2. PRE ASSESSMENT OF ELIMINATION
Meet with each child individually asking them what
they know about elimination. Mark on a checklist
their answers and what they know
1. Have you heard of it?
2. What do you think it means?
3. How can we estimate?
4. Have you ever heard of these words?
5. What is an average?
6. How do we reach it?
After this ask these same questions in the whole
group setting
3. DAY 1
Make sure the pre assessment has been conducted
Verbally introduce the topic. Ask the group, “do you
know what estimation is? Etc.” to get some discussion
going
After the introduction set up the PowerPoint about the

Hand each child a copy of the slides and go through
each slide thoroughly with the large group. Have them
raise their hands to share thoughts and ideas and then
share the exact measurements of the photos on the
slides
4. DAY 1 CONTINUED…
After going through each slide go over how each
table of seating with be there groups for the next
group activity.
Set out the items for the group work of estimating
items. Have each child get out a piece of paper to
write down their estimation of all the items. Go over
with them how after they write them down they
much discuss in the group and come up with an
average to share
Write each item up on the board; Hershey bar, a
notebook, erasers in a jar, a book, books
stacked, paper clips in a cup. Then have one child
from each group come up and write down the
groups average
5. DAY 1 CONTINUED…
Have an open discussion on the estimations, find
out how they came up with averages and then
share the exact measurements to compare
Lastly, discuss and explain the homework for the
evening. It will be a Google Doc handout that they
can access at home. It has five items listed for them
to find around their homes to estimate the size.
