The "Three Stripes"were bought from the Finnish sport companyKarhu Sports in 1951 for the equivalent of1600 euros and two bottles of whiskey.

On 1July 1924, his brotherRudolf "Rudi" Dasslerjoined the business,which becameGebrüder DasslerSchuhfabrik (DasslerBrothers Shoe Factory)

Dassler Brothers ShoeFactoryBy the 1936 SummerOlympics, Adi Dasslerdrove from Bavaria to theOlympic village with asuitcase full of spikes andpersuaded U.S. sprinterJesse Owens to use them,the first sponsorship for anAfrican American. FollowingOwenss four gold medals,his success cemented thegood reputation of Dasslershoes among the worldsmost famous sportsmen.
  9. 9. Company split• Both brothers joined the Nazi Party, butRudolf was slightly closer to the party. Afterthe war Rudolf was picked up by Americansoldiers and accused of being a member ofthe Waffen SS, he was convinced that hisbrother betrayed him.
  10. 10. Company splitThe brothers split up in 1947:• Rudi forming a new firm that he called Ruda – fromRudolf Dassler, later rebranded Puma, and• Adi forming a company formally registered asAdidas AG from Adi Dassler on 18 August 1949.

Interesting facts• When West Germany won the 1954 FIFAWorld Cup, their footwear was supplied byAdidas.• In 1997, Adidas AG acquired the SalomonGroup who specialized in ski wear, becausewith this acquisition Adidas also acquired theTaylormade Golf company and Maxfli, whichallowed them to compete with Nike Golf.
