The Hollywood Sign Analysis
The Hollywood sign: fantasy and reality of an American icon by Leo Braudy and Videoland:
movie culture at the American video store by Daniel Herbert are two scholarly works that analyze
the importance of place within various aspects of the entertainment industry. In The Hollywood
Sign, Braudy provides a comprehensive history and analysis of the famous Hollywood Signand
successfully describes both the physical and metaphorical significance of the icon. Through use
of factual information, chronologically presented history, and all inclusive analysis, Braudy
shows us that the unapproachable but highly visible nature of the sign has created a sense of
prestige and glamour in the minds of those who seek it out, and this has continually allowed
business people to take advantage of those who wish to engage with it. Videoland uses a similar
method of analysis to posit ideas about the humble video store; the work argues that its past
existence as a physical place facilitated interaction between browsers and clerks, while also
maintaining a metaphorical significance in that its store geography shaped the browser s
perception of movies. While the Hollywood Sign exists as one place that can be interpreted in
various ways, video stores exist (or used too) as many places whose layout crafts an experience for
the consumer, leaving no room for interpretation. In their respective works, Braudy argues that the
metaphorical idea of the Hollywood sign contributed to the physical development of

Rescinding Job Offer Case Study
Employer May Have Violated ADA By Rescinding Job Offer On August 24th, 2015, the 10th
Circuit Court of Appeal reversed a lower District Court ruling in Wyoming that found an
employer not in violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) for rescinding a job offer
to a disabled employee. The reversal operates to clarify under what circumstances employers must
make reasonable accommodations to disabled employees within the meaning of the ADA.
Complaints under the ADA in relation to disability are one of the top complaints against
employers, totaling over 25,000 complaints in 2014 alone. As such, it is a serious issue to which
employers should give proper notice and take steps to address within the workplace. The ADA

It is expected that the ruling will operate to permit disabled individuals expanded opportunities
within healthcare fields. This ruling is important to employers, especially those in healthcare,
who must be aware of their duties to provide reasonable accommodations to employees where
there is no significant safety risk. That a disabled individual is working within the healthcare
industry is insufficient in and of itself to demonstrate a safety risk, as are obscure and unlikely
risks that may be articulated by an employer. Thus, employers must be sure to provide the
reasonable accommodation unless they can demonstrate an actual significant safety risk, or risk
liability for failing to do so. If you are an employer and are unsure if you are required under the
ADA to provide a reasonable accommodation to an employee, or are facing a claim by an

Leonard vs. Pepsico
Leonard v. PepsiCo
210 F.3d 88 (2d Cir.2000)*
In 1996 PepsiCo advertising campaign launched, through which consumer who collected epmty
Pepsi containers could earn Pepsi Points that could be redeemed for bikes, jacket, cups, and other
such merchandise. During this compaign, PepsiCo let the television commercial in rotation,
showcasing a number of the items being offered. This argumentative ad showed a suburban teen
preparing for school and wearing some Pepsi Stuff (sunglasses, t shirt), as the items/stuff were
depicted, numbers at the bottom of the screen revealed how many Pepsi Points they cost. At the
end of this television commercial, this suburban teen landed a Harrier Jet near a bike rack at his

In an agreement there must be a meeting of the minds, which indicates mutual assent by both
parties. There is no meeting of the minds when one side (PepsiCo) is obviously joking.
Another issue, which was the case in court, is that John Leonard s understanding of this
commercial as an offer must also be rejected because the New York Court found out that no
objective person (while Mr. Leonard is a subjective person) could reasonably have concluded that
the commercial actually offered consumers a Harrier Jet. In a basic rule of contracts mentioned,
that whether an offer has been made depends on the objective reasonableness of the alleged
offeree s belief that the advertisement or solicitation was intended as an offer. Reasonable Person
Standard based on common rules, and in relation to society is an objective, so according to this
standard if it is clear that an offer was not serious, then no offer has been made.
In this case objective reasonable standard notes only how resonable persons behave, and what
their reaction. While seriousness determines whether, in our case commercial, is real and serious,
and may be perceived as an offer. As it was mentioned before, PepsiCo s commercial had no offer,
and advertising are not serious. Moreover the Court found this television commercial an absurd.
Any reasonable person can t take all the actions, that take place in this television commercial, and
the plot, seriously, due to the following facts: 1) Second, the

There are many possibilities and options I could have taken if I were in Dudley s shoes. Murder
Parker, and feed on him; ask for Parker s consent to kill and consume him; take a vote, or a lottery
and then feed on the selected one, assuming there was consensus to the vote or lottery and to its
outcome. However, if I had a choice, there would have been no murder, but perhaps an act of
cannibalism, if say the boy, Parker, died naturally. Using Kant s categorical imperative, I believe
that murder, in any way, aside from self defense, is morally wrong.
Kant s categorical imperative refers to the supreme principle of morality whereby it is morally

Since I have already proven that the killing of Parker was intended murder in the previous
paragraph, this shows that through the murder, Parker s rights to live was deprived. He, being a
young boy of seventeen, eighteen, would have his own aspirations and dreams and he was
deprived of that right to live and fulfill those dreams, just because he was weaker than the other
three men. Furthermore, he was not consulted at all about his death. This will be discussed in the
later paragrah. The rights of human beings therefore, are much more important than fulfilling the
happiness of the stakeholders in this case, the family and friends of the men, the men themselves,
the general public, and human right activists.
In this situation, the four themselves would not want to die. For the three men, their families and
friends would lose a loved one if any of them died. Assuming in those days, the father usually is
the breadwinner of the family, losing him, would thus mean that the family would lose a source
of income, and bread and butter on their table. This may lead to the mother having to work, or in
a more severe situation, the children may have to work as well. Moreover, having a father figure
in the family is important for a home to be wholesome. Losing Parker, on the other hand, will not
have such consequences as he being an orphan would not

This lab will record the growth process of embryo rescue in a hormone free media.
The results on the percentages of attempts that resulted in the isolation of an intact embryo was
33%. This is due to the fact that this was the first time that I performed an embryo rescue, and
made a few mistakes along the way. The first mistake that occurred was that I cut too deep into the
endosperm, and cut into the embryo itself (a few times). Another mistake that was made was that I
found it hard to cut into the seeds while using the forceps, without losing the seed.
The percentage of intact embryos that developed into a plant was 33%, meaning the only one out of
the three sprouted.
The changes that occurs during the progression from dormant embryo to active growth is that the
crown becomes a reddish color, which is that is appeared on most Wayfaringtree Viburnum. The red
crown is due to the flavonoids that are apparent in the molecular structure.
Since Wayfaringtree Viburnum has to go through the cold stratification to break dormancy, the
mechanism practice that would have to take place would have to be a type of refrigeration or
freezing process. This process is done for 8 10 weeks of holding temperature of 4В° C. These

The Legacy Of A New Democratic South Africa
Trailblazers and change agents are men and women who dared the odds and sacrificed their
freedom for the gain of others. Great leaders live among the masses; the quality of their service,
humility, dedication, and selflessness distinguishes them from the populace. These great leaders are
munificent men and women who are independent in their thinking. One such man, Nelson
Mandela, delivered Acceptance and Nobel Lecture in 1993 for his contributions to the peaceful
termination of the apartheid rule and for laying the foundations of a new democratic South Africa.
(Nobel Prize) Mandela begins building his credibility with facts and statistics, and employing
emotional appeal and ultimately sustaining the readers interest. Mandela s lived an eventful life
and delivered a spectacular speech for his works of peace in South Africa. The NobelPrize.org
records that Nelson Mandela, born in 1918 in South Africa studied law and became one of South
Africa s first black lawyers. (Mandela Facts) In the 1950s he was elected leader of the youth wing
of the African National Congress (ANC) liberation movement. This movement was prohibited by
the white minority government in 1960, which convinced Mandela to embrace violence as a
strategy. He went on to organize a movement and was arrested in 1962 for high treason and
conspiracy and was later sentenced to life imprisonment. For about two decades, he was at the

Descartes First Meditation Essay
Descartes First Meditation
Rene Descartes decision to shatter the molds of traditional thinking is still talked about today. He
is regarded as an influential abstract thinker; and some of his main ideas are still talked about by
philosophers all over the world. While he wrote the Meditations , he secluded himself from the
outside world for a length of time, basically tore up his conventional thinking; and tried to come to
some conclusion as to what was actually true and existing. In order to show that the sciences rest on
firm foundations and that these foundations lay in the mind and not the senses, Descartes must
begin by bringing into doubt all the beliefs that come to him by the senses. This is done in the first

He does this by attacking straightaway those principals which support everything [he] once
believed. (Pg60) He decides that he must not try to show that all of his opinions are false, which
is perhaps something [he] could never accomplish (Pg59) but rather he should withhold [his]
assent no less carefully from opinions that are not completely certain and indubitable that [he]
would from those that are patently false. (Pg.59) By doing this he will tear down all the false
ideologies that he holds, and be subject to only the opinions that he can prove to be absolutely and
necessarily true.
In the first meditation, Concerning those things that can be called into doubt , Descartes main
goal is to distinguish what it is he can take to be true, and what supposed truths hold even the
smallest degree of doubt. When he reviews all of his opinions he concludes eventually [he] is
forced to admit that there is nothing among the things [he]believed to be true which it is not
permissable to doubt and not out of frivolity or lack of forethought, but for valid and considered
reasons. Thus [he] must be no less careful to withhold assent henceforth even from these beliefs
then [he] would from those that are patently false, if [he wishes] to find anything certain. (Pg62) At
the beginning of Descartes meditations, he finds that there is really no concrete pillars of
knowledge to base the foundations of his supposed

A Case For A Partnership Agreement
10. Kathleen and Jim are business partners at a consulting firm. Upon Jim s sudden death, his
widow claims that she is entitled to a share of the firm s assets or should be able to take his Jims
place as Kathleen s partner. Is she entitled to her claims? Why or why not?
The outcome of this case depends on whether or not a partnership agreement was formed prior to
the partner s death. If the partnership agreement wasn t formed, general partnership State statues
will take default (Clarkson, 2015, p. 721). However, a partnership agreement will always
override state laws. If the provisions allow the partnership to continue after a partner s death, the
wife will be entitled to her husband s shares and if the provisions don t state otherwise she will
also be able to take over his place in the firm (Wright, 2016). If a partnership agreement does not
exist, most states will require a partnership to dissolve after a partner s death. The deceased
partner s shares will be used to pay off any debts or obligations and the remainder funds will be
distributed to the surviving partners (Wright, 2016). If the deceased partner includes his wife in
his will, then a portion of the funds will be distributed to his wife after the dissolution. If his will
is in probate, the funds will be distributed to his estate (Wright, 2016). A major disadvantage of not
having a partnership agreement, is the risk of the spouse demanding her inheritance immediately
(Wright, 2016). Since the partner s capital is

Pharmacy Improvement Services at Cvs
The Service Process at (CVS) The process consisted of five basic steps (refer to Figure 1), the
first being the drop off. A customer would drop off a script and write the requested pickup time
on the script itself, then put it in a box that was divided into a number of slots. These slots were
assigned to a specific time period and the tech would put the script into the slot corresponding to
the hour before the desired pickup time. The busiest times at the drop off were before work,
lunchtime, and after work. Regardless of when they dropped them off, more customers wanted to

The problems with the fulfilment process and recommended changes An Overview The overall
problems faced during the entire pharmacy fulfilment process were that pickup window technicians
dealt with customers who did not get what they were expecting. Based on their analyses and
observations, the PSI team estimated that 16% of customers fell into this category. It was also even
more disturbing that 27% of scripts encountered a substantial problem at some point in the
fulfilment process. It should also be noted that even though CVS grew at market rates, it was only
because customers believed that no one provided great services and they thought it was difficult to
switch from one pharmacy to another. Despite this, at the start of 200, approximately 7.2 million
regular pharmacy customers left CVS during the year, causing CVS to lose an estimated 55 million
annual prescriptions that would have contributed $2.5 billion to revenue. It can therefore be seen
retaining customers should be the main agenda for CVS. This can be done through improvement in
CVS s services and operations. In order to achieve this outcome our group feels that an upgraded
computerized service system, complete with a more comprehensive database would provide the
strong foundations for a smooth business operation. The system should be able to monitor and
record logistics, inventory movements, insurance checks, customer profiles etc. Secondly, training

Ernst s Art
As a Surrealist pioneer, Ernst s art displayed some of the most radical and unorthodox imagery in
the early 1920s. Violence and pain were perhaps the most avant garde elements of Ernst s art,
and this perception is on full display in one of Ernst collages displayed during Breton s Paris Au
Sans Pareil exhibition, The Preparation of Bone Glue. It depicts a diathermy process in which an
electrical current treats joint ailments (Kavky 2012); his use of violence and pain as both cause
and cure intensifies the victimization of the woman (Kavky 2012). The Preparation of Bone Glue
is widely considered as an early example of Surrealist art, and Ernst s early work with the mentally
ill provided significant influence into the troubled minds of some patients.
From a personal perspective, Massacre of the Innocents, released in 1920, represents one of the
more unique and grotesque representations; the imagery in the collage is akin to a modern day
crime scene. Ernst made ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Breton to pen a brief essay entitled Max Ernst reflecting Breton s bald enthusiasm for Ernst s

Sustainable Architecture Advantages And Disadvantages
With global warming, the world s attention on building energy efficiency is increasing. There are a
large proportion of architects recognised that the main factor of global warming is the use of
building energy generated by CO2. Sustainable architecture is involving methods that do not
completely use up or destroy natural resources. There are several major elements need to be
considered, such as technology, economy and Health . However, architects pay their greatest
attention to environment. Because environment is the fundamental factor of others and influence
humans life . Sustainable architectures reduce the consumption of resources in order to save energy
for nature and also green buildings produce less pollution in order to save environment. Evidence
suggests that sustainable architectures are advantageous for environment.Whereas, other
individuals states that sustainable buildings get more drawbacks. This essay argues that the
advantages of sustainable architecturefar outweigh the disadvantages in relation to technology ,

Mozart vs. Beethoven Paper

Mozart vs. Beethoven In the 18th century, the middle class made a lot more money. During the
Classical Period, the middle class had a tremendous influence on music. They wanted to hear
concertos and symphonies. They wanted their children to learn great music and play instruments.
The composers began writing music that was geared towards the middle class because they could
make a better living if they enjoyed the music being played. They wrote music that was easier for
their students to understand and play. Serious music changed into comic operas, or popular folk
tunes, and dance music. This was a good thing it shaped dance and music forever. Mozart and

At the age of eight, he wrote a symphony and at eleven, he wrote an oratorio. Then, at the age of
twelve he wrote a great opera. Mozart s father was Leopold Mozart, who happened to be a court
musician. Both Mozart and Beethoven had help from their fathers in many different ways.
Mozart s father helped him travel around as a young musician and he traveled many places and
he seen many well known people and aristocrats. Because of Mozart s early successes many
challenges had become part of his life. He had very high expectations from the community and
from his father. Unlike, Beethoven, Mozart was spoiled as a youth and because of this he refused
to be treated as a servant. He completely relied on his father s help and refused to work with the
archbishop. This would become a problem later when Mozart did not develop enough initiative.
Because of that he could not make decisions on his own.
Then at age 25, Mozart broke free from Salzburg and became a great freelance musician in
Vienna. This is where Mozart found and started some of his success. Mozart earned his living
giving lessons to people and holding concerts. Mozart later wrote his piece Don Giovanni and
then The marriage of Figaro and these were great pieces for his time. Eventually, Mozart s
popularity disapeared and his music was found to be very complicated and hard to follow. Mozart

incessant praying, the aphoristic poem praises the cat Jeoffry, a faithfulservant to God.
Unrestricted by rigid poetic structures, My Cat Jeoffry is nevertheless organized and coherent,
ablaze with a current of religious fervour. It is impossible to know if the poem was inspired by
genius or by madness, but it is infused with sanity and truth. While the poem is about a cat s
devotion to God through its daily actions, Smart s My Cat Jeoffry also serves as a lesson to
humankind. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Is Smart perhaps inserting his characteristic wit into My Cat Jeoffry and alluding to John Wesley s
(1703 1791) dictum cleanliness is next to godliness ?
Superior to other animals due to the dexterity of his movements (40, 71), Jeoffry is able to serve
God asleep and awake, as emphasized in Smart s parallel lines For there is nothing sweeter than
his peace when at rest./For there is nothing brisker than his life when in motion (44 45). Jeoffry s
abilities to influence those around him is also brought into light in the parallel lines For he is hated
by the hypocrite and miser./For the former is afraid of detection./For the latter refuses the charge
(57 59).
Jeoffry, even when his day s work is done (23), continues to work in God s grace by keeping the
Devil at bay with his electrical skin glaring eyes (25). This use of diction seems absurd, and one
wonders if Smart is not fooling his audience all along. Echoing William Blake s The Tiger and
his Four Fold Vision by the vivid descriptions of his Angel Tiger (29), Smart hints that there exist
multiple layers in My Cat Jeoffry . Without a doubt, Jeoffry s life can be paralleled to that of
humankind. However, what kind of person does Smart speak of? Is Smart truly praising those
who are devoted to God, or is he criticizing those who are over zealous in their devotions?
Given the knowledge of Smart s background,

Non Polar Amino Acid Chromatography Paper
Hypothesis: If a polar amino acid is adsorbed by a polar matrix, then the polar matrix will not move
as far along the matrix as a hydrophobic amino acid. If this is so, the Rf value of a polar amino acid
will be relatively small to that of a non polar amino acid.
Introduction: In order to identify whether an amino acid is polar (hydrophilic) or non polar
(hydrophobic), the process of chromatography is used, which separates the amino acids and
identifies them based on specific chemical traits given by the R groups. The process is preformed
by placing spots of the sample(s) on the origin of a matrix, or chromatography paper, letting it dry,
then placing the edge of the paper with the samples on it into a solvent (in this lab, it was alcohol).

The Importance Of Access For Safe And Abundant Clean Water
Motivation Access to safe and abundant clean water is a foundational core that separates advanced
nations from underdeveloped nations across the globe. Countries with reliable infrastructure that
facilitates water security enjoy economic and social stability enabling health and prosperity for its
citizenry. Subsequently, vigilant safeguarding of the water supply is among the highest priorities
for developed nations. Climate change, technological advancements and the overall modernization
of the population present threats to water stability in the form of widespread drought, contaminated
runoff and deficient water management. The dramatic increase in the use of pharmaceuticals is one
area of specific concern for scientists charged with mitigating the effect of contaminants on the
water supply. Close to 70% of Americans take at least one prescription drug, and that number has
been steadily increasing over the past several decades1. With this high level of ingestion of both
prescription and over the counter medications, consideration of the total lifetime effect of
pharmaceuticals in the environment is paramount. After consumption or disposal of medications,
the drugs typically accrue in the water supply. Once in environmental waters, these potent
chemicals can interact with aquatic life or end up in human s drinking supply. Pharmaceutical Entry
into the Environment The pharmaceutical contamination of waters is first determined by the
human interaction with

William Carlos Williams A Poor Old Woman
Poets of the 20th century often experimented with the rules of poetry and in doing so unmade, then
remade the poem as we know it. Some followed Ezra Pound s advice to make it new. Modernist
poets would experiment with the structure of poems by changing line spacing, line length and
combining prose with poetryto create stanza paragraphs. They often tested different ways by which
to convey their messages by playing with syntactic organization and line breaks. William Carlos
Williams, perhaps best known for his experimentation with line breaks and sentence structure,
avidly experiments with the effects produced by the alteration of lines and sentences. In his poem
To a Poor Old Woman, Williams writes the same sentence: They taste good to her four times
within his poem, but changes which word of the sentence receives the emphasis each time the
sentence appears (235). The first time we encounter the sentence it can be read straight through in
the same way one would speak it and we see that the plums taste good to the old woman. The
following line stops after the word good and leaves the rest of the sentence for the beginning of the
following line. This brings emphasis to the subjectof the sentence, the woman, and receives further
weight as the sentence begins again within the same line to her. They taste. The sentence then ends
on the final line of the stanza that stresses the word good as the opening word of the line. This line
concludes with the word her which

The entire documentary itself is a narration. Due to the documentary being in the format of a
narration, it set up the entire film to incorporate anecdotes and other modes of discourse.
Through the use of anecdotes of multiple activists throughout the entire film, specifically the
one on Daniel McGowan, the viewer is able to get a good idea of how far these people are
willing to go for their cause. For example, Daniel was telling his story of his last operation with
the ELF, and he had to put gasoline around the entire house and in all of the vehicles which are
hooked up to an explosive device. Daniel knew about the consequences of this action and yet he
still went forth with it. His passion for the cause he was fighting for was greater than life itself
which is Curry s main claim. This then leads into the cause and effect portion of the
documentary. Within every action, Daniel considered the consequences, but he ended up
completed the task at hand regardless of the after effects. Daniel is now labeled as a terrorist as
he faces 7 years in prison, but to Daniel, this is all worth it as he believes he has made an impact
for his cause that fought for the preservation of the environment. Another aspect of cause and effect
would be the increase of harsh force used by authorities. At first, the protest led by the activists

Intel Defense On Depth Strategy Analysis
Intel Defense in Depth Strategy Analysis Introduction As information systems become
progressively more complex, attackers also develop increasingly sophisticated attacks that
threaten the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of these systems. Consequently,
Information Technology (IT) security has become crucial to the survivability of the business.
Companies may choose to employ safeguards to protect themselves from such threats, but what
happens if these controls fail? Incident Response Plans (IRPs) are often employed as a means to
mitigate and contain incidents when they occur, but their effectiveness is only as good as the
planning that goes into their development. In response to this need, Intel has devised a strategy
they refer to as Defense in Depth (DiDS). The DiDS is an enhanced IRP designed to optimize
security by using interlocking prediction, prevention, detection, and response capabilities
(Rosenquist, 2008). DiDS a security approach that strives to keep pace and even exceed the
efforts of attackers by proactively anticipating and reacting to threats while providing a feedback
loop to strengthen efforts after an incident has occurred. The goal of this paper is to analyze Intel s
DiDS as well as exhibit how an IT security manager might implement such a philosophy to address
what types of training, funding, and personnel resources it might take to implement this approach
successfully. Defense in Depth Before an assessment can be made, we first need

Kindness is the act of being friendly or generous to others. We as people can choose to hurt or
help people by our actions, but most of us choose to help. When we are kind, we don t take
advantage of our power, we want to comfort, encourage and strengthen those around us. In the
article, The Science of Good Deeds the author states that, kindness is a key ingredient that
enhances positivity and helps children feel good about themselves as it increases serotonin

consequences. Many of their coworkers at the circus die because of their reckless relationship. Also,
Celia and Marco put the competition, the circus, in jeopardy because their relationship can ruin the

the circus, but for another reason. She does her best to explain her concern. That there is more
going on with the circus than most people are privy to (Morgenstern 262). The book then
continues to explain Tara s skepticism, and then Tara decides to investigate. Poppet and Tara
both been affected by their investigations of the circus. Poppet wants to find more answers to not
be depressed, but she does not like that she invades people s privacy to get her answers. Tara s
search affected her way differently than Poppet s, and Tara s search lead to her being careless.
Her carelessness eventually led to her demise because she was investigating and then got hit by a
train. Poppet and Tara Burgess are two of the large amount of people who are on a search for

those searches should not allow you to fall in love with a life long adversary.

Reflective Essay In English
The language that I first learned to speak at home was English. My family, considering my
father s side of the family is Mexican, has always loved the Mexican culture. They love the food,
the music, the history, and the language. When my parents learned about an elementary school
that was able to teach me both English and Spanish, they jumped at the opportunity to enroll me,
and later my sister, into the school. My parents made it a priority that my sister and I enroll
because they were never able to learn how to speak, read, write, or understand Spanish very well,
so they wanted us to have this fantastic opportunity. They also decided to enroll us so that we are
able to talk with our family members who live in Mexico that speak no English at all. Although I
was too young at the time to ask to be enrolled into that school, with my knowledge now I know
that I definitely would have advocated for that to happen.
Throughout my life, school has played a critical role in increasing my knowledge about the target
language and about the culture of the target language. Because my parents do not speak Spanish,
they were not able to help my advancement in the language as much as they and I would have liked
them to. They did, however, make a fantastic effort to teach me as much as they knew about the
Mexican culture. Being in a school with an immersion program has aided my development
immensely. In elementary school, having to speak Spanish throughout my whole day was one of

I was amazed at the size of the building.

Edm Songs Analysis
Top 10 Best Electronic Dance Music Songs of June MusicSnake One of the newest types of

summer: Number Ten: Break Free by Ariana Grande feat. Zedd This song is quite a different
style for pop princess Ariana Grande, who is much more used to having traditional pop and some
R B influences in her tracks. Her collaboration with Russian and German producer Zedd is
arguably one of the best songs off of her sophomore album My Everything (2014) because it has
stood the test of time and is still frequently played on the radio today. The chorus is incredibly

However, in my opinion, Gomez does a far better job than Grande with this transition. While
Ariana Grande s voice may technically be far superior, Gomez s voice is definitely more suited
for this particular style. This song falls under the more stereotypical, party themed EDM song,
but is still a great track nonetheless. The fun and playful lyrics of this song include I want you
to know that it s our time / You and me bleed the same light / I want you to know that I m all
yours / You and me are the same force. Number Five: Cool by Alesso feat. Roy English Out of all
of the songs that I discovered at Coachella, this is definitely my favorite. One of the reasons that
this song is so incredible is because it contains so many different electronic melodies that greatly
surprise the listener upon first hearing the track. In addition, this record is an excellent EDM
song because the tempo varies greatly throughout, yet the listener is always engaged. Roy
English sings lyrics such as Before you, love, I was lost / Drifting at sea / You were the beacon I
followed home / You were the one who rescued me that add a romantic aspect to the song as well.

Today, I am writing my college essay, an essay that has my very future on the precipice of
success and mediocrity, on surfing. If someone had told me five days ago this would be my
topic, I would have applied to the first dead end job that crossed my path. What did I know about

my first time touching a surfboard I have ridden my first wave and gotten my first mouthful of
sand. The glorious part is that every time I touch that board I get the biggest, and goofiest, smile on

Social Taboos In Washington Irving s The Legend Of Sleepy...
Social taboos have taken a decline over the years. Writers have developed their writing topics over
the past years given that social subjects have changed. American literature has matured and become
more known for the topics that are written about now compared to what they use to be. Writings
that were written by many famous authors show the changes in literature over time.
In Washington Irving s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, the small rural community did not react well
to outsiders and their ways of life. Brom Bones is a quite mysterious and mischievous man
compared to how the Puritans and early colonists in North America behaved. Washington Irving
was able to openly write about fictional literature without such writing being considered a social
taboo (Irving). However, in Jonathan Edwards s famous sermon, Sinners in the Hands of An
Angry God, people were strongly encouraged to live a devoted life to God not necessarily
because they wanted to be a good person, but because if they did not, they would go to hell.
Unconverted men walk over the pits of hell on a rotten covering, stated Jonathan Edwards
(Edwards). Similarly, Irving used supernatural figures in his stories to make them more interesting,

The Rights Of Human Rights And Animal Rights
Animals are not suppose to be used as food, clothing, entertainment, experimentation or any other
purpose and that animals deserve consideration and what is in their best interests. Animal right is a
movement that tends to protect animals from being used and abuse by humans. This includes the
use of animals for anything that causes them pain and suffering, such as medical experiments,
imprisonment in circuses and zoos, and fur production. Animalrights support the idea that all
animals are to be treated humanely and away from pain, suffering or murder. They shouldn t be
used as food, fur or entertainment. Animal rights seek to promote treatment of living beings
through legislation, protest campaigns, research public events and other techniques such as
celebrity spokesman ship. Animals are also the creatures living on earth with us. If people say
animals should be killed and served us as food, then why don t we eat human? Human have the
same nutrition that could be served, there s no point to say that killing human is criminal but
killing animal is legal. Animals have the right to live in condition that in benefit and satisfy their
nature needs, which include freedom, enough space and environment. But people draw negative
attention to animal related issue; they give out the wholly false information. For example on
one website there was a picture of some sheep gathered into a holding yard and the caption said
that, this is now sheep live all the time. They totally fail to mention the green field in the picture,
with no doubt, it is where the sheep will not be returned once they have been sheared, or even
killed. In today s society, people create some organization for fighting their government toward
freedom and rights. They are fortunate because they have ability to speak for themselves. How
about animals? People are always taking advantages from animals by killing and entertaining, and
sadly they don t have a voice to fight against it. Some of you might say, if animals cannot be killed
for food, everyone will need to become vegetarian, and getting the right amount of protein per day
will be more difficult. And from the traditional Christian view, they also think that god has created
animals for the use of

The Black Death And The Bubonic Plague
The Black Death or the bubonic plague was one of the most devastating pandemics in human
history, resulting in the deaths of an estimated 75 to 200 million people and peaking in Europe
in the years 1346 53. The black death first appeared in Europe in 1347 in Sicily, the disease was
most likely brought to Europe on a ship that had been trading on the black sea. The black plague
was carried by flea infested rodents and spread rapidly. Almost half of Europe was killed by the
bubonic plague.
So much death could not help but tear economic and social structures apart. With a significantly
smaller class of peasants workers and skilled laborers, wages kept stagnant by law and custom
for generations, soared. The value of agricultural land, formerly fertile but now fallow,
plummeted. This is probably the first time in history the scales tipped against wealthy landlords as
peasants gained more bargaining power. Many trained architects, masons, and artisans were from
because of the plague, there was too much work and not enough workers. This caused work wages
to double and social status balanced out and became less rigid.
Commerce stopped. Foreign ships usually welcomed were now viewed as importing death and
barred from docking. Even trips to the local market became rare. At the beginning, inns and taverns
from those who fled and those who frolicked did well, until their owners and workers too
succumbed to the disease and became yet more abandoned buildings.

Deforestation Regulations Of The Tropics Essay
Deforestation Regulations in the Tropics
48 football fields. Not monthly, not even daily. 48 football fields worth of tropical rainforest is
cut down every single minute. This adds up to about 46 58 thousand square miles per year. 58
thousand square miles of the already narrow belt of tropical forests stretching around the equator.
These are forests of amazing diversity and productivity. Forests that may cover only 7% of the
land s surface here on Earth, but harbor more than half of all species and play a massive part in
maintaining the carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere and regulating our climate. Advocates for
the preservation of these forests state that deforestation has devastating consequences including
social conflict, extinction of plants and animals, and dangerous climate changes, and that local
deforestation in these forests are causing damages that aren t just local, but global. While
opponents claim that tropical forests are destined to diminish as it is necessary for the growing
human population to clear the natural landscape to make room for farms and pastures, to harvest
timber for construction and fuel, to build roads and urban areas and to develop the economies of
the often poor countries that surround the equator. Recent research has however repeatedly proven
these statements wrong. Showing how the human population have no desperate need to cut down
these forests, and that we are in fact more prone to make our own situation worse when we do.

The book covers an interesting subject matter that many people are not aware of. Stephen
Mansfield does very well in evaluating the different elements of Lincoln s faith, as well as his

afterlife, a resurrection, death became oppressive, a horrid obliteration looming at the end of his
days (46). I loved how Mansfield talking about topics not commonly discussed, like death.
However, despite Mansfield offering tons of information to the readers, his work began to
become very repetitive. While repetition is a tool for some writers in emphasizing some elements
in their work, I feel Mansfield could have done without some repetition. To me, some important
points were passed over by ideas that were constantly being repeated. Because of this I felt I was
looking passed other points that Mansfield was trying to make, simply because of the continuous

This measure abstracts extent of diffusion in the network (Abrahamson and Rosenkopf 1997). A
dummy variable called heterogeneous knowledge distribution is created with a value of 1 when
the distribution of knowledge is heterogeneous, and 0 when the distribution is homogeneous.
Further, we model accessibility signals as 0/1 dummy variables where 0 indicate no use of a
signal and 1 indicates the use of a signal. Likewise, a dummy variable called global reputation
mechanism is created which is 1 when the reputation mechanism is global, and is 0 when the
reputation mechanism is local. Also, we input the inverse number of questions that each agent can
answer per round of simulation as the measure of its time constraint (low 1/10, high 1/5). Finally,
we use the parameter value of network density (0.3, 0.7) as the network density variable s value in
our OLS model.
Table 1 reports the beta coefficients of accessibility signal dummy in each of the eight blocks

Impact Of Romanticism In The Late Victorian Age
I was a man who stood in the symbolic relations to the art and culture of my age. 1
The late Victorian age saw a revolution in the sphere of art and literature. John Ruskin, Matthew
Arnold, Walter Pater, and Oscar Wilde were among the most influential art and literary critics of
the yellow nineties. They baffled the British opinion with their brand new stance on literature,
paintings, and sculptures. They turned criticism into a new form of art, which redefined and
theorised art as well as literature. Their new theories were utterly modern and absolutely new for
the period, which has come to be known as the English Renaissance. This English Renaissance of

Religion And Political Power On A Great Nation
Religion and Political Power Giving Rise to a Great Nation
Religions played one of the most important factors in the Mexican history, ever since the Spanish
conquest, colonialization, independence, revolution, la reforma, and it is still present now a
days. Most of the Mexican population is considered catholic as a result of hundreds of years of
the Catholic influence. Religious and the church led to many confrontations in Mexican history,
such as the Mexican revolution where the main flag was the figure of virgin de Guadalupe.
Politics and the distribution of power also rose as an important issue since the first years as an
independent nation. Porfirio Diaz had a major role in changing the nation s vision and direction as
well as the huge inequality among classes. When it comes to centralized power, distribution of
power and the different ideas of ruling the country did not only lead to modernization of Mexico
but also the led to the Mexican revolution. Religion and politics played important roles in
Mexican history, which had the led a carbon print in the way that Mexicans live today. Based on
the different readings through the semester on politics and religion, I found those two topics to be
crucial in the direction of the country. Religion is one of the strongest legacies that the Spaniard
led to the Mexican culture was the Catholic religion that is practiced by most of Mexicans today.
The influence of the church in the Mexicans can be seen since Hernan Cortes arrived

Challenger Disaster-Pathos And Logos Healed A Nation
Pathos and Logos Healed a Nation
The Challenger Disaster happened January 28th, 1986. Ronald Reagan delivered a speech
emphasizing the nation s strength and to honor the 7 crew members who died. President Ronald
Reagan s Challenger Disaster speech shows a confident and somber state of the nation regarding
the Challenger that went down. In his speech he justifies that everything is okay and to honor those
who died. The Challenger Disaster effectively repairs the nation with it s tone, rhetorical appeals,
and rhetorical tools.
Ronald Reagan s tone is somber but he confidently explains the impact to the nation with the
ability to recover and become stronger. A quote from the speech that displays the somber tone is,
Today is a day of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One rhetorical tool he used in his speech was negative connotation. We lost three astronauts in a
terrible accident on the ground (paragraph 2) , this was a negative event that happened but it
didn t stop us. As a nation we weren t easily fazed and that can be cruel because then we think
nothing can go wrong for us, It s hard to dazzle us (paragraph 4) . The negative connotation in
this speech brings out the somber tone. He confidently speaks about each of these things even
though they are sad. He doesn t let the negative connotation take away from the confident tone of
his speech. A second rhetorical tool he used was the use of pronouns to include the audience. He
is always using pronouns to make the audience feel like they are a part of it, we ve grown to
used to wonders in this century (paragraph 4) . We will never forget them, nor the last time we
saw them (paragraph 8) , he could have said he will never forget them but instead he said we and
that one word changes the whole idea of the statement. The second quote really expresses the
purpose of honoring the crewmembers. He uses a lot of pronouns in the speech to include the
audience, which brings together the tone of confidence and the purpose letting everyone know it
will be okay and that we will get through it together as a nation. Reagan s speech has a strong
message he achieved that through the use of rhetorical

Snow Fall Short Story

Snow Fall
KEVIN...JOHN! , I screamed as loud as I could, knowing well he won t hear me. The snow was too
thick. I was trapped and only my head was above the surface. Panic was setting in and I realized
I may not make it out alive. Just to think two days ago I was having the time of my life with my
best friends. It all began where there is no snow, in my home town of Tucson, Arizona. One week
before the accident we had all still been in school, talking our mouths off about what will be
doing for winter break. While everyone was bragging about some sunny beach on one side of the
nation, we were talking about the powder coated slopes of freezing cold Colorado. We had always

BOOM. What was that? John and I both said. Well you two noobs, thats a cannon, they re used
to create avalanches for powder and safety. Kevin said, proud that he had known something we

The Symposium And The Bhagavad Gita Essay
Paper Assignment 2 Prompt 1
When it comes to the subject of love and desire, it would seem that The Symposium and The
Bhagavad Gita disagree as to whether those qualities are beneficial to achieving spirituality or
detrimental. In the Symposium, Plato states that desire is part of the pathway to achieving
spirituality. By contrast, the unnamed author of the Bhagavad Gita seems to state that desire is an
obstacle in the pathway to achieving divinity. Their perspectives can seen through their texts that
connect of love to the divine, Plato s way of reaching divinity and the way of reaching divinity that
is mentioned in the Hindu scripture of The Bhagavad Gita. Through the readings of The Bhagavad
Gita and The Symposium, it is clear that love and desire seems to be a asset to fulfilling one s
divinity rather than an obstacle.
An important part of the subject is that in both The Symposium and The Bhagavad Gita, love is
seen as sort of a divine force. At the setting of the Symposium, Plato, through the speeches of the
other great minds at the Symposium, introduces the possible concepts that Love might be a God
that is one of the beautiful gods of all. However, according to Plato, love is neither a god nor
human, but He is a great spirit, Socrates. Everything classed as a spirit falls between god and
human (Plato 38). This quote is crucial to the rest of the content of The Symposium because by
saying that Love falls in between the status of gods and humans, Plato is able to

An Explication of Sharon Olds’ Poem, Feared Drowned Essay
An Explication of Sharon Olds Poem Feared Drowned.
Fear is an amazing emotion, in that it has both psychological as well as physiological effects on
the human body. In instances of extreme fear, the mind is able to function in a way that is
detached and connected to the event simultaneously. In Feared Drowned, Sharon Olds presents, in
six brief stanzas, this type of instance. Her sparse use of language, rich with metaphors, similes
and dark imagery, belies the horror experienced by the speaker. She closes the poem with a
philosophical statement about life and the after effects that these moments of horror can have on
our lives and relationships. The setting of the poem is a day at the ocean with the ... Show more

Throughout the poem, Olds use consonance sounds, particularly s w and z sounds, to recreate the
sounds of the surf, and perhaps even the sound of gasping for air. In this respect, even the very
sound of this poem reinforces its central idea of drowning.
In the third stanza, the speaker scans the swimmers emerging from the water, realizing that none
of them is her husband. The lack of emotion in her tone suggests that the speaker is experiencing
that state of simultaneous detachment and connection that often occurs in moments of intense
panic. The sense of foreboding is reinforced in the fourth stanza: Rocks stick out near the shore
like heads / Kelp snakes in like a shed black suit... One wonders if the shed black suit is meant to
be a symbol for typical funereal attire, perhaps the black suit the speaker fears she will bury her
husband in. It is not until the fifth stanza that the speaker s body belies her fear and shock with a
natural physiological response: My stomach begins to contract as if to / vomit salt water.
As her husband emerges from the surf in the last stanza, the tone of the poem switches from one of
darkness and fear, to one that is philosophical: Once you lose someone

Are there benefits in using the premium versus regular unleaded gasoline?
If you were to ask a dozen different people if they believe there are benefits to premium versus
regular gasoline, you may hear varying answers. Many people will say premium is better but may
not be able to explain why. Truth is, many car owners follow the manual or just buy premium or

To make the right decision for your vehicle, let s break down the differences between premium and
regular unleaded gasoline.

Historical Events That Occurred During Europe During The...
There were many historical events that occurred in Europe during the sixteenth century. At this
time, Europe was not very virtuous and respectable. This is because at this time, the Protestant
Revolt nearly destroyed the Catholic Church. In addition to this, European politics were
compromised by religious struggles which laid the foundation for the Thirty Years War. Though
there were numerous events that occurred in sixteenth century Europe that are worth noting, this
essay will focus on three individuals who heavily influenced history in the West. The essay will not

During this war, he saw this as a chance for France to develop as a Christian country, both Catholic

Richelieu s behalf, from a Catholic viewpoint, the Cardinal did not fulfill his position as a
Catholic in truly advancing the Catholic faith in France not Protestantism. Instead of making
France a united Catholic country as it once was prior to the Revolt, he decided to make France
both Catholic and Protestant. Instead of fulfilling his vocation as a priest, he really acted as a
Prime Minister in France. Thus, again, failing to make France a Catholic nation. France was

can derail or destroy an otherwise important project. One risk may be that management assumes
that a system that works miracles for another organization may not be appropriate for our

Why Did Latin American Culture Change
Nueva Granada, now known as Colombia, covered a vast majority of northwest South America.
Until Spain colonized Nueva Granada, the individual tribes had successful government and social
structures. Once colonized, the daily life of the people of New Granada was completely changed.
The changes in every aspect of their lives can be shown by looking at how Colombiawas before,
during, and after its colonization. Colombia is a country on the northwest coast of South America.
Colombia shares a border with Venezuela, Brazil, Peru, Ecuador, and Panama. The Caribbean Sea

  • 2. The Hollywood Sign Analysis The Hollywood sign: fantasy and reality of an American icon by Leo Braudy and Videoland: movie culture at the American video store by Daniel Herbert are two scholarly works that analyze the importance of place within various aspects of the entertainment industry. In The Hollywood Sign, Braudy provides a comprehensive history and analysis of the famous Hollywood Signand successfully describes both the physical and metaphorical significance of the icon. Through use of factual information, chronologically presented history, and all inclusive analysis, Braudy shows us that the unapproachable but highly visible nature of the sign has created a sense of prestige and glamour in the minds of those who seek it out, and this has continually allowed business people to take advantage of those who wish to engage with it. Videoland uses a similar method of analysis to posit ideas about the humble video store; the work argues that its past existence as a physical place facilitated interaction between browsers and clerks, while also maintaining a metaphorical significance in that its store geography shaped the browser s perception of movies. While the Hollywood Sign exists as one place that can be interpreted in various ways, video stores exist (or used too) as many places whose layout crafts an experience for the consumer, leaving no room for interpretation. In their respective works, Braudy argues that the metaphorical idea of the Hollywood sign contributed to the physical development of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Rescinding Job Offer Case Study Employer May Have Violated ADA By Rescinding Job Offer On August 24th, 2015, the 10th Circuit Court of Appeal reversed a lower District Court ruling in Wyoming that found an employer not in violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) for rescinding a job offer to a disabled employee. The reversal operates to clarify under what circumstances employers must make reasonable accommodations to disabled employees within the meaning of the ADA. Complaints under the ADA in relation to disability are one of the top complaints against employers, totaling over 25,000 complaints in 2014 alone. As such, it is a serious issue to which employers should give proper notice and take steps to address within the workplace. The ADA requires employers... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is expected that the ruling will operate to permit disabled individuals expanded opportunities within healthcare fields. This ruling is important to employers, especially those in healthcare, who must be aware of their duties to provide reasonable accommodations to employees where there is no significant safety risk. That a disabled individual is working within the healthcare industry is insufficient in and of itself to demonstrate a safety risk, as are obscure and unlikely risks that may be articulated by an employer. Thus, employers must be sure to provide the reasonable accommodation unless they can demonstrate an actual significant safety risk, or risk liability for failing to do so. If you are an employer and are unsure if you are required under the ADA to provide a reasonable accommodation to an employee, or are facing a claim by an employee for failing to provide an accommodation, please contact Marc Zimet at Jampol Zimet, LLP at (213) 689 8500 or at mzimet@jzlaw.com. PepsiCo 210 F.3d 88 (2d Cir.2000)* In 1996 PepsiCo advertising campaign launched, through which consumer who collected epmty Pepsi containers could earn Pepsi Points that could be redeemed for bikes, jacket, cups, and other such merchandise. During this compaign, PepsiCo let the television commercial in rotation, showcasing a number of the items being offered. This argumentative ad showed a suburban teen preparing for school and wearing some Pepsi Stuff (sunglasses, t shirt), as the items/stuff were depicted, numbers at the bottom of the screen revealed how many Pepsi Points they cost. In an agreement there must be a meeting of the minds, which indicates mutual assent by both parties. There is no meeting of the minds when one side (PepsiCo) is obviously joking. Another issue, which was the case in court, is that John Leonard s understanding of this commercial as an offer must also be rejected because the New York Court found out that no objective person (while Mr. Leonard is a subjective person) could reasonably have concluded that the commercial actually offered consumers a Harrier Jet. In a basic rule of contracts mentioned, that whether an offer has been made depends on the objective reasonableness of the alleged offeree s belief that the advertisement or solicitation was intended as an offer. Reasonable Person Standard based on common rules, and in relation to society is an objective, so according to this standard if it is clear that an offer was not serious, then no offer has been made. In this case objective reasonable standard notes only how resonable persons behave, and what their reaction. While seriousness determines whether, in our case commercial, is real and serious, and may be perceived as an offer. As it was mentioned before, PepsiCo s commercial had no offer, and advertising are not serious. Moreover the Court found this television commercial an absurd. Any reasonable person can t take all the actions, that take place in this television commercial, and the plot, seriously, due to the following facts: 1) Second, the ... • 5. Queen V Dudley and Stephens There are many possibilities and options I could have taken if I were in Dudley s shoes. Murder Parker, and feed on him; ask for Parker s consent to kill and consume him; take a vote, or a lottery and then feed on the selected one, assuming there was consensus to the vote or lottery and to its outcome. However, if I had a choice, there would have been no murder, but perhaps an act of cannibalism, if say the boy, Parker, died naturally. Using Kant s categorical imperative, I believe that murder, in any way, aside from self defense, is morally wrong. Kant s categorical imperative refers to the supreme principle of morality whereby it is morally essential that we adhere to this principle in all circumstances, independent of whether or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since I have already proven that the killing of Parker was intended murder in the previous paragraph, this shows that through the murder, Parker s rights to live was deprived. He, being a young boy of seventeen, eighteen, would have his own aspirations and dreams and he was deprived of that right to live and fulfill those dreams, just because he was weaker than the other three men. Furthermore, he was not consulted at all about his death. This will be discussed in the later paragrah. The rights of human beings therefore, are much more important than fulfilling the happiness of the stakeholders in this case, the family and friends of the men, the men themselves, the general public, and human right activists. In this situation, the four themselves would not want to die. For the three men, their families and friends would lose a loved one if any of them died. Assuming in those days, the father usually is the breadwinner of the family, losing him, would thus mean that the family would lose a source of income, and bread and butter on their table. This may lead to the mother having to work, or in a more severe situation, the children may have to work as well. Moreover, having a father figure in the family is important for a home to be wholesome. Losing Parker, on the other hand, will not have such consequences as he being an orphan would not ... The results on the percentages of attempts that resulted in the isolation of an intact embryo was 33%. This is due to the fact that this was the first time that I performed an embryo rescue, and made a few mistakes along the way. The first mistake that occurred was that I cut too deep into the endosperm, and cut into the embryo itself (a few times). Another mistake that was made was that I found it hard to cut into the seeds while using the forceps, without losing the seed. The percentage of intact embryos that developed into a plant was 33%, meaning the only one out of the three sprouted. The changes that occurs during the progression from dormant embryo to active growth is that the crown becomes a reddish color, which is that is appeared on most Wayfaringtree Viburnum. The red crown is due to the flavonoids that are apparent in the molecular structure. Since Wayfaringtree Viburnum has to go through the cold stratification to break dormancy, the mechanism practice that would have to take place would have to be a type of refrigeration or freezing process. Great leaders live among the masses; the quality of their service, humility, dedication, and selflessness distinguishes them from the populace. These great leaders are munificent men and women who are independent in their thinking. One such man, Nelson Mandela, delivered Acceptance and Nobel Lecture in 1993 for his contributions to the peaceful termination of the apartheid rule and for laying the foundations of a new democratic South Africa. • 10. Descartes First Meditation Essay Descartes First Meditation Rene Descartes decision to shatter the molds of traditional thinking is still talked about today. He is regarded as an influential abstract thinker; and some of his main ideas are still talked about by philosophers all over the world. While he wrote the Meditations , he secluded himself from the outside world for a length of time, basically tore up his conventional thinking; and tried to come to some conclusion as to what was actually true and existing. In order to show that the sciences rest on firm foundations and that these foundations lay in the mind and not the senses, Descartes must begin by bringing into doubt all the beliefs that come to him by the senses. (Pg60) He decides that he must not try to show that all of his opinions are false, which is perhaps something [he] could never accomplish (Pg59) but rather he should withhold [his] assent no less carefully from opinions that are not completely certain and indubitable that [he] would from those that are patently false. (Pg.59) By doing this he will tear down all the false ideologies that he holds, and be subject to only the opinions that he can prove to be absolutely and necessarily true. In the first meditation, Concerning those things that can be called into doubt , Descartes main goal is to distinguish what it is he can take to be true, and what supposed truths hold even the smallest degree of doubt. When he reviews all of his opinions he concludes eventually [he] is forced to admit that there is nothing among the things [he]believed to be true which it is not permissable to doubt and not out of frivolity or lack of forethought, but for valid and considered reasons. Thus [he] must be no less careful to withhold assent henceforth even from these beliefs then [he] would from those that are patently false, if [he wishes] to find anything certain. • 11. A Case For A Partnership Agreement 10. Kathleen and Jim are business partners at a consulting firm. Upon Jim s sudden death, his widow claims that she is entitled to a share of the firm s assets or should be able to take his Jims place as Kathleen s partner. Is she entitled to her claims? Why or why not? The outcome of this case depends on whether or not a partnership agreement was formed prior to the partner s death. If the partnership agreement wasn t formed, general partnership State statues will take default (Clarkson, 2015, p. 721). However, a partnership agreement will always override state laws. If the provisions allow the partnership to continue after a partner s death, the wife will be entitled to her husband s shares and if the provisions don t state otherwise she will also be able to take over his place in the firm (Wright, 2016). If a partnership agreement does not exist, most states will require a partnership to dissolve after a partner s death. The deceased partner s shares will be used to pay off any debts or obligations and the remainder funds will be distributed to the surviving partners (Wright, 2016). If the deceased partner includes his wife in his will, then a portion of the funds will be distributed to his wife after the dissolution. If his will is in probate, the funds will be distributed to his estate (Wright, 2016). A major disadvantage of not having a partnership agreement, is the risk of the spouse demanding her inheritance immediately (Wright, 2016). Since the partner s capital is ... It was also even more disturbing that 27% of scripts encountered a substantial problem at some point in the fulfilment process. It should also be noted that even though CVS grew at market rates, it was only because customers believed that no one provided great services and they thought it was difficult to switch from one pharmacy to another. Despite this, at the start of 200, approximately 7.2 million regular pharmacy customers left CVS during the year, causing CVS to lose an estimated 55 million annual prescriptions that would have contributed $2.5 billion to revenue. Violence and pain were perhaps the most avant garde elements of Ernst s art, and this perception is on full display in one of Ernst collages displayed during Breton s Paris Au Sans Pareil exhibition, The Preparation of Bone Glue. It depicts a diathermy process in which an electrical current treats joint ailments (Kavky 2012); his use of violence and pain as both cause and cure intensifies the victimization of the woman (Kavky 2012). The Preparation of Bone Glue is widely considered as an early example of Surrealist art, and Ernst s early work with the mentally ill provided significant influence into the troubled minds of some patients. Written while Smart was confined in a mental asylum for incessant praying, the aphoristic poem praises the cat Jeoffry, a faithfulservant to God. Unrestricted by rigid poetic structures, My Cat Jeoffry is nevertheless organized and coherent, ablaze with a current of religious fervour. • 23. William Carlos Williams A Poor Old Woman Poets of the 20th century often experimented with the rules of poetry and in doing so unmade, then remade the poem as we know it. Some followed Ezra Pound s advice to make it new. Modernist poets would experiment with the structure of poems by changing line spacing, line length and combining prose with poetryto create stanza paragraphs. They often tested different ways by which to convey their messages by playing with syntactic organization and line breaks. William Carlos Williams, perhaps best known for his experimentation with line breaks and sentence structure, avidly experiments with the effects produced by the alteration of lines and sentences. In his poem To a Poor Old Woman, Williams writes the same sentence: They taste good to her four times within his poem, but changes which word of the sentence receives the emphasis each time the sentence appears (235). The first time we encounter the sentence it can be read straight through in the same way one would speak it and we see that the plums taste good to the old woman. The following line stops after the word good and leaves the rest of the sentence for the beginning of the following line. This brings emphasis to the subjectof the sentence, the woman, and receives further weight as the sentence begins again within the same line to her. They taste. Intel Defense On Depth Strategy Analysis Intel Defense in Depth Strategy Analysis Introduction As information systems become progressively more complex, attackers also develop increasingly sophisticated attacks that threaten the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of these systems. Consequently, Information Technology (IT) security has become crucial to the survivability of the business. Companies may choose to employ safeguards to protect themselves from such threats, but what happens if these controls fail? Incident Response Plans (IRPs) are often employed as a means to mitigate and contain incidents when they occur, but their effectiveness is only as good as the planning that goes into their development. In response to this need, Intel has devised a strategy they refer to as Defense in Depth (DiDS). The Rights Of Human Rights And Animal Rights Animals are not suppose to be used as food, clothing, entertainment, experimentation or any other purpose and that animals deserve consideration and what is in their best interests. Animal right is a movement that tends to protect animals from being used and abuse by humans. This includes the use of animals for anything that causes them pain and suffering, such as medical experiments, imprisonment in circuses and zoos, and fur production. Animalrights support the idea that all animals are to be treated humanely and away from pain, suffering or murder. They shouldn t be used as food, fur or entertainment. Animal rights seek to promote treatment of living beings through legislation, protest campaigns, research public events and other techniques such as celebrity spokesman ship. Animals are also the creatures living on earth with us. If people say animals should be killed and served us as food, then why don t we eat human? Human have the same nutrition that could be served, there s no point to say that killing human is criminal but killing animal is legal. Animals have the right to live in condition that in benefit and satisfy their nature needs, which include freedom, enough space and environment. But people draw negative attention to animal related issue; they give out the wholly false information. For example on one website there was a picture of some sheep gathered into a holding yard and the caption said that, this is now sheep live all the time. They totally fail to mention the green field in the picture, with no doubt, it is where the sheep will not be returned once they have been sheared, or even killed. In today s society, people create some organization for fighting their government toward freedom and rights. They are fortunate because they have ability to speak for themselves. How about animals? People are always taking advantages from animals by killing and entertaining, and sadly they don t have a voice to fight against it. Some of you might say, if animals cannot be killed for food, everyone will need to become vegetarian, and getting the right amount of protein per day will be more difficult. And from the traditional Christian view, they also think that god has created animals for the use of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. The Black Death And The Bubonic Plague The Black Death or the bubonic plague was one of the most devastating pandemics in human history, resulting in the deaths of an estimated 75 to 200 million people and peaking in Europe in the years 1346 53. The black death first appeared in Europe in 1347 in Sicily, the disease was most likely brought to Europe on a ship that had been trading on the black sea. The black plague was carried by flea infested rodents and spread rapidly. Almost half of Europe was killed by the bubonic plague. So much death could not help but tear economic and social structures apart. With a significantly smaller class of peasants workers and skilled laborers, wages kept stagnant by law and custom for generations, soared. The value of agricultural land, formerly fertile but now fallow, plummeted. This is probably the first time in history the scales tipped against wealthy landlords as peasants gained more bargaining power. Many trained architects, masons, and artisans were from because of the plague, there was too much work and not enough workers. This caused work wages to double and social status balanced out and became less rigid. Commerce stopped. Foreign ships usually welcomed were now viewed as importing death and barred from docking. Even trips to the local market became rare. At the beginning, inns and taverns from those who fled and those who frolicked did well, until their owners and workers too succumbed to the disease and became yet more abandoned buildings. Not monthly, not even daily. 48 football fields worth of tropical rainforest is cut down every single minute. This adds up to about 46 58 thousand square miles per year. 58 thousand square miles of the already narrow belt of tropical forests stretching around the equator. These are forests of amazing diversity and productivity. Forests that may cover only 7% of the land s surface here on Earth, but harbor more than half of all species and play a massive part in maintaining the carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere and regulating our climate. Advocates for the preservation of these forests state that deforestation has devastating consequences including social conflict, extinction of plants and animals, and dangerous climate changes, and that local deforestation in these forests are causing damages that aren t just local, but global. While opponents claim that tropical forests are destined to diminish as it is necessary for the growing human population to clear the natural landscape to make room for farms and pastures, to harvest timber for construction and fuel, to build roads and urban areas and to develop the economies of the often poor countries that surround the equator. Recent research has however repeatedly proven these statements wrong. • 37. Lincoln s Battle With God Lincoln s Battle with God by Stephen Mansfield depicts Abraham Lincoln s lifelong relationship with religion. The book does an outstanding job of giving a generous background of Lincoln s religious journey. Personally, I chose the book because of the title. Seeing the name Lincoln s Battle with God just made me want to learn more about Lincoln s religious struggles throughout his life. Mansfield begins the book by talking about Lincoln s childhood and relationships with his mother and father, and how they impacted his life. I was interested by the influence Lincoln s parents had on him and how their relationships affected Lincoln s faith in the future. Lincoln even goes on to say that All that I am or hope ever to be I get from my mother.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Stephen Mansfield does very well in evaluating the different elements of Lincoln s faith, as well as his personal thoughts not discussed. A passage that I found interesting was Without belief in an afterlife, a resurrection, death became oppressive, a horrid obliteration looming at the end of his days (46). I loved how Mansfield talking about topics not commonly discussed, like death. However, despite Mansfield offering tons of information to the readers, his work began to become very repetitive. While repetition is a tool for some writers in emphasizing some elements in their work, I feel Mansfield could have done without some repetition. To me, some important points were passed over by ideas that were constantly being repeated. Because of this I felt I was looking passed other points that Mansfield was trying to make, simply because of the continuous repetition. If I were to recommend anything to Mansfield it would be to emphasize more on topics and ideas no one knows about rather than repeating the same ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Likewise, a dummy variable called global reputation mechanism is created which is 1 when the reputation mechanism is global, and is 0 when the reputation mechanism is local. Also, we input the inverse number of questions that each agent can answer per round of simulation as the measure of its time constraint (low 1/10, high 1/5). Impact Of Romanticism In The Late Victorian Age I was a man who stood in the symbolic relations to the art and culture of my age. 1 The late Victorian age saw a revolution in the sphere of art and literature. John Ruskin, Matthew Arnold, Walter Pater, and Oscar Wilde were among the most influential art and literary critics of the yellow nineties. They baffled the British opinion with their brand new stance on literature, paintings, and sculptures. They turned criticism into a new form of art, which redefined and theorised art as well as literature. Their new theories were utterly modern and absolutely new for the period, which has come to be known as the English Renaissance. • 42. Religion And Political Power On A Great Nation Religion and Political Power Giving Rise to a Great Nation Religions played one of the most important factors in the Mexican history, ever since the Spanish conquest, colonialization, independence, revolution, la reforma, and it is still present now a days. Most of the Mexican population is considered catholic as a result of hundreds of years of the Catholic influence. Religious and the church led to many confrontations in Mexican history, such as the Mexican revolution where the main flag was the figure of virgin de Guadalupe. Politics and the distribution of power also rose as an important issue since the first years as an independent nation. Porfirio Diaz had a major role in changing the nation s vision and direction as well as the huge inequality among classes. When it comes to centralized power, distribution of power and the different ideas of ruling the country did not only lead to modernization of Mexico but also the led to the Mexican revolution. The Symposium And The Bhagavad Gita Essay Paper Assignment 2 Prompt 1 When it comes to the subject of love and desire, it would seem that The Symposium and The Bhagavad Gita disagree as to whether those qualities are beneficial to achieving spirituality or detrimental. In the Symposium, Plato states that desire is part of the pathway to achieving spirituality. By contrast, the unnamed author of the Bhagavad Gita seems to state that desire is an obstacle in the pathway to achieving divinity. Their perspectives can seen through their texts that connect of love to the divine, Plato s way of reaching divinity and the way of reaching divinity that is mentioned in the Hindu scripture of The Bhagavad Gita. Through the readings of The Bhagavad Gita and The Symposium, it is clear that love and desire seems to be a asset to fulfilling one s divinity rather than an obstacle. An important part of the subject is that in both The Symposium and The Bhagavad Gita, love is seen as sort of a divine force. At the setting of the Symposium, Plato, through the speeches of the other great minds at the Symposium, introduces the possible concepts that Love might be a God that is one of the beautiful gods of all.
