Action Plan For Blog
1. Through the use of teacher surveys, principal observations, technology plans
(campus and district) steps are taken to identify areas of need. Currently Comal
ISD uses the STaR Chart to identify teacher proficiencies. The survey showed
our Infrastructure is our greatest strength of which I would agree. Most teachers
agree they have access to one dedicated computer for themselves; web-based
learning is available; almost ¾ of the classrooms have internet access and
shared use of other resources such as Elmos, LCD projectors and digital
cameras. The district’s scope and sequence for core classes have been put on
the district’s site and elective classes are so to be posted. We all use technology
for classroom management (attendance and grades and lesson plans) and some
teachers use online resources but less than half. From a PDAS evaluation
standpoint, administrators rate teachers on their use of technology in the
classroom. Staff Development for online learning is not available nor is there
much modeling of technology in professional development settings.
Our district technology plan seems to reflect our campus STaR chart ratings.
We are predominately at the Developing Technology level except for
Infrastructure There is a lot of emphasis on infrastructure and the purchasing of
equipment and material but not much on training or technology integration in the
classroom.
Students are given some evaluative measure at the 8th grade level to show
student proficiency. According to the director of Accountability and Instructional
Services, usage reports are run; teacher surveys, PDAS walkthroughs, principal
observations and the STaR chart are used as evaluative measures for
technology integration. This Instructional Technology division works with the
Curriculum and Instruction specialists to identify curriculum needs and infuse the
technology applications and project based learning strategies. The specialists are
the developers of the district professional development sessions of which
teachers are required to attend 4 days in the summer.
According to our director, the long range plan for technology from TEA
recommends online learning environments. Our district has just purchased
StudyWiz which is a program in which teachers can upload assignments for
students to access at anytime online and students in turn can upload their
homework and work collaboratively with fellow classmates. Teachers are
provided with reports on access, test and quiz results and homework
submissions. A few teachers have been piloting the program but the majority of
the teachers have not been trained in its use.
My action plan comes from ideas from the District Technology plan, the District
Improvement plan as well as the Campus Improvement plan, our STaR chart
ratings and interviews with the Campus technologist as well as our assistant
Principal in charge of curriculum. I see our greatest need is more direct
interaction between teachers and district technology and district curriculum for a
more concerted effort for improvement in student achievement. The following
professional development ideas will hopefully improve the relation of gathering
and analyzing data to targeted areas of need in technology integration.
2. Objective: To improve the gathering, analysis and use of data to improve
integration of technology into our district.
