THE LOCOMOTOR
    SYSTEM

THE SKELETON
The locomotor system is made up of the skeleton and
    the musculature.

THE SKELETON
The skeleton is made up of:

• Bones: They are hard and rigid organs.

• Cartilage: They are more flexible
    than bones.
• Joints: They are the unions
    Between two or more bones.
IMPORTANT BONES
Head bones:

There are two groups:
 Skull bones: protect the brain,

  like the frontal, temporal,
  parietal and occipital bones.

 Facial bones: like the nasal,
    cheekbones and jawbone.
Trunk bones:

There are two sections:

The spine is made up of
vertebrae that protect
the spinal cord.

The rib cage is made up of
ribs and the sternum.
Limb bones:

They can be upper and lower limbs
(arms and legs):

Upper limbs: humerus, ulna
and radius, carpal bones,
metacarpals, phalanges,
clavicle and scapula.

Lower limbs: The femur, tibia
and fibula, tarsal bones,
metatarsel and phalanges.
THE MUSCULATURE

THE MUSCULATURE

The musculature is made up
of all the muscles in the body.
IMPORTANT BODY MUSCLES

                     Head muscles:

              The masseter muscles,
              the buccinator muscles
                                 and
               the orbicular muscles.
Trunk muscles:

In the neck, the sterno-
cleidomastoid muscle.

In the front, the abdominal
and pectoral muscles,
and the intercostal muscles.

In the back,
the trapezius muscles,
the dorsal muscles.
Limb muscles:

In the upper limbs, biceps,
triceps, deltoid, extensors and
flexor muscles.

In the lower limbs, the quadriceps,
buttock muscles, and
the calf muscles.
TENDONS

Tendons are white fibres that connect muscles to the
bones.
