 Even in ours lives, other things or beings do intervene or helpEven in ours lives, other things or beings do intervene or help

 When discussing “When discussing “SHAFAA’ATSHAFAA’AT ” , we are referring to” , we are referring to ““the help,the help,
intercession or mediationintercession or mediation”” which Allah has permitted for somewhich Allah has permitted for some
among His creations, to make for others - especially foramong His creations, to make for others - especially for Allah’sAllah’s
Mercy and forgiveness in the Hereafter.Mercy and forgiveness in the Hereafter.
 This “This “SHAFAA’ATSHAFAA’AT” can be given by, and only to benefit those who” can be given by, and only to benefit those who
had adhered tohad adhered to TAUTAUHHEEDEED, and not to the, and not to the MUSHRIKEENMUSHRIKEEN..

“And those whom they invoke besides Allah have no
power of intercession;― except only those who bears
witness to the Truth and they know (him).”
(Qur’an: Zukhruf: 43: 86)

““Say: "Do ye see what it is ye invoke besides Allah?Say: "Do ye see what it is ye invoke besides Allah?
Show me what it is they have created on earth, orShow me what it is they have created on earth, or
have they a share (have they a share (SHIRKSHIRK) in the heavens? Bring me) in the heavens? Bring me
a Book (revealed) before this, or any remnant ofa Book (revealed) before this, or any remnant of
knowledge (ye may have), if ye are telling the truth!“knowledge (ye may have), if ye are telling the truth!“

TAUTAUHHEEDEED) who direct all) who direct all Du’aDu’a or invocation to Allah Who Alone isor invocation to Allah Who Alone is
Divine, who do not ascribe partners to Him.Divine, who do not ascribe partners to Him.

“And [commanded], 'Direct your face toward the
religion, inclining to truth, and never be of those
who associate others with Allah; (MUSHRIKEEN);
And (LAA TAD-’UU) do not invoke (make Du’a to
others) besides Allah that which neither benefits
you nor harms you, for if you did, then indeed you
would be of the wrongdoers.‘”
(Qur’an: Yunus: 10: 105-106)

““And if Allah should touch you with adversity,And if Allah should touch you with adversity,
there is no remover of it except Himthere is no remover of it except Him; and if He; and if He
intends for you good, thenintends for you good, then there is no repeller ofthere is no repeller of
His bountyHis bounty. He causes it to reach whom He wills. He causes it to reach whom He wills

the sins ofthe sins of SHIRKSHIRK..

““They cannot precede Him in word, and they actThey cannot precede Him in word, and they act
by His command. He knows what is [presently]by His command. He knows what is [presently]
before them and what will be after them,before them and what will be after them, andand
they cannot intercede except on behalf of onethey cannot intercede except on behalf of one
whom He approveswhom He approves. And they, from fear of Him,. And they, from fear of Him,
are apprehensive.”are apprehensive.”

our worship and deeds of righteousness, etc.our worship and deeds of righteousness, etc.
 Such deeds will appear on Judgement day as a person whoSuch deeds will appear on Judgement day as a person who
will be ‘will be ‘advocate interlocutoradvocate interlocutor’ for the Believer who has’ for the Believer who has
performed them sincerely for Allah.performed them sincerely for Allah.

 Yet the most important point to note regarding “Yet the most important point to note regarding “SHAFAA-’ATSHAFAA-’AT
” is that none of these things, people or even angels are” is that none of these things, people or even angels are
Divine , or has the independent (exclusive) power to harm norDivine , or has the independent (exclusive) power to harm nor
bring any benefit whatsoever,bring any benefit whatsoever, except only by Allah’s Will andexcept only by Allah’s Will and
permission.permission.

 Muslims upholdingMuslims upholding TAUTAUHHEEDEED, always believe that every, always believe that every
supplication (supplication (Du’aDu’a) is directed to Allah and the right to) is directed to Allah and the right to
fulfil or reject any requests belongs to Allah, Who Alone isfulfil or reject any requests belongs to Allah, Who Alone is
God (Divine). Allah SWT has the absolute prerogative andGod (Divine). Allah SWT has the absolute prerogative and

 Make no mistake about this.Make no mistake about this.

Say: "To Allah belongs exclusively (the right to grant)Say: "To Allah belongs exclusively (the right to grant)
intercession (intercession (SHAFAA-’ATSHAFAA-’AT) : to Him belongs the) : to Him belongs the
dominion of the heavens and the earth: in the End, it isdominion of the heavens and the earth: in the End, it is
to Him that ye shall be brought back.“to Him that ye shall be brought back.“

“Or, Who (is it who) listens to the (soul) distressed
when it calls on Him, and who relieves its
suffering, and makes you (mankind) inheritors of
the earth? (Can there be another) god besides
Allah? Little it is that ye heed!”
(Qur’an: Naml: 27: 62)

“Allah forgives not that partners should be set up with him; but He
forgives anything else to whom He pleases; to set up partners with
Allah (SHIRK) is to devise a sin most heinous indeed (ITH-MUN ‘A-
ZEEM).”

(intercession) from a living righteous person, as in them making(intercession) from a living righteous person, as in them making

 Regarding whether this can still be sought from the dead,Regarding whether this can still be sought from the dead,
differences of opinion occur amongst Islamic scholars.differences of opinion occur amongst Islamic scholars.
 Those who objected perhaps would regard this as akin toThose who objected perhaps would regard this as akin to
““SHIRKSHIRK” and thus forbade the practice.” and thus forbade the practice.

 However those who allow this argue that any request to aHowever those who allow this argue that any request to a

 As to the objection saying that these people are “dead” - this isAs to the objection saying that these people are “dead” - this is

““Think not of those who are slain in Allah's way as “dead”. NayThink not of those who are slain in Allah's way as “dead”. Nay
they live, finding their sustenance in the presence of their Lord.”they live, finding their sustenance in the presence of their Lord.”

 In this regard, those who prefer not to seek “In this regard, those who prefer not to seek “SHAFAA-’ATSHAFAA-’AT ””

 Yet, they who prefer this opinion,Yet, they who prefer this opinion, should not easily misjudgeshould not easily misjudge
nor accusenor accuse other Muslims who do so, i.e. visiting graves orother Muslims who do so, i.e. visiting graves or
shrines of Prophets (shrines of Prophets (NABIYYINNABIYYIN), the Truthful (), the Truthful (SWSWIDDIQEENIDDIQEEN))
Martyrs (Martyrs (SHUHADASHUHADA’’) and Righteous people () and Righteous people (SWSWOLIHEENOLIHEEN) - by) - by
labelling them as “labelling them as “MUSHRIKMUSHRIK“ (polytheist) OR ““ (polytheist) OR “QUBURIYEENQUBURIYEEN
-grave worshippers”, etc.-grave worshippers”, etc.

“(Do not) call each other by (offensive) nicknames : Ill-seeming is
a name connoting wickedness, (to be used of one) after he has
believed (BA’DAL- IIMAN): And those who do not desist are
(Indeed) doing wrong (ZOLIMUUN).”
(Qur’an: Hujurat: 49: 11)
