Field Army Compliance Report
I am writing out of need for your assistance with a grievance against the unit 1 30th FA Bravo
Btry regarding myself 2LT Cedric Street. Upon graduation of the Field Artillery BOLC I was to
assume the role of a Fire Support Officer at Fort Bragg 82nd Airborne, however this has come
with undue burden and hardship. The 1 30 TH opened an investigation against myself after
receiving a complaint that I had cheated on my final exams. The accusation had just been brought
to my attention on Friday, August 21, 2015 after a two week window in which this matter could
have been addressed more concisely without placing undue burden on me or family. On Tuesday
August 18th I attended the graduation ceremony and received my certificate and 1059 stating that
I had completed all academic and physical standards needed to complete Field Artillery BOLC,

Analysis Of The Book Colorado Essay
This project was intended to show and persuade the audience to appreciate and enjoy the outdoors
in Colorado. But if not that then the purpose was to help understand the importance of wilderness
to some people and how it affects people s lives for the better. My main rhetorical appeals are,
pathos, logos, and a bit of ethos. The photo essay, the memoir, the film review and the editorial all
appealto pathos more than the others. The instructional essay appealed to logos. The editorial and
the instructional essay also contain pieces of ethos. Also the photo essaygives the entire project an
appeal to ethos because it shows that I ve actually been on many mountains and that helps with
what I say in my other pieces.
Photo Essay:
The purpose of this photo essay is to tell the audience the story of my most recent climb and
show them that being out on the mountain is an amazing experience. I feel that my photos do a
good job with this. With a small amount of editing the photos accurately show what it looks like
to be on a climb. The order of these photos show the grueling physical challenge it is to climb a
14er. Photo after photo of the peak getting closer and closer helps to convey not only the obvious
physical challenge but also the great mental capacity it takes to keep moving up the peak. The one
thing that lacks in the photo essay is some of the captions are more informative instead of telling a
story. The caption on the 6th photo reads The terrain becomes less

The Importance Of Creativity In Education
Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist after growing up (Pablo Picasso).
Teachers should use creativity to help students find a balance between different types of thinking.
Therefore, creative skills are just as important as a creative attitude. Schools need to offer
children a larger variety of creative experiences. It s a wonderful way for children to express
themselves. Furthermore, expression is very important because everyone needs a chance to show
who they are and what they feel. Creative opportunities is not only helpful in schools, but it also
paves a way into a creative future. There are many jobs that involve art, music, writing, and other
creative skills. Students need to have more opportunities and knowledge in creativitybecause it
helps students develop skills, allows students to express themselves, and they will have more job
opportunities in a creative field.
The firm educational system we have today is stealing the creative and competitive side of our
students. There are many concepts that should be teachers priority and they should include it
straightaway. According to Linkner, a CEO and tech entrepreneur, The first concept is to create
automatic memorization to teach problem solving in a creative way (Linkner 7). Achieving an
solution or an answer is more essential for making the right choices. Mistakes should not be
something that students fear to make. We need to explain that mistakes are not bad or wrong
(Linker 9).

How Is Sisyphus Similar
1). Phil s scenario is similar to Sisyphus because they are both stuck in a situation where they
have to repeat doing the same thing over and over. For example, Phil keeps reliving Groundhog
Day while Sisyphus has to roll a rock up a hill for eternity. Another example of how Phil s and
Sisyphus scenarios are similar is how they got themselves into repeating the same day over. Phil
was rude to people and did not enjoy the little aspects of life during his stay and news casting in
Punxsutawney for Groundhog Day. Unlike Phil, Sisyphus created many crimes that the gods did
not appreciate. Phil s scenario is different from Sisyphus because Phil got to change the way he
wanted to act and the things he wanted to do. For example, after he realized that he was going to
keep reliving Groundhog s Day, he decided to take advantage of the situation. On one of the days
Phil decided to drive foolishly around town with two drunks that he met at a bar and ends up in
jail. Since he is reliving the same day many times, he decides to steal money from the money truck.
Sisyphus however just gets stuck with continuously rolling the rock up the hill and he has to deal
with his hour of consciousness .... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the movie Phil takes advantage of reliving the same day but then realizes there is
not much more he can do, so he tries to kill himself in multiple ways. But near the end we see a
change in Phil, he is much kinder to people. He starts to embrace what is happening to him,
instead of thinking of himself all the time he starts to do service for others in the community. We
can see that he struggles with the consequence he is faced with but in the end we see that Phil
changes his attitude in the way he sees life. He gets the girl, he gets the happiness he was looking
for, and he breaks the cycle. Existentialism is demonstrated in the movie when we can visually see
that Phil can change his view towards life so he could live a better

Space Shuttle Challenger Case Study Solution
Executive Summary
On January 28, 1986, hundreds of spectators on the ground and millions of Americans watching on
television witnessed the disaster of space shuttle Challenger. The space shuttle Challenger broke
apart after 73 seconds it was launched killing all seven crew members aboard, including Christa
McAuliffe, a teacher from New Hampshire. Christa McAuliffe was chosen from thousands of
candidates and planned to teach lessons from space to children of school age around the country.
Based on investigation conducted by the Roger s Commission, the O ring seals in Challenger s
solid rocket booster (SRB) became brittle due to extreme cold temperature that caused the failure to

Challenger was rescheduled to launch on January 28, 1986 at 9:38 AM Eastern Time at Kennedy
Space Center, Florida
2.0CIRCUMSTANCES BEFORE LAUNCH One day before the launch, NASA personnel became
concerned because of the predicted Florida weather on the early hours of January 28 would be
unusually cold, the temperature was expected to be as low as 20В°F (Vaughan, 1997).
Marshall s Solid Rocket Motor Manager contacted Thiokol, the manufacturer of the Solid Rocket
Motor (SRM) in Utah to review the performance of the SRM on cold temperature. The Thiokol
engineers expressed their concern that the cold temperature would make the rubber O ring lose the
resiliency that may cause failure to seal the joints of the SRB, which is mission safety critical. This
was a known issue based on several previous launches and concerns that had been raised between
Marshall and Thiokol. This issue prompted to set three location telephone conference to discuss the
situation. Managers and engineers from Thiokol, Marshall Flight Space Flight Center, and Kennedy
Space Center participated in the discussion. Thiokol s recommendation was to delay the launch
until noon or after. More discussions took place that involved more personnel from all three
participating locations and engineering data containing technical analysis of the problem was
provided. Based on the technical analysis, Thiokol s conclusion, launch at any temperature below

Dora, By Jhumpa Lahiri Essay
At the beginning of the passage, When Mr. Pirzada came to dine, Lilia says, I didn t mean they
were missing. I meant he misses them. They live in a different country, and he hasn t seen them
in a while, that s all. Even though she has had multiple chances to talk to Dora and her parents
about the war in Pakistan and the impacts it had on Mr.Pirzada, she doesn t bring up the issue or
try to inform them about it. This is because Lilia didn t try to history of her motherland until she
met Mr. Pirzada, thus she knows Dora won t be interested or can relate to the issue as Dora is an
American. Jhumpa Lahiricritiques both modern contemporary Americans and immigrants for their
ignorant, privileged life by getting the readers to view the world through the eyes of first generation
Indian American, Lilia.
Halloween is one of the most celebrated and the most marketed holidays in America; therefore,

teenagers would scream trick or treat and they receive candies, chocolates, and other confectioneries
from their neighbours. This tradition has increasingly become more popular and sensational as
more people decorated their house by stringing rubber bats in windows, and turning off lights for

Napoleon Crossing The Alps By Jacques-Louis David
Arguably the most successful portrait of the military powerhouse, Napoleon Crossing the Alps
by Jacques Louis David is nothing short of political propaganda. Completed in January of 1801,
this oil on canvas painting depicts Napoleon as he leads his troops across the Alps in May of
1800, which lead to the defeat of the Austrians at the Battle of Marengo in June of the same year.
The portrait, commissioned by the King of Spain, was to hang in the Royal Palace along with
paintings of other military leaders. It is an equestrian portrait of the future Emperor of France.
Though the painting depicts Napoleon leading his troops through the alps, he actually followed his
troops a few days later. Nonetheless, the painting captures Napoleon s great achievement

So the company has been working to put in place a web based enrolment system that employees
and retirees can access from anywhere (Huering, 2003).
2.2 Advantages
From 1999, IBM began using online enrolment system. It bridged many advantages for IBM
Company. Two of important benefits are as following: For company, by utilizing the flexible
benefits application HRIS has to offer, IBM was able to cut costs. The company can save nearly
$1.2 million per year on printing and mailing costs alone. For employees, online enrolment system
gives employees the freedom to discover their benefits on their own time and pace. Employees can
log in personally and are greeted by name and with important information regarding their benefits
enrolment, such as the deadlines and when changes take effect. They automatically get access to
health plans that are available to them, and the calculator lets them compare estimated benefit
amounts for each plan. Employees can select the health care services which they expect to use in a
particular year, estimate expected frequency of use, and calculate potential costs under each plan
option.

Essay On Black Religion
The dark tint represents the large population of Africans in Africa before the Europeans came.
Some estimate that without slavery the population of Africa would have been double the 25m it
had reached by 1850 (BBC). Before Europeans invaded Africa, Africa had a population of 25
million people. The large population helped Africamaintain strong kingdoms such as Axum and
Mali.
The black color of the Supra represents the variety of traditional religions that different African
groups worshipped. The color black can represent all different religions since the mix of all
colors make black, therefore black can represent a mixture of many religions that different
Africans practiced. The first opinion is that there are several African Religions. The reason given
is that these religions are tribal / clan based and therefore there are as many religions as there are
tribes / clans (African Mission). The variety of traditional religions allowed Africans to practice any
religion freely. When missionaries from Europe came, many Africans accepted... Show more

They also shared other cultural characteristics such as matrilineal social organization and a
cosmology expressed in their religious beliefs and practices (Captivity). Africa was once unified

Walt Disney Impact On The Economy
Introduction Walt Disney Parks and Resorts is a premier enterprise operating out of Florida. This
organization started back in 1971 by founders Walt and Roy Disney. Walt Disney Parks and
Resorts is the most visited theme park in the world. Over 50 million people visit these parks and
resorts year round. The organization is not only known for the services they provide, but the
economic impact and the programs offered to their employees. This writing assignment, I will
elaborate on how this company affects the economy, production, attitudes and motivation of their
workers. Economic Impact One of the many ways Disney affect the economy is by employing
thousands of people. Currently, the company has over 160,000 employees worldwide and counting.
According to Walt DisneyWorld Fun Facts, the parks and resorts cover nearly 45 squares miles of
land, the resort itself is the size of San Francisco. However, one of the most amazing things about
the land Disney owns, one third is for conservation (Disney World Fun Facts, 2016). Economic
success at this magnitude do not happen overnight, but with vision and making the right decisions.
One thing Disney had to consider early on was the impact their decisions would make
economically. According to Townsend (2002),
The economic way of thinking improves on common sense by looking beneath surface appearances.
Faced with a problem, an economist thinks in terms of variables rather than fixed quantities,

I decided to use the term missing link simply because around that time, scientists believed
Piltdown man was, in fact, the missing link to our lineage from which we evolved. I did not use
it because I believe it is an accurate depiction of the primate lineage. The faults which persuaded
the perpetrator, or perpetrators, would depend on who was the one behind the Piltdown hoax. For
instance, years later after Piltdown man was exposed as a hoax, a trunk with Martin A. C. Hilton

discovered bones with carvings and stains similar to those of Piltdown man. Martin A. C. Hilton

Elizabeth Barrett Browning s The Cry Of The Children
Elizabeth Barrett Browning s The Cry of the Children Like many writers in the Victorian Age,
Elizabeth Barrett Browning used her poetry as a platform to reach a larger audience to bring
awareness to contemporary social issues (Greenblatt, Elizabeth Barrett Browning pp. 1,123).
Common issues that were written about during the Victorian Age included inequality between men
and women, child labor and the American abolitionist movement (1,123). According to the first
footnote referenced in her poem The Cry of the Children , Barrett Browning composed this literary
piece in reaction to a report distributed by a parliamentary commission following a government

Later in the poem, the poet suggested that the children should spend time picking flowers in a
meadow (57 59), however, the children implied that they would not know the difference
between a cowslip and a weed, Are your cowslips of the meadows / Like our weeds anear the
mine? [ ] (61 62). Barrett Browning brought awareness to the fact that children who were
working in factories or mining for coal had no time to play, relax or to just be kids. The loss of
play time for these employed children was one of the issues Barrett Browning stressed in her
poem; whereas, other problems that these children encountered included exhaustion and facing
hazards daily. She conveyed to her readers how tired the children were and how little energy
they possessed (65 71); If we cared for any meadows, it were merely / To drop down in them and
sleep (67 68). She wrote about the exhaustion they experienced and its consequences for the
children, Our knees tremble sorely in the stooping / We fall upon our faces, trying to go (69 70).
She informed her audience of the dangers and difficulties that the adolescents experienced each
day. The children were required to move heavy loads, For, all day, we drag our burden tiring (73).
The adolescent workers were subjected to load noises that made their head ache, our heads, with

Modern Policing Grew Out Of Private Security Concerns
Modern policing grew out of private security concerns. Crime prevention is a major issue in our
society. A greater burden is being placed on public law enforcement to respond to crisis situations.
As a result, the consumer is turning to the private security industry to help protect our communities
and businesses. Private securityagencies are one of the fastest growing entities in our country. The
demand for security services is growing at stellar 6% rate a year in our post 9/11 climate. This
trend shows no sign of abating. There are many different actors within a private security firm,
license private patrol officers, private investigators, alarm company s operators, bodyguards, and
executive protection agents.
Starting a security company requires specific state and federal laws to be followed. You must
possess experience in the field, take the necessary training courses, and be responsible for training
your employees. All owners or managers of security companies must meet and maintain certain
requirements. Managers in charge of the private security related businesses must be a DCA
qualified manager. Security agencies are regularly required to complete numerous different
financial statements for a variety of reasons. Among the more common financial statements are a
cash flow statement, and a shareholder s equity statement.
In order to fully understand all concepts and strategies in starting a private security service, our

Red Badge of Courage Essay
To Be or Not to Be... A Man The Red Badge of Courage written by Stephen Crane is a prime
example of bildungsroman, or a coming of age story. Crane begins with a cowardly boy, Henry
Fleming, and ends with an experienced war hero who has learned not just what war really is, but
who he really is. Mark Twain once said, The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man
who lives fully is prepared to die at any time. [Epigraph] Although he struggles to learn that being a
soldier means more than just showing up at battle, Henry uses the influences of the attitudes, events,
and his own inner thoughts to complete his metamorphosis psychologically and morally. He also
learns that he may have to sacrifice himself at some point to save... Show more content on

Henry fights with himself on the issue of if he is ready for this war or not when he contemplates
on whether he would run away during battle or stay in combat. He views the war as almost a
dream at first, visioning marches, sieges, conflicts, hoping that he would encounter challenges like
these (Crane 4). He would soon come to find however, that war was nothing like he imagined. This
realization leads to his psychological transformation and growth and sets the stage for Henry s
journey of becoming a man through battles and deaths that prepare him to evolve into the hero he is
later. It is most clearly seen that Henry starts to make this psychological transition from boy to man
at the beginning of his war experience in the story. Henry realizes that a man became another thing
in battle (Crane 19). Although he does not actually demonstrate how he has become another thing
in the first battle when he retreats, Henry becomes more of a fighting man instead of a young boy.
This is shown through his thoughts about how he needs to return to his regiment and stick to what
he committed to. On his journey to escape, the sights he encounters push his development along.
Such sights included were witnessing a dead man in a green chapel and discovering that a red
badge is a sign of honor and an accomplishment in war. It is noticed that he starts to think in terms
of a soldier,

Feminism in Late 19th Century American Short Stories
Research Question: How is feminism revealed through the divergence of women s roles in society
and their own personal desires in the American short stories The Yellow Wall Paper, The Story of
an Hour, The Storm, and Life in the Iron Mills ?
Introduction
Literature changes as current events change and as the structure of society begins to shift.
American feminist literature started to become prevalent during the Victorian era, or around the
latter part of the 19th century. This is the time when the first wave of feminismin the United States
hit. The Seneca Falls Convention the first women s rights convention and the emergence of
Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony s American Equal Rights Association in the middle
of the 19th century are among some of the noteable events that sparked this movement in literature.
Women across America were inspired by the changing of the times, and that is reflected in many
American female authors writings.
Some of these authors include Charlotte Perkins Gilman, Kate Chopin, and Rebecca Harding
Davis, whose short stories speak volumes about the thoughts and emotions of women during this
time period. Life in the Iron Mills was written in 1861, The Yellow Wall Paper in 1892, The Story
of an Hour in 1894, and finally The Storm in 1898. Every story was written during the Victorian
era; every author had personally experienced life

Burham House Sociology
Monterey House Located on the grounds of Roanoke College s campus is the reportedly haunted
house known as Monterey. This house was built in 1853 by the Huff family, over time passed
through many different owners, and in 2002 was officially bought by Roanoke College.
Throughout the history of the house several of the occupants are known to have died within the
premises of the property, thus contributing to it s reputation of being haunted. In our investigation
of the Monterey house we spent two nights in the house gathering various types of data to aid us in
our attempt to discover what theoryof haunting is consistent with the experiences within the house.
The experiences within the house can be explained through several different theories... Show more

For example, the numerous dowsing hits found in the house can be attributed to the priming or
bias of the people conducting the dowsing sweeps. They might be unaware of the priming and
the bias caused by following or trying to repeat the results of another. In addition to the dowsing
hits, the psychological theory of explanation is also supported by the reports of hearing voices
that are not actually there. This can be attributed to a lack of sleep causing hallucinations, fueled
by a self fulfilling prophecy, like purposefully looking for a specific piece of evidence in your
data until you find it, and can even be attributed to hearing damage or impairment due to health
problems or old age. Another possible explanation for the hauntings can be seen with deja vu, or
the experiencing of intense familiarity with something in the present environment that leads you
to believe you have experienced it before. An exemplification of this theory can be seen when
Robin experienced feelings of familiarity while listening to a song during one of the vigils, but
could not place where she had heard it before. This feeling of familiarity is derived by the brain s
inability to recall the information related to the potential memory, and is sometimes referred to as
the tip of the tongue phenomena. Overall, the data collected from Monterey is mostly explained by

Racial Tension Between Black And White Americans

Essay 4
The term The Negro Problem was used throughout the 1950 s and 60 s as a slang description of the
racial tension between black and white Americans. The two essays in The Fire Next Time talk
about the problem that the African Americancommunity faced, but from different perspectives. The
author is writing to his nephew and is trying to make him understand that the situation is intolerable
and not likely to change. He suggests that instead of reacting from a place of anger and hate, that
the nephew should fight and strive to change the situation rather than confronting it violently. That
his nephew and even the community as a whole should try to almost outsmart the whites by being
the opposite of what they think of them. To prove them wrong and hopefully change the way they
are looked at. He suggests a change of attitudes on both sides, to spread love and understanding
instead of hate and animosity.
Baldwin grew up on the streets of Harlem; he began to realize the all of the temptations such as
sex and drugs was all around him. In order not to give into these temptations, he went to the church
in the hopes it would give him some insight on what to do. Eventually Baldwin sadly realized that
the church was not preaching the idea of love to everyone, but only to the ones who believed in the
same things they did. It is not too much to say that whoever wishes to become a truly moral human

Synopsis Of A Book Meridian By Alice Walker Essay
Nataliya Tyshchenko
Professors Aberbach, Decker, Fink
GE Cluster: America in the Sixties
4 November 2016
Time Warp: Meridian In psychology, the primacy effect is defined as the tendency to recall primary
information better than information divulged later on. This observation can be extended to how
first impressions resonate well in the minds of humans. In her historical novel, Meridian, author
Alice Walker reshapes perceptions about who holds power and moral authority and what
determines this by making time out of joint (choosing an interesting narrative structure, with a most
important beginning) and employing symbolism and repetition. Abandoning chronological order
forces a reader to constantly abandon preconceived notion about characters, events, movements,
and even themselves. As a result, the meaning of reality, life, and what is normal is resignified .
The effect of narrative structure is evident when Walker s choice for the beginning of the novel
affects the reader s perception of moral authority and power for the rest of the novel. By opening
with multiple, and incredibly varying, definitions of the word Meridian, Walker establishes her idea
that the main character is tough to pin down. Who she is will not be clear to the audience. This
perhaps presages that Meridian s moral authority and power will not be easily defined or pinned
down either and it is useless to try to assign a secondary meaning ( myth ) to her because it will
always shift. Though it is human

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis portray a rap song that explicitly defends same sex love by calling
out hip hop s history of homophobia and eliminate the injustice involving same sex couples.
Macklemore and Ryan Lewis is an American hip hop duo from Seattle, Washington formed in

This song mainly talks about a personal story. The video, spanning decades from childhood to old
age, depicts the life of the main character and the same sex partner with whom he falls in love,
including the social conflicts in their path of being in love due to their difference because of sexual
orientation. The three display through music to show their support for civil rights and marriage
equality through unapologetic discussion of the intolerance the cause and it s supporters continue
to face. Macklemore also explained that the song came out of his own frustration with surrounding
hip hop culture towards homosexuality. Since many artists these days uses offensive words such as

Farewell To Manzanar Letter
We are three students from Berea Midpark High School and we just finished reading your book
for our literature circles. We are writing this letter with intent to share our thoughts and
appreciation for the book. Dawn: I thoroughly enjoyed Farewell to Manzanar and found Jeanne s
character very interesting. I admire the way that she handles prejudice with maturity but also
found it touching and sad when she blames herself for being different. One of my favorite lines in
the book is when Jeanne s father says, When your mother and your father are having a fight, do
you want them to kill each other? Or do you just want them to stop fighting? I found this line very
well written and it has such a deeper meaning if you really think about it. It

Research on Density Essay
Density: Using Experimental Techniques to Solve an Inquiry based problem
ABSTRACT
The topic of this experiment is Density. The objective is to find two ways in which the density of
a given object can be determined, and to find out which of the two ways is more accurate and
hence better to use in such a case. The two methods used in this experiment are finding the
dimensions of the object and water displacement. These are two ways of finding the volume of an
object, and they were chosen since the density of an object may be found using its mass and its
volume. The experiment yielded two different density values, however when error analysis was
conducted, the water displacement method was proven to be more accurate.

Repeat measuring the mass of the object three (3) more times; ensuring that the balance is re zeroed
after each measurement. Tabulate data gathered. Procedure 2: Find the mass of the object given,
as done in procedure 1. Ensure that the object is dry when it is being placed on the balance, as
this will yield an inaccurate reading. Get a clean 1000milliter beaker. Fill the beaker to
approximately half its capacity. Note the exact volume of water placed into the beaker. When
reading the volume of the water, ensure that this is done at eye level, and that it is read at the
bottom of the meniscus. After noting the initial volume of water, place the object carefully into the
water. DO NOT SPLASH. Note the final volume of water in the beaker. Tabulate data gathered.

Early Timurid Art
The early Timurid art displayed strong Chinese influences. T. Lentz and G. Lowry found that
cursive and poetic lines and contours in Persian manuscripts might be the outcome of Persians
study of the Chinese literati paintings. Some of the Chinese sketches on Buddhist monks or birds
such as hawks were reproduced in the Timurid Court. The admiration of the Chinese styles was
more evident in the paintings by Kamal al Din Bihzad whose advocacy of Romanticism and
Naturalism had their references to pre modern Chinese still life and landscape paintings. Besides
paintings and manuscripts, the record of trade transactions in Turfan specifies that the major export

Ed Gein was such a controversial and disturbing figure that his story inspired a lot of plots for

The definition of attachment involves an affectional bond that infants need to form with a
differentiated and preferred individual that becomes an attachment figure, consisting in a sustained
nurturing relationship with the sensitive caregiver (Bowlbly, 1979). Attachment is conceptualized
as an evolutionary feature: individuals can create a secure base around which one is able to
explore and gain independence as well as a safe haven to which individuals can return and be
reassured in a situation of distress or danger (Ainsworth et al., 1978; Bowlby, 1969).
On the contrary, unresponsive or atypical ways of parenting can lead to aberrant behaviours or, if
others risk factors are present, to psychopathology (Jacobsen, Edelstein, Hoffman, 1994; Schaffer,
1996). Secure attachment with the primary caregiver is necessary for social and emotional
regulation as well as cognitive and resilience abilities(Bowlby, 1982; Ainsworth Bell,1970); insecure
attachment affects individuals life in many aspects, especially the ability to face distress (Macbeth
et al., 2011), and not too rarely the aftermaths of an insane attachment can culminate in personality
disorders (Crawford et al.,

The Works of Nathaniel Hawthorne
Nathaniel Hawthorne was an American novelist and short story writer who was born in Salem,
Massachusetts July fourth 1804. When Hawthorne was a young man he served as the editor of
the American Magazine of Useful and Entertaining Knowledge. That job introduced him into the
world of writing and at that point he decided what he wanted to do until the day he died. I do not
want to be a doctor and live by men s diseases, nor a minister to live by their sins, nor a lawyer
and live by their quarrels. So, I don t see that there is anything left for me to be but an author.
Hawthorne was found too dense, too gloomy, and to complex. To overcome these problem people
would attempt to view Hawthorne as a riddler and wry joke who always challenged himself and all
authorities. Hawthorne published several diminutive stories in various publications which he
collected in 1873 as Twice Told Tales. The 1900 s American author Nathaniel Hawthorne
s writings
were influenced by his guilt because of his non repentant grandfathers involvement in the Salem
witch trials. Hawthorne boarded with a poet named Thomas Green Fessenden on Hancock Street in
Beacon Hill Boston. After his strategic move to join with this poet he started to get into the flow of
producing good books people wanted to read. When readers started to understand Hawthorne s use
of Dante, Spencer, and the Bible this helped them to better understand Hawthornes imagination.
Hawthorne married Sophia Peabody in 1836

That means no making CD mixes or putting music from your CDs on the computer, which is all

legitimate reasons for someone to copy their CDs, however. First, instead of taking a whole

how many times have you scratched a CD? Too many to count, no doubt, and by being able to

Performance Environment Occupation Performance Model
Performance Environment Occupation Performance Model
Occupational Therapy, along with many other professions, have models that guide the profession.
These models, known as the Occupational based Models of Practice, guide Occupational
Therapists in the care of clients (Cole Tufano, 2008, p. 87). Although there are many models, each
model has its own distinct features and focuses. Similar in many forms, they also have unique
characteristics, and each have a different emphasis. These models have the guiding principles of
occupation defined as, a basic human need, an essential component of human life, organizes
behavior, gives meaning to life, enables a healthy lifestyle, and improves an individual s quality
of life (Cole Tufano, 2008, p. 127). So while all of the models are similar in some aspects in
terms of occupation, each model is unique in some aspects as well. The Person Environment
Occupation Performance Model (PEOP) is one of the five models, incorporating a client centered
approach to a person s occupations (Cole Tufano, 2008, p. 8).
Focus
The Peron Environment Occupation Performance Model was published in 1991 by Charles
Christiansen and Carolyn Baum. This model is a client centered approach focusing on occupations,
and how these occupations are meaningful to the client. Within this model, it is important for the
client to decide the occupations that are important to themselves. The areas of occupation are, work

INTRODUCTION
EDMUND SPENCER
Edmund Spenser was an English writer best known for The Faerie Queene, an epic ballad and
fantastical moral story commending the Tudor tradition and Elizabeth I. He is perceived as one of
the head experts of Modern English verse in its earliest stages, and one of the best artists in the
English dialect.
Edmund Spenser was conceived in East Smithfield, London around the year 1552 however there
is some vagueness as to the careful date of his introduction to the world. As a young person, he
was taught in London at the Merchant Taylors School and registered as a sizar at Pembroke
College, Cambridge. While at Cambridge he turned into a companion of Gabriel Harvey, and later
counseled him, in spite of their varying perspectives on verse.
In July 1580 Spenser went to Ireland, in the administration of the recently selected Lord Deputy,
Arthur Gray, fourteenth Baron Gray de Wilton. At that point he presented with the English
strengths amid the Second Desmond Rebellion. After the annihilation of the local Irish he took

victory of Ireland. Among his acquaintances in the region was Walter Raleigh, a kindred pioneer.
Through his verse Spenser would have liked to secure a spot at court, which he went by in Raleigh

Brokeback Mountain Stereotypes
Cowboys define America. From rounding up cattle to hair raising gunfight duels, the Wild West has
become one of the most recognized symbols of what it means to be a true grit American. But what
happens when you mix this staunch, western culture with what traditional America believes to be
its toughest opponent: homosexuality? In Brokeback Mountain, Jack and Ennis embody the
epitome of the predictable American man: tough, masculine, and bold. As we expect them to
saddle up and charm all the pretty cow belles, the two men end up exploring their passion for one
another and ultimately fall in love. This tragic love story of two all american cowboys completely

idealized western masculinity that fetishizes the outdoors and ascetic lifestyle. Although this is a
valid argument, I see more of a devoted bond between the two men because of a similar,
undisclosed life that both so uniquely share. The raw emotion in the film is laid out in a way that
forces one to see unrelenting love despite the need to label it. The fact that neither are able to adopt

In spite of the fact that China s engagement into multilateral participation in the South China Sea
dispute comes up with compositions on conflict management in this area by various researchers, so
far not very many endeavours have been made to clarify the explanations behind China s changing
state of mind towards multilateralism (Desjardins 2014). The current level headed discussions
essentially take after three lines of contentions. The three systemic theories incorporated in it are
realism, liberalism, and constructivism (Chang 2014). Talking into consideration these three
theories, the China s South China Sea approach from a particular point of view is projected below.
2.1Realism
Since 1919, there is a common emphasis on the realism in world politics and this has caused the
Realist Theory to become prominent for mostly all the matters of international relations as perceived
from Carr (2014). The realism has been continued to be part of international relations since this time
and it has still been under consideration with high dominance. The dominance of this theory was
provided after the cold war and then it remained in power. The main focus of realism theory in the
proposed study would remain in the delivery of the background study of the dispute that is a South
China Sea dispute, in accordance with its evolution, conflict management, and resolution
(Morgenthau 2014). This would help in understanding the nature acquired by the claimant nations

Vraduation Speech For Graduation
Valedictorian
Good evening. We ve done it graduates, thinking about this day since september 2016, tonight, we
gather together as one graduating class and a community to celebrate a journey, an adventure. Staff,
parents, guardians, siblings and friends we are glad you get to experience the graduation of the class
of 2017 with us. Each one of us has come so far since our first day in kindergarten no matter what
school we went to. As I look around at each and every graduate in this room, my mind is flooded
with memories. 10 years ago, when we all started elementary, a lot of us were most likely scared
of the grade 8 s who were older and more knowledgeable than us. But now, just short years later,
here we are, wondering if the little ones are frightened by us. Another year at Orchard park has
gone by quick, but this one, being our last. Many memories have created this time In elementary
school to be one of a kind, and it is an honour to be speaking on behalf of each and everyone of us.
We are a truly unique and fun group of students who have definitely had some good laughs these
past few years and will remember them for time to come. From yogurt splatting onto our ceilIngs
and certain individuals stuck in elevators to incidents with sand, having competition between the
grade 8 classes to make snow forts, the grade 7 camping trip, the Ottawa grad trip, and I haven t
forgotten about our historical debates, I believe that it is truly the small details of these past years

Nietzshean And Marx s Influence On Demian
Nietzshean And Marx s Influence On Demian
The novel Demian is highly influenced by some of Nietzsche s and Marx s ideas. Demian is an
important character that displays Nietzschean qualities of the overman (Nietzsche 125). With his
meeting with Sinclair, Demian put the seeds of doubt in Sinclair s mind about conception of truth
and the will of power that are both concepts found in Nietzsche s work. Demian also resembles
Nietzsche s character of Zarathustra and how he believes the importance of creating new set of
values. The resemblance with Marx is Demian s and Sinclair s belief that we should seek answers
within ourselves and not from a metaphysical world.
Hermann Hesse s book gets its title from his very important character Demian. ... Show more

However, they believe that the traditional values need to be re evaluated through their journey to
self education. The man who breaks their table of values, the breaker, the lawbreaker, yet he is the
creator. (Thus Spoke Zarathustra 135). In this extract, Nietzsche introduces the relation between
destruction and creation. The creation of new values could only be possible if the creation of a
new god takes place. Unlike Nietzsche, Hesse did not transmit the message that religion was
something to avoid and completely destruct. Demian and Sinclair still want to believe in a
superior figure, but a new one that has different values than the Abrahamic god. We can think of
the name as referring to something like a deity whose symbolic task is to unite the divine and the
satanic (Hesse 75). This quote refers to the god Abraxas whom Sinclair is very interested in. He

George Orwell s The Film V For Vendetta Directed By James...
In society, people often look up to our government to provide honourable and righteous justice that
upholds our basic human rights .Through the analysis of dystopian texts including 1984 written by
George Orwell, Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut Jr, and the film V for Vendetta directed by
James Mcteigue, the concept of a totalitarian government that exerts control over to the senses is
explored throughout all these texts. The stripping of privacy and freedom demonstrates this control
over the mass of society. The demonization of the enemy through propaganda creates fear in society
of the enemy thus allowing the government to sustain control. Finally, law enforcing bodies help in
keeping order and control in society through unrighteous... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This demonstrates Winston s anxiety and fear of being observed by the thought police. The
government creates an environment where its citizens understand that the slightest demonstration
of rebellion which could be as small as a nervous tic or an unconscious look of anxiety that could
lead to the vaporization of an individual. The angst of looking anything but in complete
admiration of Big Brother leads citizens into a state of constant panic of watching what they do.
The government uses this to control their people however they decide as a result of nobody being
able to rebel the lack of privacy or freedom that the government provides. Similarly, the use of
handicaps in Harrison Bergeron written by Kurt VonnegutJr, suppresses individual citizens which
allows the government the ability to enforce absolute control among its citizens. Handicaps are
used by the government to suppress any physical or mental trait of a person that is above average.
In the case of George Bergeron, his Intelligence was way above normal [so he is given] a little
mental handicap radio (Vonnegut 1) which scrambles his thoughts and prevents him from taking
unfair advantage of his brains (Vonnegut 1). The process of handicapping individuals is an example
of how the government suppresses the individual in order to maintain

On the other hand, Darcy could just be saying this because he is insecure that she is not interested
in him and does not want to show this. So he decides to put down
Elizabeth instead of showing that he is hurt by Elizabeth s decision.
Darcy is also shown to be prejudice towards Elizabeth s family in chapter 33 in another way.
Congratulated himself on lately having saved a friend from the inconveniences of a most imprudent
marriage .
Fitzwilliam says to Elizabeth that Darcy has said this. Darcy is shown to be boasting about the
fact that he has saved his friend form a marriage. He thinks that he has saved his friend from
marrying a woman not worth it, and who is not of the same class as them. Elizabeth s pride is
again hurt because he is downgrading her family. Darcy thinks that Elizabeth s sister Jane is not
good enough for his friend,
Mr.Bingley. So, Elizabeth s hatred for Darcy is growing by the fact that he is prejudice towards her
family.
The audience now are made to believe that Darcy is the bad guy .
However they do not realise that what Fitzwilliam has said, could be gossip. Elizabeth shows

Negan In The Walking Dead Season 6
Although the eleventh episode of The Walking Dead Season 6 put the spotlight on the Hilltop
Colony, it was evident that the fear of Negan was in the air. Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and his
group finally got a taste of what Jeffrey Dean Morgan s villain is capable of when a member of
Hilltop was sent back to assassinate Gregory (Xander Berkeley) and it certainly feels like Negan
will be making his appearance pretty soon. But will we finally see the merciless comic villain on
the AMC series? According to TheWrap, The Walking Dead showrunner Scott Gimple recently
hinted that previous reports were mistaken by saying that Morgan will make his debut as Negan in
the season finale. There have been articles pinpointing exactly when Negan shows up, and

Three Pointer Shot Percentage Of Mba Essay
My aim in doing this project with the set of data I have is to find out if the amount of games a
person plays in the NBA effects there three pointer shot percentage. NBA stands for National
Basketball Association. A three pointer applies to a game called basketball. You shoot a three
pointer when you are behind the arc on one side of the court. The answer to this question may
seem simple but it really isn t. For example, in the NBA there has been a number of people that
played 20 games but has a better three pointer shot percentage than someone that had played 50
games in the NBA. Even though someone plays more games in the NBA, it does not mean that
their shooting average would be better than someone who has not played as much games as they
did. ESPN is a U.S. based global cable and satellite television channel owned by ESPN Inc. I am
not sure how the number of games effects three pointer shot percentage, but i would like to discover

mean and the mode of the data set. After, I will make a line regression to graph the line of best fit

The Role Of Imperialism In Ancient Rome
History has shown the rise and fall of civilizations throughout time. Throughout the ages man has
risen above the rest and then declined down to nothing. The idea that has stuck with man was the
idea to conquer and build and build a utopian city. The birth of imperialistic nations that grew from
nothing and into something formidable. Nations as old as Persia, Macedonia, and even Rome have
shown these views of imperialismas early as ancient times. In ancient times they were large
civilizations that once have been empires that controlled enormously large territories of land
because of numerous reasons.Even in 1858 when England owned India and when Japan went island

The aqueducts were gravity fed. Meaning that they had a slight downward slope in them to
allow the water to slide down towards Rome. When the aqueduct was checked by a surveyor
every so often. The surveyor would use a tool called a chorobates to make sure the slope contains
its consistent five percent to a two percent gradient. The structure of the aqueducts was
revolutionary in architecture in those times because according to David Macauley When the
keystone was inserted in the center, the arch was complete this was essential because the keystone
allowed the weight to be evenly distributed along an arch. This means the Romans would have
saved more time and effort building arches rather than complete wall like bridges. The Romans
knew that these pipelines would be an easy target for any invaders trying to cause Rome to fall.
They build these water bridges at variable heights, but approximately around thirty meters high. So
Rome had these massive and long aqueducts running through Italy, which is kind of amazing, but
what really is astonishing his how they built the bridge to go through hills. They had these hills
traveling through the hills for primarily two reasons. First, they already had the bridge started and

Persuasive Essay On Snowing In Sports
Hockey is a game that should be fun and played with sticks and pucks not with scraped ice.
Snowing is an action where a player stops in front of the goalie either intestinally or by accident.
This creates snow, which ends up spraying the goalie in the face with the snow that was created.
The school made the correct decision that snowing in practice for fun is considered hazing.
Making snowing a habit in practice for the players, they would think its ok to do it in games.
Snowing is considered unsportsmanlike penalty if its done intentionally, in the discretion of the
referee. But snowing has no real physical abuse; it won t leave any significant damage to the kid
s eyes. Snowing in practice shouldn t be tolerated; it could make the kids think that snowing is
okay. When the kids believe its okay they would bad habits, eventually doing it on purpose in
games to distract the goalie. This isn t okay this action shows a sign of bad sportsmanship,
which is never okay in sports. These could lead to bad habits later in life when playing time or
roster spots is limited. When these kids still have these habits, these kids would either get limited
playing time or not be offered a spot even though they are skilled. The player would feel upset
that they didn t make it even though you are skilled. Coaches these days would rather take less
skilled players with a good personality and sportsmanship than players who are skilled without a
good personality. This is because having these players

Parental Neglect By Roald Dahl s Matilda And Neil Gaiman...
Child abuse, in any form, is cause for outrage. This makes the question of whether neglect, benign
or otherwise, is better than violence hard to consider. According to Canada s Public Health Agency,
parental neglect, at 34% of cases, is the most commonly reported form of child maltreatment (31).
In Roald Dahls Matilda and Neil Gaiman s Coraline, parental neglect is contrasted against
violence as both are shown to be psychologically detrimental to a child, while the impact of these
imperfect parents is able to help a child redefine their sense of self.
The overt neglect of her prodigal intellect experienced by Matilda leaves her feeling
misunderstood and an outsider in her family which differs from the perceived neglect which
leaves Coraline struggling with her sense of self. Born to parents described as gormless (Dahl
4), Matilda is both blessed and cursed with a prodigal intellect. Causing Matilda to crave
knowledge, it is her intellect that leads her at the age of four years and three months (9), to defy
her parents and everyday walk to the library. Matilda admits to this neglect to Mrs. Phelps, the
librarian, when she tells her of her mother, She doesn t encourage reading books. Nor does my
father (10). With this statement Matilda shows how her parents have neglected to foster her
intellect. Matilda s eagerness to digest information, and the fact that the only book in the
Wormwood home is her mother s cookbook, elaborates how she differs from her parents.

  • 2. Field Army Compliance Report I am writing out of need for your assistance with a grievance against the unit 1 30th FA Bravo Btry regarding myself 2LT Cedric Street. Upon graduation of the Field Artillery BOLC I was to assume the role of a Fire Support Officer at Fort Bragg 82nd Airborne, however this has come with undue burden and hardship. The 1 30 TH opened an investigation against myself after receiving a complaint that I had cheated on my final exams. The accusation had just been brought to my attention on Friday, August 21, 2015 after a two week window in which this matter could have been addressed more concisely without placing undue burden on me or family. On Tuesday August 18th I attended the graduation ceremony and received my certificate and 1059 stating that I had completed all academic and physical standards needed to complete Field Artillery BOLC, however in the preceding days, namely at close of business of Friday August 21, 2015 my commanding... • 3. Analysis Of The Book Colorado Essay This project was intended to show and persuade the audience to appreciate and enjoy the outdoors in Colorado. But if not that then the purpose was to help understand the importance of wilderness to some people and how it affects people s lives for the better. My main rhetorical appeals are, pathos, logos, and a bit of ethos. The photo essay, the memoir, the film review and the editorial all appealto pathos more than the others. The instructional essay appealed to logos. The editorial and the instructional essay also contain pieces of ethos. Also the photo essaygives the entire project an appeal to ethos because it shows that I ve actually been on many mountains and that helps with what I say in my other pieces. Photo Essay: The purpose of this photo essay is to tell the audience the story of my most recent climb and show them that being out on the mountain is an amazing experience. I feel that my photos do a good job with this. With a small amount of editing the photos accurately show what it looks like to be on a climb. The order of these photos show the grueling physical challenge it is to climb a 14er. Photo after photo of the peak getting closer and closer helps to convey not only the obvious physical challenge but also the great mental capacity it takes to keep moving up the peak. The one thing that lacks in the photo essay is some of the captions are more informative instead of telling a story. The caption on the 6th photo reads The terrain becomes less ... • 5. The Importance Of Creativity In Education Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist after growing up (Pablo Picasso). Teachers should use creativity to help students find a balance between different types of thinking. Therefore, creative skills are just as important as a creative attitude. Schools need to offer children a larger variety of creative experiences. It s a wonderful way for children to express themselves. Furthermore, expression is very important because everyone needs a chance to show who they are and what they feel. Creative opportunities is not only helpful in schools, but it also paves a way into a creative future. There are many jobs that involve art, music, writing, and other creative skills. Students need to have more opportunities and knowledge in creativitybecause it helps students develop skills, allows students to express themselves, and they will have more job opportunities in a creative field. The firm educational system we have today is stealing the creative and competitive side of our students. There are many concepts that should be teachers priority and they should include it straightaway. According to Linkner, a CEO and tech entrepreneur, The first concept is to create automatic memorization to teach problem solving in a creative way (Linkner 7). • 6. How Is Sisyphus Similar 1). Phil s scenario is similar to Sisyphus because they are both stuck in a situation where they have to repeat doing the same thing over and over. For example, Phil keeps reliving Groundhog Day while Sisyphus has to roll a rock up a hill for eternity. Another example of how Phil s and Sisyphus scenarios are similar is how they got themselves into repeating the same day over. Phil was rude to people and did not enjoy the little aspects of life during his stay and news casting in Punxsutawney for Groundhog Day. Unlike Phil, Sisyphus created many crimes that the gods did not appreciate. Phil s scenario is different from Sisyphus because Phil got to change the way he wanted to act and the things he wanted to do. For example, after he realized that he was going to keep reliving Groundhog s Day, he decided to take advantage of the situation. On one of the days Phil decided to drive foolishly around town with two drunks that he met at a bar and ends up in jail. Since he is reliving the same day many times, he decides to steal money from the money truck. Sisyphus however just gets stuck with continuously rolling the rock up the hill and he has to deal with his hour of consciousness .... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But near the end we see a change in Phil, he is much kinder to people. He starts to embrace what is happening to him, instead of thinking of himself all the time he starts to do service for others in the community. We can see that he struggles with the consequence he is faced with but in the end we see that Phil changes his attitude in the way he sees life. He gets the girl, he gets the happiness he was looking for, and he breaks the cycle. Existentialism is demonstrated in the movie when we can visually see that Phil can change his view towards life so he could live a better ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They live in a different country, and he hasn t seen them in a while, that s all. Even though she has had multiple chances to talk to Dora and her parents about the war in Pakistan and the impacts it had on Mr.Pirzada, she doesn t bring up the issue or try to inform them about it. This is because Lilia didn t try to history of her motherland until she met Mr. Pirzada, thus she knows Dora won t be interested or can relate to the issue as Dora is an American. Some estimate that without slavery the population of Africa would have been double the 25m it had reached by 1850 (BBC). Before Europeans invaded Africa, Africa had a population of 25 million people. The large population helped Africamaintain strong kingdoms such as Axum and Mali. The black color of the Supra represents the variety of traditional religions that different African groups worshipped. The color black can represent all different religions since the mix of all colors make black, therefore black can represent a mixture of many religions that different Africans practiced. The first opinion is that there are several African Religions. This writing assignment, I will elaborate on how this company affects the economy, production, attitudes and motivation of their workers. The faults which persuaded the perpetrator, or perpetrators, would depend on who was the one behind the Piltdown hoax. For instance, years later after Piltdown man was exposed as a hoax, a trunk with Martin A. C. Hilton s initials were found in the attic of the Natural History Museum after his passing. Elizabeth Barrett Browning s The Cry Of The Children Elizabeth Barrett Browning s The Cry of the Children Like many writers in the Victorian Age, Elizabeth Barrett Browning used her poetry as a platform to reach a larger audience to bring awareness to contemporary social issues (Greenblatt, Elizabeth Barrett Browning pp. 1,123). Common issues that were written about during the Victorian Age included inequality between men and women, child labor and the American abolitionist movement (1,123). • 19. Red Badge of Courage Essay To Be or Not to Be... A Man The Red Badge of Courage written by Stephen Crane is a prime example of bildungsroman, or a coming of age story. Crane begins with a cowardly boy, Henry Fleming, and ends with an experienced war hero who has learned not just what war really is, but who he really is. Mark Twain once said, The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time. [Epigraph] Although he struggles to learn that being a soldier means more than just showing up at battle, Henry uses the influences of the attitudes, events, and his own inner thoughts to complete his metamorphosis psychologically and morally. He also learns that he may have to sacrifice himself at some point to save... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Henry fights with himself on the issue of if he is ready for this war or not when he contemplates on whether he would run away during battle or stay in combat. He views the war as almost a dream at first, visioning marches, sieges, conflicts, hoping that he would encounter challenges like these (Crane 4). He would soon come to find however, that war was nothing like he imagined. This realization leads to his psychological transformation and growth and sets the stage for Henry s journey of becoming a man through battles and deaths that prepare him to evolve into the hero he is later. It is most clearly seen that Henry starts to make this psychological transition from boy to man at the beginning of his war experience in the story. Henry realizes that a man became another thing in battle (Crane 19). Although he does not actually demonstrate how he has become another thing in the first battle when he retreats, Henry becomes more of a fighting man instead of a young boy. This is shown through his thoughts about how he needs to return to his regiment and stick to what he committed to. On his journey to escape, the sights he encounters push his development along. Such sights included were witnessing a dead man in a green chapel and discovering that a red badge is a sign of honor and an accomplishment in war. It is noticed that he starts to think in terms of a soldier, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Feminism During 19th Century American Short Stories Kaylee Gould Ms. Henderson 3rd period Feminism in Late 19th Century American Short Stories Research Question: How is feminism revealed through the divergence of women s roles in society and their own personal desires in the American short stories The Yellow Wall Paper, The Story of an Hour, The Storm, and Life in the Iron Mills ? Introduction Literature changes as current events change and as the structure of society begins to shift. American feminist literature started to become prevalent during the Victorian era, or around the latter part of the 19th century. This is the time when the first wave of feminismin the United States hit. The Seneca Falls Convention the first women s rights convention and the emergence of Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony s American Equal Rights Association in the middle of the 19th century are among some of the noteable events that sparked this movement in literature. Women across America were inspired by the changing of the times, and that is reflected in many American female authors writings. Some of these authors include Charlotte Perkins Gilman, Kate Chopin, and Rebecca Harding Davis, whose short stories speak volumes about the thoughts and emotions of women during this time period. Life in the Iron Mills was written in 1861, The Yellow Wall Paper in 1892, The Story of an Hour in 1894, and finally The Storm in 1898. This house was built in 1853 by the Huff family, over time passed through many different owners, and in 2002 was officially bought by Roanoke College. Throughout the history of the house several of the occupants are known to have died within the premises of the property, thus contributing to it s reputation of being haunted. In our investigation of the Monterey house we spent two nights in the house gathering various types of data to aid us in our attempt to discover what theoryof haunting is consistent with the experiences within the house. The experiences within the house can be explained through several different theories... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, the numerous dowsing hits found in the house can be attributed to the priming or bias of the people conducting the dowsing sweeps. They might be unaware of the priming and the bias caused by following or trying to repeat the results of another. In addition to the dowsing hits, the psychological theory of explanation is also supported by the reports of hearing voices that are not actually there. This can be attributed to a lack of sleep causing hallucinations, fueled by a self fulfilling prophecy, like purposefully looking for a specific piece of evidence in your data until you find it, and can even be attributed to hearing damage or impairment due to health problems or old age. Another possible explanation for the hauntings can be seen with deja vu, or the experiencing of intense familiarity with something in the present environment that leads you to believe you have experienced it before. An exemplification of this theory can be seen when Robin experienced feelings of familiarity while listening to a song during one of the vigils, but could not place where she had heard it before. This feeling of familiarity is derived by the brain s inability to recall the information related to the potential memory, and is sometimes referred to as the tip of the tongue phenomena. The two essays in The Fire Next Time talk about the problem that the African Americancommunity faced, but from different perspectives. The author is writing to his nephew and is trying to make him understand that the situation is intolerable and not likely to change. He suggests that instead of reacting from a place of anger and hate, that the nephew should fight and strive to change the situation rather than confronting it violently. That his nephew and even the community as a whole should try to almost outsmart the whites by being the opposite of what they think of them. To prove them wrong and hopefully change the way they are looked at. He suggests a change of attitudes on both sides, to spread love and understanding instead of hate and animosity. • 26. Synopsis Of A Book Meridian By Alice Walker Essay Nataliya Tyshchenko Professors Aberbach, Decker, Fink GE Cluster: America in the Sixties 4 November 2016 Time Warp: Meridian In psychology, the primacy effect is defined as the tendency to recall primary information better than information divulged later on. This observation can be extended to how first impressions resonate well in the minds of humans. In her historical novel, Meridian, author Alice Walker reshapes perceptions about who holds power and moral authority and what determines this by making time out of joint (choosing an interesting narrative structure, with a most important beginning) and employing symbolism and repetition. Abandoning chronological order forces a reader to constantly abandon preconceived notion about characters, events, movements, and even themselves. As a result, the meaning of reality, life, and what is normal is resignified . The effect of narrative structure is evident when Walker s choice for the beginning of the novel affects the reader s perception of moral authority and power for the rest of the novel. By opening with multiple, and incredibly varying, definitions of the word Meridian, Walker establishes her idea that the main character is tough to pin down. Who she is will not be clear to the audience. This perhaps presages that Meridian s moral authority and power will not be easily defined or pinned down either and it is useless to try to assign a secondary meaning ( myth ) to her because it will always shift. The objective is to find two ways in which the density of a given object can be determined, and to find out which of the two ways is more accurate and hence better to use in such a case. The two methods used in this experiment are finding the dimensions of the object and water displacement. These are two ways of finding the volume of an object, and they were chosen since the density of an object may be found using its mass and its volume. Just from the first glimpse of this piece of artwork, one can be filled with unbridled, deep felt emotion. This piece of artwork has some very emotional extremes. The bodies of the people that are laying on the raft, most of them are dead, but others look as if they are in pain and are suffering. The facial expressions of these people are are not good. • 44. Brokeback Mountain Stereotypes Cowboys define America. From rounding up cattle to hair raising gunfight duels, the Wild West has become one of the most recognized symbols of what it means to be a true grit American. But what happens when you mix this staunch, western culture with what traditional America believes to be its toughest opponent: homosexuality? In Brokeback Mountain, Jack and Ennis embody the epitome of the predictable American man: tough, masculine, and bold. As we expect them to saddle up and charm all the pretty cow belles, the two men end up exploring their passion for one another and ultimately fall in love. This tragic love story of two all american cowboys completely redefines the all too common stereotypes surrounding gay men. As James R. Keller and Anne Goodwyn Jones faultlessly state in their journal, This film allow itself to assert the legitimacy and beauty of romantic love between men by endorsing more traditional narratives... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even after having this conversation and years following of a continued love affair, they never alter their claim that they are not queers. As Keller and Jones state in their journal, One could argue that Jack and Ennis are in love with each other partly because they are both in love with an idealized western masculinity that fetishizes the outdoors and ascetic lifestyle. Although this is a valid argument, I see more of a devoted bond between the two men because of a similar, undisclosed life that both so uniquely share. The raw emotion in the film is laid out in a way that forces one to see unrelenting love despite the need to label it. The fact that neither are able to adopt their sexuality only furthers the initiative behind the film. China s Engagement Into Multilateral Participation Essay 2Literature Review In spite of the fact that China s engagement into multilateral participation in the South China Sea dispute comes up with compositions on conflict management in this area by various researchers, so far not very many endeavours have been made to clarify the explanations behind China s changing state of mind towards multilateralism (Desjardins 2014). The current level headed discussions essentially take after three lines of contentions. The three systemic theories incorporated in it are realism, liberalism, and constructivism (Chang 2014). Talking into consideration these three theories, the China s South China Sea approach from a particular point of view is projected below. 2.1Realism Since 1919, there is a common emphasis on the realism in world politics and this has caused the Realist Theory to become prominent for mostly all the matters of international relations as perceived from Carr (2014). The realism has been continued to be part of international relations since this time and it has still been under consideration with high dominance. The dominance of this theory was provided after the cold war and then it remained in power. The main focus of realism theory in the proposed study would remain in the delivery of the background study of the dispute that is a South China Sea dispute, in accordance with its evolution, conflict management, and resolution (Morgenthau 2014). Demian is an important character that displays Nietzschean qualities of the overman (Nietzsche 125). With his meeting with Sinclair, Demian put the seeds of doubt in Sinclair s mind about conception of truth and the will of power that are both concepts found in Nietzsche s work. Demian also resembles Nietzsche s character of Zarathustra and how he believes the importance of creating new set of values. • 57. Persuasive Essay On Snowing In Sports Hockey is a game that should be fun and played with sticks and pucks not with scraped ice. Snowing is considered unsportsmanlike penalty if its done intentionally, in the discretion of the referee. But snowing has no real physical abuse; it won t leave any significant damage to the kid s eyes. Snowing in practice shouldn t be tolerated; it could make the kids think that snowing is okay. • 58. Parental Neglect By Roald Dahl s Matilda And Neil Gaiman... Child abuse, in any form, is cause for outrage. This makes the question of whether neglect, benign or otherwise, is better than violence hard to consider. According to Canada s Public Health Agency, parental neglect, at 34% of cases, is the most commonly reported form of child maltreatment (31). In Roald Dahls Matilda and Neil Gaiman s Coraline, parental neglect is contrasted against violence as both are shown to be psychologically detrimental to a child, while the impact of these imperfect parents is able to help a child redefine their sense of self. The overt neglect of her prodigal intellect experienced by Matilda leaves her feeling misunderstood and an outsider in her family which differs from the perceived neglect which leaves Coraline struggling with her sense of self. Born to parents described as gormless (Dahl 4), Matilda is both blessed and cursed with a prodigal intellect. Causing Matilda to crave knowledge, it is her intellect that leads her at the age of four years and three months (9), to defy her parents and everyday walk to the library. Matilda admits to this neglect to Mrs. Phelps, the librarian, when she tells her of her mother, She doesn t encourage reading books. Nor does my father (10). With this statement Matilda shows how her parents have neglected to foster her intellect.
