  • The presentation is good on its own but see Duane in person if you have a chance: he is a very good speaker. As a Google, Droid, gmail, etc. user I tend to ignore Bing. He makes it difficult to ignore.

  • 9 billion to 25 billion in the next 8 years
  • Exponential scaleMichioKaku – physicist – humans think in linear scales, but in reality it advances exponentially.
  • Bing is stitching together the pieces of the digital web to reassemble them into coherent objects.  (iotw, an airplane has thousands of characteristics, but those characteristics are spread out on sites across the web.  Some sites might have the plane’s length, another has the seating capability, another has safety record.)  The challenge is to scour each of these sites, understand they are talking about the same plane, and ‘rebuild’ the physical object in digital so Bing can understand what it is, and what it can be used for.  (For slide help: imagine you want to know the largest aircraft with the fewest engine failures, with the above scenario, Bing could do it). ·         Bing has 6 Billion facts, 28 Billion entities, and growing very rapidly·         For people, we have the largest collection 1.2Billion.·         For places such as US restaurant alone, we already have 1.1mm entities·         For things like Movie, we have over 800K entities with very rich information.·         This information fabric is the connective tissues for our devices to seamlessly connect to the people, places, and things that our users care about.    For search, this is a major accomplishment.  But it isn’t enough.  People are trying to do more things with more things.
  • In addition to the three parts of the platform I talked about, there are other areas we are working on to make interacting with our expert systems and devices more seamless. ·         Deep Neural Networks for speech and vision·         Advances in semantic understanding (critical for entity understanding); advances in resource/reward allocations·         Sensors to give devices the ability to better understand their situations and provide assistance when needed.
  • The above scenario will be enabled through two things:·         Powerful Bing (understands the world, the realtionships, and actions0·         Increased sensors on all devices, connected to the webo    Examples: Streetline (parking automation), home automation and intelligence (SmartThings), medical devices (Scanadu), cars (Tesla Model S), GE systems (Predictivity)
  • ·         All these signals on a common TCP/IP transport – what is a machine to do?·         Need a Babelfish
  • Refer to this article for more details on each item in the list: http://prdaily.com/Main/Articles/10711.aspx The list on that page is older – I’ve removed dead links and added a couple new ones to this current list.

Its quick, easy and simple. • Use hooks: ego, humor, anger, contrarian – be careful with them, but when used well, they are highly effective. • Participate in communities: when you are valued member of a community, the community supports you. • Share others’ information: people love when what they share gets shared itself. Share from trusted sources. • Ask questions: your followers will love the interaction and it’ll grow your following as others engage.
