Pros And Cons Of Floodplains
A floodplain or flood plain is an area of land adjacent to a stream or river that stretches from the
banks of its channel to the base of the enclosing valley walls and experiences flooding during
periods of high discharge. Or in simple words we can say an area of low lying ground adjacent to a
river, formed mainly of riversediments and subject to flooding.
Flood plains are made by a meander eroding sideways as they travel downstream. When a river
breaks its banks and floods, it leaves behind layers of alluvium (silt). These gradually build up to
create the floor of the flood plain. Floodplains can support particularly rich ecosystems, both in
quantity and diversity.
Floodplains are where land and water meet. The two environments merge ... Show more content on

This reduces a river s discharge and so makes it less likely to flood. Afforestation also prevents
mass wasting which reduces the amount of soil entering the river and keeps the river s capacity
high. When combined with floodplain zoning, afforestation can be very effective at reducing the
risk of flooding. It creates new habitats for animals and improving water quality by filtering
pollutants out of rainwater. The issue with afforestation is that it requires quite a lot of space to be
effective and could prove unpopular among famers on the floodplain as they won t be too happy
with trees sapping nutrients from the soil. This issue can be combated somewhat by creating
riparian buffers, thin vegetated strips of land that run adjacent to a river s channel.
Wetland Restoration involves creating conditions that are favorable for the development of
wetlands (marshes or swamps). Wetlands are able to store large volumes of water which helps to
reduce the discharge in a river. Wetlands don t reduce flooding where they are located but rather
downstream of the river. They have the added benefit of creating new habitats for animals and
greatly increasing biodiversity. They reduce the area of land available for farming though which
makes them unpopular among

2.3 Explain the importance of natural outdoor environments for young children s physical activity
and movement skills.
Natural outdoor environment has positive effects on children s social development and motor skills
development.Outdoor play is less structured so it gives children more opportunity to discover, learn
about different textures, sounds and children also gain important physical skills.Children feel more
free and they use their whole bodies to explore.Natural environments stimulate children s
imagination and engage their sense of curiosity.
Children learn social skills by interacting with other children or even with natural materials found in
the environment.Natural outdoor environment help children to question, to cooperate and solve
problems.

Intro Aria Grande
The piece of music I decided to choose is Intro by Ariana Grande. Since I have such a strong love
for music there are a lot of song that I love and it s hard to choose one that I love the most.
However, if I was ever asked what is my favorite song I would probably say that song by Ariane
Grande is. She is a very talented artist and I love so many of her songs but that one is my favorite.
The only downside about the songis that it s only a minute and 20 seconds long because it s just
an intro to the album. Then again, I often think that s why it s such a great song, because it leaves
the mind wondering. The overall genre of this song is pop and R B which probably has something
to do with why I love the song so much because those are my two favorite genres. The... Show more

The tempo of the song is very consistent, it never speeds up nor slows down. The rhythm of this
song can be a bit hard to find since it s so slow but the rhythm follows the 1, 2, 3 pace. The texture
of the song changes, it starts off as homophonic when she accompanied by the backup singing the
accompanied by the instruments. Then it turns into monophonic with the solo of the
instruments. This song has two major functions in my life which is aesthetic enjoyment and
emotional expression. In my opinion, this song s beauty is the epitome of perfection, I have no
problem saying that this song is one of the, if not the most beautiful song I have ever heard. I
would say it functions say emotional expression because I feel as though with the melody alone
it speaks to me. Every single time I hear this song I feel that happy and peaceful feeling you feel
when you re in love. Even if not being in love this can make you excited for it. Though the song
is very slow, the mood of it is happy. You can tell from the lyrics that she is in love and happy to be
in love. You can also get hope from the lyrics, she is hopefully that they can go together and be

Chesapeake Life History
Between 1813 and 1962, steamboats ruled the Chesapeake Bay, reflected in a fascinating and
important era, in which trade and travel were made more convenient with steamers that linked parts
of Maryland and Virginia, with distant and isolated rural communities along the Eastern Shore, in
particular, including Piankatank River and Occohannock Creek in Virginia, Hudson Creek off the
Little Choptank River in Maryland, Bushwood, and Rock Point It made possible access to certain
goods and services typically unavailable east of the Bay, along with opportunities for leisure and
entertainment.
There were various types of steamboats on the Chesapeake Bay, all serving a specific function. The
packet steamboats were the most common, were medium sized and fast, and transported
passengers, freight and domestic mail. The rural areas and the city were made accessible with a
large fleet of smaller vessels steam ferries, while excursion steamers or showboats were more
elaborate, colorful and beautifully decorated made drop offs at popular resorts on the Bay,
including Tolchester and Betterton in Kent County.

Morton s Toe Research Paper
Take off your shoes. Look down at your feet. Is your second toe longer than your big toe? If so,
you have Morton s toe. Morton s toe is a skeletal disorder, in which the first metatarsal is shorter
than the second metatarsal. Metatarsals are the bones that attach to the toes or known as
phalanges. Individuals often mistake Morton s toe of the second toe being longer than the first,
but it is actually the second metatarsal that is longer than the first metatarsal; therefore, the
second toe seems longer than the big toe. Morton s toe was discovered and named by Dr. Dudley
J. Morton who was a physician, orthopedic surgeon, researcher, and author in the 1920 s ( Fehrs).
It could also be referred to as Morton s Foot Syndrome and Greek Foot. ... Show more content on

It is congenital meaning it is present at birth. Also, Morton s toe may be caused when the first
metatarsal bone is abnormally short compared to the second metatarsal bone and when the first
metatarsal bone has more motion, which means it is unstable. This instability is known as
Hypermobility of the First Metatarsal Bone (Schuler). Additionally, Morton s toe can be simply
recognized without an X ray. Some symptoms are more noticeable than others. For instance, if
one looks at his feet and notices that his second toe is longer than the first, he has Morton s toe.
If the space between your first and second toe appears to be deeper, not wider, but deeper than
the space between your second and third toes, you have Morton s Toe ( Morton s Toe ). An
individual can also detect Morton s toe by holding down his toes and finding bumps where the
metatarsal bones end. He will mark the location of the bumps and compare the lines. The first
metatarsal bone is shortened if the line for the second toe is closer to the leg than the line for the
big toe ( Morton s Toe: Symptoms and Treatments ). Excess skin between the toes is another
possible sign for Morton s toe. More symptoms of Morton s toe include pain in areas of the foot to
the neck, callus formation, and musculoskeletal

Effects Of Removing Extrinsic Branding Cues On Taste...
The Effect of Removing Extrinsic Branding Cues on Taste Perception
Abstract
Consumer taste preferences have been found to be highly influenced by extrinsic cues such as the
branding of a product. This study aims to examine the effect of removing extrinsic branding cues
on taste perception. Using a between subject design, participants (n=20) participated in a blind
experiment, they either tasted Walkers crisp or Tesco value crisps, Coca Cola, or Sainsbury value
cola. Participants evaluated the taste on a rating scale, where 1 indicated least satisfying and 10
most satisfying. There were no significant difference between the Walkers crisps and Tesco value
crisps, t (18) = 616, p=0.546). Also no difference was found between the two bands of cola, Mann
Whitney U = 37.5, p=0.353. These findings suggest extrinsic branding cues may have a relatively
strong influence over our taste.
Introduction
Over the years, researchers have taken an interest into consumer behaviour and their preference to
purchase manufacture branded products rather than store brand, although the products contain the
same content. A brand is defined as a name, sign, symbol or a design used to identify the goods
or services of a vendor (Kotler Keller, 2006). Branding has been identified to be a very important
non sensory factor in the decision of purchasing products (Varela et al, 2010). One of the most
studied phenomena related to branding has shown that exposure to a certain stimuli, results in an

done using the intellectual standards and the elements of reasoning to provide an alternate outcome

A Long Way Gone By Ishmael Beah
Ishmael Beah s memoir, A long Way Gone, is very descriptive and has a very effective way of
painting a picture in the reader s mind of what he went through as a boy soldier. Throughout the
memoir, Beah used quite a few statements that impacted me emotionally, on a personal level.
His vivid detail, word choice and how personal, yet professional he kept his writing led me to
understand how exactly the war affected him, and everyone else who lived, and lives, in Sierra
Leone. The first quote that stood out to me was when Beah was hiding with Kaloko outside of a
deserted village: I became frustrated with living in fear. I felt as if I was always waiting for
death to come to me, so I decided to go somewhere where there was at least some peace. (46) I
find his word choice in this section interesting, due to the fact that he used frustrated instead of
angry or upset. This could mean that he was becoming more irritable or short, but not to an
extent of anger where is is clear or violent. Also, this frustration would seem like it would be
commonplace in this time, since everyone in Sierra Leone is in danger since the rebels were
ruthlessly killing people and burning villages to the ground. This is part of the rising action in the
story, and helped to build up the idea that his patience with the ongoing war and its violence was
growing thin. Another thing that I noticed in this section of the book is that he said he felt like he
was waiting for death to come to him in a way,

Pygmies In The Middle Ages
The philosophers and theologians of the Middle Ages were aware of the limits of their Western
European geography. Possessed with the knowledge of other countries and empires, but unable to
actually travel there, these thinkers were tormented by their lack of information. Relying on
stories told by merchants and sailors, local tales and legends, as well as varied and inaccurate
ancient histories, they tried to cobble together maps, travelogues, and books detailing as much of
the world as they knew, or believed existed. From these sometimes accurate and often fanciful
accounts of mythical beasts and cities, one can see the development of many elements of modern
day thought on race and racial origin. Reports of giants, of pygmies, of people... Show more content

There are many important thinkers, such as St. Augustine, who emerged during and after the fall of
the Roman Empire and the Dark Ages that ensued, from roughly 476 1000, and their contributions
will be addressed. However, it is with the advent of the High Middle Ages that books, philosophy,
theology, and maps blossomed along with expanded ambitions of capturing all of the knowledge
possible at the time. The paper will first explain the foundations of medieval race thought and cover
some of the important philosophers, before moving on to discuss how these ideas were represented
throughout the broader culture of the times. The second half of the essay will focus on several of
the highlighted themes and how they have survived, and thrived, in modern racial thought.
Entering the High Middle Ages, Western Europe had figured out most of its inner power struggles
and the beginnings of nation states had emerged. The dust had settled, relatively speaking, for a
society that was built around a ruling warrior class. Monarchies in England, France, and the Holy
Roman Empire ruled with absolute and in some cases divine authority, and the encroachment of the
Moors in Spain had reached a standstill. In these comparatively calm times, Western European men
were free to turn their attention to the development of culture and the cultivation of knowledge. Old
Roman and Greek histories were dragged out of

Throughout history mankind has transformed into a highly developed and cultured society, driven
on the foundations of one vital key factor in our evolution that set humans apart from other species
entirely, the ability to think. If humans did not possess the ability to think, there would be no
change or development of our species as a whole and individually. By challenging the natural
process of evolution and defying the odds, humans carved their way into this world to leave their
mark. A time period in history where thinking began to dig deeper and defining one s philosophical
thoughts became a prevalent and popular subject to indulge in was The Age of Enlightenment .

Born Thomas Wright Waller On The Era Of The 20th Century
Born Thomas Wright Waller on May 21, 1904, in New York City, Fats Waller would later
emerge as one of the most prolific artists of the 20th century with an illustrious career in which
he was recognized for his accomplishments as a Jazz pianist, organist, composer, singer, actor,
and comedian. Waller s parents were Adeline Waller and Reverend Edward Waller, a Baptist
preacher who conducted religious services and resided in Harlem. However, Waller s musical roots
in his family can be found through his grandfather, who was an extremely accomplished violinist,
and his mother, who was a church organist. As one might expect, Waller was extremely interested in
instruments at a young age; he was so interested that he learned to play the pianoat the age of 6.
Additionally, he became proficient in playing the organ and acquired basic musical knowledge
through the aid of his mother by the age of 10. Yet, Waller was not just limited to piano and
organ in his childhood; he developed skills in also the string bass and violin in only a few short
years. By 10 years old, Waller was playing regularly at his father s church and even had the
notable feat of playing the organ at Lincoln Theater in Harlem. Waller was so entrenched in music
that he, against the wishing of his father, dropped out of school and became a full time organist at
the Lincoln Theatre in Harlem.Waller s achievements continued to grow and in 1918, at the age of
14, he won a talent contest that confirmed his eminence was no

The Importance Of The Battle Of Midway
Why was the battle of Midway so crucial? On the 4th of June in 1942 started the victorious win of
the Americans that was soon to begin World War II! It was quite an amazing battle because the
Japanese should have won, but the Americans out smarted them, hacking naval codes, being ready,
and being where they needed to be at the right time. The Americans took down the Japanese
keeping control of Midway. The battle of Midwaybetween the Americans and the Japanese was the
most decisive naval battle in history it was the turning point because it brought the Americans into
the forefront of the war that eventually helped defeat Hitler.
The Japanese Threat During the time between Pearl Harbor and Midway, the Americans attacked
Japan several times and Japan decided to strike back at Midway. Following Pearl Harbor, Germany
announced war with America; however; it was not an instant arrangement, that is why Midway
came first. Franklin Roosevelt, the president at the time, saw Germany as a bigger threat than Japan

To the Americans their nemesis, the Japanese looked brave and vicious. There have been very
few battles to match this one including the battles of Trafalgar, Salamis, and Armada, other than
those few battles this was the most decisive naval warfare in history (Ballard, 1999). Because the
Japanese had so many more forces, they were expected to win (Wildenberg,2006). Midway was
selected by Yamamoto because he wanted a larger area to protect Japan, he figured it would be
better for them because it is closer to Japan not America. He also knew that America would try to

The Classroom Is A Critical Locus For Student...
The classroom is a critical locus for student interpersonal and educational development (Hudgins et
al, 37, 1994). When a student walks into a classroom their first impression is the physical
classroom environment. A student either sees the classroom as a positive place to learn or a
negative space they are forced to attend every day. Research has shown that students subject matter,
achievement and attitudes improve when the teacher creates a physical classroom environment that
is more conducive to learning. (Hudgins et al, 37, 1994). Well run classrooms begin with the room
s physical layout (Shalaway). First things first, a classroom s physical layout should reflect the
teaching style of the teacher. As a future teacher, the style of teaching that I value the most is
partner collaboration. I find that students learn to the best of their ability when they can bounce
ideas off each other and corporate in table groups. In the center of my classroom, I have placed my

A study concerned with the possible connections between children s behavior and reading banned
books focused on the potential influence that such books have on civic behaviors, mental health
problems, students grade point averages, and violent and non violent crime. Findings suggest that
consumption of banned books promoted civic behavior and had no effect on grade point
averages and criminal activity, but increased the internalizing and externalizing mental health
symptoms. The potential correlation between increased symptoms of mental health issues and
banned book reading existed within a small subset of the subjects and cannot be proven to be
substantial. Overall, banned books seem to have little to no negative effect on the majority of
children and foster increased civic behaviors (Ferguson). While the motivation behind banning
books seems logical and justified, in reality, books have no substantial negative effects on most
children. In all actuality, banned books foster increased positive, civic behaviors, likely because
they teach children tolerance by exposing them to diverse characters and humanizes groups

The Big Bang Theory
The Big Bang
For decades the Big Bang theory has been the leading theory on the beginning of our universe.
Alternate theories come and go, but mainly go. As new data and research are continually
eliminating alternatives to the standard model of cosmology, the Big Bang just keeps getting
stronger.
Before discussing the alternate theories to the Big Bang theory, the basics of the early universe
should first be understood. The main points opposing the theory are based around a few aspects
that will be defined in the explanation of the early universe. These points include inflation, dark
matter and dark energy, the cosmic microwave background (CMB), and red shift.
The theory states that the universe sprung from a singularity В– an ... Show more content on

These stars burned so hot that they would have emitted both visible light and huge amounts of
UV radiation. This radiation would have been able to break up hydrogen atoms, ending the dark
ages. However, these super hot stars could not live long enough to produce this effect. They
burned hot and fast, and died after only a million years. The smaller dying stars exploded, shooting
material into space, and the larger stars collapsed to create black holes.
The reactions within these huge stars created new elements, heavier elements such as oxygen and
carbon. Lemonick (2006) explains how these elements allowed the gaseous clouds to collapse
this time into much smaller stars than their predecessors, stars like our sun. And like the sun, they
would have started out generating lots of ultraviolet light before settling down to a more sedate
existence (p. 4). These smaller stars had the lifespan to be able to ionize the hydrogen. It was at
this time that the dark ages came to an end. Some scientists theorize that it was X rays and UV
light spewed from black holes that brought a close to this dark time, but perhaps it was both of
these theories that finally brought light to our universe.

at above we reflection about benefit of tuition classes for the children. So the tuition classes are
most effectively to improve the performance of relevant subject. I will tell you about extracurricular
activities, such as mathematics club, English club, and science club.
In the English club, we have a series of activities such as: 1. Reading English magazines and books,
if students can read two versions of the same magazine (for example, reading Newsweek in native
language and in English), this could help students to understand the content much easier. 2.
Watching English films with English subtitles. For students who can t understand a film without
subtitles and find themselves not listening at all when reading subtitles. If it is too difficult to
watch the whole film this way, try watching the first 10 or 15 minutes of the film with subtitles in a
familiar language, switch to English subtitles after that, and only switch back to subtitles in a
familiar language if students get totally lost following the story of the film. 3. Reading English
children s books. This is very similar to watching English children s movies, but with the added
advantage of there being more illustrations than adult books, which both help students to
understand the story and makes the page brighter and more motivating to read. 4. Listening to

The Value Of A Life

GOVT 35
23 September 2014
The Value of a Life Countries less privileged than America face the reoccurring issue of being
taken advantage of. This occurs because these countries have high unemployment rates and are
in poverty so they are given jobs through American factories. This process, though, is not always
a fair one. Haiti and China are both countries with bad labor regulations, usually by American
influence, and this hurts the welfare of these countries as a whole, the individuals in these
countries, and the morality of America. Dupuy (2014) writes that Haiti s people, trapped
working in factories for cheap labor, are faced with a hard life and various brutalities. Both
adults and children must live these lives of horrible situations where they have no other choice
than to work at extremely low wages because of Haiti s poverty levels. Whether they are sent
away from their families to live in the city, in order to have a better life, or they re born poor and
go to the city to work everyday, these people do not live a good life. The children who work have
long hours, usually from early dawn until night, and go home, sometimes only to be abused.
(Dupuy, 2014). These conditions are put onto lonely, young, and exhausted children who are not
living with their families. But these conditions of long work hours in Haiti do not only apply to
children, but also young people and middle aged, too (Shah, 1998). The United States

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Insurance

There are different types of insurance covers, the most popular being the motor insurance, health

insurance that is purchased for cars, motorcycles, vans, and other road vehicles. Its primary use is

government to have a suitable insurance coverage to certify that damages arise from an accident

The Australian Pilots Association ( Apa )
Introduction
The Australian Pilots Association (APA) is seeking to establish whether they would be able to
pierce the corporate veil in order for the pilots of Xpress Air Ltd (XAL) to claim their former
employment entitlements from Kwik Air Ltd (KAL). In its struggle to respond to the economic
downturn, KAL incorporated a wholly owned subsidiary XAL, and its restructure resulted in 200
pilots from KAL being made redundant and re employed by XAL at lower pay and superannuation.
The APA becomes infuriated at the fact that newly employed pilots at KAL are offered the original
contract with higher pay. In advising the APA in their representation, the nature of the wrongful act
must be identified. Then, we should evaluate the companies legal identity within the corporate
group and the potential existence of agency relationship between them to figure out whether the
veil of incorporation can be lifted in determining the liability that exists for the parties involved.
Separate Legal Entity
In order to establish the liability of each party involved, it must first be determined whether the
liable party will be KAL itself as a corporate personality or its directors. The case of Salomon v
Salomon Co Ltd has established the legal principle of a company as a separate legal entity with its
own rights and responsibilities. This legal doctrine was reaffirmed in Andar Transport Pty Ltd v
Brambles Ltd when Justice Kirby held that the mere fact that the company may be owned or

The Israelites are now occupying the Land that was promised to them through their forefathers.
Because of the Israelites disobedient to God, the Land was still occupied by the Canaanites. This
is a hostile time for the nation of Israel to be living among people who worship pagan gods.
Within the passage, the messenger of the Lord went up from Gilgal. Many towns in Scripture are
named Gilgal but, the one the author is referring to is not certain. Because of the setting and
previous information found in Joshua, the City that the author is referring to very well could be

Sociological Theories and Theorists
Origins of sociological thinking can be traced to the scientific revolution in the late seventeenth
and early eighteenth century (Kendall 11). In this time, great store was put on one s possession of
critical reasoning and experiences. In France the Enlightenment was dominated by a group called
philosophes; these men believed that human society could be improved through scientific
discoveries (Kendall 11). In France during this time period women were excluded from public
life, but some women were able to influence the philosophes by participating in a salon which is

Weber, Max 1864 1920: He was a German social scientist who was also concerned about the
changes brought about by the Industrial Revolution. Max s significance was considerable among
German scientist. Little of his work was published during his lifetime because most of his work
was restricted to scholarly specialist; his work had more of an impact after he died (Biography).
He believed that values could not be separated from the research process; he stressed that sociology
should be value free, that the researcher should not let his/her personal interest influence the
outcome (Kendall 19).
Georg Simmel 1858 1918: Georg Simmel is best known for his contribution to sociology and

interaction processes within groups (Kendall 20). He concluded that interaction patterns differed
between a dyad a social group with two members and a triad a social group with three members;
he developed an approach that focuses attention on the recurring social forms called Formal
Sociology (Kendall 21). From 1889 to 1909, Georg Simmel fostered the German Sociological
Association into existence. However, he lamented that he was seen as a sociologist. Simmel
considered sociology as an ancillary field of study to that of philosophy. He became the

Poverty In The Film Blood Diamond
Every nation has a responsibility to its citizens to improve the economic, political and social well
being of its people. However, in the film Blood Diamond it is made clear that there is an
exploitation of the people in Sierra Leone. This economic problem is fueled by three main
concepts; poverty, production/resources and demand/supply. Through the analysis of the three main
concepts it will be shown how the economic problem was the result of each sub concept.
Poverty
In Blood Diamond we see examples of both the working poor Solomon Vandy, and the absolute
poor those living in utter destitution. Vandy worked two jobs as a fisherman and a doorman, and
even with two jobs, it can be seen by his living situation that he has to work very ... Show more

This then makes marine life unsuitable therefore eliminating another healthy food option for the
many living in absolute poverty. The mining of diamonds contributes to the poverty in Sierra
Leone and makes it harder to escape it. The process of producing the diamonds so they could be
sold on the market involved many steps which were illustrated in the movie, Blood Diamond.
Smugglers like Archer would supply the RUF with guns. The guns would be used by the RUF
to intimidate the people of Sierra Leone into working as laborers for them; we see this with
Solomon and his son. These men would be forced to dig in the water mines for hours a day
searching for diamonds of all sizes. Then the diamonds are mixed with other diamonds all
around the world, mixing the illegal ones with the legal ones; this was explained in the movie
by Archer to Maggie. When the diamonds are mixed in with the others, no one can determine
for certainty where each originated from. The export of the diamonds relies on how well Sierra
Leone s resources are to produce it and its resources are the laborers mining for the diamonds.
More diamonds are exported out of the country when there are more laborers mining for them. It
is then distributed to nations where they are made into necklaces and bracelets, and no questions
are asked. We see clearly in the movie how the factors of production are used: land, labour, and
entrepreneurship. Land is the resource where diamonds are found, and in Blood Diamond we

Causes Of Chinese Stock Market Crash Essay
Chapter 2: Causes of the Chinese stock market crash
In the previous chapter, the researcher has covered some basic information about the stock market.
Hence, in this chapter, the current situation that the Chinese stock market is suffering from and
factors contributing towards this crisis will be analysed. At the end of this chapter, readers will
have an idea how a market which was stable for many years could become unsteady within such a
short period of time.
2.1.The definition of a stock market crash
A stock market crash represents a steep fall in the value of market prices and it is often the
factor creating economic depression (Galbraith, 1988). However, the value of the drop that can
be considered as a predictor for the crash is debatable. On one hand, Mishkin (1990) argues that
the stock market crash only occurs when there was a 20 percent fall in stock price across crucial
cross sections of a market. On the other hand, Patel and Sarkar (1998) define a stock market
crash as a fall of more than 35 percent of the market s stock value. No matter how large the
percentage of a drop in the price of stocks is on the stock market, both theories agree that the most
devastating crashes are usually consequences of an overly inflated market, which is also known as
a bubble (Mishkin, 1990; Pater Sarkar, 1998).

A bubble in a stock market is an investing phenomenon involving the excessive expectation of

The Negative Impact Of Women In Modern Civilization
Civilization affected various groups such as women in many diverse ways that had caused a
negative impact on civilization. Women in ancient civilization industrialized negatively due to the
lack of respect women had gotten from men. The thought women had gotten from the males was
that their only purpose in life was to be the mother; only seen, not heard for both women and
children. To show that women and their children had no freedom, independence, and were
considered a property of the male: 210. If a womanshould die, they shall kill his daughter ( FROM
The Code of Hammurabi 23). By men treating women as if they had no freedom, independence, and
were the property of the men they negatively influence the development of civilization for women
by making it more difficult for their civilization to expand. Women were the property of the men
since men thought women were incompetent of doing anything on their own. While analyzing The
Code of Hammurabi, nearby were many references that women might not be anybody without a
man in their lives. Nonetheless, referring to women as being the property of the men, women
might not get recognized until doing the following: 128. If a man marries a wifebut does not draw
up a formal contract for her, she is not a wife. ( FROM The Code of Hammurabi 20). Women did

Structors, a company that handles, recycles, sorts, separates and dissembles electronic devices
safely in the USA. E Structors is a certified recycling company to meet EPA standard of handling

On the other hand the phone may be useful for people who like the old fashion design and don t
care for smartphone features such as web browsing or touch screen or people who simply one
have a phone to make calls or send messages, but we must remember that the phone has a price
tag at 6000 euros and isn t targeted old ladies that have a budget at 300 DKK.
The third reason is that the phone costs 6000 euros and has absolutely no features and is
compared to a luxuries watch as stated in the text at line 15. In my opinion a phone that cost 6000
euros should have a lot of features, that it don t break is not enough.
The fourth reason is that electronic brands all over the world is making their devises break after a
certain of time to make the consumer buy another I don t think like stated in the text that it s a
manufacturing failure that makes the phones break down I think its intentional that it happens.
The fifth reason is that it s not a smartphone, maybe some of old fashion business men would like
to buy it, but it s the golden time for smartphone and almost everyone have one and like it far better
than the old one no touch screen and with

Marc Anthony s Performance Of God Bless America
At the 2013 MLB All Star game Marco Antonio MuГ±iz, who goes by the artistic name of Marc
Anthony, sang God Bless America for the audience. The live performance found its way to
YouTube and became accessible to those who were not there to watch the performance live or
through television. This made it easier for the performance to receive more negative, racist, and
discriminatory responses through social mediums, particularly twitter, and eventually became a
controversial topic among news sources and media. In this essay, I will analyze responses to Marc
Anthony s performance of God Bless America published on Twitter and define what it truly means
to be American. This incident was one of many incidents in the United Statesthat incited
controversy over whether or not a famous figure s actions were truly American. Another incident
involved Cuban born baseball player Yoenis CГ©spedes, when he spoke in Spanish during an
interview after being handed the Derby trophy, as reported by the Huffington Post. In both cases,
baseball fans took to twitter to express their anger, betrayal, and disgust over MuГ±iz and
CГ©spedes actions, which they deemed to be un American . In order to understand the importance
of the comments made on social made, we need to understand the intended message of the artifact.
This artifact is the YouTube video, which is also the main medium for the message. Other media
that will be addressed in this essay is twitter, Buzzfeed, and other common social media,

Writing the Essay
Fall 2012
Writing the Essay is a workshop style writing class, a forum for students to develop complex ideas,
think about the characteristics of effective and compelling writing, and engage in a conversation
about the essay form. The goal of the course is for you to improve as a writer, reader, and critical
and creative thinker, and for you to write essays that are finished products of high quality.
An essay must turn a question into a quest, to borrow the words of the writer John Fowles. A truly
engaging essay shows the movement of the writer s thinking every new piece of evidence becomes

In order to receive a grade for each final essay, you must complete the writing assignments that

B work gives the reader a positive impression of general superiority in all listed standards.
C work is average in each standard.
D or F work is seriously deficient in one or more of the listed standards.
Final Grade:
Essay 1: 30%
Essay 2: 30%
Essay 3: 30%
Class participation/portfolio: 10%
Due Dates and Late Papers: Late papers will lose half a letter grade per class until they re turned
in (more than two weeks late will result in an F). At the end of each progression, please put all
exercises and drafts in a folder with your final essay on top, and turn the whole thing in portfolio
style.
Attendance and Participation: Preparation, attendance, and speaking during discussions are all
important parts of the class. Much of the learning in writing courses occurs through active
discussion and in class writing rather than through lectures. Therefore, to do well, you ll need to
show up literally and figuratively. More than two un excused absences will most likely lower your
final grade; more than four absences will put you at a severe disadvantage in the course, because

The Fallout from a Potential Eurozone Breakup
The Fallout From a Potential Eurozone Breakup
Executive Summary: Today, the global economic crisis is centered around the struggles of the
European Union to protect its very existence. At the start of its second decade of existence, the
common currency form of the Euro, shared by 17 of the European Union s 27 member states, is
imperiled by the threat that some of its struggling member might depart from the Eurozone. With a
particular focus on Greece, which balanced the question of its status in the Eurozone over the
course of its recent elections, the discussion here considers the possible consequences of a breakup
of the Eurozone. By and large, the discussion will demonstrate that the consequences would be
catastrophic for the global community as a whole. The discussion considers a brief history of
globalization and, subsequently, a concise history of the institution of the Euro itself. Within the
context of this history, the discussion will note that substantial evidence existing the foreshadow
the forces that are now threatening to dismantle the singular monetary currency of Europe. Among
those forces, the research addresses the reality that the differently scaled economies of Europe
have long struggled to find common currency ground, and always with little success. The findings
also suggest that an era of unbridled borrowing and budget deficit spiraling have now produced a
scenario where the Eurozone appears on the brink of dismantling. Were such an event to occur,

Essay On Princess Diana
Princess Diana was a very devoted woman, she always saw the good in everyone and always
tried to help anyone in need, anyway she could. Lady Diana Spencer married Prince Charles in
1981 and became known as Princess Diana. Anywhere I see suffering, that is where I want to be,
doing what I can. Princess Diana. As an adored member of the Royal Family, Princess Diana broke
barriers of royal protocol, was one of the biggest fashion icons of the world, and will be
remembered through her legacy.
Starting with how she became part of the Royal Family. She married Prince Charles on July 29,

Diana even got to help design her own wedding dress with a little known design team David and
Elizabeth Emanuel. The whole process took about 3 months to complete. She ended up having
a 25 foot train and it was covered in about 10,000 pearls. Her dress was so big that she could
barely even get in the car to go to her own wedding. The cramped ride caused her to have
wrinkles all over the dress. Her veil actually was longer than her train. When making the weil
they used about 153 yards of tulle. The shoes she wore took longer to make than her dress. Te
shoes took about 6 months to make and included 542 sequins and 132 pearls in a heart shaped
design.

Civil War Women
The Civil War was a fight between the unity of one country and equality for all its citizens,
against the independence of a divided nation. This war is one of the most impactful events in
United States history and it brought immense changes to the country. It s most remembered for
the fight against slavery in the United States and the Emancipation Proclamation as its result.
The Civil War, also referred to as the War of Rebellion and the War to Make Men Free, did not
just unify the country and end slavery, but it also transformed the image of women during the
1860 s. This was not just the War to Make Men Free, but the War to Make Women Free as well.

Due to the advancements from the Industrial Revolution, weapons were more deadly and injuries
were more severe. The Civil War had the most United States casualties than any other war, so
women naturally became highly involved in the war effort. This meant that nursing shifted from a
job to a necessity during the war. The common duties of a nurse included many tasks such as
tending to patients wounds, cleaning the hospital, and comforting soldiers (Currie 48). Many times
the women were not trained beforehand and this led to many mistakes due to inexperience and
unpreparedness for the gruesome injuries and illnesses within the hospitals (49). However, women
were drawn to become nurses for many reasons including staying involved in the war effort and a
higher wage of $12 a month

C. Cavafy s Ugly Duckling
A man decided he want to travel to many places around the world. The final destination was to
come back home. But when he did he found no real satisfaction in traveling to those places. He had
spent his time in those place not paying attention to his surroundings he just came to say he came
with no other need or want to be there. And as the man looked back he wished he had done
something different. Then what would make that Journey a worthwhile one and what prepares us
for the destination. The journey matters more than the destination when you learn and grow from
the journey.
We will not always have the chance to go on a journey so when we can embrace it. In a poem
written by C.P. Cavafy it talks about the importance of journeys. It talks about the importance of
enjoying the journey and of finding and buying mementos to remind them of their journey. It also
talks about the importance of never ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

to try to find a better place for him. He goes to many place and sees many other birds and

would hurt him but when he looks into the pond he sees his reflection that of beautiful swan. He
had been persecuted and despised for his ugliness, and now he heard them say he was the most
beautiful of all the birds (paragraph 40). The duckling was born ugly and had spent the majority
of his life be persecuted and made fun of for it. And it was because of the way he was treated
when he was younger that made it so special to no longer be considered ugly. To have other birds

Influence Of Eulogy On King Philip
Apess and Manhood: The Only Influence? In his work, Eulogy on King Philip, Apess discusses
King Philip from a Native American point of view, and contrasts it with other works of the time.
Apess, being a Native American, portrays King Philip as a true hero rather than a tragic hero or a
villain. In his work, he also contrasts actions of the Native Americans with that of the British
Puritan settlers. Peter Bayers, in William Apess s Manhood and Native Resistance in Jacksonian
America, discusses how the idea and ideals of manhood affect Apess directly and how they
influenced him. Bayers looks closely into manhood during Apess s time in addition to what Apess
talks about openly in his other narratives; he also represents Eulogy in a particular... Show more

In Apess s argument against White oppression and White views of Natives, Apess uses his
religious background and that of the Puritans and shows how the Puritans behaved. Apess says,
it is also wonderful how they prayed, that they should pray the bullet through the Indians heart
and their souls down into hell (127). Apess shows this language is sickening , and he continues
that he puts no faith in such prayers, because if he did, he knew that there would be no Native
Americans left (127). Obviously, Apess worries about more than his own masculinity and that of
the feminization of Natives. Apess argues that the Puritans acted in an unchristian manner and
how the Natives exhibited Christian behavior in their actions. He says of the Puritans, [b]ut
while they appear to be by profession more virtuous, their crimes still blacken (124). Religion is
important here as Apess uses the idea of hypocrisy to illustrate to his audience how terrible the
Puritans were acting, not only as humans, but as Christians as well. He states because the Natives
have no claim of being pure, or pious, that the same crimes would not appear as great. Plainly, in
Eulogy Apess is concerned with religion as well as acts and actions taken by both sides, and

Streetcar Named Desire Meaning
There is a meaning behind everything in life and in the play A Streetcar Named Desire there
was a significance to the name given to the play and a relation to Blanche s life. The Literal
meaning of the title is that there is a street car that is actually named desire that she takes to go
visit the Kowalskis. The car named desire is mentioned twice in the story, in the first scene and
also later on in the play when Blanche tells Stella that she came her in the car named desire in
response to Stella asking Haven t you ever ridden on that street car? . Metaphorically speaking the
title has a lot more significance. Blanche is at the Kowalski place because desire literally brought

The Size Of Connecticut, El Salvador
The size of Connecticut, El Salvador is one of Central America s most densely populated
countries and has the highest mortality rate in the world. First conquered by the Spaniards in
the early 1500s, El Salvador s history is filled with tension, violence, and exclusion; the settlers
robbed the indigenous people of their land and forced them to slave in the coffee plant fields.
Not only were the indigenous people deprived of their land, it was kept in the hands of the elite,
creating little to no social mobility and further subjugating native Salvadorans. As discontent
and tension increased between the elite and the poor, a massacre occurred on January 22, 1932
that was carried out by the National Guard, killing between 10,000 and 40,000 peasants most of
whom were indigenous people. The slaughter ignited a fire among the Salvadoran people that
was fueled by unfulfilled promises of socio economic parity and agrarian reform. In 1979 a civil
war broke loose, Salvadorans were disappearing, illegally detained by the military, and killed. Maria
Teresa Tula, a Salvadoran womanof indigenous decent shares her first hand experience with
violence in her work Hear My Testimony; as the wife of a union member, Maria Teresa was
catapulted into a world where the government captured and killed her husband. In order to find

  • 2. Pros And Cons Of Floodplains A floodplain or flood plain is an area of land adjacent to a stream or river that stretches from the banks of its channel to the base of the enclosing valley walls and experiences flooding during periods of high discharge. Or in simple words we can say an area of low lying ground adjacent to a river, formed mainly of riversediments and subject to flooding. Flood plains are made by a meander eroding sideways as they travel downstream. When a river breaks its banks and floods, it leaves behind layers of alluvium (silt). These gradually build up to create the floor of the flood plain. Floodplains can support particularly rich ecosystems, both in quantity and diversity. Floodplains are where land and water meet. The two environments merge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This reduces a river s discharge and so makes it less likely to flood. Afforestation also prevents mass wasting which reduces the amount of soil entering the river and keeps the river s capacity high. When combined with floodplain zoning, afforestation can be very effective at reducing the risk of flooding. It creates new habitats for animals and improving water quality by filtering pollutants out of rainwater. The issue with afforestation is that it requires quite a lot of space to be effective and could prove unpopular among famers on the floodplain as they won t be too happy with trees sapping nutrients from the soil. This issue can be combated somewhat by creating riparian buffers, thin vegetated strips of land that run adjacent to a river s channel. Wetland Restoration involves creating conditions that are favorable for the development of wetlands (marshes or swamps). Wetlands are able to store large volumes of water which helps to reduce the discharge in a river. Wetlands don t reduce flooding where they are located but rather downstream of the river. They have the added benefit of creating new habitats for animals and greatly increasing biodiversity. They reduce the area of land available for farming though which makes them unpopular among ... Since I have such a strong love for music there are a lot of song that I love and it s hard to choose one that I love the most. However, if I was ever asked what is my favorite song I would probably say that song by Ariane Grande is. She is a very talented artist and I love so many of her songs but that one is my favorite. The only downside about the songis that it s only a minute and 20 seconds long because it s just an intro to the album. Then again, I often think that s why it s such a great song, because it leaves the mind wondering. The overall genre of this song is pop and R B which probably has something to do with why I love the song so much because those are my two favorite genres. The... The rhythm of this song can be a bit hard to find since it s so slow but the rhythm follows the 1, 2, 3 pace. Then it turns into monophonic with the solo of the instruments. This song has two major functions in my life which is aesthetic enjoyment and emotional expression. In my opinion, this song s beauty is the epitome of perfection, I have no problem saying that this song is one of the, if not the most beautiful song I have ever heard. I would say it functions say emotional expression because I feel as though with the melody alone it speaks to me. Every single time I hear this song I feel that happy and peaceful feeling you feel when you re in love. Even if not being in love this can make you excited for it. Chesapeake Life History Between 1813 and 1962, steamboats ruled the Chesapeake Bay, reflected in a fascinating and important era, in which trade and travel were made more convenient with steamers that linked parts of Maryland and Virginia, with distant and isolated rural communities along the Eastern Shore, in particular, including Piankatank River and Occohannock Creek in Virginia, Hudson Creek off the Little Choptank River in Maryland, Bushwood, and Rock Point It made possible access to certain goods and services typically unavailable east of the Bay, along with opportunities for leisure and entertainment. • 6. Morton s Toe Research Paper Take off your shoes. Look down at your feet. Is your second toe longer than your big toe? If so, you have Morton s toe. Morton s toe is a skeletal disorder, in which the first metatarsal is shorter than the second metatarsal. Metatarsals are the bones that attach to the toes or known as phalanges. Individuals often mistake Morton s toe of the second toe being longer than the first, but it is actually the second metatarsal that is longer than the first metatarsal; therefore, the second toe seems longer than the big toe. Morton s toe was discovered and named by Dr. Dudley J. Morton who was a physician, orthopedic surgeon, researcher, and author in the 1920 s ( Fehrs). It could also be referred to as Morton s Foot Syndrome and Greek Foot. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is congenital meaning it is present at birth. Also, Morton s toe may be caused when the first metatarsal bone is abnormally short compared to the second metatarsal bone and when the first metatarsal bone has more motion, which means it is unstable. This instability is known as Hypermobility of the First Metatarsal Bone (Schuler). Additionally, Morton s toe can be simply recognized without an X ray. Some symptoms are more noticeable than others. For instance, if one looks at his feet and notices that his second toe is longer than the first, he has Morton s toe. If the space between your first and second toe appears to be deeper, not wider, but deeper than the space between your second and third toes, you have Morton s Toe ( Morton s Toe ). An individual can also detect Morton s toe by holding down his toes and finding bumps where the metatarsal bones end. He will mark the location of the bumps and compare the lines. The first metatarsal bone is shortened if the line for the second toe is closer to the leg than the line for the big toe ( Morton s Toe: Symptoms and Treatments ). Excess skin between the toes is another possible sign for Morton s toe. More symptoms of Morton s toe include pain in areas of the foot to the neck, callus formation, and musculoskeletal ... • 7. Effects Of Removing Extrinsic Branding Cues On Taste... The Effect of Removing Extrinsic Branding Cues on Taste Perception Abstract Consumer taste preferences have been found to be highly influenced by extrinsic cues such as the branding of a product. This study aims to examine the effect of removing extrinsic branding cues on taste perception. Using a between subject design, participants (n=20) participated in a blind experiment, they either tasted Walkers crisp or Tesco value crisps, Coca Cola, or Sainsbury value cola. Participants evaluated the taste on a rating scale, where 1 indicated least satisfying and 10 most satisfying. There were no significant difference between the Walkers crisps and Tesco value crisps, t (18) = 616, p=0.546). Also no difference was found between the two bands of cola, Mann Whitney U = 37.5, p=0.353. These findings suggest extrinsic branding cues may have a relatively strong influence over our taste. Introduction Over the years, researchers have taken an interest into consumer behaviour and their preference to purchase manufacture branded products rather than store brand, although the products contain the same content. A brand is defined as a name, sign, symbol or a design used to identify the goods or services of a vendor (Kotler Keller, 2006). Branding has been identified to be a very important non sensory factor in the decision of purchasing products (Varela et al, 2010). One of the most studied phenomena related to branding has shown that exposure to a certain stimuli, results in an increase ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. A Long Way Gone By Ishmael Beah Ishmael Beah s memoir, A long Way Gone, is very descriptive and has a very effective way of painting a picture in the reader s mind of what he went through as a boy soldier. Throughout the memoir, Beah used quite a few statements that impacted me emotionally, on a personal level. His vivid detail, word choice and how personal, yet professional he kept his writing led me to understand how exactly the war affected him, and everyone else who lived, and lives, in Sierra Leone. The first quote that stood out to me was when Beah was hiding with Kaloko outside of a deserted village: I became frustrated with living in fear. I felt as if I was always waiting for death to come to me, so I decided to go somewhere where there was at least some peace. (46) I find his word choice in this section interesting, due to the fact that he used frustrated instead of angry or upset. This could mean that he was becoming more irritable or short, but not to an extent of anger where is is clear or violent. Also, this frustration would seem like it would be commonplace in this time, since everyone in Sierra Leone is in danger since the rebels were ruthlessly killing people and burning villages to the ground. This is part of the rising action in the story, and helped to build up the idea that his patience with the ongoing war and its violence was growing thin. Another thing that I noticed in this section of the book is that he said he felt like he was waiting for death to come to him in a way, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Possessed with the knowledge of other countries and empires, but unable to actually travel there, these thinkers were tormented by their lack of information. Relying on stories told by merchants and sailors, local tales and legends, as well as varied and inaccurate ancient histories, they tried to cobble together maps, travelogues, and books detailing as much of the world as they knew, or believed existed. From these sometimes accurate and often fanciful accounts of mythical beasts and cities, one can see the development of many elements of modern day thought on race and racial origin. There are many important thinkers, such as St. Augustine, who emerged during and after the fall of the Roman Empire and the Dark Ages that ensued, from roughly 476 1000, and their contributions will be addressed. However, it is with the advent of the High Middle Ages that books, philosophy, theology, and maps blossomed along with expanded ambitions of capturing all of the knowledge possible at the time. The paper will first explain the foundations of medieval race thought and cover some of the important philosophers, before moving on to discuss how these ideas were represented throughout the broader culture of the times. The second half of the essay will focus on several of the highlighted themes and how they have survived, and thrived, in modern racial thought. Entering the High Middle Ages, Western Europe had figured out most of its inner power struggles and the beginnings of nation states had emerged. The dust had settled, relatively speaking, for a society that was built around a ruling warrior class. Monarchies in England, France, and the Holy Roman Empire ruled with absolute and in some cases divine authority, and the encroachment of the Moors in Spain had reached a standstill. In these comparatively calm times, Western European men were free to turn their attention to the development of culture and the cultivation of knowledge. Born Thomas Wright Waller On The Era Of The 20th Century Born Thomas Wright Waller on May 21, 1904, in New York City, Fats Waller would later emerge as one of the most prolific artists of the 20th century with an illustrious career in which he was recognized for his accomplishments as a Jazz pianist, organist, composer, singer, actor, and comedian. Waller s parents were Adeline Waller and Reverend Edward Waller, a Baptist preacher who conducted religious services and resided in Harlem. However, Waller s musical roots in his family can be found through his grandfather, who was an extremely accomplished violinist, and his mother, who was a church organist. As one might expect, Waller was extremely interested in instruments at a young age; he was so interested that he learned to play the pianoat the age of 6. Additionally, he became proficient in playing the organ and acquired basic musical knowledge through the aid of his mother by the age of 10. Yet, Waller was not just limited to piano and organ in his childhood; he developed skills in also the string bass and violin in only a few short years. By 10 years old, Waller was playing regularly at his father s church and even had the notable feat of playing the organ at Lincoln Theater in Harlem. Waller was so entrenched in music that he, against the wishing of his father, dropped out of school and became a full time organist at the Lincoln Theatre in Harlem.Waller s achievements continued to grow and in 1918, at the age of 14, he won a talent contest that confirmed his eminence was no ... • 17. The Classroom Is A Critical Locus For Student... The classroom is a critical locus for student interpersonal and educational development (Hudgins et al, 37, 1994). When a student walks into a classroom their first impression is the physical classroom environment. A student either sees the classroom as a positive place to learn or a negative space they are forced to attend every day. Research has shown that students subject matter, achievement and attitudes improve when the teacher creates a physical classroom environment that is more conducive to learning. (Hudgins et al, 37, 1994). Well run classrooms begin with the room s physical layout (Shalaway). First things first, a classroom s physical layout should reflect the teaching style of the teacher. As a future teacher, the style of teaching that I value the most is partner collaboration. I find that students learn to the best of their ability when they can bounce ideas off each other and corporate in table groups. In the center of my classroom, I have placed my students tables with a group of chairs around the table. This will give my students the opportunity to work and collaborate with each other. I have also made sure that students tables are far enough apart so that there is an aisle big enough for students and disabled students to get up and down the aisle easily. In front of the tables, I have placed a mini lesson rug by the smart board. The mini lesson rug will act as an extra placefor mini lessons and further needed instruction/practice for ... A study concerned with the possible connections between children s behavior and reading banned books focused on the potential influence that such books have on civic behaviors, mental health problems, students grade point averages, and violent and non violent crime. Findings suggest that consumption of banned books promoted civic behavior and had no effect on grade point averages and criminal activity, but increased the internalizing and externalizing mental health symptoms. The potential correlation between increased symptoms of mental health issues and banned book reading existed within a small subset of the subjects and cannot be proven to be substantial. Overall, banned books seem to have little to no negative effect on the majority of children and foster increased civic behaviors (Ferguson). While the motivation behind banning books seems logical and justified, in reality, books have no substantial negative effects on most children. In all actuality, banned books foster increased positive, civic behaviors, likely because they teach children tolerance by exposing them to diverse characters and humanizes groups whose lifestyle choices they may be unfamiliar and innately uncomfortable with. The Perks of Being a Wallflower exposes students to multiple incarnations of homosexual characters Patrick, a strong and proud gay teen who is loved by friends and family regardless of his sexual preference, as well as Brad Patrick s partner who is uncomfortable with his sexual preference, does not come out to friends or family, and is ashamed when his father discovers that he is a homosexual. As new data and research are continually eliminating alternatives to the standard model of cosmology, the Big Bang just keeps getting stronger. Before discussing the alternate theories to the Big Bang theory, the basics of the early universe should first be understood. The main points opposing the theory are based around a few aspects that will be defined in the explanation of the early universe. These points include inflation, dark matter and dark energy, the cosmic microwave background (CMB), and red shift. The theory states that the universe sprung from a singularity В– an ... This radiation would have been able to break up hydrogen atoms, ending the dark ages. However, these super hot stars could not live long enough to produce this effect. They burned hot and fast, and died after only a million years. The smaller dying stars exploded, shooting material into space, and the larger stars collapsed to create black holes. The reactions within these huge stars created new elements, heavier elements such as oxygen and carbon. Lemonick (2006) explains how these elements allowed the gaseous clouds to collapse this time into much smaller stars than their predecessors, stars like our sun. And like the sun, they would have started out generating lots of ultraviolet light before settling down to a more sedate existence (p. 4). These smaller stars had the lifespan to be able to ionize the hydrogen. It was at this time that the dark ages came to an end. Some scientists theorize that it was X rays and UV light spewed from black holes that brought a close to this dark time, but perhaps it was both of these theories that finally brought light to our universe. The Value Of A Life Kathleen Sullivan Professor Janice Shiu GOVT 35 23 September 2014 The Value of a Life Countries less privileged than America face the reoccurring issue of being taken advantage of. This occurs because these countries have high unemployment rates and are in poverty so they are given jobs through American factories. This process, though, is not always a fair one. Haiti and China are both countries with bad labor regulations, usually by American influence, and this hurts the welfare of these countries as a whole, the individuals in these countries, and the morality of America. Dupuy (2014) writes that Haiti s people, trapped working in factories for cheap labor, are faced with a hard life and various brutalities. Both adults and children must live these lives of horrible situations where they have no other choice than to work at extremely low wages because of Haiti s poverty levels. Whether they are sent away from their families to live in the city, in order to have a better life, or they re born poor and go to the city to work everyday, these people do not live a good life. The children who work have long hours, usually from early dawn until night, and go home, sometimes only to be abused. (Dupuy, 2014). These conditions are put onto lonely, young, and exhausted children who are not living with their families. But these conditions of long work hours in Haiti do not only apply to children, but also young people and middle aged, too (Shah, 1998). The United States ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This then makes marine life unsuitable therefore eliminating another healthy food option for the many living in absolute poverty. The mining of diamonds contributes to the poverty in Sierra Leone and makes it harder to escape it. The process of producing the diamonds so they could be sold on the market involved many steps which were illustrated in the movie, Blood Diamond. Smugglers like Archer would supply the RUF with guns. The guns would be used by the RUF to intimidate the people of Sierra Leone into working as laborers for them; we see this with Solomon and his son. These men would be forced to dig in the water mines for hours a day searching for diamonds of all sizes. Then the diamonds are mixed with other diamonds all around the world, mixing the illegal ones with the legal ones; this was explained in the movie by Archer to Maggie. When the diamonds are mixed in with the others, no one can determine for certainty where each originated from. The export of the diamonds relies on how well Sierra Leone s resources are to produce it and its resources are the laborers mining for the diamonds. More diamonds are exported out of the country when there are more laborers mining for them. It is then distributed to nations where they are made into necklaces and bracelets, and no questions are asked. Causes Of Chinese Stock Market Crash Essay Chapter 2: Causes of the Chinese stock market crash In the previous chapter, the researcher has covered some basic information about the stock market. Hence, in this chapter, the current situation that the Chinese stock market is suffering from and factors contributing towards this crisis will be analysed. At the end of this chapter, readers will have an idea how a market which was stable for many years could become unsteady within such a short period of time. 2.1.The definition of a stock market crash A stock market crash represents a steep fall in the value of market prices and it is often the factor creating economic depression (Galbraith, 1988). However, the value of the drop that can be considered as a predictor for the crash is debatable. On one hand, Mishkin (1990) argues that the stock market crash only occurs when there was a 20 percent fall in stock price across crucial cross sections of a market. On the other hand, Patel and Sarkar (1998) define a stock market crash as a fall of more than 35 percent of the market s stock value. No matter how large the percentage of a drop in the price of stocks is on the stock market, both theories agree that the most devastating crashes are usually consequences of an overly inflated market, which is also known as a bubble (Mishkin, 1990; Pater Sarkar, 1998). 2.2.The definition of a bubble in the stock market A bubble in a stock market is an investing phenomenon involving the excessive expectation of investors concerning ... Usually by the day after the event occurs is when the media is a little more accurate with the details, but not one hundred percent yet. • 39. The Negative Impact Of Women In Modern Civilization Civilization affected various groups such as women in many diverse ways that had caused a negative impact on civilization. Women in ancient civilization industrialized negatively due to the lack of respect women had gotten from men. The thought women had gotten from the males was that their only purpose in life was to be the mother; only seen, not heard for both women and children. To show that women and their children had no freedom, independence, and were considered a property of the male: 210. If a womanshould die, they shall kill his daughter ( FROM The Code of Hammurabi 23). By men treating women as if they had no freedom, independence, and were the property of the men they negatively influence the development of civilization for women by making it more difficult for their civilization to expand. Women were the property of the men since men thought women were incompetent of doing anything on their own. While analyzing The Code of Hammurabi, nearby were many references that women might not be anybody without a man in their lives. Nonetheless, referring to women as being the property of the men, women might not get recognized until doing the following: 128. If a man marries a wifebut does not draw up a formal contract for her, she is not a wife. ( FROM The Code of Hammurabi 20). This made it easier for the performance to receive more negative, racist, and discriminatory responses through social mediums, particularly twitter, and eventually became a controversial topic among news sources and media. In this essay, I will analyze responses to Marc Anthony s performance of God Bless America published on Twitter and define what it truly means to be American. The Fallout from a Potential Eurozone Breakup The Fallout From a Potential Eurozone Breakup Executive Summary: Today, the global economic crisis is centered around the struggles of the European Union to protect its very existence. At the start of its second decade of existence, the common currency form of the Euro, shared by 17 of the European Union s 27 member states, is imperiled by the threat that some of its struggling member might depart from the Eurozone. With a particular focus on Greece, which balanced the question of its status in the Eurozone over the course of its recent elections, the discussion here considers the possible consequences of a breakup of the Eurozone. By and large, the discussion will demonstrate that the consequences would be catastrophic for the global community as a whole. The discussion considers a brief history of globalization and, subsequently, a concise history of the institution of the Euro itself. Within the context of this history, the discussion will note that substantial evidence existing the foreshadow the forces that are now threatening to dismantle the singular monetary currency of Europe. Among those forces, the research addresses the reality that the differently scaled economies of Europe have long struggled to find common currency ground, and always with little success. The findings also suggest that an era of unbridled borrowing and budget deficit spiraling have now produced a scenario where the Eurozone appears on the brink of dismantling. In his work, Eulogy on King Philip, Apess discusses King Philip from a Native American point of view, and contrasts it with other works of the time. Apess, being a Native American, portrays King Philip as a true hero rather than a tragic hero or a villain. In his work, he also contrasts actions of the Native Americans with that of the British Puritan settlers. Peter Bayers, in William Apess s Manhood and Native Resistance in Jacksonian America, discusses how the idea and ideals of manhood affect Apess directly and how they influenced him. Apess says, it is also wonderful how they prayed, that they should pray the bullet through the Indians heart and their souls down into hell (127). Apess shows this language is sickening , and he continues that he puts no faith in such prayers, because if he did, he knew that there would be no Native Americans left (127). Obviously, Apess worries about more than his own masculinity and that of the feminization of Natives. Apess argues that the Puritans acted in an unchristian manner and how the Natives exhibited Christian behavior in their actions. He says of the Puritans, [b]ut while they appear to be by profession more virtuous, their crimes still blacken (124). Religion is important here as Apess uses the idea of hypocrisy to illustrate to his audience how terrible the Puritans were acting, not only as humans, but as Christians as well.
