2. RUN THE WORLD (GIRLS)
I would say this is a performance piece as we can see Beyoncé performing
it and singing the lyrics as she dances.
Lyrics and Visuals- This is a convention used in this music video as the line
“Who run the world? Girls” is used in the chorus. This is then backed up by
the visuals as it is a shot of a lot of females dancing.
There is also voyeurism used in this music video. This is because
throughout the video Beyonce’s body is shown is a sexual way due to the
lack of clothing she has on. She also covers up with a small fur coat and
some leather boots so it is treated in a particular voyeuristic manner.
Another convention it fits is video and genre. This is because it is an
electropop and a R&B genre. So the dancing and movements we see fits
well with the genre.
3. LOVE ON TOP
I would say this video is a performance piece as in the video we see Beyoncé
singing and performing the song.
Voyeurism is used in this music video. This is because Beyonce’s body is
shown in a sexual way due to the lack of clothing she has on and by the type
of clothing she is wearing as it is very revealing. This shows her body in a
voyeuristic way.
The convention, video and genre is also used. This is because the genre is
R&B, funk, pop and soul. The video matches with this genre due to the
performance in it, for example, singing into a mic as if they were on stage,
this fits well with soul and pop.
4. SINGLE LADIES
I think that this is a performance piece as we see Beyoncé performing the song as
she sings the lyrics.
Voyeurism is also used in this music video. This is because in this Beyoncé is
wearing minimal clothing and is revealing. Also by the fact she is wearing black
and black high heels. This presents her in a sexual and voyeuristic way.
The convention, lyrics and visuals is used in this music video. This is because she
says the line “put a ring on it” and she says this when she is showing us her finger,
emphasising it must be done. So the lyrics and visuals match. The women dancing
also look like “single ladies” as they are dancing in a sexual way, wearing little
clothing, this could imply they are looking for attention and a man.
5. INDEPENDENT WOMEN PART 1
I think this piece is a abstract and performance piece. This is because it goes from a
shot of girls dancing, to a random shot of people fighting, then to a motorbike. This
shows nothing is matching. However it could be performance as it shows us the
group singing the song.
Voyeurism is used in this music video. This is because the members of the groups
body is shown in a sexual way. This is because of the bronze body con mini dress so
it shows their figures more and reveals more of there body. This shows them in a
voyeuristic way. It is also used as Beyonce looks directly into the camera so she is
looking at her audience, this creates a bond with her and her audience.
I also think the convention, intertextuality is used. This is because it is almost set
like an action film due to the fight scenes played on the TV screen. So it is referring
to another media form.
Lyrics and visuals is used too. This is because when she is singing “Independent
women” she is doing independent things, such as: fighting her own side and on a
motorbike showing she needs no man.
