2. At the time it was quite difficult to relate my video with my album, as they were
both in completely different styles, however after some careful analysis I managed
to find out what it is that connects my video with my digipak.
3. There is a connection between “Insanity Records” and the main
characters of the video; the connection is that the characters are
portrayed as crazy. The reason for this is due to the fact that in the
video we see both characters literally hurting each other as their rage is
accumulated by the stress of the game making these characters more
violent. This is a good example of how there is a possible connection
between violence and videogames. This is also a physical
representation of the violence about to unfold due to the game.
4. The use of the dripping paint on the tittles of the songs was a good way to
represent the artistic value of the known street art “Graffiti” as well as at the same
time foreshadow what may happen in the video. The first song on the back cover is
the song I used for my video, “Kick-starts” its quite an ironic name in this case as
we can see a lot of fighting happening In the video, some of which are kicks to the
chest… However the connection between the music and the video are conveyed
quite well as we can see most of the hits that the characters throw go quite
smoothly with the beats of the song as well as we can see some of the images that
represent what the lyric is trying to convey, (“look into your eyes…”)
5. The inside cover of my digipak consists on the designs I made with the program alchemy, the
image we see on the left inside cover is a design that represents a skull, once again this
correlates to the video as skulls usually represent death, suffering and fear, this is connected to
the violence that happens in the video. However in the inside cover we see we can also see
words of wisdom, these words somehow correlate to the video, the first one “Art is the vivid
imagination of those who believe in it” is meant with how gaming is an art, However this also
makes the video a tad confusing, in the sense that all we can see are either the characters
gaming or the characters fighting, but how do we know that the fight scene that happens in front
of us is not actually the game but the imagination of both boys playing? As they are both
characters in the real world and the virtual world it could be possible that the fight that we see in
front of us is not the game but actually they’re imaginative perspective of the game they play.
“Why stop dreaming when you wake up?”
6. In the video we see two characters playing videogames however in the video their
faces are not fully shown until the end of the video, this creates a somewhat form
of mystery as the audience would want to know why it is that their faces are not
shown, mixing this sense of mystery with the aggressive flow of the song and video
make it even more mysterious and cool. The combination of the music, the video
and on top of that some sort of mystery I believe will please the audience with
something they can relate too when It comes to videogames (gamers rage) This
Links to my album in the form of characters and graffiti artists, as when we usually
see graffiti we cant specify what the artist looks like, it’s a mystery, this is similar to
the main characters of the video as we don’t entirely see what the look like,
instead we see shots of some of their faces as well as their body but not their
entire structure, similar to what we think of graffiti artist look like. (hoodies,
tracksuits, tattoos etc…)
8. Eye catching font,
perfect to catch
peoples attention
and to take a look.
Font s quite
original, however
this is for the for
the audience to
be more
attracted to the
design of the
skull as well as
the text.
Famous sponsorship
to attract other
types of audiences.
QR code, this is a code that
if scanned with a mobile
will take you to a specific
site with the video
available.
The logo is quite eye
catching and
appealing to the
genre of dubstep.
At the centre of the
advertisement, this makes it
the most crucial part of the
advertisement. Its eye
catching, appealing and
defines the genre as a
whole.
Website designed to advertise the album.
9. The font is different,
this is to link it better to
the art style of graffiti
but also looks
aggressive which fits
the genre.
Same background
as it represents
the perfect type
of wall to paint
on.
Could potentially
represent blood.
Different type of
skull, however
quite eye catching
and looks more
like a graffiti
Different colour
scheme fits in
better with the
style and looks
more art like
however looses its
impact on its cool
factor…
Same track name as the
advertisement and also the
same song for my video.
10. So in conclusion, How effective is the combination of your main product and
ancillary texts?
The fact that its possible to link my main product with all these ideas and images,
shows just how effective it is. By using certain factors of my album I was able to
correlate links of the digipak with the video, using things such the record label to
show the aggressiveness of the genre, to the meaning behind the words of
wisdom. However the only thing that doesn’t add up to all of this is the fact that
both the album/ad and the video have nothing in common apart from the song,
this makes it difficult to create a link between my main product and the ancillary
text within the album.
Regardless, there are quite a few links between the digipak, the ad and the video.
Making it easier to access all the content it can offer, staying artistic gives the
audience the opportunity to open up their minds and to being able to imagine
what the songs would be like if they had a video!
