Valves Overview
 Purpose of valves
 Control rate flow
 Vary direction flow
CONTENTS
 Type of valves
– Gate valves
– Throttling valves
– On/Off valves
– Gauge glass valves
 Manual/control Valves
– Different between manual /control valves
– Type of actuators.
 Maintaining valves
 Operating valves
Type of valves
A gate valve stops flow by placing a
metal gate across the pipe
 Solid wedge gate
 Parallel disc and wedge gate
 Solid split gate
Gate valves
Producing a pressure drop or
turbulence
Type of valves
 Globe valves  Butterfly valves
Throttling valves
 Diaphragm valves
Plug disc
Composition disc
Conventional disc
Type of valves
 Plug Valves  Ball valves
ON/OFF valves
 Swing Check valves  Lift Check valves
Type of valves
Gauge Glass valves
• Make sure the valve is completely closed by
turning the handle clockwise as far as possible.
• Open the valve approximately 3/4 of a turn
• Fully open the lower and upper block valves
that isolate the gauge glass system from the
process fluids.
• Wait for the level of fluid in the gauge glass to
stabilize. When the level in the gauge glass has
stabilized, slowly open the valve as far as it will
go.
• Finally, turn the valve handle one full turn
clockwise.
Manual / control valves
 Manual valves
 Easier to troubleshoot
 Control valves
Different between a manual and control valves
Manual / control valves
Type of actuators
Maintaining valve equipment
Use of wrenches Lubricating valves Maintaining Packing
Operating Valves
Troubleshooting
Equalizing pressure Controller troubleshooting
Valve repair
Stem Bushing Repair
