2. Purpose/objective of this task
• This is to look at this establishment and history of the genre you are
working in. This is to understand the historical contexts of where it come
from and why it came about.
• Next, look at how the genre evolved over time. It’s likely that you will find
that subgenres and hybrids emerged – think about why this is and the
positive/negative effects of the genre. You should also consider how this
relates to audience and how media texts evolve and change to appeal to
different audiences.
• In your presentation you could include examples of media texts (visual
screen shots) - explore different SUBGENRES.
3. MV resources
Start with DANCE genre (and/or EDM genre) and look at where it started. Consider the role of
DANCE ARTISTS (singers/DJs) and compare these. The EDM documentary we watched is probably
useful.

When?
Who was involved?
Where?
How did it evolve over time?
How did it fuse/merge with other genres?
What are these new subgenres? Explore these…..
4. Magazine resources
• Look back to when fashion magazines first emerged – explore the 5 W’s
and how they evolved over time (like in slide on MVs)
