Forces can be either balanced or unbalanced. Balanced forces are equal in size but opposite in direction, resulting in no change in an object's motion. Unbalanced forces are not equal or opposite and will cause an object to change its motion, either starting to move, changing speed, or changing direction. The net force of multiple forces acting on an object is calculated by subtracting the magnitudes of opposing forces and determining the direction of the largest remaining force.
