A Myriad Of Battles Make Up War Essay
A myriad of battles make up war. Physical force is used to make an opponent inept to further
confrontation. War is thus an art of force to compel our enemy to do our will. In human history, the
20th century was the bloodiest, priciest century of warfare. Since 1914, there have been two world
wars, and several major revolutions such as the Russia Civil War, the Vietnam War, and the Gulf War
among others. According to Clausewitz, war is an inherent subset of politics where every military act
has political consequences. Politics is about power, and war is a violent expression of disagreements
and tensions arising among political groups. He argues that the intrinsic feature of war demonstrates a
clear relationship between war and politics. Time and again, the overpowered state regards the result
purely as a temporary evil for which a resolve may still be found in political situations. Whereas, it is
expected that militarily powerful states would win war against their weak adversaries, they have
sometimes failed in achieving their desired political outcomes. This essay endeavors to look into some
contributing factors to these failures and point out what strategies should do to increase their
likelihood of success.
First, poor choice of strategy and ill preparedness will affect war outcome. Heavily militarized states
lose war when they apply wrong strategy as opposed to their adversary. For example during the post
World War Two wars of independence in Indochina and Algeria,

Essay On The 1960s
1960s was a decade of sweeping change throughout the fashion world generating ideas and images
that still appear modern today. It was a decade of numerous affairs, tremendous communal change
symbolizing drastic revolution, rebellion alterations. It was not only the starting of the era of Space
Age technological innovation, motivated by space journey in 1961 but also a decade defining a record
of headings all interpreting evolution, diversity, success and the movement away from the traditional
fifties. Developers began providing style a beneficial and innovative look. New components such as

Furthermore, their fashion techniques and market strategy for their individual fashion labels were seen

The Father In Cormac Mccarthy s The Road
The road by Cormac McCarthy follows a boy and his father as they venture across a quiet, wet,
traitorous, post apocalyptic setting of earth. McCarthy creates the imagery of a rough, weathered west
coast as the boy and his father slowly attempt to fight their way to warmer weather as winter starts to
fall. McCarthy s, the road is terrifying yet complex and mysterious at the same time powered by
McCarthy s emotions and visions of the 2006 fight against terror in the united states.
McCarthy s inquisitive and unique style of writing is continued in this novel through the use of
grammatical errors and prolonged sentences, he does this to bend the readers mind into imagining a
long, grueling road with no breaks or ease as this closely resembles the boy and his fathers journey
throughout the novel. The development of the relationship between the father and the son also chops
and changes throughout the text. It begins with the son being very reliant on his father to take care and
nourish him with attention and knowledge The father s loving efforts to shepherd his son are made
that much more wrenching by the unavailability of food, shelter, safety, companionship or hope in
most places where they scavenge to survive, therefore the son is forced to grow ... Show more content

How Do Tattoos Communicate In Polynesian Cultures
Writing Prompts: What do tattoos communicate in Polynesian cultures? in the U.S.? The skin stories
we learned about in class in Polynesian culture was very interesting. In their culture tattoos have a
deeper meaning then some American tattoos. The origin of where they come from is a lot different,
not to say that U.S tattoos are not important. Because there are plenty of passionate talented artists out
there, that do a solid job at making special tattoos for people every day. But the story of Polynesian
tattoos came to be is very different since it has been around for centuries. Polynesian people are

Roles And Roles Of Women
The roles of gender are changing rapidly. Throughout U.S. history men have played dominant roles
and were always the family breadwinners. As women get more education and make more money they
are becoming the primarily breadwinners of their families. More women are working outside the home
and their earnings are important to the well being of their families. What are the effect on their
families, careers and equal wages? The days of mom staying at home full time are long gone for most
families. More women are their family s breadwinners than ever before. Heather Boushey in The New
Breadwinners, states Women are more likely to work outside the home and their earning are more
important to their families well being than ever before in our nation s history (31). In families today
there s no one staying at home in the day, so there no one there when kids come home from school
with everyday life. Boushey wrote, nearly 4 in 10 mothers (39.3 percent) are primary breadwinners,
bringing home the majority of the family s earning and nearly two thirds (62.8percent) are
breadwinners or co breadwinners bringing home at least a quarter of the family earning. According to
The New York Times, U.S. Women on the Rise as Family Breadwinners, Catherine Rampell wrote
that four in 10 American households with children under 18 now include a mother who is either the
sole or primary earner for her family the highest on record it has quadrupled since 1960 (2). The

Political, Social, And Political Changes In The Medieval Ages
In Medieval Europe Kingdoms there were many changes. Most of the changes were good for the
world. The changes in medieval times can be drawn comparison to todays world. The changes focused
on will be political, social, and economic. These changes will help people understand a small part of
the worlds history. There were many political changes in Europe s Medieval society. In Medieval
Europe it showed the largest growth in the society in Europe. The government was also made into
bureaucracies, bureaucrats did not have full control over the people. Europe helped influence many
places around them. The rulers did not have complete rule of there people, it leads to a more self
governed society. The rulers in the society more made rules for the people, made ideas for battle, and
found out ways to strengthen their communities as a whole. This did cause plenty of fights in
Medieval Europe over who had the most power. The popes were important to the people back then.
After the fight between pope and government Europe was seeing the world with a new eye. Political
changes helped sculpt the world that in present day, and will help effect life for a long time to come.
Another important fact to the changing of Medieval Europe is the social changes. There were new
social classes that came into play at this time. Merchants and artisans helped in the change of the
social classes. Even though women did increase the Europe world they were still considered defined
by men in the time.

Food Self Provisioning
Food is, quite simply, essential. Without it, life can only exist for a short period of time. How we
manage to produce enough food to survive will have an impact on the environment as the food
systems we use can both contribute to environmental damage and yet be affected by it in turn
(Jehlicka Raghuram, 2013). Given that agriculture contributes a substantial amount of Greenhouse
Gasses (over 50% combined) means that food systems are at the heart of climate change (Jehlicka
Raghuram, 2013). Food systems are the methods by which we produce (farming, agriculture, fishing
etc), process (treat, process, package etc), store (ambient, chilled, frozen and housing), transport
(locally, regionally, globally, air, sea, land etc) and dispose of items ... Show more content on

Food self provisioning represents a very different kind of relationship between humans, food and the
environment. Food self provisioning and sharing the excess are generally social practices with low
environmental impacts; these, in turn, promote social community bonds which are compatible with
sustainability (Jehlicka, 2013b). It requires little research effort, has no governmental intervention
(unless the use of allotments is involved) and practices vary widely around the world. Food self
provisioning is generally environmentally and socially sustainable. It follows that if an individual
changes their agency (whether through a change in values or beliefs or out of conscience) and that
individual then changes their behaviour, they may set a precedent that others then follow. (Jehlicka,
2013b). Research shows that these practices promote local social, ecological and environmental
resilience by strengthening networks of cooperation between families, friends, neighbours and co
workers (Jehlicka, 2013b). Alongside this is the reduction of waste as surplus is distributed amongst
networks that encompass urban and rural family and friends, which also has the added benefit of
reducing excess resource and energy consumption; this is both socially and environmentally
sustainable. It gives practitioners control over what they produce as on a very general level food self
provisioning involves very modest amounts (if any) of fossil fuel based and/or fertilisers and
pesticides. This, along with that fact that little (if any) fossil fuel is used in the transportation of goods
as these will mainly distributed locally (Jehlicka, 2013b). Added to this is that products also tend to
result in much less packaging and waste; even the methods of preservation whether that be drying,
salting, pickling, smoking, fermenting, canning, freezing and dehydrating will often have higher levels

Katy Perry s The Song Fireworks Essay
Katy Perry takes a similar approach by creating a song that allows people to be the way they are. Katy
Perry had created the song Fireworks. This song is an inspirational song that allows people to reveal
themselves to the true world instead of keeping it a secret. Katy is trying to portray the fact that people
should not be afraid to represent the way they truly are. She wants everyone to show his or her true
colors . In a sense, Katy wants to people to embrace what they are. In the first few lines she states, Do
you ever feel like a plastic bag. Drifting through the wind. Wanting to start again (Fireworks). This
part of the song reveals that a lot of people go with the flow. They just follow the norms of society and
do not fight against it. She continues on to talk about how people continue to go with the flow until
she states, Do you know that there s still a chance for you. Cause there s a spark in you (Fireworks).
This portion of the song reveals there is hope even if want to go against the norm. Just a small push is
needed in order to get over the hurdle. Then Katy states, Cause baby you re a firework. Come and
show em what you re worth. Make em go oh, oh, oh! As you shoot across the sky y y (Fireworks).
When you do reveal yourself, it will feel like a huge burden is lifted off your shoulders. Katy is trying
to say to her fans be motivated and keep reaching for the stars. Being unique might be a bad thing, but
don t let their voice reach you.

The Investigation Of Movement And Its Effect On Football
When you toss a football to one of your companions out in the back yard, you are applying material
science ideas. You need to make changes for various variables, similar to wind, separation and weight
of the ball. The more distant away the harder you need to toss it with the end goal it should get to him.
These computations that happen in your mind is every one of the piece of material science, you simply
don t have any acquaintance with it on the grounds that it easily falls into place. Material science is the
area of science that arrangements with our general surroundings. The piece of material science that
most identifies with football is mechanics, which is the investigation of movement. Material science is
the branch of science arrangements with the physical world. The branch of material science that is
most important to football is mechanics, the investigation of movement and its reasons. Football use
all different type of physics. You got newton first law, second law, and third law In football a standout
amongst the most critical parts is having the capacity to toss or kick a football, all the more
imperatively to toss or kick a football keeping in mind the end goal to score. Restricted of doing this is
to toss or kick a football with a high speed/speed. One of the best quarterback s in the NFL at this
moment is the newcomer, Cam Newton who plays for the Carolina Panthers. He is a key sample of a

Essay On Phonetics And Phonology
This paper investigates the contribution of early Arab scholars in general phonetics and phonology and
its impact on modern phonetics. It is important to note that phonetics and phonology were not
independent disciplines. Rather, they were part of other disciplines. Therefore, in terms of early Arab
contribution to phonetics and phonology, their scholarship can be derived from three major areas:
(i) Arabic linguistics whose pioneers are Alkhalīl Al Farāhīdi through his book Al ain, Sibawayh
through his book Al Kitāb, and Ibn Jinni through his book Sir S̥ ina at Ali rāb.
(ii) medicine, philosophy and music whose most prominent figures are Al Kindi through his book

According to this phonological rule, he classifies sounds into consonants and vowels (sāit and sāmit).
Based on his own statistics, Al Kindi makes a universal conclusion that consonants are more frequent
than vowels in all languages. Then, he divides vowels into long and short. Moreover, he establishes
more than one hundred phonological rules of euphony and cacophony. Al Kindi has also written
another book of applied phonetics (Allathghah (lisping)) in which he tackles speech defects. In the
introduction of the book, he gives a detailed description of the speech mechanisms of various
languages. Then he discusses the reasons of lisping and the description of places of articulation with
an anatomical analysis. Al Kindi is the first Arabic physician who discusses acoustic phonetics,
dynamics of air, air stream mechanism, and auditory perception of linguistic and non linguistic sounds

Essay on Trojan Sofa
The Trojan Sofa
Bernard MacLaverty brings us The Trojan Sofa , a short story that incorporates a corrosive
relationship between a boy and his father, Niall and Da. The title itself suggests that deceit and
deception is a feature of the story, as it turns out, this is two fold. MacLaverty has innovatively chosen
to use the first person narrative mode to enable the reader to become much more familiar with Niall
and warm to him as a character. With Niall being the narrator, he speaks sincerely of Da but the reader
is forced to read between the lines to ascertain just how sincere Da is towards Niall.

Da would ve asked about dogs and alarms so in Niall s eyes, Da is looking out for him and making
sure he is safe. He doesn t see the bigger picture; he doesn t think Da would put him in danger. As Da

reader, for Niall himself is in the dark twofold; he has been duped into spending a whole night in total
darkness in a sofa with the intention of burglarising the major s house for the patriotic reasons Da has
convinced him of but more upsettingly, we can see that Niall is being used as a pawn by Da to further
his criminal shenanigans, without Niall, Da could not pull off his devious schemes.
We are further convinced that Niall is being deceived by Da when it turns out that the British army
major is in fact an architect. Niall sees the framed diploma, but has been brainwashed so much that he
doesn t consider that the architecture diploma signifies that the major may not be a major at all.
Whether Da loves Niall or not is never in question, but Da is risking his long term bond with him, as
Niall becomes savvy to the real nature of the business he is involved in it could go one of two ways;
Da had better hope he has groomed Niall well enough to take the same outlook as himself. Although it
is never mentioned, the theme of deceit and betrayal between the two characters run through this

halo effect and recency effect Essay
As Director of Human Resources for People, people who need people.com, I have created the
following training proposal which will include common problems that occur when managers complete
performance reviews and suggestions for supervisors on how to eliminate or reduce these problems.
The common problems I have identified when conducting my research for this training are as follows:
Ø The halo effect which as the name implies causes supervisors to only see the angel in an employee
and blinds them by ignoring smaller problem areas that require growth and development. (San Joaquin
County Human Resources Division, 2002) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(San Joaquin County Human Resources Division, 2002)
Ø The mirroring effect is when supervisors favor employees that remind them of themselves and have
difficulty assessing and valuing the differences others bring to the workplace. (San Joaquin County
Human Resources Division, 2002)
The following solutions are what I am proposing to eliminate or reduce these problems:
Ø On the halo effect, produce continuous documentation over the duration of the evaluation, which
will assist supervisors in writing the employee s evaluation.
Ø On comparing employees, write their evaluations at different times, which will give the supervisor
time to center on one employee at a time.
Ø For the central tendency effect, supervisors need to identify problem areas with identifiable
solutions and the leadership to resolve these problem areas. By providing information that is
constructive, the supervisor is helping the person become an improved person.
Ø On the pitchfork effect, supervisors need to remember that they are evaluating the employee for the
entire time frame indicated on the evaluation. Constant records of performance, helps the supervisor
stay away from focusing on a particular event.
Ø For the labeling effect, supervisors need to be aware of their insights and preconceived

Patient Safety And The Medical Errors
In today s fast paced healthcare environment, patient safety as well as healthcare quality has become a
major priority. A growing focus on patient safety and the increasing medical errors has made various
healthcare management teams more proactive in identifying and preventing potential risks for patients.
While a great deal of progress has been made in recognizing most medical errors, it is also important
to note that in a healthcare environment there are a number of factors involved, therefore the strategies
used to reduce them vary as well. So, despite a healthcare provider s overall reputation, experience,
skills or knowledge in the healthcare field, there is always a slight possibility for a medical error to
take place, similar to our case of Mrs. Jonesky and Samantha Jones. Root Cause Analysis Definition
According to Dattilo and Constantino (2006), The most fundamental reason for the failure or
inefficiency of a process, in any work setting even the healthcare environment, is referred to as a root
cause . Root cause analysis (RCA) is the tedious process under which the healthcare providers take a
step back and analyze their potential mistakes, adverse events, or sentinel events in the operating room
and all areas of healthcare (Croteau, 2003). The primary goal of RCA is to overcome their mistakes, in
order to prevent future risks or damages caused to their patients. According to The Joint Commission,
most RCA is expected to take place within a 45 days limit, after

everybody live with their parents until they get married. Another difference is about the system of

students in Vietnam have to take extra classes at home with their private teacher. The parents will

Perceiving The Actual World Like An Economist Essay
Perceiving the Actual World Like an Economist Through out the entire book Freakonomics, Levitt and
Dubner, emphasize how people are constantly responding to incentives, and how these incentives
motivate and affect people s decision making in their daily lives. The authors of this book talk about
economics from a different perspective, and they do it by relating unusual and unasked questions to
the field of economics. Levitt and Dubner define an incentive as the means of urging people to do
more of a good thing and less of a bad thing (Levitt and Dubner 17). These incentives are usually what
drive people to get what they want or need especially when resources are scarce and others want the
same things. In this book, the authors define three types of incentives economic, social, and moral
which are measured by people s responses (Levitt and Dubner). From childhood, humans are
constantly responding to incentives and learning from them. In Chapter 1, Levitt and Dubner explain
some of those incentives by presenting a study based on 10 day care centers in Israel. The study
focused on the parents responses after the day care centers announced a $3 fine for each time they
picked up their kids 10 minutes later than the stated policy. The $3 fine caused the opposite effect that
the managers of the day care centers wanted: instead of reducing the number of tardy parents, it
caused an increase of the number of late pickups. The reason for the increase of tardiness pickups was

Images Of Witchcraft During Renaissance Culture
Images of Witchcraft in Renaissance Culture
The witchcraft phenomenon of the Renaissance period was shaped by a wide range of cultural factors;
witchcraft was not necessarily subject to a single cohesive idea or concept, and it was often instead a
conglomeration of many different societal concerns, concerns which spanned through all spheres of
society. Textual evidence from this period provides insight into the way in which witches were
conceived, and how witches were dealt with, while visual images present a companion visualisation of
the tensions, which influenced created the witch, and the imagery, which came to be associated with
witchcraft.
The 1486 Malleus Maleficarum set up the precedent for the witchcraft craze, which came to its prime
in the mid 16th century, during the Renaissance period. Though the Malleus was not the only factor in
this craze, as Margaret Sullivan notes, it made no discernable impact... for nearly half a century , it,
with a number of other social factors, provided a wealth of information to witch hunts and hunters.
This treatise further established several of the basic ideas essential to the identification of witches such
as the identification of witches as largely women; through the treatise s continual argument that
women were of gullible and carnal nature the text further advocated ideas of fear and hatred in regards
to women.
As the witch hunting period grew, the real fears and tensions which plagued all levels of society is

White American Bigotry
White Americans, who make a big share of policymakers, criminal equity professionals, the media,
and the overall population, overestimate the extent of felonies perpetrated by ethnic minorities and the
extent of racial minorities who carry out unlawful acts. Indeed, even people who condemn bigotry
regularly harbor unconscious and accidental racial inclinations. Researchers before 2010 focused their
studies on a how African Americans were perceived and how they were treated differently . Maxwell
in his work entitled The Impact of Race on the Adjudication of Sexual Assault and Other Violent
Crimes focuses on how white Americans are treated fairly compared to black litigants and Brennan s
work entitled Depictions Of Female Offenders In Front Page Newspaper Stories: The Importance Of
Race/Ethnicity depicts how black offenders have a negative image. Whereas the research that was

The Adelphia Scandal Essay
The Adelphia Scandal In 1952, John Rigas purchased his own cable company. By the late 1990 s, he

The Role Of Ninsun In The Epic Of Gilgamesh
In The Epic of Gilgamesh, gods were not divine, and did not have more sensibility than humans. They
were actually more childish and irrational than humans. Ninsun is a goddess and the mother of
Gilgamesh, also called as Wild cow (Gilgamesh, 222ff). She is famous for her wisdom. Shamash is
the god of sun. He came to Gilgamesh and Enkidu s aid when they attacked Humbaba, a demon who
guards the Cedar Forest, by using the power of the winds to restrain Humbaba long enough for
Gilgamesh to get in the killing blow. Shamash s arguments are not stronger than the other gods . Ishtar
is the principal goddess of Uruk (Gilgamesh, 222ff). She is present at Gilgamesh s celebration after
the death of Humbaba. She would have loved to become his wife, but Gilgamesh

Homelessness In Canada Essay
As the holiday season is right around the corner, you may be considering a few specific things you
will be asking for Christmas this year. A few ideas that might come to mind could be a new pair of
shoes, or the newest and hottest video game. While this might be true, there are many people out there
who have to find a roof over my head at the top of their list. Those with that wish are those people you
pass by everyday on the streets, shaking a tin can with the rustling sound of a couple loose change and
those Canadian Tire bills people just throw in. Those people are evidently homeless; as they depend
on the streets and a cardboard box for a home and a bed. At least 200,000 people experience
homelessness in Canada each year! To give you a better visualization, approximately 30,000
Canadians will spend their night unsheltered, tonight. That s more than 30,000 people waking up on
Christmas Day without a home to call their own [2]. Canada is known as a very developed country,
but we still suffer challenges like this. Topics to consider to why someone might fall into the
community of homelessness could be the following: poverty, unemployment, ... Show more content

the hundreds and thousands of people who suffer homelessness in Canada each year, most of them are

Non State Actors Essay
Environment now become a global issue. For that reason, non state actors such as: NGOs and activists
participate to solve this problem. However, their participations are almost affecting population s idea
or cooperating with firms and even lobbying policies (O Neil, 2009). These actions can be considered
as effort of non state actors, but not directly protect environment. Therefore, non state actors alone is
not enough to deal with environmental problems that require a dependence of them on state actors.
This essay will present, analyze the functions of non state actors and will illustrate the relation
between them and states. It cannot be denied the important role of non state actors in order to tackle
environmental issues. Firstly, the propaganda tools and persuasions are an effective method of non
state actors in almost case for influencing people and businesses about the importance of protecting
the environment. According to D Estries (2015), environmental NGOs such as: WWF or Greenpeace

Graffiti Vandalism Essay
Is graffiti vandalism or art? Many people say that graffiti is art, while others disagree saying its
vandalism. In my opinion, graffiti is art. This type of art can be understood in different ways and can
be considered as vandalism. It really all depends on what the picture expresses to you and what you
see. But everyone has their own opinions and everyone sees everything differently. While many of
these artists who are extremely talented and spend most of their time on their pieces, our society has
labeled them as vandals that damage private property.

For most people, graffiti is nothing more than splotches on a wall. But to those people who admire it,
graffiti is a technique that is changing the way we look at spray paint.
It may be called art, but I don t like it, (DuBois, 2015). Most of these artists who haven t been
recognized by galleries, risk themselves on a daily basis. This is their job, expressing their pain or
happiness on a piece. Each time you pass a piece on a wall just ask yourself, What could they be going
through? Art is expressed in so many ways. Graffiti is spread all over the world.
Graffiti artists have the constant threat of facing consequences for displaying their art. Many of them
choose to protect their identities so they remain anonymous. Banksy is the world s most notorious and
well known street artists who to this day remains faceless in today s society. His tags are well known
for his anti war, political stencil art. His work is seen from Bristol, England to anywhere from Los
Angeles to Palestine. Pixnit is another artist who chooses to keep their identity anonymous. Her art
focuses on beauty and design aspects of graffiti.
The term graffiti art essentially describes the post 1960s for decorating the urban environment through
the use of aerosol spray paint. The development structure links with the underground hip hop culture
and b boying. The B boys, the first examples of hip hop used graffiti as a way to express frustration

The Impact Of The Internet And The Computer Revolution
INTORDUCTION
The computer revolution that started in middle of the 20th Century is potentially just as significant as
the industrial revolution that began two centuries before it and may well turn out to have even more
impact on the way that human beings live, work and communicate with each other. One of the major
developments to come out of the advances in computer and communication technology was the
creation of the internet, an innovation with effects on the economic and social development of
humanity that are still evolving and being assessed .2
The internet revolution has transformed the way we live, work, communicate and do business,
creating new techniques that are a feature of our daily lives. The effects may not all be positive,
however. Increasing restrictions and spying by governments, individual privacy, child pornography,
Internet frauds, bullying are just a few examples of negatives that the internet has brought with it.
Usage of Internet
Internet availability is not limited to computers or laptops now a days. Even mobile phones with
internet facility are available at affordable process helping indirectly the internet to reach maximum
number of users. In the recent years everything is related or trying to relate to internet. Television took
more than 25 years to reach 10 million users where as computers took more than 10 years to reach the
same number. But internet took less than 5 years to reach the same number.
In developing countries like India more than 40% of people are using internet and the purposes of
internet usage is diverse. People are using internet for social networking, to know news instantly, to
listen to music, to search or know something etc.3
Many positive and negative aspects of the internet affect our society. One major impact the internet is
used for today is communication for people working. Communication has a positive

I chose to observe the Marble Column with Vine Decoration. I chose his piece because of its relation
to architecture because of the interest that I have in it. This column is about six feet tall and made of
solid marble. It is covered with winding vines that are convexly carved and begin at the base of the
column and ascend to the top. The column is situated in a corner which does not permit the viewer to
walk all the way around the object easily. It is placed near other Roman and Greek objects as well as

upwards around the column in opposite directions. There are smaller chutes that stem off from the

the leaves, the vine is likely a grape vine. There are about 70 leaves on the whole column and they are
each intricately carved. Each leaf has a dentate margin and distinct sinus and lobes. The vast majority
of leaves are being viewed from the front but there are two seemingly randomly placed leaves that are
carved in profile. There are also about twenty two berries. They are interspersed across the surface of
the column within six sets. Four of the sets contain three berries, one set contains five berries, and the
last set may either contain five or six berries (the quality of the carving obscures the true image). The

Treaty Of Versailles Dbq Essay
The treaty solved none of the major problems which caused the Great War in the first place. France,
Great Britain, and Italy wanted to make sure Germany would never be a military threat again so they
wanted to avenge the war by making Germany take all the blame for starting the war. Germany was
not even permitted to send delegates to the conference. Huge reparation payments were awarded the
allies and Germany was never able to make the payments which only weakened her poor economic
situation, and it became worse with the onset of the Depression of the 1930s. All of Germany s
colonies were taken from them and they were not permitted to have a military other than a national
police force. Hitler would later use the treaty as the cause of all the problems faced by Germany and
convince the people that he could restore national pride and world recognition of Germany as an equal
nation. The treaty of Versailles helped cause world war II by demanding that they pay billions in
reparation, forcing them to sign the war guilt clause, taking vital land away from them, and most
importantly greatly restricting Germanys military. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Rashormon by Akira Kurosawa
The narrative in Akira Kurosawa s 1950 Rashomon is famous for its unconventional style and
structure, its method of storytelling is based on the characters perception of the truth, in film and
television it is often referred to as the Rashomon effect. The visual style and symmetry are compelling
proponents of the films symbolism, Kurosawa s use of sunlight and dark shadows symbolizes the
clarity of the story, an example would be the use of sunlight as good faith and the shadows as a dark
impulse. The film tells the story of one event with four different accounts to it, each story is altered so
that the truth is distorted or otherwise based on each characters perception of what has transpired.
Kurosawa used four different alternate versions in the story as the narrative in the film, it is structured
so the audience could have their own thoughts and perception of the real truth. Kurosawa also uses the
philosophy of justice to show how human nature and moral relativism cannot tell the absolute truth
without the bias of ones experience, in other words the problem with the truth is that it is based on
perception. Kurosawa adapted the story plot and characters from In the Grove written by Ryūnosuke
Akutagawa, he wanted the film to be objective keep the characters perfectly aligned with the original
story by Ryūnosuke Akutagawa. The narrative of the film Rashomon is based on the perception of
each character that participated in the event that occurs in the film, so in some ways

Weyerhaeuser s Performance Management Process
Weyerhaeuser s Performance Management Process
Weyerhaeuser uses a pay for performance system and utilizes a performance management process
(PMP) to evaluate employee s annual performance and that performance rating is used in calculating
the individual s merit pay increase. Over the years, Weyerhaeuser s pay for performance compensation
strategy has undergone several changes and improvements. The company utilizes merit increases
where an individual s yearly increase is based on how well they have performed against objectives.
Performance management is directly tied to compensation in a pay for performance system and is
based on how well an individual performs during the year against specific, measurable goals is tied to
how much they will receive in a merit pay system. According to Milkovich, Newman and Gerhart
(2014, p. 337), a merit pay system links increases in base pay (called merit increases) to how highly
employees are rated on a performance evaluation. How well your merit pay system works and is seen
by the employees as effective, fair, and a tool to increase motivation and retention is based on how
well performance is actually measured and the ability to quantify performance. Though there are
challenges with the merit pay system, Heathfield (n.d., par. 9) shares, even with the limitations that
exist in the awarding of merit pay, merit pay is your best opportunity to ensure that your outstanding

Home Schooling vs. Public Schools
Home Schooling vs. Public Schools Not so long ago, home schooling was something that most people
had not even considered as a schooling option. In 1969, Raymond Moore and John Holt laid the
groundwork for one of the greatest educational movements of our time. Since that time, the option of
home schooling has expanded. The three different views about education are those people who believe
that home schooling is the best form of education; those people who believe that public school is the
best form of education; and those people who believe that private school provide the best education.
Those who view that home schooling is the best option believe they can teach their children, using
home examples and guiding their children through their beliefs to impart a deeper appreciation and
understanding of the education and information that is presented. Susanne Allen, 35, a home schooling
mother from Atlanta, claims that being schooled at home will make her children better citizens
because home schooling gives children the opportunity to work together rather than working
individually. Allen said, They learn to be caring for other people by seeing older siblings care for them
(Cloud par.16). Home Schooling test scores are typically higher than public or private schools. Some
believe that home schooling is the best option because public schools breed behavioral problems.
Those who choose home schooling believe that the pros outweigh the cons. One of the traditional

The Importance Of Government Censorship On Social Media
In an age where more and more people are using social media for both personal and professional
reasons, there is an increasing amount of government censorship, as well as self censorship, evident
on widely used social media platforms. After conducting research on this topic, I have discovered the
very fine line between using social networking sites for personal uses versus professional uses.
According to scholars, while only 47% of nonacademics use social media for professional purposes,
about 91% of university faculty members use social networking sites in class or for other professional
reasons (Moran, Seaman, Tinti Kane, 2011). Professionals, particularly academic professionals, have
to keep a squeaky clean presence on social media. In this paper, I will discuss my research regarding
self censorship on social media, government intervention and censorship and what that means for the
American principle of free speech, and tell some stories of individuals who have personal experiences
with these problems.
Freedom of speech is a basic right in America, granted to citizens by the Frist Amendment to the
Constitution of the United States. Many countries do not have laws protecting free speech, and in fact
have censorship laws that do the exact opposite. Many Americans as well as other people around the
world use social media as a means of expressing their own views and opinions on topics such as
politics, world news, social justice issues, and simply to express themselves as

Children And Their Use Of Technology
Toddlers and Technology Children and their use of technology is a debate that has existed since using
technology in a home became customary. At some point in everyone s earlier years, they heard adults
say don t sit too close to the TV or it will rot your brain out, or cause you to go cross eyed? It is now
2014 and there has never been a confirmed case of brain rotting or crossed vision due to the
television! In recent years this discussion has turned to the interaction young children have with cell
phones and tablets. Weekly, if not daily, there are new apps specifically designed for these young
minds hitting the market, our toddlers now have dexterity that adults are trying to master! How much
is too much? What are the long term effects? Are we raising un social little techies? These questions
consume minds of parents today, and researchers have put much time and effort into researching this
topic for decades. The objective of this study was to observe young children in a public setting to see
how many were actually interacting with mobile devices.
The observation technique used was as a participant observer, the specific goal to observe the use of

Effectiveness of the Tory and Whig Arguments Prior to the American Revolution In the eighteenth
century, the American Revolution played a vital role in determining the future of the American
colonies. Prior to the Revolution, propagandas from both the Tories and Whigs influenced the choices
that Americans make. Both sides exchanged attacks and accusations in their publications, while also
presenting realistic evidence and logical reasoning to back their doctrine and arguments. Two of the
many documents preceding the Revolution are especially interesting in terms of their structure of

He then provides logical reasons for his claims throughout the document, focusing on the issue of
those agreements. This structure is extremely effective, given that the arguments are sequential and
connected. Likewise, Common Sense has a similar structure that also creates a comparatively same
degree of effectiveness. The document first proposes its doctrine, ...as much hath been said of the
advantages of reconciliation, which, like an agreeable dream, hath passed away..., [3] and then
answers each of the charges the Tories make. Unlike the structure of the earlier document, Common
Sense poses a question or an accusation from the Tories, and rebuts it with the Whigs doctrine and
Paine s reasoning. The structure of this document is more effective in terms of impact. As in the earlier
document, the reverend does not counter Whigs view, but only express his opinions about them.
Contrary, this document offers a scope of the Tories point, and persuades the Americans that the
Whigs view is more logical by comparing the two sides. In short, Common Sense is more effective
than the Letters of a Westchester Farmer in terms of structure, due to its more comprehensive
reasoning behind the doctrines. Besides the structure, the validity

Dental Hygiene Reflection
In elementary school, one of my favorite days in grade school would be when my mom came in for
her oral hygiene lessons. Even though my mom could have easily demonstrated proper techniques on
how to brush and floss teeth with a dental model for my classes, she knew how excited I would always
get when she called on me to personally demonstrate. I would brush in confidence those tooth
surfaces, at a 45 degree angle and with small circular strokes. Promptly in the lesson, I would put the
toothbrush vertically for those inside surfaces of my front teeth. My mom would end the brushing
technique with a friendly reminder to brush for a full two minutes, twice a day. She also told the kids
to think of triangles and to floss along the mesial and distal surfaces of their teeth, rather than straight
down and cutting their gums. With every upcoming yearly demonstration, I honed that routine of

In today s world, tourism has become one of the key factors of many countries, which contributes
significantly not only to the countries economies, but it also helps resolving lots of problems such as

of people travelling and staying in places outside their usual environment for not more than one year
for leisure, business, and other purposes. Nevertheless, in order to stay overseas for a period of time,
travelers have to use the currency of the country that they are staying by exchanging with their own

is influenced by the interest rates, inflation rate, political stability, and so on. However, the currency
exchange rates among countries are changing every day. Consequently, tourism will be affected by the

Albert Einstein once said, Nothing will benefit human health and increase the chances for survival of
life on earth as much as the evolution to a vegetarian diet. Many enlightened and intelligent people
have along with Einstein come to realize that the problems Americans face with health and the
environment can be solved with simply partaking in the more compassionate lifestyle accredited to the
vegetarian movement. Americans should adopt vegetarian diets because they are more beneficial to
one s health, more sustainable for the environment, and more ethical than the standard Western diet.
Adopting a vegetarian diet has exceptional health benefits that can t be ignored. For instance, in the

Innocence In The Kite Runner

Innocence is a word most commonly associate with children, yet this is not the case when it comes to
the movie Elf. Elf tells the story of one of santa s elves, Buddy, discovering his own human identity
and embarking on a journey to find his biological father. Buddy often makes child like remarks, such

In the book The Kite Runner, by Khaled Hosseini, innocence can be found in several of the main
characters. One such character is the servant Hassan, childhood friend of the main character, Amir.
Hassan undergoes several tragedies throughout his lifetime. One such example is when he is raped.
Years later, Amir receives a letter from Hassan and acknowledges that It was written in Farsi. No dots
were omitted, no crosses forgotten, no words blurred together the handwriting was almost childlike in
its neatness (Hosseini 461). Hassan retains the innocence of his youth. Even after he has had terrible
experiences, he still has an air of innocence about him. Another character who displays this trait is
Hassan s son Sohrab. During an ordeal similar to what his father had gone thorough, Amir says, He
[the Talib] locked his arms around Sohrab s belly, rested his chin on the boy s shoulder. Sohrab looked
down at his feet, but kept stealing shy, furtive glances at me (Hosseini 593). These actions showcase
Sohrab s inherent innocence. Sohrab is still young and holds onto his innocence in the midst of
tragedy. All in all, innocence shows up frequently in literature, best shown by its widespread

High alveolar ventilation brings more O2 into the alveoli, increasing O2 , and rapidly eliminating CO2
from the lungs (for chemical abbreviations see Table 2). Partial pressure of gases Dalton s law
explains the partial pressure of a gas, which is the pressure exerted by a gas within a mixture of gases
independent of each gas in the mixture (Marieb, 2004). The partial pressure of each gas is directly
proportional to its percentage in the total mixture and in air is determined by atmospheric pressure.
Atmospheric pressure is 101 kPa (760 mmHg), 21% of this air is oxygen, and the partial pressure of
oxygen (PO2 ) in atmospheric air is: 21 × 101 = 21.2 kPa 100 Within the alveoli the PO2 is different
to air because of enrichment in the air passages (dead space) with CO2 and water vapour. Alveolar air
contains much more CO2 and water vapour and much less O2 and so makes a greater contribution to
the near atmospheric pressure in the lungs, then they do in air. This is due to: gas exchanges occurring
in the lungs, humidification of air by the conducting passages, mixing of gases in the dead space
(contains air not involved in gaseous exchange) between the nose and alveoli. In alveoli, PO2
averages only 13.2 kPa (100 mmHg). Continuous consumption of O2 and production of CO2 in the
cells means that there is a partial pressure gradient both in the lungs and at the tissue level

Argumentative Essay About Pennies
To American Citizens,
Chance are, you ve likely used a penny in your lifetime. Everywhere you look, you ll find pennies.
Between your couch cushions or on the street, pennies are everywhere. But have you ever thought,
how much do pennies cost, and why do we still use them? We need to get the United States Mint to
stop production of the penny and slowly take it out of circulation. This is only possible if we all band
together and demand a change in our currency.
Before we finally agree to do away with the penny, let s learn a little bit more about its history. The
penny, the first currency of any type authorized by the U.S. government, was initially struck in 1787,
though it didn t become legal tender until 1856. Since then, more than 300 billion one cent coins have
been minted. Abraham Lincoln became the first U.S. president to adorn a coin when he was put on the
penny in 1909 on the 100th anniversary of his birth (he wasn t added to the $5 bill until 1914). The
Lincoln penny was also the first to include the inscription In God We Trust ( Should We Eliminate the
Penny? ) If the penny seems like an ancient artifact, that s because it is. Pennies were made over 200
years ago. Don t you think in such a fluctuating and constantly changing economy, a newer form of
currency would be necessary?

Reasons For The Compromise Of 1850
September 8,1850, the Compromise of 1850 was drafted in order to keep the continuous peace
throughout the union. HISTORY.COM writes, The compromise was the last major involvement in
national affairs of Senators Henry Clay of Kentucky, Daniel Webster of Massachusetts, and John C.
Calhoun of South Carolina, all of whom had had exceptional careers in the Senate. Calhoun died the
same year, and Clay and Webster two years later. The book American History by Brinkley goes into
the details for the compromise, this document would admit California in as a free state, the formation
of territorial governments in the rest of the lands acquired from Mexico, without restrictions on
slavery; the abolition of the slave trade, but not slavery itself, in the ... Show more content on

HISTORYPLACE.COM writes, After the Kansas Nebraska Act was passed, pro slavery and anti
slavery supporters rushed in to settle Kansas to affect the outcome of the first election held there after
the law went into effect. Pro slavery settlers carried the election but were charged with fraud by anti
slavery settlers, and the results were not accepted by them. The anti slavery settlers held another
election, however pro slavery settlers refused to vote. This resulted in the establishment of two
opposing legislatures within the Kansas territory. Violence soon erupted, with the anti slavery forces
led by John Brown. The territory earned the nickname bleeding Kansas as the death toll rose. The
book American History by Brinkley shows the populous just how effective the Kansas Nebraska Act
really was. This compromise put in place a new, second territory (Kansas) because congress thought
that Kansas was more likely to become a slave state; as usual congress was wrong, Kansas had voted
to become a free state and because of popular sovereignty they were able to do this; however, they
held the election again this time allowing Missourians to vote as well, and they did in fact become a
slave state. HISTORY.COM explains, Stephen A. Douglas, wanting to ensure a northern
transcontinental railroad route that would benefit his Illinois constituents, introduced a bill to organize
the territory of Nebraska in order to bring the area under civil control. But southern senators objected;
the region lay north of latitude 36°30′ and so under the terms of the Missouri Compromise of 1820
would become a free state. To gain the southerners support, Douglas proposed creating two territories
in the area Kansas and Nebraska and repealing the Missouri Compromise line. The question of
whether the territories would be slave or free would be left to the settlers under

Theme Of Nature In Jane Eyre
After struggling to find a new home, Jane finally finds Moor House where everything grows in
harmony with and echoes its environment (Fuller 160). This reflects the spectacular, new family she
finds in St. John, Mary, and Diana. This is a significant change from any other location where Jane has
stayed before as she is now able to sit in the sunshine, calm[ly] and sweet[ly] (Brontë 373), and nature
almost climbs through the window to embrace the house s inhabitants (Fuller 160), symbolizing that
Jane is very close to achieving her goal of freedom. Jane s new life is her version of perfection, or so
she thinks. This perfection comes crashing down due to one of the house s inhabitants: St. John. St.
John pushes Jane away from nature as he is separate from an antagonistic towards the balance
between humanity and nature (Fuller 161), because of this, Brontë changes the weather back to its
cold, dark ways to show Jane that it is time to move on again. As Jane and St. John s interactions
increase a whirling storm continue[s] all night (Brontë 383). St. John s marriage proposal truly throws
Jane for a loop and due to his persistence, Jane cannot find peace at Moor House as long as St. John
disrupts her connection with the natural world (Fuller 161). The storms increase until it finally reaches
a climax, the frozen hurricane (Brontë 383), where Jane finds herself trapped in her own real life
disaster. While Moor House began as an idyllic paradise (Fuller 161) for

Rhetorical Analysis Of Bill Clinton s Speech
In order to ensure her speech resonated in the mind of leaders from around the world, Clinton at times
uses and authoritative and urgent tone, while also utilizing techniques such as repetition. At one point
in her speech, Clinton s tone shifted as she became extremely passionate. She cried, the history of
women has been a history of silence. Even today, there are those who are trying to silence our words.
But the voices of this conference and of the women at Huairou must be heard loudly and clearly: It is
a violation of human rights when babies are denied food, or drowned, or suffocated, or their spines
broken, simply because they are born girls. It is a violation of human rights when women and girls are
sold into the slavery of prostitution for human greed and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Clinton takes a bold move to demand action from the leaders at the conference and in order to do that
she must shift her tone to represent the authority she wants to present. There is another time in her
speech where Clinton used an anaphora. Another point Clinton made sure to repeat is that families will
flourish (Clinton) when women are healthy and educated , full and equal partners in society , and free
from violence (Clinton). A major point in Clinton s speech was that in order to help all people to
succeed, women must first be allowed to succeed, and the people that will be directly affected because
of this success would be the families. Clinton understood that the well being of families is a point that
would connect her audience because it is a topic that concerned most people, so she made sure to
repeat that phrase several times. The mention of families is so important because even though there
were so many people who opposed her speech, but they were also groups that were concerned for the
well being of families, so she was able to use families to unite even the people who are against her.
When looking at the diction of Clinton s speech, she uses three different types of word

Comparing Thompson And Trotter
Ahmir Questlove Thompson and Tariq Black Thought Trotter has always been themselves. In a time
where rappers or hip hop artist carried the stigma of criminality or some other nefarious act, these
gentlemen remained intelligent and social aware while producing the music that they love, seen at the
time has divisive and threatening. Trotter told stories of inner city youth seeking a better life despite
the ills most confronted with every day, some since birth. In every interview, Thompson and Trotter
clearly projected their thoughts in ways that anyone could relate to and understand regardless of their
socioeconomic status or level of education. Both a product of the Philadelphia High School for the

  • 2. A Myriad Of Battles Make Up War Essay A myriad of battles make up war. Physical force is used to make an opponent inept to further confrontation. War is thus an art of force to compel our enemy to do our will. In human history, the 20th century was the bloodiest, priciest century of warfare. Since 1914, there have been two world wars, and several major revolutions such as the Russia Civil War, the Vietnam War, and the Gulf War among others. According to Clausewitz, war is an inherent subset of politics where every military act has political consequences. Politics is about power, and war is a violent expression of disagreements and tensions arising among political groups. He argues that the intrinsic feature of war demonstrates a clear relationship between war and politics. Time and again, the overpowered state regards the result purely as a temporary evil for which a resolve may still be found in political situations. Whereas, it is expected that militarily powerful states would win war against their weak adversaries, they have sometimes failed in achieving their desired political outcomes. This essay endeavors to look into some contributing factors to these failures and point out what strategies should do to increase their likelihood of success. First, poor choice of strategy and ill preparedness will affect war outcome. Heavily militarized states lose war when they apply wrong strategy as opposed to their adversary. For example during the post World War Two wars of independence in Indochina and Algeria, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. The Father In Cormac Mccarthy s The Road The road by Cormac McCarthy follows a boy and his father as they venture across a quiet, wet, traitorous, post apocalyptic setting of earth. McCarthy creates the imagery of a rough, weathered west coast as the boy and his father slowly attempt to fight their way to warmer weather as winter starts to fall. McCarthy s, the road is terrifying yet complex and mysterious at the same time powered by McCarthy s emotions and visions of the 2006 fight against terror in the united states. McCarthy s inquisitive and unique style of writing is continued in this novel through the use of grammatical errors and prolonged sentences, he does this to bend the readers mind into imagining a long, grueling road with no breaks or ease as this closely resembles the boy and his fathers journey throughout the novel. The development of the relationship between the father and the son also chops and changes throughout the text. It begins with the son being very reliant on his father to take care and nourish him with attention and knowledge The father s loving efforts to shepherd his son are made that much more wrenching by the unavailability of food, shelter, safety, companionship or hope in most places where they scavenge to survive, therefore the son is forced to grow ... • 6. Roles And Roles Of Women The roles of gender are changing rapidly. Throughout U.S. history men have played dominant roles and were always the family breadwinners. As women get more education and make more money they are becoming the primarily breadwinners of their families. More women are working outside the home and their earnings are important to the well being of their families. What are the effect on their families, careers and equal wages? The days of mom staying at home full time are long gone for most families. More women are their family s breadwinners than ever before. Heather Boushey in The New Breadwinners, states Women are more likely to work outside the home and their earning are more important to their families well being than ever before in our nation s history (31). In families today there s no one staying at home in the day, so there no one there when kids come home from school with everyday life. Boushey wrote, nearly 4 in 10 mothers (39.3 percent) are primary breadwinners, bringing home the majority of the family s earning and nearly two thirds (62.8percent) are breadwinners or co breadwinners bringing home at least a quarter of the family earning. • 8. Food Self Provisioning Food is, quite simply, essential. Without it, life can only exist for a short period of time. How we manage to produce enough food to survive will have an impact on the environment as the food systems we use can both contribute to environmental damage and yet be affected by it in turn (Jehlicka Raghuram, 2013). Given that agriculture contributes a substantial amount of Greenhouse Gasses (over 50% combined) means that food systems are at the heart of climate change (Jehlicka Raghuram, 2013). Food systems are the methods by which we produce (farming, agriculture, fishing etc), process (treat, process, package etc), store (ambient, chilled, frozen and housing), transport (locally, regionally, globally, air, sea, land etc) and dispose of items ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Food self provisioning represents a very different kind of relationship between humans, food and the environment. Food self provisioning and sharing the excess are generally social practices with low environmental impacts; these, in turn, promote social community bonds which are compatible with sustainability (Jehlicka, 2013b). It requires little research effort, has no governmental intervention (unless the use of allotments is involved) and practices vary widely around the world. Food self provisioning is generally environmentally and socially sustainable. It follows that if an individual changes their agency (whether through a change in values or beliefs or out of conscience) and that individual then changes their behaviour, they may set a precedent that others then follow. (Jehlicka, 2013b). Research shows that these practices promote local social, ecological and environmental resilience by strengthening networks of cooperation between families, friends, neighbours and co workers (Jehlicka, 2013b). Alongside this is the reduction of waste as surplus is distributed amongst networks that encompass urban and rural family and friends, which also has the added benefit of reducing excess resource and energy consumption; this is both socially and environmentally sustainable. It gives practitioners control over what they produce as on a very general level food self provisioning involves very modest amounts (if any) of fossil fuel based and/or fertilisers and pesticides. This, along with that fact that little (if any) fossil fuel is used in the transportation of goods as these will mainly distributed locally (Jehlicka, 2013b). Added to this is that products also tend to result in much less packaging and waste; even the methods of preservation whether that be drying, salting, pickling, smoking, fermenting, canning, freezing and dehydrating will often have higher levels of ... This song is an inspirational song that allows people to reveal themselves to the true world instead of keeping it a secret. Katy is trying to portray the fact that people should not be afraid to represent the way they truly are. She wants everyone to show his or her true colors . In a sense, Katy wants to people to embrace what they are. In the first few lines she states, Do you ever feel like a plastic bag. Drifting through the wind. Wanting to start again (Fireworks). This part of the song reveals that a lot of people go with the flow. They just follow the norms of society and do not fight against it. She continues on to talk about how people continue to go with the flow until she states, Do you know that there s still a chance for you. Cause there s a spark in you (Fireworks). Come and show em what you re worth. Make em go oh, oh, oh! As you shoot across the sky y y (Fireworks). When you do reveal yourself, it will feel like a huge burden is lifted off your shoulders. It is important to note that phonetics and phonology were not independent disciplines. Rather, they were part of other disciplines. Ø On comparing employees, write their evaluations at different times, which will give the supervisor time to center on one employee at a time. Ø For the central tendency effect, supervisors need to identify problem areas with identifiable solutions and the leadership to resolve these problem areas. By providing information that is constructive, the supervisor is helping the person become an improved person. Ø On the pitchfork effect, supervisors need to remember that they are evaluating the employee for the entire time frame indicated on the evaluation. A growing focus on patient safety and the increasing medical errors has made various healthcare management teams more proactive in identifying and preventing potential risks for patients. While a great deal of progress has been made in recognizing most medical errors, it is also important to note that in a healthcare environment there are a number of factors involved, therefore the strategies used to reduce them vary as well. So, despite a healthcare provider s overall reputation, experience, skills or knowledge in the healthcare field, there is always a slight possibility for a medical error to take place, similar to our case of Mrs. Jonesky and Samantha Jones. Root cause analysis (RCA) is the tedious process under which the healthcare providers take a step back and analyze their potential mistakes, adverse events, or sentinel events in the operating room and all areas of healthcare (Croteau, 2003). Perceiving The Actual World Like An Economist Essay Perceiving the Actual World Like an Economist Through out the entire book Freakonomics, Levitt and Dubner, emphasize how people are constantly responding to incentives, and how these incentives motivate and affect people s decision making in their daily lives. The authors of this book talk about economics from a different perspective, and they do it by relating unusual and unasked questions to the field of economics. Levitt and Dubner define an incentive as the means of urging people to do more of a good thing and less of a bad thing (Levitt and Dubner 17). These incentives are usually what drive people to get what they want or need especially when resources are scarce and others want the same things. In this book, the authors define three types of incentives economic, social, and moral which are measured by people s responses (Levitt and Dubner). From childhood, humans are constantly responding to incentives and learning from them. In Chapter 1, Levitt and Dubner explain some of those incentives by presenting a study based on 10 day care centers in Israel. The study focused on the parents responses after the day care centers announced a $3 fine for each time they picked up their kids 10 minutes later than the stated policy. The $3 fine caused the opposite effect that the managers of the day care centers wanted: instead of reducing the number of tardy parents, it caused an increase of the number of late pickups. • 19. Images Of Witchcraft During Renaissance Culture Images of Witchcraft in Renaissance Culture The witchcraft phenomenon of the Renaissance period was shaped by a wide range of cultural factors; witchcraft was not necessarily subject to a single cohesive idea or concept, and it was often instead a conglomeration of many different societal concerns, concerns which spanned through all spheres of society. Textual evidence from this period provides insight into the way in which witches were conceived, and how witches were dealt with, while visual images present a companion visualisation of the tensions, which influenced created the witch, and the imagery, which came to be associated with witchcraft. The 1486 Malleus Maleficarum set up the precedent for the witchcraft craze, which came to its prime in the mid 16th century, during the Renaissance period. Though the Malleus was not the only factor in this craze, as Margaret Sullivan notes, it made no discernable impact... for nearly half a century , it, with a number of other social factors, provided a wealth of information to witch hunts and hunters. This treatise further established several of the basic ideas essential to the identification of witches such as the identification of witches as largely women; through the treatise s continual argument that women were of gullible and carnal nature the text further advocated ideas of fear and hatred in regards to women. This made everyone who utilized the stadium a stakeholder as well. The stakeholders were harmed because when Adelphia went bankrupt, the coliseum was not completely paid for. In 1969, Raymond Moore and John Holt laid the groundwork for one of the greatest educational movements of our time. Since that time, the option of home schooling has expanded. The three different views about education are those people who believe that home schooling is the best form of education; those people who believe that public school is the best form of education; and those people who believe that private school provide the best education. Those who view that home schooling is the best option believe they can teach their children, using home examples and guiding their children through their beliefs to impart a deeper appreciation and understanding of the education and information that is presented. In the book The Kite Runner, by Khaled Hosseini, innocence can be found in several of the main characters. One such character is the servant Hassan, childhood friend of the main character, Amir. Hassan undergoes several tragedies throughout his lifetime. One such example is when he is raped. Years later, Amir receives a letter from Hassan and acknowledges that It was written in Farsi. No dots were omitted, no crosses forgotten, no words blurred together the handwriting was almost childlike in its neatness (Hosseini 461). Hassan retains the innocence of his youth. Even after he has had terrible experiences, he still has an air of innocence about him. Another character who displays this trait is Hassan s son Sohrab. During an ordeal similar to what his father had gone thorough, Amir says, He [the Talib] locked his arms around Sohrab s belly, rested his chin on the boy s shoulder. Sohrab looked down at his feet, but kept stealing shy, furtive glances at me (Hosseini 593). These actions showcase Sohrab s inherent innocence. Sohrab is still young and holds onto his innocence in the midst of tragedy. All in all, innocence shows up frequently in literature, best shown by its widespread occurrence in The Kite ... High alveolar ventilation brings more O2 into the alveoli, increasing O2 , and rapidly eliminating CO2 from the lungs (for chemical abbreviations see Table 2). Partial pressure of gases Dalton s law explains the partial pressure of a gas, which is the pressure exerted by a gas within a mixture of gases independent of each gas in the mixture (Marieb, 2004). The partial pressure of each gas is directly proportional to its percentage in the total mixture and in air is determined by atmospheric pressure. Atmospheric pressure is 101 kPa (760 mmHg), 21% of this air is oxygen, and the partial pressure of oxygen (PO2 ) in atmospheric air is: 21 × 101 = 21.2 kPa 100 Within the alveoli the PO2 is different to air because of enrichment in the air passages (dead space) with CO2 and water vapour. Alveolar air contains much more CO2 and water vapour and much less O2 and so makes a greater contribution to the near atmospheric pressure in the lungs, then they do in air. This is due to: gas exchanges occurring in the lungs, humidification of air by the conducting passages, mixing of gases in the dead space (contains air not involved in gaseous exchange) between the nose and alveoli. In alveoli, PO2 averages only 13.2 kPa (100 mmHg). Continuous consumption of O2 and production of CO2 in the cells means that there is a partial pressure gradient both in the lungs and at the tissue level ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Argumentative Essay About Pennies To American Citizens, Chance are, you ve likely used a penny in your lifetime. Everywhere you look, you ll find pennies. Between your couch cushions or on the street, pennies are everywhere. But have you ever thought, how much do pennies cost, and why do we still use them? We need to get the United States Mint to stop production of the penny and slowly take it out of circulation. This is only possible if we all band together and demand a change in our currency. Before we finally agree to do away with the penny, let s learn a little bit more about its history. The penny, the first currency of any type authorized by the U.S. government, was initially struck in 1787, though it didn t become legal tender until 1856. Since then, more than 300 billion one cent coins have been minted. Abraham Lincoln became the first U.S. president to adorn a coin when he was put on the penny in 1909 on the 100th anniversary of his birth (he wasn t added to the $5 bill until 1914). The Lincoln penny was also the first to include the inscription In God We Trust ( Should We Eliminate the Penny? ) If the penny seems like an ancient artifact, that s because it is. Pennies were made over 200 years ago. Don t you think in such a fluctuating and constantly changing economy, a newer form of currency would be necessary? To put it simply, ... • 47. Reasons For The Compromise Of 1850 September 8,1850, the Compromise of 1850 was drafted in order to keep the continuous peace throughout the union. HISTORY.COM writes, The compromise was the last major involvement in national affairs of Senators Henry Clay of Kentucky, Daniel Webster of Massachusetts, and John C. Calhoun of South Carolina, all of whom had had exceptional careers in the Senate. Calhoun died the same year, and Clay and Webster two years later. The book American History by Brinkley goes into the details for the compromise, this document would admit California in as a free state, the formation of territorial governments in the rest of the lands acquired from Mexico, without restrictions on slavery; the abolition of the slave trade, but not slavery itself, in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... HISTORYPLACE.COM writes, After the Kansas Nebraska Act was passed, pro slavery and anti slavery supporters rushed in to settle Kansas to affect the outcome of the first election held there after the law went into effect. Pro slavery settlers carried the election but were charged with fraud by anti slavery settlers, and the results were not accepted by them. The anti slavery settlers held another election, however pro slavery settlers refused to vote. This resulted in the establishment of two opposing legislatures within the Kansas territory. Violence soon erupted, with the anti slavery forces led by John Brown. The territory earned the nickname bleeding Kansas as the death toll rose. The book American History by Brinkley shows the populous just how effective the Kansas Nebraska Act really was. This compromise put in place a new, second territory (Kansas) because congress thought that Kansas was more likely to become a slave state; as usual congress was wrong, Kansas had voted to become a free state and because of popular sovereignty they were able to do this; however, they held the election again this time allowing Missourians to vote as well, and they did in fact become a slave state. HISTORY.COM explains, Stephen A. Douglas, wanting to ensure a northern transcontinental railroad route that would benefit his Illinois constituents, introduced a bill to organize the territory of Nebraska in order to bring the area under civil control. But southern senators objected; the region lay north of latitude 36°30′ and so under the terms of the Missouri Compromise of 1820 would become a free state. To gain the southerners support, Douglas proposed creating two territories in the area Kansas and Nebraska and repealing the Missouri Compromise line. The question of whether the territories would be slave or free would be left to the settlers under ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Theme Of Nature In Jane Eyre After struggling to find a new home, Jane finally finds Moor House where everything grows in harmony with and echoes its environment (Fuller 160). This reflects the spectacular, new family she finds in St. John, Mary, and Diana. This is a significant change from any other location where Jane has stayed before as she is now able to sit in the sunshine, calm[ly] and sweet[ly] (Brontë 373), and nature almost climbs through the window to embrace the house s inhabitants (Fuller 160), symbolizing that Jane is very close to achieving her goal of freedom. Jane s new life is her version of perfection, or so she thinks. This perfection comes crashing down due to one of the house s inhabitants: St. John. St. John pushes Jane away from nature as he is separate from an antagonistic towards the balance between humanity and nature (Fuller 161), because of this, Brontë changes the weather back to its cold, dark ways to show Jane that it is time to move on again. As Jane and St. John s interactions increase a whirling storm continue[s] all night (Brontë 383). St. John s marriage proposal truly throws Jane for a loop and due to his persistence, Jane cannot find peace at Moor House as long as St. John disrupts her connection with the natural world (Fuller 161). The storms increase until it finally reaches a climax, the frozen hurricane (Brontë 383), where Jane finds herself trapped in her own real life disaster. While Moor House began as an idyllic paradise (Fuller 161) for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rhetorical Analysis Of Bill Clinton s Speech In order to ensure her speech resonated in the mind of leaders from around the world, Clinton at times uses and authoritative and urgent tone, while also utilizing techniques such as repetition. At one point in her speech, Clinton s tone shifted as she became extremely passionate. She cried, the history of women has been a history of silence. Even today, there are those who are trying to silence our words. But the voices of this conference and of the women at Huairou must be heard loudly and clearly: It is a violation of human rights when babies are denied food, or drowned, or suffocated, or their spines broken, simply because they are born girls. It is a violation of human rights when women and girls are sold into the slavery of prostitution for human greed and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Clinton takes a bold move to demand action from the leaders at the conference and in order to do that she must shift her tone to represent the authority she wants to present. There is another time in her speech where Clinton used an anaphora. Another point Clinton made sure to repeat is that families will flourish (Clinton) when women are healthy and educated , full and equal partners in society , and free from violence (Clinton). A major point in Clinton s speech was that in order to help all people to succeed, women must first be allowed to succeed, and the people that will be directly affected because of this success would be the families. Clinton understood that the well being of families is a point that would connect her audience because it is a topic that concerned most people, so she made sure to repeat that phrase several times. The mention of families is so important because even though there were so many people who opposed her speech, but they were also groups that were concerned for the well being of families, so she was able to use families to unite even the people who are against her. When looking at the diction of Clinton s speech, she uses three different types of word ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
