2. The masthead has a black background and
white text. This makes this seem more visible
and can be seen from a distance making it pop
out towards the audience. The text size is big
and is stretched across the top of the page.
This shows its importance as it takes up about
1/6 of the cover page. The text is bold but also
looks cracked or scratched reflecting the bands
rebellious attitude as they stand out by them
being bold and scruffy. The title tries to reflect
the bands.
The band members facial expression are shown to stare at
the camera to give them a menacing look about them. It
shows that they do not break eye contact presenting their
confidents to be high suggesting that they are not afraid of
anyone or that people should be afraid of them. Their body
language is shown to quite open further showing their
confidence. One of them has their hand in a shape of gun
towards his head which can be seen as threatening towards
the audience. This could persuade the reader to get the
magazine as they want to know more about the threating
band as violent people are sometimes more well know than
people who are not.
3. The mast head text is white with a blue back ground
which matches with the colour scheme of blue, black
white and yellow. The “kerrang” text is white while
the “contents” is yellow. This makes the two words
stand out from each other suggesting that they have
different meanings. This shows kerrang is the name
of the magazine but “contents” is the name of the
page. This is also backed up by the fact no other
important text is in white. The blue background
helps the headmast stand out even more as that is
the only place that uses blue making it seem
different from the rest of the page drawing the
readers attention.
The main image shows a young woman
who is likely in her teens or early 20s for
the contents page. Her facial expression
has slightly menacing smile suggesting
that she may have more of a rebellious
attitude than what we would have
thought. This shows that looks can be
deceived as we would have
stereotypically thought a younger girl
would be kind and respectful. Her body
language shows her hands aimed
towards the camera as if it was pushing
it away maybe suggesting she wants be
kept out of people activity's like when
teens don’t want to hand around with
their parents for the day which shows
that the magazine is mainly aimed at
teens and young adults.
4. The main image is a medium shot of
a young man. His facial expression
shows barley any emotion suggesting
he doesn’t care. He is also shown to
stare directly at the camera showing
his confidence as it seems like he is
staring the reader in the eye. His
body language is also quite open
further showing his confidence
towards the reader. The tattoos
present the man in the image as
tough and cool as usually those are
the type of people who get loads of
tattoos.
The main sell line has
different sized text. The
absolutely is bolder and
bigger than the rest of the
text. This suggests that
absolutely is meant to be
shouted while the rest of
the text isn’t to be shouted.
The size of the text and
colour of the text suggests
that they have to be spoken
in a different tones to each
other.
Some parts of the text is white
while most of it is black. This could
suggest that each white bit a text
has some important information
within it. The white is used as it
stands out against the black while
also sticking to the colour scheme
of black, white and pink. Which is
an often style of colours within
punk magazines.
5. Reflection
My research has taught me what most magazines of my genre have in
common and taught me what I can use for my own magazine. It has given
me the idea to use a simple colour scheme such as black, white and another
bright colour like pink or yellow. Which I can use for different effects like
tone and implying the important things within the magazine such as the title
back ground having a different colour that isn’t used any where as else on
the page. The main images for the pages often show the person staring at
the camera with a meaning or emotionless face which I could use for my
cover page main image with the actor. This will not take so much effort and
will make my magazine more believable as it will look more like a real
magazine. The layout of the text boxes are sometimes slightly titled like their
hanging out of place giving the impression that magazine doesn’t care about
what other people think its appearance.
