60 second pitch
By KT Wright
Documentary
• I have decided to create a documentary for my
A2 coursework.
• It will be a combination of observational and
interactive documentary.
• The documentary will focus on the lifestyle of
a cosplayer.
Conventions of a short
documentary
• Interviews
• Soundtrack/incidental (non diegetic) music
• Titles and credits
• A range of clips relating to the
documentary topic
• Changes in the music according to the
mood created by the person talking
What’s a cosplayer?
• Cosplay. [kos-pley] /ˈkɒsˌpleɪ/ the art or
practice of wearing costumes to portray
characters from fiction, especially from
manga, animation, and science fiction.
Target audience
• My target audience for the documentary
will be teens and young adults aged 13-24
• This is because the topic of the
documentary appeals to a younger
generation and so is then more relatable
to the audience if it’s a culture that appeals
to their age group.
Inspiration
• There was a documentary on BBC three a while
ago called “Tom Felton meets the super fans”.
• The actor Tom Felton presented this documentary
and went around interviewing super fans of Harry
Potter.
• He also did interviews with Daniel Radcliffe and
went to comic con dressed up to embrace cosplay
lifestyle.
Location
• For my documentary, I plan to film in places
suited to the people being interviewed so it
reflects upon their culture in terms of Mes en
scene.
• For my interviews, I want to film in an
environment so the interviewee feels
comfortable but so it also reflects their
cosplay culture, so I one of the locations will
be in their own home.
• This is a good place to film as I will have no
sound interference and I can adjust the
lighting to a good setting.
Location
• I will also be filming at Birmingham Comic Con
• Comic Con is an MCM convention where people
cosplay and embrace geek/nerd culture
• By filming at this location, I hope to give the
audience an idea about their culture through the
mes en scene and costumes
• I also hope to do interviews of professional
cosplayers here
Costumes
• I hope to interview the cosplayers in their
outfits that they would wear when
attending conventions.
• This is fitting along with the mes en scene
in both locations
Shots and editing
• For my interviews, I will use medium close
ups and place the camera on a tripod so it
is still and not in motion.
• I will also use a range of long shots when
establishing new locations
• The editing will be slow paced and set to
create a happy atmosphere.
Incidental score
• For the soundtrack, I will create my own
music using my guitar or ukulele
• I can use these instruments to create a
happy and uplifting atmosphere.
• If this fails, I will use royalty free music on
incompetch.
Thanks for watching lol
