    1. Business Practice 2 Module 2 Activities
    2. Activity 1
      • Inspect your working area and identify any potential hazards. If you are in a college, identify potential hazards in the SIM office or the reception area of the college.
      • Write a brief report on your findings. The report must include the following:
      • T he potential hazards.
      • How the hazards can be removed or reduced
    3. Activity 2
      • Search on the Internet for any company who deals with dangerous substances and find out what their policies and procedures are regarding the handling of dangerous substances. Examples of such companies are Sasol and Dulux.
    4. Activity 3
      • Make a list of five jobs where people wear protective clothing. Indicate what type of protective clothing each job requires and why this clothing is required.
    5. Activity 4
      • Make a list of the different types of fire equipment located in your college or workplace.
    6. Activity 5
      • Identify the different types of fire extinguishers in your workplace or college. What signage is used to indicate where they are located? Draw a simple plan of the building and indicate where each fire extinguisher is located.
    7. Activity 6
      • Do a role play to illustrate what you should do when you receive a bomb threat.
    8. Activity 7
      • Find newspaper articles about armed robberies and discuss the following in class:
      • What was stolen?
      • How did the robbers gain access to the premises?
      • How can the company avoid similar robberies in the future?
    9. Activity 8
      • Does your college or workplace have an emergency evacuation plan? Do you know where the nearest emergency exit is in your building (college or workplace).
      • Obtain a copy of the evacuation plan and familiarize yourself with all the exit points and assembly points.
    10. Activity 9
      • Walk through the building where you work or study. List and identify all the emergency signs. Have these signs been placed in the right areas?
    11. Activity 10
      • Draw up a basic Health and Safety plan for the Simulated Office. Your plan must include the following:
      • Evacuation plan
      • Instructions on the safe use of equipment
      • Relevant safety signs
      • Procedures in the event of dangerous occurrences (fires, bombs)
