Essay On MLB Draft
The Show It has been said that people learn from mistakes (Roth 21) by prestigious and
successful individuals such as Dr. Bernard Roth, in an attempt to provoke people to chase their
dreams despite any mistakes or obstacles. The failure of becoming eligible for the MLB draft this
year is a colossal setback for playersinterested in being drafted. Although this is considered a
failing in society s eyes, these players have a chance to learn from there mistakes and use that
knowledge to eventually get drafted in a following year. Possibly the most substantial issue that
most of these athletes had to overcome would be lacking important knowledge necessary to
provide a respectable run at the MLB draft. The lack of knowledge can be broken up into 3
aspects: beginning with a bad plan, having unrealistic expectations, and coasting in the baseball
portion. All of these factors contribute to teaching the athletes who failed this year how to succeed
next year. To begin with, athletes were doomed from the start if they did not have good workout
and eating plans, along with good time management skills. According to a freshman pitcher at
Northeastern Junior College, interested in the MLB draft, I found it difficult to find a way to
balance: practice, eating... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now that these players have more experience under their belt they will have a better possibility
of getting drafted because they will be prepared with an excellent plan, have a better idea at what
is and is not achievable and why, and they will not coast if they are serious about making a serious
run at the MLB draft. This was a goal for many young athletes this year and even though failure was
the outcome this time, these hungry athletes will strive for their goal

Neil Degrasse Tyson Coming To Our Senses Rhetorical Analysis
Rhetorical Analysis of Coming to Our Senses
Equipped with our five senses, along with telescopes and microscopes and mass spectrometers and
seismographs and magnetometers and particle accelerators and detectors across the electromagnetic
spectrum, we explore the universe around us and call the adventure science. Neil deGrasse Tyson
Neil deGrasse Tyson, an American astrophysicist, and director of the Hayden Planetariumat the
American Museum of Natural History used this quote to clearly express his idea in his writing
Coming to Our Senses that we need technology with our senses to fully explore the world. Neil
deGrasse Tyson used many different types of rhetorical devices to convince his thoughts to his
audience.

anything they encountered, living or inanimate, for its basic properties. (pg. 163) He was

Compare And Contrast The Election Of 1824 And 1828
The elections of 1824 and 1828
Main idea: Adams and jackson introduce new ways of campaigning in the elections of 1824 and
1828
1. The election of 1824 had three candidates that were favorite suns or candidates supported by their
home state rather than by their national party. These candidates were Henry Clay, John quincy
Adams, and Andrew jackson.
2. Jackson had the most votes but less than a majority of a plurality. Since no one had a majority
then the house of representatives had to choose the next president of the united states but before the
houses had voted on the president adams and clay had made a deal that clay would use his
influence as house speaker to defeat jackson and make sure that he didn t win.
3. After the votes it had resulted in clay being secretary of state and adams as the next U.S
president of the united states. After he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The tariff debate
Main idea: the fight over tariffs divided the nation and raised the question of states rights versus the
rights of the federal government.
1. Many Americans had disagreed on the subject of tariffs or a fee paid by merchants who
imported goods out of country. In 1828 congress had passed a tariff that had placed a higher fee
on imported goods from britain which had benefitted america because a lot of goods were imported
from britain. Tariffs had split the nation in two one side being against and one side supporting it.
Most Americans from the northwest had supported the tariff on britain because it had benefited
them.
2. Southerners called the tariff the tariff of abominations because the tariff had resulted in products
being higher priced then they were before the tariff on

Deaf People Disability
Do Deaf people have a disability? What is the difference between Deaf and deaf ?
A disability can be defined as a limitation of function because of an impairment (Lane, 2008, p.
277). To some, deaf people [seem] limited in some functions because of an impairment of hearing
(Lane, 2008, p. 277). However, this determination of disability has arisen from norms and the
technologies of normalization (Lane, 2008, p. 279) by the hearing and otherwise able bodied
world. To the hearing world, Deaf people lack the ability to hear; a sense which so many of us
hearing people depend on. In actuality, the only reason Deaf people seem to suffer is because
we, the hearing majority, have placed our own beliefs and values on them. By labeling Deaf
people as disabled, we are guilty of audism and ableism, as we [insist] that inherent biological
factors determine individual traits and capacity (Lane, 2008, p. 282), and assume their life is
lacking because they either cannot hear or cannot hear as well as we think they should. If we were
to change our mentality about accessibility, about human rights, and about individuality, it would
seem clear that the only reason Deaf people are limited in any way is because the majority makes
so much revolve around the importance of hearing, and dismiss the reality that ... Show more

Causes Of Homegrown Terrorism
Even though it is called homegrown terrorism, terrorism does not only start within a home.
Although there have been events that lead to roots of what might have caused the terrorism there is
always evidence that contradicts itself. Some of these roots are radicalization, religion, and
multiculturalism. Every one of these roots has caused terrorismthroughout decades which not only
has the United Sates tried to stop, but which we have come to conclude that it is something that
we cannot control which makes us believe there are other sources and roots of domestic terrorism.
Terrorism is not only on certain days or years; terrorism is an everyday fear.
American Jihad is an American story about a citizen who belonged to Al Qaeda name Anwar
Awlaki who terrorized Boston and Florida. Born in New Mexico, he had a strong rapport with the
American Muslim youths at his mosque, thanks to a fluid use of the English language (not a given
with Islamic religious leaders, even in the U.S.) and his understanding of popular culture. (Lorraine,
2017) An Article by Los Angeles Times identify religion, culture, and radical thoughts as key factors
that influence homegrown terrorism. The article describes him as acting like one of us but knew
how to manipulate the internet and social media, using it to disseminate his videotaped teachings to
a wider audience. Religion, culture, and radical thought not only were one of his influences on
initiating the attacks but another terrorist too. In an

Mens Rea Essay
n criminal law, the mens rea refers to the defendant s state of mind at the time of their crime and
there are several levels reflecting the need to have a particular mens rea for the offence committed.
For example, in murder or a S:18 offence in the Offences Against the Person Act 1861, the mens rea
present must be that of specific intent, which is where the defendant desired that particular outcome
of their actions. However, it was held in R v Cunningham 1982, that the intention to cause serious
harm was enough to satisfy the mens rea for murder. This shows that, where murder cases are
concerned, that it is relatively easy to prove the required mens rea and in doing so the concept of
fault is often satisfied. This is once again shown in oblique... Show more content on Helpwriting.net
...
On the original hearing, Ahluwalia was convicted of murder as the law on provocation required
the loss of self control to be immediate, not premeditated and this may have been the case as the
defendant waited for her husband to sleep before murdering him. However, the law has since
developed and provocation now recognises battered woman s syndrome and the slow burn
effect it may cause. If this is the case, then surely a defendant in such a situation cannot face the
full wrath of fault when much of what surrounded the killing was not out of their choice. Even
though the actus reus and mens rea in this case, and also similar cases of R v Duffy 1949 and R
v Thornton 1992, were present, the law s introduction of a Domestic Violence Bill is perhaps
confirmation that the concept of fault can only be appropriately applied when the full
circumstances are looked at. This signifies the importance of defences, as it is here that the law
can decide whether or not a person is to blame for their actions and to what extent it was their fault
that the actus reus and mens rea were

North American Free Trade Agreement
North American Free Trade Agreement
The North American Free Trade Agreement is a regulation between Mexico, Canada, and the
United States which eliminates most tariffs on trade among them. This agreement was
implemented January 1, 1994 with the purpose to encourage economic activity among the member
countries. At the time, it established the largest free trade region in the world and included the
elimination of tariffs, agreements on trades in services, and a dispute settlement mechanism for
trade disagreements. NAFTA was highly controversial at the time, with many Canadian and
American labor leaders expressing concern that many manufacturing jobs would be relocated to
Mexican factories due to the low cost of labor. In the 1992 US ... Show more content on

Today NAFTA is a $19 trillion market with about 470 million consumers.
In 1993 the average GDP growth rate for Canada was 2.6% and in 1994 it was 4.6%, a 2%
increase! From 1993 2003 Canada s economy grew by 30.9% and Canada s exports to the United
States expanded by 250%. But Canada did struggle to reduce high unemployment rates 9%
throughout most of the 1990s. Canada did not experience a significant loss in labor jobs during
this period, but the Canadian dollar was at historic low levels in relation to the US dollar, which
helped to make Canadian goods competitive on the world market. NAFTA has clearly been a
benefit to Canada s economy and continues to have a noticeable effect to this very day.
The Mexican Peso Crisis
The Mexican Peso Crisis in December 1994 was a currency crisis that was sparked by the Mexican
government s devaluation of the peso against the U.S. dollar. In 1994, the government started
expansionary fiscal and monetary policy in an attempt to attract more foreign investment dollars
into Mexico. It used an odd form of government debt to attract investment. The government issued
short term debt in the local currency, peso, but promised to repay the debt in US dollars. Basically,
the government was gambling that the peso would remain strong or even strengthen against the US
dollar so the government s debt would be reduced. I think the logic was that the government

The Politics Of The Global Essay
INTRODUCTION
The Politics of the Global gives us a narration of how development of international political
economy happens and an understanding of globalization. Globalization is frequently analyzed
independently and the author shows how globalization plays out in two multi cultural democracies;
India and USA. It portrays different political possibilities like colonial coercion, post colonial
ambivalence and post colonial co option that are opened by global relays of meanings, identities
and power from historically different locations. Globalization also explores a variety of spaces and
strategies for resisting the colonization of the global. The author identifies bureaucratic delays and
red tape that happens in government of India as the same of a business man who uses technology to
improve productivity and is professional in his approach. It focuses on reconstructing the state s
economy and its government using the SMART simple, moral, accountable, responsive and
transparent governance argument. He characterizes globalization into three narratives; the
rationalist, historical materialist and the constructivist approaches. Each narrative consists of many
theories some of them disagreeing with each other but at the end of the day, each narrative is united
through shared models of understanding and explanation that seeks to go beyond the international
to access the global (Muppidi, 2004, p.3).

John Milton s Paradise Lost
A few years prior to writing Paradise Lost, John Milton lost his vision. In fact, Milton does not
hide the reality that his eyes, that roll in vain...find no dawn (Paradise Lost, 3.22 23). The light
that Milton refers to, however, is not just physical, but it is also spiritual. There is a third type of
blindness that Milton addresses, blindness from knowledge. Milton is concerned with this form of
blindness in a number of works, perhaps most notably Areopagitica. The acquisition of knowledge
plays a vital role in Paradise Lost: the fall of Adam and Even relies on their attainment of
knowledge; the decision to eat the fruit is blasphemous because Adam and Eveknow that it is
forbidden to them; Adam embarks on an educational mission as he asks Raphael questions in an
attempt to gain more knowledge about the world around him. However, not all knowledge can be
attained by Adam and Eve, which complicates the justice of the fall. As John Milton explores the
nature of knowledge in Paradise Lost, the validity and visibility of this knowledge lead Adam and
Eve to an unjust fall. With the exception of God, knowledge is limited for all the characters in the
text. When Adam asks Raphael a number of questions concerning his creation and his duties
towards God, Raphael readily answers. However, when Adam inquiries about the cosmological
universe, Raphael provides an answer but quickly reminds Adam that this knowledge from Man or
Angel the great Architect/Did wisely to conceal, and not

Critical Analysis on The Scream by Edvard Munch Essay
Critical Analysis on The Scream by Edvard Munch
Edvard Munch was born on December 12 1863 in Loten Norway. He moved to Christiana, and
spent most of his childhood there. Both his mother and his oldest sister suffered from
tuberculosis and died before he reached the age of 14. At 18 he became more serious about his
art and started attending art school. Edvard finally found a release for the pain he felt from his
sister s death. In 1886 he painted The Sick Child . The painting was so emotionally charged that
it received a lot of criticism from the press and the public. However some of his artist colleagues
began to recognize his talent. The same year another tragedy struck. His father died in ... Show more

Expressionism is not an art that is based on reality of something but more on the emotion of the
thing. E.g. there is a painting of a man sitting on a chair. But in Expressionist painting the colours,
emotion and shapes would show the mans emotions to show a completely different picture and
story. This is why Expressionist art is so unique and distinctive as it can tell a whole different
story, and show so may different deep emotions and feelings in one painting. Expressionism is one
of the most popular types of art in the later 19th and the 20th centuries. It shows an individual,
impulsive, self expressionate piece of art.
Edvard Munch used a range of expressive colours like Reds, dark blues, and oranges. The sky is
filled with fiery reds and oranges. This could represent the anger, frustration in the artist life.
The ocean is filled with cold blues and greens. This could symbolise depression despair and
misery in Edvard Munch s life. There is also a whirlpool in the middle of the ocean. Where there
looks like there are a few boats are getting pulled in. I think this represents that Edvard Munch is
stuck in the middle of emotions, fury and anger or depression and misery of the loss of his family.
They are both trying to suck him in and he is trying to escape. There are 2 other boats in the picture.
I thought that these might symbolise other

Calcium Metabolism and Calcium Homeostasis Essays
Calcium regulation has significant effects on the human body s capacity to maintain homeostasis.
Around 99% of the body s calcium is found within the skeleton in the form of calcium salts. The
remaining 1% is found in blood and controlled within a very narrow range by an elaborate system
of controls to provide for fundamental processes (Marieb Hoehn 2010). Calciumis the most
abundant cation found in human bodies, vital to normal function of a host of processes including:
nerve excitability, hormone secretion, blood clotting, taste transduction, musclefunction and cellular
adhesion (Hutchins 2014). This essay will outline some of the more important roles of calcium
metabolism. The essay will begin by discussing how calcium provides... Show more content on

A very narrow range of 9 11 mg per dl of calcium in blood is maintained by a negative feedback
hormonal loop (Formation 2013). The thyroid gland secretes parathyroid hormone (PTH) in
response to low calcium in the blood detected by the g protein coupled receptor. PTH activates
bone digesting Osteoclasts, which move along a bone surface, breaking down the matrix and in
turn release Ca2+ and HPO42 . Calcium salts are converted into soluble forms by the
hydrochloric acid secreted by the ruffle border of the Osteoclast. Bones can become so de
mineralised that they develop large holes when blood calcium levels are too low for an extended
period of time (Marieb Hoehn 2010). Extracellular calcium levels between 9 11ng or higher results
in the binding of calcium to the receptor inhibiting the secretion of PTH. Without the bodies
capacity to detect changes in ECF calcium concentration, voltage gated ion channels can become
unstable and result in hyperactivity of muscle and nerve cells (Humoral Regualtion 2013).
According to the Harvard health publication: Calcium beyond the bones, fundamental processes
such as growth may be underdeveloped or calcium may be deposited in soft tissues such as the
heart and lungs when there is excess or inadequate levels of calcium (Calcium 2010). Most calcium
deposits are benign however

Successful Business Success
There are many businesses that have failed and many business owners who can attest to the pain of
failure. Fortunately, business owners don t give up easily. They learn from mistakes to forge onto
success. It s because of their failures they can impart their wisdom in preventing the same mistakes.
The initial and biggest dilemma is how to prioritize focus. Business owners get pulled into so many
directions, they multitask and can easily get off track. This can start well before a business is
even off the ground. After scouring many books, articles and resources, steps to establish a
successful business can be categorized into 4 areas: Team, Operations, Planning and Profit or TOPP

Read pages 650 658 and 671 675 in your textbook and then answer the following questions.
Characteristics of Populations
1. a)In order to study populations, scientists need to be able to describe a population. What are
THREE different measurements that scientists use to describe populations?
Scientists use population size, population density, and population dispersion to describe populations.
b)Define the terms population size and population density. How do these two terms differ from one
another?
Population size refers to the estimated total number of individuals of a specific species in a given
habitat or area at a given time. Population density is the number of individuals of a specific ... Show

However, organisms do not use up all of the space accounted for when measuring population size
and crude density. Ecological density is only concerned with the space the organism uses. It is
determined by dividing population size by usable space. For example, for the ecological density of
moose in Algonquin Park, the entire area of Algonquin Park would not be considered, but only the
area in which the moose live would be used.
b)Why is this distinction (i.e., crude versus ecological density) necessary? Which of these two
measures of density is typically higher?
This distinction is necessary because the crude population density may be very misleading. A
population of individuals may be living much more clustered together than the crude density may
indicate, so the ecological density would give a more accurate depiction. However, if someone is
researching the population dymanics given boundaries of a specified habitat or area, then the crude
density would represent the total density of that population in that given space. Of the two,
ecological density is typically higher because the useful space is usually less than the total space.

UNC Wilmington s Lesson Essay
The aftermath of Hurricane Matthew rivals the damage left by Hurricane Katrina, the damage
costs upwards of $1.5 billion for North Carolina alone. The water has yet to recede blocking
major roadways that are the only means of travel for the approximately 14,000 UNC Wilmington
students to get back on campus. Chancellor Sartarelli cancelled classes on Monday and Tuesday
and later sent another email to resume classes on Wednesday making students scramble to find a
way back.
Samantha Dickerson, a freshman at UNC Wilmington, is from Hillsborough, North Carolina an area
unaffected by the flooding. She made her way back to campus on Monday, and event that could be
summed up in two words, scary and ridiculous.

Wilmington said they justified their ridiculous actions by saying our teachers would understand us
missing class, but every teacher is different. Some teachers will not accept any absences no matter
the circumstances, this was definitely not an exception, said Dickerson.
When Dickerson reflected on the whole situation, she said UNC Wilmington put students in danger
and will not own up to it.
The trek back to UNC Wilmington for the students after Hurricane Matthew was a nightmare.
According to the North Carolina Department of Public Safety, the Tar, Lumber, Cape Fear, and
Neuse rivers were still rising and had yet to crest. Students had to find any route they could to return
in time for class on Wednesday, which had students panicking.
Jessica Goldberg, a freshman at UNC Wilmington, stayed safe in her home in Charlotte, North
Carolina away from the damaging wind rain of Hurricane Matthew.
She did not leave Charlotte until early Wednesday morning because of flooding on I 74. She was
angry that she had to miss class but did not want to risk driving through the flooding and felt it was

A Worn Path Analysis
In A Worn Path , by Eudora Welty, we join Phoenix Jackson on her routine voyage to town for the
medicine her grandson needs to survive. Throughout this short story, it is obvious that there are
themes of persistence, struggle, and love. This struggle to the town is made apparent and is
emphasized by the stories setting along with the use of symbolism, and mood/atmosphere of the
story. The driving force behind the plot is this theme of persistence through the struggles and the
idea that loveconquers all, adds to Jacksons journey to the town to get the medicine. As Jackson
makes her way she faces hurdles that would make a normal person turn back, such as the barbed
wire fence (Welty, 503). But instead, Jackson carries on. I personally interpret that as a great
statement of love. Jackson was willing to go through barbed wire fences to help her grandson. In
addition, she not only was willing to go through the barbed wires but also was willing to beg so
that she could get her grandson a toy. Nothing stopped Jackson from doing all that she could for
her familyand to me that means more than anything. Symbolism plays a large part in the telling
of this story. Symbolism can be found in Phoenix Jackson s name just as much as in the small
toy she buys her grandson. The name Phoenix is referencing a mythical bird that is believed to
live in the desert and is capable of living up to 600 years. The Phoenix is said to set itself on fire
only to rise once again from its ashes. The symbol of the Phoenix expresses the endurance and
resilience of Phoenix Jackson. As she makes her way down the path she is embodying the long
lasting characteristic of the Phoenix. In addition, Jackson is constantly picking herself back up,
and keeping herself together. Just like the mythical bird, Jackson manages to continue on the
harsh and tortuous path, rising from her own ashes, all out of love for her grandson. While the
symbol of the phoenix is obvious, one might skip over the message behind the small toy Jackson
bought for her grandson. The pinwheel, or windmill as Jackson called it, is a circular collection of
blades that are pushed and turned in a continuous circular pattern by either wind or force (Welty,
507). This symbol

The Classical Period Of Greek Art
The beautiful Three Sided Relief , also known as the Boston Throne , is a treasure
of the Museum of Fine Arts, as it is an original relief from the Early Classical Period of Greek
art. Though it was found in Rome, it is not a Roman copy of the relief, which makes it
incredibly unique. The Three Sided Relief was found in a private villa on via Boncampagni.
The intriguing part of this discovery was that the Three Sided Relief was found in the same
region as the Ludovisi Relief, a relief of a similar proportion, subject matter, and creation
date. The artwork, though found in Rome, is very easily identified as Greek due to the
material used (marble) and also the distinctly Greek style of the relief, containing
reference to both Ionic Greek agriculture and Attic grave reliefs. Greeks used their art
much more religiously than the Romans, who used it more for political propaganda
purposes. Artwork to the Greeks was used to honor their gods and decorate the temples
they erected to celebrate their gods.
The main face of the Three Sided Relief depicts a winged boy in the nude standing in
the center of the relief, and holding up a large balance. There are three large holes cut into
the relief, one in each wing of the boy and another in his chest. These holes were made to
receive the ends of tenons, proving that the now lost beam was made of marble, not bronze.
The two pans of the balance are still attached to the relief, as they are anchored to the

How Not To Get Into College Essay
The Idea of Being Molded
The texts Manhood, by John Wain and How Not to Get Into College, by Alfie Kohn illustrate
similarities and differences that are directly related to the lives of people in today s society. Both
texts represent the idea of rigid social expectations challenging people to re evaluate their
perspectives on intrinsic happiness and to live up to others standards in order to gain approval of
happiness, resulting in extrinsic happiness. In Manhood , the rigid social expectations are portrayed
thorough the relationship between father and son and in How Not to Get into college they are
portrayed through the scenarios of students.
In their texts, Wain and Kohn demonstrate the importance of achieving intrinsic happiness. Often,...

Rob loses his intrinsic happiness to relive his father s dreams of achieving physical heritage
traits. Also, in the Miami Herald newspaper by Cindy Krischer , the son says, ...Too much for
my dad to run the business alone. I felt a responsibility to take an active role . Again, similar to
the character in Wain s, Manhood, the son feels that he has to take on the role of his father. Next,
Kohn s How Not to Get into College demonstrates that there are constant expectations from
teachers and parents of students. The author displays sarcasm in his words when he says, Let

Stars As Commodities
Furthermore, the market functions are what forms their most important aspect of all; increasing
economic advantages. The market and the industry are part of the labour that produces and
distributes; both factors interrelate with each other. However, stars contribute themselves into
making commodities; both labour and what labour produces. Dyer (2005) argues stars as
commodities are distributed in several stages. Firstly, successful commodities are created from
stars with a reputable image, as the work of fashioning the star out of the raw material of the
person, varies in the degree to which it respects what artists refer to as inherent qualities of the
material; make up, coiffure, clothing, dieting and body building can all make more or less... Show

The emphasis on human emptiness is compared to contemporary society where culture must be
somewhat positive which produces the status quo; which does not mean that art is affirmative of
bourgeois values, for to affirm those values, however limited they are, is still to affirm a value, a
positive quality, to set against the tawdriness of the achievements of bourgeois society (Dyer, 2002,
p. 13). However, Dyer (2002) argues certain objections of sheer manipulation; firstly, not all
manipulation works due to stars fluctuating audience responses from their careers, i.e.: Anna Sten
in The Great Stars. In contradiction to Boorstin and Marcuse, Dyer s interpretation of manipulation
are raised against the view of the star phenomenon. Boorstin and Marcuse do not examine the
content of star images, but solely focus on the stars outer appearances and superficial content;
where the stars images are seen as acceptable in the medium and/or seen in context to their roles or
filmic representations (Dyer, 2002, p. 14). Due to fluctuating audience control and outward
appearance used as manipulation, Boorstin and Marcuse identify human consciousness to play a
critical role in manipulation as it becomes dependent towards the behavioural

The charter school conflict exists because there are some people for it and some people against it.
According to, The Premier Online Debate Website, arguments of those of charter school is that it
allows individuals or groups with innovative educational ideas to put them into practice without
being controlled by local or state administration. These schools may have unconventional hours,
experiment with curricula, specialize in certain types of teaching or design programs tailored to a
particular audience or community. They believe that charter schools provide quality educationand
they allow teachers to try new teaching methods which allows students to develop under new
education styles because charter schools have less regulation. It can introduce the ingredient of a
measure of needed competition in the public schools. According to Sarah Cordes and Institute for
Education and Social Policy (IESP) New York University, charter school growth means that more
students have opportunities to attend charters and that more traditional public schools face
competition from charters in the local school marketplace . They may provide for more
accountability because schools that work will be rewarded and those that do not will be changed
or even closed.
However, the other side argues that charter schools do not outperform traditional public schools.
Charter schools may not be equally available to all students and

My Side of the Mountain by Jean Craighead George
This book is told from the diary of the main character, Sam Gribley. Sam is a boy full of
determination. He didn t give up and go home like everyone thought he would. He is strong of
mind. After the first night in the freezing rain, with no fire and no food, he still went on. He is a

even when everyone expected him to fail. The land is no place for a Gribley p. 9

screamed and yelled some more and walked away. Sam named him the Baron due to his royal
behavior. Another friend of his was a raccoon, which he dubbed, Jessie Coon James.
As I had pointed out before his diet was varied. Among the things he ate were: caught fresh
mussels, trout, frogs, turtles, and crayfish. He ate apples, wild strawberries, wild dandelion
greens, bloodroots, and cattail roots. He made salt from boiling birch bark to season his food with.
He did manage to retrieve a deer a poacher had shot. That was pretty scary though, as the poacher
came to his camp looking for the deer. After skinning the deer he tanned the hide in an old oak
stump. He felled the stump, burned a hole in it, and put the deerskin in it for five days, then took
it out to dry. He was able to dry deer meat, make a door for his house, made leg straps (called
jesses) for Frightful, and used the bones for spearheads.
One day in the woods he noticed a falcon, watched it, felt she had a nest, followed her, climb the
steep sheer cliffs, and retrieved a young falcon. The mother came back to the nest just as Sam was
taking the bird. She attacked Sam until she discovered there were still two more babies in the nest.
Sam named his falcon Frightful, as the experience was just that.

Hayeks Contribution to the Business Cycle Essay
Hayeks Contribution to the Business Cycle
Friedirch August von Hayek was born in Vienna on May 8, 1899 and died on March 23, 1992, in
the city of Freiburg in Breisgan in Germany. Hayek was a central figure in 20th century economics
and he represented the Austrian tradition. After Hayek served military service, he became a student
at the University of Vienna where he got his doctorate in law and political science. In 1923 4, Hayek
visited New York and then returned to Vienna where he continued his work. Hayek became the
first director of the Austrian Institute for Business Cycle Research in 1927. He also gave some
lectures in England at the London School of Economics in 1931. In England, he participated in
such debates as monetary, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He showed how sudden injection of credit into economy could cause changes in the relative prices
between goods and lead to overinvestment that cannot be maintained. When money and credit vary,
it sets up a train of events which draws resources into places where they would not normally go. In
particular, an increase in credit stimulates investment (Butler, 8). Thus, Hayek shows that it is a
response to the false signal of new credit being created, and therefore this investment cannot be
maintained.
Hayek concentrates on the initial disturbance that starts a cycle. It is used to create new bank
credit in the shape of unwarranted advances to enterprises. He considers money (credit) as a factor
to explain the cycle theory.
The elasticity of the money supply (MV) is what allows and facilitates the disequilibria of business
cycles. By expanding the currency, malinvestments in capital are generated, which are not
productive enough to be maintained (Haney, 681).
Having said this, Hayek makes two points here. He talks about voluntary saving and enterprisers
anticipation of rising prices. The former is concerned with the changes in capital structure brought
about by changes in the volume of money. It is the difference between voluntary saving and the
creation of new credit currency by banks. In particular, Hayek describes the self reversing real
effects of credit expansion. He states

Formal Is Not A Rite Of Passage
The definition of ritual is: a patterned, repetitive and symbolic enactment of a cultural belief or
value (Davis Floyd, as cited in Dubisch, p.279). With that, I realized had my theme: a Formal. In
college the equivalent to a Prom are Formals. Nevertheless, like a Prom, Formals have many
cultural beliefs and values, from tuxedos and dresses to what to eat, and how to dance. Formals
are supposed to fun and memorable, and how you and your date choose to make create those
memories. As with all rituals, Formals have traditional preparations and symbols that have true
cultural beliefs and values. In this paper, I will argue that Formals are not only a ritual, but a riteof
passage, mostly for the girl, but as a guy you can help make it memorable by using symbols that
have meaning and will make the night unforgettable.
Beliefs and Cultures
Formals, like Prom are part of the American Culture. In fact, it is a cultural ritual because it has
intentional symbolic meaning; it is a rite of passage. From clothing, to music, to who you ask is all
part of the social bond of Formals. The biggest, most important part and daunting moment is asking

something that has never changed, nor should. Every person comes out with a different perspective

President Ronald Reagan And President Reagan
Being president is a huge responsibility, and there are some who have done an excellent job.
Then there are others who have made our economy, as well as our country, go down the drain.
However, I have to hand it to President Ronald Wilson Reagan, because the time he was in office
he really pumped the country up, and did a tremendous job running it as well as helping in every
way he could. Ronald Reaganwas born on February 6, 1911, in Tampico, Illinois. Reagan passed
away June 5, 2004, and was buried in Simi Valley, California. He graduated from Eureka College
in 1932 with a Bachelor s of Arts degree in social science and economics. Before Mr. Reagan was
president he was also an actor, and performed in 53 different movies. He was of the Christian
religion. President Ronald Reagan was the 40th president, and part of the Republican party. The
First Lady was Nancy Reagan, and the Vice President was George H.W. Bush while Ronald
Reagan was in office. They were successful with two terms together from 1981 until 1989.
Obviously Reagan liked politics, and definitely caught his attention since that is what he
graduated from college with. But, his political views really shifted from liberal to republican in
the 1960 s while supporting Nixon in Nixon s campaign in California against Pat Brown. Reagan
did quite a few General Electric speeches for Nixon as well in his campaign. The result from these
speeches was merely freedom is what the people got from these speeches.

Krasnolutska also states that the Israeli eastern European organ trafficking rings extended their
reach to the United States. In July 2009, the Justice Department charged Levy Rosenbaum, an
Israeli in New York, with conspiracy of human organ trafficking. A Federal Bureau of
Investigation agent caught Rosenbaum offering a kidney for $160,000 (Budiani Saberi 37).
Laws designed to prevent trafficking are currently unsuccessful. While prosecutors in places such
as Israel, Brazil, Kosovo and Ukraine have successfully eliminated some of the organ trading
gangs, they re still fighting powerful economic forces. As long as there s a worldwide shortage of
legal donors for life saving transplants, the exploitation of the poor will only grow. Unless
governments around the world enforce existing laws on prohibiting procedures, the traffickers will
continue to cultivate a growing legion of impoverished organ sellers who end up with an immense
wad of cash, says Glovin (Budiani Saberi 39 40). As a result, suspicions of organ trades between
Hong Kong and China in 1989 caused the Tiananmen Square massacre arose. The Amnesty
International noted an increase in China s submissions for the death penalty, and reported on the
use of executed prisoners organs without their consent. Dr. Ronald D. Guttman, a McGill

executed prisoners. Along with Ronald Guttman was Forsythe stating that

Taking a Look at Local Produce
My topic is local produce. I chose this topic because I am really interested in the different types of
food people consume and how it affects their health.
The big question I will be answering is whether or not to buy local or non local foods. I will go
over which is safer for the economy, the environment, and people. After I research this, I will then
find which one is better to buy. This is a question that each person should ponder before deciding
which type of food to buy. My hypothesis is that eating locally will be better and safer for everyone.
Do you often find that the foods in your fridge are nonlocal?
There are many negative things to contemplate when deciding what type of foods to buy. Issues
upon this topic include foodborne illnesses, also known as food poisoning, incorrect processing
and handling and preparation of meats, and bacteria. Many multi state waves in which have
infected many hundreds of people have lately been traced back to specific farms, food processors,
and specific food handlers. (As stated by sustainabletable.org)
Some major issues with buying non local foods that have an effect of the earth are pesticides and
steroids. They can be put into these foods and can seriously harm the consumer.
Pesticides are made to kill pests to the plant, but they often hurt humans instead. By buying local
food, your chances of eating foods that contain pesticides become less likely. When foods are
grown locally, they are generally in season because they do not

Things Fall Apart Opposites do not Attract
In Things Fall Apart, by Chinua Achebe, Mr. Brown, the first missionary in Umuofia, was a kind
and respectful man. Not to say that Reverend James Smith was not, but his degree of kindness and
respect were present in a whole different level. They both wanted to convert the lost, all those in
Umuofia that were not in the church. Mr. Brown made friends with the clan and trod softly on his
faith, (pg.178) while Mr. Smith told them how things were in a harsh voice and tried to force his
religion on the people of Umuofia. The impacts the two had on the people and the church were

Brown, more people flooded into his school. Mr. Brown s school not only taught them how to speak

Mr. Smith, on the other, hand was very harsh and saw things as black and white. And black was
evil... (pg.184). That unfortunate turn of phrase was indicative of ignorance and his attitude from
the beginning toward the natives of Umuofia who were dark skinned. Under his control, or one

Once the egwugwu went to confront Mr. Smith for the killing of one of their members, Mr. Brown

The Ideal System For Preventive Services
First, the ideal system would integrate financing and delivery, not necessarily as in common
ownership, but in the sense of incentive alignment and collaboration and coordination. Providers
would accept responsibility for managing resources and benefit from improving care processes.
This has to mean per capita prepayment so that one can transfer resources smoothly from acute
care to preventive services when we can decide which preventive services will reduce needs for
acute care. Also, the ideal system would integrate providers and populations, so that the providers
could plan for or contract with the right resources to care for their defined populations and be able
to practice population medicine. From this would emerge an appropriate emphasis on primary care
and prevention. There should be an integration of the full spectrum or continuum of care inpatient,
outpatient, primary care, home care to provide care in the least costly and most appropriate
setting, so that care in the different settings is integrated. One organization would control and be
responsible for all the processes so that quality lapses arising from missed handoffs could be
addressed and corrected, rather than blaming them on the other party. The ideal system would
integrate medical groups or associations to assure that the right specialty mix was there and that
there is teamwork in referrals and care processes. And there would be optimum use of para
medicals. Doctors should be integrated with hospitals, so

Ernest Becker Response To Death
Is Ernest Becker correct in arguing that the terror of death shapes societal attitudes? What are the
different emotional and intellectual responses to death and how significant do you think they are?
Ernest Becker was a cultural anthropologist who believed that the characters of individuals in
society are shaped by a process of deathdenial and death anxiety. Due to the contradiction of
humans being an emergent life that does not seem to have any more meaning than a non emergent
life (CITE birth and death). Through this process of mortality denial, an individual could continue
to function and tame the inevitability and the terror of death through the creation of systems and

(CITE tmt) Terror management underlies the conflict human s face due to their desire to live and
the terror and anxiety they feel due to their knowledge of the certainty of death. They combat the
terror of death by erecting defences against death (CITE denial of death ). Terror management
theory suggests that people learn to alleviate their fear of death by finding meaning in life and

the Earth was actually in the rotation, with a simple repeatable experiment. Thus, the Foucault

to the ceiling by both ends. The wire holding it was then burned at one end to release it into motion
there were multiple pegs on the ground that were knocked over when the Pendulum rotated position
(Foucault Pendulum). The way the Pendulum was released would not cause an experimental error
by adding direction in the way it would if a person released it. Pendulums are known to swing in
straight planes so the rotation must be caused by the Earth beneath it. The experiment was also
repeated multiple times by various scientists to prove the credibly. With multiple testings and
repeated experimental trials the Pendulum always behaved the same way. The Pendulum stayed in
motion and continues to swing rotating around the room. The Pendulum mimics the way our Earth
rotates proving that it is in constant

Atomic Bomb Definition Essay
ATOMIC NUMBER MASS atomic no. refers to no. of protons in the nucleus (determines what each
element is)
Atomic mass equals total mass of protons, neutrons and electrons.
The atomic number and atomic mass increases as you go both across the period and down the
group. The atomic mass and the atomic number increases as the nuclei gaining more neutrons and
protons.
Going left to right on the periodic table, the atomic mass increases as protons are being added to the
nucleus, more protons attract the outer electrons the nucleus bringing them closer to the nucleus.
ATOMIC RADIUS helps measure the size of its atoms, usually distance between nucleus and its
valence electrons.
Atomic radius increases moving down a group as energy levels ... Show more content on

Electrons increase, which atoms contribute to the sea of electrons . The melting point rises due to
bigger molecules meaning the heat energy supply must also get bigger.
Moving across the period metals generally have a high melting point while most non metals have
low melting points.
The particles in a solid are held together by intermolecular forces and to convert a solid into liquid
you therefore must overcome the forces.
Going down group 1, when any of the metals are melted, the bond (metallic) has been weakened so
the atoms then can more freely, the decrease in melting point when going down the group shows a
decrease in strength.
Going down group 4, the bonds change from covalent to metallic, decreasing the strength of the
bonds as atoms increase and the bonds get bigger.
melting point decreases as molecules get bigger, therefore the probability of temporary dipoles
occurring increases and this is responsible for the attractions. Molecules with greater dipoles need
more energy to break these bonds causing the melting point to be higher.
DENSITY is the relationship between the mass and volume of a substance
Density will increase when going down the group as mass has a large increment compared to

An Ethnographic Study On Individuals And Groups
For my project proposal, I decided to do an ethnographic study on individuals and groups in
airports. I have noticed that when I travel, I normally choose not to hold conversations with other
people even though I am closed and confined quarters for long periods of time. Therefore, I wanted
to observe if people interact more with their devices than with each other. Prior to my observations,
I assumed that crosstalk is limited, and that technologies result in social isolation. I believed that the
airportwas a good place to conduct my study because it is a semi public sphere that has frequent
foot traffic.
My hypothesis is that devices have decreased co location and increased co presence is more
prevalent in airport terminals. Before my research, my assumption was that the desire to disengage
from the physical location was great because of the limited amount of ways that the airport terminal
has to occupy time. I assumed that if there are people in the public space, most will be engaged
or preoccupied with their technological device rather than engaging one another. I observed
people ages 20 65, ranging from college students to retirees. I noted their reactions, their electronic
device usage, their interactions (if any), and in specific cases, their conversations. I took the first
study at 9:00 PM on Friday, March 21 at the SFO terminal. During this day I saw single young
adults, a mom with her daughters, a Cantonese family, a father and daughter, and an old couple. I

Speech On Discipline In School
Discipline is a practice of knowledge and preparation that extend self control, regulation and
character s efficiency. In other words, discipline means the process of educating people to follow
rules using punishment to accurate disobedience. Self discipline means the capability to control
someone s feelings and to overcome weaknesses. It is allegation of determination over desires and
more specifically it is frequently understood to be the synonym of self control so self disciplineto
some degree, we can say a replacement for mental maturation.

As Parents wants the environment where the child performance will improve putting less burden

to seek out a workable approach for the solution of such conflicts. Discipline should be enforced in

Values Of Solidarity And Tolerance Towards Immigration
values of solidarity and tolerance towards immigration, as proved by the deliberate media
overrepresentation of a number of recurrent tropes.
The key idea is that such celebratory rhetorics on the perks of multiculturalism, though, were not
entirely successful at hiding the existence of a notable social base advocating xenophobic values
and violent actions against immigrants (more than 100,000 Moroccan immigrants had settled in
Spain by the end of the nineties): todo permite suponer que la inmensa mayorГa de la poblaciГіn no
asimila, no comprende, no comparte, o acepta de mala gana, valores tales como la solidaridad o la
tolerancia. AsГ se explicarГan, al menos parcialmente, los estallidos de violencia contra los
The economic prosperity of Spain between 1997 and 2007, together with a strong recession back
home, motivated the biggest flow of Maghrebian immigration into the country in recent history (e.g
the Moroccan population alone went from 173,000 inhabitants in 2000 to 783,000 in 2012 [Actis,

American Literature
On May 12, 1932, the tiny body of one year old Charles Augustus Lindbergh Jr. was found in the
woods in Trenton, New Jersey. The coroner s report stated that the child had been dead for over
two months. The child s skull had a hole in it as well as several other fractures, and the coroner
ruled the cause of death a blow to the head. Several of the child s body parts were also missing.
On February 13, 1935 a jury in Flemington found Bruno Richard Hauptmann. He was charged first
degree murder in the kidnapping death of the infant son of famed aviator Charles Lindbergh and
Anne Lindbergh. Hauptmann was sentenced to death and then later on was executed. The
investigators did not find ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through a wild series of events, including ransom money and false accusations, Daisy s death led to
the death of both of her parents and her nanny. And still, the culprit, gangster Lanfranco Cassetti,
went free on a technicality. If the details of the Armstrong case sound familiar, it s because Christie
based the story on one of the most notorious crimes of the 20th century: the kidnapping of the
Lindbergh baby.Agatha Christie lifted the case for the Murder on the Orient Express when she
made the subplot of the Armstrong kidnapping case. In Murder on the Orient Express, the little
victim is a girl named Daisy Armstrong. After her corpse is found, her pregnant mother dies due to
complications from a miscarriage. The devastated father shoots himself, and an innocent servant
under suspicion commits suicide by defenestration. Christie found it necessary to add the additional
deaths to heighten the tragedy and for important plot purposes. In real life, Charles and Anne
Morrow Lindbergh survived although the heartbreak naturally took an emotional toll on them and
had five more healthy children. On the Murder on the Orient Express, there is no doubt about the
guilt of the kidnapper, who escapes conventional justice by using bribery to receive a not guilty

A Summary On Automatic Network Monitoring
Business Proposal Title Automatic Network Monitoring IP Routing System Name Aniket Tayade
SJSU ID 010720034 Executive Summary: Today, the Internet has become one of the basic
necessity in our lives. It is difficult to imagine our life without the Internet. Many companies today
are completely dependent on the efficient working of the Internet for example, Banks, Social
Networking Websites and E Commerce to name a few. A slight glitch in the working of the Internet
can cause these companies to incur losses in millions of dollars. So such companies demand for

HP have been contributing in the field of network architecture, SDN, BYOD virtualization from a
very long time. Market Research: In recent times, many companies are coming up with various
network monitoring analysis tools. But these tools are restricted in giving the network topology
and traffic analysis. Further such tools are too costly. Still such tools have huge demand in the
market, as it simplifies the network management process by a great deal. Also with the expansion
of Software Defined Network, network analysis space is gaining a tremendous amount of
importance since such tools are needed to refine the network performance. For example, Birch
Communications is planning to develop a real time monitoring tool (SAM) to assist its customer
for network analysis. Similarly, various companies like SolarWinds, Juniper Network and many
more are constantly striving hard to make progress in this perspective. Business Concept: The idea
of developing such product that automates routing and helps in analyzing network came from the
troubles that a network administrator had to face in resolving network issues in the backbone of the
Internet. External Gateway Protocol (EGP) are incapable of adjusting to the network anomalies
easily. Moreover, hackers can also introduce delays, loops that affect the network connectivity and
operations. Hence to resolve these issues at faster rate the network administrator requires a

Essay on Comparing the Two Versions of To Build a Fire
Comparing the Two Versions of To Build a Fire
I am absolutely confident that beyond the motif itself, there is no similarity of treatment
whatever (544). Jack London, writing in December 1908, was responding to an inquiry from the
Richard W. Gilder, editor of Century Magazine. Gilder, having just published To Build a Fire in
his magazine, was worried when he came across another version published 6 years earlier. London
s explanation was that the first story was for boys and the new one was for men; the only similarity
being the motif itself. Through careful analysis of the two stories, in light of this letter to Gilder,
and another letter to Cloudesly Johns, it is apparent that although London claims no similarities ...

This ending more clearly illustrates the dangers of the Klondike. The first version is more a
morality tale, ending with the moral of Never travel alone! (62). The second version is more of a
good short story, with the ending that is, regrettably, all too common in that part of the world. The
main character never gets a chance to change his ways and travel with a companion the proverbial
next time. He learns the lesson with the most severest of consequences: death. Another interesting
difference is the fact that in the 1902 version the main character is Tom Vincent; however in the
second version, the man has no name. This gives the main character in the 1908 version a feeling
of universality.
In 1900, before either of these two stories was published, Jack London wrote a letter to a good
friend, Cloudesly Johns, explaining his philosophy on good fiction writing. This letter is an
invaluable resource when studying the work of Jack London, especially when comparing the two
versions of To Build a Fire. London emphasized quite a bit in this letter with many exclamation
points and capital letters. That was only because of the passion with which he was writing about
writing. His main point was to not be to scientific, or empirically (530) scientific. He explains not
to tell the reader what your philosophy is, but rather to have the characters tell it by their deeds,
actions, talk, etc. (531). He then moves on to talk about atmosphere, and

Essay On Romantic Love
Love is an abundant emotion that has different degrees. There is familial love, friendly love,
unconditional love, and of course romantic love. Romantic love will be the superstar of this article.
Romantic love may be around every corner whether between an old couple or a young teenage
romance. However, loveis not the easiest thing to attain. It is such a simple concept, though a
difficult thing to actually have a person s hands on.
Most people nowadays will yearn for something more commonly known as true love. True love
can be explained in a sense that it is a person we may or may not consider as a soul mate. It can be
someone we love to a certain degree that we feel happy, complete, and contented.
The definition may be thrown out there in whatever way, but meeting eye to eye with said true love
comes with certain complexity.
In other times, we may be thrown off. What we think could be considered love may not actually be
love.
Though before knowing how to find love, one must know the basics when it comes to the act of
loving in general.
PsychologyToday.com records research on love.
According to said research, vital things to a deep kind of love are physical attraction and a certain
level of intimacy, which follow through with companionship that you feel towards the other person.
The following can lead to difficulty because, in a sense, people of today are inclined towards an
ideal view of romance. People are blinded by what they see in the media and relate whatever

Paladins
Out of the many different classes to choose, I chose Paladin for several particular reasons.
Paladins are devoted healers, and they are extremely hard to kill, which are two major
advantages of being a Paladin. Paladins have holy power which is the ability used to maintain a
rotation in any environment. Paladins can also use Holy Shock or Crusader Strike to contain
Holy Power charges. There are two types of blessings that can be given to any player as long as
they are in the same group as the Paladin. The Blessing of Kings and Blessing of Might. The
Blessing of Kings increases the players strength, agility, stamina, intellect, and all magical
resistances. Blessing of Might increases attack power and regeneration of targets. Paladins... Show

When playing as a Holy Paladin, you are harder to take down when being attacked. Also, they do
not suffer as much when they are attacked. You can play as a Retribution Paladin, which are
phenomenal damage dealers and they focus on killing their enemies. A Protection Paladin are
tanks that can hold their own against a group of enemies and they make certain that the targets
which aren t being hit focus on the protection paladin himself instead of the damage dealers or
healers. An Aura is a permanent buff that assist an entire party, as long as the members are
within forty yards of the Paladin. There are five different types of Auras; devotion aura,
retribution aura, concentration aura, resistance aura, and crusader aura. Only one Aura can be
used at a time, but if there are several Paladins in a group, they may all use different Auras. If two
Paladins use the same Aura, it will not double your armor. Some of the disadvantages are that the
Paladin kills slowly. Compared to some of the other classes, the Paladin does minor damage.
Although the Paladin is a healer, the magic defense is not valuable unless suitably talented. Unless
you play as the Retribution Paladin, some of the armor and equipment does not accurately work

Analysis Of Place Beyond The Pines
Directed by Derek Cianfrance, Place Beyond the Pines (2012) is a multigenerational crime based
drama that changes narratives multiple times throughout the film. Following Ryan Gosling s
character s transition as he learns that he is a father, Bradley Cooper as the hero cop with both
ambitions and a conscious, and then both of their sons (Dane Dehaan, Emery Cohen) dealing with
growing up without present fathers. This multitude of narratives allows the viewer an insight into
how each character defines masculinity and the role of being a man. Ryan Gosling, a traveling
motorcycle stuntman, after learning that he has a son, quits his job in an attempt to be present in
the baby s life, unlike his own father. With little persuasion from his landlord and roommate, he
resorts to bank robbery in pursuit to provide for his new family. After eventually being caught and
killed by a trigger happy rookie cop, (Bradley Cooper) the narrative changes to the new father
and now hero cop. Bradley Cooper, an ex lawyer whose father was also a cop, lies about who shot
first to save both his reputation and his career, deals with the guilt by focusing on his ambitions and
shutting off his wife and newborn. The final narrative transition, where both sons, now teenagers,
meet and form a friendship despite not knowing their father s pasts. Dane Dehaan, a privileged but
rebellious thug with a distant father, and Emery, a loner pothead struggling with both his own
identity and of his biological father,

Essay on Emergency Contraception
The idea of Emergency Contraception is not a new to society, however it is still igniting many
debates just as it did when it was first introduced to the United States. Emergency contraception
continues to be a highly emotional and controversial issue, both for advocates who believe EC will
lower the number of unintended pregnancies and abortions, and for opponents who believe that
using EC amounts to an abortion. The controversy fueling this debate centers around one of the
ways that emergency contraception works. Emergency contraception can prevent or delay
ovulation, affect the movement of the egg or sperm: making them less likely to meet, it can also
interfere with the fertilization process and prevent implantation of a fertilized egg.... Show more

Some argue that a girl can get an abortion without parental notification in some states, so why not
Plan B. While parents would like their children to wait as long as possible to begin having sex,
the reality is that teens are having sex much younger than many parents think. Some teens, or
preteens, begin having sex or engaging in sexual behavior in junior high. By the time they are
seniors in high school, an estimated 65 percent of teens have had sex, according to the Center
for Disease Control and Prevention s Youth Risk Behavior Survey, 2007. (Dawn, 2009).
Unfortunately, a percentage of those teens will become pregnant. After more than a decade and a
half of decline (a 27 percent drop from 1991 to 2000), teen birth rates rose again in 2006, which
was the last year for which data are available. It is still unclear on what caused teen birth rates to
rise again, with supporters of abstinence only sex education programs and contraception based
programs each blaming the other side for the increase. However, a 2007 study in the Journal of
American Public Health attributed the trend in decreasing pregnancy rates to improved
contraception use among teens during that time. (Anderson Orr, 2009). Providing information

CHAPTER 1 1 INTRODUCTION For the past decades, scientific computation has been a popular
research tool among scientists and engineers from numerous areas, including climate modelling,
computational chemistry, and bioinformatics .With the maturing of application algorithms,
developing high performance computing platforms that satisfy the increasing computational
demands, search spaces, and data volume have become a huge challenge. As predicted by Moore s

Various representation systems were introduced to represent signed integer numbers, including
signed magnitude, biased, and complement systems .Both the signed and unsigned integer
representations can be extended to encode fractional data by employing an implicit or explicit
radix point that denotes the scaling factor. These integer based real number representations are
generally called fixed point systems, where the term fixed point implies that the scaling factor is
constant during the computation without externally reconfigured. As a result, the precision (least
represent able value of the unit in the last place, for a fixed point number system cannot be
improved without sacrificing its represent able value range. Floating point representation on the
other hand provides not only the ability for wide dynamic range support, but also high precision
for small values. A typical floating point number is represented in four components, and its value
can be calculated with the equation. x = В± s Г— be, where s is the significant and e is the biased
exponent (with implicit bias). The standard precision of

Analysis Of The Novel The Thousand Faces Of Night
Realism and fantasy interplay in the narrative to focus on the emerging self. It is a self that endures
suffering, but it is a suffering that leads to self understanding and an inward strength to break loose
from past thoughts and experiences that are negative. (174)
In fact, the novel presents the real life characters the issue of gender exploitation faced by them.
Hariharan in The Thousand Faces of Night presents the travails of women who crave for love and
sympathy but are, paradoxically enough, victims of their own gender.
The next novel The Ghost of Vasu Master uses the strategy of story telling. Here the protagonist
is a retired teacher, a widower, who lives on his memories of the past. He tells various stories to a
young boy and recreates the past. He recalls the tales of his grandmother, dead wife Mangala,
Jameela and Eliamma the real ghost from Mangala s story.
Vasu Master s mother had no name for one year because her parents did not want to spend money
on a naming ceremony for one more daughter. This shows the secondary position of women in
Indian society. She was only the shadow of her husband suppressed by her duties and inferiority
complex till her death.Next Women character is of Mangala the wife of Vasu who was also a
gloomy figure for Vasu. He continues thinking of Mangala as the awful unknown and always
dismissing her as an insignificant person:
She was unnoticeable, inconspicuous; like my mother, memorable only as an absence. I knew my
wife and my affection for her only when I lived with her ghost. The ghost had a frail, vapoury
body; made more insubstantial by my lapses of memory aboutwhat she actually was (GVM 123).
Mangala was educated, but she believed in ghosts.Vasu Master thought that Mangala was as
flimsy and evasive as her companions of darkness. He remembers Mangala looking longingly at
some remote point in the distance where she melted into sky (GVM 124). Then she suddenly
seemed different, more receptive, opened to the possibility of change. The last canvas Jameela had
embroidered for Mangala showed a hazy seascape in which all was ambiguous movement,
suggestive of mysterious possibility (GVM 131).
In this novel the three women character of Hariharan tries to achieve

Acid Base Disturbance Report
Acid Base Disturbances is any condition which results in changes of the extracellular fluid pH from
the normal range of pH 7.35 7.45. ... Because the blood pH and the ECF pH are almost always
equivalent, disturbances of acid base homeostasis are diagnosed by measuring blood pH. When the
pH is below 7.35, the condition is called acidosis; when the pH is above 7.45, it is called alkalosis

  • 2. Essay On MLB Draft The Show It has been said that people learn from mistakes (Roth 21) by prestigious and successful individuals such as Dr. Bernard Roth, in an attempt to provoke people to chase their dreams despite any mistakes or obstacles. The failure of becoming eligible for the MLB draft this year is a colossal setback for playersinterested in being drafted. Although this is considered a failing in society s eyes, these players have a chance to learn from there mistakes and use that knowledge to eventually get drafted in a following year. Possibly the most substantial issue that most of these athletes had to overcome would be lacking important knowledge necessary to provide a respectable run at the MLB draft. The lack of knowledge can be broken up into 3 aspects: beginning with a bad plan, having unrealistic expectations, and coasting in the baseball portion. All of these factors contribute to teaching the athletes who failed this year how to succeed next year. To begin with, athletes were doomed from the start if they did not have good workout and eating plans, along with good time management skills. According to a freshman pitcher at Northeastern Junior College, interested in the MLB draft, I found it difficult to find a way to balance: practice, eating... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Now that these players have more experience under their belt they will have a better possibility of getting drafted because they will be prepared with an excellent plan, have a better idea at what is and is not achievable and why, and they will not coast if they are serious about making a serious run at the MLB draft. This was a goal for many young athletes this year and even though failure was the outcome this time, these hungry athletes will strive for their goal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Neil deGrasse Tyson Neil deGrasse Tyson, an American astrophysicist, and director of the Hayden Planetariumat the American Museum of Natural History used this quote to clearly express his idea in his writing Coming to Our Senses that we need technology with our senses to fully explore the world. The election of 1824 had three candidates that were favorite suns or candidates supported by their home state rather than by their national party. Many Americans had disagreed on the subject of tariffs or a fee paid by merchants who imported goods out of country. In 1828 congress had passed a tariff that had placed a higher fee on imported goods from britain which had benefitted america because a lot of goods were imported from britain. Tariffs had split the nation in two one side being against and one side supporting it. Most Americans from the northwest had supported the tariff on britain because it had benefited them. 2. • 5. Deaf People Disability Do Deaf people have a disability? What is the difference between Deaf and deaf ? A disability can be defined as a limitation of function because of an impairment (Lane, 2008, p. 277). To some, deaf people [seem] limited in some functions because of an impairment of hearing (Lane, 2008, p. 277). However, this determination of disability has arisen from norms and the technologies of normalization (Lane, 2008, p. 279) by the hearing and otherwise able bodied world. To the hearing world, Deaf people lack the ability to hear; a sense which so many of us hearing people depend on. In actuality, the only reason Deaf people seem to suffer is because we, the hearing majority, have placed our own beliefs and values on them. By labeling Deaf people as disabled, we are guilty of audism and ableism, as we [insist] that inherent biological factors determine individual traits and capacity (Lane, 2008, p. 282), and assume their life is lacking because they either cannot hear or cannot hear as well as we think they should. If we were to change our mentality about accessibility, about human rights, and about individuality, it would seem clear that the only reason Deaf people are limited in any way is because the majority makes so much revolve around the importance of hearing, and dismiss the reality that ... • 8. Causes Of Homegrown Terrorism Even though it is called homegrown terrorism, terrorism does not only start within a home. Although there have been events that lead to roots of what might have caused the terrorism there is always evidence that contradicts itself. Some of these roots are radicalization, religion, and multiculturalism. Every one of these roots has caused terrorismthroughout decades which not only has the United Sates tried to stop, but which we have come to conclude that it is something that we cannot control which makes us believe there are other sources and roots of domestic terrorism. Terrorism is not only on certain days or years; terrorism is an everyday fear. American Jihad is an American story about a citizen who belonged to Al Qaeda name Anwar Awlaki who terrorized Boston and Florida. Born in New Mexico, he had a strong rapport with the American Muslim youths at his mosque, thanks to a fluid use of the English language (not a given with Islamic religious leaders, even in the U.S.) and his understanding of popular culture. • 9. Mens Rea Essay n criminal law, the mens rea refers to the defendant s state of mind at the time of their crime and there are several levels reflecting the need to have a particular mens rea for the offence committed. For example, in murder or a S:18 offence in the Offences Against the Person Act 1861, the mens rea present must be that of specific intent, which is where the defendant desired that particular outcome of their actions. However, it was held in R v Cunningham 1982, that the intention to cause serious harm was enough to satisfy the mens rea for murder. This shows that, where murder cases are concerned, that it is relatively easy to prove the required mens rea and in doing so the concept of fault is often satisfied. This is once again shown in oblique... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the original hearing, Ahluwalia was convicted of murder as the law on provocation required the loss of self control to be immediate, not premeditated and this may have been the case as the defendant waited for her husband to sleep before murdering him. However, the law has since developed and provocation now recognises battered woman s syndrome and the slow burn effect it may cause. If this is the case, then surely a defendant in such a situation cannot face the full wrath of fault when much of what surrounded the killing was not out of their choice. Even though the actus reus and mens rea in this case, and also similar cases of R v Duffy 1949 and R v Thornton 1992, were present, the law s introduction of a Domestic Violence Bill is perhaps confirmation that the concept of fault can only be appropriately applied when the full circumstances are looked at. This signifies the importance of defences, as it is here that the law can decide whether or not a person is to blame for their actions and to what extent it was their fault that the actus reus and mens rea were ... North American Free Trade Agreement North American Free Trade Agreement The North American Free Trade Agreement is a regulation between Mexico, Canada, and the United States which eliminates most tariffs on trade among them. This agreement was implemented January 1, 1994 with the purpose to encourage economic activity among the member countries. At the time, it established the largest free trade region in the world and included the elimination of tariffs, agreements on trades in services, and a dispute settlement mechanism for trade disagreements. From 1993 2003 Canada s economy grew by 30.9% and Canada s exports to the United States expanded by 250%. But Canada did struggle to reduce high unemployment rates 9% throughout most of the 1990s. Canada did not experience a significant loss in labor jobs during this period, but the Canadian dollar was at historic low levels in relation to the US dollar, which helped to make Canadian goods competitive on the world market. NAFTA has clearly been a benefit to Canada s economy and continues to have a noticeable effect to this very day. The Mexican Peso Crisis The Mexican Peso Crisis in December 1994 was a currency crisis that was sparked by the Mexican government s devaluation of the peso against the U.S. dollar. In 1994, the government started expansionary fiscal and monetary policy in an attempt to attract more foreign investment dollars into Mexico. It used an odd form of government debt to attract investment. The government issued short term debt in the local currency, peso, but promised to repay the debt in US dollars. Basically, the government was gambling that the peso would remain strong or even strengthen against the US dollar so the government s debt would be reduced. • 14. The Politics Of The Global Essay INTRODUCTION The Politics of the Global gives us a narration of how development of international political economy happens and an understanding of globalization. Globalization is frequently analyzed independently and the author shows how globalization plays out in two multi cultural democracies; India and USA. It portrays different political possibilities like colonial coercion, post colonial ambivalence and post colonial co option that are opened by global relays of meanings, identities and power from historically different locations. Globalization also explores a variety of spaces and strategies for resisting the colonization of the global. The author identifies bureaucratic delays and red tape that happens in government of India as the same of a business man who uses technology to improve productivity and is professional in his approach. It focuses on reconstructing the state s economy and its government using the SMART simple, moral, accountable, responsive and transparent governance argument. He characterizes globalization into three narratives; the rationalist, historical materialist and the constructivist approaches. Each narrative consists of many theories some of them disagreeing with each other but at the end of the day, each narrative is united through shared models of understanding and explanation that seeks to go beyond the international to access the global (Muppidi, 2004, p.3). • 16. John Milton s Paradise Lost A few years prior to writing Paradise Lost, John Milton lost his vision. In fact, Milton does not hide the reality that his eyes, that roll in vain...find no dawn (Paradise Lost, 3.22 23). The light that Milton refers to, however, is not just physical, but it is also spiritual. There is a third type of blindness that Milton addresses, blindness from knowledge. Milton is concerned with this form of blindness in a number of works, perhaps most notably Areopagitica. The acquisition of knowledge plays a vital role in Paradise Lost: the fall of Adam and Even relies on their attainment of knowledge; the decision to eat the fruit is blasphemous because Adam and Eveknow that it is forbidden to them; Adam embarks on an educational mission as he asks Raphael questions in an attempt to gain more knowledge about the world around him. However, not all knowledge can be attained by Adam and Eve, which complicates the justice of the fall. As John Milton explores the nature of knowledge in Paradise Lost, the validity and visibility of this knowledge lead Adam and Eve to an unjust fall. With the exception of God, knowledge is limited for all the characters in the text. When Adam asks Raphael a number of questions concerning his creation and his duties towards God, Raphael readily answers. However, when Adam inquiries about the cosmological universe, Raphael provides an answer but quickly reminds Adam that this knowledge from Man or Angel the great Architect/Did wisely to conceal, and not ... This is why Expressionist art is so unique and distinctive as it can tell a whole different story, and show so may different deep emotions and feelings in one painting. Expressionism is one of the most popular types of art in the later 19th and the 20th centuries. It shows an individual, impulsive, self expressionate piece of art. Around 99% of the body s calcium is found within the skeleton in the form of calcium salts. The remaining 1% is found in blood and controlled within a very narrow range by an elaborate system of controls to provide for fundamental processes (Marieb Hoehn 2010). A very narrow range of 9 11 mg per dl of calcium in blood is maintained by a negative feedback hormonal loop (Formation 2013). The thyroid gland secretes parathyroid hormone (PTH) in response to low calcium in the blood detected by the g protein coupled receptor. PTH activates bone digesting Osteoclasts, which move along a bone surface, breaking down the matrix and in turn release Ca2+ and HPO42 . Calcium salts are converted into soluble forms by the hydrochloric acid secreted by the ruffle border of the Osteoclast. Bones can become so de mineralised that they develop large holes when blood calcium levels are too low for an extended period of time (Marieb Hoehn 2010). Extracellular calcium levels between 9 11ng or higher results in the binding of calcium to the receptor inhibiting the secretion of PTH. Without the bodies capacity to detect changes in ECF calcium concentration, voltage gated ion channels can become unstable and result in hyperactivity of muscle and nerve cells (Humoral Regualtion 2013). What are THREE different measurements that scientists use to describe populations? Scientists use population size, population density, and population dispersion to describe populations. b)Define the terms population size and population density. However, organisms do not use up all of the space accounted for when measuring population size and crude density. Ecological density is only concerned with the space the organism uses. It is determined by dividing population size by usable space. For example, for the ecological density of moose in Algonquin Park, the entire area of Algonquin Park would not be considered, but only the area in which the moose live would be used. b)Why is this distinction (i.e., crude versus ecological density) necessary? Which of these two measures of density is typically higher? This distinction is necessary because the crude population density may be very misleading. A population of individuals may be living much more clustered together than the crude density may indicate, so the ecological density would give a more accurate depiction. However, if someone is researching the population dymanics given boundaries of a specified habitat or area, then the crude density would represent the total density of that population in that given space. Of the two, ecological density is typically higher because the useful space is usually less than the total space. 3. What is meant by the term population ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. A Worn Path Analysis In A Worn Path , by Eudora Welty, we join Phoenix Jackson on her routine voyage to town for the medicine her grandson needs to survive. Throughout this short story, it is obvious that there are themes of persistence, struggle, and love. This struggle to the town is made apparent and is emphasized by the stories setting along with the use of symbolism, and mood/atmosphere of the story. The driving force behind the plot is this theme of persistence through the struggles and the idea that loveconquers all, adds to Jacksons journey to the town to get the medicine. As Jackson makes her way she faces hurdles that would make a normal person turn back, such as the barbed wire fence (Welty, 503). But instead, Jackson carries on. I personally interpret that as a great statement of love. Jackson was willing to go through barbed wire fences to help her grandson. In addition, she not only was willing to go through the barbed wires but also was willing to beg so that she could get her grandson a toy. Nothing stopped Jackson from doing all that she could for her familyand to me that means more than anything. Symbolism plays a large part in the telling of this story. Symbolism can be found in Phoenix Jackson s name just as much as in the small toy she buys her grandson. The name Phoenix is referencing a mythical bird that is believed to live in the desert and is capable of living up to 600 years. The Phoenix is said to set itself on fire only to rise once again from its ashes. The symbol of the Phoenix expresses the endurance and resilience of Phoenix Jackson. As she makes her way down the path she is embodying the long lasting characteristic of the Phoenix. In addition, Jackson is constantly picking herself back up, and keeping herself together. Just like the mythical bird, Jackson manages to continue on the harsh and tortuous path, rising from her own ashes, all out of love for her grandson. While the symbol of the phoenix is obvious, one might skip over the message behind the small toy Jackson bought for her grandson. The pinwheel, or windmill as Jackson called it, is a circular collection of blades that are pushed and turned in a continuous circular pattern by either wind or force (Welty, 507). This symbol ... • 24. The Classical Period Of Greek Art The beautiful Three Sided Relief , also known as the Boston Throne , is a treasure of the Museum of Fine Arts, as it is an original relief from the Early Classical Period of Greek art. Though it was found in Rome, it is not a Roman copy of the relief, which makes it incredibly unique. The Three Sided Relief was found in a private villa on via Boncampagni. The intriguing part of this discovery was that the Three Sided Relief was found in the same region as the Ludovisi Relief, a relief of a similar proportion, subject matter, and creation date. The artwork, though found in Rome, is very easily identified as Greek due to the material used (marble) and also the distinctly Greek style of the relief, containing reference to both Ionic Greek agriculture and Attic grave reliefs. Greeks used their art much more religiously than the Romans, who used it more for political propaganda purposes. Artwork to the Greeks was used to honor their gods and decorate the temples they erected to celebrate their gods. The main face of the Three Sided Relief depicts a winged boy in the nude standing in the center of the relief, and holding up a large balance. There are three large holes cut into the relief, one in each wing of the boy and another in his chest. The market and the industry are part of the labour that produces and distributes; both factors interrelate with each other. However, stars contribute themselves into making commodities; both labour and what labour produces. Dyer (2005) argues stars as commodities are distributed in several stages. Firstly, successful commodities are created from stars with a reputable image, as the work of fashioning the star out of the raw material of the person, varies in the degree to which it respects what artists refer to as inherent qualities of the material; make up, coiffure, clothing, dieting and body building can all make more or less... He showed how sudden injection of credit into economy could cause changes in the relative prices between goods and lead to overinvestment that cannot be maintained. When money and credit vary, it sets up a train of events which draws resources into places where they would not normally go. In particular, an increase in credit stimulates investment (Butler, 8). Thus, Hayek shows that it is a response to the false signal of new credit being created, and therefore this investment cannot be maintained. Hayek concentrates on the initial disturbance that starts a cycle. It is used to create new bank credit in the shape of unwarranted advances to enterprises. He considers money (credit) as a factor to explain the cycle theory. The elasticity of the money supply (MV) is what allows and facilitates the disequilibria of business cycles. By expanding the currency, malinvestments in capital are generated, which are not productive enough to be maintained (Haney, 681). Having said this, Hayek makes two points here. He talks about voluntary saving and enterprisers anticipation of rising prices. The former is concerned with the changes in capital structure brought about by changes in the volume of money. It is the difference between voluntary saving and the creation of new credit currency by banks. In particular, Hayek describes the self reversing real effects of credit expansion. He states ... With that, I realized had my theme: a Formal. In college the equivalent to a Prom are Formals. Nevertheless, like a Prom, Formals have many cultural beliefs and values, from tuxedos and dresses to what to eat, and how to dance. Formals are supposed to fun and memorable, and how you and your date choose to make create those memories. As with all rituals, Formals have traditional preparations and symbols that have true cultural beliefs and values. In this paper, I will argue that Formals are not only a ritual, but a riteof passage, mostly for the girl, but as a guy you can help make it memorable by using symbols that have meaning and will make the night unforgettable. Then there are others who have made our economy, as well as our country, go down the drain. However, I have to hand it to President Ronald Wilson Reagan, because the time he was in office he really pumped the country up, and did a tremendous job running it as well as helping in every way he could. Ronald Reaganwas born on February 6, 1911, in Tampico, Illinois. Reagan passed away June 5, 2004, and was buried in Simi Valley, California. He graduated from Eureka College in 1932 with a Bachelor s of Arts degree in social science and economics. Before Mr. Reagan was president he was also an actor, and performed in 53 different movies. He was of the Christian religion. President Ronald Reagan was the 40th president, and part of the Republican party. The First Lady was Nancy Reagan, and the Vice President was George H.W. Bush while Ronald Reagan was in office. They were successful with two terms together from 1981 until 1989. Obviously Reagan liked politics, and definitely caught his attention since that is what he graduated from college with. But, his political views really shifted from liberal to republican in the 1960 s while supporting Nixon in Nixon s campaign in California against Pat Brown. Reagan did quite a few General Electric speeches for Nixon as well in his campaign. The result from these speeches was merely freedom is what the people got from these speeches. ... The big question I will be answering is whether or not to buy local or non local foods. I will go over which is safer for the economy, the environment, and people. After I research this, I will then find which one is better to buy. This is a question that each person should ponder before deciding which type of food to buy. My hypothesis is that eating locally will be better and safer for everyone. Do you often find that the foods in your fridge are nonlocal? There are many negative things to contemplate when deciding what type of foods to buy. Issues upon this topic include foodborne illnesses, also known as food poisoning, incorrect processing and handling and preparation of meats, and bacteria. Many multi state waves in which have infected many hundreds of people have lately been traced back to specific farms, food processors, and specific food handlers. (As stated by sustainabletable.org) Some major issues with buying non local foods that have an effect of the earth are pesticides and steroids. They can be put into these foods and can seriously harm the consumer. Pesticides are made to kill pests to the plant, but they often hurt humans instead. The Ideal System For Preventive Services First, the ideal system would integrate financing and delivery, not necessarily as in common ownership, but in the sense of incentive alignment and collaboration and coordination. Providers would accept responsibility for managing resources and benefit from improving care processes. This has to mean per capita prepayment so that one can transfer resources smoothly from acute care to preventive services when we can decide which preventive services will reduce needs for acute care. Also, the ideal system would integrate providers and populations, so that the providers could plan for or contract with the right resources to care for their defined populations and be able to practice population medicine. From this would emerge an appropriate emphasis on primary care and prevention. There should be an integration of the full spectrum or continuum of care inpatient, outpatient, primary care, home care to provide care in the least costly and most appropriate setting, so that care in the different settings is integrated. One organization would control and be responsible for all the processes so that quality lapses arising from missed handoffs could be addressed and corrected, rather than blaming them on the other party. The experiment was simple, a Pendulum was created with a weight on the end of a wire which was attached to a fixed point on the ceiling, once set in motion it continued to move and slowly rotated its position. Therefore, I wanted to observe if people interact more with their devices than with each other. Prior to my observations, I assumed that crosstalk is limited, and that technologies result in social isolation. I believed that the airportwas a good place to conduct my study because it is a semi public sphere that has frequent foot traffic. My hypothesis is that devices have decreased co location and increased co presence is more prevalent in airport terminals. Before my research, my assumption was that the desire to disengage from the physical location was great because of the limited amount of ways that the airport terminal has to occupy time. Gilder, having just published To Build a Fire in his magazine, was worried when he came across another version published 6 years earlier. London s explanation was that the first story was for boys and the new one was for men; the only similarity being the motif itself. A Protection Paladin are tanks that can hold their own against a group of enemies and they make certain that the targets which aren t being hit focus on the protection paladin himself instead of the damage dealers or healers. An Aura is a permanent buff that assist an entire party, as long as the members are within forty yards of the Paladin. There are five different types of Auras; devotion aura, retribution aura, concentration aura, resistance aura, and crusader aura. Only one Aura can be used at a time, but if there are several Paladins in a group, they may all use different Auras. If two Paladins use the same Aura, it will not double your armor. Some of the disadvantages are that the Paladin kills slowly. Compared to some of the other classes, the Paladin does minor damage. Although the Paladin is a healer, the magic defense is not valuable unless suitably talented. Unless you play as the Retribution Paladin, some of the armor and equipment does not accurately work ... • 52. Analysis Of Place Beyond The Pines Directed by Derek Cianfrance, Place Beyond the Pines (2012) is a multigenerational crime based drama that changes narratives multiple times throughout the film. Following Ryan Gosling s character s transition as he learns that he is a father, Bradley Cooper as the hero cop with both ambitions and a conscious, and then both of their sons (Dane Dehaan, Emery Cohen) dealing with growing up without present fathers. This multitude of narratives allows the viewer an insight into how each character defines masculinity and the role of being a man. Ryan Gosling, a traveling motorcycle stuntman, after learning that he has a son, quits his job in an attempt to be present in the baby s life, unlike his own father. With little persuasion from his landlord and roommate, he resorts to bank robbery in pursuit to provide for his new family. After eventually being caught and killed by a trigger happy rookie cop, (Bradley Cooper) the narrative changes to the new father and now hero cop. Bradley Cooper, an ex lawyer whose father was also a cop, lies about who shot first to save both his reputation and his career, deals with the guilt by focusing on his ambitions and shutting off his wife and newborn. The final narrative transition, where both sons, now teenagers, meet and form a friendship despite not knowing their father s pasts. Dane Dehaan, a privileged but rebellious thug with a distant father, and Emery, a loner pothead struggling with both his own identity and of his biological father, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Essay on Emergency Contraception The idea of Emergency Contraception is not a new to society, however it is still igniting many debates just as it did when it was first introduced to the United States. Emergency contraception continues to be a highly emotional and controversial issue, both for advocates who believe EC will lower the number of unintended pregnancies and abortions, and for opponents who believe that using EC amounts to an abortion. The controversy fueling this debate centers around one of the ways that emergency contraception works. Emergency contraception can prevent or delay ovulation, affect the movement of the egg or sperm: making them less likely to meet, it can also interfere with the fertilization process and prevent implantation of a fertilized egg.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some argue that a girl can get an abortion without parental notification in some states, so why not Plan B. While parents would like their children to wait as long as possible to begin having sex, the reality is that teens are having sex much younger than many parents think. Some teens, or preteens, begin having sex or engaging in sexual behavior in junior high. By the time they are seniors in high school, an estimated 65 percent of teens have had sex, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention s Youth Risk Behavior Survey, 2007. (Dawn, 2009). Unfortunately, a percentage of those teens will become pregnant. After more than a decade and a half of decline (a 27 percent drop from 1991 to 2000), teen birth rates rose again in 2006, which was the last year for which data are available. It is still unclear on what caused teen birth rates to rise again, with supporters of abstinence only sex education programs and contraception based programs each blaming the other side for the increase. However, a 2007 study in the Journal of American Public Health attributed the trend in decreasing pregnancy rates to improved contraception use among teens during that time. (Anderson Orr, 2009). • 54. Elements Of Field Programmable Gate Arrays CHAPTER 1 1 INTRODUCTION For the past decades, scientific computation has been a popular research tool among scientists and engineers from numerous areas, including climate modelling, computational chemistry, and bioinformatics .With the maturing of application algorithms, developing high performance computing platforms that satisfy the increasing computational demands, search spaces, and data volume have become a huge challenge. As predicted by Moore s law .faster and faster computers are built to provide more processing power every year. Apparently, speeding up the computation serially alone is no longer enough. In 1967 Amdahl presented a model to estimate the theoretical maximum improvement when multiple processing units were... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Various representation systems were introduced to represent signed integer numbers, including signed magnitude, biased, and complement systems .Both the signed and unsigned integer representations can be extended to encode fractional data by employing an implicit or explicit radix point that denotes the scaling factor. These integer based real number representations are generally called fixed point systems, where the term fixed point implies that the scaling factor is constant during the computation without externally reconfigured. As a result, the precision (least represent able value of the unit in the last place, for a fixed point number system cannot be improved without sacrificing its represent able value range. Floating point representation on the other hand provides not only the ability for wide dynamic range support, but also high precision for small values. A typical floating point number is represented in four components, and its value can be calculated with the equation. x = В± s Г— be, where s is the significant and e is the biased exponent (with implicit bias). The standard precision of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. Analysis Of The Novel The Thousand Faces Of Night Realism and fantasy interplay in the narrative to focus on the emerging self. It is a self that endures suffering, but it is a suffering that leads to self understanding and an inward strength to break loose from past thoughts and experiences that are negative. (174) In fact, the novel presents the real life characters the issue of gender exploitation faced by them. Hariharan in The Thousand Faces of Night presents the travails of women who crave for love and sympathy but are, paradoxically enough, victims of their own gender. The next novel The Ghost of Vasu Master uses the strategy of story telling. Here the protagonist is a retired teacher, a widower, who lives on his memories of the past. He tells various stories to a young boy and recreates the past. He recalls the tales of his grandmother, dead wife Mangala, Jameela and Eliamma the real ghost from Mangala s story. Vasu Master s mother had no name for one year because her parents did not want to spend money on a naming ceremony for one more daughter. This shows the secondary position of women in Indian society. She was only the shadow of her husband suppressed by her duties and inferiority complex till her death.Next Women character is of Mangala the wife of Vasu who was also a gloomy figure for Vasu. He continues thinking of Mangala as the awful unknown and always dismissing her as an insignificant person: She was unnoticeable, inconspicuous; like my mother, memorable only as an absence. I knew my wife and my affection for her only when I lived with her ghost. The ghost had a frail, vapoury body; made more insubstantial by my lapses of memory aboutwhat she actually was (GVM 123). Mangala was educated, but she believed in ghosts.Vasu Master thought that Mangala was as flimsy and evasive as her companions of darkness. He remembers Mangala looking longingly at some remote point in the distance where she melted into sky (GVM 124). Then she suddenly seemed different, more receptive, opened to the possibility of change. The last canvas Jameela had embroidered for Mangala showed a hazy seascape in which all was ambiguous movement, suggestive of mysterious possibility (GVM 131). In this novel the three women character of Hariharan tries to achieve ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 56. Acid Base Disturbance Report Acid Base Disturbances is any condition which results in changes of the extracellular fluid pH from the normal range of pH 7.35 7.45. ... Because the blood pH and the ECF pH are almost always equivalent, disturbances of acid base homeostasis are diagnosed by measuring blood pH. When the pH is below 7.35, the condition is called acidosis; when the pH is above 7.45, it is called alkalosis Вќ. (VanPutte, 2013). Acidosis or Alkalosis states are categorized as being either metabolic or respiratory so the imbalance or condition maybe respiratory acidosis, or respiratory alkalosis, metabolic acidosis and or metabolic alkalosis. Because the body is always striving for or attempting to maintain normalcy (homeostasis), regardless of the etiological source all initial acid base disturbances will result in an imbalance of the normal pH ratio. To combat the effects of acidosis and or... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
