3. Types of Materials used for mounting
structures in Solar Plants.
1. Galvalume & Galvanized Structures
2. Mild Steel & Stainless Steel Structures Structures
3. Fiber – Reinforced Plastic Structures(Floating Solar)
4. Definitions
1. Galvalume Structures : - These materials contain 45% Zinc and
55% aluminum and looks similar to galvanized steel, but the visible
crystals are smaller and close together, giving it a smoother
appearance.
2. Galvanized Structures : - These are specifically referred to an
inner metal layer of iron and carbon alloy steel that has been dipped
in a hot zinc bath and is now coated with a thin layer of the material.
3. Mild Steel & Stainless Steel Structures : - Mild steel contains
carbon as the alloy, whereas stainless steel includes chromium. The
changes brought about by chromium to the internal structure of
the steel result in properties which gives stainless steel its name. SS
materials are very high corrosion resistant and a surface which does
not stain or tarnish.
4. Fiber – Reinforced Plastic Structures : - Fiber-reinforced plastic is a
composite material made of a polymer matrix reinforced with fibers. The fibers
are usually glass, carbon, aramid, or basalt.
5. Structural Parts
1. Column Posts : - These are vertical C- Channels having Web Flange and
Lip. These are used as a vertical pillar to give support to the entire
load of other structural parts and Solar Modules transferred beneath.
These comes in different thicknesses as per the design requirement
2. Purlins : - These are used to mount the Solar Modules on structures.
These are Placed horizontally on Rafters.
3. Rafter : - These are installed on the C-Channels or Column Posts in
required slanting positions and Purlins are rested to these Rafters.
4. Bracings : - These are used to basically to bind the structure in one
singe frame to give resistant to wind pressures.
5. Sag Rods : - These are round bars threaded on both the ends used
between two purlins to keep the racks aligned in a single line.
6. Fasteners : - These are the nuts, bolts & washers used to fasten the
structural parts.
