DBQ on Differences Between New England and Chesapeake...
Two unique societies were constructed by people of common origin. These English colonists
immigrated to the New World for either economic prosperity or religious freedom. During
colonization, two regions were formed, New England and the Chesapeake Bay area. The two
contrasting societies of New England and Chesapeake region were the results of diversity of: social
and family structure; health and living conditions; economy; religion and beliefs; and government
policies.
As stated in Document A, unity was encouraged among New Englanders, which developed into close
societies. The close societies often built a bond of trust within the community, knowing that neighbors
would come together during times of danger. Document A also stresses the ... Show more content on

Document F claims, ...our ordinary [food] was but mean and water so that this ... little relieved our
wants, whereby with extremity of the bitter cold frost ... more than half of us died. The document
describes the harsh living conditions that were imposed upon the colonists of the Chesapeake region.
These conditions often reduced the expected life expectancy of its inhabitants by ten years and often
destroyed the family unit. The living conditions of New England were much more favorable and often
increased the life expectancy of the colonists. Longer lifetimes resulted in society stability since
families were formed and grandparents invented.
Document F states, The worst [among us were the gold seekers who] with their golden promises made
all men their slaves in hope of recompenses. This quote displays the major motive of emigrants to the
Chesapeake region as gold seekers, or monetary prosperity. Documents G and H show that there were
many indentured servants in the Chesapeake area. These indentured servants were often used for the
tobacco farms. Since the soil was infertile in New England, the colonists there often focused on trade,
small scale manufacturing, fishing, and other sea industries. The economy of each region impacted its
social structure, which many indentured servants and slaves in the Chesapeake region while there was
much more equality in New England.
Documents A, D, and E stress the importance of religion

Analysis Of The Book The Things They Carried
1. Birth October 1, 1946; present 2. The things they carried was written in the late 1980 s and
published in 1990. The novel acts as a response to the era it discusses by solidifying the un
generalized version of war through fictional anecdotes from the narrator and characters. The truth is
never portrayed through historic context or media, and with this novel, the author was able to
reciprocate the emotions felt by soldiers from the graphic scenes or actions envisioned/written. 3.
Factors that influenced the author to publish this novel was partly due to his way of coping after war,
using stories to keep the imagination alive and causing the audience to reflect on their own lives.
Another is telling an honest view of the what war really is and how the soldiers were affected from the
start of being drafted until life after the Vietnam War, trying to find their identity. 4. The novel version
I used was paperback. To complete this section, I used websites for articles about O Brien s biography,
interviews from the author himself, and different analysis of the novel as my sources to understand the
varied perspectives.
II. Diction: 1. The diction for this novel is connotative. Although his writing can be straightforward
and literal, his reflection can provide varied meanings to what his ideas are. The author often changes
literary devices to get his point across. In one chapter, he can be specific on the little details that
depicts one s entity and then he can take

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Secured Loan
CHAPTER 3 (Bank s condition product)
3.1 trends in loan
A variety of new trends and innovations have expand in banking industry. Some are positive and
negative, but some show a mix of plus and minus. Government has been really concern and
increasingly keeping eyes on these case, especially after 2008 financial crisis.
3.2 SECURED LOAN
Secured loan is commercial loan that the assets of a borrower pledged to a lender as collateral which
return for a loan. These assets will be the essential sources of repayment and the lender has the right to
seize it if the borrowers do not obey the rules and regulations.

Some people who has a not so good past history of credit may apply to get a collateral loan and it is
easier to pass the loan procedural. Much different from unsecured loan, where good history of past
credit is one of major consideration to giving out loan, the one that plays important role in the value of
collateral given.
Collateral or secured loan offers borrower to ask for big numbers. There is no maximum number for
borrowing as long the limit is not higher than the amount of collateral. The lenders feel confident
enough to give loan as long the appraisal give out satisfactory valuation.
As the amount borrowed is usually big, borrower usually asks for longer time span of repaying the
loan. Thus the amount of repayment will be smaller. Nonetheless longer time span substantially
increases the amount of interest need to be paid by borrower. The lender usually offers 5 20 years of
installment. Regardless the interest that applied in secured loan, it is however still lower than
unsecured loan.

For centuries economists have sustained free trade as the best free trade policy. Even so, after a more

This requires an introduction of the comparative advantage concept, an economic theory first
developed in the 19th century by English economist David Ricardo. 3. Comparative advantage
The theory attributes the cause and benefits of international trade to the differences among countries in
the relative opportunity costs of producing the same commodities. In his theory, Ricardo does not see
the fact that one country could produce everything more efficiently than another as an argument
against free international trade.
In the end no one will remain without something to do. Evolving countries like China that have low
wages and therefore lower costs and prices for their products will still leave space for other countries
to produce what they have a certain cost advantage in. This will be decided according to the
distribution of resources for production around the globe. Some countries may have a natural
advantage, by having access to certain natural resources other countries don t have, or an acquired
advantage based on the technology and skills more developed in some countries than others. This way,
all countries will sell and buy products at lower costs than if they were to produce themselves. 4.
Trends
Trade has become increasingly free in the last 200 years, going through different fazes from trade with
colonies to outsourced production nowadays. The volume of trade in this period has risen
exponentially.

Type 4 Pili Research Paper
Bacterial pili have been well studied for their structure, function, and genetics. However, little is
known about the structure and function of archaeal pili. Current research has begun to focus on the
archaeal pilus and its relatedness to bacterial pili, particularly the bacterial type IV pilus. Using
genetic and microscopy techniques, these studies have shown comparative evidence for the
differences, as well as homology, between archaeal and bacterial type IV pili. These results suggest
there may be an evolutionary divergence from a common ancestral function and origin.

Bacteria have several different types of pili, known and classified based on their structure and
assembly. Similarly, archaea have different appendages that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Bilbo s Quotes From The Hobbit
This is the END. I am going. I am leaving NOW. GOODBYE! (32)
This quotation occurs in the beginning of Book 1, in the middle of Chapter 1, at the end of Bilbo s
inevitable after dinner speech. Bilbo is giving a speech to his 144, or One Gross, closest family and
friends during his and Frodo s birthday party. It is Bilbo s 111th birthday and Frodo s 33rd. Together,
their age is 144, hence the 144 guests for this speech. This speech, while expected at a Birthday Party,
is Bilbo s way of escaping for another, possibly last, adventure and a way for Bilbo to play a joke on
the residents of the Shire. This quote occurs immediately before the last time that Bilbo will use the

The Basin showed something that could happen, that had happened, or was currently happening.
Frodo saw the eye of Sauron in the basin and knew what it was even though he had not heard of
Sauron as an eye before. He knew that the eye was looking for him and the One Ring. After seeing
this in the basin, he noticed a ring on Lady Galadriel s hand and knew that her ring was one of the
rings given to the elves. Realizing what he had seen and what he noticed, she explained that her ring
kept them safe. It also kept the Golden Wood golden and preserved the ancient feeling in the wood.
She went on to explain that Frodo s coming meant the end of the Golden Wood. If he failed, then
Sauron would have control over Lady Galadriel s ring and thus over the Golden Wood, but if he
succeeded, then there was no grantee that her ring would work without the power of the One Ring.
Either way, her kingdom was lost. Even with this guarantee, she and her people helped Frodo and the

Piet Mondrian
Piet Mondrian
Gray Tree
The Gray Tree is an oil painting created by Piet Mondrian. This was painted in 1911 using a thick type
of oil on canvas. This process would of taken weeks or months due to its thick layers of paint, even
though this was a long process, the motions of the brush strokes look very quick and vivid. This
painting can be found at Gemeente museum in Den Haag.
Analysis
This contemporary painting by Piet Mondrian is almost eerie looking, somewhat releasing a ghostly
essence. This painting makes me feel somewhat scared, but also intrigued, like there is a story behind
this, or like someone or something is going to come out from behind the tree. However this painting
also reminds me of (excuse my nerdy reference here) the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the following years, he would rely on these skills to support himself by producing scientific
drawings and copies of museum paintings.
For Mondrian, art and philosophy were deeply intertwined. He was a prolific writer and theorist, and
was drawn to spiritual and philosophical studies. In 1908, he joined the Theosophical Society, a
spiritual organization with widespread influence in Europe that eventually connected to the New Age
Movement of the 1960s and 1970s. Though he later parted from the group, Theosophy influenced
Mondrian s utopian ideals which found expression in the balance and tension of form and color in his
paintings.
Always further, is how Mondrian termed his drive to transform his artwork. Starting in 1905, his
traditional landscape compositions began to reveal a new sense of drama and light. Jan Toorop, a
leading artist of Dutch Luminism, introduced Mondrian to the French Post Impressionists. Mondrian s
paintings changed dramatically as a result, integrating, for example, the bold color and brushwork of
Van Gogh and the pointillist technique of Georges Seurat.
Mature Period
The influence of Cubism marked a turning point in Mondrian s career. He became familiar with the
works of Picasso, Braque and others, and moved to Paris in 1912 which was, at the time, the thriving
center of the avant garde art world. Cubism gave Mondrian the structure to distill his landscapes to
their essence: he made use of the Cubist grid structure, reducing his

Hebrew Teachings of Wisdom
Teachings of Hebrew Wisdom on Diligence and Laziness
By: John Cleveland
Throughout the Bible, we see the importance of being diligent in our walk with Christ as oppose to
falling asleep and becoming lazy. As followers of Christ, we know that by applying the knowledge
given to us from the Bible can have a profound impact on our lives. When we study God s Word, we
receive wisdom and we are then able to use this wisdom in our daily lives. However, if we choose to
not be diligent in our walk with Christ, then we could possibly backslide as a result of being lazy and
falling into deeper sin. In this essay we will look at what the Hebrew teachings say about diligence as
oppose to being lazy regarding our following of Christ. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If we continue to look in the Book of Proverbs, we will find that Solomon also teaches us a lot about
the results that can be expected from being lazy in our walk with God. When we become lazy in our
lives, we open the doors for negative consequences to arise. According to Hindson and Yates, the
contrast between wisdom and folly is often a contrast between righteousness and wickedness. (2012,
263) What good is having knowledge only to never apply it in our daily lives? The ways of laziness
only lead to trouble and bad consequences. Being lazy is unproductive and this can lead us away from
the things that God has called us to do. Solomon states, listen, my son, and be wise, and set your heart
on the right path: do not join those who drink too much wine or gorge themselves on meat, for
drunkards and gluttons become poor, and drowsiness clothes them in rags. (Proverbs 23:19 21) If we
choose the laziness lifestyle, then this can lead to poor choices that will have negative impacts in our
lives. Solomon teaches us the importance of being diligent and what all it can lead to. Diligence leads
to abundance and positive outcomes for our lives. It helps us to live right and avoid things that will
bring us down. He states, work hard and become a leader; be lazy and never succeed. (Proverbs12:24)
If you ever want to make something of yourself, then you are going to have to be diligent and work
hard. Not

Ideas of Parenting
Parenting is different for everyone, but is any one way really better than the other? Amy Chua, a
professor at Yale University, believes that the strict parenting style of Chinese mothers is the way to
go. She believes that her strict and often harsh parenting style contributed to the success of her
daughters. Chinese parents believe that if their children are successful, it is a reflection of the parents.
Hanna Rosin, a contributing editor for the Atlantic, has very different views from Ms. Chua about the
correct parenting style. Ms. Rosin believes that the more relaxed, nurturing, and self led style of
Western parenting is the better way to raise children. She believes that placing your children under
immense pressure can produce ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Western parent allows the child to show interest in a subject or activity, then allows them to
explore this interest, whereas the Chinese style parent chooses school subjects and activities. Allowing
the children to first show interest in an activity helps to set the child up for success. If the child likes
an activity, they are more likely to practice or develop skills because they enjoy it, and are not being
forced into it. This may help their self esteem as well, because they will be doing something they like,
instead of being forced to do something that they may not have a natural aptitude for and run the risk
of failing. In addition to the close development choices of the Western parent, they try to enhance the
social development as well. They do this by sending the children to sleep away camps, or a friend s
house for a sleepover. The Chinese parent doesn t allow the children to attend sleepovers, school
dances, sports events, etc. I think some children of the Western parents love the way they were raised
and allowed to explore and make their own decisions growing up. I also believe there may be some
children of Western parents that wish their parents had been stricter, or pushed them more when they
were younger. There are pros and cons to both parenting styles. Some pros from both sides are that the
children are nurtured, receive all of the education

Sex Offenders Should Be Legal
Over the years, there has been controversy on the topic of whether the names of sex offenders should
or shouldn t be made public. Sex offender laws may vary from state to state depending on the specific
type of violation. When the sex offenders are released from prison, they are enlisted on an online
database where their names, photographs, and addresses are displayed to the public. As a result of this
national publication database, sex offender laws have grown self defeatingly harsh (Economist 655).
When sex offenders are added to the registries, it is often felt unfair that the registries enforce harsh
punishments for small offenses, sex offender laws punishes the offender and his or her family, and
does little to protect the innocent. Sex offenders often get punished for offenses that are small, low
risk crimes. It is possible for a person to lose their job or the opportunity to see their children for one
tier offenses. Also, offenders can be at risk of being brutally attacked or murdered by being named a
sex offender on the database. These offenders will soon become a burden to the economy because of
their incapability to stay employed. Eventually, offenders are left relying on welfare with state
assistance, and they are viewed as an outsider of the community. As a result of extreme stress, the
offender can act out and become a second term offender.
The publication of the sex offender s information can bring not only consequences to them, but also to
their family

Organizational Culture Shapes And Controls Behavior Within...
Write up 3 Every organization operates and functions in a different way. Rather it be the employees,
the structure, or the products and services they provide, each organization will have their own unique
way of performing tasks and reaching their goals. All organizations have a set of values and norms by
which they go by, which sets them apart from other organizations. These values and norms are part of
an organization s culture. According to the textbook, organizational culture is the set of shared values
and norms that control organizational members interactions with each other and with suppliers,
customers, and other people outside the organization (pg. 179). Culture is one of the key ways an
organization can increase its effectiveness. Organizational culture shapes and controls behavior within
the organization. It influences how people respond to a situation and how they interpret the
environment surrounding the organization. Therefore, an organization s culture directly affects its
performance and position within the competitive environment. With that being said, an organization
with a well established culture will tend to be more successful than an organization with a poor
culture. Employees often spend 40 hours or more per week at their work place, which means
organizational culture not only affects their work lives, but their personal lives as well. In attempt to
better understand organizational culture, I will take a look at Chick fil A, a fast food restaurant

The Sargasso Se The Disappearances In The Bermuda Triangle
While methane bubbles can sink an entire ship, it does not prove to be the cause for all disappearing
ships and plans in the triangle. The area of largest methane gas releases was not in the Bermuda s but
somewhere along the Carolinas coast. This decreases the likelihood of methane gas releases from the
ocean floor. Some drilling rigs have drilled into methane hydrates (where methane gas is stored
underground) and while the density of that water did decrease and the ship sunk; there was plenty of
time to send a mayday call and evacuate the ship. With the methane gas theory, there would be no
reason why a ship could not make a mayday call, but disappearances in the triangle are sudden.
Researchers know some of the first sailors did not have the technology to send a mayday call, but
would have been able to evacuate their ship if it was slowly sinking. Methane ... Show more content

The Sargasso Sea is seven hundred miles wide by two thousand miles long. The Bermuda Triangle is
on the western edge of the Sargasso Sea. The water is covered in dense seaweed which forms a thick
mat on the surface, known as Sargassum (Rudolph pg. 9). Christopher Columbus thought he had
reached land when he reached the Sargasso Sea (Bhattacharya). It is bound by ocean currents on all
sides, which separates it from the surrounding Atlantic. Trash and other objects are pulled into the sea
by swirling currents. The thick mat of seaweed and trash could bring a ship to a halt when the winds
are low. Some ships have been found floating in the seaweed with no passengers. One ship, Fannia E.
Wolston, floated for five years covering 7,025 miles. Spanish sailors often found themselves stranded
for weeks and had to jettison their war horses to conserve water, which was why an area of the
Sargasso Sea is called the Horse Latitudes . However, there was no direct correlation to missing

Plate Tectonics Evolve
How Did the Theory of Plate Tectonics Evolve? The theory of plate tectonics evolved out of the
theory of continental drift. Alfred Wegener originally proposed the theory that continents move over
time in 1912 after observing that many coastlines on opposite sides of the ocean appeared to match up
like puzzle pieces. He formed the theory of continental drift based on evidence, such as the fact that
fossils of the same species of plant or land animals are found across oceans, on different continents.
Unfortunately, Wegener s theory was largely ignored in part because it did not explain how or why the
continents moved. Over the next 50 years, however, scientists continued to collect evidence that
suggested he may have been right. For example,

Motor Vehicle Safety Essay
Problem Statement:
Motor vehicle accidents are one of the leading causes of death in the United States, and are the leading
cause of death in children aged 13 and under [1]. In 2015, 220 per one million children under the age
of 4 were involved in fatal motor vehicle accidents [1]. In addition to motor vehicle accidents,
improper uses of Child Restraint Systems (CRS) in cars are known to cause an increased risk of
injury. Targeting the specific aspect of children being incorrectly fastened to their car seats could
possibly prevent injuries and/or deaths due to motor vehicle accidents. These deaths are a topic of
concern due to that fact that children need more protection in vehicles than adults do. According to
PennDOT, children under age four must be securely fastened in a federally approved child passenger
restraint system (CRS) [2]. However, there are multiple studies and statistics that show that many
families do not know how to correctly use a child car seat. A Canadian study, which observed more
than 13,000 children, noted that approximately only 90% were using car seats. Of these, only 60%
were using the correct type of car seat, with only 20% of those aged four to eight years old using
booster seats [3]. A Manitoba study found that approximately 70% 80% of families are using their ...

The wah wah pedal is now a standard for all rock musicians. As a result of The Beatles being the
number one band in the world, they had access to the industries latest recording tools. Perhaps one of
the most important recording tools used by the band in recording was automatic double tracking or
ADT. This device allowed the band to flawlessly double any given sound. ADT was used mostly on
vocals to enhance the sound of the singer. The Beatles also used an innovative tool known as the
Dolby noise reduction system (Dolby NRS). This device reduced the build up of noise during the over
dubbing process. Dolby NRS is still widely used in the field of music recording. In an effort to find a
new sound, The Beatles cracked open an amplifier and put a fan inside. Just as talking into a fan
distorts a voice, the band found that it has the same effect on an instrument. Many of the sounds were
added onto the tracks randomly which makes the album virtually impossible to rerecord or perform
live. Drugs played a role in the recording of Sgt. Pepper s. The group was notoriously known to
experiment with the drugs LSD and Marijuana. The entire album has debatable drug references, but
the one thing that can not be argued is that the entire group was high on these drugs throughout the
recording process. The record has many sounds that will be used later in the psychedelic

In Behrendt et al (2014) in summary of the article reviewing continuous bedside pressure mapping
(CBPM) devices were studied on the effects of pressure ulcer prevention. It focused on reducing the
number of hospital associated pressure ulcers. Prevention of pressure ulcer is a very important in
nursing, we can provide a better quality life for patients in the hospital. Patient with the CBPM

same method as far as pressure mapping as Behrendt et al (2014) but they measured pressure points.
Their study showed that patients are still at risk to develop pressure ulcers when repositioned every 2
hours, some area of the body did not relieve from pressure after repositioning. This means that even
after the patient was repositioned to prevent or reduce the risk of pressure ulcer formation, there are
substantial areas of skin that do not get relieved and remain at risk for pressure ulcers regardless of
routine repositioning by experienced nurses (Peterson et al., 2013). The study was done to reduce
pressure ulcers prevention by revealing that other areas of the skin were still at risk after repositioning
the patient. Further studies would reveal inconsistencies in this study whether or not these triple

Black Box Model Of Consumer Behaviour
The black box model shows the interaction of stimuli, consumer characteristics, and decision process
and consumer responses. It can be distinguished between inter personal stimuli (between people) or
intrapersonal stimuli (within people). The black box model is closely related to the black box theory of
behaviourism, where the focus is not set on the processes inside a consumer, but the relation between
the stimuli and the response of the consumer. The marketing stimuli are planned and processed by the
companies, whereas the environmental stimulus is given by social factors, based on the economic,
political and cultural circumstances of a society (Chuahan, 2013). The central aim of effective
marketing management is to discover what goes on in the mind of the customer the black box

Risk aversion is a measure of how much consumers need to be certain and sure of what they are
purchasing (Donthu and Gilliland, 1996).Highly risk adverse consumers need to be very certain about
what they are buying. Whereas less risk adverse consumers can tolerate some risk and uncertainty in
their purchases. The second variable, innovativeness, is a global measure which captures the degree to
which consumers are willing to take chances and experiment with new ways of doing things (Donthu

characteristics (e.g., innovative, venturesome, cosmopolitan, variety seeking), therefore,
innovativeness and risk aversion were included in this study to capture several of these traits.

Comparison of Lord of the Flies with Peter Pan
The Boys
The books Lord of the Flies by William Golding, and Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie, have similar
characteristics that will be compared and contrasted in this paper. Lord of the Flies takes place on a
deserted island where about 20 British boys have crashed during World War II. Peter Pan, dissimilarly,
tells the tale of a boy who doesn t want to grow up and lives on the magical island of Neverland with
the Lost Boys. Both Lord of the Flies and Peter Pan have common themes, symbols, and characters,
but, at the same time, differ. Lord of the Flies and Peter Pan share quite a few qualities. They have

The conch, that states whoever holds it is allowed to speak, possesses great authority. It also shows
that the Island Boys are trying to maintain their humanity by having an organization system. The
conch symbolizes brains and intelligence. It was Piggy s idea to have this rule, and he was the main
enforcer of it. When the conch shattered as Piggy died, it represented the loss of all hope. Their whole
system had officially ended.
In Peter Pan a significant symbol is that of the kiss and thimble. Wendy gives Peter a kiss , which is
actually a thimble, out of her newfound affection for him. Peter, however, doesn t realize the
significance of it, and naturally gives her an acorn in return. This act of giving kisses is only seen as
significant to Wendy at the time. Later, when the acorn saves Wendy s life, Peter grasps the
importance of it. This exchanging of kisses is also representing Wendy s growing up. She has that
yearning for romance that most young girls do, and has sought to find it in Peter.
The second set of symbols is not physical; instead they are heard. In Lord of the Flies, when the boys
kill a pig, they chant, Kill the pig. Cut her throat. Spill her blood. (pg. 69) When this rhythmic
shouting begins, death is always near; whether it is of a pig or a human. The clock that ticks from the
crocodile in Peter Pan has a similar meaning. Both evoke fear into

Climate Change And Climate Adaptation
One of the most challenging global issue facing today s society is climate change, it is affecting all
regions across the globe, with some areas experiencing extreme weather events and heavy rainfall,
whereas other regions are hit with droughts and heat waves. Climate change can be defined as a large
scale, long term shift in the planet s weather patterns or average temperatures. (metoffice).
Consequently, a range of challenges are occurring to not only human settlements, but more
importantly to the natural environment as well. It is becoming increasingly important for countries
across the globe to attempt to adapt and mitigate from the effects of climate change. Climate
mitigation is any action taken to permanently eliminate or reduce the long term risk and hazards of
climate change to human life, property. (Global greenhouse warming.com). It can include enhancing
the sinks of greenhouse gases, as well as reducing the sources. Whereas climate adaptation, is
referring to the ability of a system to adjust to climate change (including climate variability and
extremes) to moderate potential damage, to take advantage of opportunities, or to cope with the
consequences. (Global greenhouse warming.com). Adaptation can include improving road
infrastructure, so it would be able to withstand hotter temperatures, or just simply change in behaviour
shifts such as using less water. These two methods are essential and can be connected through
strategic town planning, and can be used to tackle climate change, through an array of
implementations which will not only prepare the globe, but also reduce the impacts of climate change.
Urban areas not only have a profound part in contributing to climate change, but these areas have also
become extremely vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, as more than half of the world s
population are living in urban areas and global rate of urbanisation is evermore increasing. Cities can
be met with an increase in frequency of storms, flooding, landslides and heat waves. Higher
temperatures also occur more frequently in urban areas than rural or suburban surroundings, due to the
urban heat island effect. This is an area, such as a city or industrial site, that has consistently

The story White Tiger by Aravind Adiga follows the protagonist Balram in his gradual journey of
being powerless to being a powerful and wealthy entrepreneur in India through a letter that he writes

compared to the metaphor of the Rooster Coop. The metaphor of the Rooster Coop compares rooster
in a cage to servants to their masters. Roosters are stucked in a cage and faces grave consequence if
they dare to escape similarly to servants as the can not leave their masters and if they dare to challenge
their masters and leave they will also face grave consequences. The Rooster Coop of India perpetuates

Black Lives Matter Chapter Summary
Personally, these two chapters helped make sense of the Black Lives Matter movement be providing
context to the social structures that shape and perpetuate the oppressive experiences of an ethnic youth
minority. In understanding how society can be institutionally oppressive (e.g through institutions of
education, government, and economy), it also explains the degree in which human agency is
necessary. This helps explain by some Black Lives Matter supporters must go to elaborate lengths to
get their voices heard. Especially for youth who are already at a disadvantage. This is discussed by
Cairns as millennials are seen as being entitled, therefore their voices, and experiences are discredited
in some ways. However, Cairns responds with expecting more than the status quo offers might
actually be a positive thing (Cairns, 30). Cairns also discusses the concept of democratic entitlement
vs oppressive entitlement. Ideally everyone would have a right to democracy and be treated fairly,
however it is acknowledged that if there was to happen, there would be no oppressive entitlement in
which people feel superior over others (Cairns, 43). This superiority gives those in ... Show more

Analysis Of Canadian Politician Ron Johnson
Pricing is actually a pretty simple and straight forward thing. Customers will not pay literally a penny
more than the true value of the product (Johnson, R. n.d.). The introductory citation by Canadian
Politician Ron Johnson lays the foundation for this case assignment. A case assignment composed of
proposals to numerous companies pertaining to their pricing strategy. For products created by their
individual organizations. Let s kickoff this case assignment by exploring possible strategies, for a
company that recently developed a new 3D television.
3D television:
A company has produced a state of the art 3D television that contains unique features, that is different
from other 3D televisions currently in the market. This company acquired a patent on a new
technology that doesn t involve the end user to put on 3D glasses to enjoy the effect and display of this
contemporary television. Due, to the patent and superior technology this company will revel in the
advantage it will gain over other companies for at least a year or two. So, it would be prudent that this
company heeds the following advice, in protecting their interest concerning the pricing strategy for
this advanced 3D television.
Consider your overall marketing goals, such as penetrating new markets with new products, or
maintaining a higher market share with existing products compared to your closest competitors (Paley,

The most powerful computers in the technology world are the Supercomputers. Hence, as the word

also huge in size. You need a big room to fit in a supercomputer, and a strong cooling system to avoid
getting a supercomputer to get overheated. They usually have more than one CPU s to generate high
level data processing speed, and they need to have a large storage as well. The unit system that are
used to measure the computing performance of the supercomputer are FLOPS (Floating point

named Colossus . It was made by The Great Britain, specially to crack the coded messages of
Germans. Colossus could read up to 5000 characters in a second. Colossus was the start of a
revolution in supercomputing. Since 1944, more enhanced and powerful supercomputers were

Baumol Model Of Cash Management
It was developed by William J. Baumol. The model helps determine a firm s optimum cash balance
under certainty. It is used for cash management. The model helps firms determine the optimum cash
balances that they can keep by considering costs. The costs involved are holding costs (opportunity
costs) and the transactional costs.
Transactional costs are the costs incurred when changing between marketable security and cash.
Holding costs are costs incurred when keeping cash. Opportunity costs are the costs incurred when the
firm chooses to keep cash instead of buying securities. It is also known as interest rate because it is the
interest rate that are foregone by the firm by not investing in marketable securities.
Just like all most model, the Baumol model works with assumptions. The first assumption is that the
firm must be able to forecast its cash requirements and receive a specific flow of cash at regular
intervals. Its cash flows must be certain. The other assumption is that the firm must be able to change
to change the securities that it owns into cash keeping the variable and fixed costs of transactions the
same. The firm must also be aware of it opportunity cost when holding cash. The opportunity cost
should stay constant for a long period of time.

Occupational Therapy Personal Statement
OTCAS Personal Statement
There is an anonymous quote I often encounter which states, Find three hobbies you love: one to make
you money, one to keep you in shape, and one to be creative. I believe that people can have many
hobbies and passions in life, but there are few things that constitute what our purpose is. I feel that
when we can combine our passions into a career that also has a positive impact on humanity, we have
found our purpose.
I am not going to tell you that it has always been my dream to become an occupational therapist. For
most of my school years, I did not know what profession I wanted to pursue. I did know, however, that
I desired to work in healthcare because of my personal experience with my family s injuries/diseases,
as well as my interests in how the body functions and heals. For a while, I was adjudicating between
becoming an occupational therapist or a physical therapist because the two professions are quite
similar. After much contemplation, I realized that my high attention to detail, personality, and my

Mere Christianity Book 1 Summary
Book 3 of Mere Christianity contains 12 separate chapters, which has far too great a scope to address
properly here, so a glimpse will have to suffice. In the first, Lewis examines three components of
morality; the relations between men, the interior moral mechanics of a man, and the relationship
between a man and the God who made him. Lewis makes the case that, since we are destined to live
forever in one state or another, it is desperately important that we pay attention to the sort of Being we
are becoming. Lewis points out that most of humanity can agree that keeping relations between men
running smoothly are important, but varying world views and religions or lack of religion, have
produced some disagreements on the necessity of keeping one s own ship in order, as it were, and it
completely breaks down when the relationship between a man and his Maker are addressed, as there is
virtually no agreement there.
In the second section, he outlines the principle, or cardinal virtues: Prudence, Temperance, Justice and
Fortitude, which could also be termed wisdom, self control, fairness, equity, and steadfastness. He
uses the vivid illustration of an athlete, or mathematician who practices a virtue, making a shot in
tennis, or solving problems till they become internalized, a part of the person who disciplined himself
to perfect them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Language In To The Lighthouse, By Virginia Woolf
Virginia Woolf (1882 1941) was a prolific writer, whose style changed with each new novel, and her
work represented the historical moment when art was integrated into society. Her modernist novel To
the Lighthouse stray s from the conventional forms of writing, concentrating not on the plot but on the
characters consciousness and physical development, producing an innovative type of narrative which
depicts realities beneath appearances, and at the same time brings about a deep exploration of the
human mind. To the Lighthouse was written in 1927 and it is considered a masterpiece due to the way
in which Woolf experimented with the stream of consciousness as well as with the emotional feelings

These aspects are psychological elements that constitute the basis for a modernist writing, and as

in the dark places of psychology. (11) Though the novel contains a multitude of conventional narration

Icarus, Daedalus, Phaethon, And Arachne
Many people think that myths are just plain old stories but, that is not the case. There are many life
lessons you can find in myths like Icarus and Daedalus, Phaethon, and Arachne. Firstly, in Icarus and
Daedalus there is a very valuable lesson embedded into the story but, before we get into that we have
to know the story. Our story starts in the ancient city of Crete. The king of Crete was King Minos,
King Minos had a dark secret, the minotaur a monster that was half man and half bull. So in order to
imprison it he called on the most famous inventor in ancient Greece, Daedalus. King Minos told
Daedalus to build him a labyrinth under his castle. Daedalus gladly did so, he even threw some
special.. Surprises in the labyrinth. A few months later Daedalus finally finished the labyrinth. Months
after the labyrinth was built Daedalus heard what it was being used for. King Minos had put the
Minotaur inside of a labyrinth and fed it men and women. Realising he hadn t been paid Daedalus
took his son and went to Minos and asked for his money hoping for a quick departure. However, this
was not the case Minos did not let them leave and instead led them to the largest apartment in the
castle which was atop the highest tower. They lived in luxury but every night the door was locked.
Daedalus, noticed that birds flew to the tower every once in awhile and when they were there he
coaxed them to give him just one feather. Over a span of a year he had enough to create two pairs of

Implicit egotism is a tendency for people to be attracted to places, things, and other people that are

effects. A study done by Jones et al. (2002) distinguishes implicit egotism from other similar concepts

Dunne contradicting character keep the audience unpredictable because even people who believe in
his innocence cannot assert with surety that Dunne is not a criminal because revelations keep popping
up showing that Dunne was lying on some issues and therefore is not an entirely innocent protagonist
(Seitz, 2015). For instance, Dunne lies to the police that in the morning that Amy disappeared he was

suspense, surprises and revelations make Gone Girl a masterpiece as it utilizes these aspects to its
utmost level.
Amy character is credible in the sense that she successfully leave trails that were a good evidence to
implicate Dunne. Her plan is well executed so as to convince the authorities that she is dead and the
perpetrator is Dunne. At the beginning of the movie, Amy makes it hard to believe that she is not dead

  • 2. DBQ on Differences Between New England and Chesapeake... Two unique societies were constructed by people of common origin. These English colonists immigrated to the New World for either economic prosperity or religious freedom. During colonization, two regions were formed, New England and the Chesapeake Bay area. The two contrasting societies of New England and Chesapeake region were the results of diversity of: social and family structure; health and living conditions; economy; religion and beliefs; and government policies. As stated in Document A, unity was encouraged among New Englanders, which developed into close societies. The close societies often built a bond of trust within the community, knowing that neighbors would come together during times of danger. Document A also stresses the ... Document F claims, ...our ordinary [food] was but mean and water so that this ... little relieved our wants, whereby with extremity of the bitter cold frost ... more than half of us died. The document describes the harsh living conditions that were imposed upon the colonists of the Chesapeake region. These conditions often reduced the expected life expectancy of its inhabitants by ten years and often destroyed the family unit. The living conditions of New England were much more favorable and often increased the life expectancy of the colonists. Longer lifetimes resulted in society stability since families were formed and grandparents invented. Document F states, The worst [among us were the gold seekers who] with their golden promises made all men their slaves in hope of recompenses. This quote displays the major motive of emigrants to the Chesapeake region as gold seekers, or monetary prosperity. Documents G and H show that there were many indentured servants in the Chesapeake area. These indentured servants were often used for the tobacco farms. Since the soil was infertile in New England, the colonists there often focused on trade, small scale manufacturing, fishing, and other sea industries. The economy of each region impacted its social structure, which many indentured servants and slaves in the Chesapeake region while there was much more equality in New England. • 3. Analysis Of The Book The Things They Carried 1. Birth October 1, 1946; present 2. The things they carried was written in the late 1980 s and published in 1990. The novel acts as a response to the era it discusses by solidifying the un generalized version of war through fictional anecdotes from the narrator and characters. The truth is never portrayed through historic context or media, and with this novel, the author was able to reciprocate the emotions felt by soldiers from the graphic scenes or actions envisioned/written. 3. Factors that influenced the author to publish this novel was partly due to his way of coping after war, using stories to keep the imagination alive and causing the audience to reflect on their own lives. Another is telling an honest view of the what war really is and how the soldiers were affected from the start of being drafted until life after the Vietnam War, trying to find their identity. 4. The novel version I used was paperback. To complete this section, I used websites for articles about O Brien s biography, interviews from the author himself, and different analysis of the novel as my sources to understand the varied perspectives. II. Diction: 1. The diction for this novel is connotative. Although his writing can be straightforward and literal, his reflection can provide varied meanings to what his ideas are. The author often changes literary devices to get his point across. In one chapter, he can be specific on the little details that depicts one s entity and then he can take ... This requires an introduction of the comparative advantage concept, an economic theory first developed in the 19th century by English economist David Ricardo. 3. Comparative advantage The theory attributes the cause and benefits of international trade to the differences among countries in the relative opportunity costs of producing the same commodities. In his theory, Ricardo does not see the fact that one country could produce everything more efficiently than another as an argument against free international trade. In the end no one will remain without something to do. Evolving countries like China that have low wages and therefore lower costs and prices for their products will still leave space for other countries to produce what they have a certain cost advantage in. This will be decided according to the distribution of resources for production around the globe. Some countries may have a natural advantage, by having access to certain natural resources other countries don t have, or an acquired advantage based on the technology and skills more developed in some countries than others. This way, all countries will sell and buy products at lower costs than if they were to produce themselves. 4. • 12. Hebrew Teachings of Wisdom Teachings of Hebrew Wisdom on Diligence and Laziness By: John Cleveland Throughout the Bible, we see the importance of being diligent in our walk with Christ as oppose to falling asleep and becoming lazy. As followers of Christ, we know that by applying the knowledge given to us from the Bible can have a profound impact on our lives. When we study God s Word, we receive wisdom and we are then able to use this wisdom in our daily lives. However, if we choose to not be diligent in our walk with Christ, then we could possibly backslide as a result of being lazy and falling into deeper sin. If we continue to look in the Book of Proverbs, we will find that Solomon also teaches us a lot about the results that can be expected from being lazy in our walk with God. When we become lazy in our lives, we open the doors for negative consequences to arise. According to Hindson and Yates, the contrast between wisdom and folly is often a contrast between righteousness and wickedness. (2012, 263) What good is having knowledge only to never apply it in our daily lives? The ways of laziness only lead to trouble and bad consequences. Being lazy is unproductive and this can lead us away from the things that God has called us to do. Solomon states, listen, my son, and be wise, and set your heart on the right path: do not join those who drink too much wine or gorge themselves on meat, for drunkards and gluttons become poor, and drowsiness clothes them in rags. (Proverbs 23:19 21) If we choose the laziness lifestyle, then this can lead to poor choices that will have negative impacts in our lives. Solomon teaches us the importance of being diligent and what all it can lead to. Diligence leads to abundance and positive outcomes for our lives. It helps us to live right and avoid things that will bring us down. He states, work hard and become a leader; be lazy and never succeed. If the child likes an activity, they are more likely to practice or develop skills because they enjoy it, and are not being forced into it. This may help their self esteem as well, because they will be doing something they like, instead of being forced to do something that they may not have a natural aptitude for and run the risk of failing. In addition to the close development choices of the Western parent, they try to enhance the social development as well. They do this by sending the children to sleep away camps, or a friend s house for a sleepover. The Chinese parent doesn t allow the children to attend sleepovers, school dances, sports events, etc. I think some children of the Western parents love the way they were raised and allowed to explore and make their own decisions growing up. Sex offender laws may vary from state to state depending on the specific type of violation. When the sex offenders are released from prison, they are enlisted on an online database where their names, photographs, and addresses are displayed to the public. As a result of this national publication database, sex offender laws have grown self defeatingly harsh (Economist 655). When sex offenders are added to the registries, it is often felt unfair that the registries enforce harsh punishments for small offenses, sex offender laws punishes the offender and his or her family, and does little to protect the innocent. Sex offenders often get punished for offenses that are small, low risk crimes. It is possible for a person to lose their job or the opportunity to see their children for one tier offenses. Also, offenders can be at risk of being brutally attacked or murdered by being named a sex offender on the database. These offenders will soon become a burden to the economy because of their incapability to stay employed. Eventually, offenders are left relying on welfare with state assistance, and they are viewed as an outsider of the community. The Sargasso Se The Disappearances In The Bermuda Triangle While methane bubbles can sink an entire ship, it does not prove to be the cause for all disappearing ships and plans in the triangle. The area of largest methane gas releases was not in the Bermuda s but somewhere along the Carolinas coast. This decreases the likelihood of methane gas releases from the ocean floor. Some drilling rigs have drilled into methane hydrates (where methane gas is stored underground) and while the density of that water did decrease and the ship sunk; there was plenty of time to send a mayday call and evacuate the ship. With the methane gas theory, there would be no reason why a ship could not make a mayday call, but disappearances in the triangle are sudden. Researchers know some of the first sailors did not have the technology to send a mayday call, but would have been able to evacuate their ship if it was slowly sinking. Methane ... Alfred Wegener originally proposed the theory that continents move over time in 1912 after observing that many coastlines on opposite sides of the ocean appeared to match up like puzzle pieces. He formed the theory of continental drift based on evidence, such as the fact that fossils of the same species of plant or land animals are found across oceans, on different continents. In addition to motor vehicle accidents, improper uses of Child Restraint Systems (CRS) in cars are known to cause an increased risk of injury. Climate mitigation is any action taken to permanently eliminate or reduce the long term risk and hazards of climate change to human life, property. (Global greenhouse warming.com). It can include enhancing the sinks of greenhouse gases, as well as reducing the sources. Whereas climate adaptation, is referring to the ability of a system to adjust to climate change (including climate variability and extremes) to moderate potential damage, to take advantage of opportunities, or to cope with the consequences. (Global greenhouse warming.com). Adaptation can include improving road infrastructure, so it would be able to withstand hotter temperatures, or just simply change in behaviour shifts such as using less water. These two methods are essential and can be connected through strategic town planning, and can be used to tackle climate change, through an array of implementations which will not only prepare the globe, but also reduce the impacts of climate change. Urban areas not only have a profound part in contributing to climate change, but these areas have also become extremely vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, as more than half of the world s population are living in urban areas and global rate of urbanisation is evermore increasing. Cities can be met with an increase in frequency of storms, flooding, landslides and heat waves. Higher temperatures also occur more frequently in urban areas than rural or suburban surroundings, due to the urban heat island effect. Black Lives Matter Chapter Summary Personally, these two chapters helped make sense of the Black Lives Matter movement be providing context to the social structures that shape and perpetuate the oppressive experiences of an ethnic youth minority. In understanding how society can be institutionally oppressive (e.g through institutions of education, government, and economy), it also explains the degree in which human agency is necessary. This helps explain by some Black Lives Matter supporters must go to elaborate lengths to get their voices heard. Especially for youth who are already at a disadvantage. This is discussed by Cairns as millennials are seen as being entitled, therefore their voices, and experiences are discredited in some ways. However, Cairns responds with expecting more than the status quo offers might actually be a positive thing (Cairns, 30). Cairns also discusses the concept of democratic entitlement vs oppressive entitlement. Ideally everyone would have a right to democracy and be treated fairly, however it is acknowledged that if there was to happen, there would be no oppressive entitlement in which people feel superior over others (Cairns, 43). Customers will not pay literally a penny more than the true value of the product (Johnson, R. n.d.). The introductory citation by Canadian Politician Ron Johnson lays the foundation for this case assignment. A case assignment composed of proposals to numerous companies pertaining to their pricing strategy. For products created by their individual organizations. Let s kickoff this case assignment by exploring possible strategies, for a company that recently developed a new 3D television. 3D television: A company has produced a state of the art 3D television that contains unique features, that is different from other 3D televisions currently in the market. This company acquired a patent on a new technology that doesn t involve the end user to put on 3D glasses to enjoy the effect and display of this contemporary television. Due, to the patent and superior technology this company will revel in the advantage it will gain over other companies for at least a year or two. So, it would be prudent that this company heeds the following advice, in protecting their interest concerning the pricing strategy for this advanced 3D television. Consider your overall marketing goals, such as penetrating new markets with new products, or maintaining a higher market share with existing products compared to your closest competitors (Paley, N. 2006). Hence, as the word super elaborate that supercomputers are usually used for the projects that needs to process large amount of data, at very high speed. Supercomputers not only has the high processing power; they are also huge in size. You need a big room to fit in a supercomputer, and a strong cooling system to avoid getting a supercomputer to get overheated. They usually have more than one CPU s to generate high level data processing speed, and they need to have a large storage as well. The unit system that are used to measure the computing performance of the supercomputer are FLOPS (Floating point Operation Per Second). • 33. Baumol Model Of Cash Management It was developed by William J. Baumol. The model helps determine a firm s optimum cash balance under certainty. It is used for cash management. The model helps firms determine the optimum cash balances that they can keep by considering costs. The costs involved are holding costs (opportunity costs) and the transactional costs. Transactional costs are the costs incurred when changing between marketable security and cash. Holding costs are costs incurred when keeping cash. Opportunity costs are the costs incurred when the firm chooses to keep cash instead of buying securities. It is also known as interest rate because it is the interest rate that are foregone by the firm by not investing in marketable securities. Just like all most model, the Baumol model works with assumptions. The first assumption is that the firm must be able to forecast its cash requirements and receive a specific flow of cash at regular intervals. Its cash flows must be certain. The other assumption is that the firm must be able to change to change the securities that it owns into cash keeping the variable and fixed costs of transactions the same. Occupational Therapy Personal Statement OTCAS Personal Statement There is an anonymous quote I often encounter which states, Find three hobbies you love: one to make you money, one to keep you in shape, and one to be creative. I believe that people can have many hobbies and passions in life, but there are few things that constitute what our purpose is. I feel that when we can combine our passions into a career that also has a positive impact on humanity, we have found our purpose. I am not going to tell you that it has always been my dream to become an occupational therapist. For most of my school years, I did not know what profession I wanted to pursue. I did know, however, that I desired to work in healthcare because of my personal experience with my family s injuries/diseases, as well as my interests in how the body functions and heals. For a while, I was adjudicating between becoming an occupational therapist or a physical therapist because the two professions are quite similar. After much contemplation, I realized that my high attention to detail, personality, and my passions for science, art, and the mind made occupational therapy the career I wanted to strive towards. • 35. Mere Christianity Book 1 Summary Book 3 of Mere Christianity contains 12 separate chapters, which has far too great a scope to address properly here, so a glimpse will have to suffice. In the first, Lewis examines three components of morality; the relations between men, the interior moral mechanics of a man, and the relationship between a man and the God who made him. Lewis makes the case that, since we are destined to live forever in one state or another, it is desperately important that we pay attention to the sort of Being we are becoming. Lewis points out that most of humanity can agree that keeping relations between men running smoothly are important, but varying world views and religions or lack of religion, have produced some disagreements on the necessity of keeping one s own ship in order, as it were, and it completely breaks down when the relationship between a man and his Maker are addressed, as there is virtually no agreement there. In the second section, he outlines the principle, or cardinal virtues: Prudence, Temperance, Justice and Fortitude, which could also be termed wisdom, self control, fairness, equity, and steadfastness. He uses the vivid illustration of an athlete, or mathematician who practices a virtue, making a shot in tennis, or solving problems till they become internalized, a part of the person who disciplined himself to perfect them. ... Her modernist novel To the Lighthouse stray s from the conventional forms of writing, concentrating not on the plot but on the characters consciousness and physical development, producing an innovative type of narrative which depicts realities beneath appearances, and at the same time brings about a deep exploration of the human mind. The king of Crete was King Minos, King Minos had a dark secret, the minotaur a monster that was half man and half bull. So in order to imprison it he called on the most famous inventor in ancient Greece, Daedalus. King Minos told Daedalus to build him a labyrinth under his castle.
