6. Font styles
Acceleration and reaction Flowers Kingdom Asiyah Script
Northern lights-script Mark my words Moderata
I have chosen these specific fonts because there are simplistic but stand out. The bold used on the fonts allows
to catch the readers eye and therefore encourage them to want to buy the magazine. I have also chosen these
fonts because they are different to most fonts so therefore it makes them unique and allows them to look
different from competitor magazines.
7. Font Styles conclusions
In conclusion I will use the ‘Acceleration and Reaction’ font for my magazine ‘Riddim’ because its simplistic,
bold and therefore goes well with my magazine. I also like the acceleration and reaction font because its
different to other fonts and therefore stands out so therefore when my magazine is on shop shelves the
customer is likely to see my magazine and therefore choose to buy it because it looks exciting.
For my magazine ‘Bass’ I will use the font ‘Moderata’ because it is unique and the flicks off the writing look
formal as I want my magazine to look professional.
It is important that my magazine stands out on the shop shelves from the other magazines because my
magazine is new so will not be well known therefore I have chosen a different type of font to my magazine of
inspiration ‘VIBE’ so my magazine can compete with it.

8. Magazine of inspirationMasthead: The use
of the masthead
‘Vibe’ stands out to
the reader and
therefore be the first
thing the reader sees
when they first look
at the magazine. The
use of the yellow
font is bright and
bold.
Banner: The use of
the banner draws
their attention to one
of the main focuses of
the magazine which is
about the race issue
Cover lines: The use of
cover lines highlights
to the reader about
the key points of the
magazine so therefore
its easier for them to
decide whether they
want to read it or not.
Barcode: The use
of the barcode
tells the reader
the price and
basic
information
about the
magazine.
Main picture:
The use of the
main picture for
the magazine is
very bold and
the use of the
black and white
effect also makes
it stand out.
10. What will you ‘repeat’ from front cover
(Steve Neale 1980)
In the two magazines I will repeat the same font for the Masthead this is because it is my favorite choice of font
and therefore by keeping it the same I’m not reinventing the wheel so therefore there is less risk when I publish
the magazine of it not selling. I will also keep the same font in both because both of the magazines are of the
same genre so therefore the font suits both of the magazines.
In both magazines I will also use a majority of the same images this is because both of my magazine ideas are
extremely similar so therefore by using a majority of the same this means that they are both of the same genre
and both appeal to the target audience. I will also be repeating the same layout of cover lines because this
makes the magazine bold and appealing to the audience.
I will be repeating the use of a barcode on the magazine because it’s a common convention on magazines and
therefore will be needed in order to sell the magazine. Finally I will be repeating the use of a banner because it
highlights the main news of the magazine so therefore the reader knows what the magazine is about before
they begin to read it.
11. The first thing I will repeat from the double page spread is the use of a bold title this ensures that the main
heading of the page stands out from the text so the reader knows exactly what the double page spread is
about. Another thing I will repeat is the use of a large image on the page so therefore this will engage the
reader and encourage them to want to read the article about the artist.
Thirdly I will repeat the use of larger font within lots of text because this means that certain parts of the text
will stand out and therefore catch the readers attention. It also means that the main points in the text will
enable the reader to know exactly what the article is about. I will also repeat the use of credits in my double
page spread because it’s a typical convention of a magazine and informs the reader of everyone involved in the
making of the picture.

14. Mood board conclusions
This picture of drake will stand out to the reader because he is one of the most
well known rappers and therefore people are likely to recognize him.
This picture of a Cartier watch represents the wealth and the bling in which the
artists featured in my magazine wear.
This picture of OVO is a brand that’s associated with Drake and is therefore
recognizable around the world.
The picture of Trapstar is clothing brand well associated with R&B and hip hop
artists.

27. Hand drawn drafts and graphic layout conclusion
In conclusion I have chosen to use this hand on draft front cover for my magazine because its simplistic and
well laid out. The hand on draft front cover I have chosen also contains all of the main features that a magazine
should contain in order to stand out to the customer so therefore they are more likely to want to buy it. Also I
have chosen this hand on draft front cover because it it is very well suited to the target audience at which I am
aiming my magazine at so therefore people of this age will be more likely to buy it compared to people of an
older or younger age.
I have chosen this hand on draft double page spread because it contains all of the main features of a magazine
in order for it to appeal to the reader. It also is very bold so therefore it stands out to the reader in the shop
this means that they may be more likely to want to buy the magazine. I have chosen these graphic layouts
because they have a good structure and are very appealing to the reader and they also have a very good and
consistent colour scheme.
28. Summary of ideas for Riddim
The genre of my magazine is Hip hop/ R&B as this genre is extremely well known amongst people of all ages
and has been around for a long period of time. The colours of my magazine are green, white and grey . I have
chosen the colour red because its bright and bold and therefore makes my magazine stand out from others in a
shop. I have chosen the colour black because its simplistic and easy to read and I have chosen the colour white
because its blends well with the other colours.
The target audience for my magazine are people aged 15-30, I have chosen these ages as my target audience
because it means that they will be able to relate to the magazine and they will be able to understand the
content in the magazine more. I have also chosen these ages because they are within the same age bracket as
me so therefore are likely to want to listen to the same music and be interested in the same type of news.
Cost of the magazine is £2.99, I have chosen this price because its affordable for most people of my age range
and therefore everyone will be able to buy the magazine so therefore this will increase the amount of readers
that the magazine has
29. Summary of ideas for Bass
The genre of my magazine is Hip hop/ R&B as this genre is extremely popular so therefore I feel that it gives my
magazine the most amount of potential to attract lots of readers and therefore get the most amount of sales
compared to if I did the same magazine in a different genre. The colours of my magazine are red, black and
white. I have chosen the colour red because its bright and bold and therefore makes my magazine stand out
from others in a shop. I have chosen the colour black because its simplistic and easy to read and I have chosen
the colour white because its blends well with the other colours.
The target audience for my magazine are people aged 15-30, I have chosen these ages as my target audience
because it means that they will be able to relate to the magazine and therefore enjoy the magazine and the
content inside. I have also chosen these ages because they are within the same age bracket as me so therefore
are likely to want to listen to the same music and be interested in the same type of news.
Cost of the magazine is priced at £3.50, I have chosen this price in order to make the magazine affordable to
everyone. I have priced it slightly higher than competitors though because I see it as a premium product and
therefore readers are paying extra for premium content. I have also chosen this price because the magazine is
only published once a month so therefore people will be willing to pay extra for the magazine.
30. Form and style for Riddim and Bass
My magazine will contain bright and bold colours in order to catch the readers attention so therefore they will
be more likely to want to buy the magazine. The use of bright and bold colours will also enable the magazine to
look different from its competitors which also means that the magazine will be successful and will become
more well known.
The layout of my magazine will be clear and well structured so therefore it will be easy to read and it will look
professional. Also by having a good layout it will enable me to make certain parts of each page stand out such
as the main title and subheadings. The layout will also enable the reader to find the parts of the magazine in
which they are specifically looking for quicker.
The page in which I am using is A4 with the measurements 8.27 x 11.69 inches which means that the page will
be large enough for me to be able to fit all of the key features of the magazine on and enable me to make the
magazine colourful and exciting for the reader.
31. Conclusion to LO2
In conclusion to LO2 I feel that it has enabled me to have a clearer understanding of exactly what I’m going to
put in my magazine. The mind maps enabled me to brainstorm my initial ideas for each magazine so therefore I
was able to see what my best ideas were for each part of the magazine an integrate this into my hand on drafts
and my graphic layouts which were designs for my magazine.
I then chose some images which I wanted to include in my magazine and that were related to the genre of
music in which I chose. I chose 4 of these images and wrote about why I chose these images to use in my
magazine. Also in LO2 I found an magazine of inspiration and annotated the front cover so therefore I would be
able to take ideas from the magazine and use them in my magazine and I also did this with a double page
spread.
Finally I created a summary of ideas to explain what exactly I was going to include in my magazine in order for it
to look professional and for it to stand out to the reader.
