Music video concept
1. Music Video Proposal and Treatment
“Hold on we’re going home” by Drake, Wolf(オオカミ) Productions.
Director: Olivia Singleton
The general feel of the music video I am making will be: a group of mixed race gangsters,
wearing heavy gold chains that make them look as wealthy as they are, a mixed race girl
who looks as if she belongs in a Burlesque movie, low key lighting set at night time and
when inside it will be low key lighting with a nice candle setting before her world turns
upside down, a group of white wealthy men to be portrayed as evil. And basically it’s going
to have a few changes and turns because the actual music video I’m going off is sad and
then it has a happy ending but it’s a serious music video like a short film, in certain scenes
I’m going to add twists so when she’s in the bedroom before getting kidnapped, she starts
doing a dance like in burlesque just for the sake of it because she’s waiting for her fiancé to
get home and she’s all glammed up. Another scene I’m adding a twist to is when they’re in
the car going to get his fiancé from the kidnappers the actual music to the video will turn
down and chris brown’s song will play and they’ll start bopping and dancing in the car and
the setting will be funnier but then it’ll change back to gloomy when the music goes off and
they get to the place.
Treatment
When I do my video, I’m picturing the scene to be an October night, where it’s cold and you
can see the fog which makes it more chilling, and the sky will be pitch black but it’ll only be
about 7-8pm. For the first scene of the music video, it’ll be outside hence the reason for me
wanting the setting to be how I described.
Here are the few rules that I want to apply in making the music video:
1. It is a narrative music video that I want to make which tells a story
2. A steady cam will be used to film the different characters in different scenes, I think
this will be a good camera to use because in the first few scenes they’ll be sat down
and I’ll need a few focuses on the faces and then when it gets to the action part I
would love to use a ‘go pro’ camera which you can attach to any part of your body
which snowboarders/surfers/skateboarders often use these types of cameras to
make the viewer feel more involved when they watch it, sort of like 3D movies so I
can imagine that it’ll be a really good technique to use if someone’s in a fight or
shooting and you see from the shooters POV and the victims POV and in my head
that’d make it look amazing and tons better than using a DSLR camera as you can’t
get the same effect from it.
2. 3. Extras and talents will be needed. I’ll need a main mixed race girl to play the girl who
will get kidnapped as revenge, preferably with a made up face and I will need her to
be able to dance. She’ll be wearing a full body lace corset like burlesque looking with
her face made up, because she’s waiting for her fiancé to get home to surprise him.
I’ll also need a main man who’s also mixed race and would play the role of a
gangster, and a few other men like him who’re in his ‘clique’. And then I’ll need a
gang of white men in suits who look high in profession but are also gangsters.
4. Will mostly shoot outdoors and then in a club, and a warehouse and a big house.
5. The lighting will be dimmed so I’d need as much low lighting as possible, because it’s
not a positive video I need the lighting to be like the setting.
6. Camera shots:
a) I will need a good focusing camera for the first scene as they’re having
drinks at a bar and toasting to something.
b) I will need a close up camera to film the woman doing her makeup before
she gets kidnapped which will be closely shot on her face.
c) I will need a camera that can follow the person who’s giving the main man
the phone in slow motion.
d) I will need a camera that will be able to film in a dark setting with candles
e) I will need a camera that will be able to film fast movements as they’re
shooting.
f) I will need a camera that won’t be shaky because it’ll mostly be shot
handheld.
7. The first group which are the main group are a mix of white and mixed race, and
they will be wearing suits and chains, the suits will be black grey and white. The
main girl will be wearing a full body white lace corset with a few white pearl
necklaces. The main man will be wearing a white suit with a black shirt and a gold
chain with a gold watch. The second main group who’re the enemies will be wearing
suits also varied from grey to black to white.
8. The music video will be like a short film so I’ll want it filmed like that as it’s a
different style of editing compared to other music videos.
