LESSON PLAN FOR INTERMEDIATE LEARNERS- AMERICAN TESOL
1. TOPIC LEARNING OBJECTIVE: ESL COMPETENCY :
CLASSROOM PROCEDURE :
FREE CONVERSATION:
-Ask the students what event in another
country has caught your attention
recently?
TEACH:
-Introduce to the student the topic of
the Earthquake that happened in Japan
in March 11 that led to the Fukushima
Daiichi Nuclear Disaster. In this lesson,
they will be able to give precise
information about an event that made
history and they will be able to know
what idioms are.
SHOW AND TELL ABOUT THE TOPIC:
-The student watch a video clip about
the Nuclear Disaster in Japan.
PRACTICE:
-The students will read a dialogue to
practice their reading and listening skills
APPLY:
-Use idioms in daily conversation.
LEARNING OBJECTIVE :
By the end of the lesson the students, will be able
to give precise information about an event that
made history.
By the end of the lesson, the students will be able
to demonstrate the knowledge of idioms by
identifying its meaning in the sentence.
By the end of the lesson, the students will
demonstrate the correct usage of idioms by
speaking (or writing) three sentences correctly.
ASSESSMENT :
I will ask the students what event they
remember that made history.
I will ask them what has been the impact of that
said event.
The students will watch a short video clip from
the AMERICAN TV SERIES, FRIENDS, and they
will list down all the idioms that they’ve heard.
GRAMMAR POINTS:
The students will use the 7 new words and
expressions learned in a complete sentence.
The students will use some idioms in a sentence.
VOCABULARY:
7 new words and expressions will be introduced.

LEARNING SKILLS:
The students will listen to a video clip to improve their
listening skills to get basic information needed for their
dialogue.
The students will read a dialogue to help them improve
their speaking, listening skills that will help them give
precise information about an event that made a history.
PRONUNCIATION:
Proper pronunciation of words like : TSUNAMI,
IN JEOPARDY
COMMUNITY RESOURCES:
Students can use the skill of giving precise
information when making report at school or at
work.
MULTI-LEVEL ADAPTATION:
For Higher Level Learners: I will ask them to
narrate an event using precise information and I
will also encourage them to use IDIOMS to make
their sentences more colourful.
For Lower level learners : I will ask them to
narrate their daily routine using complete
sentences and introduce commonly used
idioms like : it’s raining cats and dogs, head over
heels etc.
MATERIAL/ ADDITIONAL RESOURCES :
Watch TV American TV series to be more exposed
to the idioms used by Native Speakers i.e.
FRIENDS
