ICT applied to English Teaching – 2012Assignment # 4Blog: http://mariaeugeniapiazza.blogspot.com.ar/FIRST ENTRY:Welcome to my blog!Hello! My name is María Eugenia Piazza and this blog was created for the subject ICTapplied to English Teaching, for the Profesorado en Inglés e Inglés Técnico, from theINSPT- UTN.I chose to use a blog because I think it is an easy way for the students to find the activities, follow the instructions for each of them and leave comments if they wish to do so. It’svisually attractive and friendly.According to Dudeney and Hockly (2007), a blog is an example of social software, is it tosay, a computer tool which allow people to connect. A blog is essentially a web page withregular diary or journal entries. The term is short for web log. A blog can be set up and usedby teacher and / or learners and the ideas and content can be generated by learnersindividually or collaboratively.A blog can consist only of written text or even audio, video, and photos. Most blogs allowreaders to leave comments on blog entries, creating an online community around a topic, intererest or person.Blogs can be classified into class blogs, in which students in the same class can post theirentries. Blogs used in education are known as edublogs. They cover a wide range of topicsrelated to education such as educational policies and development to learner composition.A blog set up and maintained by a teacher is known as a tutor blog. She can decide to allowtheir learners to write comments to the things she uploads, like exercises, reviews classwork, and extra material. Also, a teacher can encourage their learners to set up a blog. Thiswill be called student blog with the purpose of uploading comments of current affairs ordescription of daily activities so as students from other countries can comment on their blogentries. A class blog, is the one used by an entire class in which students post their work inthe same blog.Using blogs in the classroom has some advantages: they provide a “real world” tool forlearners to practise their writing skills and a way of contacting learners from other parts ofthe world. One of the issues to bear in mind when setting up blogs is that the teacher needs to beprepared to give learners time for writing, reviewing, redrafting and checking postingbefore they write their final version in the blog.
Another issue to be considered is assessment. Criteria will probably include those that we,as teachers, are accustomed to doing when we evaluate more traditional, paper-based formsof writing, such as accuracy, fluency, coherence and relevance, but they may also includecriteria related to the visual nature such as effect use of visuals, length of posting andawareness of audience. The main purpose of this blog is to provide some activities for the students to do usingdifferent Web 2.0 tools. These activities will be evaluated taking into account theevaluation criteria especially designed for each activity.SECOND ENTRY:1-Activity #1: How to create a video using Animoto.Steps to follow:1- Go to www.animoto.comAnimoto is a very useful website to create stunning videos.
