Identity formation and point of view is affected by stereotypes and life circumstances. In S.E.
Hinton s The Outsiders circumstances and stereotypes makes the characters struggle with who
they are. The Outsiders is told from the point of view of Ponyboy. Ponyboy is golden and
unconcerned with stereotypes and through him we observed how the other characters are affected
by those stereotypes. The characters identity formations are delayed by stereotypes; greasers are
seen as dirty, low life hoodlums, and Socs are seen as rich kids with all the brakes. The life
experiences of the characters are explored throughout The Outsiders.

The cedar doors that he and Gilgamesh fastened on the exterior gates of Uruk taunt Enkidu,
reminded him of how he is responsible for his own fate, and his mistakes are his alone to make.
The cedar doors had been constructed to serve two purposes for Enkidu and Gilgamesh: as a
trophy of war celebrating their defeat of Humbaba, and as a means of securing their legacy by
contributing to the safety and grandeur of Uruk. Enkidu s spiteful tone towards these doors, then,
symbolizes dual aspects of humanity: the desire to dominate nature in order to facilitate creation,
and the eternal conflict between creators and their creations.
This first aspect of humanity revealed through Enkidu s interactions with the cedar door is the
process of dominating nature in order to create something grander. Enkidu s background is that of a
wild creature that became civilized in order to be Gilgamesh s equal. At different points in the epic,
Enkidu both civilizes Gilgamesh and encourages him towards restlessness and adventure.

The poem is an account of how the speaker pictured a funeral inside of her own mind. The poem
consists of an extended metaphor that explains aspects a typical funeral service that relates to the
loss of sanity in a speaker s mind. This comparison can explain Dickinson s own struggle to keep
her sanity in her time of voluntary seclusion from the rest of society. A disregard of the generally
accepted rules on capitalization and punctuation were commonly found throughout her works. In I

s mental state, which parallels to Emily Dickinsons own interior downfall after the constant

Didion. Both pieces address the relationship between the wind and the community, using rhetorical
devices to convey their views. Thomas presents a windthat is essential to nature. Didion, on the
