Choosing a career is a complex task that requires consideration of multiple factors. The document discusses teaching pupils about different professions and having them analyze factors to consider before making a choice. It involves developing listening and speaking skills through exercises on professions and modal verbs. Pupils learn about various jobs through lexical drills and a listening activity comparing careers to people's interests. The goal is to help pupils understand the process of career selection and importance of studying to have good job opportunities.

Career
1. Subject: Choosing a Career (the 8-th form)
Objective: a) to train the lexical units on the level of sentences;
b) to develop pupils’ listening skill and unprepared monologue
speech on the level of short utterances;
c) to fix pupils’ grammar skill: could, may, might (possibility);
d) to teach pupils analyzing before making a choice;
e) to arouse pupils’ interest towards different jobs.
Equipment: textbooks “In Touch 3”, pictures (professions), handouts
(lexical units, listening, speaking), a CD-player.
Steps:
I. 1. Org. moment:
Good-morning, everyone! I’m glad to see you
again and hope that you are ready to work hard. Are
you ready? Then let’s start.
Look at the pictures (Додаток 1) and tell me the
topic of our lesson.
You’re quite right! Today we’ll talk about
different professions, tomorrow you’ll tell about your
plans for the future and on Monday you’ll write a
composition: “My Future Profession”. And now it’s
time to warm up your lips before the work.
2. Phonetic drill: [m], [æ]
Mary may marry a mailman.
a) read word by word;
b) the whole;
c) as quickly as you can;
d) learn and tell.
3. Grammar drill:
2. a) Look at the tongue-twister one more time. Mary may marry a mailman.
But she might marry a musician. Or she could marry a mechanic. We don’t know
for sure. → What do these modal verbs mean? (Possibility)
b) Use these modal verbs to talk about the things we’ll perhaps do today at
our lesson (the teacher reacts with “Yes, we’ll definitely …”). As we’re going to
talk about future careers we can’t know anything for sure. That’s why don’t forget
to use these verbs during the lesson.
II. 4. Work on the lexical units.
a) Read the transcriptions:

[ˌʌnɪm'plɔɪd]
['glæmərəs]
[kla:k]
['ʧælɪnʤɪŋ]
['fɔrɪn]
[krɪ'eɪtɪv]

the beginning to the end; from the end to the beginning; missing one word;
beginning with the first/second word:
