Cosmopolitan magazine is an international magazine for women (commercial companies). It was
first published in 1886 in the United States as a family magazine, was later transformed into a
literary magazine and eventually became a women's magazine in the late 1960s. Also known as
Cosmo, its content as of 2011 included articles on relationships and how to have proper sex,
health, careers, self-improvement, celebrities, as well as fashion and beauty. Published by Hearst
Magazines, Cosmopolitan has 63 international editions, is printed in 32 languages and is
distributed in more than 100 countries.

Hearst Magazines, a unit of Hearst Corporation, is one of the
world's largest publishers of monthly magazines, with 20 U.S.
titles and more than 300 international editions. David Carey is the
current President of Hearst Magazines.
Hearst Magazines UK publishes 22 magazines and 21 websites in

A 50:50 joint venture with Rodale Inc. of the U.S., which focuses

magazine distributors.
Cosmopolitan Values

All media text contain ideas about society’s values and belief systems. Target audiences are the
primary audience for a particular text. The current chief editor of cosmopolitan magazine is Kate
White. Cosmopolitan want there magazine to target women only. Cosmopolitan is the lifestyle for
millions of fun, fearless females who want to be the best they can be in every area of their lives.
Cosmopolitan inspires with information on relationships and romance, the best in fashion and
beauty, the latest on women's health and well-being, as well as what is happening in pop culture and
entertainment…and just about everything else fun, fearless females want to know.
Distribution
Cosmopolitan magazine is aimed at women preferably over 18’s of any class and any ethnicity. We
can tell that cosmopolitan magazine is global because it has been translated in more than 300
languages. Cosmopolitan magazine is distributed in shops such as newsagents and supermarkets.
This is a perfect area to attract females because they are usually out shopping. Media
technologies have now advanced and we can now get cosmopolitan magazine as a phone app, on
smartphones. It is also accessible online. Now that media technologies have advanced
cosmopolitan magazine have made it accessible online so that women who work or are always on
the go can access it online. This increases the amount of viewers and publicity for cosmopolitan.
