2. This is a cover from one of the most popular rock magazines around. The four main
colours used are yellow, black and white with a red background. The dark red in the
background helps the yellow to stand out more which helps lure the readers to the
title. The title is in a bright, bold, yellow writing with a slight black outline which is
there to make the writing stand out slightly more from the background image that it
is overlapping.
The magazines name is in big writing however, it is being covered by the lead singer
from Linkin Park, Chester Bennington. The reason why they may have done this is
because they know how massive this magazine is so they wouldn’t really need to
show the name because a massive amount of the population already knows the
name. This gives out a feeling of cockiness but not so much that it is off putting. Black
and yellow is a common colour for warning tapes that are used to warn people. By
using these two colours together, they are almost trying to warn the readers about
what they may read if they buy the magazine.
Another thing that stands out is the way they have played with the words and how
the words link in with the picture. For example, Chester Bennington is posing without
a top on showing his top half of his body. Then they have written ‘The naked truth!’
and they have even underlined to show that the pun was in fact intended. Also the
pose that he is doing links into the quote that he has made in the interview which
they have taken from and put it on the front cover. He has used the word
“emotional” as the image of him almost looks like he is screaming while he is
clutching onto his head as if he is angry or trying to break away from the emotions
that come from being a famous singer.
The cover line is there to help show the readers that there are posters inside. Posters
are used to help bring in more customers because it is cheaper than going out and
buying a poster on its own. At least then you can get multiple of posters as well as
knowing the latest upcoming bands and catching up with the latest news of your
favourite bands. The background of the cover line is a bright yellow to help the red
writing stand out. They have also used catchy words such as ‘Mega’ and ‘ultimate’ to
show the readers that the posters are amazing and are worth it if you considering
buying the magazine.
