Strategic Management at Brewery Industries
Global forces and the European brewing industry
This case is centred on the European brewing industry and examines how the increasingly
competitive pressure of operating within global markets is causing consolidation through
acquisitions, alliances and closures within the industry. This has resulted in the growth of the
brewers reliance upon super brands.
In the first decade of the twenty first century, European brewers faced a surprising paradox. The
traditional centre of the beer industry worldwide, and still the largest regional market, Europe, was
turning off beer. Beer consumption was falling in the largest markets of Germany and the United
Kingdom, while burgeoning in emerging markets around the world. China, with 7 ... Show more

Emotion Regulation in Infants Essay
Emotion regulation involves intrinsic and extrinsic processing of monitoring and modifying
emotional reactions in both positive or negative situations (Martins, 2012). In order for individuals
to have the ability to regulate emotions, they must beware of their emotions. Although infants are
unaware and lack the ability to regulate their emotions, it then becomes the role of a primary carer
to nurture the infant, thus acting as a model for regulating emotions. Evidently, infants grow to
reflect the ways in which their carers control and modify their emotions as well as social
boundaries. Furthermore, emotionregulationis considered an important aspect of an individuals life
as it can moderate emotions and keep them in a manageable range... Show more content on

What is emotion regulation in infants 0 4?
The regulation of emotions within adults is considerably more complex than within an infant.
However, this does not mean that infants do not share the same feelings as adults do. Infant
emotion regulation is evidently derived from their primary carers. Empirical research supports idea
as stated by Diener (et al, 2002) whereby the study conducted involved infants completing a strange
situations procedure, this explored the connection between mother infant relationship and the
behavioural strategies used by infants for emotion regulation. Therefore, behavioural strategies used
by infants including self soothing, withdrawal and self distraction with objects is when it is clear
that infants have the ability to control and monitor their emotions (Martins, 2012; Diener et al.,
2002). These strategies are supported through various studies conducted by Martins (2012) as they
explore infants who are able to cope with their emotions obtain certain strategies which contribute
to their ability to regulate their behaviour for example using distractions. Evidently, this shows the
development of infant emotion regulation skills (Diener et al, 2002). Moreover, infants experience
a range of emotions in numerous frustrating situations, including some as simple as waiting to be
fed or sitting in a car seat waiting to go out. It is from this that infants become more aware of their
emotions and begin to find ways of coping

A View From A Bridge
Following the Second World War in 1945, America emerged from the conflict as a prestigious
superpower and saw the 1950s begin as an era of prosperity and wealth. However, the beginnings
of the Cold War saw increased tension between the USA and the USSR and the capitalist and
communist ideologies. These clashes along with the rise of nuclear power contributed to a tense
and fearful atmosphere, giving rise to a period of McCarthyism. This saw communist witch hunts
and people accused and prosecuted for sympathising with the left political economic model. Author
Arthur Miller was one of such victims; in 1956 he was trialled and fined for refusing to give the
names of communist sympathisers before the House Un American Activities Committee.... Show

Immigration remains a popular political but also ethical topic. For one, we like to consider
ourselves progressive and moving towards a more multicultural world, yet we continue to cherry
pick immigrants with the right qualifications and skills and there is still talk of foreign born
people taking Australian jobs and being detrimental to the economy. The Syrian refugee crisis
exposes further moral and ethical issues linking to the play as even though Australia has granted
12,000 humanitarian places since March 2017, we have done little to help the 5.1 million
refugees escaping the civil war and much controversy and division remains over the topic. The
structure of A View From the Bridge is linear in showing a progression of time. The exposition
introduces the still relevant topics of cross cultural conflicts, justice and the law as well as class
through the construction of setting through staging, dialogue and characterisation. Class is
introduced through the setting, the Italian American neighbourhood of Red Hook, in a worker s
flat, clean, sparse and homely which conveys a working class household. It is also communicated
through the characterisation of Eddie achieved through dialogue and costume. His dialogue is
quite rough and casual, perhaps signifying lower levels of education, for example Where you goin

The And Considerations Behind The Creation Of Our Group...
This essay will discuss the reasons, choices and considerations behind the creation of our group
newsletter, Manaakitanga. It will involve relevant theories to support my following reflective essay,
including research on document design and group dynamics.
The rationale of our Manaakitanga newsletter is for all members across the twenty one branches of
Hospitality New Zealand, informing them about new topics, and sharing the most recent and latest
news within Hospitality NZ (New Zealand) for the employees to read. Manaakitanga is an internal
newsletter for employees, sharing the changes, achievements, the news and events that have a
broader appeal, keeping the interest alive for the readers (Kent, 2011).
First of all the content of Manaakitanga involves an interview, Early morning starts on a winning
streak , secondly an article on What is coming up in the summer months , thirdly a spotlight story
on one of Christchurch s most popular restaurants, and last of all a story on New Zealand s
drinking culture and a calendar of events highlighting important up coming courses and events for
employees to attend to.
The interview featured on page four of Manaakitanga is significant to Hospitality NZ because as
we know the Rugby World Cup is occurring at the moment and The Sale and Supply of Alcohol
Amendment Act 2015 are allowing on license and club license holders to open outside of their
normal opening hours to screen live Rugby World Cup games. Many of the rugby games are

The Nuclear Bomb Of Hiroshima And Nagasaki
Who is good and who is Evil? Many of us go through life thinking that whatever we do must be
what is good, never questioning authority and blindly following a government that is thought to
be incapable of doing evil. After World War II, many Americans felt a sense of nationalism. They
were proud of the fact that their military destroyed Nazi Germany and Imperialist Japan. However
this euphoric patriotism can often blind the holder. In August of 1945, the United States Military
dropped two nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. There were noble reasons for dropping
the bombs, but surely destroying two entire cities questions the integrity of the United States. So
again I ask, who is good and who is evil? After the events of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the United
States was eager to learn more about the impacts of nuclear devices on the environment. The United
States set up several nuclear bomb tests on the Marshall Islandsin which they properly planned for.
However one test, code named Operation Castle, went horribly wrong. Scientists involved in the
test claim they expected an explosive yield of four to six megatons, but instead a yield of fifteen
resulted. For reference, this is one thousand times greater than the yields of both the Hiroshima and
the Nagasaki nuclear bombs (Huard). Many people believe this was merely a lapse in judgement,
however I believe there is evidence that the United States government intentionally created a
disaster in order to study the effects of

Polio ( Poliomyelitis ) Is A Contagious Illness Caused By...
Polio (Poliomyelitis) is a very contagious illness caused by the poliovirus. The poliovirus affects
the central nervous system, and is known and feared for causing paralysis (CDC, 2015). The
virus is contracted orally (through the mouth), from fecal matter (CDC, 2015): It first goes to
the throat and digestive system (CDC, 2015). Next it enters the lymphatic system, the
bloodstream and finally the Central Nervous System (CNS), were it can cause paralysis due to
damage/destruction of the motor neurons (CDC, 2015). Only people carry the poliovirus, and
it only affects humans (CDC, 2015) No cure, only prevention (CDC, 2015). Once someone has
been in contact with the virus, it can take anywhere from 3 to 35 days to notice symptoms
(NYSDOH, 2014). Most people who contract polio do not get sick (they don t show
symptoms), but they can still pass the virus through stool and spread it to other individuals
(NYSDOH, 2014). Of the individuals who contract polio, only 4 5% get the following
symptoms: headaches, fever, nausea, vomiting, and muscle weakness (NYSDOH, 2014). 1 2%
of people with polio develop severe muscle pain and stiffness in the neck and back (NYSDOH,
2014). Paralysis caused by polio is very rare, of the total amount of individuals who contract the
virus, less than 1% become paralyzed (NYSDOH, 2014). Polio was not addressed as a serious
issue in Nigeria until the mid 1900 s (Renne, 2010). When Europeans (white people) in Nigeria
began contracting the virus,

Essay about Huntington s Disease
Huntington s Disease
Huntington s Disease is a genetic autosomal disorder which effects the brain. It affects about 1 in
20,000 individuals. The symptoms of the disease do not start to occur until after or around 40 years
of age. With the onset of the disease the patient starts to gradually deteriorate intellectually, this
deterioration also causes involuntary movements. Scientists have only recently found the section of
the gene which causes Huntington s disease, and this is allowed them to devise pre symptomatic
tests. However, a cure for the disease is yet to be found.
Symptoms
The symptoms of the Huntington s disease vary from person to person. They can be grouped in two
categories: Abnormal involuntary movements and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is said that Huntington s disease was first introduced to Australia by a Somerset woman who
arrived in Tasmania aboard the Arab ship in 1842. She had thirteen children; eight with her first
husband and five with her second. Five of the six females and four of the seven males inherited the
disease.
Causes of the Disorder
This disease is genetically inherited and is a dominant characteristic, therefore unfortunately the
offspring of a victim has 50% chance of inheriting the disease.
The DNA contains four types base: A (adenine) and T (thymine), G (guanine) and C (cytosine).
These four letters make up the genetic alphabet and they spell out the commands for every single
cell and organ of the body and also determine all the characteristics of the person.
In 1993 it was discovered that a segment of DNA on the arm of chromosome 4 is linked to the
HD gene. They found that at one end of the HD gene, the combination CAG is repeated too
many times. In people without HD this CAG is repeated 5 to 35 times. In people who are affected
by HD, CAG is repeated over and over again between 36 and 121 times.
The CAG combination codes for a protein called huntingtin. Why the increase number of CAG
causes HD is still unknown. It is thought that too much of the HD protein makes them obtain some
new, abnormal property. This is true in two

Willa Cather has a strong admiration for the character Antonia in My Antonia. The introduction of
My Antonia states that the narrator and Jim were to write down all they knew of her in order to

family who has started a farm in Nebraska. Not only is she hard working but throughout the story
she shows characteristics of being strong both inside and out. Also, it is very apparent that she
wants to be independent and make her own decisions. I think Willa Catheradmires the character

American War. The Mexican Army of the North engaged the United States Army of Occupation
on a prairie near current day Brownsville, Texas. The conflict took place on May 8th, 1846 and
was followed the next by the Battle of Resaca de la Palma, about five miles south. Both battles

American soil. Thousands of Americans, who changed citizenship and received large tracts of land

In November of 1845, President Polk named Senator James Slidell of Louisiana as the new
American minster to Mexico (Haecker, 1994), and was sent to secretly negotiate with Mexican

Arrillaga, Commander of the Army of the North, who denied negotiation with the Americans and
demanded the return of the disputed area of Texas. During this time, Polk ordered General Zachary
Taylor, who was preemptively stationed at Corpus Christi, to move his unit down to Port Isabel at
the mouth of the Rio Grande and Gulf of Mexico. This only increased tensions between the two

Fortunately, there is a currently a draft called the Intimate Privacy Act of 2015 , which would
make it a crime to post revenge porn (Brandel). Americans value privacy and it is the reason why
we have laws to protect personal information such as; financial data, medical records, driver s
license, addresses, etc. Laws protecting privacy have a long and important history in this
country, and privacy is essential to the freedom of expression and speech, as well as a being a
fundamental to a democratic society committed to equality and personal autonomy (Warren).
This should be just as true for sexual privacy as it is for financial and medical privacy, and a
federal bill recognizing this issue is long overdue. Despite the current outdated laws that fail to
protect women online, more companies have started to be much more diligent and organizations
such as, Twitter, and Reddit have deemed it necessary to ban revenge porn on their sites, making
the internet a safer place for women, which is a major progression towards the advancement of
the internet in general (Dixit). Most important Google has just recently decided that they will
honor all requests to remove search results that are sexually explicit on the internet that obtain no
consent from that individual. This is a tremendous accomplishment because the philosophy of
Google has always been to have a search engine that would reflect the whole web and under a
federal law passed in 1996, Internet providers and websites are not legally responsible for third
party content posted by users as long as that content does not violate intellectual property or federal
criminal laws (Guynn). More companies are starting to see the significance of revenge porn as they
are intensely personal and emotionally damaging and essentially serve to only degrade the victim,

Evolution Of Host Parasite Relationships

Evolution Case Study #1
Dr. Amanda Duffus
The Evolution of Host Parasite Relationships
Since Darwin s dangerous idea in the nineteenth century, the causes and significances of evolution
have been investigated unceasingly. One evident example of evolution is between parasite and host
relationships, in which host and parasite partners maximize their own fitness, by evolving to reduce
the fitness of the other. Parasites are hypothesized to evolve and cause hosts to evolve, as well as
promoting sexual recombination. There are two major hypotheses of evolution pertaining to host
parasite relationships: the Red Queen hypothesis and the Red King model. The Red Queen
hypothesis claims that there is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Scientist Van Valen used this as a metaphor for the evolutionary race saying that species keep
running (evolving) to stay in the same place, but if they stop, they become extinct. This theory has
been consistently added to and built upon by G. Bell in 1982, who applied it to host and parasite
relationships, showing how evolution affects genotype frequencies and that changes come from
maintaining sexual reproduction. (Lively, 2010) The Red Queen hypothesis demonstrates how
species rely on competition for initiating evolution, and how there is a domino effect of change
causing change. (Barnett and Hansen, 1996) In studies done by Barnett and Hansen (1996) using
an organizational approach, evidence was found for Red Queen evolution in that organizations
exhibited less failure if there was more competition. The research used banks as a model, and the
results showed that in places only one existed, there was an advantage of a monopoly, but did not
have any experience when exposed to competition. (Barnett and Hansen, 1996) The Red Queen
hypothesis also shows that selection favors hosts that have rare resistance alleles. There also is
research that shows generation time affects selection for sex, in that the longer it takes to
reproduce, the more opportunity there is for evolution. The Red Queen hypothesis suggests that
when in regard to parasite and host relationships, when parasites are low in number, the costs of sex
outweigh the benefits and

Critical Analysis Of Levin And Tolstoy
KONSTANTIN LEVIN AS THE SPOKESPERSON OF LEO TOLSTOY
After reading the first part of Anna Karenina, Sophia Andreevna, Tolstoy s wife, had said to him,
Levin is you, Lyova, minus the talent... Levin is an impossible man! Due to multiple similarities
in the character of Levin and Tolstoy, he is often considered as his most complete self portrait.
The social position, the passion for hunting, the love of Russian peasantry, the ideas and opinions
of Tolstoy, all find a reflection in the character of Levin. He is also shown using Tolstoy s method
of criticism by feigned comprehension to matters like elections, government bureaucracy and even
the latest fashion in music. Levin s estate reproduces Tostoy s Yasnaya Polyana, and his marriage
to Kitty duplicates Tolstoy s marriage to Sophia in closest of its details. The death of Levin s
brother Nikolai is drawn from the death of Tolstoy s own brother Nikolai. But the most significant is

peasants with news needs and it would make their material condition worse because they won t be
able to satisfy them . His concern is that the central issue is not lack of education but a weak
economic system which does not facilitate the time and means of education for the peasantry. In a

Modern Techniques Like Cloning And Restriction Enzymes
Introduction:
Humans have interfered with organisms throughout the past, present and will still continue to do so
in the future. In January 1995 14 wolves were captured in Canada to be reintroduced in Yellowstone
changing the biodiversity.
The biological traits change as human s interfere with wildlife, it has affected the population and
the reproduction of species (Mary A. Orland, 2014). Modern techniques like cloning and restriction
enzymes allow genetic material to be transferred from one organism to another to exchange genetic
material. This then puts a permanent change in an organism s gene making it an artificial species
like the Belgian Blue, Featherless chickens and the Enviropig. Although making it cheaper and
easier to produce such as making it simple selecting traits and crops utilizing less applications to
reproduce, GMO s allow farmers to receive more product from the organism allowing them to make
more money. Evolution is how one form of life develops into a different form. Evolution is a
change in the genetic composition of a population over geological time*. It helps explain why
living organisms such as animal, human or plant act and look a certain way. An organism s
genotype is the set of genes that it carries*. Phenotype is the observable characteristic which is
usually influence by the organisms genotype and its surrounding environment. Charles Darwin

Organizations need to decide how performance appraisals will be done and determine the most
effective way of conducting these including the processes necessary. Some studies show that
performance appraisals are often interpreted in a negative way too. If an employee interprets it
as negative, it can have a negative effect on how they conduct their job going forward. This is
why it is crucial for an organization to choose the appropriate format. Rating scales were
developed by Smith and Kendall. One was called the Behaviorally Anchored Rating Scales
(BARS), and the other one was entitled the Extension Agent Behaviors and Results Anchored
Rating System (EABRARS) . Both of the rating scales consist of behavioral measures and not
personality based measures. In the EABRARS format, there were nine different dimensions

Immaterial Qualities In Shakespeare s Richard III

Immaterial Qualities in Richard III
In modern day society, many individuals do not believe that supernatural or immaterial qualities
could play such a tremendous role in everyday life. However, in early British times, the citizens
considered it normal to see supernatural aspects holding significant importance. Although William
Shakespeare was not entirely historically accurate when crafting his play Richard III, he attempted
to maintain the root structure of this period. Shakespeare uses many immaterial qualities including
curses, dreams, ghosts, and time to not only foreshadow a myriad of critical events but also to
emphasize Richard s avarice.
One of the most salient supernatural aspects used throughout Richard III was the idea of curses
and prophecies. Shakespeare used expletives throughout Richard III not only to foreshadow the
impending doom of characters but also to help the reader follow the complicated plot line. Queen
Margaret cast one of the most significant curses from the play declaring, Cancel his bond of life
dear God, I plead. That I may live and to say, The dog is dead (Shakespeare 270). As a result of
Richard s murderous scheme to expunge Edward, Margaret curses Richard s life and insists he will
die soon, as a result of the curse and his horrible deed. To the reader s surprise, Margaret s curse is
fulfilled as Richmond kills Richard in battle at the end of the play. ... Show more content on

I 35 W Bridge Failure and Reconstruction
Introduction:
The I 35W Mississippi river bridge also known as Bridge 9340 officially was an eight lane, steel
truss arch bridge which carried the Interstate 35W across the Mississippi river connected the
downtown east and Marcy Holmes. Its construction began in the year 1964, was finally opened in
1967. It connected the northeast of Metrodome on its south end and the University of Minnesota on
the North end. The bridge was the boundary of Mississippi Mile downtown riverfront parkland. The
north foundation of the bridge was near the hydroelectric plant built in 1988. The south abutment
was in an area polluted by the coal gas processing plant. There weren t any mentions of this in the
failure investigations. The bridge was a continuous truss bridge that had a total span of 1,907 ft. It
was an 8 lane bridge having a width of 113.3ft. and was 115 ft. high. It was designed by Sverdrup
Parcel to 1961 AASHO (American Association Of State Highway Officials) standard specifications.
The construction contract worth more than US $5.2 million at the time, went to Hurcon Inc. and
Industrial Construction Company, which built the steel trusses and deck. The piers were not built
in the navigation channel instead the center span of the bridge consisted of a single 456 foot steel
truss over a 390 foot channel being the longest span of the bridge.

Taking a Look at the Peace Corps
JFK wanted to involve Americans more to spread democracy, peace, development, and freedom,
so he started the peace corps with his brother in law. After a month of debating it among people,
they decided to start it in February of 1961. The Peace Corps was established by executive order
on March 1, 1961. The congress approved the Peace Corps as a federal agency within the State
Department, on September 22, 1961. In 1981, the Peace Corps was made an independent
agency. In the 1960s, the Peace Corps was very popular with college graduates, but in the 70 s
the Vietnam War and Watergate scandal made many Americans faith in their government start
going away. The interest in the Peace Corps began to start going down which cause the
government to cut money. In the 1980s, Ronald Reagan tried to make the Peace Corps bigger
by including more fields that can joint available. If it was not for Kennedy the Peace Corps
would not have started how they did and they would not become what they are today. Kennedy
was very persuasive and captured the American s attention very fast. Before he was elected
president, he was very interested in making the peace corps possible; A peace corps is designed

Why Georgia Should Stop The Death Penalty
Hideous crimes deserve the death penalty, or so the southern state of Georgia says. Consequently,
Georgia holds one of the nation s top records for carrying out capital punishment, with more than
950 implementations in its 250 year history of executions. Meanwhile, national scholars
continuously debate death penalty pros and cons, and the debates ignite both passion and protests.
Georgians opposing the punishment intensely explicate numerous reasons for overturning the law,
including unreasonable cost, increased crime, and inhumanity. Supporters quickly rally behind the
law asserting that Georgia does not demand capital punishmentfor any minor offenses, most non
fatal indictments, and many fatal indictments; Georgia only demands this hideous punishment for
murderers who kill viciously, brutally, violently, and unjustly. Supporters also disagree with the
reasons presented by the opposition because there are solid statistical studies that can refute each of
these arguments. Consequently, Georgia should continue its support of the death penalty because
capital punishment is ethical by Biblical standards, efficient by economical standards, and effective
by statistical standards.
Just turn on the news or read U.S.A Today and it is impossible to miss copious amounts of evidence
pointing to the growth of violent crimes committed in our nation. Does this mean capital
punishment is failing to deter crime, or are there statistics supporting the effectiveness of
executions?

Forensic Psychologist Qualifications
V. Qualifications of workers in this field.
There are multiple conditions in order to endure such a field as criminal justice, gender not

that are needed in pursuing this career are as follows, age, fitness, health, and personality. To meet
the age qualifications for an job application under the FBI, there is a policy requirement of
maintaining an age between 23 and 37 when you are appointed. The only exception however, for
this policy is if you are a returning veteran with experience in the criminal justice field. Another
factor in obtaining a job within this career is having the health and physical qualifications met.

Identity Theory And Social Identity
Identity theory traces its root in the writing of G.H Mead, the American philosopher, sociologist
and psychologist who says that the image or the feeling that a person creates for him or herself
in a particular society is the result of other s vision, which is created daily and is subjected to
change. Richard Jinkens, the sociologist describes that social identity means who we are and
who the others are and on the other hand what the other thinks about themselves and others.
Further, Mead elaborates that a person in a particular society has two identities and which are
self identity and social identity. The self identity is the cognition that a person has about him or
herself and the social identity is the reflection of the accepted values that a person has in the
society. Social Identity theory is enabling a person to answer his question of what I am and who
I am based on his group membership. This is basically a line between oneself and the alien. In
this assignment I will discuss the brief biography of the developers of the social identity theory,
the definition of the theory, aspects of the theory, a case study, the critics and future application.
Henry Tajfel and John Turner developed Social Identity Theory in 1979. Henry Tajfel born on 22
June 1919 in Poland. He was one of the most famous and influential psychologists of the 20th
century. He studied chemistry in France. He later joined the France army and was made a prisoner

thought that the job would be fun, exciting, and I thought it would be interesting. Going in to the

Self employed DJs usually pay for everything themselves. Some DJs become well known among
the community and are asked to make public appearances around the community. Most DJs that
are well know are the charismatic ones who are wild and crazy on air. Which leads me to my
next question I had what kind of personality do you need to be a radio personality and what is
the environment like? DJs are always trying to please the people. If people don t listen to you
the ratings go down. When I asked Mike what kind of personality is needed he responded by
saying, The person needs to be positive and outgoing. Also you need to be very patient with
people who call in because not everyone is going to be nice and happy when they call in. So you
need to be able to hold back rude comments you might want to say to them. (Mike) DJs must be
able to multitask and between watching the clock, choosing music, answering the phones, reading
reports, entertaining guests and the audience. Again everything is about timing. DJs are required
to plan ahead and be able to keep up with everything that is going on. They must be able to play
the next song or commercial on time. It can be difficult to keep up but once you do it for awhile it
gets easier. Working at a radio station can be fun but stressful at the same time. Dust and
temperature control are very important parts of keeping the equipment running and in good
condition. DJs may not always have jobs either, especially

The fact that Lady Macbeth urges Macbeth to commit sacrilege is, without saying, disturbing
because the King (especially at that time) is Gods representative and killing God just to achieve
power is so insane that you could argue that she is demon possessed . Macbeth and the poem
Laboratory are both similar in terms of the unusual language used, Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and
tomorrow , a quote by Macbeth in his final soliloquy, in act five, scene five, before to his
soliloquy Lady Macbeth had committed suicide which was inevitably an act of sin and therefore
the afterlife would be spend in hell for eternity We ld jump the life to come. But in these cases We

aware that they had committed felonies during their current life including sacrilege giving the idea
that Macbeth was aware of his wrongdoings telling us that Macbeth was not psychotically weak but
instead attempted to improvise the situation so at least he had something to live for. This also gives
the audience sympathy for Macbeth because he is able to rationalize his opinions and justifications.

The War On The Home Front
In a very short amount of time, America went a serious of events which had great influence on
the home front. Those two events were WWII and the Cold War. Civil rights, the cultural norms,
and society at large, had changed greatly during a short amount of time due to these events. The
United States was fight a war on two fronts, both at home and overseas. The wars overseas had
great influence and impact on the successes that would come over time on the home front.
Without these wars and times of trials and tribulations, the civil rights movement and society as a

The Decisive Outcome Of The Napoleonic Wars
Thesis Statement:
This paper shall attempt to show the reasons for the need of this campaign and why this campaign
was important to the decisive outcome of the Napoleonic Wars [1787 1815].
Historical Background:
In 1803, the War of the Third Coalition began against France. In this coalition, the powers of the
United Kingdom, Austria, Russia, and Sweden went to war against France to reestablish order on
the old continent of Europe. In the War of the Third Coalition two major battles of the Napoleonic
wars were seen: Austerlitz and Trafalgar both were decisive in their tides of the war efforts. In
the end, Austria would be forced into a surrender, and the Confederation of the Rhine would occur.
This would leave the United Kingdom as one of the few states at war with France for the safety of
Europe. By 1808, Napoleon was marching on many of the old states (again): Austria, Prussia, and
Spain. With the French invasion of Spain and Portugal, the British were forced to send troops to
the Iberian Peninsula. Following a series of defeats and almost the complete loss of Lisbon, the
United Kingdom placed Arthur Wellesley (who would later become known as the Duke of
Wellington) in command of the Iberian Forces for the defense of Portugal, thereby, beginning the
great campaign in Spain, known only as, the Peninsula Campaign. The reason for the historical
significance of the Peninsula Campaign of 1808 to 1814 is thusly this: with growing number of
British troops in the underbelly of

Examples Of Judgement In The Crucible
Judgment in society
In western culture, societies are very quick to judge individuals or invent stories in order to place
blame on someone. More times than none, society is faced with one person s word against another
s, the unfortunate part is that only one word is true. Thus, society is then forced to decide who s
lying and who is not, based on opinions and assumptions that follow their own values and beliefs.
This is exactly what happens to John Proctor and Hester Prynne in The Crucible by Arthur Miller
and The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne. In both works, the characters are faced with cruel
punishments, and isolation due to the harsh judgment made by their society.
In The Crucible, John Proctor is sentenced to be hanged because he was accused of ... Show more

case when society was faced with two stories, but they only believed the one that suited their
values, it went to the extent of witchcraft being more believable than dancing and fooling around in
the forest. In Society vs The Individual In Arthur Miller s The Crucible written by Jean‐Marie
Bonnet, she states The crucible presents us with a small village falling prey to a collective fear
that witchcraft is about, lurking in some of its citizens. (Bonnet, 32). She refers to how the towns
fear of witchcraft leads to the wrongful death of so many citizens. Sadly the town does not
necessarily want to punish those citizens, it is more along of the lines of making a statement
saying they are not afraid. However, in the process of this, they end up judging those that do not

The Standards Of Water Jump
Water Jump. I remember back 20 years ago when the ISO 900x standards were pushed heavily in
Eastern Europe s manufacturing economy, it was like reminiscent of a bank robbery during
daylight. Consulting certification companies were making tons of money and in return were
giving their clients a right to put label called ISO 900x. Around that time I was working as a
mechanical designer in a leading manufacturing factory and one day I witnessed an extremely
interesting conversation between part time 75 year young engineer and the head of the ISO
certification group that was converting our company into ISO 9000 certified. I happened during
informal 15 min break, when out of the blue, the engineer simply confronted the entire
certification process and called that we have been conned. He challenged the certification group
to present a standard that we may need and do not have. On every given example, he was able
quickly to point existing standard and the published reference as in a number of cases he went
back as 60 years to find the needed reference. In the end, he was able to build a strong case.
Eventually, the head of the certification group concluded: You know it, I know it, the rest of

The Role Of Women In EuripidesBacchae
Throughout Euripides Bacchae, there are plot elements, which seem out of place for a tragedy,
such as Pentheus frolicking around in women s clothing. However, these out of place comedic
elements serve as a way to highlight the underlying conflicts in the play. One of these seemingly
out of place plot elements is the comedic way Agave handles the death of her child. On the
surface, her comedic behave or depicts women as foolish and weak, therefore making women
seem inferior to men. However understanding Agave s comedic behavior reveals the underlying
conflict between how women should behave in society versus how they behave in the story.
Therefore, understanding the way Agave handles the death of her son emphasizes the role of
women in the patriarchal Greek society. Understand the underlying meaning of Agave s comical
behavior illustrates the oppression the women face in the patriarchal Greek society. On the
surface, the comedic way Agave handles her son s death presents women as foolish and weak.
Agave is oblivious that with hands alone . . . [she] caught [Pentheus] and tore [him] limb from
limb even though she holds his head in her hands (Bacchae 1209/10). Consistently, Agave
believes that the bloody item she holds in her hand is the head of a lion, rather than the head of
her own beloved child. Agave s obliviousness is a form of dramatic irony, which Euripides uses on
the surface to represent Agave, as well as the other women, as rationally inferior to men. This

The Effects Of Space Travel In The Movie Apollo 13
After watching the movie Apollo 13, all I can take away is irritation, several unanswered
questions, and poorly explained minute details relating to traveling in space. While some details
are easy to understand, such as the effects of gravity on weight and the effects of space travel on
the human body, many instances of scientific references are made under the presumption that the
viewer understands what is being said. Along with the inability to detail the process of achieving
space travel, the details they did include were often inaccurate, for example the display of evident
sexism. While this movie did roughly indulge in the chronicles of previous space missions and the
tension between the United States and Russia in the on going Space Race , there is very little
mention of the sciencebehind the mission, making this more of a poorly represented history movie
than a scientific examination into the world of NASA, the Kennedy Space Center, and the mission
of Apollo 13. Before explaining inconsistencies in the movie s portrayal of the Apollo 13 mission,
it can be said that it had brief shining moments of informative narration. One of these highlights is
the references made to the ongoing fight between Russia and the United States over who will
conquer in technological advancements. The beginning of the movie really detailed why it was
important for the astronauts and scientists involved in the Apollo 13 mission to complete another

Bay Area Crisis
The Bay Area has developed into one of the most rapidly increasing localized economies in the
United States, where prices of everything have increased at a unprecedented rate. Since the
inventions of the competing Apple and Microsoft companies started in the 1970s, technology has
flourished and developed one of the most expensive areas in the world to live in. Because of the
high paying jobs, it has attracted an unprecedented amount of people, skyrocketing the demand of
housing in the area. This would ultimately cause a massive inflation that mainly affected home
prices (and medical care). A debate has ensued due to whether the massive inflation related to
housing is beneficial or detrimental to society as a whole. The rapid increase of demand... Show

There are conditions that set whether it would be good or bad for a person; such as financial
position, current living situation, occupation, and job security. For example, someone who is
tenured and making a seven figure income while living in a mansion in the hills may see the
situation a little differently than someone working minimum wage and trying to avoid home
eviction. The most important part of this is to understand the reasoning as to why some feel one
way on the situation and others see it differently. To consider the situation from an objective
standpoint is important, but also breaking down both sides of it. From one side, you can see the
economic benefits of it, and the other side you can see how people may be struggling to survive.
If it was definitely a crisis, the federal government would be more inclined to get involved, as it is

Pros And Cons Of Eminent Domain
Proponents of eminent domain point to the potential use of eminent domain as a component of
urban renewal projects. They view eminent domain as a tool that can be used as part of urban
renewal to help revitalize the economy of depressed areas by creating new jobs, building
infrastructure, remedying unsafe conditions and housing, and improving the overall economic
well being of an area. For example, the construction of Minute Maid Park (a baseball stadium in
Houston, Texas) brings millions of people every year into downtown Houston, a place that had
previously been a long way from being a lively 24/7 environment...Around the ballpark,
developers have created loft dwellings for young professionals, old buildings have been
transformed into hotels, and a new high rise residential tower is under development (Lewis).
Proponents assert that the societal gains that occur from these projects are a fair tradeoff for
individual s relocation and loss of property. Eminent domainexpert David Lewis points out that
using eminent domain enjoys strong public support when used in projects such as constructing
dams in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When evaluating urban renewal projects, Professor Steven Cord found that By far most of the
housing destroyed was low cost housing, (184). The statistics in Kelo also showed that 56
percent of nonwhites and 38 percent of whites displaced by urban renewal were qualified to
receive public housing due to their low incomes. Further, the destruction of housing forces
individuals to seek relocation housing. Relocation housing is not guaranteed to be readily
available or to be superior to the housing destroyed (Cord 185). Eminent domain has broken up
neighborhoods and forced out longtime residents (Cord 184). Businesses that are relocated often
lose their customer base and often must pay higher rents (Cord 185). Nearly a third of relocated
businesses never reopen at all (Cord

Mental Health Proposal
What health issue is being addressed by this expo?
Mental health has always been identified as one of the main areas for action in the National Health
Priority Areas (National Health and Medical Research Council 2016), and depression is one of the
most prevalent chronic conditions amongst the young Australians (Australian Institute of Health
and Welfare 2017). Depression is a debilitating condition that substantially impairs individuals
ability to function and cope with their daily life due to the experience of negative feelings
(NHMRC 2016). Also, depression and suicidality have a close correlation as eighty percent of
reported suicide incident was due to the burden of depression (World Health Organization 2017),
and suicide is the second leading cause of death in youths in Australia (Reddy 2010). Moreover,
depression can be inherited in a family through either biological or psychological way (Rahman et
al. 2008); hence, youths who have the family with depression history tend to be more vulnerable
and have a higher chance to get depression comparing with children from healthy family (Rice
2010). Therefore, this expo is set up for raising community awareness in the burden of depression
and reducing the growth of emotional and developmental dysfunction in youths and their families
through providing a comprehensive research study in related the health problem and proven
intervention strategies.

• Explain The Impact Of The Green Belt On Edinburgh And...
The purpose of this essay is to discuss the impact of the green belt on Edinburgh and its suburban
areas. The essay will begin by explaining the main definitions involved in the essay question. The
first section will review Edinburgh and Scotland s green belt policies. The second section will
discuss Edinburgh s growing populationand the need for property within the area. The third section
will focus on the growing business sector of the capital city. And the last section will talk about
Edinburgh s expanding green belt and recent developments.
Edinburgh; a city famous for its striking architecture and backdrop shaped by geology, was once a
small city consisting of no more than a narrow street that linked Holyrood palace with Edinburgh
castle. To this day it has become the capital of Scotland, with an increasingly large population

Edinburgh is a city of size, high demand and growth and its green belt could be hindering its
ability to grow and reach its full economic potential. The Scottish government suggests that the
purpose of the green belt is to, direct growth to the most appropriate locations and support
regeneration to protect and give access to open space within and around towns and cities.
However, as Edinburgh remains the UK s largest financial centre outside of London and has an
increasingly large population, the demand for property within the city is high. Edinburgh s
shortage of property has driven up prices to unaffordable levels. To tackle this issue, the city should
be regenerating brownfield sites to produce affordable property that could house the growing
population. However, if Edinburgh s economic growth continues, and planning permission is
granted, it looks likely that the green belt will be expanding, less emphasis will be put on local
communities and Edinburgh s surrounding countryside could disappear for

Positive and Negative Impacts of the Sixties Counterculture
? Positivity ?
Hippies represent the ideological, naive nature that children possess. They feel that with a little love
and conectedness, peace and equality will abound. It is with this assumption that so many activists
and reformers, inspired by the transformation that hippies cultivated, have found the will to persist
in revolutionizing social and political policy. Their alternative lifestyles and radical beleifs were the
shocking blow that American culture segregation, McCarthyism, unjust wars, censorship needed to
prove that some Americans still had the common sense to care for one another. The young people

Environmentalists host one of America s largest political lobbies. Groups such as Greenpeace protest

Political Awareness and Student Rebellion
Recently Ralph Nader spoke to an enthusiastic and supportive audience at Columbia College. Nader
spoke about the very same issues he lectured about in 1968 corporate rule, environmental
protections, military industrial complex and unjust wars, equality and access to education, women s
rights. It was an increased awareness that overtook the young people of the sixties counterculture
movement. This awareness led to a social outcry against injustices in politics.
The hippies, hand in hand with college students, helped stop an unjust, costly, and deathly war in
Vietnam. The hippies had the courage to speak out for the 67% of Americans that were opposed
to the war. An anti war movement not unlike the Vietnam protests has progressed over the past
two years against the War in Iraq. March 20, 2003 was a national day of protest with over 25

The Effects Of Global Warming On Human Activity
Debates about global warming have received much attention in the last few years. Opponents may
say global warming is a natural cause however, the reality is global warming is occurring due to
human activity. Global warming is best defined as a term used to describe a gradual increase in the
average temperature of the Earth s atmosphere and its oceans, a change that is believed to be
permanently changing the Earth s climate. Global warmingdoes not only increase temperature it is
also capable of decreasing temperature in Earth s climate. Global warming is occurring due to
human activity because of industrial purposes, lack of education, nuclear power waste and testing,
automobile pollution and greenhouse gases. Increase in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ever since the industrial revolution earth s atmosphere has begun to heat up. The Industrial
Revolution was the transition to new manufacturing processes in the period from about 1760 to
sometime between 1820 and 1840. During that time period burning coal was used to power
machines and factories. Coal is considered a fossil fuel, it is unreplaceable. Also burning coal is
harmful for the environment. Although the use of coal has decreased, it is still in places and its
harming the environment. Greenhouse gases harm the environment dramatically. Green house gas
is best known as any gaseous compound in the atmosphere that is capable of absorbing infrared
radiation, thereby trapping and holding heat in the atmosphere (A Blanket Around the Earth, 1). By
increasing the heat in the atmosphere, greenhouse gases are responsible for the greenhouse effect,
which ultimately leads to global warming. Most climate scientists agree the main cause of the
current global warming trend is human expansion of the greenhouse effect (A Blanket Around the
Earth, 1). So its obvious greenhouse gases which are a caused by human activity are a major
contribution to global warming. Long lived gases that remain semi permanently in the atmosphere
and do not respond physically or chemically to changes in temperature and described as forcing
climate change (A Blanket Around the Earth, 1). This quote shows how greenhouse gases cause

Food Marketing Targeting Children And Their Own...
For the past thirty years, marketing companies and other commercial entities have used lawsuits to
win more expansive First Amendment protections for commercial speech including the regulation
of advertising to children. Advancements in digital technology have allowed marketers to find
more direct and personalized gateways to reach young audiences through advertising, side stepping
the authority of adults and taking advantage of children s vulnerability. While food corporations
might argue that it is ultimately the targeted audience who assesses a product and therefore no
regulation should be permitted, the government needs to regulate how far commercial speech can

The First Amendment protects commercial speech which includes most advertising and marketing
of products and services, as well as the labeling that accompanies the products. For the past thirty
years, a clear trend has been established when protecting commercial speech. In the 1980 Central
Hudson Gas and Electric Corp. v. Public Service Commission case, The Supreme Court laid out a
four part analysis to determine whether restrictions on commercial speech violate the first
amendment. The restrictions must concern legal, honest expression and directly advance a
substantial governmental interest without being more extensive than necessary. This case gave
commercial speech more latitude and protection and is still used today as a precedent for other
court cases. In this way, food companies can advertise to younger children using deceptive methods
to draw out certain responses towards them. Unaware they are being targeted, children become
exposed to non nutritious advertisements and follow the same eating habits promoted on television
and other sources of media. Several agencies have been established to protect and defend
commercial speech. Associations such as the American Association of Advertising Agencies state
their goals are to promote competition and protect consumers in order to help form an efficient
marketplace where producers can sell their products. In this way, they argue, they can prevent
consumers from any harm and

Helen And Dinah In The Iliad Essay
The Influential Roles of Helen and Dinah in the Iliad and the Book of Genesis
Lauren Collins
Professor Whidden
Prompt #2
22 September 2017 In the book of Genesis and in Homer s Iliad, women unintentionally instigate
events with profound effects. There are many parallels and distinctions between Dinah s and Helen
s roles, losses, and power, which illiminate the underlying theme of women wielding influence in
patriarchal societies. The characters of Dinah and Helen, in Genesis and the Iliad, respectively, show
how one mere woman can create a ripple and cause drastic events to transpire.
Dinah s small role in her environment reveals how she is used and seen as a possession of men.
Genesis introduces Dinah as the daughter of Leah, whom she had borne to Jacob (Gen 34:1), and
people call her Dinah daughter of Jacob (Gen 34:3). Dinah cannot stand alone in her civilization
and depends upon her father; men define Dinah. She also does not receive any recognition as
independent in her society. Rather, she functions as an object of her father Jacob. Dinah s... Show

Dinah does not play a direct role in her community, yet when her brothers learn about her rape
they were indignant and very angry (Gen 34:7). They then deceitfully (Gen 34:13) created and

34:13 30). The brothers avenged Dinah because of their immense love and admiration for her.
Even as a victim of rape and a possession of Jacob, Dinah has unknown power and power. The
love and sympathy her brothers have for Dinah instigates the brothers actions and results in the
deaths of many Shechemite males (Whidden Disc, 9/13/17). Through this unbeknownst power,
many people die and Dinah s male companions are provoked to take action on behalf of her. Dinah

Mexico is located in North America. It is a country full of rich traditions and cultures. The people
are friendly and laid back. They are very professional but are more relaxed when it comes to
certain things. They do not live to work but work to live. Businesses run the normal hours that one
associates businesses with, with the exception that they are generally closed an hour for lunch.
Body language is also somewhat different than what Americans are used to. The normal personal
space that one is used to is not common in Mexico. In doing business with a Mexican company
you will want to take the time to develop a relationship with them. All in all the process to do
business with a Mexican company will be well worth it.
Doing Business in Mexico
In the 16th century, Mexico was conquered and colonized by Spain ( The World Factbook , n.d.).
Mexico did not receive its independence until the 19th century ( The World Factbook , n.d.).
Mexico is located in North America and borders both the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico
between the United States and Belize. It also borders the North Pacific Ocean, between the United
States and Guatemala. Its climate ranges from tropical to desert and its terrain has low coastal

The Numbers And Counting System In Ancient Egypt
Numbers and counting systems are used daily by everyone. Numerous civilizations throughout
history like Egypt, Babylonian, Maya and Africa developed a unique number system. They were
commonly used to communicate numbers in an everyday life. Since then counting has changed. A
few of the earlier systems had principles that survived and helped in some way, shape or form to
create our current Hindu Arabic numbering system. It has become widespread. Back in 3000 B.C,
ancient Egypt was using the numbersystem to calculate areas of land, distribute money, and much
more. The Egyptian counting system consisted of hieroglyphs and pictorial signs. The graphic
numbers can be of a person, animal, or plant. The hieroglyphic numbers were a written form of
the number system. It used a decimal base approach. For all the powers of ten, there was a unique
symbol. For example, the number ten was represented as a upside down U , for the number a
hundred thousand it was tadpole, for a million it was represented by a man kneeling with his arms
raised. When reading or writing the number, it is written from right to left. It was written on
temples, vases, and stone monuments. The Egyptians used hieroglyphic numbers to advance in
architectural achievements. Math was used to make historical creations like tombs and pyramids.
Greenwald and Thomley agree that the ancient Egyptians were also aware of fractions, which were
primarily written as unit fractions of the form 1вЃ„n, such as 1вЃ„2or 1вЃ„4...

A Tale Of Bram Stoker s Dracula
Vampires weren t always the socially in tune creatures that they are now. The whole legend
started from Bram stoker s Dracula . Stoker had created a fictional character based on Vlad the
Impaler or Vlad III. Who for several reasons was a perfect person to pick he was feared by many,
was ruthless, killed his own, and got rid of all the sick and poor... burning them alive. ELI
NIXON stated that Historians put the deaths at the hands of Dracula at somewhere between
40,000 and 100,000 . And finally Vlad may not have sucked blood out of his victims necks, but
he would invite his victims for a feast and immediately after. They would be impaled at the
dinner table. Vlad calmly finishing his meal while dipping his bread in buckets of blood drained
from the people he killed. For these and many other reasons Vlad inspired Stoker to create
Dracula. A soulless monster who possesses an evil soul and feeds on blood. Most recently the
popular Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer, has changed how vampires are viewed drastically.
Instead of being horrific monsters there were turned into a teenage girl s twisted fantasy. In Meyer
s book the vampires sparkle under direct sunlight. They ****ing sparkle. For what reasons did
these changes occur? The story of the vampirewas started from Dracula, how did it end up with
Edward the sparkling vampire? Lets start from the first vampire movie Nosferatu directed by F. W.

automobile industry is in an era of instability and change. Ford Motor Company has been
traditionally considered one of the Big Three in the auto industry, but they are not adapting as well
as hoped to the changing industry, and will have to strategize to survive in a struggling industry.
There are many different risk factors for Ford and its competitors. In this paper we will look at
two competitors for Ford that are also considered to be members of the Big Three and
coincidently, are not adapting to changes in the auto industry as quickly as other competitors. These
other companies are General Motors (GM) and Daimler Chrysler. We will... Show more content on

In the category of other economic factors, issues such as a contraction within the housing industry,
CO2 emission standards, crowded market place for new cars and trucks, more efficient production
by foreign companies (Toyota s Total Production System which is a just in time production that
other companies have attempted to emulate with little success) and a downward trend in buying are
all risk factors that the entire industry needs to take into consideration.
The first video watched on Hoovers.com is a video with Ford s CEO Alan Mulally, the first of two.
The CEO was at an auto show, introducing a new cross over vehicle. Risks that are alluded to in
this interview are centered on the large truck and SUV markets versus the smaller vehicles and
cross over vehicles that are being produced. A major problem Ford had seen in the past was that
consumers and industry analysis had not seen them as moving forward into the future, and
matching consumers wants and demands as well as some of the foreign manufacturers.
The second Ford video with CEO Alan Mulally shows the outcome of Ford s realization that they
need to concentrate on other markets and producing new vehicles. For the first time in two years,
they are in the black for the current quarter (at the time of this video). However, when asked if the
trend will continue, the CEO acknowledges that because of having to reduce production during the
3rd quarter (due to a lower buying trend) that it is a

  • 2. Strategic Management at Brewery Industries Global forces and the European brewing industry This case is centred on the European brewing industry and examines how the increasingly competitive pressure of operating within global markets is causing consolidation through acquisitions, alliances and closures within the industry. This has resulted in the growth of the brewers reliance upon super brands. In the first decade of the twenty first century, European brewers faced a surprising paradox. The traditional centre of the beer industry worldwide, and still the largest regional market, Europe, was turning off beer. Beer consumption was falling in the largest markets of Germany and the United Kingdom, while burgeoning in emerging markets around the world. China, with 7 ... • 3. Emotion Regulation in Infants Essay Emotion regulation involves intrinsic and extrinsic processing of monitoring and modifying emotional reactions in both positive or negative situations (Martins, 2012). In order for individuals to have the ability to regulate emotions, they must beware of their emotions. Although infants are unaware and lack the ability to regulate their emotions, it then becomes the role of a primary carer to nurture the infant, thus acting as a model for regulating emotions. Evidently, infants grow to reflect the ways in which their carers control and modify their emotions as well as social boundaries. Furthermore, emotionregulationis considered an important aspect of an individuals life as it can moderate emotions and keep them in a manageable range... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What is emotion regulation in infants 0 4? The regulation of emotions within adults is considerably more complex than within an infant. However, this does not mean that infants do not share the same feelings as adults do. Infant emotion regulation is evidently derived from their primary carers. Empirical research supports idea as stated by Diener (et al, 2002) whereby the study conducted involved infants completing a strange situations procedure, this explored the connection between mother infant relationship and the behavioural strategies used by infants for emotion regulation. Therefore, behavioural strategies used by infants including self soothing, withdrawal and self distraction with objects is when it is clear that infants have the ability to control and monitor their emotions (Martins, 2012; Diener et al., 2002). These strategies are supported through various studies conducted by Martins (2012) as they explore infants who are able to cope with their emotions obtain certain strategies which contribute to their ability to regulate their behaviour for example using distractions. Evidently, this shows the development of infant emotion regulation skills (Diener et al, 2002). Moreover, infants experience a range of emotions in numerous frustrating situations, including some as simple as waiting to be fed or sitting in a car seat waiting to go out. It is from this that infants become more aware of their emotions and begin to find ways of coping ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. A View From A Bridge Following the Second World War in 1945, America emerged from the conflict as a prestigious superpower and saw the 1950s begin as an era of prosperity and wealth. However, the beginnings of the Cold War saw increased tension between the USA and the USSR and the capitalist and communist ideologies. These clashes along with the rise of nuclear power contributed to a tense and fearful atmosphere, giving rise to a period of McCarthyism. This saw communist witch hunts and people accused and prosecuted for sympathising with the left political economic model. Author Arthur Miller was one of such victims; in 1956 he was trialled and fined for refusing to give the names of communist sympathisers before the House Un American Activities Committee.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Immigration remains a popular political but also ethical topic. For one, we like to consider ourselves progressive and moving towards a more multicultural world, yet we continue to cherry pick immigrants with the right qualifications and skills and there is still talk of foreign born people taking Australian jobs and being detrimental to the economy. The Syrian refugee crisis exposes further moral and ethical issues linking to the play as even though Australia has granted 12,000 humanitarian places since March 2017, we have done little to help the 5.1 million refugees escaping the civil war and much controversy and division remains over the topic. The structure of A View From the Bridge is linear in showing a progression of time. The exposition introduces the still relevant topics of cross cultural conflicts, justice and the law as well as class through the construction of setting through staging, dialogue and characterisation. Class is introduced through the setting, the Italian American neighbourhood of Red Hook, in a worker s flat, clean, sparse and homely which conveys a working class household. It is also communicated through the characterisation of Eddie achieved through dialogue and costume. His dialogue is quite rough and casual, perhaps signifying lower levels of education, for example Where you goin ? and Ain t . Eddie is then juxtaposed with the character of ... It will involve relevant theories to support my following reflective essay, including research on document design and group dynamics. The rationale of our Manaakitanga newsletter is for all members across the twenty one branches of Hospitality New Zealand, informing them about new topics, and sharing the most recent and latest news within Hospitality NZ (New Zealand) for the employees to read. Manaakitanga is an internal newsletter for employees, sharing the changes, achievements, the news and events that have a broader appeal, keeping the interest alive for the readers (Kent, 2011). First of all the content of Manaakitanga involves an interview, Early morning starts on a winning streak , secondly an article on What is coming up in the summer months , thirdly a spotlight story on one of Christchurch s most popular restaurants, and last of all a story on New Zealand s drinking culture and a calendar of events highlighting important up coming courses and events for employees to attend to. The interview featured on page four of Manaakitanga is significant to Hospitality NZ because as we know the Rugby World Cup is occurring at the moment and The Sale and Supply of Alcohol Amendment Act 2015 are allowing on license and club license holders to open outside of their normal opening hours to screen live Rugby World Cup games. • 6. The Nuclear Bomb Of Hiroshima And Nagasaki Who is good and who is Evil? Many of us go through life thinking that whatever we do must be what is good, never questioning authority and blindly following a government that is thought to be incapable of doing evil. After World War II, many Americans felt a sense of nationalism. They were proud of the fact that their military destroyed Nazi Germany and Imperialist Japan. However this euphoric patriotism can often blind the holder. In August of 1945, the United States Military dropped two nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. There were noble reasons for dropping the bombs, but surely destroying two entire cities questions the integrity of the United States. So again I ask, who is good and who is evil? After the events of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the United States was eager to learn more about the impacts of nuclear devices on the environment. The United States set up several nuclear bomb tests on the Marshall Islandsin which they properly planned for. However one test, code named Operation Castle, went horribly wrong. Scientists involved in the test claim they expected an explosive yield of four to six megatons, but instead a yield of fifteen resulted. For reference, this is one thousand times greater than the yields of both the Hiroshima and the Nagasaki nuclear bombs (Huard). Many people believe this was merely a lapse in judgement, however I believe there is evidence that the United States government intentionally created a disaster in order to study the effects of ... • 7. Polio ( Poliomyelitis ) Is A Contagious Illness Caused By... Polio (Poliomyelitis) is a very contagious illness caused by the poliovirus. The poliovirus affects the central nervous system, and is known and feared for causing paralysis (CDC, 2015). The virus is contracted orally (through the mouth), from fecal matter (CDC, 2015): It first goes to the throat and digestive system (CDC, 2015). Next it enters the lymphatic system, the bloodstream and finally the Central Nervous System (CNS), were it can cause paralysis due to damage/destruction of the motor neurons (CDC, 2015). Only people carry the poliovirus, and it only affects humans (CDC, 2015) No cure, only prevention (CDC, 2015). Once someone has been in contact with the virus, it can take anywhere from 3 to 35 days to notice symptoms (NYSDOH, 2014). Most people who contract polio do not get sick (they don t show symptoms), but they can still pass the virus through stool and spread it to other individuals (NYSDOH, 2014). Of the individuals who contract polio, only 4 5% get the following symptoms: headaches, fever, nausea, vomiting, and muscle weakness (NYSDOH, 2014). 1 2% of people with polio develop severe muscle pain and stiffness in the neck and back (NYSDOH, 2014). Paralysis caused by polio is very rare, of the total amount of individuals who contract the virus, less than 1% become paralyzed (NYSDOH, 2014). Polio was not addressed as a serious issue in Nigeria until the mid 1900 s (Renne, 2010). When Europeans (white people) in Nigeria began contracting the virus, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is said that Huntington s disease was first introduced to Australia by a Somerset woman who arrived in Tasmania aboard the Arab ship in 1842. She had thirteen children; eight with her first husband and five with her second. Five of the six females and four of the seven males inherited the disease. Causes of the Disorder This disease is genetically inherited and is a dominant characteristic, therefore unfortunately the offspring of a victim has 50% chance of inheriting the disease. The DNA contains four types base: A (adenine) and T (thymine), G (guanine) and C (cytosine). These four letters make up the genetic alphabet and they spell out the commands for every single cell and organ of the body and also determine all the characteristics of the person. In 1993 it was discovered that a segment of DNA on the arm of chromosome 4 is linked to the HD gene. They found that at one end of the HD gene, the combination CAG is repeated too many times. In people without HD this CAG is repeated 5 to 35 times. In people who are affected by HD, CAG is repeated over and over again between 36 and 121 times. The CAG combination codes for a protein called huntingtin. Why the increase number of CAG causes HD is still unknown. It is thought that too much of the HD protein makes them obtain some new, abnormal property. This is true in two ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The introduction of My Antonia states that the narrator and Jim were to write down all they knew of her in order to maybe get a picture of her. I believe this strong admiration is because of the characteristics that are shown by Antonia throughout the story. She is a hardworking girl that belongs to a Bohemian family who has started a farm in Nebraska. Not only is she hard working but throughout the story she shows characteristics of being strong both inside and out. The Mexican Army of the North engaged the United States Army of Occupation on a prairie near current day Brownsville, Texas. In November of 1845, President Polk named Senator James Slidell of Louisiana as the new American minster to Mexico (Haecker, 1994), and was sent to secretly negotiate with Mexican President Jose Joaquin de Herrera. However, he was overthrown by General Mariano Parades y Arrillaga, Commander of the Army of the North, who denied negotiation with the Americans and demanded the return of the disputed area of Texas. During this time, Polk ordered General Zachary Taylor, who was preemptively stationed at Corpus Christi, to move his unit down to Port Isabel at the mouth of the Rio Grande and Gulf of Mexico. This only increased tensions between the two nations, which came to a height with the construction of the U.S. Fort Texas on the north bank of the Rio Grande, opposite the Mexican town of Matamoros, a natural choke point (Carney, 2005). Up to the War, the American and Mexican armies were about as much the same as they were different. This should be just as true for sexual privacy as it is for financial and medical privacy, and a federal bill recognizing this issue is long overdue. Despite the current outdated laws that fail to protect women online, more companies have started to be much more diligent and organizations such as, Twitter, and Reddit have deemed it necessary to ban revenge porn on their sites, making the internet a safer place for women, which is a major progression towards the advancement of the internet in general (Dixit). Evolution Of Host Parasite Relationships Betsy Gladden Evolution Case Study #1 Dr. Amanda Duffus The Evolution of Host Parasite Relationships Since Darwin s dangerous idea in the nineteenth century, the causes and significances of evolution have been investigated unceasingly. One evident example of evolution is between parasite and host relationships, in which host and parasite partners maximize their own fitness, by evolving to reduce the fitness of the other. Parasites are hypothesized to evolve and cause hosts to evolve, as well as promoting sexual recombination. There are two major hypotheses of evolution pertaining to host parasite relationships: the Red Queen hypothesis and the Red King model. The Red Queen hypothesis claims that there is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Scientist Van Valen used this as a metaphor for the evolutionary race saying that species keep running (evolving) to stay in the same place, but if they stop, they become extinct. This theory has been consistently added to and built upon by G. Bell in 1982, who applied it to host and parasite relationships, showing how evolution affects genotype frequencies and that changes come from maintaining sexual reproduction. (Lively, 2010) The Red Queen hypothesis demonstrates how species rely on competition for initiating evolution, and how there is a domino effect of change causing change. (Barnett and Hansen, 1996) In studies done by Barnett and Hansen (1996) using an organizational approach, evidence was found for Red Queen evolution in that organizations exhibited less failure if there was more competition. The research used banks as a model, and the results showed that in places only one existed, there was an advantage of a monopoly, but did not have any experience when exposed to competition. (Barnett and Hansen, 1996) The Red Queen hypothesis also shows that selection favors hosts that have rare resistance alleles. There also is research that shows generation time affects selection for sex, in that the longer it takes to reproduce, the more opportunity there is for evolution. The Red Queen hypothesis suggests that when in regard to parasite and host relationships, when parasites are low in number, the costs of sex outweigh the benefits and ... In January 1995 14 wolves were captured in Canada to be reintroduced in Yellowstone changing the biodiversity. The biological traits change as human s interfere with wildlife, it has affected the population and the reproduction of species (Mary A. Orland, 2014). Modern techniques like cloning and restriction enzymes allow genetic material to be transferred from one organism to another to exchange genetic material. This then puts a permanent change in an organism s gene making it an artificial species like the Belgian Blue, Featherless chickens and the Enviropig. Although making it cheaper and easier to produce such as making it simple selecting traits and crops utilizing less applications to reproduce, GMO s allow farmers to receive more product from the organism allowing them to make more money. Immaterial Qualities In Shakespeare s Richard III Savi Rathi Professor Cody Age of Eliz I and Shakespeare 150E, Section 2 February 7th, 2018 Immaterial Qualities in Richard III In modern day society, many individuals do not believe that supernatural or immaterial qualities could play such a tremendous role in everyday life. However, in early British times, the citizens considered it normal to see supernatural aspects holding significant importance. Although William Shakespeare was not entirely historically accurate when crafting his play Richard III, he attempted to maintain the root structure of this period. Shakespeare uses many immaterial qualities including curses, dreams, ghosts, and time to not only foreshadow a myriad of critical events but also to emphasize Richard s avarice. One of the most salient supernatural aspects used throughout Richard III was the idea of curses and prophecies. Shakespeare used expletives throughout Richard III not only to foreshadow the impending doom of characters but also to help the reader follow the complicated plot line. Queen Margaret cast one of the most significant curses from the play declaring, Cancel his bond of life dear God, I plead. That I may live and to say, The dog is dead (Shakespeare 270). Meanwhile, national scholars continuously debate death penalty pros and cons, and the debates ignite both passion and protests. Georgians opposing the punishment intensely explicate numerous reasons for overturning the law, including unreasonable cost, increased crime, and inhumanity. Supporters quickly rally behind the law asserting that Georgia does not demand capital punishmentfor any minor offenses, most non fatal indictments, and many fatal indictments; Georgia only demands this hideous punishment for murderers who kill viciously, brutally, violently, and unjustly. Supporters also disagree with the reasons presented by the opposition because there are solid statistical studies that can refute each of these arguments. Consequently, Georgia should continue its support of the death penalty because capital punishment is ethical by Biblical standards, efficient by economical standards, and effective by statistical standards. Identity Theory And Social Identity Identity theory traces its root in the writing of G.H Mead, the American philosopher, sociologist and psychologist who says that the image or the feeling that a person creates for him or herself in a particular society is the result of other s vision, which is created daily and is subjected to change. Richard Jinkens, the sociologist describes that social identity means who we are and who the others are and on the other hand what the other thinks about themselves and others. Further, Mead elaborates that a person in a particular society has two identities and which are self identity and social identity. The self identity is the cognition that a person has about him or herself and the social identity is the reflection of the accepted values that a person has in the society. The United States was fight a war on two fronts, both at home and overseas. The wars overseas had great influence and impact on the successes that would come over time on the home front. • 34. The Decisive Outcome Of The Napoleonic Wars Thesis Statement: This paper shall attempt to show the reasons for the need of this campaign and why this campaign was important to the decisive outcome of the Napoleonic Wars [1787 1815]. Historical Background: In 1803, the War of the Third Coalition began against France. In this coalition, the powers of the United Kingdom, Austria, Russia, and Sweden went to war against France to reestablish order on the old continent of Europe. In the War of the Third Coalition two major battles of the Napoleonic wars were seen: Austerlitz and Trafalgar both were decisive in their tides of the war efforts. In the end, Austria would be forced into a surrender, and the Confederation of the Rhine would occur. This would leave the United Kingdom as one of the few states at war with France for the safety of Europe. By 1808, Napoleon was marching on many of the old states (again): Austria, Prussia, and Spain. With the French invasion of Spain and Portugal, the British were forced to send troops to the Iberian Peninsula. Following a series of defeats and almost the complete loss of Lisbon, the United Kingdom placed Arthur Wellesley (who would later become known as the Duke of Wellington) in command of the Iberian Forces for the defense of Portugal, thereby, beginning the great campaign in Spain, known only as, the Peninsula Campaign. The reason for the historical significance of the Peninsula Campaign of 1808 to 1814 is thusly this: with growing number of British troops in the underbelly of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Examples Of Judgement In The Crucible Judgment in society In western culture, societies are very quick to judge individuals or invent stories in order to place blame on someone. More times than none, society is faced with one person s word against another s, the unfortunate part is that only one word is true. Thus, society is then forced to decide who s lying and who is not, based on opinions and assumptions that follow their own values and beliefs. This is exactly what happens to John Proctor and Hester Prynne in The Crucible by Arthur Miller and The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne. In both works, the characters are faced with cruel punishments, and isolation due to the harsh judgment made by their society. In this case when society was faced with two stories, but they only believed the one that suited their values, it went to the extent of witchcraft being more believable than dancing and fooling around in the forest. In Society vs The Individual In Arthur Miller s The Crucible written by Jean‐Marie Bonnet, she states The crucible presents us with a small village falling prey to a collective fear that witchcraft is about, lurking in some of its citizens. (Bonnet, 32). She refers to how the towns fear of witchcraft leads to the wrongful death of so many citizens. Consulting certification companies were making tons of money and in return were giving their clients a right to put label called ISO 900x. Around that time I was working as a mechanical designer in a leading manufacturing factory and one day I witnessed an extremely interesting conversation between part time 75 year young engineer and the head of the ISO certification group that was converting our company into ISO 9000 certified. I happened during informal 15 min break, when out of the blue, the engineer simply confronted the entire certification process and called that we have been conned. However, these out of place comedic elements serve as a way to highlight the underlying conflicts in the play. One of these seemingly out of place plot elements is the comedic way Agave handles the death of her child. On the surface, her comedic behave or depicts women as foolish and weak, therefore making women seem inferior to men. However understanding Agave s comedic behavior reveals the underlying conflict between how women should behave in society versus how they behave in the story. Therefore, understanding the way Agave handles the death of her son emphasizes the role of women in the patriarchal Greek society. Understand the underlying meaning of Agave s comical behavior illustrates the oppression the women face in the patriarchal Greek society. On the surface, the comedic way Agave handles her son s death presents women as foolish and weak. Agave is oblivious that with hands alone . . . Consistently, Agave believes that the bloody item she holds in her hand is the head of a lion, rather than the head of her own beloved child. The Effects Of Space Travel In The Movie Apollo 13 After watching the movie Apollo 13, all I can take away is irritation, several unanswered questions, and poorly explained minute details relating to traveling in space. While some details are easy to understand, such as the effects of gravity on weight and the effects of space travel on the human body, many instances of scientific references are made under the presumption that the viewer understands what is being said. Along with the inability to detail the process of achieving space travel, the details they did include were often inaccurate, for example the display of evident sexism. While this movie did roughly indulge in the chronicles of previous space missions and the tension between the United States and Russia in the on going Space Race , there is very little mention of the sciencebehind the mission, making this more of a poorly represented history movie than a scientific examination into the world of NASA, the Kennedy Space Center, and the mission of Apollo 13. Before explaining inconsistencies in the movie s portrayal of the Apollo 13 mission, it can be said that it had brief shining moments of informative narration. One of these highlights is the references made to the ongoing fight between Russia and the United States over who will conquer in technological advancements.
