1. Simon Firth
Simon Firth stated that music videos are
based on one out of the three main
typologies that consist of performance,
narrative and conceptual.
2. Simon Firth believed that if a music video is based on performance then it should included a main singer with star quality that is performing in
front of screaming fans. The aim is to convey an in-concert experience.
Simon Firth believed that if a music video is narrative then the music video should tell a story that links to the lyrics. As a love song would have a
music video that would feature a couple.
Simon Firth also believed that if a music video is conceptual then it should be able to create a mood without telling a linear story.
An example of performance would be shown in the music video The Show
Goes on by Lupe Fiasco. As he is preforming on stage in front of a
screaming crowd.
An example of narrative would be shown in the music video Blank Space
Goes on by Taylor Swift. As her lyrics are talking about love and being
together which is shown through her music video as it features her and a
‘lover’.
An example of conceptual music video would be shown in the music video
The Greatest by Sia. As the music video creates a mood by its dancing.
