Electronic Communications Privacy Act ( Ecpa )
Abstract
The Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA) was a pretty progressive law at the time it was
enacted. It enhanced the privacy protection that was originally delineated in the Omnibus Crime
Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 by also adding communication protection for pagers, email, cell
phones, service providers, and computer transmissions. The ECPA addressed the legal privacy issues
that were surfacing with the rising use of networks, computers and other new innovations in electronic
communications. The first large computers had been built as early as the 1950s, with the first
development of a mass market microcomputer starting in 1977. The development of ARPANET in the
late 1960s and early 1970s would eventually lead to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ECPA safeguards electronic, oral, and wire communications during creation, in transit, in storage
and relates to electronic mail, phone conversations, and data that is stored electronically. The intended
purpose of the legislation is to reassure customers that their private information will remain secure
from public exposure. The ECPA includes three main provisions for communications privacy titled the
Wiretap Act, Stored Communications Act, and Pen Register Act.
Wiretap Act
The Wiretap Act has provisions that safeguard an individual s telephonic and computer based voice
communications from being captured, used or released by another individual. This Act prohibits the
listen in on and electronic bugging, the physical custody of bugging or tapping equipment, as well as
the use or disclosure of information unlawfully obtained from the use of said equipment. (Unknown,
2013). The Act also provides exceptions for service providers, in specific instances, and for law
enforcement to perform electronic eavesdropping, under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. It
affords processes for government entities to acquire judicial consent for obtaining such
communications, and controls the usage and release of this information acquired from legal
eavesdropping.
Stored Communications Act
The Stored Communications Act encompasses the rights of

A Consumer Love Affair
Advertisers have increasingly pushed the limits of cultural acceptance in a competition to arouse the
consumers attention. In the new H M commercial that aired for Super Bowl XLVIII, David Beckham
performs James Bond type maneuvers while wearing only his underwear. Clearly, this commercial
content attempts to appeal to visual, emotional, and primal desires. Sex and the need to reproduce are
intense desires that many advertisements use as a delivery platform for product sales. Actors and
advertising models are depicted as objects of worship and often bear an unrealistic aesthetic
perfection, only achieved by spray brushing and graphic alterations. Advertising spotlights the actor as
the consumable product and equates happiness with purchases. Traditional values are being replaced
with morally questionable behavior. The commercial for H M showcases unrealistic body images to
promote products, through appeals to human sexual desire, thereby degrading the value of intimacy. H
M wants consumers to feel pleasure when purchasing from them. The men will feel strong and
attractive. The female consumers will associate H M clothing with an attractive man. This is the
sensation that John F. Schumaker points out in The Happiness Conspiracy: What Does It Mean to Be
Happy in a Modern Consumer Society, when he casts a critical eye on popular culture s calibration of
happiness and contends it mirrors the supreme value that consumer culture attaches to the romancing

Hamlet And Ophelia Character Analysis
In the play Hamlet, by William Shakespeare, the complexity of Hamlet s relationship with Ophelia is a
inconclusive subplot to the overarching idea of the play. After the tragic murder of Hamlet s father,
Hamlet is overcome with his desire for revenge, which is evident throughout his interactions with
characters. A character most affected is Ophelia, who is in conflict over their relationship, one that
eventually leads to her tragic downfall. Hamlet and Ophelia s relationship was at one point a intimate
and loving relationship; however, Hamlet s revenge schemes suppresses and overshadows those
feelings of love, eventually leading to the tragic deaths of the two lovers. Hamlet and Ophelia had
strong feelings of love for each other, which is displayed throughout their interactions with one
another. After Ophelia s death, Hamlet displays his true feelings for Ophelia by saying I loved
Ophelia. Forty thousand brothers/Could not with all their quantity of love/Make up my sum. What wilt
thou do for her? (5.1.). Hamlet s words in the quote display an enduring, everlasting love, suggesting
that their relationship was meaningful and real. Hamlet would have done anything for Ophelia and
Ophelia likewise, emphasizing a relationship with strong feelings of love and affection. Hamlet and
Ophelia had a serious and committed relationship as Ophelia said You promised me to wed. /He
answers: So would I a done, by yonder sun (4.5.). The extent of their relationship was a very intense

Vincent Van Gogh Struggles
Vincent Van Gogh famously stated, If you hear a voice in you say you cannot paint , then by all means
paint, and that voice will be silenced. One would never engage in an activity in which you have no
skill. To achieve this skill you must engage in this activity frequently and learn from one s errors. The
only thing that will detain you from achieving this is doubt and fear. Vincent Van Gogh had
perseverance and did not cease his love for painting. He is a famous figure in art history hence he had
a thrilling and intriguing life and stood out from most painters from his time. Vincent had many
struggles in life mentally, emotionally, and physically. But he assimilated from these and carried on
with his life, which was mostly traveling, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Vincent was secretive and did not blend in with other children. Elisabeth later claimed not only were
his little brothers and sisters like a stranger to him, but he was a stranger to himself as well.(Vincent
pg 7 paragraph 5) however, he would engage in the family life and show affection in his home circle.
Vincent could be in a moment of excitement and then in a moment of depression and sadness. There
were multiple moments that impacted Vincent s life. He traveled to many places to work and never
saw hope in life until he met and fell in love with Ursula ( who was his landlady s daughter). When
Vincent gained enough courage, he avowed his love for her and also asked her to marry him. She
laughed claiming she was already engaged and Vincent, after hearing this, became heartbroken and
returned to his depressing state with the belief that there is no hope in life. Furthermore, Vincent was
mentally challenged, he became fixated and close to God and the bible. It behooved him to become a
pastor like his father, and so he did. He wanted to send God s message to the crowd in sermons but
became too obsessed. Vincent had a fervent sense of vocation but was handicapped by his instability,
his excessive zeal and exaggeration he displayed in everything he took up. Once, he attempted to
persuade his listeners that, sorrow is better than joy ( Vincent pg 18 paragraph 6). Furthermore, at the
age of 27, he chose drawing as his medium of expression with the

Cop Narrative
I looked outside the window where everybody else was gathered. The cops were talking to the host of
the party and calling the parents of the people at the party. I heard footsteps by the stairs when I
realized that I was not down there with them. A cop came bursting into the room I was in and brought
me outside. When the cop brought me outside, a drunken person from the crowd came up to a cop and
grabbed his gun. None of the cops noticed until he shot the gun in the air. Everyone who was sober
ducked and all of the cops pointed their guns to the drunken person. Drop the weapon now a cop said
through some speakerphone. The drunken person shot another bullet into the air. An officer came up
behind her and pinned her to the ground taking away

Reflection Of A Reflection On Teaching
Reflection for Co Teaching This semester was my first time working with 3rd graders at an IB school.
This type of school is structured much differently than all the other elementary schools in Jefferson
County. The curriculum at this school is a concept driven curriculum that helps students construct
meaning through improved critical thinking skills. This means that the lessons taught are inquiry
based. Inquiry based instruction is centered on posing questions and establishing facts through
exploration rather than simply presenting the facts to the students. With that being said, my
cooperating teacher (CT) planned a very interactive Science lesson to get his students engaged in
learning and doing Science. My CT told me that he did not have a specific book to teach with, yet he
had essential questions and standards that needed to be met in Science. The lesson was centered on the
3rd grade Colorado academic standard 2, concept 2, which pertained to the concept of the duration
and timing of life cycle events in different organisms. The essential question of how humans can have
a negative or positive impact on the life cycle of animals and insects was also a guiding factor in the
lesson. My CT and one of his co workers that taught 3rd grade came up with this lesson with the help
of the Butterfly Pavilion, who provided specimens, exploration, and butterfly holder nets for the
classroom.
This lesson was a great activity that captivated an idea learned in my college class that

Sales Manager Memo
The reason I am writing a memorandum today is to discuss the much needed new position of a Tri
State Promotional Manager. The explanation for this new position will be outlined specifically and
clearly to highlight how this position will help grow the new product line beyond original calculations
of sales. In recent months our new sporting line Witlow Sporting Gear has increased in sales in a very
steady and reasonable expected growth. However, due to the steady growth the Witlow products will
flat line its profits within 8 months, according to sales data that my marketing team has prepared. My
team of marketing analysts and sales strategist recommends that Thomas Sporting Goods, Inc. create a
new approach for promotions for the Witlow ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Witlow brand line. Reginald Mimms has been with our organizations for 10 years of service; he has
exceeded all sales projections that he has been in charge of. He knows Thomas Sporting Goods, Inc.
inside and out; he has always had the company s best interest as top priority. As the regional Assistant
Sales Manager he has proven to be an asset that we can t lose, his promotion would benefit the
company greatly. Therefore, I would suggest his promotion to the new position of Tri State
Promotional Manager. This promotion would initially be a five year contract, with an option to renew
after the five years is up. This will not put the company into a financial debt. Mr. Mimms has chosen
to take a very modest salary increase to step into this new role. After the initial five years has expired
and if Thomas Sporting God, Inc. would like to retain Mr. Mimms for a longer period of time, then we
will renegotiate his salary based on the new sales and profit gains that the company has experienced
under his new title. In short, this is a win win situation for all involved. Please take this Memorandum

The Perception Of Black Males And Their Personal...
Perceptions is what we perceive, what we think we see and know vs what another sees towards the
same object or person. But something we must always keep in mind is these stigmas we have aren t
always true. One controversial miss perceptions are black lives particularly black males in America.
Viewed by a lot of people as thugs, gang bangers, and crooks, harsh and untrue things of the major of
the population. a group of individually regularly looked at and put under scrutiny its people constantly
put under a microscope if near the scene of any crime, or harassed verbally by authority figure. We
must not let our perception of black males cause a divide and allow the stigmas that are attributed to
them to instill fear and cause hatred in our nation. We will critically analyze speeches by Brent staples,
Coffey Anderson, and Steve lock particularly at their views of the perception of black males and their
personal experience on handling the stigmas associated with them. Brent staples takes an interesting
position on the stigma of black males in America, in his 1980 s recount of his life as a black male in
the city of New York he mentions a deep yet simple cause of violence upon black life s. In our day to
day life lives in the us in urban America when fear particularly racial fear of a person of group of

The Importance of Self-Awareness in Counselling
HOW DOES A COUNSELLOR DIFFER FROM A FRIEND? Folashade Oloniyo Abstract In this
essay, the characteristics of a counsellor and a friend will be expanded upon in order to gain a greater
knowledge for deciphering the two. We all have been in situations where we hit a brick wall in our life
and are unsure of the next step or the next move to make. We have close friends to whom we can turn
and reach out to, but in some situations, are they really our best option for help? Friends are needed
for support on many levels, but on others, professional reinforcement may be of greater good. With
that said, I challenge you the reader and ask the questions: What is counselling? How does a

judgmental at whatever is said to you by your client. I can recall feeling slightly judgmental; I thought
to myself that my client/friend was making completely unhealthy and unwise decisions. Her actions
were so silly and desperate and completely opposite to how I would have acted. I attempted to transfer
my views as diplomatically as possible, trying not to cause a wall of defense to be built. In an actual
client and counsellor setting, this type of thinking definitely defies objectivity standpoints that
counsellors should ensue. Objectivity is

Sacrifice In Duty, Humility, And Tax
Many people do not realize that they sacrifice something every single day, whether its not texting at
the dinner table or saving their money just to buy their loved one a gift. There are many forms of
sacrifice that provide a different feeling each time someone sacrifices in a different way. Although one
must know the proper time to sacrifice something without expecting to be rewarded.
There are many types of different sacrifices that one must learn about in order to achieve a feeling of
accomplishment each time one gives something up. For example duty, humility, and tax are all
different types of sacrifice. When you must give up your free time in order to get something done this
is considered duty sacrifice. Duty sacrifice is the most common because it occurs on a daily basis and
increases with age. For instance, doing homework rather than going to the movies with friends or
going to work on someones birthday. Then there is the sacrifice of humility, this is giving up your
pride in order to achieve something. An example of this would be choosing a peers idea over your own
in a group project. This kind of sacrifice is not common yet it still occurs. Lastly there is tax sacrifice
which is paying money in order to purchase something that is necessary . This could be paying a bill
or buying school supplies when you want to purchase the new video game that just came out. ... Show

Comparison Essay On My Truck
My car and my truck are complete opposites of each other on paper, but there are some similarities
they share. The truck is a blue 1974 Chevy C10, and the car is a red 1998 Chevy Cavalier. In my
opinion my car is safer, but the truck is cooler. I will be contrasting the body styles, the safety features,
and the technical differences. I will also be comparing the basic features. First of all, the body styles
are completely different. Well, the truck has a blue body with a body on frame type of construction. It
also has a two piece body, the cab and the bed. The car has a small, red, stream line body designed for
aerodynamics. It has a uni body design, meaning the body and the frame is one thing. body on frame
means that the body sits on the frame and is removable. Secondly, the safety features on the car are
vastly superior to the ones on the truck. The car has breaking points all over its body, so that in a
wreck it will be damaged worse to soften the impact. The truck just has a rigid steel body designed to
stay intact, while that s better for repairs, it s not better for injuries. My car also has airbags, anti lock
brakes, and a three point seat belt. The truck has a two point seatbelt also known as a lap belt. The car
is remarkably safer. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Genetics And Biotechnology And Its Effect On The World...
The definition of biotechnology, according to the fourth addition biology book from BJU press, states
that Biotechnology is the use of technology to enhance living organisms and processes.
Their are many aspects of biotechnoogy including cloning, genetic engineering, stem cell technology,
gene therapy and genetically modified plants and food. I will be splitting this paper off into sections
by these specific aspects in order to learn more about genetics and biotechnology and its effect on the
world around us. So let s dive in. Section 1. Cloning
There are three common types of clones:natural clones, artificial clones and last but not least human
clones.
Natural cloning occurs when animals without man s intervention create a native, unaffected genetic
copy of themselves as their young. This occurs by asexually reproduction, a process in which certain
animals don t need two parents in order to create a young, but can make sperm themselves. Organisms
that are multicellular can reproduce by processes such as: fragmentation, budding or produce spores
from asexual reproduction from natural clones. Natural clones make an exact genetic copy of
themselves except in the fetus stage. The organisms that can make a natural clone are some jellyfish,
some insects and some worms. Unlike most animals that are more common to us such as fish, birds
and mammals reproduce sexually making them inapplicable for natural cloning. Unlike the animal
kingdom, plants can easily make clones and

The Two Storms in Kate Chopin’s story “The Storm Essay
In Kate Chopin s story The Storm it talks about love and lust. It speaks of two kind of storm that
occurs. These two storms I find to be the central part of the story, and is being represented as a symbol
within the story. The first storm is the most obvious one that Bibi and Bobinot are faced with. The
second storm isn t that visible for it involves Calixta and Alcee. Just as like most storms they come
and pass.
As the story begins we find Bibi and Bobinot on their way home. They were at Friedheimer s store;
they notice the dark clouds flowing with evil intentions to the west. As its howl pierced the sky they
decided to stay until the storm had passed. As Bibi worries for his mother, Bobinot reassures him that

starts to builds up within Calixta s home as she allows Alcee in.
Calixta worries frantically about Bibi and Bobinot as the storm outside becomes more aggressive and
making an uproar. Alcee notices her worrying and he attempts to comfort her. As Chopin shows us
how the second storm starts to build up:
Calixta put her hands to her eyes, and with a cry, staggered backward. Alcee s arm encircled her, and
for an instant he drew he close and spasmodically to him (196).
Calixta doesn t realize what was going on because she was still concerned for Bobinot and Bibi.
Alcee reminisce with her where they more intimate with each other. Calixta was too late and got
caught in this second storm, which she later did not mind at all. The lust Alcee had for Calixta
conquered him. The storm outside was abrupt and intense. Alcee and Calixta attention was diverted
from this storm. Calixta was lost in this second storm enjoying this one more. She seem to not to stress
over Bibi and Bobinot safety anymore. As Chopin illustrates to her readers:
They did not heed the crashing torrents, and the roar of the elements made her laugh as she

Hybrid Vehicle Disadvantages
The pros and cons of Hybrid/Alternative Fueled Vehicles:
There are many factors to consider when purchasing a Hybrid or Alternative Fueled Vehicle. Most
times when searching for a vehicle, consumers tend to search for amenities to help cut cost. When
considering alternative fueled vehicles, consumers have to keep in mind that there are several types of
hybrid vehicles with different operating abilities to choose from to satisfy the needs of the consumers.
With hybrids, there are three types which are hybrid electric vehicles, plug in hybrid electric vehicles
and all electric vehicles. Since they all operate differently, it is important to be informed to ensure the
consumer is happy and satisfied with their investment.
Hybrid Electric Vehicles consist of gasoline engines, electric motors and use advanced technology to
operate. One of the technologies used is a regenerative braking, which recaptures energy that is lost
during coasting or braking. The use of the forward wheels is what turns the motor which generates
electricity and assist to slow the vehicle. There is also a normal hydraulic braking system that stops
the vehicle when the regenerative system isn t sufficient. Another technology used is the Electric
Motor Drive/Assist which allows the electric motor to provide power and assist the engine in
accelerating, passing and hill climbing. It also allows a smaller, more efficient engine to be used. The
electric motor in hybrids drives the vehicle at low speeds,

Examples Of Injustice In King Lear
Greed; the inventor and enforcer of injustice. The selfish desire for power overtakes all morals and
values, which is shown prominently in the classic tragedy, King Lear. The characters of Lear and
Gloucester discover the effect of injustice through betrayal and the silence of their gods. Their
journeys of self discovery are shown through Shakespeare s use of symbolism, literary devices and
parallelism. Though one could argue that the banishment and dismissal of those close to them creates
an initial catalyst for chaos throughout the kingdom, the fate of these characters calls the Elizabethan
audience to question whether actions or beliefs decide ones destiny.
Shakespeare shows King Lear s experience of injustice through acts of dishonesty

Too little care of this! Take physic, pomp;
Expose thyself to feel what wretches feel,
That thou may st shake the superflux to them
And show the heavens more just (3.4.32 36)
In doing so, Lear strips down to show his vulnerability. Clothing is now nothing more than a mask
used to disguise ones true self. Naked, insane, and isolated out in the storm, Lear sees that the Gods
must be capable of torment, after feeling susceptible from the effects of the storm and the isolation.
The emotional violence that Lear endeavours leads to his insanity, which ultimately plays a critical
role in his development of a character.
Similar to Lear s revolution, Gloucester is the mirror image of Lear s ego. Through
Gloucester s lack of appreciation and his selfish acts, he inherits the illusion of trust from him two
sons where only one stays loyal. Injustice causes the turning of Edmund
Gloucester s evil son shown through an un natural uprising of father to son, ending ultimately with the
betrayal between Gloucester and Edmund. Similarly to Lear

Should Ceos Be On The Board Essay
Should CEOs be on the Board?
By direction of the board, a foundation s top executive staff person (titled CEO for this discussion)
manages all aspects of the organization. CEOs typically oversee the foundation s money, time and
human resources and act as a liaison between the board and staff. Rather than keeping the CEO in a
strictly managerial position, some boards award them a role in governance as well, offering the CEO
full membership and in some cases, voting rights on the board. CEOs who sit on the board hold a
position of great privilege but also great responsibility. With an equal voice at the board table, CEOs
can enjoy more stature and influence among board members. Yet, at times, they may feel conflicted

Race In Sociology
Race is a concept that was socially constructed to structure a hierarchical order that poses some races
as superior to others. This concept is unable to explain human genome variation and evolution, thus
nullifying the flawed concept with scientific evidence. Human variation occurs because of evolution, a
biological process that all organisms involuntary undergo so that they can adapt to their environment
to maximize their chances of survival. In contrast, race explains human variation as physical
differences that determine power of one group over another. To truly understand why race is such an
uneducated and outdated idea, one must study the semantics of the term, why it was socially
constructed, the genetic evidence that proves that we are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People believe that populations that evolved together constitutes a race. They think that Blacks are one
race that stayed in Africa, Asians are another race that migrated to Asia, and Whites are another race
because they moved to Europe. But these groups only represent the extreme physical differences in
humans. And these groups only represent a small percentage of the world s people, which is not
useful. As human history progressed and humans moved out of Africa, they were always
differentiating along the way. Race cannot explain the incredible diversity of mankind; it is not
possible to organize this huge diversity of 7 billion people into so few categories. Shared traits are not
random. For example, the dark skin of Somalian and Ghanaian people indicates that they evolved
under heavy sun rays. But that s all it shows; they are not more closely related (using genetic
evidence) than any other group in the world. Sharon Begley argues that labeling Somalians and
Ghanaians as Blacks does not show anything about their evolutionary history and even falsely
assumes that they are more closely related than someone of another race (Begley 67). Humans are all

Summary Of The Gospel Of Wealth By Andrew Carnegie
Response Paper: Andrew Carnegie The Gospel of Wealth was written by Andrew Carnegie in 1889.
Carnegie used the essay to argue that individual capitalists were duty bound to play a broader cultural
and social role and thus improve the world, though there were those that disagreed with him, writing
their own share of essays in response and creating a lively debate (History Matters 1). Carnegie,
unlike his peers, believed that it was the responsibility of the newly formed upper class, consisting of
those who had made their own fortunes, to engage in acts of philanthropy. He believed that the best
way to deal with the wealth inequality that resulted from their creation of their own fortunes was to
redistribute their wealth in a manner that was not only responsible, but beneficial to all. ... Show more

Carnegie s essay came in in the early middle of this transformation, after which time he, and others
like him, had recently made their own fortunes. Due to a lack of a separation between the wealthy and
the poor, Carnegie was able to see the disparate nature of wealth and, being a God fearing man,
created his Gospel of Wealth as a means of working to attempt to address the inequalities he saw,
serving as a middle ground through which it was possible to still be a self made man while at the same
time working to increase overall culture and appreciation for all. The libraries and the buildings and
other works that Carnegie funneled some of his many funds into are still visible today, serving as a
physical reminder not only of what a single individual can do with the right dedication and talent, but
also serving as a reminder of a time when the value system within the country was markedly

Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheim Analysis
When the topic of significant historical figures from the mid 17th century to present arises, people s
minds typically gravitate towards a handful of usual suspects. Some examples might include George
Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Winston Churchill, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, to include villainous
figures such as Benito Mussolini, Joseph Stalin, and of course, Adolph Hitler. While these impactful
historical characters are indeed intriguing, as there are countless books, articles, documentaries, and
other literary pieces telling their respective stories, it is also important to learn and become further
educated on other, less known historical figures. We all are pieces that eventually fit into our world s
grand historical puzzle. And without historical education and learning about the people that paved the
path for the world today, we can never truly understand today s world. Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheim
is a sizable piece of our historical puzzle, and his story is one that deserves recognition. Born on June
4, 1867, Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheim was born into a wealthy family. He was son to a Swedish
nobleman who was highly regarded in his society. Carl Gustaf spoke better in Swedish and Russian
tongue than he could in Finnish, but this would prove obsolete in his ability to accel in Finland later in
life.1 Mannerheim started his military education at the Hamina Cadet School, though he was
eventually expelled from the institution due to disciplinary reasons.2 Following

C6H12O6  C3H4O3  C2H6O + CO2
Ethanol or as we know as alcohol in our beverages can be made from any fruit or vegetable that
performs photosynthesis which produces glucose shown As required as the reactant of the previous
equations.
Balanced chemical equation for Photosynthesis:
6CO2 + 6H2O  C6H12O6 + 6O2 (light energy is used as a catalyst in this equation)
Balanced chemical equation for the fermentation of glucose to ethanol:
C6H12O6(aq)  2C2H5OH(l) + 2CO2(g) (yeast acts as a catalyst in this reaction.)
As the diagram on the right displays, one molecule of Glucose produces two molecules of carbon
dioxide and two molecules of ethanol. The fermentation of glucose to ethanol is only possible if
oxygen is absent otherwise instead of producing ethanol and carbon dioxide, lactic acid is produced
instead.
The first part of the breakdown of glucose is known as Glycolysis, in which one molecule of glucose
is broken down to two molecules of pyruvate (C3H4O3). The second part is the fermentation process
in which the two pyruvate molecules are converted to two molecules of ethanol and two molecules of
carbon dioxide.
PART B
i. Ethanol is considered as a alternative fuel at a lower cost level in relation to gasoline. It is produced
by fermenting sugars from a range of feedstock such as wheat and corn. Ethanol is blended with
gasoline from E10 (5% ethanol 95% gasoline) to E85 (85% ethanol 15% gasoline).

The Aeneid Vs Odyssey
Before comparing the actual stories of The Aeneid and The Iliad, one must consider the remarkable
success that the two respective stories have received since their origins in ancient Greece and Rome.
Homer, author of The Iliad and its famous counterpart The Odyssey, is a legendary figure in history.
Some question his actual existence and prefer to regard his two most famous works as stories of oral
tradition that were constructed and refined with thousands of retellings by numerous poets over time.
Others see Homer as a real man who entertained guests with his witty, complex stories and later had
scribes write down his famous words. It will be assumed throughout this paper that Homer did exist
for the sake of simplicity. On the other hand, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite the major differences between the overall plot of the two books, the final battle scenes are
remarkably similar. As with anything, there is always a precursor to the end that informs the audience
of the impending crisis that the protagonist will have to face. For the Iliad and the Aeneid, this
precursor comes in the form of a shield given by divine powers. Both Achilles and Aeneas were in
desperate need of a new shield that would not only offer protection against the strongest spear
throwers but also provoke intimidation and wonder. Achilles had given his previous shield to Patrocles
and subsequently lost it to looting due to Patrocles s tragic death. Aeneas, meanwhile, was at the tail
end of an epic journey across much of the ancient world. His people had lost almost everything in the
sacking of Troy and although he had weapons they were not powerful enough and not worthy enough
for the leader of the quest. Both receive shields from divine sponsers. Achilles entreats his mother for
help and she convinces the blacksmith Hephaestus to craft a shield which he makes ...large and strong,
adorning it with beautiful designs all over (Iliad 225). The shield depicts all of creation with the sun,
moon, and stars in the middle and complex designs of humans and cattle ringing the outside layers. In

Analysis Of The Book David Garland
David Garland begins by asserting: We quickly grow used to the way things are. His description of our
contemporary culture of control, and of our acceptance of it, calls to mind the mythical frog in the
saucepan: dropped into hot water the frog is startled and leaps out; but if the heat is turned up
gradually, it sits there without noticing until it boils to death. In our case our in the book refers to
Britain and the United States most of us have failed to notice a quite rapid turning up of the heat.
Americans, Garland observes, now seem accustomed to living in a country that executes an average of
more than two people per week and has a prison population of more than 2 million. Britons, with
extraordinarily little protest, have adjusted to living with an Orwellian level of closed circuit TV
surveillance and a prison population whose growth rate, if not its actual number, is beginning to rival
that of the US. Such a state of affairs, he notes, only 30 years ago would have seemed shocking, even
to the best informed and most up to date observer. Indeed, he insists, the trajectory of British and
American crime control over the past three decades has been almost exactly the contrary of that which
was anticipated as recently as 1970 .
The Culture of Control describes this trajectory, explains how and why it confounded expectations,
and concludes with a view of what it portends. I shall quibble in a moment with the book s optimism
about where it is headed, but first

Children s Literature Becoming an Equalizer
While we are undeniably a multicultural society, we are not yet a truly pluralistic society where
persons of every ethnic background and race share equal access to opportunities for empowering their
lives and have the right to pursue their own good. (Bundy, 1992) The upperclass were wise to the
importance of reading; which, is the basis for leaving England settling in America. Children s
literature started with teaching to read for the expressed purpose of understanding the word of a higher
power and living accordingly. The importance of literacy becomes more apparent as society falls in to

The moldable mind once filled with practical applications will understand the lessons taught by the
novel. Daniel Defoe, author of the novel, wrote about singular man on an island fighting to survive

literature explored the two sides of the adventure stories. Boys Stories, Adventure Stories, were
influenced by Defoe s story depicting a castaway s survival. They were created for boys because they
showcased heroism in the face of an issue. The protagonists characteristically display more than

Misogynistic and Sexist Undertones in One Flew Over the...
From the moment that the apple touched Eve s lips, women have been seen as an embodiment of all
that is evil. This reflects misogynistic societal beliefs that women are below men. While many of the
prejudices towards women are hidden in modern American society, some misogynistic stereotypes are
still present. In Ken Kesey s One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest, one can see many misogynistic and
sexist undertones. Big Nurse Ratched is in a position of authority over a large group of men and is

the men to regain power, they must regain their sexuality and reveal the nurse s. McMurphy s final
stand against the nurse involves him ripp[ing] her uniform all the way down the front (275) and
revealing breasts that she had concealed. With this metaphorical rape, Kesey is equating the men
regaining power with sexual dominance over women. The rape of the nurse is seen as a heroic act by
McMurphy, which conveys the misogynistic message that men have a right to sexual power over
women. The way that McMurphy performs this rape is effectively silencing the nurse, as he had his
heavy red fingers [in] the white flesh of her throat (275). Using silence in conjunction with a
metaphorical rape gives a further misogynistic tone, as McMurphy is exerting sexual dominance as
well as stopping her from being able to speak out against him, or any man. Because this is McMurphy
s final action, it is seen as his greatest one. Therefore, the man who can break a woman is seen as an
ideal specimen.
Size, both physical and metaphorical, plays a large role in the misogynistic references in the ward. The
Chief makes constant references to people s size. However, size is relative. One cannot be big without
someone else being small. When the nurse is in full control, the Chief sees her as big as a tractor (5).

Mainframes and Personal Computers
Overview
Mainframes and personal computers have evolved over the years but their core functions have stayed
the same. The mainframe is used connect multiple users for large organizations while personal
computers are generally used for a single users. The more drastic changes for mainframes and
personal computers have been speed and size. Mainframes use to be the size of buildings. Now they
are the size of a textbook. Personal computer s origins came from the dumb terminal. The dumb
terminal was used just to access the mainframe. Then, the idea came to off load some of the
processing from the mainframe and place it on your desktop.

The hardware is very similar ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Extra security and stability is needed. Resetting a mainframe should not happen as often as a personal
computer. This is because a mainframe will affect hundreds to thousands of users. The mainframe
supports many users. Multiple processors are needed to handle the extra load that mainframes receive.
Multiple processors are the standard for mainframes while it is only an option for personal computers.
This helps the mainframe s stability because a backup processor can be used in case of a failure. This
is also what makes the operating system more complex then the personal computer. Stability is
expected for the mainframe more than a personal computer. The mainframe is also expected to run 24
hours a day 7 days a week. This is why stability is so important with the mainframe. The mainframe
does not stop working when everyone goes home. The cost of the mainframe encourages the users to
use it as much as possible.
Conclusion
Mainframes and Personal computers were drastically different when they were first introduced. The
mainframe took up buildings and the personal computer was only an interface to a mainframe. Today,
their similarities are growing. Eventually we will not be able to tell the difference. Has cost comes
down for mainframes they to will become personal computers or an add on to a personal computer for

Lytic Granule Convergence Essay
Lytic granule convergence to the MTOC following activation does not guarantee cytotoxicity in NK
cells (Mentlik et al., 2010). Thus, convergence could represent a regulatory step to centrally localize
the lytic granules to ensure that the NK cells do not undergo degranulation until granules are delivered
by the MTOC to the correct synapse where their contents can be secreted without causing collateral
damage. Thus, lytic granule convergence is a mechanism to protect healthy surrounding cells in a
complex tissue from being destroyed by the NK cell while making sure that only the diseased cell is
targeted at the synapse. Lytic granule convergence still occurs even if microtubules are stabilized or F
actin reorganization is inhibited. This shows that convergence can occur before the MTOC is
reoriented to the synapse. The movement of lytic granules along microtubules has been shown to be
dynein dependent, thus demonstrating dynein as a minus ended microtubule motor for lytic granules,
suggesting that dynein directly moves the granules along microtubules toward the MTOC (Mentlik et
al., 2010). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

granules that are pre formed in NK cells. The dynein mediated lytic granule transport along

Essay on History of Slavery in the Caribbean
History of Slavery in the Caribbean
The institution of slavery has played a major role in the history, and the shaping of the Caribbean.
Therefore, in order to truly understand the Caribbean one must completely understand slavery itself.
Slavery can be defined as belonging to a person, or being treated like a piece of property, and not
having any individual freedom This was essentially the life many Africans lived for many centuries in
the Caribbean . The master s had total freedom and control over his or her slaves. As a result of this
behavior they were able to run successful sugar plantations that resembled modern day factories. Until
the end of the 18th century many sugar estates used the gang system. The owner treated hundreds ...

Milling had to be done within 24 hours of the cane being cut, otherwise it would spoil. At first there
was just a main mill in the center of the country, but by the 1800 s many planters owned there own
individual mills.
Laws regarding the well being of the slave were as follows; it was strictly up to the discretion of the
master the amount of control he chose to exercise over his slaves. For the most part, it seems as if laws
were the worst on islands where slaves outnumbered the masters, and less severe on the islands
without sugar plantations.
With so little control over there own lives it was truly difficult for slaves to achieve anything. This
especially included freedom. The French Code Noir and the Spanish laws did not make it easy for a
slave to gain freedom, but it was certainly easier for one to become free on these islands than those
owned by the British. The British made it almost impossible for the slaves to gain freedom. In the
Spanish and the French colonies, slaves were given a few legal privileges. The courts on these islands
permitted slaves to own personal property, make contracts, and buy their freedom with their meager
savings. These laws did not exist in the British colonies.
Without the labor of the slaves on the sugar plantations, the sugarcane estates could not have
succeeded the way they did. The slave in turn, became the back bone of the sugar plantation in the
Caribbean. During the rainy season the

Alternative Fuels America needs to free itself from oil dependency. Every day billions of dollars are
spent on resourcing oil from other countries. The United States consumes around 20 million barrels of
oil every day. In the 1970 s when the energy crisis happened, oil prices skyrocketed and the supply of
oil ceased, efforts shifted to find alternative sources of power. Although many people believe
alternative fuels are being researched and developed for environmental reasons such as reducing our
carbon emissions, they are actually becoming integrated into our lives from an economic standpoint.

While electric vehicles are an excellent alternative source, they do have some drawbacks. Electric
vehicles have long charge times and the infrastructure isn t fully developed all over the world. It s easy
to find gas stations along the road, but how often are electric vehicle charging stations found? The
placement of the structures is crucial because the chargers need to be in a good location. Authors of
Retailing Management Michael Levy and Barton Weitz explain that when a firm decides to open a
new station, they must make a substantial investment; either buy and develop the real estate or commit
to a long term lease typically ranging from 5 to 20 years. When companies set up a charging station its
more than just a place to refuel, it s an investment logically thought out as to where it should be
placed. Electric vehicles are an amazing advancement but some people are turned away who are used
to quick gas fill ups. Hydrogen Fuel cell is another solution to finding alternative fuel vehicles. This
technology has zero emissions, a driving range of 300 miles, and can be refueled and moving again in
minutes. Although this technology is more recent, the military has taken a liking to hydrogen powered
cars. Initially, electric vehicles were appealing to military because of how quiet they are, but setting up
charging locations is extremely difficult and the military doesn t have time to wait for their electric
vehicles to charge while in combat. The hydrogen vehicle was

Strategic and Financial Planning
Plans are worthless, but planning is everything (Eisenhower, 1957). Businesses that fail to plan are
very likely to fail and at best will not recognize the full spectrum of profit avenues available to them.
Strategic planning helps firms to define how they will make money in the future. Financial planning
goes further into depth using the strategic plan as a baseline and helps firms determine their short term
and long term budgets as well as the possible effectiveness of their plans. The innovative nature of
business requires firms to plan out new initiatives to determine costs they will incur, possible profits
from sales, and what kind of risk they will encounter.

them more competitive with the Amazon Kindle Fire. The Nook Color now costs $139, the 8GB Nook

to running for creating health benefits.

Texas And SNAP
The State of Texas and SNAP Benefits The state of Texas, which is the largest state in the continental
US, is the second largest by population. This makes by default means that Texas is an important
economic center. However, this also means that Texas serves as one of the states with highest overall
economic need (Poverty USA). Texas is ranked as number 39 in overall poverty by the states, and
currently has over 12% of its population on SNAP benefits which is double that from 2000, despite the
leaps and bounds made economically in the country and the state of Texas specifically (Texas Health
and Human Services Commision) (Poverty USA). These benefits are used by the population to
appropriate food for households, and are an integral part of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It has also caused some of the more conservative legislators, representatives, leaders, activists, and
citizens to call for its abandonment as a program by both the state of Texas and the Federal
Government. Nonetheless, the state legislature of Texas continues to appropriate funding for the
program, but mostly because a great deal of funding in the state would be at risk if they failed to
include SNAP. The federal government currently provides 56.3% of the funding allocated to the
Health and Human Services Commission and its various subdivisions, which comes to $47.2 billion
(Texas State Legislature). This money would be taken away if the state of Texas failed to have a SNAP
program that met certain federal standards of success. As a result, this money goes towards several
programs including Medicaid, which a whopping 81% of these federal funds are used for, but $1.96
billion of this money is applied specifically to the state SNAP program. I find it positive that the
government of Texas has been constantly allowing the SNAP program to be implemented (Texas State
Legislature). However, I do think it unfair for the Federal Government to strong arm them into
instituting the program by putting on the line,

How Does The Change Affect The Environment Of The Drivers...
Firstly, it is most important to be able to express the change in a clear simple statement that can
be expressed within a minute (60 seconds) Doing this will allow staff to have a core understanding of
what is changing. It is important for this statement to be specific straight to the point and express with
language free of jargon.
Bridges offers the following guidance the statement must:
Clearly express the change leader #39;s understanding and intention

Swot Analysis Of Morgan Chase Co
JP Morgan Chase Co. is currently United States biggest bank, and the 6th biggest bank internationally
with over 2.4 trillion dollars in assets. This financial juggernaut was formed in 2000, when Chase
Manhattan Corporation and JP Morgan Co merged. Currently, Chase is well known for their credit
card line in America, and is responsible for consumer banking, while JP Morgan is well known
internationally, and responsible for investment banking. Although JPMC is one of the world s biggest
banks, senior management at JPMC has continuously referred to the company as a technology
company. Technology plays an astronomically more important role in banking because of convenience
and security. JPMC currently has over 40,000 technologists, of which over 18,000 are software
developers (Crowe). In comparison, Google, arguably the most renowned tech company in the world,
has around 60,000 employees. With such an enormous staff of technologists and coders, JPMC, like
any big tech corporation, must be concerned with employee production efficiency. Over my past
summer as an intern, I ve noticed that there is one key area that JPMC could improve on keyboards.
Every technologist at JPMC has their own area for their computer setup, and unsurprisingly, most
technologists spend a majority of their time in front of their computer doing one task typing. The
keyboards provided by JPMC were basic plastic membrane keyboards that did not support any added
functionality. Even as an intern, I

Sherman Alexie On The Greek
On the Amtrak from Boston to New York City by Sherman Alexie tells a story of a Native American
man who is on a train listening to this white woman talking about his culture. This frustrates the man
because he feels that the white woman country (America) took away his ancestors land. Alexie s poem
addresses the problem he has with American history and the problem he has with ignorant people. He
doesn t feel like his people were treated fairly throughout history, even though they arrived on the land
first. Sherman Alexie educates us about Native Americans and how they have been mistreated in
American history. Sherman Alexie s poem, On the Amtrak from Boston to New York City can be read
through a historical lens. First, let s start with the author Sherman Alexie; a fellow Native American,
from the Coeur d Alene tribe, who was born in Spokane, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main character had two reactions: external and internal. First, the external reaction; the main
character reaction towards the lady looked like he didn t care for what the white woman had to say.
The character seemed standoffish every time the lady would bring up an ignorant comment towards
Native American people. In On the Amtrak from Boston to New York City Sherman Alexie explains in
a plain tone: All I really did was eat my tasteless sandwich, drink my Diet Pepsi and nod my head
whenever the woman pointed out another little piece of her country s history.(61) Now, this doesn t
seem like someone that s all in to talk; the main character is sick and tired of this lady comments. You
can tell by his expressions with nodding to everything; it seems like the main character is giving a clue
to the lady to leave him alone. And maybe this is the feeling of some Native American people when
someone brings up an ignorant comment about their history. They don t want to be bothered by the
negativity others are

The Roots Of Tea From Japan

The roots of tea settled in Japan during 1191, marking the beginnings of Japanese tea ceremonies and
architecture. The architecture of teahouses in Japan bloomed slowly, with the birth of tea masters and
disciples. The architects of these spaces were credited with the art of tea before the analysis and
creations of rooms to share this art. Many of these tea rooms had the same tea master, architect, and
builder. As such, this was the case with the Tai an designed by the legendary tea master Sen no Rikyu

After the second nationalisation, and the period of western influence, they finally hit the third and
final nationalisation that lead to the modern and contemporary. (Harada 1954, p. 9 25)
In the era in of Sen no Rikyu, the affluent tea master to Nobunaga and Hideyoshi, teahouse
architecture focused on spirituality, a connection with nature, your inner self, your host and the
medicinal qualities of tea. In particular, Rikyu focused on simplicity, where spiritual ceremonies does
not have to go beyond the host and the guest. Rikyu, was the first to design the two mat tea room; the
Tai an, an example of the smallest type of tearoom and the epitome of a teahouse designed in the same
concept as the tea ceremony, the wabi cha, an emphasis on simplicity (Kirby 1962, p. 197)
In comparison, Hosokawa Tadaoki s Shoko ken was designed specifically in the daime sukiya
tradition of tea house architecture from the Momoyama period (1568 1600), distinctive for its use of
shorter mats and central post structure to differentiate the spatial hierarchy of the space between the
host and guest. (Walker 2002, p.5) Nevertheless, as time passes architectural styles will always
become altered, however the traditional principals of tea ceremony and its architecture never really
faltered. For

Attrition In Nurse Education Essay
The transfer of Schools of Nursing into the HE sector has been relatively recent in comparison to other
healthcare programmes. This has presented the profession with a dilemma of how to attract the
candidate who meets the increased academic requirements of university study as well as possessing
the other qualities that are expected in the individual who seeks to accelerate their career development
in one of the healthcare professions. In order to meet high recruitment target numbers, while adhering
to socially inclusive policies, wider entrance criterion have been utilised in many HEIs, allowing
individuals with fewer formal qualifications to enter advanced study providing they can evidence of;

Internationally, attrition rates appear to be on the increase. The UK figures of around 15% may
compare favourably with countries such as Italy (65%) and the USA (37%) (International Audit office,
2007), yet, in the UK, concern remains regarding the number of students who fail to reach graduation.
The personal consequences of attrition for the individual and the professional and financial
consequences for the institution cannot be overstated. Each institution will have its own figures which,
in some cases, will be significantly higher than the average. The expressed level of concern in the UK
may also be related to the apparent lack of consensus over definitive figures. The Nursing Standard
commissioned a survey in 2006 on student nurse attrition which estimates that the UK average
attrition rate is closer to 25% which translates to a cost of £57m for the UK taxpayer (Buchan and
Seccombe, 2006). Whilst there is no direct cost to the UK taxpayers involved in the recruitment of
international nursing students as they are self funding, the attrition rates are close to the UK average
for this marginal group of students

Examples Of Marfan Syndrome
In life, every living organism has billions of cells, that contain genetic material which makes the
organism what we are. In every cell, there is a nucleus that controls the DNA in one s body, creating
the person they are; from hair color, sex, eye color, skin tone, etc.. In many cases the DNA and the
nucleus are mutation and error free creating a normal human being with no genetic disorders. On the
contrary, in other case there are mutations and errors in the DNA and nucleus creating many genetic
disorders; for example marfan syndrome. Marfan syndrome is a hereditary disorder, from a mutation,
resulting in uncommon long and thin body parts, and also optical and cardiovascular defects. Marfan

  • 2. Electronic Communications Privacy Act ( Ecpa ) Abstract The Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA) was a pretty progressive law at the time it was enacted. It enhanced the privacy protection that was originally delineated in the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 by also adding communication protection for pagers, email, cell phones, service providers, and computer transmissions. The ECPA addressed the legal privacy issues that were surfacing with the rising use of networks, computers and other new innovations in electronic communications. The first large computers had been built as early as the 1950s, with the first development of a mass market microcomputer starting in 1977. The development of ARPANET in the late 1960s and early 1970s would eventually lead to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The ECPA safeguards electronic, oral, and wire communications during creation, in transit, in storage and relates to electronic mail, phone conversations, and data that is stored electronically. The intended purpose of the legislation is to reassure customers that their private information will remain secure from public exposure. The ECPA includes three main provisions for communications privacy titled the Wiretap Act, Stored Communications Act, and Pen Register Act. Wiretap Act The Wiretap Act has provisions that safeguard an individual s telephonic and computer based voice communications from being captured, used or released by another individual. This Act prohibits the listen in on and electronic bugging, the physical custody of bugging or tapping equipment, as well as the use or disclosure of information unlawfully obtained from the use of said equipment. (Unknown, 2013). The Act also provides exceptions for service providers, in specific instances, and for law enforcement to perform electronic eavesdropping, under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. It affords processes for government entities to acquire judicial consent for obtaining such communications, and controls the usage and release of this information acquired from legal eavesdropping. • 3. A Consumer Love Affair Advertisers have increasingly pushed the limits of cultural acceptance in a competition to arouse the consumers attention. In the new H M commercial that aired for Super Bowl XLVIII, David Beckham performs James Bond type maneuvers while wearing only his underwear. Clearly, this commercial content attempts to appeal to visual, emotional, and primal desires. Sex and the need to reproduce are intense desires that many advertisements use as a delivery platform for product sales. Actors and advertising models are depicted as objects of worship and often bear an unrealistic aesthetic perfection, only achieved by spray brushing and graphic alterations. Advertising spotlights the actor as the consumable product and equates happiness with purchases. Traditional values are being replaced with morally questionable behavior. The commercial for H M showcases unrealistic body images to promote products, through appeals to human sexual desire, thereby degrading the value of intimacy. H M wants consumers to feel pleasure when purchasing from them. The men will feel strong and attractive. The female consumers will associate H M clothing with an attractive man. This is the sensation that John F. Schumaker points out in The Happiness Conspiracy: What Does It Mean to Be Happy in a Modern Consumer Society, when he casts a critical eye on popular culture s calibration of happiness and contends it mirrors the supreme value that consumer culture attaches to the romancing of ... • 4. Hamlet And Ophelia Character Analysis In the play Hamlet, by William Shakespeare, the complexity of Hamlet s relationship with Ophelia is a inconclusive subplot to the overarching idea of the play. After the tragic murder of Hamlet s father, Hamlet is overcome with his desire for revenge, which is evident throughout his interactions with characters. A character most affected is Ophelia, who is in conflict over their relationship, one that eventually leads to her tragic downfall. Hamlet and Ophelia s relationship was at one point a intimate and loving relationship; however, Hamlet s revenge schemes suppresses and overshadows those feelings of love, eventually leading to the tragic deaths of the two lovers. Hamlet and Ophelia had strong feelings of love for each other, which is displayed throughout their interactions with one another. After Ophelia s death, Hamlet displays his true feelings for Ophelia by saying I loved Ophelia. Forty thousand brothers/Could not with all their quantity of love/Make up my sum. What wilt thou do for her? (5.1.). Hamlet s words in the quote display an enduring, everlasting love, suggesting that their relationship was meaningful and real. Hamlet would have done anything for Ophelia and Ophelia likewise, emphasizing a relationship with strong feelings of love and affection. Hamlet and Ophelia had a serious and committed relationship as Ophelia said You promised me to wed. /He answers: So would I a done, by yonder sun (4.5.). One would never engage in an activity in which you have no skill. To achieve this skill you must engage in this activity frequently and learn from one s errors. The only thing that will detain you from achieving this is doubt and fear. Vincent Van Gogh had perseverance and did not cease his love for painting. Vincent could be in a moment of excitement and then in a moment of depression and sadness. There were multiple moments that impacted Vincent s life. He traveled to many places to work and never saw hope in life until he met and fell in love with Ursula ( who was his landlady s daughter). When Vincent gained enough courage, he avowed his love for her and also asked her to marry him. She laughed claiming she was already engaged and Vincent, after hearing this, became heartbroken and returned to his depressing state with the belief that there is no hope in life. Furthermore, Vincent was mentally challenged, he became fixated and close to God and the bible. It behooved him to become a pastor like his father, and so he did. He wanted to send God s message to the crowd in sermons but became too obsessed. Vincent had a fervent sense of vocation but was handicapped by his instability, his excessive zeal and exaggeration he displayed in everything he took up. • 7. Reflection Of A Reflection On Teaching Reflection for Co Teaching This semester was my first time working with 3rd graders at an IB school. This type of school is structured much differently than all the other elementary schools in Jefferson County. The curriculum at this school is a concept driven curriculum that helps students construct meaning through improved critical thinking skills. This means that the lessons taught are inquiry based. Inquiry based instruction is centered on posing questions and establishing facts through exploration rather than simply presenting the facts to the students. With that being said, my cooperating teacher (CT) planned a very interactive Science lesson to get his students engaged in learning and doing Science. My CT told me that he did not have a specific book to teach with, yet he had essential questions and standards that needed to be met in Science. The lesson was centered on the 3rd grade Colorado academic standard 2, concept 2, which pertained to the concept of the duration and timing of life cycle events in different organisms. The essential question of how humans can have a negative or positive impact on the life cycle of animals and insects was also a guiding factor in the lesson. My CT and one of his co workers that taught 3rd grade came up with this lesson with the help of the Butterfly Pavilion, who provided specimens, exploration, and butterfly holder nets for the classroom. • 8. Sales Manager Memo The reason I am writing a memorandum today is to discuss the much needed new position of a Tri State Promotional Manager. The explanation for this new position will be outlined specifically and clearly to highlight how this position will help grow the new product line beyond original calculations of sales. In recent months our new sporting line Witlow Sporting Gear has increased in sales in a very steady and reasonable expected growth. As the regional Assistant Sales Manager he has proven to be an asset that we can t lose, his promotion would benefit the company greatly. Therefore, I would suggest his promotion to the new position of Tri State Promotional Manager. This promotion would initially be a five year contract, with an option to renew after the five years is up. This will not put the company into a financial debt. Mr. Mimms has chosen to take a very modest salary increase to step into this new role. After the initial five years has expired and if Thomas Sporting God, Inc. would like to retain Mr. Mimms for a longer period of time, then we will renegotiate his salary based on the new sales and profit gains that the company has experienced under his new title. In short, this is a win win situation for all involved. Please take this Memorandum into extreme ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Folashade Oloniyo Abstract In this essay, the characteristics of a counsellor and a friend will be expanded upon in order to gain a greater knowledge for deciphering the two. We all have been in situations where we hit a brick wall in our life and are unsure of the next step or the next move to make. We have close friends to whom we can turn and reach out to, but in some situations, are they really our best option for help? I can recall feeling slightly judgmental; I thought to myself that my client/friend was making completely unhealthy and unwise decisions. Her actions were so silly and desperate and completely opposite to how I would have acted. There are many forms of sacrifice that provide a different feeling each time someone sacrifices in a different way. Although one must know the proper time to sacrifice something without expecting to be rewarded. The truck is a blue 1974 Chevy C10, and the car is a red 1998 Chevy Cavalier. In my opinion my car is safer, but the truck is cooler. I will be contrasting the body styles, the safety features, and the technical differences. I will also be comparing the basic features. First of all, the body styles are completely different. Well, the truck has a blue body with a body on frame type of construction. It also has a two piece body, the cab and the bed. The car has a small, red, stream line body designed for aerodynamics. It has a uni body design, meaning the body and the frame is one thing. body on frame means that the body sits on the frame and is removable. Secondly, the safety features on the car are vastly superior to the ones on the truck. The car has breaking points all over its body, so that in a wreck it will be damaged worse to soften the impact. The truck just has a rigid steel body designed to stay intact, while that s better for repairs, it s not better for injuries. My car also has airbags, anti lock brakes, and a three point seat belt. The definition of biotechnology, according to the fourth addition biology book from BJU press, states that Biotechnology is the use of technology to enhance living organisms and processes. Their are many aspects of biotechnoogy including cloning, genetic engineering, stem cell technology, gene therapy and genetically modified plants and food. I will be splitting this paper off into sections by these specific aspects in order to learn more about genetics and biotechnology and its effect on the world around us. So let s dive in. Section 1. Cloning There are three common types of clones:natural clones, artificial clones and last but not least human clones. Natural cloning occurs when animals without man s intervention create a native, unaffected genetic copy of themselves as their young. This occurs by asexually reproduction, a process in which certain animals don t need two parents in order to create a young, but can make sperm themselves. Organisms that are multicellular can reproduce by processes such as: fragmentation, budding or produce spores from asexual reproduction from natural clones. Natural clones make an exact genetic copy of themselves except in the fetus stage. The organisms that can make a natural clone are some jellyfish, some insects and some worms. Unlike most animals that are more common to us such as fish, birds and mammals reproduce sexually making them inapplicable for natural cloning. Unlike the animal kingdom, plants can easily make clones and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Alcee notices her worrying and he attempts to comfort her. As Chopin shows us how the second storm starts to build up: Calixta put her hands to her eyes, and with a cry, staggered backward. Alcee s arm encircled her, and for an instant he drew he close and spasmodically to him (196). Calixta doesn t realize what was going on because she was still concerned for Bobinot and Bibi. The lust Alcee had for Calixta conquered him. The storm outside was abrupt and intense. Alcee and Calixta attention was diverted from this storm. • 17. Hybrid Vehicle Disadvantages The pros and cons of Hybrid/Alternative Fueled Vehicles: There are many factors to consider when purchasing a Hybrid or Alternative Fueled Vehicle. Most times when searching for a vehicle, consumers tend to search for amenities to help cut cost. When considering alternative fueled vehicles, consumers have to keep in mind that there are several types of hybrid vehicles with different operating abilities to choose from to satisfy the needs of the consumers. With hybrids, there are three types which are hybrid electric vehicles, plug in hybrid electric vehicles and all electric vehicles. Since they all operate differently, it is important to be informed to ensure the consumer is happy and satisfied with their investment. Hybrid Electric Vehicles consist of gasoline engines, electric motors and use advanced technology to operate. One of the technologies used is a regenerative braking, which recaptures energy that is lost during coasting or braking. The use of the forward wheels is what turns the motor which generates electricity and assist to slow the vehicle. The selfish desire for power overtakes all morals and values, which is shown prominently in the classic tragedy, King Lear. The characters of Lear and Gloucester discover the effect of injustice through betrayal and the silence of their gods. Their journeys of self discovery are shown through Shakespeare s use of symbolism, literary devices and parallelism. Though one could argue that the banishment and dismissal of those close to them creates an initial catalyst for chaos throughout the kingdom, the fate of these characters calls the Elizabethan audience to question whether actions or beliefs decide ones destiny. This concept is unable to explain human genome variation and evolution, thus nullifying the flawed concept with scientific evidence. Human variation occurs because of evolution, a biological process that all organisms involuntary undergo so that they can adapt to their environment to maximize their chances of survival. In contrast, race explains human variation as physical differences that determine power of one group over another. They think that Blacks are one race that stayed in Africa, Asians are another race that migrated to Asia, and Whites are another race because they moved to Europe. But these groups only represent the extreme physical differences in humans. And these groups only represent a small percentage of the world s people, which is not useful. As human history progressed and humans moved out of Africa, they were always differentiating along the way. Race cannot explain the incredible diversity of mankind; it is not possible to organize this huge diversity of 7 billion people into so few categories. Shared traits are not random. For example, the dark skin of Somalian and Ghanaian people indicates that they evolved under heavy sun rays. But that s all it shows; they are not more closely related (using genetic evidence) than any other group in the world. Sharon Begley argues that labeling Somalians and Ghanaians as Blacks does not show anything about their evolutionary history and even falsely assumes that they are more closely related than someone of another race (Begley 67). Carnegie used the essay to argue that individual capitalists were duty bound to play a broader cultural and social role and thus improve the world, though there were those that disagreed with him, writing their own share of essays in response and creating a lively debate (History Matters 1). Carnegie, unlike his peers, believed that it was the responsibility of the newly formed upper class, consisting of those who had made their own fortunes, to engage in acts of philanthropy. While these impactful historical characters are indeed intriguing, as there are countless books, articles, documentaries, and other literary pieces telling their respective stories, it is also important to learn and become further educated on other, less known historical figures. We all are pieces that eventually fit into our world s grand historical puzzle. Thus, convergence could represent a regulatory step to centrally localize the lytic granules to ensure that the NK cells do not undergo degranulation until granules are delivered by the MTOC to the correct synapse where their contents can be secreted without causing collateral damage. Thus, lytic granule convergence is a mechanism to protect healthy surrounding cells in a complex tissue from being destroyed by the NK cell while making sure that only the diseased cell is targeted at the synapse. Lytic granule convergence still occurs even if microtubules are stabilized or F actin reorganization is inhibited. This shows that convergence can occur before the MTOC is reoriented to the synapse. The movement of lytic granules along microtubules has been shown to be dynein dependent, thus demonstrating dynein as a minus ended microtubule motor for lytic granules, suggesting that dynein directly moves the granules along microtubules toward the MTOC (Mentlik et al., 2010). ... Laws regarding the well being of the slave were as follows; it was strictly up to the discretion of the master the amount of control he chose to exercise over his slaves. For the most part, it seems as if laws were the worst on islands where slaves outnumbered the masters, and less severe on the islands without sugar plantations. With so little control over there own lives it was truly difficult for slaves to achieve anything. This especially included freedom. The French Code Noir and the Spanish laws did not make it easy for a slave to gain freedom, but it was certainly easier for one to become free on these islands than those owned by the British. The British made it almost impossible for the slaves to gain freedom. In the Spanish and the French colonies, slaves were given a few legal privileges. The courts on these islands permitted slaves to own personal property, make contracts, and buy their freedom with their meager savings. These laws did not exist in the British colonies. • 38. Essay On Alternative Fuel Alternative Fuels America needs to free itself from oil dependency. Every day billions of dollars are spent on resourcing oil from other countries. The United States consumes around 20 million barrels of oil every day. In the 1970 s when the energy crisis happened, oil prices skyrocketed and the supply of oil ceased, efforts shifted to find alternative sources of power. Although many people believe alternative fuels are being researched and developed for environmental reasons such as reducing our carbon emissions, they are actually becoming integrated into our lives from an economic standpoint. While electric vehicles are an excellent alternative source, they do have some drawbacks. Electric vehicles have long charge times and the infrastructure isn t fully developed all over the world. It s easy to find gas stations along the road, but how often are electric vehicle charging stations found? The placement of the structures is crucial because the chargers need to be in a good location. Authors of Retailing Management Michael Levy and Barton Weitz explain that when a firm decides to open a new station, they must make a substantial investment; either buy and develop the real estate or commit to a long term lease typically ranging from 5 to 20 years. When companies set up a charging station its more than just a place to refuel, it s an investment logically thought out as to where it should be placed. Electric vehicles are an amazing advancement but some people are turned away who are used to quick gas fill ups. Hydrogen Fuel cell is another solution to finding alternative fuel vehicles. This technology has zero emissions, a driving range of 300 miles, and can be refueled and moving again in minutes. Although this technology is more recent, the military has taken a liking to hydrogen powered cars. Initially, electric vehicles were appealing to military because of how quiet they are, but setting up charging locations is extremely difficult and the military doesn t have time to wait for their electric vehicles to charge while in combat. The hydrogen vehicle was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The federal government currently provides 56.3% of the funding allocated to the Health and Human Services Commission and its various subdivisions, which comes to $47.2 billion (Texas State Legislature).
