颜色 Yánsè colour
你喜欢什么颜色? Nǐ xǐhuan shénme yánsè? What colour do you like?
我喜欢绿色。 Wǒ xǐhuan lǜsè. I love green.
你不喜欢什么颜色? Nǐ bù xǐhuan shénme yánsè? What colour don’t you like?
我不喜欢黑色。 Wǒ bù xǐhuan hēisè. I do not like black.
我妈妈喜欢紫色。 Wǒ māmā xǐhuan zǐsè. My mum likes purple.
我姐姐不喜欢粉红色。Wǒ jiejie bù xǐhuan fěnhóng sè. My sister doesn’t like pink (colour).

Nǐ xǐhuan shénme yánsè?
你 喜欢 什么 颜色?
What colour do you like?
Wǒ xǐhuan lǜsè.
我 喜欢 绿色。
I love green.
红 Hóng 蓝 lán 白 bái 黑 hēi and so on are all
adjectives.
The suffix 色 Sè is a noun meaning ‘colour’.
So when you place 色 after a colour, eg.绿色lǜ sè
It means ‘the colour green’.
Language targets –to express “喜欢
like”
Wǒ xǐhuan Hóngsè.
我 喜欢 红色。
I like red colour.
Wǒ xǐhuan Lán sè..
我 喜欢 蓝色。
I like blue colour.
Wǒ xǐhuan huángsè hè Jīnsè .
我喜欢黄色和金色。
I like yellow and gold colour.
To express “和 hè” - and
wǒ yǒu bǐ, qiānbi hè chizi.
我 有 笔, 铅笔 和 尺子。
I have (a) pen, pencil and ruler.
The word ‘和 hè’ and only joins lists of pronouns, nouns or noun phrases and
never clauses. It is seldom used to connect 2 verbs. It usually comes
between the last 2 nouns in a series (as example above).
In class task: To work in pair and talk to your friend what stationary you have in
your pencil case by using this sentence structure above.
Language targets –to express “不喜欢 dislike”
To form the negative不 bù no/not is used.
Wǒ (bù) xǐhuan hēisè.
我 (不) 喜欢黑色。
I (do not) like black colour.
Wǒ (bù) xǐhuan Báisè.
我 (不) 喜欢 白色。
I (do not) like white colour.
Wǒ (bù) xǐhuan Báisè hè hēisè.
我 (不) 喜欢 白色 和 黑色。
I (do not) like white and black colours.
