2. Gertrude And Ophelia And Hamlet Character Analysis
Imagine being told that you are loved, and then are treated like you are worth nothing. This is a
reality for the women in Hamlet written by William Shakespeare; Gertrude and Ophelia. Women in
the 1600s were seen as objects with no value and were only there for the convenience of the male
in their life. Gertrudeand Ophelia are the only two female characters in the play, and there are many
males in the play that treat them with disrespect. Hamletis the big offender of these two women in
the play. The relationship between Ophelia and Hamlet is confusing because it goes back and
forth, where Hamlet loves Ophelia, to where he never loved her, disrespecting her beyond
belief. Gertrude, Hamlet s mother, is married to Claudius, King Hamlet s brother, and this
frustrates Hamlet. Hamlet lashes out at Gertrude for this marriage, being mistreated by her own
son. In Hamlet, both main characters are portrayed as objects with little to no significance and
are treated with no respect by their male counterparts. Ophelia, Hamlet s lustful partner, is shown
the most disrespect throughout the play. Ophelia s whole life is centered around her father, and
the play allows Ophelia no mind of her own; instead it has her minding her father s precepts
(Johnson 111). This is supported by the text when she says, I do not know, my lord, what I
should think (1.3.113). She just tries to please her father. Ophelia admits to Polonius that she has
a relationship with Hamlet and he exclaims, In few, Ophelia,/ Do not believe his vows (1.3.135
136). He wants her to have nothing to do with Hamlet and she simply obeys. One things is clear to
her auditors, however: whatever she is saying, it relates to her father (Johnson 112). This is one of
many mistreatments she gets by men in the play. Hamlet and Ophelia are having a lustful
relationship where the lovebetween them is not mutual, where Ophelia loves him, but Hamlet
does not reciprocate. In the beginning of the play, Ophelia receives a letter from Hamlet which
says, Doubt thou the stars are fire,/ Doubt that the sun doth move,/ Doubt truth to be a liar,/ But
never doubt I love./ O dear Ophelia, I am ill at these numbers. I have not /art to reckon my groans,
but that I love

3. Tax Treatment of Gambling Loss as in Tschetschot Case
Abstract
In Tschetschot v. Commissioner, 93 TCM 914 (2007), the tax court ruled that taxpayer s losses
from participating in tournament poker were limited to the amount of her winnings. The court held
that tournament poker is, despite its differences from other types of poker, essentially a wagering
activity and therefore should not be treated differently from other forms of gambling for tax
purposes. The court also rejected the taxpayer s equal protection argument to treat tournament poker
as sports, on the basis of the policy decisions of the congress to treat business based on wagering
activities differently.

Commissioner
The facts in Tschetschot were quite simple, and there was not any dispute regarding them. It is
nevertheless helpful to single out the facts that are more relevant to the issue on hand, which would
help in following the court s reasoning in reaching its holdings.
Mrs. Tschetschot works as a database project manager, and was also a professional tournament
poker player in 2000. She then claimed a net loss from her tournament poker activity as business
losses on her Schedule C. The commissioner determined that this deduction related to the
tournament poker should be subject to the limitation provided in Code В§165(d) as an itemized
deduction, to the extent of the Mrs. Tschetschot s winnings. Based on that, the commissioner
assessed a deficiency of income tax as well as an accuracy related penalty under Code В§6662(a).
The tax court ruled in favor of the commissioner, rejecting the petitioner s argument that tournament
poker, unlike other types of poker, is not a wagering activity. The court reached its decision by first
defining the term wagering using the term s plain, obvious, and rational meaning. Therefore, the
court adopted the dictionary meaning of to wager, which is defined as to bet or the act of betting.
Based on this, the court concluded that while there are differences between tournament poker and
other types of poker, none rise to the level of meaningful, substantive differences that would warrant
different tax treatment under the

children with learning disabilities as it activates the brain so extensively helping the kid to focus.
Music therapy has been found to help the victims of brain trauma and children with ADHD. For

It makes the affected children restless and almost continuously active. The research as to what
causes ADHD is still ongoing with scientist suggesting some factors such as genes, exposure to
environmental toxins for example increased level of lead at an early age, and brain injuries. The
symptoms associated with this condition include inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. It is
a condition that has affected the learning and concentration of many children in school since it is
characterized by students making careless mistakes in school work, problems in sustaining
attention and the difficulty to follow instructions given (National Institutes of Health, 2016).
These are some of the reason that compelled me to choose the topic and focus on music as
therapy for children with ADHD. One of that main reasons why I took interest in this topic was
finding out one of my nephews was diagnosed with ADHD. Having a first had look at ADHD is
difficult, teaching in a classroom of eight children who were diagnosed with ADHD was already

Careless to the thought of something bad happening, Obiareus stared out his window and enjoyed
himself as he hovered thousands of feet in the air. It s beautiful, isn t it? the pilot exclaimed, nearly
giving the young boy a heart attack. Yes. Yes it is. Obiareus said in response. Not long after, he
began to notice some dark clouds lingering in the air. He didn t think much of them. In fact, he
more or less disregarded them and continued to stare out at the world beneath him. But as the
pilot began to direct them into the clouds, he knew that something bad was in the near future. He
told Obiareus to buckle up. We re about to go for the ride of our lives son! He told him.
Obiareus looked terrified. The pilot directed them into the storm and it seemed as if they were
going to be okay until one very large gust of wind hit them and the planes left wing was torn
apart. The plane started to go down and the pilot tried to direct the falling piece of what now
looked like a torn apart sheet of metal to a nearby island that they could see in the distance. The
island was called Grace Bay Island. At the worst time possible, the plane swayed and crashed
full force into the ground. Obiareus was stunned and in shock, but he quickly came to his senses
and was determined to get to his father. He unbuckled his seatbelt and crawled out of the seat.
The boy knew the pilot was still in the plane and made his way to the cabin of it to see if the pilot
was injured. When he reached the door to the cabin he peeked in. The man didn t seem to be
breathing. Obiareus was scared and left in a hurry. He opened the door to the plane with a quiet

8. Social Pedagogy Essay
Social pedagogy
As an idea social pedagogy first started being used around the middle of the nineteenth century in
Germany as a way of describing alternatives to the dominant models of schooling. However, by the
second half of the twentieth century social pedagogy became increasingly associated with social
work and notions of social education in a number of European countries.
Social pedagogy is based on humanistic values stressing human dignity, mutual respect, trust,
unconditional appreciation, and equality, to mention but a few. It is underpinned by a fundamental
concept of children, young people and adults as equal human beings with rich and extraordinary
potential and considers them competent, resourceful and active agents. ... Show more content on

You also have to bear in mind that the young people might refuse to allow you to protect them
since they have been hurt in personal relations so many times. The professional pedagogue takes
this understanding from and builds on various theories and this enables reflection to take place. A
professional reflection on your own and others practice enables you to evaluate on the progress you
have seen with a young person.
If we are to build trust and attachments then surely we need to be able to draw on past
experiences. For example our school life to allow the young person to see that many people have
had the same problems and that they do not stand alone.

A brief history of Social Pedagogy
Although pedagogy varies across European countries, there are similar roots that have developed
into differing strands of contemporary thinking in pedagogy. Hämäläinen explains that
historically, social pedagogy is based on the belief that you can decisively influence social
circumstances through education and importantly, education is seen as a life long learning process
that does not only refer to children but includes educating adults, for instance in order to change
their idea of children.
While philosophers of Classical antiquity like Plato and Aristotle discussed how education could
contribute to social development, social pedagogy in theory and practice only emerged through the

9. The Behavioural Inattention Test ( Conventional ; Bitc )
The Behavioural Inattention Test (Conventional; BITC) is a battery of six tests which include
the following: line crossing (also known as Albert s Test), letter cancellation, star cancellation,
copying, line bisection, and representational drawing (i.e. clock drawing task; Wilson, Cockburn,
Halligan, 1987). Each test and any subtests within the battery will be tabulated in greater detail
below. It is important to note that many ADHOC versions of these tests are available online and
can also be freely drawn by a clinician; however, the tests shown here are the originals. It is
always advisable to administer the original tests if they are available at the time as it will mean
more reliable and valid scoring. Cancellation Tests The main purpose of cancellation tasks are to
assess for deficits in visual scanning and visual neglect (such as unilateral spatial neglect [USN];
Wilson et al., 1987). The table below will outline the different types of cancellation (Cx) tasks and
what they assess. These tests in particular are not used to formally diagnose deficits in visual
neglect or scanning, but they do act as an initial screening tool and can help in identifying
difficulties surrounding certain aspects of the patient s visuospatial abilities. By using these
screening tools, it provides the clinician with an indication of what needs to be further investigated
by more formal tests and/or neuroimaging (Halligan, Cockburn, Wilson, 1991). Star CxLetter

The most incredible thing about traveling solo is that you make all the decisions, right or wrong!
You decide where, how, when and what you will see and do. But certainly, it does not appeal to
everyone, and it does have a downside like not being able to share on the spot experiences with
another. There is no one to share the planning and discussions on the best way to achieve the final
desired outcome.
However, traveling solo allows you to learn more about yourself and what you are capable of.
Some people think traveling solo is the boring option but I believe if you are capable of being
happy traveling by yourself, you will find happiness forever. Not only will you never have to
depend on others to make you content but when you travel solo you also give yourself the chance
to pursue what you want, to step out of your comfort zone and meet other people from all sorts of
walks of life.
A brilliant idea to volunteer
While travelling abroad solo, volunteering stands out as a very prudent option to consider,
especially keeping you focused and motivated. For instance, if you have just completed your
graduation and now contemplating posting your C.V. on an online portal; in this competitive world,
getting a job is a tough thing. You have to be the best in your field. Resumes are flooded with extra

12. The Invention Of Lightning Rod
When the only tool you have is a hammer, all problems begin to resemble nails (Abraham
Maslow). How might this apply to ways of knowing, as tools, in the pursuit of knowledge? It is
possible that if we do not use Ways of Knowing in a too contracted and consistent way, it may
limit the expanse and form of knowledge we are able to acquire. When attempting to acquire
knowledge, one must have assets that will assist the process of solving issues. To a certain
degree, Ways of Knowing are not sufficient tools in the process of acquiring knowledge that will
assist one in solving problems because too much information comes with each Way of Knowing.
Areas of Knowledge such as human sciences and history can aid the focus of the Ways of Knowing
reason and perceptionwhere you can only acquire relevant information necessary to solve problems.
It can be said that originally technology was invented to improve the lives of the human race. For
instance, the invention of lightning rod in the year 1752 where Benjamin Franklin s electricity
experiments lead him to a valuable application the lightning rod, which when placed at the apex of
a barn, church steeple, or other structure, conducts lightning bolts harmlessly into the ground
(PBS). Although technology is not a reality for everyone in the world, for instance, the Amish, it
can be said that technology has improved quality of life for many. Benjamin Franklin s discovery

Market forces that are left to follow a natural path without government intervention, lead to an even

16. Appearance In John Updike s A P
Society is obsessed with appearances. We idolize those with seemingly perfect bodies and lives.
We imagine what life would be like in their shoes and wish we could look like them. These are the
issues that Sammy comes up against in John Updike s short story A P . Sammy starts the story as a
carefree teenager, judging the customers that come into the store. But as the story continues,
Sammy reveals how people judge others based on appearances and social status and what
consequences these judgements can have on the social hierarchy.

them based on their physical appearances. He notices all the details around him and absorbs them.

Therefore, it is strange that he would feel that he is superior to the people in the store. After all,
he is the one serving them. Sammy finally realizes the fact that he is of a lower social status

The debate over race and intelligence had been fueled in 1994 when Charles A. Murray and
Richard Hernstein published a book called, The Bell Curve. The Bell Curve was an analysis on the
curve between race and intelligence. Due to the book being published, scientists began working on
multiple tests to try to understand the correlation that was indicated in this book. This is such an
emotional topic to argue about because society could stereotype themselves based on a definitive
answer about race and intelligence. A white child could earn a 90 on a test, above the score that of
a black child has earned, but then an Asian child could outdo both of them. That is where the
correlation can present itself. Due to that example, race and... Show more content on

environments (low social status or ineffective parenting) could affect a child s intelligence even
more (Parker/Morton 1). There is a way to make a child smarter and that starts from an upbringing
environment that is positive (Hurley). While bringing in the genetics of an individual based on
their skin color, there are also different environmental factors that can contribute to the correlation
between race and intelligence. The American Psychological Association studies have shown that
environmental factors can contribute to an individual s intelligence factor. Different revolution
factors, natural selection factors, and environmental differences have an impact (Saletan 4). For
example, a black kid living in a run down neighborhood may do worse than a white kid living in

People think, lowering the drinking age will cause lots of problems in the community. Today s

1847. At this second Congress, Karl Marx, a German economic and political writer, and Friedrich
Engels, a German lawyer, were asked to write a manifesto for the Communist Party. In February of
1848, The Communist Manifesto was published causing revolutions to break out in Paris, and
Berlin. In the Manifesto Marx, and Engels argue that the history of mankind is the history of the

They argue through the changes seen in the transitions from Ancient Rome to Medieval Europe to
Modern Industrial Europe that the history of man and civilization is the history of class struggle
and exploitation. Marx, and Engels conclude that class arrangements are dictated by an era s means
of production such that as the means of production changes so must the class arrangements thus
creating class struggles. This means that those who control the means of production would have the
most revolutionary power. Marx and Engels argue that the bourgeoisie have in the acquisition of
their revolutionary power put an end to feudalism, and the previously existing systems in exchange
for monetarily driven relation systems that had come to fruition. The revolution of the proletariat
will be different from previous revolutions though as it will not be a revolution by the minority for
the interests of the minority but rather the revolution of the majority. This goes to show that,
according to Marx and Engels, the history of class struggle has existed throughout the history of
civilization, and though it may change slightly it will continue to be the history of man as the

The Holy Bible: Should the Good Book be Banned?
The Bible; the only book that has managed to exist, at least in part, for three millennia, and cause
controversy every single step of the way. At one point number six on the American Library
Association s most challenged books list in America (Top Ten Most Challenged Books List,
Ala.org), it has changed hearts and minds and left a trail of chaos in its wake. However, I do
believe I should have been allowed to read this Book of books, because of its great literary value, it
s incredible insights on God, humanity, and society, and its powerful instruction. While many have
came up against it, none have defeated it; thus, it is one of the most influential pieces of literature
that has ever come into existence. The Bible is one of the most powerfully moving pieces of
literature ever in existence. It has great literary value, because it has changed and influenced our
culture immensely. It has changed our society by changing and influencing our government, our
society, and even our very language. Our government was created by mainly Christian men; they
followed the words contained in the Bible. Benjamin Franklin said, ...the longer I live, the more
convincing proofs I see of this truth that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot
fall to the ground without his notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without his aid?

23. Outline Of The Dinosaur Extinction
Outline
The Dinosaur Extinction:
Introduction to the K T event.
Theories of extinction.
Assumptions of extinction:
1.Due to climate change.
2.Due to small mammals that ate dinosaur eggs.
3.Due to dinosaurs bodies that are too big to be worked by their little brains.
4.Due to starvation.
5.Due to environmental change.
6.Due to Supernova that showered the earth in radiation.
7.Due to iridium enriched mud.
Extinction Still a theory.
The K T event, or the Cretaceous Tertiary extinction event, is the name given for the vanishing of
the dinosaurs and different species that took place about 65 million year back. For ages, scientists
believed that this event was caused due to the atmospheric and topographical changes that invaded
on the dinosaurs food supply. But, in the 1980s, researchers Luis and Walter Alvarez discovered a
layer of iridium on the earth s surface. It suggests that a comet, space rock or meteor effect might
have caused the extinction of the dinosaurs. In the 1990s, researchers found the enormous
Chicxulub Crater at the tip of Mexico s Yucantan Peninsula, which dates to the period being referred

There are various theories, yet no proofs. Dinosaurs wandered the earth for about 160 million years
until their sudden eradication approximately 65 million years prior, in a K T extinction event.

Dangers of Peer Pressure on Girls As a little girl I had much confidence about myself and felt I
looked the best from my school as well as many other girls from my school. Nowadays, many girls
are pressured into being perfect in a way they feel they will never accomplish. Little girls such as
ten year olds have started to show low self esteemand hate to their body image because of the
models that are being constantly promoted. As 10TV stated, When you were 10 or 11, you
probably didn t give much thought to body image. Today, kids that age are worried more about
looking like Barbie than playing Barbie. Girls are punishing themselves with cutting, going on
extreme diets, and often kill themselves because they hate themselves. Girls are also seen
wearing makeup at a young age to improve their facial features and think they will now finally be
accepted in society as being perfect. A recent Mintel survey showed that six out of ten seven year
olds wear lipstick, and two in five use eyeshadows. ( Pretty Pressure: Girls it pays to be pretty, but
not too pretty. ) So even though social media is showing off beautiful women to give good
advertisement, girls are being affected by constantly feeling down and wanting to fit into society
and be accepted and seen as perfect, they hate themselves for not being pretty enough as celebrities
that have gone through many surgeries to get that perfect image, and some cases have led to issues

Dracula: Lucy, Mina, and the Similarities Differences Between Them
Dracula, a novel which had originally been written by Bram Stoker in 1897, is commonly
classified as a horror novel by the majority of its readers. However, when putting the novel through
further analysis, the various symbols and themes of sexuality which the novel contains are brought
to the notice of its readers, despite them being easily overlooked by their readers the first time the
novel might be read. In addition, Dracula is a novel which often catches the eye of the majority of

First of all, Mina and Lucy are both characters which play an extremely significant role in the
novel, as they are the sole female characters, as well as narrators, which are described in great
detail by Stoker. Stoker often describes Mina and Lucy as being complete opposites of each other
throughout his novel in order to illustrate, as well as act in contrast, to the two distinctly different
categories of women which he had believed to exist in the Victorian Erawhich was the society s
ideal, innocent and submissive women, which acted in contrast to the rebellious women who
took several risks and managed to break free from the confining norms and ideals of their
prejudiced society which viewed them as being a danger to the society at large. Furthermore,
despite the fact that Mina and Lucy both hold completely different views on which of the two
categories which Stoker believed had existed during the Victorian Era a woman should fall
under, they both manage to acknowledge the widely accepted belief that men are seen as being
more dominant , as compared to women, in the eyes of their Victorian society. For instance, when
Lucy mentions to Mina in the novel, My dear Mina, why are men so noble when we women are
so little worthy of them? (Stoker, 86). In addition, Stoker utilizes Mina in order to illustrate his
vision of what an ideal and perfect Victorian woman is like. For example, in Stoker s novel, Van

27. Heart Rate And Its Effect On The Human Body
Heart Rate as it Relates to Age and Sex
Problem:
The heart is the most important muscle in the human body. It is located in the circulatory system
and it pumps blood along with other nutrients all through the body, which in turn keeps us alive.
But, what is actually happening when it beats? Simultaneously, the heart is receiving deoxygenated
blood and returning oxygenated blood to the body. It is made up of four chambers called the left
and right atria, located on top, and the left and right ventricles, located on the bottom. The right
atrium fills with blood from the veins and then contracts to send the blood to the right ventricle,
which then sends oxygen rich blood to the lungs through arteries. At the same time, the left atrium
fills with blood from the veins and then contracts sending blood to the left ventricle, which then
sends blood to the rest of the body through arteries (Silverthorn). A pulse happens every time the
heart contracts. Pulse in counted by the number of times an artery expands and contracts as a
result of the heart beating. It is measured in number of beats per minute and is commonly written
as bpm. There are seven arteries in the body used to measure pulse, here are a few: the radial
artery, located on the thumb side of the wrist; the brachial artery, located on the inside of the arm
at the elbow; and the carotid artery, located on the side of the neck (Silverthorn). The purpose of

INTRODUCTION
HIV is one of the leading causes of illness in the United States. It is estimated that 1,148,200
individuals are living with HIV, with about 207,800 or 18% that are undiagnosed and 47,500
newly infected in 2010, in the United States (CDC, 2013). Although there is no cure, treatment is
available through antiviral medications, but access to healthcare is often a major pitfall. Many of
the behaviors that make individuals more vulnerable for HIV, such as IV drug use and illegal
prostitution, also increase an individual s vulnerability to be incarcerated. In 2010, there were
20,093 reported inmates with HIV/AIDS in custody in either state or federal prison (HIV in
Prisons, 2012). Although this number has decreased since the previous census count of 20,880
individuals imprisoned in either state or federal custody, this still does not take into account the
individuals that are released from prison and are required to seek a continuation of treatment on
their own. In 2012, the number of admissions to state and federal prison in the United States was
609,800 offenders. The number of releases from U.S. prisons in 2012 (637,400) exceeded that of
admissions for the fourth consecutive year (Prisoners in

Chapter 1: Introduction
Need of the project
Productivity in construction is broadly outlined as output per labor hour. Labor Productivity in any
construction project is units of work placed or produced per labor hour, which directly influences
the total project cost, completion time period and project quality. Hence, it is very crucial for us to
have in detail information of the factors which positively or negatively influences the productivity
so that we can take required action to mitigate the negative effects and reinforce the positive effects.
Moreover, aluminum formwork is the dynamic evolution the construction industry which has been
adopted for advanced construction in various segments, hence its productivity is of utmost
important for its complete acceptance in the industry. This research will focus on determining the
factors which changes the output given by the laborers working with aluminum formwork. This
will help in enhancing the physical progress of the project by applying the tool or remedy
subjected to a particular factor.
Project Objective
The aim of this analysis is to identify factors influencing labor productivity in building construction
with attention on formwork operations and to understand its variations attributable in direct impact
on labor productivity. This research focuses on determining the relationship between various

32. The Buzz Saw Poem Analysis
A young fellow is cutting kindling with a buzz saw in New England. Close to the end of the day,
the kid s sister reports that it is time for supper and, out of exhilaration, the kid unintentionally cuts
his hand with the saw. He asks his sister not to enable the specialist to cut away the hand yet deep
down understands that he has effectively lost a great deal of blood to survive. The boypasses away
while under anesthesia, and everybody backpedals to work. Around 1916 World War I was in
progress and a lot of unprepared children had to take the duties of the adults to help out with the
households. Frost utilizes the strategy of personification to significantly impact in this poem. The
buzz saw, however; a lifeless question is depicted as a discerning being, forcefully growling and
rattling as it does its work. At the point when the sister makes the supper declaration, the saw
indicates that it has its very own psyche by jumping out of the boy s hand in exhilaration. Frost
declines to lay fault for the damage on the boy, who is a young child on the most fundamental
level. In spite of faulting the saw, Frost accuses the grown ups at the scene for not interceding
and advising the kid to throw in the towel before the mischance happened. Had the kid got an
early reason from the workday, he would have refrained from removing his hand and would have
been spared from death. Besides, an insignificant half hour break from his employment would have
enabled the kid to recapture some portion of his adolescence, if just for a minute. Frost s
accentuation on the boy s lack of involvement and blamelessness in this circumstance is especially
noteworthy with regards to the day and age. Subsequent to moving to England with his family, Frost
was compelled to come back to America as a result of the onset of World War I in 1915, an
occasion that would devastate the lives of numerous pure young men. In view of that, this poem can
be perused as an investigation of the world occasions that constrained young men to abandon their
childhoods and at last be decimated by conditions outside their ability to control. Most adolescents

Natural rate of unemployment
The natural rate of unemployment (sometimes called the structural unemployment rate) is a
concept of economic activity developed in particular by Milton Friedman and Edmund Phelps in
the 1960s, both recipients of the Nobel prize in economics. In both cases, the development of the
concept is cited as a main motivation behind the prize.[1][2] It represents the hypothetical
unemployment rate consistent with aggregate production being at the long run level. This level is
consistent with aggregate production in the absence of various temporary frictions such as
incomplete price adjustment in labor and goods markets. The natural rate of unemployment
therefore corresponds to the unemployment rate prevailing under a ... Show more content on

Of course, the prices a company charges are closely connected to the wages it pays. Figure 1 shows
a typical Phillips curve fitted to data for the United States from 1961 to 1969. The close fit between
the estimated curve and the data encouraged many economists, following the lead of Paul
Samuelson and Robert Solow, to treat the Phillips curve as a sort of menu of policy options. For
example, with an unemployment rate of 6 percent, the government might stimulate the economy to
lower unemployment to 5 percent. Figure 1 indicates that the cost, in terms of higher inflation,
would be a little more than half a percentage point. But if the government initially faced lower rates
of unemployment, the costs would be considerably higher: a reduction in unemployment from 5 to
4 percent would imply more than twice as big an increase in the rate of inflation about one and a
quarter percentage points.
At the height of the Phillips curve s popularity as a guide to policy, Edmund Phelps and Milton
Friedman independently challenged its theoretical underpinnings. They argued that well informed,
rational employers and workers would pay attention only to real wages the inflation adjusted
purchasing power of money wages. In their view, real wages would adjust to make the supply of
labor equal to the demand for labor, and the unemployment rate would then stand at a level uniquely
associated with that real wage the natural rate of unemployment.

Erving Goffman created the idea of a total institution and the degradation ceremony. This is
something that is often seen in societies to resocialize people. In the book An Ember in the Ashes,
there will be many examples of how the total institution and the process of resocialization work.
Replacing one s sense of self with something different, is an example of resocialization. This is
done through the work of a total institution. A total institution is, an institution that regulates all
aspects of a person s life, under a single authority... (Schaefer, 86) In the book An Ember in the

rules of total institutions. The first rule is, All aspects of life are conducted I the same place under
the control of a single authority. An Ember in the Ashes, takes place at an academy called

religion and laws are based on humanity. From holy literature many different ideas have been

there was a severe lacking in employment and by 1933, 15 million people were unemployed.
The option of having a family was strained since there were financial issues. In addition the

37. What Is The Situationist Perspective In Lord Of The Flies
Dr. Zimbardo uses a situationist perspective on the ways through which anti social behavior is
understood, treated and prevented. This view contrasts with the traditional dispositional
perspective, which locates evil within individual predispositions and looks at a person s internal
factors and traits. The situationist perspective is different in that, unlike the dispositional
perspective, it often uses experimental and laboratory research to demonstrate vital phenomena,
whereas other perspectives may only use archival or correlational data to suggest such answers.
The main example that illustrates through experimental research and social analysis is the ease by
which ordinary, good people are induced into behaving in evil ways.... Show more content on

We live in a world cloaked with evil; it is ironic how humans are capable of committing the most

Lord of the Flies and the Psychology of Deindividuation
This section is mainly about The Lord of the Flies by William Golding and how it illustrates that
one s external physical appearance can lead to a tremendous change in one s mental state. It is
really interesting how in the book, once the boys get over the initial moral dilemma of whether to
kill a pig and live or whether to let the pig live and die themselves, they have no problem with
killing pigs. With every killing, the death of the pig seems to become more brutal and
demoralizing. At one point, they even impale the pig with a stick in the anus, proclaiming their
deed in horrific valor. This goes back to sexual aggression because it can be viewed as the raping
and killing of a female pig. I can justify the gradual ease of killing pigs with an example. My
friend, who goes hunting often, told me about how he can manage to kill a dear without feeling
bad inside. He said that the actual killing is only hard the first time and that the other times, it is
relatively easy because one simply stops thinking about it. One thinks about the deer as the prey, not
as an innocent animal minding its own business. As for the experiment with the deindividuated and
individuated women, it seems to make a lot of sense

40. Radio Act Of 1912 Essay
Imagine if you were the captain on the Titanic and it was just struck by an iceberg. Your
automatic action is to send a distress signals for help and get everybody on lifeboats. Everyone
survives and lives happily ever after. What really happened was the distress signals got jammed
and it delayed help. 1,000 lives were lost and the act of 1912 was born. In the early days of radio,
radio was poorly regulated and created chaos. In the early days, the radio industry was in chaos
due to poor regulations and uncontrolled rapid growth. The Radio Act of 1912 was an
unsuccessful attempt at regulation because it didn t allow the government to deny radio
broadcasting licenses [1]. In fact, the law did not even mention radio broadcasting since radio was
not common when the law was made. Even though the law required that radio operators to be
licensed, it did not allow the denial of radio licenses. Over the span of 21... Show more content on

In 1928 the law called the Davis Amendment was passed. Every zone had to have equal
allocations of licenses, time of operation, station power, and wavelength. It made radio more
consistent, therefore audiences enjoyed a better listening experience. The Davis Amendment asked
many radio stations to relocate because no matter the size of location the number of stations had to
be kept the same. In 1934 Congress passed the Communications Act, establishing the Federal
Communications Commission, which regulates interstate and international communications by
radio, television, wire, satellite and cable in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and U.S.
territories . The FCC was created because TV was new, the Radio act of 1927 never mentioned it
and they wanted to regulate TV. The impact of the FCC is still being felt today since they control
what can be on TV, internet, and radio. The Radio Act s influence on the FCC can be still felt

41. Milton Freidman s Position In The Gospel Of Wealth
It is a general consensus that from an economic perspective that businesses are expected to benefit
shareholders and contribute to society through value maximization. Milton Freidman, however,
takes this a step further by asserting that this is the basis of moral behavior for businesses and
that they act immorally when they diminish profit by trying to assume other social
responsibilities instead of letting greater population do that on their own. Although this
philosophy would ideally maximize both profit and the amount of money that people could
contribute to the social cause of their choice, it does not work as efficiently in a society where
there a large portion of society is not in a place to focus on social issues. When this situation is
viewed from the perspective of Maslow s hierarchy of needs, it is evident that until substantial
gains are made in the quality of life in the general population, Freidman s position will not result in
social responsibility. Andrew Carnegie unknowingly takes the hierarchy of needs into account
when he counters Freidman s position in the Gospel of Wealth. In his work, Carnegie argues that
the proper way to maximize the efficiency of social causes is for elite businessmen make the
choices that many others are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although Carnegie s model does not address businessmen directly, it does promote the
distribution of wealth by people who have more power to direct change. This falls in line with
Maslow s hierarchy of needs because people who may be struggling to make ends meet are not
expected to bear all of the weight of social responsibility. By placing this responsibility on
businessmen, it ensures that those who are investing are not suffering for their

42. Xander J. Carter Research Paper
The state of Virginia, a few miles away from the city of Richmond, there lived a young man
named Xander J. Carter who was about to move out of his parents house. His family lived in
Washington DC. and he was planning to move to Richmond. He was moving to Richmond to start
his own life by himself and to meet up with some old friends. He had saved up enough money
from working two part time jobs at Mcdonald s and Wal mart, so he could rent a small apartment.
He also made sure that he would have some money left over to last him a month. Soon after arriving
to Richmond he met up with one of his friends, named George, who helped him move into his new
apartment. The apartment had one bedroom that had a bathroom that was connected to both the
bedroom and the hallway. It also had a kitchen that was connected to his living room. The apartment
was located at the end of the apartment compilation on the second floor. The entrance to the
apartment led into the living room which meant that the bedroom was located all the way in the
back. When they arrived at the apartment they started to move all of Xander s boxes into the living
room and from there they unpacked everything. Unfortunately Xander s furniture wasn t going to

43. Analysis Of The Film Dead Man Walking
Introduction The theoretical perspective I found most convincing when analyzing the behavior
of the main character, Mathew Poncelot, in the film, Dead Man Walking, are the ideologies of
sociologist Max Weber. He believed that rather than only focusing on one s social actions, it is
instead important to understand why people do the things that they do (Long Crowell).
Empathizing with individuals and identifying their perspectives explains one s rationales behind
each choice and behavior (Long Crowell). By gaining an understanding of an individual s point
of view, we can make sense of their reality and how their perceptions affect their role in our
world (DuBose, 2015). Weber s theory supports that Poncelot s behaviors can be explained by
evaluating the rationale behind the factors that influenced and affected the choices he made. His
childhood experiences, family values, education level, social class, and economic status were
crucial factors when explaining why he became the person he was. Furthermore, the combination
of Poncelot s thoughts and actions were based on the experiences and social interactions he
encountered. Throughout this analysis, I will reflect on the various theoretical perspectives
discussed this semester and what I have learned from each of these concepts. I will address why I
found Weber s theory most convincing and apply connections between theories as they relate to
understanding social problems and the values of daily social work practices.

44. Essay on Testing Aerodynamic Structures for Our Science...
First, aerodynamics is the study of the motion of the air. Aerodynamics consists of 4 variables,
which is thrust, gravity, lift, and drag. (Tennekes,H, 2009) Aerodynamics has to do with almost
everything dealing with air of course.(Tennekes,H ,2009) For example, it can be air crafts, it can be
wings, it can be birds, it can be a race car. Birds need aerodynamicsso they can glide in the air so
they can also gain enough speed to catch prey. Like a hawk swooping down 70 miles an hour to
get a mouse to eat. Race cars need aerodynamics so that the car structure can have the most air
resistance it wont apply as much pressure onto the car. Like birds air crafts also need
aerodynamics for the wings on the aircraft or the weight of the aircraft.... Show more content on

They have to deal with aerodynamics everyday since they are the scientists who works everyday
trying to make aerodynamic rockets to study space, they have to be very precise when ever they
make a rocket, it can take years, because one time NASA sent a rocket but as soon it hit a certain
altitude it exploded because of on of the cables inside wasn t connected. (NASA,2013) Plus NASA
is also creating aircraft for the future so they can send regular people into space to experience how
it would feel like to go into space, but the trip would cost over 3 million dollars, so you would only
be allowed to get on if you are a millionaire or higher. (NASA,2013) Lift is a force pushes the
object up ward. Drag is related to air resistance, drag is like friction but like in the air. Drag is a
force that causes to pull the object the opposite way, for example if you put your hand out a
window of a car and the car is on the high way, and if you make your hand like a wall and put it
out in the air it would pull your hand back wards. (Paper Airplanes HQ 2013) But if you put your
hand flat down it would just let your hand pass through since its allows air to go around the hand
causing little drag. Thrust is a forward force which allows the object to go into the air, for example
when you have a paper airplane and throw it, that throw with your arm is the thrust for the airplane
to launch.(Auld,D.J. K.Srinivas ,2013) Gravity

45. Pocahontas and the Mythical Indian Woman Essay
Pocahontas and the Mythical Indian Woman
Pocahontas. Americans know her as the beautiful, Indian woman who fell in love with the white
settler John Smith and then threw her body upon the poor white captive to protect him from being
brutally executed by her own savage tribe. The magical world of Walt Disney came out with their
own movie version several years ago portraying Pocahontas as a tan, sexy Barbie doll figure and
John Smith as a blond haired, blue eyed muscular Ken doll. Although Disney attempts to instill
racial tolerance, inter racial friendship, and nonviolent resolutions in Pocahontas, they contribute to
the inaccurate Indian woman stereotype that has evolved from such stories. While it can be argued
that Disney has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Barnett explains, a number of unlucky Pocahontas figures populate the frontier romance, saving
white beloveds only at the cost of their own lives (93). Fortunately, Pocahontas s life was spared
despite her willingness to sacrifice, although her later affiliations with a white man and Europe led
to her death from disease. The notion of females rescuing white men and assimilating with their
culture have traditionally been connected, which resulted in greater Indian deaths due to their
exposure to a foreign culture from which they had not yet learned to protect themselves.
On the other hand, these new Native women are not always the primary characters of the fiction,
but their presence is necessary for the text to evolve. Although similarities exist between the
mythical Indian woman and the characters developed in modern fiction, the new portrait being
painted of Native women shows them as strong, spiritual, and powerful, even if they choose to use
their power in a destructive manner. Keeping with tradition, Indian women are still caretakers and
healers but while they keep their positions as saviors of men, Indian women are illustrated saving
Indian men rather than white males. Whereas the Indian women previously saved white men from
the savages of their own tribe, they are now saving their own race from the destruction of the white
world. Native women healing sick Indian

48. Service Line Development Task 2
When analyzing the community health assessment several risks and weakness are identified.
There are a few risks and weakness with the current state of Oncology Services. With physicians
practices already at capacity there is no room to handle the current and future demand for these
services. With an aging population new cancer cases are expected to increase by 34 % in five
years. Higher smoking rates also contribute to new cancer diagnosis. Another riskis the equipment to
diagnose and treat cancer is not keeping up with patient volume. This could be due to antiquated
equipment that takes longer to scan patients therefore delaying results and sometimes requiring
additional scanning. Additionally, poorly coordination of services by... Show more content on

As with cancer and orthopedics there will be a large increase in demand for cardiovascular
services in the next five years. As obesity increase there will be an increase in high blood
pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes which will lead to an increase in cardiovascular services.
A risk would be not securing the funding to add the additional cath labs, surgical suites, and
cardiac rehab program. Without these services the hospitals will not be able accommodate the
growth. Another risk is recruiting enough qualified physicians to provide care to the growing
population. Because no emphasis is placed on education cardiac risk factors, healthy living, and
lifestyle modification the demand for these services will increase dramatically becoming a
weakness of the hospital.
Currently there is no formal oncology, orthopedic, or cardiology programs at Trinity although there
are a few orthopedic surgeons and cardiologists that maintain privileges at the hospital. There are
no cancer specialists that practice at the hospital but a group composed of eight medical
oncologists and two radiation oncologists has expressed interest in an affiliation to develop a
cancer program. Should the hospital decide to develop this program there is adequate vacant space
on the campus that is suitable for medical and radiation oncology. Currently the hospital is not

51. Persuasive Essay On Family Farm
What is the main problem in our world today? Some people may say war or the racism going on
in our world but really the main problem is the need for food. Everybody likes eating, not just
because it s a hobby but because we need food to survive. The population of this world is
increasing drastically and soon enough by the year of 2050 the population will be nine billion.
That is a lot of mouths to feed. Our country can battle this sharp increase by developing GMO s.
GMO stands for genetically modified organisms which can increase the production or yield of a
plant drastically. These genetically modified plants can range from an ear of corn to plump
apple on a tree. Some people may think though that GMO s are deadly and that going a more
organic pathaway is much safer. In reality though, GMO s are just as safe as organic products
and even produce double the amount. The key on feeding this monstrous growth in population
would be leaving organic in the past. Let s go back to the foundation of our country, the family
farm. The farm is a bright sunny place that raises the food we eat today. Now how does GMO s
relate to the simple family farm? Well for one the farm is the beginning process of getting the
bread on your sandwich or the cereal you eat for breakfast. What do we do to produce this piece of
bread or develop the simple bowl of cereal? Well for starters farmers raise genetically modified
crops like corn, soybeans, wheat, and many others. Some of these grains can
