The Ankh Research Paper
To the best of my knowledge, the Ankh is an Egyptian symbol standing for protection. I know
that it is a popular symbol when it comes to amulets or necklaces, as well as bracelet charms.
Other than that I have seen it in several films with pharaohs, who keep it in their hand or look at
it. The Ankh is part of the Egyptian culture. There are theories amongst scholars that it pre dates
the time of the pharaohs, but that is just theory for now. Ankh is the hieroglyph for life or the
universe as a whole and there is no further definition on what life means here exactly. The symbol
is shaped like Tau or a looped cross and is thought to be the oldest and most widespread cross that
we know of. Other names include crux ansata, or simply cross... Show more content on

In fact, it has been tied to all the elements. We can find the ankh on sun discs where it is also
related to the king s authority and during purification or libation rituals an ankh vessel was used.
In depictions of these rituals the two divinities pour water over the king, but the water is depicted
by chains of ankh symbols. The earth element is represented by food or more specifically grain as
it was connected to living, you can t live without food and in hieroglyphic texts the symbols for

Popular Culture at the Beginning of the 1960 s Essay
Popular Culture at the Beginning of the 1960 s
1960 s Britain had not yet developed its own style and was still in America s shadow. Britain was
dominated by 1950 s fashion and traditional values. But there were elements of change developing
in radio, TV and theatre and this is what I m going to explore.
At the beginning of the 1960 s music was still heavily influenced by America. During the 1950 s
everyone was listening to Elvis Presley but by the late 1950 s / early 60 s new elements entered
the music industry including new British artists. In 1959 Billy Fury, Cliff Richard and Adam Faith
all appeared in the charts. They started to produce records basing their songs and styles on Elvis
and his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jackie Kennedy became a new fashion icon, wearing shifts and A line dresses which had been
designed in 1954/5 but not worn till 1960. They soon became popular. It gave women a new
sense of freedom and allowed them to dress in their own way. Mary Quant opened her first shop in
Carnaby Street which soon became very popular. She opened the way for a new generation of
British fashion.
The third type of popular culture controlled by America was film. The British film industry was in
decline. Most films in the cinema were American, such as West Side Story and Psycho . A new
brand of film featuring pop stars interested lots of teenagers. 1960 saw the start of something new
in cinema, the Carry On films. They showed a new British humour which people had never seen in
films before. Other films were gritty and realistic, that showed the working class and set the scene
for what was to come.
In Britain, radio was also starting to show are more distinctive style. It became one of the main
sources of entertainment with shows like The Goon Show . This surreal comedy became very
popular. Another well liked radio show was Beyond the Fringe , a satirical comedy that criticized
the way the country was run in a light hearted comedic way. But this made people think more about
politics and changed the way people thought.
TV was also starting to become very popular

Why Unsecured Loans Charge Higher Interest Rates
When shopping for a loan, borrowers typically have to choose between secured and unsecured
loans. Secured loans are backed by one or more assets that the lender can seize and sell to recover
at least part of the loan if the borrower defaults. Unsecured loans do not require collateral, but these
types of loans can carry extremely high interest rates.
Why Unsecured Loans Charge Higher Interest Rates to Avoid the Need for Collateral
If a borrower has collateral that he or she can use to secure a loan, the lender can feel more
confident that the loan will be repaid. A mortgage is a type of secured loan; the home is the
collateral, and if the borrower does not make payments, the lender can foreclose and sell the house
to recoup all or most of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A borrower with excellent credit and collateral will pay less than a borrower with excellent credit
and no collateral. A borrower with poor credit and collateral will pay more than a borrower with
the same collateral and excellent credit. However, unsecured bad credit loans typically carry the
highest interest rates among all types of personal loans.
Are Loans Without Collateral Available for People with Poor Credit?
There are many lenders who offer unsecured bad credit loans. However, whether borrowers are
seeking loans without collateral, credit cards, mortgages or car loans, more lenders are willing to
deal with people who have good credit than are willing to loan money to people with impaired
credit. Furthermore, more lenders are willing to make secured loans than unsecured loans, and
since the underwriting process is essentially the same regardless of the loan amount, lenders also
prefer to make high dollar loans. Few lenders, however, issue high dollar unsecured loans.
What all of this means is that borrowers options are somewhat limited when it comes to unsecured
bad credit loans. While these types of loans are certainly available, the choice of lenders may be
restricted, the interest rates will be higher and the loan amounts will be relatively

The Headstrong Historian By Kurt Vonnegut
A short story about a dystopian future in which everyone is equal and a short story about a Nigerian
family reclaiming their history, on the surface, seem unalike, but Kurt Vonnegut s Harrison
Burgeron and Chimanda Ngozi Adichie s The Headstrong Historian bear a strong resemblance
when further examined. Harrison Burgeron and The Headstrong Historian , while seemingly
different stories, share many similar themes and ideas. While Harrison Bergeronmainly considers
people s concept of equality this is not the central theme of The Headstrong Historian . They both
delve into the theme of oppression.
Vonnegut wrote Harrison Burgeron in 1961 while Adichie wrote The Headstrong Historian in 2008.
Vonnegut s short storywas written in the midst of the Cold War, suggesting a potential connection
to the ideas of communism and socialism. Adichie is a writer famous for her work in which she
closely examines African culture. On a surface level, these stories could not seem more different.
Harrison Burgeron and the Headstrong Historian obviously have completely different settings.
The beginning of Harrison Burgeron informs the reader that it takes place in the United States in
the year 2081. The majority of The Headstrong Historian takes place in West Africa in the late
1800s and early 1900s. Harrison Burgeron takes place in a society where change seems to be
nowhere in sight. In The Headstrong Historian , Nwamgba finds herself in a world that increasingly

Aratus Shift In The Mangrove Tree Crabs
As the world around us warms, places that originally were too cold for certain species become their
new ideal habitat. Sometimes however, animals and plants that once inhabited the same area move
at different speeds, creating new interspecies interactions. Mangrove tree crabs, Aratus pisonii,
originally inhabited only the natural range of the mangrove tree. The current range of the mangrove
tree along the East coast starts at Jacksonville, Florida and continues south. Aratus depends on the
mangrove not only for shelter, but for their main food source as well. The crabs remain in the trees,
traveling vertically during high tide to avoid aquatic predation. Mangroves act as protection for the
shoreline, catching and holding sediment with their... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both treatments were set up in the mangrove and salt marsh environments and left alone for an
hour. Upon returning, researchers recorded the number of Aratus eaten and those with missing legs.
Predation rates in both mangroves and salt marshes were higher when crabs were submerged than
when unsubmerged, revealing higher aquatic predation in both environments. Leg detachment rates
were higher in both salt marsh treatments. Smith theorizes that the difference is due to the crab
body width to substrate width ratio. Mangroves are thicker than spartina grass, providing Aratus
with more shelter and areas to retreat to when pursued. Aratus in salt marshes, however, have a
higher body to substrate width ratio, allowing for both easier spotting by prey and fewer places to
retreat to. Additionally, there is a greater area for escape on the mangrove trees than on spartina
grass. Instead of being restricted to downward movement into the predator filled waters, Aratus
exhibit the ability to move upward into the mangrove

Essay Comparing Romeo And Juliet Capulet
Juliet Capulet, the heroine of Romeo and Juliet, and Yukiko Amagi, a playable character from the
Persona 4 series, are two very different characters who could not be in a more indistinguishable
situation. The two individuals grew up very similarly, have comparable personalities, and learn to
live for themselves. In a like manner, both characters commence to realize that they must live and
make decisions for themselves. In a similar fashion, Juliet and Yukiko s personalities have a strong
resemblance to each other leading to their feelings and actions to correspond to one anothers . By
the same token, the young girls were both raised in a rich family with a prestigious background.
Both Juliet and Yukiko families love them unconditionally. Both families would definitely not
support their daughter s decision, but instead of disowning their children would still love them.
Therefore, instead of saying and acting equivalent to You betrayed us! I think they would try to
change their decisions. Yukiko and Juliet are polite, care about their family, and are generally good
people. Another trait that the two young women have in common is that they both have the idea
stuck in their head that they need someone else to be happy, and the two girls thinking that they

Wilkerson Company Manufactured Water Purification Equipment
Wilkerson Case Wilkerson Company, led by Robert Parker as president, has struggled with profit
margin. Parker and other high level employees evaluated the company in an attempt to find the
reason behind lack of success. Wilkerson Company manufactured water purification equipment.
This includes valves, pumps, and flow controllers. The process of manufacturing and assembling
items was assessed using the activity based costing method. They conducted a test studying the
application of direct labor, direct material, and overhead costs. Wilkerson faced multiple
competitive situations that handcuffed them to the rest of the industry. They encountered
decreasing pre tax margins bottoming out at less than 3%, much below the historical margins of
10%. They battled this by raising prices by 10%, without losing any business. They were able to
keep business because of the increasing opportunities selling flow controllers. Shortly after,
competitors reduced prices on pumps. As a result, Parker had no choice but to match reduced
prices on this precious commodity to maintain high volume of sales. On the plus Wilkerson
established a loyal customer base because of the high quality of their valves. They also have the
proper equipment and labor to produce the new valve and flow controllers. The current method of
their costsystem does not provide and accurate representation of the actual cost to produce the 3
products. Wilkerson should deal with overhead costs through products

Summary Of Intellectual Pinching And Suffering By Annie...
There can be no doubt that Annie Tindley is an outstanding academic, her work concerning the
historiography of the rural areas and populace of Scotland has been celebrated by Scottish history
academics. Her article, Actual pinching and suffering : Estate Responses to Poverty in Sutherland
1845 86 is no exception to this outstanding career. In this piece of academic literature, Dr. Tindley
has written an effective piece that strikes against the academic status quo when viewing the life of
rural Highland Scots in the period between the Highland Famine and the Crofters War. Specifically
the piece analyses the economic and political woes of the Sutherland estate of the remote northwest
of Scotland. She claims that popular thought... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

highland populace in the 19th century, she is the only one whom wrights and analyses their
treatment during the time between the famine and the Crofter s War (roughly 1856 1882). other
scholars who research a similar subject usually focus on either side of this era, ignoring this time
almost completely. Tildey however analysis this period as the brewing of such malcontent against
the crofter community that would spark such an event as the Crofter s War. In this way, it would
be best to rank this piece of academia as an underground success, not exact ally ground breaking but

Nuclear Weapons And The Cold War
The development of nuclear weapons helped to end World War II, but in turn created their own war
between the United States and the Soviet Union. The development of modified military missiles
such as the Intercontinental Ballistic Missile, or ICBM, by Americans and the Soviets, had an
impact on the struggle of power of the Cold War. The importance of military involvement in the
creation of modified missiles and engines were critical events of the Cold War. Additionally, the
steps taken to get to space were a byproduct of this Arms Race and the Cold War. Because the

The laboratory would be constructed in Los Alamos, New Mexico and was given the name Los
Alamos Laboratory, or LAL. Oppenheimer was entrusted to design not one, but two different
bombs. The successful result of these efforts was observed after the building and design of the
fission bomb, also known as atomic bomb or atom bomb, when a field test was required to assess
the new plutonium bomb implosion design.
The first test of a fission bomb was done on Monday, July 16, 1945, in the Jornada del Muerto
desert in New Mexico, at 5:29:45 A.M., Mountain War Time. This was the test of a plutonium
bomb that was given the code name Trinity. The need to avoid sending more ground troops
further into Japan was a priority because it was becoming clear that the Japanese forces were
fighting more fiercely the closer American forces got to the home islands. Invading and seizing
Japanese territories was not easily accomplished because of the 1941 Code of the Japanese
Soldier that required victory or death. Hence, the public became aware of the true story about
what the bright light and tremor of shock waves that encompassed a 160 mile radius of the Trinity
test site truly was when President Harry S. Truman ordered the drop of its second nuclear bomb
that detonated over Hiroshima, Japan on August 6, 1945. The second nuclear bomb was the second
design that the LAL, under the direction of Oppenheimer, had been working on. The

that the crystals are very large. Rose quartz forms when magma is pushed up to the surface of the
earth and begins to cool and crystallize. The reason that rose quartz crystals often become so large
is because the crystals do not stop forming until the magma has completely cooled which
sometimes make the crystals grow to very large

Everythingis Bigger In Texas. This Phrase Has Been Said
Everything is bigger in Texas. This phrase has been said or hear at least once by every person in
Texas. Even tourists poke fun at the phrase when they get a chance. Texas is known for the
cowboys, saddle, and horses. Although these are just stereotypes, they are slightly true. Texas
loves its horses, but it also loves it pride. Like many states, it has a long history before it joined the
US. Texasis also a state with many political differences, but it is based around one particular
political culture. Political culture is like a culture itself; many beliefs and habits blended into one
single community, but involving politics. Texas especially, has a variety of international beliefs, but
its politics mainly revolves around one subculture.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is one of the reasons why it has many political views, still until this day. However, as stated
before, it is still dominated by the will to protect personal welfare, and no government intervention.
In class, we had discussed how Texas is individualistic because of its independence traits. Daniel
Elazar describes Texas a the lone star; they are getting help from the government, but in the end,
they prefer to be free of control. One enormous example is the right open carry. Texas is perhaps
the state who exercises this right the most. In 1955, the act was carried and boy, did Texas loved
this law. They felt independent, and like if they were their own protection. They did not need
any form of police force, or the under thought that the government was there to help them. They
were in control of their safety, and will act upon any dangerous encounter. Furthermore, Texas
also love to put that sign, Trespassers will be shot . It is not uncommon to hear a case in court in
which an intruder was shot by a shotgun by the owner, and the citizen is protected by law. There
is a national presumption that Texas loves guns, and they aren t far off. However, guns is a
symbol of freedom, and the feeling to be free from any sort of protection of law enforcement is a
breather for Texans.
Texas is also individualistic in the way that it supports private business, and individual

Effects Of Social Media Addiction
Forest park students slowly wonder through the halls trying to make it to their next class. They are
oblivious to their surroundings because of their eyes glued to their social media apps on their
phones. It almost looks like they are zombies feeding their social media brains with their phones.
Every day students show the addiction to social media. Social media addiction is when people
cannot go a long time without going on social media. An example of social media addiction
would be a kid constantly checking their snapchat every few minutes for long periods of time.
Social media addictions is a very important and serious topic, which also comes with its effects on
people. Some include, health risks to the brain, social issues, and behavioral issues.
You may be surprised to know that according to a 2012 study posted on the national institutes
website, Internet Addiction disorder (IAD) ruins lives by causing neurological complications,
physiological disturbances, and social problems. This statistic shows that there are truly some bad
health issues that can come from feeding this to your brain. Just by going on your phone to look
at social media can cause very bad health problems, which seems like a small thing to do but that
sat shows it really does have a big effect.
To find out more about this, a reporter interviewed Kris Iwinski who is a 8th grade students mom

Essay on Clinical Practice Have Been Revolutionised by PCR
Summary: Two decades after its discovery PCR have completely changed clinical practice. PCR
is a gold standard method for detecting and identifying pathogen. By observing viral load it allows
to predict disease progression and therefore design a better treatment. It is allowing non invasive
prenatal diagnosis of many genetic defects. There are few limitations however at the rate PCR is
advancing, no doubt in future whole clinical practice will be dependent on PCR.
Background: Polymerase Chain reaction (PCR) is an in vitro process that enables exponential
amplification of the define target DNA sequence. The process involves three steps: denaturation,
annealing and elongation. In the first step, the reaction mixture containing target ... Show more

Method: PubMed Central (The U.S. National Institution of Health) has been used predominantly as
a source of primary literature. Some secondary literature has been used for definitions and to
advance the understanding the methods of PCR. Search engine also have been used throughout the

Discussion: Prenatal diagnosis of sickle cell anaemia is one of the applications of PCR with high
sensitivity and specificity. Before the advancement of PCR, it used to take several weeks to
perform hybridization with a probe by using southern blot but now this is done within 24 hours.(3)
PCR also can be employed for the prenatal diagnosis of ОІ thalassemia , phenylketouria,
haemophilia and cystic fibrosis.

Kendrick Lamar s Music And Music
Kendrick Lamar has lyrics that are hard, but within those lyrics is a description of his childhood
which was even harder. To provide some background on Kendrick Lamar, he grew up in Piru
territory of Compton, also know as Bompton. His parents both used drugs, and listened to many
different types of music ranging from, Jazz and blues to gangsta rap. Any hip hop fan should be
familiar with Kendrick s name, they should also be familiar with his music. The fact that Kendrick
Lamar isn t being recognized as a legend this early in his career slightly upsets me.
Kendrick Lamar s newer music is underappreciated because of the unique sound and thought
provoking lyrics. Many people don t listen to music for the full experience; they just listen for
some background noise. According to a study published by Edison Research, in May 2014,
52.1% of the music listened to by Americans every day is on the Radio. To think that over half of
the music heard every day is probably coming from car speakers, a dusty radio on your grandfather

to music on the radio normally don t concentrate on the music. Music is typically used to
accompany a mundane task, or another source of entertainment, like a puzzle. It is also very
common to listen to music while working. And while listening to music while doing other tasks isn

Case Study Of Heinz
BRAND HEINZ Heinz
Introduction:
Till a few years back the fast food market in INDIA was not a very prominent industry mostly
because there were less of fast food joints and disposable incomes. But with the growth of both
these elements the fast food market in India received a boost. Fast food and ketchup are directly
proportional to one another. The sweet and tangy taste provided by ketchup adds to the entire
experience of a delicious or finger licking meal. Thus the rise in the demand for fast food has
resulted in the rise in the demand for ketchup in INDIA. According to a recent survey, it is
estimated that Indians spend about Rs.4,449 crore a year in fast food centres.

Verdict on Positioning:
After studying all the above aspects I found Positioning of Heinz Ketchup in India is CORRECT .
Earlier, their positioning of product was not right and they were not concentrating on their POP s
and POD as their value proposition was Redder Thicker and Tastier which is very common in today

Heinz Ketchup Brand is getting up in market after its new campaign Grown Not Made .

developing countries such as India, so there is a tremendous growth opportunity for ready meal
manufacturers. Hence, company should also introduce new varieties of ketchup to enhance its

During the Elizabethan period, revenge tragedies were the leading form of drama commonly
utilized by Shakespeare, despite the morals of the time renouncing it in essence. Because of the
nature of revenge, it is often said that before embarking on this journey it is best to dig two
graves; in Titus Andronicus, widely considered the bloodiest of Shakespeare s revenge tragedies,
this adage connects perfectly with the theme of the plots. Shakespeare unfolds a series of revenge
that the play reads like a horror film in many ways with overtly gratuitous violence plaguing almost
every scene. Involves violence against each character in the play, Shakespeare communicating his
own beliefs about seeking vengeance. Through various literary techniques,

Supernatural Show Research Paper
It s late at night and you are up with your friends telling scary ghost stories or daring them to do
the classic game Bloody Mary. Eventually the fun ends sending you back into reality until you turn
on one of the best supernatural shows or movies out there escaping once more. Supernatural shows
and movies are all good , but the best share similar qualities.
In order for a supernatural show to be the best it needs to have some form of forbidden love. One
example of this is in The Vampire Diariesbetween two characters, Elena Gilbert and Stefan
Salvatore. Stefan is a vampire through the show and soon falls in love with Elena who is a human.
A human and vampire being in love is forbidden or frowned upon in supernatural shows and
movies. Another example is in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the show charmed Piper one of the three sisters and her husband who is a whitelighters child
Wyatt Halliwell soon develops powers out of the nowhere. What makes Wyatt s so interesting is
he s a mix between a witch and a whitelighter. Another example takes place in the show
Supernatural. Sam Winchester was given blood from a demon when he was a baby , and now
years later he begins to crave demon blood. Soon Sam finds out when he drinks the blood from a
demon he gets the ability to pull demons out of human bodies with just his mind and hands.
This happening made viewers even more on the edge of their seats waiting for more. Witches of
East End is a popular show based on witches . When one of the main characters Freya develops
powers it s not so much a shock, but makes the show more interesting. When supernatural shows
have a character unexpectedly develop powers it makes them one of the best. These are examples

Lack Of Diversity In Higher Education
Last week I had the privilege of joining President Obama and the first lady at a White House
summit designed to spur efforts to make sure that higher education serves as an engine of upward
mobility rather than a replicator of inequality. One hundred college presidents came with formal
pledges in hand, committing time and resources to strategies to improve access and success of
disadvantaged young adults. The three heads of California s public systems all attended, including
the Universityof California s new system president, former Homeland Security Secretary Janet
Napolitano.
Just weeks on the job, Napolitano was the first participant to directly and explicitly own up to the
racial undercurrent to the discussion. UC s enrollment of low income students is impressive, but
the inadequate representation of Latino and African American students is a real problem. Seeming
fully in command of the subject matter, Napolitano lamented the ripple effect this lack of diversity
will have at all colleges because of the role UC plays in preparing the future faculty members who
will serve as mentors to the next generation of students at campuses far beyond UC. ... Show more

Overconsumption Of Antibiotics
Why does the over prescription of antibiotic medication lead to a negative economic and societal
outcome?
Increasing bacterial resistance to antibiotic treatments has become a worldwide issue over the
last 20 years as consumer and general practitioner s incentives for a quick fix to minor illnesses
have caused a negative externality for the consumption of antibiotics. A negative externality in this
example is when a third party, in this case, society as a whole, is adversely affected by the
overconsumption of antibiotics, due to greater bacterial resistance, causing more advanced diseases
that pose a greater risk to the health of a society. The roles played by consumers, doctors and
pharmaceutical manufacturers will be discussed in detail ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Most antibiotics require a prescription from a medical professional such as a general practitioner or
specialist. According to research published in the Medical Journal of Australia during 2017: GP s
have been prescribing antibiotics nine times more often than what the guidelines state. Doctors, like
consumers, are driven by their own incentives. There is a strong incentive for GP s to prescribe
antibiotics to patients which may not necessarily require them, due to the pressure on a doctor s
time to attend to as many patients as possible. Therefore, doctors can be incentivised to undertake
the simplest solution, rather than sacrifice the amount of patients that they see in order to explore
other methods of treatment. Doctor s incentives tend to be skewed towards offering treatment to
patients, rather than focusing on decreasing the big picture societal negative externality. Another
example of an externality on the healthcare system is that amplified antibiotic resistance increases
medical costs, as more expensive, potent antibiotics are required to combat stronger bacteria and
infections.
In the United States, Pharmaceutical companies spend over $1 billion each year on direct to
consumer advertising for antibiotic prescriptions, shifting away from traditional advertisements for
physicians in medical journals, towards newspapers and consumer magazines. This marketing
strategy has bolstered consumer demand hugely and it poses a problem, as consumers are now
heavily swayed by private institutions who have their own incentive for maximizing profits.
In order to combat the issues discussed in this essay, a potential solution involves the
implementation of economic incentives for drug manufacturers, consumers and doctors, employed
by policy

Recruiting Challenges in the Public Sector
December 22, 2008
Final Project: Recruiting Challenges in the Public Sector There are rules, regulations and
ordinances that all guide the recruiting process in the public sector; however, in my opinion these
challenges just interfere with a governmental agencies ability to hire the best and most qualified
new employees. As an example, a couple of the solutions that I think will help the public sector s
recruiting process are 1) making the application process more simplistic, 2) targeting younger
workers by working with universities and colleges and 3) developing a workforce strategy. The
public sector has a lot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When it comes to recruiting in the private sector, there are a few guidelines that you might
reference here and there, but by and large recruiting is done without interference. The process
seems fairly simple; you develop a job description, establish a salary structure and place an
advertisement. There are no testing requirements or mandates that you need to satisfy to be able to
hire a new employee. Along with this the time it takes to recruit someone in the private sector takes
only as long as it takes to get a qualified applicant to apply for a position and interview for the job.
Interviewing is straight forward and although an applicant might go through two or three
interviews, before being offered the position, there is no one outside the organization telling the
organization how to recruit and how to hire a qualified applicant. Recruiting in the public sector is
so much more complex than it is in the private sector. In the public sector many positions have
testing requirements built into them. This means that you must test the candidates that meet the
minimum qualifications, which at times means you test over 100 people with some positions, and
with some positions within the Fire and Police Departments; this means that there could be well
over 1,000 applicants to test. The testing process various by positions, for

The Controversy On Iran s Nuclear Program
I.
Topic Description
Iran s Nuclear Program
The Islamic Republic of Iran s conquest for nuclear energy technology commenced during the
1950 s, inspired by U.S President Dwight Eisenhower s program called Atoms for Peace . This
program fabricated a plan in which the U.S Atomic Energy Commission would lend Iran as much
as 13.2 pounds of low enriched uranium in order to further develop their nuclear industries,
including health care and medicine.i Two years following the agreement, Shah Mohammed Reza
Pahlavi established the Tehran Nuclear Research Center at the Tehran University, and the United

It became known in the 1990 s that Iran had certainly renewed their civilian nuclear projects, and
Western tension continued to increase following 2002 and 2003 reports that Iran began clandestine
research into fuel enrichment and conversion. This sparked international controversy over the
intentions behind Iran s nuclear program beyond civilian or peaceful purposes. For example, the
Isfahan Nuclear Technology Center is suspected to house Iran s nuclear weapons programs, and is
also the alleged location of Iran s uranium conversion efforts.iv It is estimated that as many as 366
tons of uranium hexafluoride has been produced since 2004. This is then fed into centrifuges at
another key site: the Natanz enrichment facility.
Still, Iran continuously denies that its nuclear objectives are to construct atomic weapons, but a
large majority of the international community remains skeptical to the legitimacy of this claim
due to the secrecy of Iran s productions and their refusal to cooperate with the IAEA on several
notable occasions. However, in defense over the concerns pertaining to the secrecy of Iran s
program, Iran s former ambassador to the United Nations, Mohammed Javad Zarif, claims Western
tension and dwindling support for Iran s early nuclear energy programs forced Tehran with no
choice but to continue their nuclear activities in a discreet matter. Zarif wrote in Colombia

Analysis Of Junot Diaz s The Dreamer
The Cost of Education
Life is a constant roller coaster ride of grueling struggles and bittersweet accomplishments. There
are also times where one neither wins nor loses, but lessons are always learned. What we do
during that time of strife and struggle defines who we will become later. Those who embrace the
change and hardship, while finding a way to make it through, will become stronger in the end. In
The Dreamer , by Junot Diaz, the dream of a young girl to become a nurse never comes to
fruition, but her struggles and sacrifices enabled her to move out of a Third Worldcountry. Due to
his mother s sacrifices, her son Diaz is able to live a better life, achieving his goals of becoming a
writer because she pushed him to better himself with her courage.
In The Dreamer , Diaz writes about his mother s rough childhood in a poor Third World country,
before moving to the United States. ...but she grew up one of those poor Third World Country
girls. The brutalized backbone of our world. (Diaz 128). Those of us who have never witnessed
a Third World country wouldn t really understand what it was like. To have lived through what his
mother experienced would have broken most children s spirits. The kind of Dominican girl who
was destined never to get off the mountain or out of the campo (Diaz 128). Most who are born in
the poverty stricken slums of Third World countries are destined to die there as well. In this story

The Charge Of The Light Brigade, And The Things They Carried
War is not the place for the common man; it is for the only for brave. This concept is seen in
many war stories but it is emphasized in others. Examples of these stories include The Charge of
the Light Brigade by Lord Alfred Tennyson, and Speaking of Courage from Tim O Brien s The
Things They Carried. Both stories account a war, but each occurs at a different stage; The Charge
of the Light Brigade happens at the middle of a war, while Speaking of Courage occurs as a
soldier reflects on a war. Despite these different stages of war, soldiers must have courage and
bravery to fight and survive in war. Bravery is so important in war and to the military, many
medals have been issued for bravery. However, not all medals have the same meaning and value.
Norman Bowker, a war veteran, thinks how he would explain medals, like the Purple Heart and the
Bronze Star, to his father, None of those... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In war, soldiers are often commanded to charge at the enemy without question. The Charge of
the Light Brigade specifically transpires in the Crimean War, and is about the charge of a half a
league of men. Tennyson describes the men s orders when he says, Theirs not to reason why,
/ Theirs but to do and die (Tennyson 14 15). This lack of reasoning and total trust in leadership
and instincts is a trait only seen in gallant soldiers. More than following orders, giving orders or
surviving, accepting death takes the most honor and heroism. This acceptance of death is seen
when Tennyson describes the charge, Boldly they rode and well, / Into the jaws of Death
(Tennyson 23 24). To follow an order without question that one knows will ultimately end in his
or her death is a feat beyond any form of day to day bravery. In the charge many men die, but just
because they did not survive does not mean they were not valiant; they followed an order to fight to

The Creation Of Fema And The Federal Emergency Management...
The Creation of FEMA started out as a beautiful theory. Before FEMA we had an Acts constructed
to make the situation better but FEMA was constructed to assistance the situations first hand so that
the American people were catered to at a quicker response and in a manner that was assessed for
safety situations. On April 1, 1979, President Jimmy Cartersigned the executive order that created
the Federal Emergency Management Agency(FEMA). From day one, FEMA has remained
committed to protecting and serving the American people. That commitment to the people we

Scientific Explanation Lab Report
Discussion and Scientific Explanations
During our first experiment we used blue, yellow and a mixture of blue and yellow to find their
transmission using different wavelengths. The blue peaked at 630 nm, the yellow peaked at 410
430 nm and the mixture (green) peaked at 630 nm. Results on Tables 1 3 and Graph 1. We had to
find the peak wavelength of each dye to identify the color of the solution. By using the Spec 20
machine the color or the dye that is seen depends on the wavelengths of light to see the color that is
reflected and the other colors that are absorbed [1]. By using a vision region colour wheel I can
see that because the blue peaked at 630 nm the color absorbs red light. The yellow absorbed violet
light and the mixture absorbed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also the intensity of color is related to the absorbance of light when using the Spec 20. The
intensity of the color of the compound is proportional to the absorbance of the compound. The
greater the intensity the greater the absorbance. By using the Spec 20 we could uncover an
unknown sample color by knowing a colors transmission/absorption range. We also learned that
absorbance and concentration of solutions are proportional to one another. The more concentrated
the solution the greater the light absorbed, which is proven by Diet Coke. By using a Beer s Law
Plot we can determine an unknown samples concentration by observing the absorption of the
sample [2]. The evidence of the experiment proved that the color of a compound is related to

Characterizing Amylin and Salmon Calcitonin Receptors in...
Background Amylin and Salmon Calcitonin belong to the calcitonin family of peptides and have
high affinity binding sites in the rat spinal cord. The aim of this study was to functionally
characterize receptors for Amylin and Salmon Calcitonin in the spinal cord of rats. We assessed
the expression of c fos in response to intraplantar formalin in the lumbar regions of spinal cordin
conscious rats.
Methods:
Amylin (0.05nmoles) or Salmon Calcitonin (0.005nmoles) were administrated intrathecally) 10 min
before the start of formalin test. Antagonists were injected intrathecally 10min before the
administration of either of the peptides.
Results:
Two hours after formalin stimulation, rats pretreated intrathecally by either Amylin or Salmon
Calcitonin showed lower numbers of c Fos immunoreactive nuclei in their lumbar spinal cord as
compared to rats pretreated by saline. These effects were reversed upon co administration of either
of the Amylin antagonists AC187 or rat amylin8 37, but not rat О± CGRP8 37. Few cells with c
Fos immunreactivity were found in the lumbar spinal cord of rats two hours after i.t. injection of
saline, Amylin and/or Salmon Calcitonin. However, Fos like immunoreactivity was increased in
the lumbar spinal cord two hours after i.t. treatment of either of the antagonists AC187 and rat
amylin8 37when compared to saline treated rats.
Conclusion:

which the concentration of the anions is different from one type to other. The anions that present
in the water samples include Cl , F , Br , NO32 and SO42 ; however, no PO43 anion was present in

Examples Of Ignorance In To Kill A Mockingbird
Ignorance is bliss, is a common adage that is used to justify someone s lack of information or
misunderstanding. This saying should not be used because it can lead people to be indignant or
lazy. When anyone chooses to avoid or ignore a situation because they do not understand it, this can
create more problems than originally had. The residents of Maycomb create issues and
complications from their ignoranceand indignance. In the book, To Kill a Mockingbirdby Harper

The book was taken place in 1933 when racial tensions were high. This is clearly seen through the
common use of racial slurs and treatment of african americans in the book. An example of this is ...

Compare Contrast Tready Signing at Medicine Creek Lodge

John Taylor s illustration for Leslie s Illustrated Gazette is more naturalistic than representational

The lack of scale makes the tipis, trees, horse and Native Americans look about the same size.
Howling Wolf shows the convergence of the Arkansas River and Medicine Creek because that s
where the tribes were encamped and that is his main focus. One big difference between Howling
Wolf s version and John Taylor s version is that Howling Wolf shows a large number of married
Native American women, identified by a red stripe down the back of their heads, at the treaty
signing. They sit with their backs to the viewer, their attention focused on the signing ceremony
before them . (Sayre) This illustrates the importance of women in Native American culture. By
using iconology, Howling Wolf identifies each individual by the symbols on their clothes and
tipis. I believe he also uses iconology when focusing on the grove where the signing took place.
There is a Native American man holding the treaty and crying, an Anglo American holding a pen in
the face of another Native American as if to say, you better sign! Even the Anglo American holding
the horse has symbolism, whereas the horse wants to be freed, but is being held captive.
In conclusion, the time difference between the two works doesn t seem to be a big factor in the
different renderings of the treaty signings because even after that length of time Howling Wolf
seems to remember specific details, even if they are completely different from Taylor s view.

Byrd, a wealthy Virginia planter, did in both his social and private sides of life, as well as what
prompted him to write the various statements in his diary. At first glance, William Byrd II gave
me the impression of a spoiled, rich boy who feels he can do as he pleases. In reality, he did do
what he pleased since he was a major Virginia planter and owner of many slaves. His hard work
consisted of writing letters to England or talking to the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is evident when his wife Lucy makes an entrance when she should not or performs some
sort of disobedient act towards William, which results in him appearing less of a man to his
male company. Lucy probably recognized this and continued to embarrass William whenever
she was not getting the attention she deserved, or when she had simply had enough of William
and his commanding mode of behavior. William gives as much attention to his children as he
does to Lucy; little to none. I have come to see his journal entries as highlights of his day. Lucy
is in a few of his entries, but mainly because they were having an argument and it stayed with
William all day. As for his children, well unless they are sick or wet the bed, then they never do
anything worthy to William. Besides the fact that he ignores his family, what else could he have
been doing all day that he did not write about? For example, maybe there was some activity or
routine, but because it did not strike him as important, he did not write about it. He does routinely
write about what he ate for breakfast and the time he woke up, but other than that, it is whatever he
found important that day, which for the most part is not interesting to me at all. Although Byrd is
pictured as a well built man, I see him as a larger, pudgier man, both

Patient 1 Mike was an active baseball and football player in high school. Now at the age of 36, he
is still a professional athlete wannabe. He has dislocated his shoulder many times, but even after
several hip injuries, he has never dislocated his hip.
a.Compare and contrast the anatomical physiology of the shoulder joint and the hip joint.
The shoulder and hip are considered ball and socket joints. In the shoulder, the ball of the humerus
fits into the socket formed by the shoulder blade. In the hip, the ball of the femur fits into the socket
of the pelvis. These joints allow the motion in the body. Also, the shoulder joint and the joint are
both synovial joints (diarthroses), meaning they both consists of:

Leadership Secrets Of Colin Powell
Introduction
The book, Leadership Secrets of Colin Powell by Oren Harari provides an interesting overview
of the leadership exhibited by one of the globally known bottom line leaders in the United States.
The exceptional perspective on the role leadership plays is provided in the book, using Powell as
the case study. From the perspective provided by the author, the leader is revealed as one who was
able to portray successful leadership within the military, although it is a place in which is hard to
achieve side by side leadership. On the contrary, Powell is able to demonstrate that leadership is
more about responsibility and accountability as opposed to privilege and rank. It is all about
complete commitment towards a common mission, portraying audacity and determination,
evaluation of standards of performance, attending to details, overcoming the status quo, and
empowering followers.
Discussion of the Book s Contents
Leadership Secrets of Colin Powell contains words, wisdom and insights of one of the most
influential figures in the history of America, Colin Powell. It is a source of inspirations from his
humble beginning in Harlem to becoming the Secretary of State. The book provides a
background of his birth and upbringing, but more importantly his success story as a leader. His
journey in leadership is vividly described in the book, rising through the military ranks to
becoming the chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Being wise and determined, the leader rose to be

Taking a Look at BioMarin
1. Background
BioMarin is a biotechnology company headquartered in Novato, California and with operations in
Europe, South America, USA and Asia. BioMarin originally began developing carbohydrate
enzymes for rare diseases. Their first candidate drug was AldurazymeВ® which is currently being
used to treat patients of Mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS I). MPS I patient census consists of about
3,400 patients in developed countries; 1,000 of which reside in the United States of America.
Because of the rare nature of this condition and the rareness of other conditions being treated by
BioMarin, they are considered an orphan drug company. Receiving orphan drug designation has
resulted in BioMarin gaining certain advantages from the FDA such as: seven year exclusive
period on marketing after a drug has been approved and tax incentives. As such, BioMarin has
not necessarily faced competition in the therapeutic areas of their approved products. BioMarin
was founded as a subsidiary of Glyko Biomedical in 1996 and started operations in 1997. While
Glyko provided the initial start up funds, BioMarin also sold 2.5 million common stock to its
founders. The company has a history of success in fundraising. Examples of some key financing
activities experienced a few years after inception include private placements to independent
investors and Glyko Biomedical in 1999 worth $26 million and a 50:50 joint venture with
Genzyme in 1998 worth $30 million. BioMarin raised a combined sum of $58 million

Women s Role In Big-Budget Films
Amanda Seyfried once said, A few years ago, on one of my big budget films, I found I was being
paid 10 percent of what my male co star was getting, and we were pretty even in status
When negotiating pay, if a woman stands up for what they want, they ll come across as bratty and
risk losing their part but when a man does it they re considered fierce. In 2015 Jennifer Lawrence
earned $52 million, making her the highest paid actress in the world. Robert Downey Jr., the
highest paid actor, made $80 million that same year.
After the Sony Hack, Jennifer Lawrence wrote an essay for Lenny Letter an online feminist
newsletter. A group known as the Guardians of Peace hacked Sony and leaked confidential
information. Specifically, the hack revealed the pay of the stars of American Hustle. Bradley
Cooper, Christian Bale, and Jeremy Renner each earned 9% of the film s profits while Jennifer
Lawrence and Amy Adams both earned 7%. The difference may not seem like much but why were
only the women ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By doing this, it won t make a difference for an actor or actress to make a powerful deal. If an
actress wants to fight for equal pay then she should be able to without losing a role or being called
a spoiled brat.
Charlize Theron fought and received equal pay for the sequel to Snow White and the Huntsman.
Both her and Chris Hemsworth earned $10 million. Because of what happened with American
Hustle, to be symbolic, Jennifer Lawrence negotiated for $20 million in Passengers while Chris
Pratt earned $12 million. There are still many more negotiations to come. A world with more
powerful women in the media industry who are unafraid to negotiate well is the kind of world we
need to live in.
The Hollywood pay gap is just a fraction of the gender inequality issues we face today. If we can
change the way we think about actresses, the difference in pay won t be one of those issues. This
would be a huge step in the right

Analysis Of Flaubert s Madame Bovary
In Madame Bovary, Flaubert writes a couple of major moments in very brief and plain ways.
What Flaubert does for these moments is build up our expectations of what we think is going to
happen long before it actually occurs so that when the moment nears, he can make the current
buildup and the moment itself quick and plain. This is so that we are emotionally detached
from it and the character s experience and ours do not mix. One passage where this happens is
near the beginning of part 3, on page 208, where Emma is having a conversation with Leon. The
passage is With a slight shrug, Emma interrupted him to lament the illness during which she had
nearly died; what a shame! she would no longer be suffering now. Leon immediately envied the
tranquillity of the grave, and one night he had even written his will, requesting that he be buried
in that beautiful coverlet, with its bands of velvet, that she had given him; for this was the way
they would have liked to be they were both creating for themselves an ideal against which they
were not adjusting their past lives. Besides. speech is a rolling press that always amplifies one s
emotions. But at this invention concerning the coverlet: Why? she asked. Why? . He hesitated.
Because I loved you so much! And, applauding himself for having gotten past the difficult part,
Leon watched her expression from the corner of his eye. Leon s confession is heavily set up by the
passages that came before it instead of sentences

Louis Xiv Declaration Of The Rights Of Woman
The Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen and the Declaration of the Rights of Woman
declares equal rights to all citizens. As outlined in point 3 in the Declaration of the Rights of
Man and Citizen : The source of all sovereignty resides essentially in the nation; no group, no
individual may exercise authority not emanating expressly therefrom (4/6). This statement
shows that power is to be exercise by the people and their representatives, and clearly challenged
the current rule of the Louis XIV as an absolute monarch. In The King s Declaration , he
criticizes the inefficiency and the accumulation of power of the assemblies and explains in
different parts of his declaration that his rule as a monarch is important and essential for the well
being of France. As Louis XIV points out in The King s Declaration , The does not think it is
possible to govern a kingdom of such great extent and importance as France though the means
established by the National Assembly, as they existed at present (12). Louis XIV denies the
National Assembly any kind final decision making power but he rather sees himself as the final
authority in France and therefore also denies equal rights to every citizen.... Show more content on

  • 2. The Ankh Research Paper To the best of my knowledge, the Ankh is an Egyptian symbol standing for protection. I know that it is a popular symbol when it comes to amulets or necklaces, as well as bracelet charms. Other than that I have seen it in several films with pharaohs, who keep it in their hand or look at it. The Ankh is part of the Egyptian culture. There are theories amongst scholars that it pre dates the time of the pharaohs, but that is just theory for now. Ankh is the hieroglyph for life or the universe as a whole and there is no further definition on what life means here exactly. The symbol is shaped like Tau or a looped cross and is thought to be the oldest and most widespread cross that we know of. Other names include crux ansata, or simply cross... We can find the ankh on sun discs where it is also related to the king s authority and during purification or libation rituals an ankh vessel was used. In depictions of these rituals the two divinities pour water over the king, but the water is depicted by chains of ankh symbols. The earth element is represented by food or more specifically grain as it was connected to living, you can t live without food and in hieroglyphic texts the symbols for food and ankh are often shown ... • 3. Popular Culture at the Beginning of the 1960 s Essay Popular Culture at the Beginning of the 1960 s 1960 s Britain had not yet developed its own style and was still in America s shadow. Britain was dominated by 1950 s fashion and traditional values. But there were elements of change developing in radio, TV and theatre and this is what I m going to explore. At the beginning of the 1960 s music was still heavily influenced by America. During the 1950 s everyone was listening to Elvis Presley but by the late 1950 s / early 60 s new elements entered the music industry including new British artists. In 1959 Billy Fury, Cliff Richard and Adam Faith all appeared in the charts. They started to produce records basing their songs and styles on Elvis and his ... They soon became popular. It gave women a new sense of freedom and allowed them to dress in their own way. Mary Quant opened her first shop in Carnaby Street which soon became very popular. She opened the way for a new generation of British fashion. The third type of popular culture controlled by America was film. The British film industry was in decline. Most films in the cinema were American, such as West Side Story and Psycho . A new brand of film featuring pop stars interested lots of teenagers. 1960 saw the start of something new in cinema, the Carry On films. They showed a new British humour which people had never seen in films before. Other films were gritty and realistic, that showed the working class and set the scene for what was to come. In Britain, radio was also starting to show are more distinctive style. It became one of the main sources of entertainment with shows like The Goon Show . This surreal comedy became very popular. Another well liked radio show was Beyond the Fringe , a satirical comedy that criticized the way the country was run in a light hearted comedic way. But this made people think more about politics and changed the way people thought. TV was also starting to become very popular ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Why Unsecured Loans Charge Higher Interest Rates When shopping for a loan, borrowers typically have to choose between secured and unsecured loans. Secured loans are backed by one or more assets that the lender can seize and sell to recover at least part of the loan if the borrower defaults. Unsecured loans do not require collateral, but these types of loans can carry extremely high interest rates. Why Unsecured Loans Charge Higher Interest Rates to Avoid the Need for Collateral If a borrower has collateral that he or she can use to secure a loan, the lender can feel more confident that the loan will be repaid. A mortgage is a type of secured loan; the home is the collateral, and if the borrower does not make payments, the lender can foreclose and sell the house to recoup all or most of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A borrower with excellent credit and collateral will pay less than a borrower with excellent credit and no collateral. A borrower with poor credit and collateral will pay more than a borrower with the same collateral and excellent credit. However, unsecured bad credit loans typically carry the highest interest rates among all types of personal loans. Are Loans Without Collateral Available for People with Poor Credit? There are many lenders who offer unsecured bad credit loans. However, whether borrowers are seeking loans without collateral, credit cards, mortgages or car loans, more lenders are willing to deal with people who have good credit than are willing to loan money to people with impaired credit. Furthermore, more lenders are willing to make secured loans than unsecured loans, and since the underwriting process is essentially the same regardless of the loan amount, lenders also prefer to make high dollar loans. Few lenders, however, issue high dollar unsecured loans. What all of this means is that borrowers options are somewhat limited when it comes to unsecured bad credit loans. While these types of loans are certainly available, the choice of lenders may be restricted, the interest rates will be higher and the loan amounts will be relatively ... • 5. The Headstrong Historian By Kurt Vonnegut A short story about a dystopian future in which everyone is equal and a short story about a Nigerian family reclaiming their history, on the surface, seem unalike, but Kurt Vonnegut s Harrison Burgeron and Chimanda Ngozi Adichie s The Headstrong Historian bear a strong resemblance when further examined. Harrison Burgeron and The Headstrong Historian , while seemingly different stories, share many similar themes and ideas. While Harrison Bergeronmainly considers people s concept of equality this is not the central theme of The Headstrong Historian . They both delve into the theme of oppression. Vonnegut wrote Harrison Burgeron in 1961 while Adichie wrote The Headstrong Historian in 2008. Vonnegut s short storywas written in the midst of the Cold War, suggesting a potential connection to the ideas of communism and socialism. Adichie is a writer famous for her work in which she closely examines African culture. On a surface level, these stories could not seem more different. Harrison Burgeron and the Headstrong Historian obviously have completely different settings. The beginning of Harrison Burgeron informs the reader that it takes place in the United States in the year 2081. The majority of The Headstrong Historian takes place in West Africa in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Harrison Burgeron takes place in a society where change seems to be nowhere in sight. • 6. Aratus Shift In The Mangrove Tree Crabs As the world around us warms, places that originally were too cold for certain species become their new ideal habitat. Sometimes however, animals and plants that once inhabited the same area move at different speeds, creating new interspecies interactions. Mangrove tree crabs, Aratus pisonii, originally inhabited only the natural range of the mangrove tree. The current range of the mangrove tree along the East coast starts at Jacksonville, Florida and continues south. Aratus depends on the mangrove not only for shelter, but for their main food source as well. The crabs remain in the trees, traveling vertically during high tide to avoid aquatic predation. Mangroves act as protection for the shoreline, catching and holding sediment with their... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both treatments were set up in the mangrove and salt marsh environments and left alone for an hour. Upon returning, researchers recorded the number of Aratus eaten and those with missing legs. Predation rates in both mangroves and salt marshes were higher when crabs were submerged than when unsubmerged, revealing higher aquatic predation in both environments. Leg detachment rates were higher in both salt marsh treatments. Smith theorizes that the difference is due to the crab body width to substrate width ratio. Mangroves are thicker than spartina grass, providing Aratus with more shelter and areas to retreat to when pursued. Aratus in salt marshes, however, have a higher body to substrate width ratio, allowing for both easier spotting by prey and fewer places to retreat to. Additionally, there is a greater area for escape on the mangrove trees than on spartina grass. Instead of being restricted to downward movement into the predator filled waters, Aratus exhibit the ability to move upward into the mangrove ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay Comparing Romeo And Juliet Capulet Juliet Capulet, the heroine of Romeo and Juliet, and Yukiko Amagi, a playable character from the Persona 4 series, are two very different characters who could not be in a more indistinguishable situation. The two individuals grew up very similarly, have comparable personalities, and learn to live for themselves. In a like manner, both characters commence to realize that they must live and make decisions for themselves. In a similar fashion, Juliet and Yukiko s personalities have a strong resemblance to each other leading to their feelings and actions to correspond to one anothers . By the same token, the young girls were both raised in a rich family with a prestigious background. Both Juliet and Yukiko families love them unconditionally. Both families would definitely not support their daughter s decision, but instead of disowning their children would still love them. Therefore, instead of saying and acting equivalent to You betrayed us! I think they would try to change their decisions. Yukiko and Juliet are polite, care about their family, and are generally good people. • 8. Wilkerson Company Manufactured Water Purification Equipment Wilkerson Case Wilkerson Company, led by Robert Parker as president, has struggled with profit margin. Parker and other high level employees evaluated the company in an attempt to find the reason behind lack of success. Wilkerson Company manufactured water purification equipment. This includes valves, pumps, and flow controllers. The process of manufacturing and assembling items was assessed using the activity based costing method. They conducted a test studying the application of direct labor, direct material, and overhead costs. Wilkerson faced multiple competitive situations that handcuffed them to the rest of the industry. They encountered decreasing pre tax margins bottoming out at less than 3%, much below the historical margins of 10%. They battled this by raising prices by 10%, without losing any business. They were able to keep business because of the increasing opportunities selling flow controllers. Shortly after, competitors reduced prices on pumps. As a result, Parker had no choice but to match reduced prices on this precious commodity to maintain high volume of sales. On the plus Wilkerson established a loyal customer base because of the high quality of their valves. They also have the proper equipment and labor to produce the new valve and flow controllers. The current method of their costsystem does not provide and accurate representation of the actual cost to produce the 3 products. Wilkerson should deal with overhead costs through products ... There can be no doubt that Annie Tindley is an outstanding academic, her work concerning the historiography of the rural areas and populace of Scotland has been celebrated by Scottish history academics. Her article, Actual pinching and suffering : Estate Responses to Poverty in Sutherland 1845 86 is no exception to this outstanding career. In this piece of academic literature, Dr. Tindley has written an effective piece that strikes against the academic status quo when viewing the life of rural Highland Scots in the period between the Highland Famine and the Crofters War. Specifically the piece analyses the economic and political woes of the Sutherland estate of the remote northwest of Scotland. She claims that popular thought... Although she does not stand alone in the study of the ill treatment of the highland populace in the 19th century, she is the only one whom wrights and analyses their treatment during the time between the famine and the Crofter s War (roughly 1856 1882). other scholars who research a similar subject usually focus on either side of this era, ignoring this time almost completely. The importance of military involvement in the creation of modified missiles and engines were critical events of the Cold War. Hence, the public became aware of the true story about what the bright light and tremor of shock waves that encompassed a 160 mile radius of the Trinity test site truly was when President Harry S. Even tourists poke fun at the phrase when they get a chance. Texas is known for the cowboys, saddle, and horses. Although these are just stereotypes, they are slightly true. Texas loves its horses, but it also loves it pride. Like many states, it has a long history before it joined the US. Texasis also a state with many political differences, but it is based around one particular political culture. Political culture is like a culture itself; many beliefs and habits blended into one single community, but involving politics. This is one of the reasons why it has many political views, still until this day. However, as stated before, it is still dominated by the will to protect personal welfare, and no government intervention. In class, we had discussed how Texas is individualistic because of its independence traits. Daniel Elazar describes Texas a the lone star; they are getting help from the government, but in the end, they prefer to be free of control. One enormous example is the right open carry. Texas is perhaps the state who exercises this right the most. In 1955, the act was carried and boy, did Texas loved this law. They felt independent, and like if they were their own protection. They did not need any form of police force, or the under thought that the government was there to help them. They were in control of their safety, and will act upon any dangerous encounter. Furthermore, Texas also love to put that sign, Trespassers will be shot . It is not uncommon to hear a case in court in which an intruder was shot by a shotgun by the owner, and the citizen is protected by law. There is a national presumption that Texas loves guns, and they aren t far off. They are oblivious to their surroundings because of their eyes glued to their social media apps on their phones. It almost looks like they are zombies feeding their social media brains with their phones. Every day students show the addiction to social media. Social media addiction is when people cannot go a long time without going on social media. An example of social media addiction would be a kid constantly checking their snapchat every few minutes for long periods of time. Social media addictions is a very important and serious topic, which also comes with its effects on people. Some include, health risks to the brain, social issues, and behavioral issues. You may be surprised to know that according to a 2012 study posted on the national institutes website, Internet Addiction disorder (IAD) ruins lives by causing neurological complications, physiological disturbances, and social problems. This statistic shows that there are truly some bad health issues that can come from feeding this to your brain. Just by going on your phone to look at social media can cause very bad health problems, which seems like a small thing to do but that sat shows it really does have a big effect. Kendrick Lamar s Music And Music Kendrick Lamar has lyrics that are hard, but within those lyrics is a description of his childhood which was even harder. To provide some background on Kendrick Lamar, he grew up in Piru territory of Compton, also know as Bompton. His parents both used drugs, and listened to many different types of music ranging from, Jazz and blues to gangsta rap. Any hip hop fan should be familiar with Kendrick s name, they should also be familiar with his music. The fact that Kendrick Lamar isn t being recognized as a legend this early in his career slightly upsets me. Kendrick Lamar s newer music is underappreciated because of the unique sound and thought provoking lyrics. Many people don t listen to music for the full experience; they just listen for some background noise. According to a study published by Edison Research, in May 2014, 52.1% of the music listened to by Americans every day is on the Radio. To think that over half of the music heard every day is probably coming from car speakers, a dusty radio on your grandfather s workbench, or that little radio tucked in a corner in your kitchen, is astounding. People that listen to music on the radio normally don t concentrate on the music. Music is typically used to accompany a mundane task, or another source of entertainment, like a puzzle. It is also very common to listen to music while working. And while listening to music while doing other tasks isn t a negative thing, people don t know what they are listening to. This ... Case Study Of Heinz BRAND HEINZ Heinz Introduction: Till a few years back the fast food market in INDIA was not a very prominent industry mostly because there were less of fast food joints and disposable incomes. But with the growth of both these elements the fast food market in India received a boost. Fast food and ketchup are directly proportional to one another. The sweet and tangy taste provided by ketchup adds to the entire experience of a delicious or finger licking meal. Thus the rise in the demand for fast food has resulted in the rise in the demand for ketchup in INDIA. Because of the nature of revenge, it is often said that before embarking on this journey it is best to dig two graves; in Titus Andronicus, widely considered the bloodiest of Shakespeare s revenge tragedies, this adage connects perfectly with the theme of the plots. • 24. Overconsumption Of Antibiotics Why does the over prescription of antibiotic medication lead to a negative economic and societal outcome? Increasing bacterial resistance to antibiotic treatments has become a worldwide issue over the last 20 years as consumer and general practitioner s incentives for a quick fix to minor illnesses have caused a negative externality for the consumption of antibiotics. A negative externality in this example is when a third party, in this case, society as a whole, is adversely affected by the overconsumption of antibiotics, due to greater bacterial resistance, causing more advanced diseases that pose a greater risk to the health of a society. The roles played by consumers, doctors and pharmaceutical manufacturers will be discussed in detail ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most antibiotics require a prescription from a medical professional such as a general practitioner or specialist. According to research published in the Medical Journal of Australia during 2017: GP s have been prescribing antibiotics nine times more often than what the guidelines state. Doctors, like consumers, are driven by their own incentives. There is a strong incentive for GP s to prescribe antibiotics to patients which may not necessarily require them, due to the pressure on a doctor s time to attend to as many patients as possible. Therefore, doctors can be incentivised to undertake the simplest solution, rather than sacrifice the amount of patients that they see in order to explore other methods of treatment. Doctor s incentives tend to be skewed towards offering treatment to patients, rather than focusing on decreasing the big picture societal negative externality. Another example of an externality on the healthcare system is that amplified antibiotic resistance increases medical costs, as more expensive, potent antibiotics are required to combat stronger bacteria and infections. In the United States, Pharmaceutical companies spend over $1 billion each year on direct to consumer advertising for antibiotic prescriptions, shifting away from traditional advertisements for physicians in medical journals, towards newspapers and consumer magazines. This marketing strategy has bolstered consumer demand hugely and it poses a problem, as consumers are now heavily swayed by private institutions who have their own incentive for maximizing profits. In order to combat the issues discussed in this essay, a potential solution involves the implementation of economic incentives for drug manufacturers, consumers and doctors, employed by policy ... When it comes to recruiting in the private sector, there are a few guidelines that you might reference here and there, but by and large recruiting is done without interference. The process seems fairly simple; you develop a job description, establish a salary structure and place an advertisement. There are no testing requirements or mandates that you need to satisfy to be able to hire a new employee. Along with this the time it takes to recruit someone in the private sector takes only as long as it takes to get a qualified applicant to apply for a position and interview for the job. Interviewing is straight forward and although an applicant might go through two or three interviews, before being offered the position, there is no one outside the organization telling the organization how to recruit and how to hire a qualified applicant. Recruiting in the public sector is so much more complex than it is in the private sector. In the public sector many positions have testing requirements built into them. This means that you must test the candidates that meet the minimum qualifications, which at times means you test over 100 people with some positions, and with some positions within the Fire and Police Departments; this means that there could be well over 1,000 applicants to test. Case 5 5, Bulletin Board Use p. 236 1.Is an employer required to have bulletin boards at the workplace? No, I do not believe an employer is required to have a bulletin board. My company does not have a bulletin board; with the use of technology such as email and intranet websites, a traditional bulletin board is not needed. 2.If an Employer did not provide bulletin boards at the workplace, would employees have a right to provide and mount their own bulletin boards? I do not think an employee would have the right to bring in a bulletin board. I think if they want a bulletin board they should discuss it with their supervisor and if agreed, let the company provide it. If the employee brings in the board, they may feel like they can dictate what is posted and it may not be work appropriate. It could cause conflict if other employees want to post something on the board. Items posted could violate a non solicitation policy and other workplace rules. To avoid this situation, employees should not be allowed to bring in their own bulletin board. 3.If there are company provided bulletin boards at the workplace, does the Employer have a right to restrict the purpose or ... Shooting, dribbling, crossing someone up, and even dunking has caught the eye of many people around the world. Many basketball players start at young age playing at a local recreation or YMCA (Young Men s Christian Association) to build their skills and IQ of the game. This sport also consists of two genders: male and female. One of the top associations in American sports today is The National BasketballAssociation (NBA) and the Women s Basketball Association (WNBA). The association of women s basketball and men s basketball is almost equivalent. This essay will analyze the differences and similarities of the two sports and associations. The following differences and similarities will be analyzed throughout the essay: rules, monetary differences, and gender. The rules of the game of basketball vary between men and women. The National Basketball Associationhas twelve minute quarters, yet the Women s National Basketball Association has ten minute quarters. On the other hand, both associations have the original twenty four second shot clock. In addition, both the men s professional basketball and women s professional basketball have the same rules that consist of the following: walks, double dribble, illegal screens, charging fouls, clear path fouls, bonus, overtime, jump ball, over the back fouls, and even goal tending. Compare Contrast Tready Signing at Medicine Creek Lodge The only thing we can be sure about in the Treaty Signing at Medicine Creek Lodge, by John Taylor and Howling Wolf is that they contain the same overt content that is the peace treaty signing . (Sayre) How can both artists be so far apart in their renderings and what influences affected their works? Was it the time between the two artworks, cultural differences, or form? John Taylor s illustration for Leslie s Illustrated Gazette is more naturalistic than representational because he was focusing on what he saw in the grove at the treaty signing but ethnocentric beliefs may have caused him to make the Native Americans look hostile in their facial expressions, with their bow and arrows at hand. He also portrays them as non descript so you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The lack of scale makes the tipis, trees, horse and Native Americans look about the same size. Howling Wolf shows the convergence of the Arkansas River and Medicine Creek because that s where the tribes were encamped and that is his main focus. One big difference between Howling Wolf s version and John Taylor s version is that Howling Wolf shows a large number of married Native American women, identified by a red stripe down the back of their heads, at the treaty signing. They sit with their backs to the viewer, their attention focused on the signing ceremony before them . (Sayre) This illustrates the importance of women in Native American culture. By using iconology, Howling Wolf identifies each individual by the symbols on their clothes and tipis. I believe he also uses iconology when focusing on the grove where the signing took place. There is a Native American man holding the treaty and crying, an Anglo American holding a pen in the face of another Native American as if to say, you better sign! Even the Anglo American holding the horse has symbolism, whereas the horse wants to be freed, but is being held captive. In conclusion, the time difference between the two works doesn t seem to be a big factor in the different renderings of the treaty signings because even after that length of time Howling Wolf seems to remember specific details, even if they are completely different from Taylor s view. I know that I do different things when I am alone or with close friends, which leads many of us to wonder what William Byrd, a wealthy Virginia planter, did in both his social and private sides of life, as well as what prompted him to write the various statements in his diary. At first glance, William Byrd II gave me the impression of a spoiled, rich boy who feels he can do as he pleases. In reality, he did do what he pleased since he was a major Virginia planter and owner of many slaves. His hard work consisted of writing letters to England or talking to the... William gives as much attention to his children as he does to Lucy; little to none. I have come to see his journal entries as highlights of his day. Lucy is in a few of his entries, but mainly because they were having an argument and it stayed with William all day. As for his children, well unless they are sick or wet the bed, then they never do anything worthy to William. Besides the fact that he ignores his family, what else could he have been doing all day that he did not write about? For example, maybe there was some activity or routine, but because it did not strike him as important, he did not write about it. He does routinely write about what he ate for breakfast and the time he woke up, but other than that, it is whatever he found important that day, which for the most part is not interesting to me at all. Their first candidate drug was AldurazymeВ® which is currently being used to treat patients of Mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS I). Because of the rare nature of this condition and the rareness of other conditions being treated by BioMarin, they are considered an orphan drug company. Receiving orphan drug designation has resulted in BioMarin gaining certain advantages from the FDA such as: seven year exclusive period on marketing after a drug has been approved and tax incentives. As such, BioMarin has not necessarily faced competition in the therapeutic areas of their approved products. BioMarin was founded as a subsidiary of Glyko Biomedical in 1996 and started operations in 1997. While Glyko provided the initial start up funds, BioMarin also sold 2.5 million common stock to its founders. The company has a history of success in fundraising. What Flaubert does for these moments is build up our expectations of what we think is going to happen long before it actually occurs so that when the moment nears, he can make the current buildup and the moment itself quick and plain. This is so that we are emotionally detached from it and the character s experience and ours do not mix. One passage where this happens is near the beginning of part 3, on page 208, where Emma is having a conversation with Leon. The passage is With a slight shrug, Emma interrupted him to lament the illness during which she had nearly died; what a shame! she would no longer be suffering now. Leon immediately envied the tranquillity of the grave, and one night he had even written his will, requesting that he be buried in that beautiful coverlet, with its bands of velvet, that she had given him; for this was the way they would have liked to be they were both creating for themselves an ideal against which they were not adjusting their past lives.
