Devised performances
Consider the aims of a devised performance piece of your choice, answering the questions
below.
What is the theme of the piece?
The theme of our performance is mime. Mime is basically acting without words and is expressing yourself
through your body gestures and dramatic movements.
Why did we choose the theme? (E.g. what was it about the theme that excited and/or inspired us.)
We chose this theme because we thought it was very different and original. Also we all watched a few mime
performances and thought it was very entertaining and interesting. Also, we thought it was good because we
were all good at it.
Who is it for? (E.g. family audience, teenagers, pre-school children.)
Our aimed audience is for teenagers but adults would also find it very entertaining. But it is aimed at teenagers
aged 11 to 16 who would find it easy to relate to our performance. Families and adults are allowed to watch it
and will also find it interesting.
What do we want our piece to do? (E.g. shock, amuse, educate.)
We want our piece to entertain the audience and make them laugh, we want to amuse them and make them
feel as though mime doesn’t always have to be serious but could also be humorous too.
What style(s) of performance will we use? (E.g. naturalism, musical theatre.)
Our performance includes music and also dance in it; it’s not a musical because the music is just the background
sound for the performance. There is dancing in it but mainly acting.
What are the dramatic possibilities of the piece? (E.g. for plot and character development,
staging.)
The dramatic possibilities of our performance is that we are all in character throughout the whole performance
