is mentally imprisoned because she begins to believe her own lies. This can be seen through the character of Shep Huntleigh who was first introduced to the audience as an idea of Blanche s imagination in order to rescue her and her sister from a desperate situation , whilst she is being taken away to a mental health institution; she asks whether if Shep is coming take her away on holiday. The fact that she thought it was strange that he hadn t arrived yet although he was a made up lie is a revelation that she is mentally imprisoned in her delusions. The notion of mental imprisonment is mirrored in Lady Lazarus by Sylvia Plath through some intense imagery such as a mangled and burned body. She talks about attempting suicide one year in every ten indicating that she knows how many times she has made an attempt her, and she disturbs the readers using a cat as a simile for having nine times to die . This creates a dark image, because unlike a cat that gets nine lives to live she

Within these stores, there are many different departments and groups of job roles including sales floor customer assistants, store operations, section managers and store managers (Careers.marksandspencer.com, 2016). The strategic direction of Marks and Spencer is to prioritise profitability as well as growing the business, alongside improving performance in all areas of the organisation (Corporate.marksandspencer.com, 2014). This essay will focus on sales floor customer assistant departments within Marks and Spencer. There are many different training methods which the organisation utilises to train and develop their employees in all different departments and groups, however, the three main training methods used to train sales floor customer assistants within Marks and Spencer are on the job training, coaching and off the job training (Blogs.thegrangeschool.net, N.D). According to Pineda (2010) training within an organisation must be evaluated due to their training needs having to have beneficial and profitable outcomes for the business. • 4. Presidential Vs. Parliamentary Systems Of Government There has always been a debate over which form of government is the most stable. For a long time, there was either a choice (within democratic models) of presidential systems of government, in which the executive is all powerful, or parliamentary systems of government, where the legislature is the supreme power. However, in the past century, a middle ground has emerged between the two: semi presidential systems of government. Semi presidential systems, as defined by Maurice Duverger (an early writer on such models), are systems where a presidentof the republic, elected by universal suffrage and given personal powers, co exists with a government resting on the confidence placed in it by parliament . This means that semi presidential models of government generally have a directly elected president and parliament, along with a prime minister, who is appointed. The question of whether these systems are more or less stable than presidential or parliamentary then becomes the focus, and must be looked at in practice for this measure. Semi presidential systems, as seen in France and Russia, can at times be either very stable or very unstable, depending on the composition of a particular government. France, a pioneer in the concept of semi presidential systems, has seen stability go either way, depending on the affiliation of elected officials. Conflict started occurring in the late twentieth century that challenged the stability of the current French system. Russia, since the

  • 6. The Crucial Role of Native Americans Essays For the better part of American history, the Indians have been viewed and portrayed as dimwitted, helpless victims that aimlessly stood by while the Europeans conquered their land, but this view has recently come under fire and has been overturned, as it was determined to be misleading and inaccurate. Two historians that have questioned the legitimacy of past beliefs regarding the Indians are Charles Mann and James Axtell. Each has made it plainly clear in their articles that the actions of Indians should no longer be treated as useless footnotes on the pages of history. While their articles are on seemingly different subjects, their views and beliefs on the importance of Indians in American history are incontrovertibly the same as both... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tisquantum was using the oblivious Europeans for his own means, and although he never achieved his goals, it is worth pointing out that he had ulterior motives for aiding the Pilgrims in their time of need. Mann does a good job of supporting his opinion and showing that Indians were not just aloof and passive but conniving and manipulative like their European counterparts. Unfortunately, in the end all the planning and trickery in the world couldn t have saved the Indians as they were just simply outnumbered and technologically inferior to the Europeans. James Axtell wrote the article entitled, Colonial America Without the Indians and it goes into extreme detail to pinpoint the impact that the Indians had on American history. Axtell picks out important events that irrefutably made the U.S. the country it is today and shows what may have happened had the Indians not been in existence. For example, America may not have been settled as quickly if not for the Indians because explorers wouldn t have known of the hidden gold and silver deposits, many early settlements would likely have failed without knowledge and support from the Indians, and guerilla warfare was practically taught to the Americans by the Indians and became a central piece in the winning of the American Revolution. Most importantly, however, contact with the Indians helped Americanize the settlers. It was the changes in the European culture brought on by the Indians

Why Philosophy Is Still Necessary As I was attempting to brain storm for this assignment, I ran out of ideas so I decided to read the prompt again and again for inspiration and hopefully some new ideas. That is when I realized that the prompt itself had the answer that I was looking for. My answer was sitting there waiting for me in the last sentence of the prompt, The questionwhether Philosophy is still necessary or not remains an intriguing question, triggering different position. Philosophy is still necessary in our modern and scientific world today because Philosophy is the intriguing question that is triggered by several events in different positions in our daily lives. In our fast paced world today, people sometimes tend to want answers all the time without even having to ask questions and unfortunately, technology, media and social media have made that possible. If we are to agree to define Philosophy as the questioning of ourselves and our surroundings in order to acquire knowledge, we would come to realize that without Philosophy we would be living a clueless life. If it was not for Philosophy and the concept of asking questions, then Isaac Newton would have walked away from that tree to see a doctor because an apple fell on his head. However, he started questioning why the apple fell and going after what had made the apple move in the first place. Now one might argue that if it was not for science, we will never have the correct answers, thus they give science more value and cherish it more.

This trend, dubbed The Construction Era by Frank Deford of Sports Illustrated, is prominent in three new American League parks: Oriole Park at Camden Yards, Jacobs Field, and The Ballpark at Arlington. The whole movement was initiated by the construction of Oriole Park at Camden Yards, and it s radical new design concept. The wall in left field is home to green ivy that was brought over from Memorial Stadium. The green seats and the ivy growing on the left center wall help the park to look both open and natural, much like the first ballparks did at the beginning of baseball. Finally, the last characteristic of Camden Yards that make it a retro style park is that it is located in downtown Baltimore. In the young days of baseball most of the ballparks were in the city since that is where a majority of the population lived. Lack of transportation also played a big role in building a ballpark downtown during the beginning days of baseball. Most people walked to the games, so it was important for the first ballparks to be relatively close to the population. The reason the designers of Camden Yards chose to build it downtown was in conjunction with an urban renewal project that was rebuilding, and beautifying the downtown area of Baltimore known as the Inner Harbor. However, three questions related to explanatory variables were not included in the final questionnaire. Firstly, we did not consider access to bank loans because coffee farmers in Mexico are mostly unable to obtain investment credit from lending institutions. Coffeeproducers usually have the option of obtaining short termfinancing (cash advances) either from local traders or from coffee cooperatives for those who are members. However, the availability of long term credit has virtually disappeared making it difficult for producers to defer the costs of implementing over several years (AMECAFE, 2009). Secondly, land tenure arrangements were not factored into the model since the communal land system in Mexico (ejidos) remains the dominant type of ownership especially in the rural areas of the south (Brown, 2004). Households in the sampled area continue to work the land under this traditional system and therefore the inclusion of a variable to capture tenure security could amount to model misspecification. Thirdly, analysis of the data indicated that all surveyed producers affiliated with a farmer association had received extension support through their membership whereas no independent producer had participated in any form of training . In addition, all of those surveyed who had indicated they were members of a producer organization belonged to organic

This verse reaffirms the condemnatory townspeople are judging Hester for her sins, without keeping in mind their own sins. Another verse from the Bible that shows the judgment of sin is a sin itself is John 8:2 9: Early in the morning He went back into the temple courts. All the people came to Him, and He sat down to teach them. And the scribes and Pharisees brought to Him a woman caught in adultery. And again He bent down and wrote Poole 3 on the ground. This marriage is incest because, Gertrude, a widowed wife, marries her brother in law, Claudius who is considered as family during the Elizabethan era. His disturbances present itself in act one, scene two where Hamlet goes through a state of depression because of his father s death, and then leads to anger because of the relationship between Gertrude and Claudius. In brief, Shakespeare utilizes the soliloquies to observe Hamlet and his constant emotional shifts which allows character development throughout the tragedy In one example, Shakespeare employs imagery to develop Hamlet in his state of depression and anger due to the death of his father. • 28. Ultrasound Ultrasound For our project we researched ultrasound which is also commonly known as a Sonogram. The definition of ultrasound is energy that is generated by sound waves of 20,000 or greater vibrations per second. Ultrasound is used in many different arrays. It is most often used in the medical field. Ultrasound uses sound waves that are too high to be heard by the human ear. A part of the ultrasound machine called the transducer is placed on the body part and sound waves are emitted from the transducer and reflected back from organs and tissues. When the wave is sent back to the transducer it puts it into the computer which then measures the length of time it took for the wave to leave and come back and this is what makes up the ... With this ultrasound they are looking specifically at the heart of the unborn child this test can show a better picture of the heart as compared to that of a standard ultrasound. In this test they look for the blood flow to the heart, the rhythm of the heart and the structures of the heart. Echocardiograms can also be done one Adults and children. This is also like a standard abdominal ultrasound except the transducer is placed over the person s heart. They look at the same things as in a fetal echocardiography. They can also use a Doppler examination where they examine the blood flow direction and velocity. The Doppler examination uses high frequency sound waves to create the picture and also uses a Doppler effect to show the direction of the blood flow. The picture of the Doppler examination will show color images or even gray scale tracings of the blood flow. The most common type of echocardiogram is the Transthoracic echocardiogram. • 29. Reflection Of The Marin Oratorio I saw the Marin Oratorio perform in the afternoon at College of Marin. The ensemble played classical was made up of every type of instrument including brass, woodwind, strings, percussion, keyboard and voice. They performed The Seasons by Franz Josef Haydyn. The venue was a pretty large theatre. The stage had two levels with most of the instrumentalists on the bottom and vocalists behind on risers. The stage was separate from the audience but pretty close. I could see nearly everyone, which allowed me to see who was playing each part. The Seasons is made up of four movements: Spring , Summer , Autumn , and Winter . The format is a poem that the vocalists sing backed up and emphasized by the instruments. It is subdivided into 35 verses. The Seasons is based on a collection of poems by James Thomson. It is the love story of common farmers that takes place throughout the seasons. The first movement, Spring is light and playful and has a lot of staccato and spiccato. The last song, Wonderful, powerful, merciful God! , is stronger with more drum and brass and serves as a transition to Summer . The second movement is legato and more powerful. Autumn is about a hunt and excitement. The last movement, Winter , is filled with stories from the soloists and the instruments are mostly backup and play long notes behind the vocalist. The ensemble is arranged with string instruments in the front and center in a semicircle around the conductor with brass behind the violins

Many people who make great achievements in architecture, Howard Burns, Francis Ching et al., Andrea Palladio and Rudolf Wittkower, have all written some words in their books about it. They describe some same characteristics but for different purpose. Symmetrical structure is the most obvious feature of the Villa Rotonda, and all four experts works involve it. Burns, professor in architectural history, look at this villa on a macroscopic level, and he ascribes its symmetry to the influence by Alberti, Raphael and Giulio. As a forerunner in villa design, Alberti puts forward an idea, in De re aedificatoria, that a villa should have a central court or hall, and pedimented portico. All these elements can be found in the Villa Rotonda. Raphael s the Villa Madama becomes a reference when Palladio begins his design. Wittkower, an art historian specializing in Italian Renaissance and Baroque art and architecture , describe Palladio s works as his experiments. He says that Renaissance architects always regarded symmetry as a theoretical requirement in design . Wittkower also mentions that Palladio has already taken lots of studies on the basic geometric pattern of villa before he designs the Villa Rotonda. The architecture and design graphics writer Francis Ching describes its plan and section elevation in detail. He writes ...it is symmetrical around both axes...The building s plan centered on a rotunda originally

In the modern world, people are highly concerned with appearances, features, attractiveness and insecurities, and believe the solution to these problems is cosmetic surgery. People are willing to undergo cosmetic procedures despite many of the possible complications. Liposuction is one most common cosmetic procedures patients choose to undergo in the U.S. Liposuction, or lipoplasty, is the removal of fat from the body. Patients elect to undergo this surgerybecause they are seeking more aesthetically pleasing body shapes, and it is important to know that it is not a substitute for weight loss. Liposuction is simply the reshaping or molding of body parts. The abdomen, butt, and thighs are some of the most common areas of the body that liposuction is performed on. The best candidates for liposuction are people who have good elasticity and skin tone, where the skin molds itself into new contours (Nordqvist). The procedure includes an anesthesia, general or local, depending on the amount of fat that is being removed. Then, small incisions are made in discreet spots of the targeted area of fat removal (Jones). The incisions are typically less than an inch in length. Next, a cannula, a small tube, is inserted into the incisions to loosen the fat by moving it back and forth, and it is then suctioned out using a surgical vacuum or syringe attached to

In 1558, the half century reign of Elizabeth 1 began, Englands interest to the other side of the Atlantic grew. Elizabeth maneuvered through the difficulties of being a female monarch by refusing to marry, having no kids, and maintaining a reputation for chastity. Standardization Sample Alternate form reliability was computed by administering two parallel forms of the test (Form A and B), both including the 19 subtests of the final edition. Validity was established by administering one of five alternate measures of cognitive ability and academic performance to participants. Standardization data was collected over approximately one calendar year (August 2012 to July 2013). Two sets of sample data were derived, age norm (n = 2,050) and grade norm (n = 2,600), with data for grade norms collected in the fall and spring to obtain expected skill levels at those times of the year. These groups, however, do not yield a total sample size of 4,650 participants; the age and grade norms were calibrated using data from the students at a specific grade level who were of the expected age for that level. This procedure yielded approximately 1,300 students in the fall (grade based) normative sample and 1,300 students in the spring normative sample. Likewise, there were 1,025 females and 1,025 males in the age norms sample. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In modern times, the aim of public finance is not merely to raise sufficient financial resources for meeting administrative expenses, for maintenance of law and order and to protect the country from foreign aggression. On the other hand, the sphere of public finance has been very much extended. It is now considered a powerful instrument of important economic and social objectives. The most important objective before these countries is to accelerate their economic growth through mobilizing internal resources. The under developed countries, like Bangladesh, are caught up in the vicious circle of poverty. Consequently, such countries are not able to save much and whether individual savings or collective savings are only a small fraction of their national income. This means that a much greater tax effort is called for to raise country s growth rate to a reasonable level. Since private savings and capital formation are meager in Bangladesh, the responsibility of resource mobilization for economic growth falls on the State. That is why the role of public finance in developing countries is very important. For accelerating economic growth, the government has to adopt a tax policy which may raise the rates of saving and capital formation in the country. Since private investment is not adequate for the purpose, the government has to make up the deficiency of private investment by increasing public investment and for that purpose raises resources through taxation. In the middle of NGC 1672 s galaxy, it contains a high surface brightness bar from which four wire like spiral arms extend outwards. This galaxy s symmetrical look is mainly formed by the four extending arms of which are bordered with the most spectacular dust lines that extend out from the center. Unlike the normal galaxies, NGC 1672 s arms do not fully spiral all the way to the center. The arms are actually connected to both ends of a linear like bar of stars encompassing the nucleus. In fact, the arms extending from the middle of this galaxy is the main reason I was drawn to this image. These symbolic systems of communication can be called rituals , which were created differently in different areas and time periods, and which were always changing. Ritual traditions are evidenced to have changed quite dramatically from PPNB to PPNC through burial practices. Five prominent changes occurred: 1) decapitation of the deceased no longer occurred; 2) subfloor burials did not occur past the early PPNC, and instead burials were in courtyards; 3) there was a nearly equal number of primary and secondary burials which Rollefson says is suggestive of a large part of the village population as only part time residents; 4) the production and use of figurines decreased dramatically, possibly indicating that individual levels of interactions with spirits decreased as a ritual practice; and 5) the pig bones found in (mostly secondary) burials may represent of the relationship the person had with animals such as full time Ain Ghazal resident farmers and pastoralists (Rollefson, 2000, p. 178 9). As Shakespearelearned in seeking to answer this question, love is many things, which in this play he observes through the characters of the play, but most directly through Silvius: It is to be all made of fantasy, All made of passion and all made of wishes, All adoration, duty, and observance, All humbleness, all patience and impatience, All purity, all ... There are few names with such a reputation, and one of them is the legendary Robin Hood. In this way Shakespeare shows the selflessness of love. Then my parents parted their ways, but as I d seen in fantasized movies, parents would still both chip in equally in order to assist their growing children. I never realized in my case the only support I d be getting from my father would be financially. I won t lie it was stung for a bit realizing that I lived two houses away from my father and he didn t even bother to stop by just to see how I was doing. I was working so hard in school so that one day when he did stop by I d show him all my honor roll and perfect attendance certificates, alas, that never

The period covered in this book is a very short one, covering the building of the Atlantic wall in little detail, and in great detail, the few days before D Day and the initial attacks on D Day itself. On the German side Hitler has ordered the building of a massive Atlantic Wall to stop any Allied attackers from landing on the western seaboard, from the Kirkenes to the Pyrenees. After defeat in Africa, Field Marshall Erwin Rommel is sent to inspect and oversee the wall s completion. After seeing the horrible state of the wall Rommel worked to complete the wall as quickly as possible. He had the German and French coast of the English Channel and their beaches filled with mines. Rommel then placed heavy fortifications behind the beaches to stop any attackers who made it past the beach defenses. In Great Britain, the Supreme Allied Commander, General Eisenhower was planning the date to launch the massive attack on Normandy, but his time frame was limited due to a bad storm in the area. On June 5, 1944 the ships were launched only to be recalled back just 40 miles from the German forts along the coast of Normandy. If Eisenhower did not launch on the 6th, he wouldn t be able to launch for another two weeks. So the early the next morning the slowest ships and the

CHAPTER 2 Review of literature: The problems faced by the International students without a Social Security Number at Pittsburg State University. Introduction The study conducted by Savage (2007) describes when international students arrive in the United States, students are challenged by the many issues: language, academics and they have to adjust to many things like living, making communication, cultures, weather, transportation because they vary from one region to another region (Savage, 2007) The other types of difficulties international students face when they move to USA are finding a place to live, communicating with foreign citizens, adjusting to the teaching style and getting essential utilities for their daily needs. Finding new people to making friends with is also important for international students in order to build their social status. Discrimination is another issue that mainly international students have to overcome (Savage, 2007). Other tasks international students have to figure other than studying are finding a job, obtaining a Social Security Number and obtaining a driver s license. International students also face difficulty in adjusting to the new transition in their studying environment. Due to the language barrier, international students may feel uncomfortable while interacting with office workers in order to obtain SSN s and also in fulling their daily needs (Savage, 2007). • 51. Similarities Between Dreams And Dreams One of the interesting differences between the two is that often, we are aware of watching a film, but not that we are in a dream, which is an important difference that can have interesting consequences for answering if a dream is a fiction. Lastly, Curry argues that in dreams we have a bi sociative character, meaning that we have both the sense of being in the dreamand being a spectator in it, this is an interesting phenomenon, however, I think that this also exists in normal everyday experience in the form of reflexive awareness. By reflexive awareness, I mean that we can have an awareness that we are aware, so this phenomenon is not exclusive to dreams. Looking at the similarities between film and dreams is an interesting avenue to examine the question, but does not give a full enough evidence to show that dreams are indeed fictions, nor does it answer the question if a dream is even like a film, all it shows is that they have similarities. However, it is possible to think of a dream as a film, if you imagine a device that can record your dreams and then project it onto a screen and watch the dream on the screen then the dream would act as if it were a film, having the same similarities as mentioned above. But, there would also be a lot lost in the translation as well, such as the bi sociative character (Curry), and the ability to feel so much in a dream. But due to the ease in which it is possible to imagine a dream as a film, it strengthens the argument for a
  • 52. Persuasive Essay On Circus Animals Circus Animals Earlier this year, there was a bill introduced to congress to ban wild and exotic animals and prohibit them from traveling in circuses. Why should circuses have the right to manipulate or torture these living creatures? While there are arguable defenses in using animals for entertainment, those defenses do not include the pain that those living creatures experience in exchange for creating human entertainment and happiness. For example, these animals are taken away from their natural habitat, they travel long hours, and are put in cages for most of their lives. According to Bentham, He claimed that each persons happiness or pleasure was of equal value, and should be weighted equally when determining how you should act. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They are taken away from their families which hurts them emotionally. They are raised by humans who are trained to care for them, but they cannot substitute for the love of their mates. In addition, some of the animals that are born in a circus environment do not understand who they are or what group they belong to. For instance, if you take a tiger or elephant that has been living in the circus for most of their lifetime and bring it back to their original habitat, they will not be able to survive. They will not understand what is to hunt or to survive in the wild. Bentham explained, You should be motivated to act, not for the sake of your own pleasure, but also for the sake of others pleasures, too. A circus can entertain large crowds, but at the end of the day, circus representatives are taking animals from their natural habitats to pleasure others and they have no right to do so. Ringling Bros. And Barnum Bailey s circus made a great ethical decision to support the animals rights and support that animals should not be used for entertainment anymore. Further support for this unethical justification would be the Traveling Exotic Animal and Public Safety Protection Act (TEAPSPA). Brulliard used TEAPSPA to state, would end the suffering of creatures that
  • 53. The Relationship Between Body Image And Society Body image and Society have always been interrelated throughout time especially in maintaining gender roles and imposing the perfect image of the female. It is society that have dictated how a woman should look and act and both positive and negative body image is a direct correlation with a woman s social worth. This essay will discuss how the relationship between body image and society is presented in a multitude of texts and how these views are differentiated depending on the decade they are published or created in. The topics being discussed will be the two poems self in 1958 and honor and obey written by Anne Sexton, two episodes from the Television Show Buffy the Vampire slayerand finally Naomi Wolfs texts The Beauty Myth.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wolf s The Beauty Myth will be used a point of reference in how non fiction work depict the relationship between body image and society compared to the two works of fiction above. While Sexton s poem Self in 1958 does not have explicit references to body shape, it is evident that society is directly linked with how women were perceived. upon some shellacked and grinning person, eyes that open, blue, steel, and close... nylon legs, luminous arms and some advertised clothes...Someone plays with me, plants me in the all electric kitchen. (Sexton). The entire poem evokes the image of a barbie doll being placed in different sections of a doll house being played with. The object of the poem is stylistically the perfect wife, but it is through being the perfect wife, or at the least the representation of one that promotes her need to break out from this societal role. The final stanza of the poem suggests that the object, while perfect in her role, is being drained of individuality and even life itself. She is nothing but a synthetic doll who should smile... should spring the doors open in a wholesome disorder, and have no evidence of ruin or fears? But I would cry, rooted into the wall that was once my mother, if I could remember how and if I had the tears. (Sexton). The aggressive diction of the word should further implicates the notion that society is imposing these regulations onto her, similarly that regulation and
  • 54. Should Government Monitor Internet Research Paper To what extent should the government monitor internet content? Over the years, there has always been a lot of controversy surrounding the topic of whether or not the government should be able to monitor our activity on the internet. This especially become a huge debate more recently simply because of the many terrorist attacks and dangerous events that we’ve encountered. Many believe that if the government was given more insight to what the people of this country looked at on the internet, then they would be able to prevent many horrible things from happening. On the other hand, however, others feel that this is a violation of personal privacy and therefore should not be allowed. The government already monitors our internet usage but they are thinking of increasing what they monitory which has lead to many differing opinions among the people of the United States of America. Let’s begin with the facts, currently the government already has been monitoring our internet activity. For example, for quite a while, the government surveils our cellphones. Many do not like for their immediate family members to have the knowledge of their internet activity, so why would they want the government to have this
