W - wilm’s tumour
A -aniridia
G - genitourinary abnormalities
R - mental retardation
• Gillespie syndrome is the combination of
aniridia ,mental retardation ,balance
problem(ataxia)
6. SYMPTOMS
• Reduction in the sharpnesss of vision
• Photophobia
• Myopia – 64%
• Amblyopia – 37%
7. TREATMENT
• Regular eye exam to asses and screen for
glasses ,glaucoma and cataract
• If glaucoma develops treatment typically eye
drops, but may require surgery
• If cataract develops removal of lens and IOL
implantation
8. • Corneal problem – artificial tears, oinment
• Limbal stem cell transplant may improve
corneal scarring
• Recent development is a black artificial iris-
lens implant i.e sometimes placed after
cataract surgery
