Devised performances
Consider the aims of a devised performance piece of your choice, answering the questions
below.
What is the theme of the piece?
The theme of my performance is bullying. The whole performance is going to be made up of different
scenes of day to day problems, issues or events.
Why did we choose the theme? (E.g. what was it about the theme that excited and/or inspired us.)
We didn’t want to give our audience something they would have seen before. Mime is something that
people don’t see much these days especially in theatres, they usually see in at road shows or on the
street. We wanted to entertain our audience in a unique way, which is the main reason why we chose
this theme.
Who is it for? (E.g. family audience, teenagers, pre-school children.)
Our performance doesn’t really target a specific audience. We want a range of people to come to our
performance, no matter the age the content of the performance suits all ages.
What do we want our piece to do? (E.g. shock, amuse, educate.)
Because our piece is made up of different scenes we wanted to get a range of reactions from our
audience like for example we did a graveyard scene to scare the audience but then we did a classroom
scene where a nerd was being bullied to get sympathy from the audience. We also did an adventurous
scene to get shock and laughter from our audience.
What style(s) of performance will we use? (E.g. naturalism, musical theatre.)
We will use musical theatre as well as naturalism of daily situations.
What are the dramatic possibilities of the piece? (E.g. for plot and character development,
staging.)
The dramatic possibilities are character development as we become one with our characters and get
deep into their feelings and their life situations.
