Front Cover: I choseto basemy Digi-Pak off Jason Derulo as the genre is very similarto the one I have chosen.,
this means itmade sense to make something similarin order to make surethat I was followingand conforming
to the typical conventions.The conventions on the front of cover of my Digi -Pak cover there is a closeup
image of hakimfacingand lookingright, I have chosen this as fromthat anglehe looks as if he is an RnB artist
as he conforms to the typical good lookingmale role.From my audiencefeedback the target audiencefound
this attractiveand draw them towards the front as it shows them his masculinity and seriousness.Thecolour
scheme I chose to use could be seen as basic as itas itis all bluebutyou can also seethat he is wearingdark
coloured clothingbut there is also light shining fromthe corner to add lightness to the cover so it doesn't look
too dark,.Each colour represents a different connotation,such as the blueon the cover representing
innocence and coldness whereas the darker black and grey represents his hate or darkness towards his
relationship on which the albumis based on, but the lightrepresents hope and safety meaning he will be
better in the future. This could be applied to my work as you could go as far to say that now 'Hakim' has
broken up with 'lai' heis notin dark placeany longer and the shining lightrepresents the hope in the future
for himself and his life.This applies to the digi-pak as itwill representthe negative things,the pastas well as
the things that he is tryingto forget and get over, this then makes it relatableto the audienceas they could
relate to the way he feels, especially themale audienceas itis typical of males to suppress their feelings and
would relate to the albumand the artist.
The Mise-en-scene is limited due to the fact i have chosen to use the Jason Derulo cover which as you can see
from the previous slideis very basicand on a plain background,which emphasises the artiston the on the
front cover as he is the main focus of the cover. I have also incorporated the ti tleinto the cover, this is another
way I have made sure my cover conforms to typical to R&B conventions as most have a similar titlefor
example the Jason Derulo cover alongwith Chris browns albumcovers.I have used a mix of Chris Brown and
Jason Derulo on my magazine cover and this has allowed me to take the ideas from both covers to make sure
my cover conforms perfectly to the R&B covers and will be recognisableas oneto the audience. Instead of
having‘Hakim’ facingtowards the camera as mentioned before I have him facingsideways to emphasisehim
on the front cover as well as havinghim as a closeup and not a mid or longshot likesome covers,it also gives
the interpretation that he is staringatsomethingthat the audiencecannot see and leaves them intrigued as to
what he is lookingat.
As a whole I wanted my Digi-Pak fromthe cover to look likea professional R&BalbumlikeJason Derulo’s but
alongwith my own twist and I believe that I have achieved this well and followed the main and typical
conventions.

2. Front cover: In terms of costume code, he is wearingstylish,trendy clothingsuch as a leather jacketand ripped
jeans,this is a popular way to dress as itis quitea mainstreamway to dress but at the same time is affordable.
He wore either a plain white/black tee and a leather jacketon top as well as his own brand called 'need more'
which again is also notvery expensive but very stylish atthe same time. The clothingtogether makes him look
mainstreamwhich was meant to be the intention as well as makinghim look materialistic which isa typical
convention of R&B genres from what i have seen from existingR&B products.
CD:
For CD design, I decided that I would continuewith the bluecolour scheme as I have throughout, I used
Rihanna’s Digi-Pak asan idea of how I would do mine as she has kept the samefloral theme throughout,
includingtheactual CD. This then shows the audiencewhich albumthe CD is from as you can tell it has the
same theme in an obvious way. Most of my inspiration for the CD came from Rihanna’s album.Although I
haven’t used the same layoutfor the insertpage I have used her albumas an outlinefor the CD and the digi
pak in general as I believe the album is a great example of how a digi -pak should look.
Back Cover: I have chosen to use The Scripts back cover for their albumas inspiration for my own back cover
although it isn’tan R&B cover I have put my own twist on it so itwould fit my own R&B back cover and in my
opinion ithas worked well. I kept the barcodetowards the bottom of the rightsideas I think itsuited the cover
well. Some R&BG covers also havean image on the back cover as well as the front but I have subverted from
this as I believe that the back looks better plain than with an image of the artist.The font likemost existing
R&B products is bold and stands outon the plain background showingthe audiencea clear indication of what
is importanton the back of the album,although some covers do have less bold text which again I have
subverted from.

3. Music Advert:IusedPlanB’s magazine advertforthe defamationof Stricklandbanksalbumasithas
tiesto the R&B genre as he is a singeras well asa rapperand the layoutlookedgoodandI thoughtit
wouldlookgoodwithwhatI wantedtomy magazine adverttolooklike. SimilartoPlanB’sadvertI
have useda bolder,blockfonttomake the advertstand out whereasatypical R&B advertwoulduse
a sans serif fontbutI have subvertedfromthis.IbelievedthatHakimshouldbe the mainfocusof
the advertand be the mainimage onthe front whereasPlanBisjust off centre similartomine butI
have positionedHakim toalargerimage so the audience know he isthe mainfocusand notthe
writing,althoughhe isbiggerthanthe fontI have made sure the fontdoesalsostand outand they
knowwhatthe advertisfor.
I have alsoconformedasI have positionedthe recordlabel inthe bottomrightcornerasmost R&B
advertswouldhave thisandPlanB’s advertdoes.Ibelievethatthiswasa smart ideaas it makesthe
audience aware of the recordlabel andthat theyhave producedthe album.

The aim whenmakingthe musicvideowastomake the videoas conventionalaspossiblesothat
whenthe audience firstviewedittheywouldbe able toinstantlyrecognise the genre of the video.

movementwe have used.We didn’thave anypropswithinourvideodue tohavingalow budget,we
usedour owncars therefore notspendinganymoney.We alsomade sure thatitwas onlyHakim
and Leloointhe videosothat the audience couldclearlysee whothe maincharactersof the video
are thisconformsto the conventionsasinthe madvideoneyoandhisgirlfriendare initforthe most
part. Althoughwe chose R&Bas a genre the locationswe chose subvertfromtypical conventionsas
there isa scene where Hakimisina housingestate inLondonwhichgave the videoamore rap video
feel butthiswasdone as we thoughtthat itwouldappeal toa wideraudienceinsteadof justone
audience.
