Graphic layouts for Rhythm and Beat
5. Why I used graphic layouts
The reason why I have used the graphic layout to help
me design the magazine is because it gives me a clear
idea of what I want the finished magazine to look like.
12. House styles for Rhythm
The colour of the Rhythm magazine is grey and red. This is because it is similar to the
magazine of inspiration, furthermore the two colour go well together and therefore
makes it visually appealing to the audience.
This colour scheme will be carried out throughout the whole magazine to denote that
it has a consistent house style.
13. House styles for Beat
The colour of the Beat magazine is black and yellow. This is
because the two colours contrast well and they look good when
there is an even amount of each colour on a page.
This colour scheme will be carried out throughout the whole
magazine to highlight that it has a consistent house style.
14. Draft Interview
Hello How are you?
Very good thank you
Just wondering if you would answer a few questions that the members of public would want to know?
yes of course I'm always happy to answer the questions that my fans have prepared to ask me, it lets them know more about myself and my life.
When growing up was Hip Hop always your favorite genre of music?
Yes, it was. I always thought that it was an interesting type of music and I never got bored of listening to it. I listened to it whenever I had the
chance.
How long have you been in the music industry?
When I made my first album I was 17 years old, that means I have been in the music industry for 7 years.
Did you always want to be in a famous band?
Ever since a young age I always had a dream of preforming in a band in front of thousands of people, I always liked to preform in school
productions and I loved the adrenaline I got from being up on the stage. However it was never the same as being in a band at a concert which was
a true dream of mine.
Who is your inspiration in life? Who do you look up to?
I don’t have a specific idol as such, I get inspiration from other people in the same industry as me. They motivate me to contribute as much as I
can to the music industry.
What do you think got you into music?
Since a young age I was always in a good mood when I listened to music, so I have loved music since about the age of 5
When did you find out that you had a talent?
When I was about 15 years old, my mum overheard me singing and said that I am a very good singer.
What were your thoughts when you started getting recognized in public by fans?
I was emotional because since I was young I always wanted to be famous and when I got recognized I was overwhelmed with excitement.
Have you got any targets for your success in the future?
Yes, I would love me and my band to be top in the charts.
15. Test photography
These are a few of the pictures that I did not choose as the final
photo for the front cover. I had to take these images before I
completed the magazine work.
16. Target audience
Katz’ theory: according to Katz my magazine will ‘inform and educate’ the audience. This is through using interesting language
and images in order to attract the audience into reading the text. For example within the magazine it consists of interviews with
famous people that are well known, the use of well known celebrities attracts more people that are interested in the specific
celebrity. Furthermore if my magazine use well known people then people will enjoy reading the article more, this is how the
magazine is able to inform and educate the audience. The use of interesting images creates a diversion for the audience because
it is enabling them to sit and read an interesting magazine and escape reality for the duration of reading the magazine.
Hartley’s: Hartley's theory highlights that my magazine should consider Age, gender, class, ethnicity, self-image, nation and family.
They should make sure that the magazine getting published is age appropriate to younger people whop read the magazine, this
means no sign of gore or sexual images. It is also very important that they consider different races before publishing the magazine
this is because there might be some controversial language used that might offend certain people because of their race or
ethnicity. Another thing that it says s gender and self image. These are really important because there might be contexts that
could make people feel they are lower than other people because they are a male or female. Also people might look at their self
differently after looking at a model in an image
Maslow: Maslow's theory mentions 4 different potential outcomes for a reader after reading a magazine these are; social
climbers, care givers, explorers and survivors. Social climbers is when the audience are driven by improving their status in society.
This is important because it gives the audience confidence and a drive to do well in life. Caregivers is when the audience
sympathies with the characters situation. This is important because it gives the audience a chance to escape reality and be
engrossed into a magazine. Survivors is when the audience members want security and routine. This is important because they
have security knowing that the magazine will be published on a set date.

Production plan
19. Step by step for the front covers
• The first thing that I did was select the background color of the magazine and the size of the
page. This would be the base of the whole front cover so I needed the color to be dark so the
lighter colors would stand out more
• The next thing I did after this was made the masthead, I used a font style of my choice off of
the website DAFONT. I downloaded the font and used the text tool in order to insert it onto
the front cover. I used to font style for the cover lines also so it looked professional and
consistent.
• I used the ruler tool to make everything in line and to make it look professional and neat.
• After I selected the image I wanted to use for the font cover I used the quick selection tool in
order to cut around my silhouette, this helped me to completely get rid of the background in
the image and use the background that I selected in the first step of making the front cover.
• In order to resize the image so it looks better on the page, I dragged the ouse to the top
right/left of the image, held down shift and resized it, holding down shift made sure that the
image would not get warped whilst im resizing it and therefore making it look stretched or low
quality.
• After I added in the photo and the cover lines and I was happy with it, I added in the barcode
that I found offline. I added in social media logos that I resized in order to fit into the box that I
made for the barcode at the bottom left of the page.
• In addition I also added in a date of issue to make it look more professional and to inform the
reader of when the magazine was issued.
20. Step by step for the double page
spreads.
• The first thing that I did was select the correct dimensions for the double page spread and
make sure that the page was the correct size.
• Secondly I typed up the interview into word and organized it how I wanted it on the
double page spread.
• After that I made text boxes on the double page spread ready for the interview and then I
inserted the interview into them and made sure everything was correctly spelt and it
looked professional.
• I then added in the photograph that I had taken and edited ready for the doable page
spread. I used the resizing tool in order to make it fit neatly onto the page.
• I added social media logos and links onto the bottom of the page so people are reminded
that they can find the magazine on the social media platforms displayed.
• On top of the interview I added the pull quote from the front cover so the reader knows
the article is related to the front cover
• Finally I added in drop capitals so the reader knows where to start reading and then I
added in the page numbers and a web adress so the reader knows what page they are on
and they are also shown how to access the website of the magazine.
22. conclusion
I have highlighted the planning that I have done in order to make
the front cover and the double page spread page as best as I can.
I have inserted the graphic layouts to show the planning and the
decisions I have made in order to make them look professional. I
have explained the step by step process of how I created the
pages and I have also added in the final copies of the front cover
and the double page spreads.
