Marc Chagall Research Paper
Russian Art And Artist When people think of art they think of just drawings and different types
of paintings. Marc Chagall and Pablo Picasso, two out of the hundreds of artist, are some of the
most outstanding artist that have ever been discovered. Art classes only teach people to paint
and draw, but Chagall and Picasso taught more than thousands what true art is. Chagall had
three big masterpieces he worked on for a long time. Chagall and Picasso were big artist
because, Marc had three big masterpieces, Don Jose was Picasso Father, and Together Chagall

The painting represents the childhood of Chagall, which was the time he lived in Vitebsk,
Russia. Marc had kind of a rough childhood he was poor and he had troubles in his life. The
dreamy painting is from Russian landscapes and folk stories. When Folk stories are mentioned it
means a story or any kind of belief that has been passed down. Marc Chagall gave a story painted

of his life. He painted the picture in five different childhood stories (Marc). Next, In 1913

Buried Child Play Essay
Sam Shepherd s 1978 Buried child play introduces its audience to a dark, twisted plot revolving
around a family based in Illinois whose secrets are revealed. Shepard explores various themes such
as the conventional family and how within all nuclear families there is dysfunction, Religion and
how it s used as a coping mechanism and how the events of the past have significance in the
present. When interpreting and creating a performance based from the script various drama
conventions are utilised to ensure it s relevancy to today s audience is captured.
Design Project
The American Dream was a concept introduced in the 1950 s, Post World War 2. Moving forward
from the depression Eisenhower developed a unique rubric for America to follow that created a
whole new base of unrealistic, achievable expectations. America became one of the most
economically thriving countries, but due to an almost instantaneous advancement in technology, it
further fuelled corruption as a result of over consumption. Notions such as the nuclear family were
important to individuals. The fantasy of having a perfect, functional family was an aspiration for
most families as it resembled success and superiority within their community. Luxurious living was
considered a major necessity in the same category as basic human requirements i.e Food, Shelter,
Clothing. Sam Shepard rejects this notion as he shows that there is always challenges and disorder
associated with relationships, especially between the

The relationship and interaction between XML and databases
ECET610 UMUC
Abstract
This paper will explore the relationship between XML and databases and the way that they can be
leveraged to provide data exchange on the internet. As XML gains popularity as the format for
exchanging information via the internet and has become the language of choice for use in database
development for Internet use.Introduction
XML is a universal data standard and thereby does not need to be translated for use in different
database systems. This is very important with large corporate data systems. In companies that have
web presence this is a vital concern where some of the data base systems are handled by external
companies that use an entirely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This presents a scalability problem in that when the system contains a few thousand documents the
performance tends to degrade and become a management issue. Synchronization is also a problem
between the non database code and the database. If changes are made to the database structure the
XML pointers need to be updated as well and the system is not very portable.
The XML mapping style of data storage is used by web sites that map user inputs into XML
schema that manages the storage and retrieval of the data as shown in the example Figure 1. This
is an effective method when the existing data is in XML format.
Using XML to simplify processes
The flexibility of XML has made it the standard for the formatting and sharing of data via the web.
XML data is easily transferable across machines and applications and is not constrained by the
operating system of the host machine. This ease of translation enables XML to be transformed into
non XML formats for use with databases and their associated applications.
An XML database is a database that stores the data fields in XML format. This allows for cross
platform transferability and web page presentation. A web application is typically done in three
layers the back office code in Java or a

The Effects Of Obesity On Public Health
Introduction
Obesity is a traditionally first world health problem that is a growing concern throughout the world
because of its negative effects on public health as well as the wider economy.
According to both the WHO and the NHS, an individual s Body Mass Index (BMI), is an
imperfect, yet effective tool for measuring obesity. The WHO definition has determined that a BMI
of 25 29.9 is classified as being overweight, whereas a BMI of 30 34.9 is considered to be a sign of
obesity (World Health Organization, 2014).The NHS goes on to add that it is useful to consider
an individual s waist circumference as fit and muscular people can also have a relatively high
BMI without an excess of fat, and classifies men and women with waist circumferences of 90cm
and 80cm respectively as being at risk for obesity related health conditions (Nhs.uk, 2014).
Obesity must be dealt with early and at the local level. In the London borough of Hammersmith
and Fulham, 20.1% of year 6 children are classified as obese, high compared to the national
average of 18.9%. Conversely, only 13.3% of adults in this borough are obese, much fewer than the
national average of 23.0% (Public Health England, 2014). This high prevalence of childhood
obesity exists despite the area doing well with traditional indicators such as physical activity and
uptake of school lunches. An unpublished 2012 report explained that the greatest risk factors found
were eating practices and familial obesity, although depravity,

Cyclical Argument In Plato s Phaedo
In Plato s dialogue, the Phaedo, he gives a description of the immortality of the soul. He does this
through a series of arguments. His first argument, known as the Cyclical Argument, is that
everything comes to be from out of its opposite. The second argument, known as the Recollection
Argument, asserts that learning is essentially an act of recollecting things we knew before we were
born but then forgot. The third argument, known as the Affinity Argument, distinguishes between
those things that are immaterial, invisible, and immortal, and those things that are material, visible,
and perishable. His fourth argument, known as the Final Argument, is that the soulcan be called the
cause of life. I do not agree Platoprovided a good argument for the Immortality of the Soul.... Show

One criticism of this argument is that death is contrary to life, but its contradictory opposite. It is
impossible for something to be both dead and alive, but it is possible for something to be neither
dead nor alive. Socrates also refers to being alive and being dead as opposites, but this pair is
rather different from comparative states such as larger and smaller, since something can t be
deader, but only dead. Being alive and being dead are what logicians call contraries. Some
contemporary commentators have maintained that the argument relies on covertly shifting between
these different kinds of opposites. Does the principle about balance, for instance, necessarily apply
to living things? Couldn t all life simply cease to exist at some point, without returning? How does
Plato account for adding new living souls to the human

Creature Monologue
PROLOGUE
Before our existence there were horrible, terrifying creatures called Monsters. Theses creatures
may have been monstrous but they were not soulless. Savage indeed but not without morals. These
so called monsters may not have lived lawlessly but they lived with a love like no other. Then
when man was made from earth and women from bone, everything changed. The beasts of this
earth were slaughtered and forced into hiding into the wilderness. They were treated them like
hideous beasts and so they became just that. They fled into the undiscovered wilderness. With man
as king the beasts were forced to stay at bay.

moment was a new feeling, as they gained on the witch. Sweat poured from his face,
determination. They surrounded the hag, spears, swords and crossbows at the ready. As the
gray faced, paled skin and snow white eyes gazed upon the hunters, Jeremiah felt the new
feeling, not fear, nor bravery. The abominus fien lifted her hand and the trees around them
reached down and the branches of the trees swooped down like hands, and grabbed the necks of
the men and broke them. Jeremiah was alone surrounded by the bodies of his best men. He rose
to his feet and in a action of rage and bravery, grasped his sword and charged the sorcerer. The
foul creature stopped his movement and held him in place, saying to him in a crimson voice
death is too easy for you . Jeremiah was at the mercy of evil. At that moment, the malevolent

Confederate Flag Essay
A Confederate battle flag once flew over the statehouse of South Carolina. The flag was hoisted
above the building in 1961, amid the era of social equality reforms. After over 50 years of being
flown above the statehouse, the flag was removed on July 10, 2015. According to the New York
Times: The final vote in the State House of Representatives, 94 to 20, was well above the two
thirds majority required to move the bill to the desk of Gov. Nikki R. Haley, a Republican who
called for the flag to come down after the massacre last month at the Emanuel African Methodist
Episcopal Church in Charleston. Indisputably, a great tragedy was inflicted upon the people of
Charleston, South Carolina. Indisputably, nine innocent people were murdered in a prayer service
on the evening of June 17, 2015. The suspected perpetrator of this massacre is twenty one year old,
and South Carolina native, Dylan Roof. A website was discovered that contained 60 images

To help narrow this divide, the confederate flag and any other symbols with possible racist
connotations should be removed from the public world as much as possible. The main argument
that confederate flag supporters tend to have is the fact that the flag is a symbol of heritage for
southerners. However, if one were to look at the history of the United States, one would realize that
the Confederacy was formed in opposition to the abolition of the institution of slavery. The
Confederates believed in a cause that they were willing to fight and possibly die for, and that
cause was one of enslaving fellow humans. One has to look no farther than the declaration of
secession by the confederate states, Mississippi s declaration states

Reality And Fiction The True View
Reality and Fiction: the True View 1 Reality and Fiction: the True View Americans rely a great deal
on their entertainment to educate them about life. In many ways Americans live vicariously
through the experiences of fictional characters and believe themselves to learn many things from
fictional characters. For example, many persons have said they learned CPR by watching medical
shows on televisionor believe they can assist in a medical emergency because they have seen experts
on television handle similar situations.
This same belief extends to Americans knowledge about the law and the judicial system of the
nation. There are many things that fictional accounts of lawyers, judges, and courts confuse or

The same kind of good evil scenario between the defense attorney and prosecutor s office is also
evident in the television show Law Order. Although that show does not often portray one side as
only good or only bad, there have been times when it has created defense attorney characters who
have taken advantage of the law to force the system to completely exonerate their clients, which
makes them appear to be evil people who are cheating justice. Reality and Fiction: the True View
3 The reality of attorneys on opposing sides of a case is that they are seldom easily identified as
good or evil persons and just because they are working for the defense or the prosecution does
not indicate the type of person they are (Steinberg). Both are expected to act legally and both
have pressures on them that affect their work and who they are. Simply the side they represent
does not alone affect the kind of person they are. As to how they try their cases, attorney ethical
codes require attorneys to zealously pursue their case for the benefit of their client to the extent
the law allows (ABA). This means that if a defense attorney sees an opportunity for his client to be
set free then he or she must use it because that is their job. It is the job of the prosecutor to assure
the defense does not have those opportunities. Again, this does not reflect on the quality of their
character. The same thing can also

Ethnography Dancing Skeletons
Ethnography Dancing Skeletons; Life and Death in West Africa Response: I found Katherine
A. Dettwyler s, Dancing Skeletons; Life and Death in West Africa very interesting though I did
not like the way in which it was written. To me it was written in a very scattered brain way,
similar to how a hyperactive childs diary would look like. At times when Dettwyler was trying to
explain something, she would go into tangents, mostly about her own personal opinions of the
topic, which ruined the mood of the book, lessened the impact of whatever she was talking about
at the time and frankly, it just annoyed me. I found it difficult to understand what was trying to
be said and it made it difficult to read. I think if she didn t try to cover so much in such a small
book malnutrition, female circumcision and other random topics I would have enjoyed it more.
One thing that I did like was how she wasn t political on her trips to Mali, she just talked to
people. She didn t preach just talk and I think that s what helped improve these people s lives. It
was interesting but I wouldn t read it again or recommend it like I did for the Spirit Catches You
and You Fall Down. Main Points: Though Dettwyler was scatterbrained, I did recognize some of
her main points for writing this book. Her main points were to show the importance of nutritional
health and how there are many ways to help people and the best way to achieve this was to take a
holistic approach and proper education. When the CARE

Cyber Bullying Is Not A New Phenomenon
Producing Danger
Bullying in school is not a new phenomenon; it is as old as the education system. In texts as ancient
as the Bible examples are explicit and evident. Throughout the ages bullying has been a tragic and
catastrophic element that seems inevitable as it affects the lives of its victims. The fundamental
purpose of a school is to educate and coach children in their emotional, cognitive, civic, vocational,
and social development. On the contrary, however, schools are generating cutthroat, cruel, and
isolated environments as oppressive social hierarchies are formed to comply with stereotypical
gender traits. From ancient times to present day, bullying has always taken place. It may be

The Story of Joseph, in the book of Genesis, struck me as a primeval example of bullying dating
back to 5th century BCE. Joseph was the 11th son of Jacob and was born to Jacob s favorite
wife, Rachel. At the age of 17, Joseph was a shepherd alongside 11 of his brothers. His father,
Jacob, displayed much more love to Joseph than any of his other sons, so much so that he gave
Joseph a one of a kind coat of many colors (Genesis 37:23). The other brothers were jealous of
Joseph and distained him. Joseph only further provoked this hatred when he told his brothers
about two of his dreams he had of the family. The brother s tolerance only lasted so long. When
the brothers saw him alone in a field, they plotted to kill him. When Joseph approached, they
tore off his special coat and threw him into a pit. His brother, Judah, came up with the idea to sell
Joseph into slavery. The brothers then dipped his coat into goat blood brought it back to Jacob.
Jacob recognized the coat and concluded that a beast had killed his son, while in reality; he was in
a caravan heading towards Egypt.
There is no denying the raised awareness about bullying today than in past years. Although bullying
has always existed, only recently has it been systematically measured. It was only in the 1980 s
when Dan Olweus conducted initial studies on Norwegian and Swedish students. This account of

For many years Americans have consumed caffeine and sometimes after consuming it feel both
cognitive and physically different. In past reports caffeine is documented as a stimulant and it
provides alertness (Ruxton 2008), however, the question presently is, how does it affects the
cognitive learning and memory functions? How much does a person need to consume to feel the
different stimuli from the caffeine? Even though earlier studies have yet to illustrate a correlation
between caffeine use and increased memory it is widely assumed in the social media and everyday
life that it does. The recent years have brought us from just coffee with either sugar, milk or both, to

individuals who do not regularly consume caffeine. (Childs and de Wit, 2006, p. 515) The
demographic variables did not have a significant impact upon these results. This study was
comprised of three levels of caffeine that were consumed. When given larger doses of caffeine
their tests showed their working memory, or short term, did not produce beneficial results.
However, it did not impact their memory as time passed during the test. Reaction times were also
lower with the higher doses as well. In their final findings they discovered that, a low dose of
caffeine enhanced self reported alertness in the absence of any other effects upon mood and
behavioral performance. (Childs and de Wit, 2006, p. 521) The higher doses did not produce the
same results within the total group of participants instead with a higher dose the effects became
more diverse. While it made some participants moods happier it made others incur more anxiety. As

Make sure to pack this when you go out hunting. All you will need is a 7 or 8 foot square tarp, but
make sure that is made with nylon or clear plastic Visqueen, which can be found at the hardware
stores. If you find yourself in the winter weather and without a tarp, seek shelter in nature. For
example, you can cut down some pine boughs to strengthen some shelter for yourself. Matter of
fact if you can find a branched spruce tree, this is best. The last option is to find a gutted carcass of
a moose or elk and crawl inside, this helped one hunter to survive the harsh winter while hunting.
3. Fire
After you have found some sort of shelter, the next thing to do is to construct a fire to help you
survive a cold winter night. The main reason for the fire is warmth, it allows your wet clothes to

of being in the woods while you hunt, your confidence also will be built up a bit as well.
So how are you going to light this fire?
Matches are a good choice for starting a fire with dry tinder, but that s mainly for moderate
weather, not the best choice for harsh winter hunting. There were hunters who died while in the

Plato In The Republic And Niccolo Machiavelli s The Prince
Plato and Machiavelli seek to examine necessary qualities leaders should possess to rule
successfully. Plato s examination of leaders can be considered deontologist (wherein morality
determines decision making) and idealistic whereas Machiavelli s examination is consequentialist
(weighing potential consequences determines decision making) and realistic. Using primary
evidence from Platos The Republic and NiccolГІ Machiavelli s The Prince as well as an
examination of controversial leaders like Donald Trump, I will argue that Machiavelli s rulertraits to
a state are superior to Plato s since they are more realistic of human nature of political actors.
PLATO S LIVED WORLD: SETTING CONTEXT Plato lived in Ancient Athens through the
Peloponnesian War and a tyrannical government. After The Thirty Tyrants, Athens established a
quasi direct democratic government and invoked a lottery system to distribute power amongst the
citizenry. For Wallach, Plato s polis was was not a world inflected by [...], totalitarian regimes, [...]
political orders whose populations top one billion human beings, vast inequalities of wealth, [or]
nuclear tipped drones. Ancient Athens was a polis of trade, tourism and culture but it did not have
the frequency/severity of modern foreign policy issues that affected its decisions. This is crucial to
Plato s views on leadership and it justifies the temporal limitations of his theory.

Misfit In A Good Man Is Hard To Find
In A Good Man is Hard to Find by Flannery O Connor the author introduces the character Misfit ,
who is an escaped murderer, and also introduces a family that is going to go on a vacation to

his family went on a vacation to Florida, even though the grandmother tried to convince them not

Importance Of Psalm 116
Psalm 116 is a great read for us as Christians and for us as moms. Psalms 116 speaks of the
benefits and blessings of God s Word. But, in order to get the benefits and blessings of the Word
we must first study, meditate, and walk out the passages. My greatest motivation for keeping God s
Word close to my heart and my study game strong is my children.
At some point our children will leave us, they will leave our homes and start their own, they will
leave a piece of our family as they marry and begin their own. How refreshing is it to know that
the wisdom and discretion they learn from God s Word is able to protect and guard them even when
we can t be with them. Here s the question though, how will our children learn of God s Word?
Let s dive in, start off by reading Psalm 116:9 16.
9.How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word. 10. I seek you
with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. 11. I have hidden your word in my
heart that I might not sin against you 12.Praise be to you, O Lord; teach me your decrees. 13.
With my lips I recount all the laws that come from your mouth. 14. I rejoice in following your
statues as one rejoices in great riches. 15. I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways. 16. I
delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word.
1. What are some of the ways the psalmist sought after God s Word?
Now read Psalm 116:49 52.
49. Remember your word to your servant, for you have given me hope.

Compare And Contrast Huntington And Fukuyama
Samuel Huntington and Francis Fukuyama
The Berlin Wall was about to fall, the Soviet Union was collapsing, and the world was clamoring
for the consumerist boom in an orgy of free market handful experience, international politics began
travelling out of a Westernized phase, and the relation between the West and the rest began to
crystallize and contest.
Huntington and Fukuyama both provide ground breaking paradigms that explain the complexities
of an embryonic post Cold War world. Their distinct ideologies are a result of their respective false
consciousness which, stems from particular political ideas embodying different social interests.
Huntington peddles a culturalist thesis whilst Fukuyama embodies a framework of universalization
of western liberal democracy in the socio cultural evolution to the end point of human governance.
Fukuyama presented his argument in 1992, and his teacher responded in 1993 with his theory, The
clash of civilizations . Not only do their theories differ from one another, but we see a stark
difference in their writing style as well. Huntington refers to his thesis as a hypothesis, indicating an
experiment rather than a mere opinion, which can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

democratic features and procedures. Fukuyama was careful to stress that he was not implying that
contestation isn t a probability, or that there would be no countries left in the world that did not
conform to the liberal democratic model. At the end of history, he wrote, it is not necessary that all
societies become successful liberal societies, merely that they end their ideological pretensions of
representing different and higher forms of human society. (Fukuyama,

The Theory Of Supply And Demand
When an individual wants a good or service they will go wherever they need to get that good or
service that they want. You never really think how it gets there or why there isn t any left. When
you go to the store to buy groceries and the price has went up you tend to get upset. Although,
when they go down you think to yourself that you better stock up. All of these changes occur
because of demand and supply. Demand and supply are the key components for the economy.
Kirzner (2000) states in his article: The theory of supply and demandis recognized almost
universally as the first step toward understanding how market prices are determined and the way in
which these prices help shape production and consumption decisions the decisions that make up not
shapes the prices for production and consumption of goods and services.
Demand
According to Moffatt Demand is the relationship between the quantity of a good or service
consumers will purchase and the price charged for that good . It is the want or need for a good
or service to be produced. The amount of a good at a certain price that an individual is willing to
buy is called quantity demand. Prices fluctuate for many reasons. When a price of a good or
service goes up or down it is called law of demand. If the price rises, the quantity demanded goes
down. If the price goes down, the quantity demanded goes up. This being that everything else is
equal. Also known as ceterius paribus. The two have an inverse effect on

Paul Lawrence Dunbar s The Ingrate, By Paul Laurence Dunbar
Paul Laurence Dunbar writes this short story. The Ingrate has three main characters, Mr. and Mrs.
Leckler, white farmers who owns a large plantation in the South, and Josh Leckler, their slave. In
this story, Josh envisioned slavery as a deep night. He is determined to go to Canada called the land
of freedom, to escape slavery. Josh would dream about the forbidden vision of freedom. After he
awaken from his dream, he heard a voice (metaphor) out of the woods and whispered to him
Courage! and on that night the shadows beckoned him as the white hills had done, and the forest
called to him, Follow.
Mr. and Mrs Leckler are clueless about Josh plan to escape from their plantation and Mrs.
Leckler, teach Josh the three R s (reading, writing. rithmetic), by her husband s request. Mr.
Leckler being the slave master is breaking the law by allowing Josh to be educated. Although, Mr.
Leckler breaks the law to teach Josh, to read, he still use language such as teaching a nigger to
cipher!
Mr. Leckler considers himself a noble man and justifies his action to teach Josh to read by saying
that he taught his slave to read because he is a generous man and did not want Josh to be cheated
while conducting his business. Although, he has been cheating Josh out of his wages, he justifies
himself by having his wife teach Josh how to read, write, and count money.

Examples Of Identity Formation In The Outsiders
Identity formation and point of view is affected by stereotypes and life circumstances. In S.E.
Hinton s The Outsiders circumstances and stereotypes makes the characters struggle with who
they are. The Outsiders is told from the point of view of Ponyboy. Ponyboy is golden and
unconcerned with stereotypes and through him we observed how the other characters are affected
by those stereotypes. The characters identity formations are delayed by stereotypes; greasers are
seen as dirty, low life hoodlums, and Socs are seen as rich kids with all the brakes. The life
experiences of the characters are explored throughout The Outsiders.
Dally and Johnny are two characters that display how their experiences and greaser stereotypes
shape them throughout the novel. Johnny is unable to form his identity because of the
difficulties in his relationships with his family and the Greasers. If you can picture a little dark
puppy that has been kicked too many times and is lost in a crowd of strangers you ll have
Johnny. This quote demonstrates that he s weak and broken as a result of being beaten, ignored,

Humanity In Gilgamesh
I have understanding that you have not : Constructing Humanity in Gilgamesh
In Tablet VII of The Epic of Gilgamesh, Enkidu s last days on Earth are marked by anguish and
self pity. This outburst of anger is a uniquely human response to trauma, acting as a bookend for
Enkidu s transformation from wild to civilized through his relationship to humanity. In his rage,
Enkidu lifted [his eyes as though to the door,] / he talked with the door as if [with a man:] (p55).
The cedar doors that he and Gilgamesh fastened on the exterior gates of Uruk taunt Enkidu,
reminded him of how he is responsible for his own fate, and his mistakes are his alone to make.
The cedar doors had been constructed to serve two purposes for Enkidu and Gilgamesh: as a
trophy of war celebrating their defeat of Humbaba, and as a means of securing their legacy by
contributing to the safety and grandeur of Uruk. Enkidu s spiteful tone towards these doors, then,
symbolizes dual aspects of humanity: the desire to dominate nature in order to facilitate creation,
and the eternal conflict between creators and their creations.
This first aspect of humanity revealed through Enkidu s interactions with the cedar door is the
process of dominating nature in order to create something grander. Enkidu s background is that of a
wild creature that became civilized in order to be Gilgamesh s equal. At different points in the epic,
Enkidu both civilizes Gilgamesh and encourages him towards restlessness and adventure.

The Milky-Curtis Debate
The first point within the Shapely Curtis debate is based around the size of the Milky Way.
Shapely decided that the Milky Way s diameter was a lot larger than what was generally accepted
based on star counts. This was correct. However, he then said that galaxies that were near to the
Milky Way s size could not exist. This was wrong. Curtis wrongly accepted the general, smaller
size of the galaxy(wrong), but then said that galaxies that are similar sizes to ours may also exist.
This was right.
The second point is about the distribution of the nebulae in the sky. Curtis saw that the spiral
nebulae that had been observed were normally found away from the plane of the Galaxy. He then
suggested that the Milky Wayhas a ring of material in front of the nebulae in its plane that was
stopping us from being able to see the nebulae in the plane. Curtis was nearly correct. Shapely
accepted that spiral nebulae were not found in the Galactic plane for some unknown reason.
Next, there are the observations of novae. Novae are stars that show a sudden increase in brightness
before returning back to their original ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Shapely pointed out that the brightnesses and colours that had been measured in spiral nebulae
were different compared to what he would expect to see if the Milky Way was observed from a
distance. He suggested that the nebulae were, somehow, completely different to our Milky Way. To
this, Curtis had no reply. Today we know that the differences exist because of interstellar absorption
and reddening, which stops astronomers from looking at our own galaxy to compare it, but none of
this information was known at their time. Curtis also noticed that the spectral lines seen in spiral
nebulae were normally the same, with the nebulae s being groups together huge amounts of stars.
This was right, and supported his argument about there being stellar systems similar to our own

Myths are common amongst all cultures and walks of life. One of the most common myths that is

Yoruba is a culture made up of people from parts of Africa. According to their myth the earthwas

nut, said Orunmila ( Yoruba Creation , 2011). Using those elements, he was able to fulfil his duty
to create land and a palm forest. Obatala used the chicken to spread soil to create land and

The Cold Of Cold Calling
Cold calling is a bit of a dirty word in the sales world. Most individuals you interview hate
receiving cold calls, whilst even the sales representatives have a dislike for the practice. Yet, it
remains an important strategy for many companies and it has the potential to provide plenty of
benefits to a businessif only conducted properly.
This guide will look at what cold calling is all about, the reason it has a bad name and the
advantages it has for businesses. You ll learn about the core buildings blocks of a cold calling
strategy and the keys to a good call.
What is cold calling all about?
The practice of cold calling refers to a situation where a business contacts potential customers
without their anticipation of such an interaction. It is essentially a technique where the business
approaches individuals without knowledge that they are interested.
You shouldn t confuse it with the opposite practice of warm calling, where the business has prior
knowledge to suggest to person contacted is interested in the product. Cold calling can sometimes
also be mistakenly identified as telemarketing. Whilst cold calling is a form of telemarketing,
telemarketing is not limited to using cold calling as a strategy. In telemarketing, there is often prior
research involved and it often includes further call ups with the individual or business.
Cold calling strategies typically refer to phone calls, but cold calling can also entail different
methods. For example, drop in visits can

The Importance Of Flag Desecration
The first meeting was with Tony Lorenza, the president of American Veterans for the Flag, who
suggested allowing citizens the freedom to desecrate the flag will weaken it. A call that I
listened to later stressed the same issue; should the flag amendment not pass the flag desecration
would continue to weaken the flag. While I do not agree with this opinion, I understand why
many may feel this way. The flag is a symbol of our freedoms, but the flag is a piece of cloth. It
only has one purpose, to represent. Had our forefathers chosen a paperweight it would still
represent the same freedoms. I received another call, this time from a parent whose daughter
saw a picture of a man burning the flag, and then asked why they had to say the pledge of
allegiance if the government allowed people to desecrate the flag. His reasoning for voting for the
amendment is the type of example parents would be setting for their children by not allowing
someone to abuse the flag. I m going to assume that he chose his reasoning with thoughts that
showing that he cared about the flag would encourage his daughter to respect the flag, as it is one
of our countries most important symbols. I suppose that by respecting the flag, one can show that
they respect the country, but how would one define the limits to what can and cannot be done to
the flag based on their definition of respect? This is where it would start to get complicated
because we all have different views and there is no guarantee that the

Communication Theories by Werner Joseph Severin Essay
Werner Joseph Severin explored communication theories on a wide range through this book, and as
our lives are based entirely on communication persuasion is used daily in different forms, based on
different theories, aiming at changing our attitudes and directing them towards the desired
outcome, therefore chapter 8 theories of persuasion focused on persuasion. As being exposed to
new information every day and changing our attitudes accordingly persuasion has reached its goal,
for example, if you like something and new information you have been exposed to changed your
attitude towards it, then this is a successful persuasion communication. Persuasion can affect our
beliefs as will, as what you believe to be true can be altered by a... Show more content on

The research involved a number of variables that are manipulated very carefully to note there
effects. Additionally, according to Hovland attitudes are learned and are changed through the same
process of learning.
The experimental section of the research branch of the war department s information and education
division evaluated studies of films already existing, and had experimental studies where two
versions of the same film were compared, the second type of research set the way for the rest of the
attitude change research. The first task that this section took upon as evaluating the first four films
of a series of films called why we fight , which was designed to motivate American soldiers to fight
in the war. This research became part of the evidence suggesting that strong held attitudes are less
likely to change because of one mass communication message. On the top of that researchers began
then to examine attitude change due to the cognitive process, which means that receivers of the
message actively think about the message and change their attitude. But more recent theories reveal
that a number of variables working together at the same time results in attitude change. furthermore,
to change attitudes there are specific techniques to follow, the first technique is the one sided and
two sided messages, which is basically either presenting one side of the message

Emily Dickinson Metaphor
I felt a Funeral, in my Brain is a poem written by Emily Dickinson presumably written in 1861.
The poem is an account of how the speaker pictured a funeral inside of her own mind. The poem
consists of an extended metaphor that explains aspects a typical funeral service that relates to the
loss of sanity in a speaker s mind. This comparison can explain Dickinson s own struggle to keep
her sanity in her time of voluntary seclusion from the rest of society. A disregard of the generally
accepted rules on capitalization and punctuation were commonly found throughout her works. In I
felt a Funeral in my Brain , the organization of the poem contrasts to the deterioration of the speaker
s mental state, which parallels to Emily Dickinsons own interior downfall after the constant
suffering felt toward her loved ones. The poem is separated into five stanzas each consisting of
four lines that all relate to the metaphor of a funeral and someone experiencing a mental
breakdown. The first quatrain of the poem presents the extended metaphor used throughout the
entire poem. In line one, the speaker informs the reader that she felt a funeral taking place inside
of her mind, rather than picturing or seeing it. The aspects of the funeral are so realistic to the
speaker that it looks as if reality is protruding into the mind. The second stanzadepicts the funeral
service as boring, but the consistency of the dull noise allows the speaker to clear her thoughts.

Chapter 1 : Introduction: The idea of ETF was first perceived by NATHAN MOST in 1993.
Nathan s first ETF was called SPARD (also referred to as SPIDER) and it was first traded on the
American stock exchange (AMEX) by state street GA. SPARD s only purpose is to track the S
P 500. The number of ETFs that track different indexes all over the world exchange markets have
increased significantly since 1993. SPARD, as a first ETF, dominated the markets in the 1990s,
together with CUBES, which was designed to track NASDAQ 100. The ETF is a financial
product, which has attracted a large number of financial product designers. The ETF as a
creative idea has opened a significant number of empty rooms on the exchange market, which
needed to be filled with new ETF products. This is what attracted the financial product designers
to create different types of ETFs in the last 21 years. Barclays global fund advisor introduced
WEBS (world equity benchmark shares) in 1996 as a first ETF to provide American investors
with easy access to the forging markets. They created a family of ETFs and each ETF had
ishares as a first name and the index it followed as a second name (Ferri, 2002) . The ETF
influence could first be seen in Europe, when the German Deutsche bank presented an ETF linked
to commodity in 2006 (Fuchita Yasuyuki, 2007). ETF Barclays continued to generate new EFT
products by launching the first ETF linked to the bond price index in 2002.The ETF as a financial

Walking Dead Season 7
The Walking Dead Season 7 won t air on TV until October, but that s not stopping fans from
scouring the internet in hopes of find out which character was brutally beaten to death by Negan
in the Season 6 finale. While it may be nearly impossible to figure out exactly who Negan s
victim was, Walking Dead fans may have gotten a little preview of the gruesome death this
week, thanks to Greg Nicotero, the show s special effects guru. Uproxx reports that in Nicotero
s recent Instagram post he shows a test of an exploding head, which could be used in the Walking
Dead Season 7 premiere when Negan is actually shown bashing one of the beloved characters

As many Walking Dead fans already know, it is Glenn Rhee who is brutally beaten to death by
Negan in the comic book series. That is why so many viewers have a feeling that Glenn was also
Negan s victim in the Season 6 finale. Although multiple theories have been revealed by fans, it
seems the consensus is that Glenn is gone come Season 7. It seems that The Walking Dead has
been foreshadowing Glenn s death since the first season with Glenn being beaten by a bat in
Season 1 by the men that kidnapped him, nearly having his head bashed in at Terminus, finding,
and carrying around, a bat in Noah s former neighborhood, and of course, being the one to find
the photos of Negan s victims at The Savior s hide out. In fact, Glenn s death has been
foreshadowed so much, that some fans believe it could all be stunt to make us believe it was
Glenn who dies, and then have Negan kill another character such as Daryl

The United States Armed Forces Essay
There are currently 2,204,836 people serving in the United States Armed Forces. Females currently
make up 16.2% of those currently serving equating to 358,156 this number includes both enlisted,
reserve, and the officer corps. While the Armed Forces has downsized, the percentage of females
serving has increased with females now making up 17.8% of all active duty personnel and roughly
thirty nine thousand serving as active duty officers. With the increasing diversity of the military,
Secretary of Defense Ash Carter officially opened all positions to females on 03 JAN 2016, in a
move to better strengthen the Armed Forces. (Demographics, 2013)
In 1981, the Supreme Court of the United States(SCOTUS) ruled on Rostker v. Goldberg that
stated, women would not be required to register for the Selective Service System(SSS) because
they are not able to serve in direct combat roles in any branch of the Armed Forces.(Rostker v.
Goldberg) While females have gone to war and been on the front lines, they have always been
there indirectly. Until the announcement by Secretary Carter on 03 DEC 2015 females were not
allowed to directly serve in combat units, or special operations. This change in policy by the
United States Armed Forces means there is precedence set by Rostker v. Goldberg in the case of
females having to register for the SSS. The SSS currently registers all males between the ages of
eighteen to twenty five, in the occurrence that the draft is reenacted. Females, now have the

Truman Show Equality
The Truman show is an American science fiction film produced in 1998, directed by Peter Weir,
and starring Jim Carrey as Truman Burbank, who is unknowingly starring in a produced by a
man known as Christof, who is played by Ed Harris. The movie aims a satirical barb at the rapidly
expanding influence of the media, and this is apparent through the relationship between Christof
and Truman, and how the media, if unchecked, could remove the very notion of privacy, and
render it a long forgotten moral value. Christof was in no way right to prevent Truman entering the
real world, as it was wrong to deny Truman his freedom, it was selfish and morally unjust to put
Truman s own feelings, rights and happiness second to his show s successfulness, and... Show more

There are numerous examples of this throughout the film, however an explicit and rather
symbolic one was nearing the end of the movie, when Truman had finally conquered his fears,
and reached the end of the world. It is at this point that Christof projects his voice to Truman
from above the clouds, where the spiritual residence of a God, or indeed Gods are symbolized to
be. This might well have been done to add to the sense of awe that Truman undoubtedly felt upon
realizing that his world was not indeed the real world but rather, an artificially created one, and
one that had been designed by the man that was now talking to him, the man that even as he first
directly speaks to Truman, takes the mantle and position of God. By doing so, Christof may have
attempted to exert a subliminal form of influence over Truman, in order to better persuade him. His
very first words to Truman, in response to Truman s question about his identity, further reinforces
this notion: I am the creator of a television show that gives hope and joy and inspiration to

And I have tendencies to keep everything to myself, or just keep it inside of my head . I become
very analytical about my surroundings and situations. I keep my opinions and feelings to
myself, which prevents others from feeling like I am bombarding them with my personal issues
and problems. This can become problematic though because this causes me to bottle up my
emotions and feelings about a lot of things, causing my personal problems to constantly pile up
and become very problematic in the future. Whenever I am around others, I do not tend to be
emotional around them or with them. I do not feel like others should be involved in my personal

that I lack emotion, and I tend to bottle them up which can become problematic in the future. I

Examples Of Allegory In The Devil And Tom Walker
The Devil and Tom Walker Allegory Throughout the history of literature there have been many
prominent and robust allegories published. The Devil and Tom Walker is a short story written by
Washington Irving.
An allegory can be represented as a story, poem, or essay that can be picked apart to reveal a
hidden meaning, usually a moral or political one. Many renowned allegories written throughout
time contain an essential ingredient, symbolism. Symbolism uses images and indirect suggestions
to express mystical ideas, emotions, and states of mind. In an allegory like The Devil and Tom
Walker the fantastic elements are real in the sense that they represent something else (Piedmont
Marton 55). The story of The Devil and Tom Walker is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many of the everyday and small temptations we face entail minimum consequences. In the case
of Tom Walker, he meets the devil known as Old Scratch . In Many stories that contain the devil,
the devil represents temptation; the story of Tom Walker is no different. Tom s interactions with
Old Scratch illustrate just how disastrous greed and temptation can be. The devil identifies Tom
s weakness of greed and tempts him with the thing Walker craves most in life, wealth. It is the
Devil s usual place in literature to tempt other characters, often by providing some hapless
character a deal too good to refuse (Wilson 50). Old Scratch uses Kidd the pirate s treasure as
bait to reel Tom in, and once he got him hooked, there was no return for Tom. Old Scratch
exploits Tom s weakness to the point of complete devotion of Tom s soul to him. Temptation is
usually fueled by an accomplice, and in The Devil and Tom Walker it is greed and the desire for
power. The devil also uses the death of Tom s wife to anchor Tom into finalizing the deal.
Ultimately, temptation is what gets Tom Walker killed at the end of the story. If Tom were to put
down his urges for mass amounts of wealth in the wrong way, his wife would have lived and he
would also not have had his soul taken away from him in the end. With that being said, Old Scratch
is the symbolic representation of temptation in the story of The Devil and Tom

Pointing Gesture Essay
Although infants understandings about the function of the pointing gesture can be an important
factor to the development of the pointing gesture, there is an ongoing debate about the cognitive
mechanisms underlying the interpretation of the pointing gesture. With the possible interpretation
from the egocentric perspectiveof the infants or the influence of social interaction, this paper
suggests the infants ability to understanding the function of the pointing gesture based on their
shared experiences. However, based on the results of the earlier studies, the research further

Additionally, the result of these two studies is consistent with the previous findings and moreover,
the difference between the result of these two studies further emphasize the influence of age,
memory and the complexity of the task in the infant s understanding of the pointing gesture in a
social context. This difference might due to the lower memory capacity of 14 months old infant in
the performance of the complex task. Even though, this study highlights the role of the shared
experience to the infant s interpretation of the pointing gesture, the function of the shared
experiences might depend on the infants understanding of the pointing gestures as an intentionally
communicative cue to interpret the situation. However, there are many possible confounds in these
two studies, especially the gaze of the experimenter can be an important cue to the infants
understanding of the pointing gesture. Although the researchers eliminated the possibility for the
infants to make an association between the presence

Brush Fires By Linda Thomas Analysis
Each year in Southern California, the fall is marked by the arrival of the Santa Ana. These winds
are described in two different texts, Brush Fires by Linda Thomas and The Santa Ana by Joan
Didion. Both pieces address the relationship between the wind and the community, using rhetorical
devices to convey their views. Thomas presents a windthat is essential to nature. Didion, on the
other hand, sees the wind as a characteristic Los Angeles, that can sometimes be detrimental. The
writers also have contrasting experiences with the fires causes which cause drastic differences in
tone, portrayal of the winds, and the overall message within each text. Both texts talk about the

Didion shows that California is not the only place affected by these winds, many places in the
world are as well. She uses the winds and their effects such as increased suicide rate, depression,
nervousness, atypical blood clotting, and more, as a metaphor for life and the world in general.
The world and life, just as the winds, is in an unnatural state at all times. In the winds, ...the air
carries an unusually high ratio of positive to negative ions and no one seems to know why.
Similarly, insanity in life can hit anywhere at any time, with no explanation why. The overall
purpose of Didion s text is to not only show that these winds truly do have a detrimental effect to
some extent on the lives of the people living in California, but also to show that life is just as
unpredictable as life and people overall.. Thomas s overall message of his piece is to primarily say
that humans are greedy and take advantage of nature. Therefore, people need to have more respect

  • 3. Buried Child Play Essay Sam Shepherd s 1978 Buried child play introduces its audience to a dark, twisted plot revolving around a family based in Illinois whose secrets are revealed. Shepard explores various themes such as the conventional family and how within all nuclear families there is dysfunction, Religion and how it s used as a coping mechanism and how the events of the past have significance in the present. When interpreting and creating a performance based from the script various drama conventions are utilised to ensure it s relevancy to today s audience is captured. Design Project The American Dream was a concept introduced in the 1950 s, Post World War 2. Moving forward from the depression Eisenhower developed a unique rubric for America to follow that created a whole new base of unrealistic, achievable expectations. America became one of the most economically thriving countries, but due to an almost instantaneous advancement in technology, it further fuelled corruption as a result of over consumption. Notions such as the nuclear family were important to individuals. The fantasy of having a perfect, functional family was an aspiration for most families as it resembled success and superiority within their community. Luxurious living was considered a major necessity in the same category as basic human requirements i.e Food, Shelter, Clothing. ITEC 610 Assingement 1 Essay The relationship and interaction between XML and databases ECET610 UMUC Abstract This paper will explore the relationship between XML and databases and the way that they can be leveraged to provide data exchange on the internet. As XML gains popularity as the format for exchanging information via the internet and has become the language of choice for use in database development for Internet use.Introduction XML is a universal data standard and thereby does not need to be translated for use in different database systems. This is very important with large corporate data systems. In companies that have web presence this is a vital concern where some of the data base systems are handled by external companies that use an entirely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This presents a scalability problem in that when the system contains a few thousand documents the performance tends to degrade and become a management issue. Synchronization is also a problem between the non database code and the database. If changes are made to the database structure the XML pointers need to be updated as well and the system is not very portable. The XML mapping style of data storage is used by web sites that map user inputs into XML schema that manages the storage and retrieval of the data as shown in the example Figure 1. This is an effective method when the existing data is in XML format. Using XML to simplify processes The flexibility of XML has made it the standard for the formatting and sharing of data via the web. This ease of translation enables XML to be transformed into non XML formats for use with databases and their associated applications. An XML database is a database that stores the data fields in XML format. This allows for cross platform transferability and web page presentation. The Effects Of Obesity On Public Health Introduction Obesity is a traditionally first world health problem that is a growing concern throughout the world because of its negative effects on public health as well as the wider economy. According to both the WHO and the NHS, an individual s Body Mass Index (BMI), is an imperfect, yet effective tool for measuring obesity. The WHO definition has determined that a BMI of 25 29.9 is classified as being overweight, whereas a BMI of 30 34.9 is considered to be a sign of obesity (World Health Organization, 2014).The NHS goes on to add that it is useful to consider an individual s waist circumference as fit and muscular people can also have a relatively high BMI without an excess of fat, and classifies men and women with waist circumferences of 90cm and 80cm respectively as being at risk for obesity related health conditions (Nhs.uk, 2014). Obesity must be dealt with early and at the local level. In the London borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, 20.1% of year 6 children are classified as obese, high compared to the national average of 18.9%. Conversely, only 13.3% of adults in this borough are obese, much fewer than the national average of 23.0% (Public Health England, 2014). • 6. Cyclical Argument In Plato s Phaedo In Plato s dialogue, the Phaedo, he gives a description of the immortality of the soul. He does this through a series of arguments. His first argument, known as the Cyclical Argument, is that everything comes to be from out of its opposite. The second argument, known as the Recollection Argument, asserts that learning is essentially an act of recollecting things we knew before we were born but then forgot. The third argument, known as the Affinity Argument, distinguishes between those things that are immaterial, invisible, and immortal, and those things that are material, visible, and perishable. His fourth argument, known as the Final Argument, is that the soulcan be called the cause of life. I do not agree Platoprovided a good argument for the Immortality of the Soul.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One criticism of this argument is that death is contrary to life, but its contradictory opposite. It is impossible for something to be both dead and alive, but it is possible for something to be neither dead nor alive. Socrates also refers to being alive and being dead as opposites, but this pair is rather different from comparative states such as larger and smaller, since something can t be deader, but only dead. Being alive and being dead are what logicians call contraries. Some contemporary commentators have maintained that the argument relies on covertly shifting between these different kinds of opposites. Does the principle about balance, for instance, necessarily apply to living things? Couldn t all life simply cease to exist at some point, without returning? Sweat poured from his face, determination. They surrounded the hag, spears, swords and crossbows at the ready. As the gray faced, paled skin and snow white eyes gazed upon the hunters, Jeremiah felt the new feeling, not fear, nor bravery. The abominus fien lifted her hand and the trees around them reached down and the branches of the trees swooped down like hands, and grabbed the necks of the men and broke them. Jeremiah was alone surrounded by the bodies of his best men. He rose to his feet and in a action of rage and bravery, grasped his sword and charged the sorcerer. The foul creature stopped his movement and held him in place, saying to him in a crimson voice death is too easy for you . Jeremiah was at the mercy of evil. After over 50 years of being flown above the statehouse, the flag was removed on July 10, 2015. According to the New York Times: The final vote in the State House of Representatives, 94 to 20, was well above the two thirds majority required to move the bill to the desk of Gov. Nikki R. Haley, a Republican who called for the flag to come down after the massacre last month at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston. Indisputably, a great tragedy was inflicted upon the people of Charleston, South Carolina. Indisputably, nine innocent people were murdered in a prayer service on the evening of June 17, 2015. In many ways Americans live vicariously through the experiences of fictional characters and believe themselves to learn many things from fictional characters. For example, many persons have said they learned CPR by watching medical shows on televisionor believe they can assist in a medical emergency because they have seen experts on television handle similar situations. This same belief extends to Americans knowledge about the law and the judicial system of the nation. The same kind of good evil scenario between the defense attorney and prosecutor s office is also evident in the television show Law Order. Although that show does not often portray one side as only good or only bad, there have been times when it has created defense attorney characters who have taken advantage of the law to force the system to completely exonerate their clients, which makes them appear to be evil people who are cheating justice. Reality and Fiction: the True View 3 The reality of attorneys on opposing sides of a case is that they are seldom easily identified as good or evil persons and just because they are working for the defense or the prosecution does not indicate the type of person they are (Steinberg). Both are expected to act legally and both have pressures on them that affect their work and who they are. Simply the side they represent does not alone affect the kind of person they are. As to how they try their cases, attorney ethical codes require attorneys to zealously pursue their case for the benefit of their client to the extent the law allows (ABA). This means that if a defense attorney sees an opportunity for his client to be set free then he or she must use it because that is their job. It is the job of the prosecutor to assure the defense does not have those opportunities. Again, this does not reflect on the quality of their character. The same thing can also ... Dettwyler s, Dancing Skeletons; Life and Death in West Africa very interesting though I did not like the way in which it was written. To me it was written in a very scattered brain way, similar to how a hyperactive childs diary would look like. At times when Dettwyler was trying to explain something, she would go into tangents, mostly about her own personal opinions of the topic, which ruined the mood of the book, lessened the impact of whatever she was talking about at the time and frankly, it just annoyed me. I found it difficult to understand what was trying to be said and it made it difficult to read. I think if she didn t try to cover so much in such a small book malnutrition, female circumcision and other random topics I would have enjoyed it more. One thing that I did like was how she wasn t political on her trips to Mali, she just talked to people. She didn t preach just talk and I think that s what helped improve these people s lives. It was interesting but I wouldn t read it again or recommend it like I did for the Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down. Main Points: Though Dettwyler was scatterbrained, I did recognize some of her main points for writing this book. Her main points were to show the importance of nutritional health and how there are many ways to help people and the best way to achieve this was to take a holistic approach and proper education. The fundamental purpose of a school is to educate and coach children in their emotional, cognitive, civic, vocational, and social development. The Story of Joseph, in the book of Genesis, struck me as a primeval example of bullying dating back to 5th century BCE. Joseph was the 11th son of Jacob and was born to Jacob s favorite wife, Rachel. At the age of 17, Joseph was a shepherd alongside 11 of his brothers. His father, Jacob, displayed much more love to Joseph than any of his other sons, so much so that he gave Joseph a one of a kind coat of many colors (Genesis 37:23). The other brothers were jealous of Joseph and distained him. Joseph only further provoked this hatred when he told his brothers about two of his dreams he had of the family. The brother s tolerance only lasted so long. When the brothers saw him alone in a field, they plotted to kill him. When Joseph approached, they tore off his special coat and threw him into a pit. His brother, Judah, came up with the idea to sell Joseph into slavery. The brothers then dipped his coat into goat blood brought it back to Jacob. Jacob recognized the coat and concluded that a beast had killed his son, while in reality; he was in a caravan heading towards Egypt. There is no denying the raised awareness about bullying today than in past years. Although bullying has always existed, only recently has it been systematically measured. You never really think how it gets there or why there isn t any left. When you go to the store to buy groceries and the price has went up you tend to get upset. Although, when they go down you think to yourself that you better stock up. All of these changes occur because of demand and supply. Demand and supply are the key components for the economy. This outburst of anger is a uniquely human response to trauma, acting as a bookend for Enkidu s transformation from wild to civilized through his relationship to humanity. In his rage, Enkidu lifted [his eyes as though to the door,] / he talked with the door as if [with a man:] (p55). The cedar doors that he and Gilgamesh fastened on the exterior gates of Uruk taunt Enkidu, reminded him of how he is responsible for his own fate, and his mistakes are his alone to make. The cedar doors had been constructed to serve two purposes for Enkidu and Gilgamesh: as a trophy of war celebrating their defeat of Humbaba, and as a means of securing their legacy by contributing to the safety and grandeur of Uruk. Enkidu s spiteful tone towards these doors, then, symbolizes dual aspects of humanity: the desire to dominate nature in order to facilitate creation, and the eternal conflict between creators and their creations. This first aspect of humanity revealed through Enkidu s interactions with the cedar door is the process of dominating nature in order to create something grander. Shapely decided that the Milky Way s diameter was a lot larger than what was generally accepted based on star counts. This was correct. However, he then said that galaxies that were near to the Milky Way s size could not exist. This was wrong. Curtis wrongly accepted the general, smaller size of the galaxy(wrong), but then said that galaxies that are similar sizes to ours may also exist. This was right. The second point is about the distribution of the nebulae in the sky. Curtis saw that the spiral nebulae that had been observed were normally found away from the plane of the Galaxy. He then suggested that the Milky Wayhas a ring of material in front of the nebulae in its plane that was stopping us from being able to see the nebulae in the plane. Curtis was nearly correct. Today we know that the differences exist because of interstellar absorption and reddening, which stops astronomers from looking at our own galaxy to compare it, but none of this information was known at their time. Curtis also noticed that the spectral lines seen in spiral nebulae were normally the same, with the nebulae s being groups together huge amounts of stars. This was right, and supported his argument about there being stellar systems similar to our own ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Importance Of Flag Desecration The first meeting was with Tony Lorenza, the president of American Veterans for the Flag, who suggested allowing citizens the freedom to desecrate the flag will weaken it. A call that I listened to later stressed the same issue; should the flag amendment not pass the flag desecration would continue to weaken the flag. While I do not agree with this opinion, I understand why many may feel this way. The flag is a symbol of our freedoms, but the flag is a piece of cloth. It only has one purpose, to represent. Had our forefathers chosen a paperweight it would still represent the same freedoms. I received another call, this time from a parent whose daughter saw a picture of a man burning the flag, and then asked why they had to say the pledge of allegiance if the government allowed people to desecrate the flag. His reasoning for voting for the amendment is the type of example parents would be setting for their children by not allowing someone to abuse the flag. I m going to assume that he chose his reasoning with thoughts that showing that he cared about the flag would encourage his daughter to respect the flag, as it is one of our countries most important symbols. I suppose that by respecting the flag, one can show that they respect the country, but how would one define the limits to what can and cannot be done to the flag based on their definition of respect? This comparison can explain Dickinson s own struggle to keep her sanity in her time of voluntary seclusion from the rest of society. The poem is separated into five stanzas each consisting of four lines that all relate to the metaphor of a funeral and someone experiencing a mental breakdown. The first quatrain of the poem presents the extended metaphor used throughout the entire poem. In line one, the speaker informs the reader that she felt a funeral taking place inside of her mind, rather than picturing or seeing it. In Many stories that contain the devil, the devil represents temptation; the story of Tom Walker is no different. Tom s interactions with Old Scratch illustrate just how disastrous greed and temptation can be. The devil identifies Tom s weakness of greed and tempts him with the thing Walker craves most in life, wealth. It is the Devil s usual place in literature to tempt other characters, often by providing some hapless character a deal too good to refuse (Wilson 50). If Tom were to put down his urges for mass amounts of wealth in the wrong way, his wife would have lived and he would also not have had his soul taken away from him in the end. With that being said, Old Scratch is the symbolic representation of temptation in the story of The Devil and Tom ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Both pieces address the relationship between the wind and the community, using rhetorical devices to convey their views. Thomas presents a windthat is essential to nature. Didion, on the other hand, sees the wind as a characteristic Los Angeles, that can sometimes be detrimental.
