3. Topic 1– Digital Residents
The first taskof the module was to explain the concept of digital residents and digital visitors. I dove
straight in with my own opinions, alongside a range of sources. At this stage I wanted to test the water
and establish my writing style and the style of my blog.
Perhaps the most important lesson I learnt here was the importance of visualmedia to a blog post, asI
struggled to include any ehre, and Icertainly carried that forward into my next post.

5. Topic 2– OnlineProfiles
This was arguably my most successfulblog post from the module. I used what I’d learned about the
importance of visualmedia in topic 1 to dive straight into topic 2 with aneye-catching gif asmy
‘cover’. The taskwas to discuss the risks and benefits of having more than one online identity,
something which I discovered I was strongly against during the course of my research.
Not only did I use this week to fuel conversation among my peers and provoke debate, I also learnt
more about the way I use social media and took measures to ensure allof my online profile were
consistent with my true identity.

7. Topic 3– Professional Profiles
After the success I had in topic 2 I wasdetermined to ride the wave into topic 3 and I wasrelatively
successful. Ifound a great range of alternative media, such as YouTube videos, and continued to use a
wide variety of sources and stimuli to formulate my opinions.
I also learned a great deal about the effective ways to builda LinkedIn profile and spent several days
working on my own, with the result that I have had many interactions with jobrecruiters who have
takennote of my profile and decided to enquire further.

9. Topic 4– Social Media Ethics
Given that many of the topics discussed in this module involved socialmedia in some way it seemed
prudent to discuss the ethics as such. I chose to consider the ethical implications of online candidate
and employee screening with regards to employers, and this may have limited my scope somewhat.
A key lesson I took from topic 4 wasthat straying too close to topics that I had already covered can
make life difficult when it comes to creating new content and encouraging new discussion. Clearly
originality is key.
10.
11. Topic 5– OpenAccess
Topic 5 was perhaps the most ‘standalone’ of all the topics we covered, in that the open access debate
was one that didn’t really overlap with personal socialmedia use or individual privacy, which had
been the main crux of our work thus far. However, I found it particularly interesting, asI’ve come
across the implications of open access (or lackthereof) inmy own YouTube video productions.
In order to return to my sense of originality I chose amore abstract approach to topic 5, combining two
aspects of open access that appear quite separate at first glance. Ifeel this was generally successful, but
it did lead to some confusion among my peers.

most important aspects of each topic. To
