1. Describe how you developed research and planning skills for
media production and evaluate how these skills contributed to
creative decision making. Refer to a range of examples in your
answer to show how these skills developed over time.
Introduction (1 sentence to address question and then outline
both products):
(just sentence starters:)
Research and planning contributed to making creative
decisions. (basic)
Research and planning helped to accomplish creative ideas
within both production and post-production stages. (prof)
R&P is an essential part of making sure our coursework
productions is effective throughout. (prof)
Research and planning is important to creativity as it increases
your efficiency allowing you to have more time and ideas to be
creative. (exc)
For outlining your AS and A2 make sure you include:
-subgenre
-task
-describe details of the videos/ancillaries (enough so a
moderator would know what you did)
2. Paragraph 1: (how were you creative in research and planning)
In our research and planning we were limited to ācreative skillsā
as the assignments were set by our teacher. Because every task
was set for us, it could be argued that our creativity was limited
because we didnāt have to think of what tasks we could
complete for research planning. However, this helped us know
what was needed for our productions that we had a range of
tasks to meet the mark scheme. We had to explore our artistic
creativity skills when coming up with ideas for our tasks
including drawing our storyboards for our video tasks and
sketching our rough drafts for our storyboards. Here we had to
foresee and determine a style to fit our artist and appeal to our
target audience. (TEACHER COMMENT: not best example as
there are a lot of other examples you could have written about,
however, the written structure is good. L2/3 quality)
We used youtube to real media texts and analyse their
conventions in AS, helping us complete a relevant opening title
sequence which is appropriate to the genre. We developed in
A2 by improving our research making more specific to the genre
and artist that we were making a music video for. Our planning
was completed on Emaze as we put our ideas into a
presentation to present them to our peers and gain feedback.
We developed in A2 as our use of Emaze came more advanced
using more animations and transitions to make them more
engaging to the audience.
Improved version of above:
3. SKILLS TO ANALYSE:
-analysis and critical thinking
-presentation and organisation
Over the two years, our research and planning developed over
time which allowed us to be creative and make creative
decisions. At AS, we used a variety of sources to research film
openings, such as āyoutubeā and āartofthetitleā. We used these
resources to analyse their conventions, helping us complete a
relevant and suitable opening title sequence which is
appropriate to the genre. We applied critical thinking because
we deconstructed a range of conventions such as low key
lighting and chase scenes. We developed in A2 by improving our
research because we were much more aware of the impact of
research on our media product, therefore at A2 our research
was much more in depth and our analytical skills were increased
and developed because we paid much more attention to the
small details. At AS our planning work was not as organised and
well presented as A2 because we were new to a lot of the
programs such as Emaze, Powtoon, Prezi and so on. We
developed these skills in A2 as our use of Emaze came more
advanced such as using more animations and transitions to
make them more engaging to the audience. Also, our work was
much more organised because we knew to use clear titles,
bullet points/highlight key terms, incorporate wide variety of
images and annotations instead of bulky paragraphs.
4. Paragraph 2: (affect of r&p on production)
In AS and A2 we had to prepare ourselves for production and
we did this by managing our time using applications such as iCal
to help organise and discuss what days we would spend filming
and completing assignments and so on. This prepared us for
production as we knew when we were going to film and create
time and prepare equipment for production.
Improved version of above:
-delegating/team work
-time managementand organisation
-prioritise
In AS and A2 we had to prepare ourselves for production. In
order to be prepared for production, we had to use a range of
skills in planning to ensure we did this by managing our time
using a range of resources. At AS we used applications such as
iCal on the school macs to help organise and discuss what days
we would spend filming and completing assignments and so on.
At AS I felt that our time managementwas poor due to lack of
proper delegation and people not prioritising getting work done
on time. This meant that our poor planning impacted our
production negatively because the standard of the work was
not good due to rushing the filming. Therefore, at A2, this
meant we appreciated the value of planning skills so we
improved by delegating the work more equally within the
group. For example, we delegated specific tasks considering the
skills of individuals, for example I specialised in ___________
becauseā¦ā¦ā¦. This improved planning impacted our main task
5. because we didnāt waste time finishing off or rushing through
planning tasks, instead we could focus on bringing our vision to
life by sticking to a specific plan in storyboards, shotlists, scripts
etc.
Paragraph 3: (affect of r&p on post-production)
