Before Colonisation In Australia
Before Colonisation
Aboriginal culture is the oldest culture in the world, having made ways of managing their land and
society that was sustainable and ensured good health. They have lived in Australia for nearly 60,000
years. While there was significant contact and trade between the diverse races who lived in this
continent, there was no contact, no exchange of cultures or knowledge between Indigenous
Australians and the rest of the world.
Contact Begins
The outside world started to make contact with some Aboriginal groups.People from what is now
called Indonesia made trade relations with people of the north.Later when European colonists made
contact, some of it was positive for Aboriginal people including sharing technology.Other aspects ...

However, at a state government level Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people still face
discrimination.
Rights for voting
The Commonwealth Electoral Act is amended to give the vote to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander people at federal elections. The Act provides that Indigenous people should have the right to
enrol and vote at federal elections but enrolment was not compulsory. Despite this amendment, it is
illegal under Commonwealth legislation to encourage Indigenous people to enrol to vote. Western
Australia extends the state vote to Aboriginal people. Three years later Queensland became the last
state to give Indigenous people the right to vote in state elections.
After a decade long campaign by Indigenous and non Indigenous people working side by side to move
the nation forward, a referendum held in May 1967.It was the most successful this nation has ever
seen. More than 90 per cent of Australian voters say yes that Indigenous people should be counted in
the national census of the population.

Development Of The Model T And The Assembly Line Transform...
The question that I will answer is, How did Henry Ford and the development of the Model T and the
assembly line transform American culture? Henry Ford was a extraordinary business man. He could
arguably be viewed as one of the most important people of his time. Ford did not always succeed in
business. His failures were his early business and early car models that could not run more than a few
minutes. However, his luck turned around with the start of current day Ford Motor Company and the
eventual Model T. Ford was always thinking and wanting to perfect his cars and business. With his
hard work he started to develop the assembly line so that Ford could reach his goal of 1,000 cars a
day. With all of these changes of developments in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

was turning out cars every hour and a half. With the development of the assembly line Ford was able
to produce cars faster than any other car company. This allowed Ford to maintain more than 50% of
the automobile market share. Henry Ford was a extremely intelligent business man. Throughout his
career he was always thinking of ways to improve his process to make costs cheaper and to produce
the Model T quicker. Without this ideology Ford might not of been successful as he was. This was his
life s work and he wanted to perfect it. The quality of the Model T and assembly line where direct
results of Ford always wanting to improve his work. He also surrounded himself with men who lived
and breathed the same work he did. According to My Forty Years with Ford , With this group, work
was play. If it had not been play, it would have killed them. They were as men possessed. They often
forgot to eat. (Sorensen ,Williams, 54) His accomplishments as a business man was because he loved
his work. Henry Ford could have priced the Model T to attract wealthy buyers. He would of sold less
cars but might have been able to make more money. Ford was not in the car business to make money
but to improve transportation. The quality of roads and reliability of automobiles at that time were
awful. Something needed to be done to fix these issues. Even some of Ford s early

Esperanza s Dream House
The place where a person lives often provides insight into their life. As implied by the title of the
novel The House on Mango Street, the novel placed a strong focus on the places where people lived
and how they related to the people themselves. Two characters houses stand out in this novel in
particular: the houses belonging to Esperanza and Sally. Through the description of the appearance of
the two houses and how each person feels while inside their house, Cisneros created a striking contrast
between the two houses.
One of the most prominent places mentioned in the novel is Esperanza s dream house. Although
appearing like a dilapidated house from the outside, the house on Mango Street was rewarding to
Esperanza and her family because

The Morocco Lower Chamber Introduced A 10 % Quota System
Morocco
The Morocco Lower Chamber introduced a 10% quota system in 2002. This led to the percentage of
the women in the lower house jumping from 1 to 10 percent. They moved from two seats in 1998 to
35 out of 330 parliamentarians in 2002; thirty of these were as a result of the quota, five successfully
competed against male candidates. This result was an exception of Middle Eastern and North African
standards. Sartre describes this as a major change in a formerly authoritarian state. After a critical
analysis of recent legal changes, and after a number of interviews with women parliamentarians, she
concluded that the quota appeared innovative, but relied on formal mechanisms to prevent real
political innovation and contests. What Sater describes as a „superficial democratisation‟resulted from
an effort to guarantee the survival of individual rulers. Morocco is perceived to be an example of
exceptional sources of legitimacy for the ruling family of the Arab world.Sater wrote: Multi group
competition conveys to the ruler the authority of the arbitration. King Mohamed VI has been trying to
be more modern, but the King remains a center of a system of patronage and monopolizes all political
decisions. Internally the reform of the quota is portrayed as a significant step in the State‟s efforts at
democratization. Regime interference in political parties, either through banning or co opting
individual leaders, ensuring loyal support of the regime, has been a constant feature, so

candidates were Democratic Republicans, but personal and sectional interests outweighed political
orthodoxy. The candidates included:
John Quincy Adams, son of a Federalist president, represented the interests of the Northeast (high
protective tariff) and was the leading contender
Henry Clay of Kentucky shared political views with Adams, but they held one another in contempt the

Persuasive Essay Technology
Google Technology Essay Technology has become inescapable. Whether you re in a store, at school,
or even at church, there s technology all around you being used in many different ways. It s changed
the way we live our everyday lives, whether we notice it or not. Technology is used to check you out
at the grocery store, it allows you to pass in your assignment at eleven fifty nine the night before it s
due, it even has given our soldiers the ability to walk again, but do these good impacts overshadow
our ability to see its negative impacts? And if the good truly does overshadow the bad, is that okay?
On a personal level, technology has affected my own life by helping me maintain relationships,
possibly hindering my reading ability, and by becoming a necessity for everyday life. It s become
infectious, not only for me, but for the majority of its users. The question is though, is this constant
use really hurting us, and if so, are we ready to stop it? Technology, specifically the internet and social
media networks, has allowed us to connect with people from anywhere, whenever we want. This
ability to connect has allowed me to maintain relationships that I might not have been able to maintain
otherwise. As I have moved around the state several times during the entirety of my childhood, I don t
see the people I want to as much as I wish. The clashing of schedules makes it hard to keep in touch,
let alone having a family and adding their schedules on top of it all. I, like

One O Clock Jump Poem Essay
While One O Clock Jump has more similarities to swing it is still an example of modernism. In
Coleman Hawkins One O Clock Jump one can notice the more similarities with swing, compared to
Body and Soul, however, one can still hear a more detailed portrayal. The song has more flow and
more beats than swing usually has. Thus, use of more beats is part of the new technique that Coleman
Hawkins used. The use of the new techniques shows how one can see modernism in One O Clock
Jump. However, due to the similarities to swing one would not necessary have to see this song of
Hawkins as part of bebop or modernism.
Another song of Hawkins that not necessary has to be seen as modernism is Every Man For Himself.
In Every Man For Himself there is again a faster pace. While one could still call it swing one could
say how the faster pacing made it part of modernism. Yet one can again argue how the similarities to
swing, still made it swing and a new term as bebop would not have been necessary. Would Body and
Soul not have been as different from swing as it was both One O Clock Jump and Every Man For
Himself would not necessary be part of bebop. So, both these songs are part of modernism ... Show

the new techniques that he used in the United States. Thus, while he did not experience the changes in
the thirties he did keep up to date to these changes, and was part of the changes that were made in the
late thirties and early forties. That he was part of the changes shows how he is still an example of

Zen Buddhism
Zen Buddhism emphasizes much like the Shinto tradition the act of cleansing, accept that it focuses on
meditation as a way to purify the mind. This interpretation of purification as seen within the Buddhist
teachings, is the attempt to clear the mind of contaminated beliefs, concepts, and materials, which can
be harmful to someone seeking enlightenment. This can be understood by Dogen who wrote within
the Bendowa that the, The person seated in zazen without fail casts off body and mind, severs all the
heretofore disordered and defiled thoughts and views emanating from his discriminating
consciousness, conforms totally with the genuine Buddha Dharma, (Dogen 2002, p. 12). Within this
section of the text, Dogen uses a metaphysical approach to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The negativity of being attached to materialistic objects and desires are the two most prominent
possessions that Dogen explains must be destroyed in order to achieve absolute awareness. This belief
is evident when Dogen states that, Leaving no perceptions in any sphere or directions; all living beings
use it unceasingly, with no sphere or direction appearing in their perceptions, (Dogen 2002, p. 8). This
describes Dogen s thought that by being restricted or limited to think in a certain way can be a leading
influence where pollutants of the mind can grow and fester. The historical context of the following
passage was that Dogen gave the distinction that zazen was the more superior technique. This was
asserted in order to gain a better understanding of the prominent technique that was utilized by the
Buddha during his pilgrimage to Japan and China. It remains evident that much like Shinto tradition,
Zen Buddhism attempts to clarify within its own interpretation the causes of these types of mental
toxins, and ways in which they can be cured. Although Shinto focuses primarily on physical
impurities, Zen Buddhism describes them on a spiritual level and so it is through this where we can
see the clear relations that the two respective religions have with each

A Defining Moment Research Paper
Everyone has their own fears in life. Some people fear a certain type of animal, while others might
fear losing a loved one. About three years ago, I had many fears that I still have today. Such as a
deathly fear of heights, the thought of not being good enough, and lastly the fear of failure.
My brother Kevin offered to take me skiing at Ski Brule in Iron River. I had never gone skiing before
and I was filled with anticipation, excitement, and nervousness. I felt as if someone had turned my
stomach into a washing machine and thrown some rocks inside. I grabbed all of my things and packed
them into Kevin s Volkswagen Jetta and we hit the road. Upon arrival at Ski Brule, a few things

Manifest Destiny Research Paper
Because of Manifest Destiny the United States faced potential wars and a great deal of inequality.
Although it did have a few positive impacts, it mostly effected the country negatively. While Manifest
Destiny brought the U.S. expansion along with immigration, it created inequity and promoted war
which were not reasonable consequences for the countries progression.
Those who heavily influenced the idea of Manifest Destiny like John O Sullivan, who also created it,
said that it was what God wanted and therefore it was acceptable to do whatever was needed for the
U.S. to obtain more land. O Sullivan opted for a war of conquest against Mexico. Although the U.S.
was able to acquire California and New Mexico through this act, it was not a valid reason to invade
Mexican territory and purloin land that did not belong to the United States. Along with O Sullivan,
presidents John Tyler and James K. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the article Manifest Destiny: An Introduction the author says It excluded those people who were
percieved as being incapable of self government, such as Native American people and those of non
European origin. This is an example of inequality because people who were not European were
practically ignored and viewed as unimportant which gave them less rights than everyone else. The
article by Thomas Hietala states that leaders and private groups continued to seek more land from
Native Americans, Central American countries and European governments. This is another example of
inequality because Americans tried to take land from those who were seen as lesser than them so they
could have more for themselves and leave Natives, Central Americans and Europeans with nothing.
Manifest Destiny was not an acceptable excuse to take land and rights from people because they
weren t considered fully American and therefore just gave the government an excuse to control those
people so they could take what they wanted from

Iron Jawed Angels is a film that portrays the cruelty and brutality woman faced throughout the
Suffrage movement in the 1900s and the Women faced many issues, but some accepted inequality
while others waited patiently as asked to for years. Alice Paul and Lucy burns took a stand and stroke
up determination within women. Women who were a part of the movement were referred to as
suffragists who stood up to the law and asked for the right to vote. They faced many obstacles such as
verbal and physical attacks throughout the parade and peaceful protest. For instance, throughout the
parade men shouted to the women to get off the streets and called them names. Glass bottles were

advance due to the fact that had families to support. The division between NAWSA and NWP was
portrayed in the film and it has relevance to the course because it ties into what the article breaking
down barriers for women revolved around. The older women were not on board with the strategies
and because of that asked Paul to raise the funds for the parade she wanted to conduct. The split was
based on tactics. The NAWSA led by Carrie Chapman Catt wanted a state by state approach while
Alice Paul, who led NWP had more aggressive techniques. Picketing the white house was considered
an aggressive approach to NAWSA. Although they were aggressive, they were not violent. There was
more determination coming from the NWP. NAWSA waited patiently as asked by President Wilson.
The President ignored the issue and said it was because he had no knowledge nor was he familiar with
the issue. This movement is important because although it took years the goal was achieved. It was a
long battle and women were brave enough to put their lives on the line. Alice Paul was a determined

A Research Study On Pet Scans
Neuroscience has evolved in the last 20 years due to the development of new machines and techniques
which can measure the structure and the activity of the brain itself. This has allowed cognitive
neuroscientists to conduct more in depth research of the function of the brain. One method used by
neuroscientist s is Position Emission Tomography (PET). A PET scan measures the blood flow, brain
metabolism and glucose intake. During the procedure, the patient is given a harmless dose of a
radioactive substance, which is most likely 2 deoxyglucose (2 DG) which is taken up by cells and
accumulates in active neurons (Pinel, 2011). The radioactive element releases positrons which are
detected by the scan showing which parts of the brain are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This limits cognitive neuroscientists in PET research as due to its invasive nature, they won t be able
to investigate the early development of brain function using this technique (Martin, 2013).
Another technique adopted by neuroscientists is the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). MRI unlike
PET measures the brain structure rather than the activity. It is measured by the waves emitted from
hydrogen atoms which are activated by the radio waves from the magnetic field that is passed over the
head during the procedure (Pinel, 2011). This is detected by the scanner and is then altered into a
structural image. MRI is a much more detailed scan compared to for example, CT scans, as they
provide clearer images of the brain which makes it easier for neuroscientists to identify any
abnormalities in brain structure. Furthermore, the technique has relatively high spatial resolution and it
can produce images in three dimensions which can give a more advanced view into the brain (Martin,
2005). Moreover, MRI has led to the discovery of a number of brain abnormalities in schizophrenia.
For example, an MRI study found that compared to healthy subjects, schizophrenic patients showed
smaller volumes of grey matter in the temporal lobe and smaller volumes of white matter in the frontal
lobe. Schizophrenic patients also had a higher volume of

Critique Of The Help By Kathryn Stockett
Critique of Fiction Novel
The Help was published in 2005 by Kathryn Stockett. It was her first novel and it takes place around
1962 in Jackson, Mississippi where Stockett grew up. Stockett takes inspiration from the segregation
she witnessed in her hometown and the African American maid Demetrie, with whom she grew up
with, to write a passionate yet controversial novel in which she depicts the struggle between whites
and blacks along with the emotional struggle that the main characters endure throughout the novel.
The Help has been widely renowned yet disputable as Stockett uses the different aspects of life in the
south that she grew up with to write a fictional yet realistic account of the segregation during the
period of the Civil Rights Movement.
The Help is told from the point of view of three characters: two African American women, Minny who
is a cook, and Aibleen who is a maid and a white woman named Eugenia Skeeter Phelan. Stockett
uses the three characters in first person narrative to depict not only the differences in the lives between
whites and black, but also how their lives were intertwined in the sense that they end up helping one
another even though the time period was one of separation and segregation. As the novel progresses,
Skeeter, an aspiring writer, wants to write an exposition about the lives of Aibleen and Minny and
other African American maids living in the south and the porous conditions that they endure in their
daily lives. This is the main

Welfare Of The United States
Welfare is a subject of debate in the United States because everyone has a different point of view
when it comes to the Social Security Act. On one side the rich may feel that the government takes
from the rich, and gives to the poor. The poor on the other hand may believe that they are being
forgotten and not helped enough by the government. Are the government financial assistance
programs really working and helping people climb out of poverty or are they creating lazy people who
depend on government assistance too much? Poverty has been an issue of great debate in America for
centuries. Before the Social Security Act was passed, the United States government did not have a
stable plan to help/aid the poor. It was the local governments responsibility to care for their
disadvantaged. Many Americans believe only the poor receive welfare aid or benefits from the
government, they are misguided, because even though welfare is a program who aids the poor it also
helps most Americas in one way or another. Also, welfare helps big name corporations by giving them
government funding for research he also gives them loans, grants, and tax breaks. In 2015 it was the
eightieth year anniversary since President Theodore Roosevelt passed The Social Security Act law,
and the problem has gotten worse not better. The purpose for this act was to help the unemployed or
underemployed during the great depression. However, it extended to the poor through a variety of
programs. In Addition, the

had shown that some specific EEG patterns seen in anoxic brain injury following cardiac arrest
suggests a poor outcome and these patterns do not react to external stimuli such as in alpha coma
(Misra and Kalita 2005; Kaplan and Sutter 2012), generalised burst suppression (Blum and Rutkove
2007; Sandroni, C et al 2014) and status epilepticus (Sandroni, C et al., 2014). However, the
specificity of these EEG patterns in the determination of prognosis is low (63%) according to
Thenayan et al (2010). They found four patients with malignant EEG pattern recovered awareness.
However, evaluation of EEG reactivity has significantly improved prognostification ... Show more

A correct interpretation of both the background pattern and the transients is of high importance for
correct diagnosis. However, it is known that this approach can be subjective and it is time consuming
with low sensitivity and low inter rater reliability in particular, the non epilepsy cases (Malone et al.,
2009; Piccinelli et al., 2005; Cooper et al., 1974; Seshia et al., 2008; Benbadis et al., 2009). In recent
studies, the inter rater agreement (Kappa coefficients) range from low (0.09) to significant (0.94)
(Gerber et al., 2008; Haut et al., 2002; Azuma et al., 2003; Benbadis et al., 2009). This is mostly due
to the lack of consistency in describing the properties accurately (Lodder, S and Van Putten, M 2013).
A study by Azuma et al (2003) showed how inter rater reliability was improved by having three
reviewers agree to use the same guidelines, hence enhancing clarity between clinicians. As of present,
no previous studies have evaluated the inter rater variabilities on the prognostic value of post cardiac
arrest

Civil Liberties. Singapore Suffers From Several Constraints
Civil Liberties Singapore suffers from several constraints regarding freedom of speech, which directly
impacts the atmosphere of the country s political and civil systems. Freedom House scores their civil
liberties at a 32 out of 60. Domestic newspapers, radio stations and television channels are owner by
companies linked to the government and it is rare that a newspaper publish critical content involving
the government due to general support of state policies (FreedomHouse, 2015). Although the internet
is widely accessible in Singapore, authorities monitor online material and block content through
licensed service providers. The Sedition Act of the Statutes of Singapore aims to retain political

The Prime Minister is the head of the government; and its parliament holds the executive power
(PoliticalLandscape, 2015). The Parliament tasks include governing state s finances, making laws and
observing the actions of the governing party (PoliticalLandscape, 2015). Singapore s parliament
members (MPs) are comprised of mix of elected, nominated and non constituency members
(Parliament, 2017). General elections dictate the majority of MPs in Parliament and represent either
Single Member Constituencies (SMCs) or Group Representation Constituencies (GRCs). In 2015,
there were 87 members of parliament, including nine nominated members (NMP) and nine non
constituency members (NCMP) elected, (PoliticalLandscape, 2015). Communication by MPs on
behalf of their communities to the Government is vital in order to ensure that their constituents hear
their concerns. Voices of the opposing members questioned if parliament seats were being held by
enough minority races. To ensure that ethnic minorities have a voice in parliament, Prime Minister
Loong announced that a minimum of twelve opposition MPs, including NCMPs will be increased for
the next election. In addition, to make way for the additional single seats in parliament, GRCs seats
will continue to be reduced. These changes are amongst the most

Female Circumcision In Africa
Normally, female circumcision (also known as female genital mutilation) is not the topic of discussion
most people would talk about, but for once it should be. Female circumcision is the cutting or removal
of parts or maybe even all of the female genital region. This can take place during a wide range
starting from when a baby girl is first brought into this world all the way until puberty. The genital
mutilation can be performed by an elderly woman in the village or if the family is wealthy, the surgery
can be done by a professional doctor. After the painful surgery, a ritual is held to honor the young girl
for her rite of passage . According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there are four main
types: clitoridectomy, excision, infibulation, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, in order for a young woman to inherit land and get married, she had to be circumcised
(Female Genital Mutilation 17). It is believed that being circumcised is a way to ensure that the girl is
pure and stays pure until she is wed off. Africa is mostly male dominant so it is often times, the man s
right to go have his daughter circumcised so when she does become a wife, she can satisfy the man.
This is usually resulted due to the mother s social status as where she cannot speak out against it. It is
very seldom, as well, that a girl will volunteer to have this done to her due to peer pressure. If one was
not circumcised, then she could not be wed and would be looked down upon by the people in her
village. Furthermore, the surgery may be forced upon because a family member who is concern about
the disgrace that could be brought upon the family s reputation, may secretly have the girl circumcised
without the mother even knowing. Possibly originating in Africa, which there is no known evidence, a
female undergoes circumcision. Female circumcision is a process of which various alterations to her
genital area. is occurred during anytime in a girl s life once she is born until she reaches puberty. She
may just have part of her clitoris removed or she may have her clitoris, labia minora, and labia majora
removed. All of this is done so she can

Ulysses As A Hero In The Adventures Of Ulysses
A hero is always described as one who stands for the common good of people, whether it be an
archetype of a typical hero from fabled descend or those who are unexpectedly deemed a hero in
everyday lives. Bernard Evslin s adventure fiction, The Adventures of Ulysses, illustrates the life of
Ulysses ten years after fighting alongside the Greeks in the Trojan War. He encounters trials and
tribulations such as, unknown seas and numerous inconceivable monsters to hopefully return to his
rightful place as king of Ithaca. Some of his trials take place on the islands of Lotusland, Aeaea, and a
narrow strait to Thrinacia. On Lotusland, Ulysses is met with an inescapable urge to sleep because
Morpheus, the son of Hypnos and nephew of Hades, orders the natives to feed Ulysses and his crew
intoxicating flowers to make them fall into a deep slumber. Ulysses also finds himself with a challenge
on the island of Aeaea because of Circe, an enticing goddess sorceress who turns any man into an
animal. He also comes across the Sirens, bird like women who lure sailors to shipwreck with their
enchanting sounds of happiness, sadness, autumn, and silence, on his way to Thrinacia. Ulysses is a
hero because he possesses the essential characteristics of a typical hero. He proves and displays his
heroic traits of strength, intelligence, and selflessness. Obviously, Ulysses vanquishes an ordeal that
no ordinary man can triumph. When battling forces beyond his control, Ulysses displays heroic

If You re A Vampire, It s All About You
If you re a vampire, it s all about you. Why is Edward Cullen obsessed to the point of erotomania by
Bella Swan? Because she smells so yummy, but he doesn t want to kill her. Here s what he tells her:
He must not be around her. He might sink his fangs in just a little, and not be able to stop. She finds
this overwhelmingly attractive. She tells him he is the most beautiful thing she has ever seen. I don t
remember Edward ever saying that to her. Maybe once. He keeps on saying they should stay far, far
apart, because he craves her so much.
Should a woman fall in love with a man because he desires her so much? Men seem to think so. It s
not about the woman, it s about the man s desire. We all know there is no such thing as a vampire.
Come on now, what is Twilight really about? It s about a teenage boy trying to practice abstinence,
and how, in the heat of the moment, it s really, really hard. And about a girl who wants to go all the
way with him, and doesn t care what might happen. He s so beautiful she would do anything for him.
She is the embodiment of the sentiment, I d die for you. She is, like many adolescents, a thanatophile.
If there were no vampires in Twilight, it would be a thin blooded teenage romance, about two good
looking kids who want each other so much because they want each other so much. Sometimes that s
all it s about, isn t it? They re in love with being in love. In Twilight, however, they have a seductive
disagreement about whether

San Diego City Analysis
As a person who has now lived in San Diego for over 22 years and a Latino, it is impossible not to see
the medley of direct influences of Hispanic culture in this border town. Because Hispanic people
heavily populate the city and it s proximity to Mexico, representations of this thriving culture can be
found in the city s art, food, religion, architecture, economy, and politics. To get a better understanding
of this, we must start at the beginning.

Richard Harding Davis presents many short stories based on romance and war. His biographical
information will share that he experiences time in the war and when he writes he gives vivid

loved this man so deeply that when he was called to go to war she did not want him to go. Of course,
he went to serve his country after she mentioned that he is charmed. With being charmed he would
never die because how much she loved him. The reader s analysis of Davis s use of literary elements,

Miss Armitage did not want him to go as she proclaimed, I merely tell you, YOU CAN T GO! My
gracious (The Literature Network). The action builds as the fighting continues but switches to
Chesterton calming Miss Armitage down by telling her that the love she has for him is like a charm.
Meaning that the charm will protect him while he is gone, like it has multiple times. Shortly after the
discussion he went off to the war. The war begins and then ended, once it ended the climax happened.
Chesterton told the general that he was leaving, the general declined him doing so at first because he
would be taking a dangerous path home. After Chesterton fought and told he was going anyways, he
began his journey (The Literature Network). The journey was delightful at first, while the moon
gleamed perfectly on the path and it was claiming outside, he was so excited to go home to his wife.
Once he got to a certain point he ran into some problems, but as it was said in the beginning of the
story he had a charmed to protect him. Davis uses multiple themes in A Charmed Life, one theme
being love and sacrifice. The reader knows that Miss Armitage and Chesterton are in love, and the
sacrifice was having to say goodbye to Chesterton while he went off to War. Davis also uses a survival
theme. As Chesterton and his horse was traveling by themselves through the night (The Literature
Network), Chesterton had to be aware of

Difference Between Inuit And Aleut
The Inuit and Aleut had an extraordinary arrangement in like manner. Numerous people lived in vault
molded houses made of grass or timber (or, in the North, ice squares). They utilized seal and otter
skins to make warm, weatherproof apparel, streamlined dogsleds and long, open fishing vessels
(kayaks in Inuit; baidarkas in Aleut). When the U.S. bought The Frozen North in 1867, many years of
abuse and presentation to European infections had incurred significant damage. The local population
had dropped to only 2,500. The relatives of these survivors still make their home in the region today.

waterlogged tundra, extended crosswise over a lot of inland The

Examples Of Discourse Communities
REDO DISCOURSE COMMUNITY
Everyone has the same goal in a discourse community, achieving a set goal. Whether it be getting
work done or doing something for fun everyone has a goal in a group. The reason why people come
together to form a group is usually one they cannot achieve alone. Playing a game alone makes it
reasonably boring but with other people involved makes the game more fun. Unlike most discourse
communities the players in the game Dota 2 do not do a physical activity. While ninety percent of
discourse communities come together to finish manual labor, the community of Dota 2 comes together
to have fun. This proves that not all discourse communities form to do work.
First, all discourse communities have a set goal. People come ... Show more content on

A way to pick teammates is to usually make friends and have fun with them. Older Timers within the
group you can usually pick out because they have a more negative view on the game and are harsh to
get onto people for doing something that was out of sorts. A new player usually is very positive
starting out and is very open minded about what they can do. This usually fades after a month of
playing the game. You also can tell who s a new player based on what they buy and how they play. I ve
had the luxury of interviewing a young teen that is on a small, competitive team. When the teen was
asked why does he play Dota 2 he responded, at first I played it because it looked interesting, but
nearly 1000 hours later, I play because I know so much about the game it makes it more fun to make
decisions; plus I like playing with friends. This concludes that not all players play necessarily for the
bragging rights of just being good , players play to be able to have a fun activity with their friends or
just simply make friends. It s ridiculously easy to make friends in game considering if you do, these
people see you from when you started to where you currently are now. This gives them a sense of
being with you from when you just began playing the game. Understanding team roles also helps
anyone become a better player within the game. To understand team roles a person must be playing for

special courts that transact with juveniles, individuals between the ages of 10 and 18 in most states,
who have been suspected of violating an unlawful act. Adults are accused of crimes and juveniles are
commonly accused of delinquent acts. Subsequently, children have a lesser understanding of the

rights that adults have because they are minors. A minor could be tried as an adult and will not receive

Personal Note On Sexual Violence

Assignment Turnitin Week 3
Identify and briefly describe the two specific types of individual, couple, and/or family crisis
situations you have selected.
In the assignment application, I have identified partner violence and lethality as the two types of crisis
situations to discuss about. Partner violence may occur in three different forms. First, Physical
violence which involves intentional use of physical force with the aim of causing harm, injury,
disability or death. Physical violence may also involve activities such as biting, slapping, choking,
punching, burning, using a weapon to inflict pain, shoving, throwing as well as using restrains on one
body. Secondly, Sexual violence which generally refers to involuntary sexual act in which a person is
physically compelled or coerced to engage against their will. This violence does no necessary require
sexual intimacy and can occur between same sex couples and heterosexual couples (Baldry Winkel,
2008). This may occur in three main ways: By use of excessive physical force to compel an individual
to engage into a sexual act which is contrary to his or her will, forcible sexual act to a victim who is
unable to resist or understand the nature of the situation in order communicate his /her unwillingness
to engage in the sexual act and finally the abusive sexual contact (Garcia McManimon, 2010). Thirdly,

Introduction
What is Personality?
Personality is a series of characteristic thoughts, feelings and behaviour that differentiates one human
being to another and that continues over time and situation (Phares, 1991). According to Ryckman,
Personality is the sum of biologically based and learnt behaviour which comprises and forms the
person s particular responses to environmental stimuli (Ryckman, 1982).

A personality trait may vary, as in be more or less visible base on the situation, this can also differ on
the basis of time (Phares, 1991). The changes that reflect particular event and feelings during the
lifespan of an individual only affect the surface and not the core character of the individual.
Intellectual changes in a personality are usually consequences of major life altering changes (Costa
McCrae, 1992).
It is necessary that individuals accept and adapt to the certain circumstances that they face in lift and
at the same time they need to retain the inner core trait of personality that defines them. Certain traits
or adaptation are general and easily accepted. Also they follow a certain pattern, for example,
Sensation seeking this is a characteristic that diminishes over time from teens to middle agers in
mostly all cultures (Costa McCrae, 1980). Neuroticism and frankness to experience diminishes over a
certain peiod of time and on the other hand self esteem, conscientiousness and agreeableness increase
in an individual (Neyer, 2000). The expressions of any personality of an individual largely depends on
age and maturity. These activity levels in individuals may thus enhance the likeliness for a sport at a
young age and gardening at an older age (Costa McCrae, 1980).

Pulp Fiction Film Review
When giving a film and evaluation it is obvious that acting, setting and plot would fit in every gender,
however to evaluate a crime movie the expectations and feedback changes. Crime movies are known
for having a flexible plot that allows mystery and tension build up, characters and acting that will
maintain their role alive and transfer emotions and dialog that stays clear and understandable. Writing
that is able to keep the audience concentrated through long dialogs and it also has its unexpected

Writing that is able to keep the audience concentrated through long dialogs and it also has its
unexpected twists it s a key part. Crime movies often move slowly, they build up suspense and
situations and they give you a bone here and there so you don t get bored and stay until the climax of
the story. Pulp Fiction is unique, it s wonderfully written so each line fits on the designated actor. The
story continues on and on with always interesting dialogs. The story takes its wild turns, one more
unexpected than the last one. Moments that will take you by surprise are bound to happen. The writing
is really fluent in the sense that in each individual scene there s so much to like, and the best part of it,
is the fact that none of the direction or the writing ever seems forced, but quite natural. The movie
won t feel rushed out, it takes times for discussions to go through, the dialog aren t always attached to
what the whole idea of the movie. For example; Vincent and Jules having a discussion about what a
TV pilot just seems like a regular conversation between two guys but it doesn t lose interest as it

the writing, he gives everything its time. The way the movie is shot is quite interesting. In most

Before Colonisation In Australia Before Colonisation Aboriginal culture is the oldest culture in the world, having made ways of managing their land and society that was sustainable and ensured good health. They have lived in Australia for nearly 60,000 years. While there was significant contact and trade between the diverse races who lived in this continent, there was no contact, no exchange of cultures or knowledge between Indigenous Australians and the rest of the world. Despite this amendment, it is illegal under Commonwealth legislation to encourage Indigenous people to enrol to vote. Western Australia extends the state vote to Aboriginal people. Three years later Queensland became the last state to give Indigenous people the right to vote in state elections. • 3. Development Of The Model T And The Assembly Line Transform... The question that I will answer is, How did Henry Ford and the development of the Model T and the assembly line transform American culture? Henry Ford was a extraordinary business man. He could arguably be viewed as one of the most important people of his time. Ford did not always succeed in business. His failures were his early business and early car models that could not run more than a few minutes. However, his luck turned around with the start of current day Ford Motor Company and the eventual Model T. Ford was always thinking and wanting to perfect his cars and business. With his hard work he started to develop the assembly line so that Ford could reach his goal of 1,000 cars a day. With all of these changes of developments in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before than assembly line cars were being produced every 12 hours, with the new assembly line Ford was turning out cars every hour and a half. With the development of the assembly line Ford was able to produce cars faster than any other car company. This allowed Ford to maintain more than 50% of the automobile market share. Henry Ford was a extremely intelligent business man. Throughout his career he was always thinking of ways to improve his process to make costs cheaper and to produce the Model T quicker. Without this ideology Ford might not of been successful as he was. This was his life s work and he wanted to perfect it. The quality of the Model T and assembly line where direct results of Ford always wanting to improve his work. He also surrounded himself with men who lived and breathed the same work he did. According to My Forty Years with Ford , With this group, work was play. If it had not been play, it would have killed them. They were as men possessed. They often forgot to eat. (Sorensen ,Williams, 54) His accomplishments as a business man was because he loved his work. Henry Ford could have priced the Model T to attract wealthy buyers. He would of sold less cars but might have been able to make more money. Ford was not in the car business to make money but to improve transportation. The quality of roads and reliability of automobiles at that time were awful. Something needed to be done to fix these issues. Even some of Ford s early ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Esperanza s Dream House The place where a person lives often provides insight into their life. As implied by the title of the novel The House on Mango Street, the novel placed a strong focus on the places where people lived and how they related to the people themselves. Two characters houses stand out in this novel in particular: the houses belonging to Esperanza and Sally. Through the description of the appearance of the two houses and how each person feels while inside their house, Cisneros created a striking contrast between the two houses. One of the most prominent places mentioned in the novel is Esperanza s dream house. • 6. The Morocco Lower Chamber Introduced A 10 % Quota System Morocco The Morocco Lower Chamber introduced a 10% quota system in 2002. This led to the percentage of the women in the lower house jumping from 1 to 10 percent. They moved from two seats in 1998 to 35 out of 330 parliamentarians in 2002; thirty of these were as a result of the quota, five successfully competed against male candidates. This result was an exception of Middle Eastern and North African standards. Sartre describes this as a major change in a formerly authoritarian state. After a critical analysis of recent legal changes, and after a number of interviews with women parliamentarians, she concluded that the quota appeared innovative, but relied on formal mechanisms to prevent real political innovation and contests. What Sater describes as a „superficial democratisation‟resulted from an effort to guarantee the survival of individual rulers. Morocco is perceived to be an example of exceptional sources of legitimacy for the ruling family of the Arab world.Sater wrote: Multi group competition conveys to the ruler the authority of the arbitration. King Mohamed VI has been trying to be more modern, but the King remains a center of a system of patronage and monopolizes all political decisions. Internally the reform of the quota is portrayed as a significant step in the State‟s efforts at democratization. Regime interference in political parties, either through banning or co opting individual leaders, ensuring loyal support of the regime, has been a constant feature, so ... • 8. Persuasive Essay Technology Google Technology Essay Technology has become inescapable. Whether you re in a store, at school, or even at church, there s technology all around you being used in many different ways. It s changed the way we live our everyday lives, whether we notice it or not. Technology is used to check you out at the grocery store, it allows you to pass in your assignment at eleven fifty nine the night before it s due, it even has given our soldiers the ability to walk again, but do these good impacts overshadow our ability to see its negative impacts? And if the good truly does overshadow the bad, is that okay? On a personal level, technology has affected my own life by helping me maintain relationships, possibly hindering my reading ability, and by becoming a necessity for everyday life. It s become infectious, not only for me, but for the majority of its users. The question is though, is this constant use really hurting us, and if so, are we ready to stop it? Technology, specifically the internet and social media networks, has allowed us to connect with people from anywhere, whenever we want. This ability to connect has allowed me to maintain relationships that I might not have been able to maintain otherwise. As I have moved around the state several times during the entirety of my childhood, I don t see the people I want to as much as I wish. The clashing of schedules makes it hard to keep in touch, let alone having a family and adding their schedules on top of it all. I, like ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. One O Clock Jump Poem Essay While One O Clock Jump has more similarities to swing it is still an example of modernism. In Coleman Hawkins One O Clock Jump one can notice the more similarities with swing, compared to Body and Soul, however, one can still hear a more detailed portrayal. The song has more flow and more beats than swing usually has. Thus, use of more beats is part of the new technique that Coleman Hawkins used. The use of the new techniques shows how one can see modernism in One O Clock Jump. However, due to the similarities to swing one would not necessary have to see this song of Hawkins as part of bebop or modernism. Another song of Hawkins that not necessary has to be seen as modernism is Every Man For Himself. In Every Man For Himself there is again a faster pace. While one could still call it swing one could say how the faster pacing made it part of modernism. Yet one can again argue how the similarities to swing, still made it swing and a new term as bebop would not have been necessary. Would Body and Soul not have been as different from swing as it was both One O Clock Jump and Every Man For Himself would not necessary be part of bebop. So, both these songs are part of modernism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As Hawkins went to Europe he did not experience the rapid urbanization that was happening in the United States. Although, he did keep several records of American artists, so he could still listen to the changes that were happening. Thus, while he did not experience the changes in the thirties he did keep up to date to these changes, and was part of the changes that were made in the late thirties and early forties. That he was part of the changes shows how he is still an example of modernism. Even though he did not experience the rapid urbanization, he was the one who made the ... • 10. Zen Buddhism Zen Buddhism emphasizes much like the Shinto tradition the act of cleansing, accept that it focuses on meditation as a way to purify the mind. This interpretation of purification as seen within the Buddhist teachings, is the attempt to clear the mind of contaminated beliefs, concepts, and materials, which can be harmful to someone seeking enlightenment. This can be understood by Dogen who wrote within the Bendowa that the, The person seated in zazen without fail casts off body and mind, severs all the heretofore disordered and defiled thoughts and views emanating from his discriminating consciousness, conforms totally with the genuine Buddha Dharma, (Dogen 2002, p. 12). The negativity of being attached to materialistic objects and desires are the two most prominent possessions that Dogen explains must be destroyed in order to achieve absolute awareness. This belief is evident when Dogen states that, Leaving no perceptions in any sphere or directions; all living beings use it unceasingly, with no sphere or direction appearing in their perceptions, (Dogen 2002, p. 8). This describes Dogen s thought that by being restricted or limited to think in a certain way can be a leading influence where pollutants of the mind can grow and fester. The historical context of the following passage was that Dogen gave the distinction that zazen was the more superior technique. This was asserted in order to gain a better understanding of the prominent technique that was utilized by the Buddha during his pilgrimage to Japan and China. It remains evident that much like Shinto tradition, Zen Buddhism attempts to clarify within its own interpretation the causes of these types of mental toxins, and ways in which they can be cured. Although Shinto focuses primarily on physical impurities, Zen Buddhism describes them on a spiritual level and so it is through this where we can see the clear relations that the two respective religions have with each ... About three years ago, I had many fears that I still have today. Such as a deathly fear of heights, the thought of not being good enough, and lastly the fear of failure. My brother Kevin offered to take me skiing at Ski Brule in Iron River. I had never gone skiing before and I was filled with anticipation, excitement, and nervousness. I felt as if someone had turned my stomach into a washing machine and thrown some rocks inside. I grabbed all of my things and packed them into Kevin s Volkswagen Jetta and we hit the road. While Manifest Destiny brought the U.S. expansion along with immigration, it created inequity and promoted war which were not reasonable consequences for the countries progression. Those who heavily influenced the idea of Manifest Destiny like John O Sullivan, who also created it, said that it was what God wanted and therefore it was acceptable to do whatever was needed for the U.S. to obtain more land. O Sullivan opted for a war of conquest against Mexico. Although the U.S. was able to acquire California and New Mexico through this act, it was not a valid reason to invade Mexican territory and purloin land that did not belong to the United States. The article by Thomas Hietala states that leaders and private groups continued to seek more land from Native Americans, Central American countries and European governments. This is another example of inequality because Americans tried to take land from those who were seen as lesser than them so they could have more for themselves and leave Natives, Central Americans and Europeans with nothing. Society had the mentality that men needed the opportunities to advance due to the fact that had families to support. The older women were not on board with the strategies and because of that asked Paul to raise the funds for the parade she wanted to conduct. The split was based on tactics. The NAWSA led by Carrie Chapman Catt wanted a state by state approach while Alice Paul, who led NWP had more aggressive techniques. Picketing the white house was considered an aggressive approach to NAWSA. Although they were aggressive, they were not violent. There was more determination coming from the NWP. NAWSA waited patiently as asked by President Wilson. The President ignored the issue and said it was because he had no knowledge nor was he familiar with the issue. • 14. A Research Study On Pet Scans Neuroscience has evolved in the last 20 years due to the development of new machines and techniques which can measure the structure and the activity of the brain itself. This has allowed cognitive neuroscientists to conduct more in depth research of the function of the brain. One method used by neuroscientist s is Position Emission Tomography (PET). A PET scan measures the blood flow, brain metabolism and glucose intake. During the procedure, the patient is given a harmless dose of a radioactive substance, which is most likely 2 deoxyglucose (2 DG) which is taken up by cells and accumulates in active neurons (Pinel, 2011). This limits cognitive neuroscientists in PET research as due to its invasive nature, they won t be able to investigate the early development of brain function using this technique (Martin, 2013). Another technique adopted by neuroscientists is the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). MRI unlike PET measures the brain structure rather than the activity. It is measured by the waves emitted from hydrogen atoms which are activated by the radio waves from the magnetic field that is passed over the head during the procedure (Pinel, 2011). This is detected by the scanner and is then altered into a structural image. MRI is a much more detailed scan compared to for example, CT scans, as they provide clearer images of the brain which makes it easier for neuroscientists to identify any abnormalities in brain structure. Furthermore, the technique has relatively high spatial resolution and it can produce images in three dimensions which can give a more advanced view into the brain (Martin, 2005). Moreover, MRI has led to the discovery of a number of brain abnormalities in schizophrenia. For example, an MRI study found that compared to healthy subjects, schizophrenic patients showed smaller volumes of grey matter in the temporal lobe and smaller volumes of white matter in the frontal lobe. • 16. Critique Of The Help By Kathryn Stockett Critique of Fiction Novel The Help was published in 2005 by Kathryn Stockett. It was her first novel and it takes place around 1962 in Jackson, Mississippi where Stockett grew up. Stockett takes inspiration from the segregation she witnessed in her hometown and the African American maid Demetrie, with whom she grew up with, to write a passionate yet controversial novel in which she depicts the struggle between whites and blacks along with the emotional struggle that the main characters endure throughout the novel. The Help has been widely renowned yet disputable as Stockett uses the different aspects of life in the south that she grew up with to write a fictional yet realistic account of the segregation during the period of the Civil Rights Movement. The Help is told from the point of view of three characters: two African American women, Minny who is a cook, and Aibleen who is a maid and a white woman named Eugenia Skeeter Phelan. Stockett uses the three characters in first person narrative to depict not only the differences in the lives between whites and black, but also how their lives were intertwined in the sense that they end up helping one another even though the time period was one of separation and segregation. As the novel progresses, Skeeter, an aspiring writer, wants to write an exposition about the lives of Aibleen and Minny and other African American maids living in the south and the porous conditions that they endure in their daily lives. The story takes its wild turns, one more unexpected than the last one. Moments that will take you by surprise are bound to happen. The writing is really fluent in the sense that in each individual scene there s so much to like, and the best part of it, is the fact that none of the direction or the writing ever seems forced, but quite natural.
