Consider the aims of a devised performance piece of your choice, answering the questions
below.
What is the theme of the piece? There are a variety of themes, e.g. friendship, laughter and fans etc.
The performance is based on lots feelings and emotions but the mime is presented mostly in comedy.
Why did we choose the theme? (E.g. what was it about the theme that excited and/or inspired us?)
We chose comedy mime because it would be different. Comedy isn’t taken seriously and by combining
it with mime, we could make it more memorable and unique for our audience to enjoy.
Who is it for? (E.g. family audience, teenagers, pre-school children.) Our target audience is
teenagers and their families. The performance will be held in school. The performance is suitable for
everyone because it is mainly comedy and every one of all age groups enjoy comedies.
What do we want our piece to do? (E.g. shock, amuse, educate.) The performance is to make our
audience laugh and let them enjoy the show. I also want the audience to take more interest in mime and
perceive it as a serious form of drama rather than street performers in face paint.
What style(s) of performance will we use? (E.g. naturalism, musical theatre.) Our performance will
be mainly musical theatre because there won’t be any dialogue in the mime piece. We will be focusing
on the music and lighting to set the mood.
What are the dramatic possibilities of the piece? (E.g. for plot and character development,
staging.) At the beginning of the performance, we had to mime all of us shattering a glass with a huge
log. We added sound effects and lighting to create a shocking and sudden atmosphere.
