9. What?
Full time English language programme that focuses on
- developing all 4 language skills (reading, writing listening,
speaking)
- intercultural understanding
- international mindedness
- social skills
- sustainability
- IB philosophy

10. What?
IEP prepares students to enter an international school
IEP does not teach mainstream subjects, but offers PE, arts,
science and maths with an emphasis on terminology
IEP language goals correspond with MYP language acquisition
phase 1
IEP students are part of the boarding community and
participate in Exploria activities

11. Who?
Grade 4 - Grade 8
Non-native English speakers - complete beginners
Students who want to enter an international school

12. How long?
One academic year or less
Preferred start = August
Students can join during the academic year if they already
have a foundation in English

13. Testing flow
1. WIDA placement test when entering IEP
2. Informal progress assessments throughout the year
3. Formal full WIDA test Dec and June
(opportunity to apply for Prem mainstream classes)

16. 1. All new non-native English speakers (grades 1-5)
are tested using LAS links.
2. Results are analyzed and students are placed into
5 stages.

3. Support is organized for the students (stages 1-3)
by grade level.
4. Students are tested again at the end of the
semester and end of the year.
Process

17. How We Work
❖ Stage 1: Receives 5 periods of in-
class support and 3 pull out periods.
❖ Stage 2: Receives 5 periods of in-
class support and 2 pull out periods.
❖ Stage 3: Receives 5 periods of in-
class support and 1 pull out period

18. What We Do
❖ Teachers support the students during literacy doing activities for
sight words, guided reading and spelling.
❖ Pull out sessions allow the students to practice speaking more and
focus on grammar and vocabulary building.

19. Academic English Programme (AEP)
Grades 6 to 10, MYP Phases entering Phase 2
Depending on their level of English, students will receive either 5
or 10 periods of AEP support, in-class or pull-out

21. Entering G11 - 12
English for IB Diploma Programme
Grade 10 MYP Language B Phase 3 - 6
Students need to be consistently achieving a level 5 or above in
phase 3 or 4 in order to study DP SL English B
Students need to be consistently achieving a level 7 or above in
phase 3 or 4 in order to study DP HL English B
Students need to be consistently achieving a level 7 or above in
phase 6, and in addition, they need to spend at least one
semester studying English A in order to study DP English A

22. English Language A
The Language A course is designed for:
• Students with native or near-native English language
proficiency
• Students who have performed consistently at a high level in
Language Acquisition phase 6 (but not at the end of Grade
10)

23. • Students study a balance of language (eg. the language of
advertising) and literature (eg. a novel)
• Students study a balance of genres (drama, novel, poetry,
short story, non-fiction)
• Students study a world literature text each year

25. Ways to help at home
● Home language is important (HL) - discuss concepts learnt at school in
the HL in order to maintain your child’s HL vocabulary
● Time to relax; learning a language and new subjects through a second
language is demanding. Please ensure your child gets enough rest
● Time for other activities; encourage your child to take up sports here at
Prem, creative activities or spend time with friends
● Every student has individual needs, please make an appointment to
discuss any concerns directly with your child’s teachers, they are the
ones best able to give advice.
